These Black Chicago Historians may not be in your Americsn history book but they are on our radar. We honor them as trailblazers from our home town Chicago. As a black owned company we celebrate Black history everyday. Today we share enlightenment and inspiration. 1. The Obama family, from Chicago's Hyde Park area marked history as the first Presidential African American family in the White House. @obamafoundation 2. @lenawaithe the first African-American woman to win an Emmy for outstanding writing in a comedy series 3. @jhud the youngest woman and second African-American woman to receive all four of the major American entertainment awards: Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony (EGOT). 4. @virgilabloh the first person of African descent to lead the brand's menswear line, as well as one of the few black designers at the helm of a major French fashion house. 🙏🏽 5. @ye made history after taking home the wins for Best Melodic Rap Performance and Best Rap Song at the April 3 show. With 24 trophies, the Donda rapper now ties Jay-Z as the two most-awarded rappers in Grammys history. 6. In 1986, Whoopi Goldberg aka EGOT historian, made history as the first Black woman to win a Grammy Award. The 1991 Oscar winner, is the first African American to have received Academy Award nominations for both Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress. 1992, she made Grammy Awards history as the first Black person to host music’s biggest night. Also the first Black woman to host the Oscars at the 66th Annual Academy Awards in 1994. In 2002 she earned her first Tony Award for Best Musical. She earned a Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Talk Show Host in 2014. 7. @berniemac show marked @larrywilmore as the first Black writer to win the Emmy for outstanding writing for a comedy series. Today, in America we swore in our fairly elected 46th President. We swore in the first black/Asian female Vice President. Who might I add was sworn in by the first Supreme Court Latina Justice, Sonia Maria Sotomayor. We swore in diversity, inclusivity, equality, unity, humanity, humility, and compassion. But above all love. We saw the former Presidents, from both sides of the aisle, acknowledge and congratulate President Biden (Mr and Mrs. Obama we miss you lol). Demonstrating how the peaceful transfer of power should be like. Of course he who shall not be named was absent. Shocking, I know right. We still have a lot of work to do in this country. We have many steps to take in the right direction. This virus, trumpism and racism, that runs deep in this country will not just eradicate itself because the family who lives in the big White House has changed. But just for today I will enjoy this sense of Victory. This sense of security. Because today the democracy of my beautiful country prevailed. Today females of all ages and all backgrounds but especially those of color, feel seen. Let the work begin. Let the road to healing begin.
