I grew these goth potatoes and I sliced into them for the first time today and they are SO pretty and now I want to show everyone.
The variety is actually called 'purple sapphire' so you can look it up, but they're goth in my heart.

~ Welcome to the August Garden~
It is now the month of red! Look at this mornings harvest.
My summer sown broccoli are looking so good. It’s my first attempt, so I’m very excited to see if we get any florets before the first frost.
My first cabbage is also almost ready to be harvested and the tomatoes are giving us a steady stream of fruits now. Hopefully they will keep it up well into September.
We are getting to the end of cucumber season. All that’s left of my plants are these little deformed ones, but I bet they will still be absolutely delicious!
As for some color, my yellow nasturtiums have finally started blooming en masse. Next to them you can see that the marigolds are also still going strong 💪🏻
Next month will probably look a lot more bare, as our first frost date is at the beginning of October.
Until next time,
~L

You can count both your indoor and outdoor plants.
I am in the 75-100 range and I don't even have an outside garden, except for a balcony, which is filled with plants. Also, plant-sitting for a friend who is travelling, but I did not count those. I started with just a few plants, but now it's a forest 😆
(I can't believe I wrote "What are I doing?" but I can't change the poll options anymore😀)

I had to pull up my last carrot because it was putting up a big stalk to flower, so I have gotten two alliums and some little potatoes up as well. Nothing is perfect, but I'm excited to make Balcony Soup for lunch today.
These are my goth potatoes too so I'll be interested to see what their insides are like when I cut into them.

~Welcome to the July Garden~
As you can see from above, all of the spring crops have been harvested and replaced with sowings for a fall crop. The mums and marigolds are blooming up a storm and getting me very excited for fall and the fall harvest.
Speaking of fall harvests, my Mini Hokkaido pumpkin is slowly but surely ripening. Can anyone say “Home Grown Pumpkin Pie”?
The big four summer plants are starting to produce. The tomatoes are still green and will definitely get bigger before they turn red and the peppers are also growing strongly. The cucumbers have just gotten started and the beans (even after being pummeled by hail last week) are still producing and just about ready for the first harvest.
The cabbages are also growing albeit much much slower than last year. The harvest probably wont come until much later in the season, but I still expect to harvest them before the first frost.
My seed sown lavender is blooming again this year. It is on its third year and for the first time in its short life, it will need a hair cut at the end of the season. I loved growing lavender so much over the last 3 years that I’ve sown some more and next year I should have 2 window boxes full!
Well that’s all for this month. I apologize for missing last month. There was just so much work to be done and so much was being changed around in the garden that I didn’t get a chance to take any pictures.
Until next time,
~L

Updates from the Balcony
I know it's autumn, and nothing much is doing in the plant world, but I got a new addition recently, so I thought I'd do an overall update anyway.
So I'd like you to say hello to "Oh shit - I already forgot it's name", which is some kind of Dendrobium. It's another adoptee, this time from the garden of the husband of one of my Mum's personal care clients.
Apparently his had flowered and Mum commented it looked very pretty, so when it gave pups, he offered one to her and suggested I take the other one (because I guess she mentioned I'm also very into my green critters?). Apparently it's 'like an orchid' (having never had an orchid this doesn't help me in the slightest) and won't flower until it's matured a bit more. So that'll be exciting to see what happens with it.
Since I was taking pics anyway, I figured I should do a small round up of what everything else is doing.
The cyclamen is still looking nice in the flower 'bed'. The Armada Rose is going over, I think, and the dianthus is at least still green.
The blueberry bush has it's autumn colours and looks quite pretty, even if those black spots are a little concerning...
It's been determined that the winter heather has indeed gone kaput, which is a bit disappointing. Maybe I'll buy myself another and, like, actually remember to take care of it over summer 😅️
The tomato plant has gone! We had the last few toms off it mid-October when I came back from Denmark, and it finally left the house last Thursday, chopped down into a paper bag to be composted at my Mum's.
Everything else is chugging along. The Aloe got shifted a little from it's previous spot, but doesn't seem to mind. The Bird of Paradise, Zebra and Cactus maybe need a little more water than they've been getting, as the house has retained more warmth than usual, but otherwise are doing nicely.
The Amaryllis is going to be a challenge. Because it flowers during Feb, I've had to set a reminder to start watering and feeding it at the start of December, otherwise I don't think it's going to flower again. If it doesn't, this'll be the third time in a row it hasn't flowered, and that means it's destined for the compost heap. So I'd like to avoid that if possible.
The biggest issue with the plants right now, is this fella:
Sir! You are Spring bulb! You should not be sprouting at this time!
This tub holds the Crocus and Snowdrop bulbs I planted at the end of September. I'm not sure which of the two that is, but I'm very sure it shouldn't be out yet. IDK, maybe I should cover it over again? I don't want it to get frost-bitten... I will keep y'all posted on this miscreant.

I finally figured out my balcony working dilemma thanks to a neighbour selling this wheelie desk with a tilting surface. The outdoor reading nook has transformed into an editing nook.
