Title: Warmth in Winter

Fandom: Boku no Hero Academia

Pairing: Izuku Midoriya/Bakugou Katsuki

Summary: Bakugou hates peppermints. So it wasn't a bad idea to give them to Deku. Enemies to lovers.

"Do you remember when you gave me all those mints?" Izuku asked from above him.

Bakugou yawned. No, he didn't remember. But, then he was still half asleep. He still felt that Midoriya woke up too damned early Each of their daily routines were so different from each other, but Bakugou relented because of Christmas. It got dark so early now.

"Wake up, Kachan it literally rang in his ears. "It's Christmas after all!"

Oh, shit. He had to wake up now. It was time for merriment now, and there were so many thigs to eat and so many games to play. He idly wondered if Midoriya had gotten him a present. But, of course he did. That's what something that Izuku Midoriya would do.

Bakugou marveled that Midoriya he still sounded like a kid even after all these years. In spite of how bitter life had gotten and how many battles they had fought together; he still retained his youthful innocence. Izuku was still a a good person, but he wasn't not so Quirkless anymore.

For Christmas, Bakugou was going to give a green sweater. He knew would appreciate it it was both practical and cozy. It was almost the exact shade Izuku's eyes so he had to get it. Midoriya's calm yet intense eyes.

Midoriya chuckled as Bakugou stirred and finally flung aside the blankets. The blankets were red and green or rather Bakugou's color and intertwined together. Incidentally, their signature colors were ironically Christmas.

Of course, Bakugou did had given him something far better in exchange. Comfort. Understanding. Love. And, it took all this time to recognize it. Yes, Izuku had given him the best thing of all.

Before he had grown. Before he had matured.

Even he had to admit that he was a bit of a brat. Just how many tears had Midoriya shed because of him?

It was a miracle that they had even gotten close at all.

Bakugou still felt bad for all the nonsense he used to say and do to him.

Izuki hadn't merely been transformed into a hero. No, he had been born one.

At last, Bakugou got up to get breakfast. He had been delaying it long enough.

But, of course, Bakugou still remembered that day.

Bakugou absolutely hated Christmas. Especially Secret Santas for the biggest loser on earth

Even now, he could hear a small group of kids singing Jingle Bells.

"Jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all the way..."

It was annoying and they were a little too loud for Bakugou, and he was in a bad mood already. If they knew how he was feeling that would shut up right about now.

Instantly, Bakugou glared at them, and they noticed because they instantly stopped singing. He supposed that it was a little mean and he was honestly were rather sheepish now. However, he still strode away as he had places to go and people to avoid.

Honestly, most of Christmas just revolved around people acting like idiots and being happy in their singing and constant celbrations.

At times, Bakugou wondered why people couldn't act nice like that all year. Like his parents exchanging Christmas cards with sweet cartoon animals or emblazoned with too sweet words Why did it feel so fake? Although, adults would tell him that he was a little young to be think as such.

However, they were good things about Christmas, and no not those horrible ugly sweatshirts or fuzzy socks. Though Bakugou had to admit that the presents were nice and the delicious food itself was his favorite part of the holidays. Of course peppermint candies didn't count as delicious food.

He wondered what Deku would even like, but even so, he didn't want to spend a lot of money on him. He didn't want to participate in this Secret Santa event at all. Why were they punishing the kids? Wasn't doing Secret Santas an adult thing?

He could make it simple and just give him something he had squirreled away in his bedroom. Bakugou remembered that lame plastic ball under the window that barely had visible dent so it would be mostly fine. Deku wouldn't even notice it.

Also, his class liked peppermint too much. Even dark chocolate was better or peanut butter like those peanut butter bells. Chocolate was always the best idea. Or cookies.

Bakugou hated mint. He hated the damned things. He didn't want them should just leave them in or better yet the trash.

But, in Midoriya's case, it would probably be vanilla. He struck him as the type to adore white chocolate especially with peppermint.

Bakugou had three candy canes in his hand. He scowled.

The minty candies made his mouth feel weird and the taste was weird too. No chocolate was supposed to taste like that. Chocolate was supposed to be smooth and delicious. Not hard and...minty.

