Quinlan's backstory (which is mostly legends canon but I don't think we've gotten much new canon backstory for him) is complicated, and we don't really know how much time he spent in the temple or not and since he doesn't have a new canon backstory I sort of get why he kinda just gets shuffled into Obi-Wans creche clan - HOWEVER

I think there should be more fics of baby Quinlan being forcefully adopted by Obi-Wan and Bant and everyone. They're all still initiates, and Quinlan despite being under the age of 10 is already a Padawan!! Which means he doesn't really need a creche clan, Tholme has been handling all of his education, but he probably takes some initiate classes when on Coruscant. Just them seeing this too young Padawan and being like.... New crechemate let's fucking go! Baby Quinlan would not know how to handle it.

Like not only just so he has connections on Coruscant and friends, I'm also just imagining the trouble they'd talk him into. Sneaking him into the creche for a sleepover. Making sure he knows all the best secret passages in the Temple. Convincing him to use his psychometry to get gossip on their rivals.

Like Quinlan naturally was a bit of a trouble maker, but he doesn't often have accomplices hyping him up and digging the hole deeper with him. Doubly funny because like, Obi-Wan was a pretty rambunctious pre-teen and his other initiate friends were also pretty silly and fun. I just think we're missing opportunities not having more fun with Quinlan's Legends backstory wrt his friendships and relationships within the Order.

“Hey, why are we called the Angel Line if we don’t have any angels?”

Most of the other soldiers did not even deign to react to this question, but one man nearby shook his head at his friend.

“Does it really matter, Vara?”

The soldier who had asked the question shrugged in annoyance. “Well, not really, but then again, nothing really matters, does it? Does anyone here even know? I’ve always been curious.”

A new voice spoke up, a guard a few spaces down: “If we’re being honest, I’ve always wondered that, too. I mean, we’re all humans, here! We don’t even have any rhox or aven support, let alone angels, yet we’re expected to hold the front line on our own?”

“Right?” Vara chuckled. “Now, that’s not to say I hate angels or anything, but couldn’t they come down from their ivory tower and lend a hand?”

“That’s quite enough!” Vara’s friend hissed. “Angels present or no, our orders are clear. We hold the line. And besides, we see angels sometimes! Celebrant Bertha pays us a visit now and then!”

“Pays our chaplain Basil a visit, more like,” Vara snorted.

“Hey, now. The man won a tournament and Bertha’s favor. It’s only natural they be good friends.”

Vara rolled her eyes. “I feel like those two are more than just ‘friends.’”

Yorion is a trap. This deck ended up being very good anyway, but it would have been better as a 40 card deck, with more picks being available to devote to fixing.

Flickering Acidic Slime and Skyclave Apparation with Soulherder was maximum cruelty. Soul-Guide Lantern was also much better than I anticipated.

Remanding a Languish won a game for me, and Mishra's Bauble helped me play around Fiery Confluence.

Slow Healing

Spoiler: This is an excerpt from Smoke and Debris

Bant Eerin is in there, tending to him now when he’s given permission to enter. “How is he?” Anakin asks, unable to tear his eyes away from Obi-Wan’s still form on the bed.

Seeing him like this is…

“His condition is stable,” Bant replies, though she looks grim, “Several of ribs were fractured, and one of his lungs was seriously damaged. He has other more minor injuries that will heal in time, but his recovery will be a long process.”

It’s that bad? He knew the damage might be permanent or very long-lasting, but this is… If he’d been there, maybe this could have been prevented. Of if he’d found him sooner, or – but he didn’t and now his master will be dealing with this, possibly forever.

“There is nothing else you can do?” Anakin asks, helplessly.

“No, I’m afraid not,” she replies.

Anakin nods numbly, moving to sit down next to his former master’s bed.

“I know it’s not easy to see him like this,” Bant says, sympathetically.

‘Not easy’ would be a serious understatement.

“Had I found him sooner – “ Anakin begins.

“From what I heard, there was little you could have done,” Bant interjects, “Most of his injuries are from the initial explosion, from what I can tell. The Separatists gave him emergency treatment to.. keep him alive. Even had you been there, it is unlikely this would have been any different.”

It hardly helps, because he should be strong enough to… to stop things like this from happening.

“These things happen, Anakin,” she says, gently, “They are not within our control.”

Anakin only nods, unsure what to say. He knows what she’s saying is true, but Obi-Wan is his master. He’s…

Bant excuses herself then, and Anakin stays behind and waits.

He doesn’t know how long he’s been sitting there when Obi-Wan finally stirs, his presence flaring as he awakens.

“Hey, wait! Lady Bertha! You dropped this!”

The angel gazed down at the priest on the ground who was holding her scabbard aloft. “…No I did not, Basil,” she murmured.”

“But I saw you drop it.”

“No,” Bertha insisted, “you did not.”

“What…Oh. Listen, Bertha, I know the Asura wants you all to be literally perfect around us ‘mere mortals,’ but I swear to you, I don’t care. I’m just trying to do a good deed and return your stuff, here.”

“It does not matter whether you report it or not,” Bertha sighed. “Our equipment is enchanted. Upon inspection, anyone will be able to tell it has been soiled, even if I were to clean it extensively.”

Basil shrugged. “But it just got dropped on the ground, is all!”

“Exactly.”

“Oh.” Basil scratched his beard. “Well, that’s some pretty powerful tracking magic.”

Bertha hung her head. “Indeed.”

“…Which makes me want to apologize for fumbling the catch when you tossed it to me.”

“Hm?” Bertha blinked at the cleric. “What do you mean?”

“I mean, you tried to throw your thing here to me so I would have a means to call you in the future. It fell on the ground, I picked it up, and now it’s in my hands. Right?”

“We celebrants are not permitted to lie.”

“Am *I* permitted to lie?”

Bertha grew uncomfortable. “I would prefer if you didn’t…”

Basil rolled his eyes. “Fine, then. Leave it with me, so it’s not a lie!”

“That…just might work!” Bertha smiled brightly at the priest. “Thank you, truly.”

“Hey, it’s my pleasure! Besides, it’s not every day you get to summon an angel!” Basil teased.

[Inventory on Bant is meticulously documented via tracking magic. If even a pocket knife gets so much as dropped on the floor, the quartermaster will know about it.

Also, I feel like the Asura (angelic high command on Bant) would be extremely strict on their celebrants. (all seraphs on the shard that commonly mingle with mortals) Understandably, this would probably lead some of them to interact with their wards in unconventional ways, like with Bertha and Basil just now.

It didn’t start out like this, but Basil can actually use Bertha’s scabbard to call her. They magicked it up later, after Bertha explained the situation to her superiors. The higher-ups loved it, kind of like a “hearts and minds” deal. They even started doing it some themselves, giving out enchanted scabbards to dignitaries and the like, hence why Angel’s Herald and Empyrial Archangel aren’t legendary.]