Bakugou swore that it made his tongue burn. He loved fire chili ramen. That actually tasted good

However. peppermints were so minty, and they wasn't not even sweet. So, what was the point of making them? To disappoint everyone?

Since he despised the confection, why did he have so many freaking candy canes and why did they taste so freaking bad? It wasn't fair and it was just laziness at this point.

Bakugou growled as he growled at the candy canes in his gloved hand. He wanted to ditch them but if anyone caught him for littering, the penalty might be severe especially in this area around the school.

Later, he could try burying them, but he didn't want to dirty his gloves because it wouldn't be worth it. Bakugou liked his gloves. They kept him warm

"Kaachan?"

There he was. The little green idiot who was watching him again. There were times that he swore that he had a stalker.

Izuku was just so annoying, but he acted so big. And, he didn't even have a Quirk.

Midoriya wasn't better than him so he should just quit trying. Still, how could he be so content?

Perfect. As if life wasn't stressful enough.

The Quirkless boy eyed the candy canes.

"What are these for?"

Were those words laced with hope? Well, it was Christmas.

However, Bakugou chose to stayed quiet

"Kachaan?"

Midoriya's eyes were so wide that they resembled swollen green moons.

"They're an early Christmas gift, I suppose," he grumbled.

"Really?" Midoriya squeaked. "Are they for me?"

Whist a perfect way to get rid of those vile peppermints. Give them to Deku.

"Yeah," Bakugou shrugged. "I'm your Secret Santa."

Though it was a little too early to reveal that. But, honestly he just wanted to get it over with. Even though it was four days early.

Midoriya's cheeks were red. "Really, Kaachan?"

Izuku was so freaking happy. It was such a cruel joke. For what?

"I'm going to get to make you cookies! My mother will bake them for you!" There was a hesitation. "Unless you would prefer peppermint cupcakes..."

Bakugou was instantly affronted. More peppermint? He was already getting nauseous.

"Hell, no," he groused.

More mint would just be unfair whether it be peppermint or spearmint.

Still, Bakugou never said no to any sort of cookie and he hoped that they were chocolate chip. He knew that he could He could always demand chocolate chip it was his present after all wasn't it, but for some reason he didn't. It was cookies so he was gratified enough.

Bakugi didn't have to wait long as Midoriya came around the very next day with a personalized bag that had his name emblazoned on it with glitter pen.

He took a bite, and Bakugou was instantly blown away. Deku's mother was a damned good cook, but he could never reveal that.

Midoriya was still watching him wide eyed, and it was just so invasive as Bakugou's taste buds were literally exploding with pleasure.

And, Midoriya of all people had given it to him.

"Well? How were they? Were they good?"

Bakugou swore that he was dancing up and down as he was quite eager for an answer.

Bakugou stifled a growl. It was honestly so annoying.

He was quiet a bit before he answered.

"Yeah," he admitted. "They were."

Honestly, they were the best cookies he had in quite a while. They were even better than his own mother's.

"Oh, and Merry Christmas," he said brightly. "I hope that you have a great one!"

Midoriya just looked so happy. It was as if Bakugou just had just given him emeralds.

He knew that Izuku didn't have many friends and that he probably wanted a friend for Christmas, and it was a shame he couldn't give him one. However, people couldn't give people friends, they had to make them.

"Merry Christmas," he said quietly to himself.

As he remained deep in thought, a flake of snow touched his hair.

Maybe, just maybe, Midoriya wasn't so bad.

He didn't have a Quirk, but he was still a good guy. A lot of other kids would be angry or become withdrawn, but Deku was still waiting. Waiting for something that perhaps would never come.

But it was Christmas. Maybe a miracle would occur, and Izuku would get his Quirk.

It was time to exchange presents. And, Bakugou had been presented with a red sweater. He was wearing it now. Both of them were wearing their gifts.

"It's your favorite color Kaachan," Midoriya said with a smile

"But I got you a sweater," he mumbled.

How did he know? How was it possible to know?

Midoriya shrugged. "I guess our thoughts are in tune with each other."

Midoriya leaned in for a hug, and Bakugou didn't fight it.

The new sweater was too warm. Hot, even.

Or, was it Midoriya? Maybe Midoriya was just that warm.

Bakugou had never developed an appreciation for peppermint, but he had a new fondness for Izuku.

Indeed, the green boy had melted his heart.

Deku and Bakugou analysis,a bit of a KatsuDeku theroy post.

Warning!!! This thread is very long and has suggestice themes. Please proceed with caution.

That's way to sus.

One thing I've noticed too,Deku refers and reacts to Bakugou differently than big heros,even ones that he strongly admires,like,really admires,like all might.

Which makes me thinks..Is all the romantic-like shit done on purpose?

Stuff like this:

That first line translates into: The burning longing in my chest will not disappear.

Second line:I want it to change

He said he daydreams about him and Katsuki in some opening I don't remember.

Stars are VERY prominent with them to,after when Deku said that sus line,he looks up at a star,and saids,he wants it to change,ya know,there is also another song about Katsuki and Deku,Its Polaris. It being about Deku and Katsuki,makes a lot of sense.

Heres why;

"If I could go back and give up everything I had,I would never hide my scars for anything. No not for no one"

When Katsuki bullied Deku,he was scar-ed.

It makes sense. He regrets what he did to Deku. Hes trying to Atone. He absolutely hates what he did to Midoriya,and The line saying,"No,not for no one". It makes sense!

Katsuki hid his scars and tried to act like a big and tough boy,which in reality..

He was the weak one. That's canon,that was touched apond in the manga

"Say goodbye ,I don't have the strength to let it all end,I would give all and everything if we could mend,All I wanted was you to stay and not disappear,I've decided I will follow my heart,Promise yours will always be right near me.."

Makes a lot of sense. Let me explain,The "Say goodbye" line is a play on deku leaving U.A,and after that..Bakugou saids this,

"I don't have the strength to let it all end!"

Which is..f***ing heart breaking.. Alright let me bring this up,

Yes, Izuku's exhaustion and pain is the primary focus, but those tiny details imply that Katsuki Bakugou, the guy who has had a strict bedtime and diet his whole life, who puts every bit of effort into his own health, has completely disregarded his self-care to go after Izuku. Which also implies that his body didn't just move on its own when he risked his life for Izuku. It's further evidence that he isn't just trying to atone for his own sake. This guy straight up stopped taking care of himself because he was WORRIED for Izuku. He stopped sleeping in favor of searching. He reaggravated a very serious injury (one that he got already protecting Izuku) in order to protect him AGAIN.

Which..Makes sense... It shows more of a..Softer caring side of Bakugou. It explains it itself.

Wow. If this is Katsuki..Its makes a lot of sense.. He would give..A lot for him and dekus friendship to be better again. That's why he did the training with him.

He would do anything to make the connection with him and deku because..He,wants to mend with Midoriya. Repair the friendship..

But what is really interesting and important is,that,He said "I've decided I will follow my heart,promise yours will also be right near me!" Which means,it wasn't just not his mortal compass..It was also where his,Heart was leading him too..

Which means,Bakugou doesn't just want to mend things for sake of mortality and heroism,but also,it's because..He feels that he should. And I would say he feeling like he should do this because he feels bad for deku,BUT,he said he wants deku heart to stay near his..which means:

It could be platonic-- but...he wants..There..Hearts to be close?? That's oddly specify..He could just say he want them to be close..The thing is,he didn't even have too say anything about hearts..Hearts are symbolized as,a love thing.

You're probably asking "Why does this matter???" Well..Ummm..Look at the background. There bubbles,the trope which is used is called love bubbles.

A romantic moment in anime is often accompanied by a pastel background with lots of bubbles. Nobody knows who wanders into all these series with an invisible bubble machine, but maybe they should stop before they get soap in somebody's eye...

Is..Is he blushing..? That explains the bubble and sparkles..

Wow... This sounds like Bakugou.

Let me explain why it does sounds like Bakugou. Frustration. About something small as that seems like him. It sounds like him too. And also,Bakugou rarely smiles.. I wonder what they where doing which made his heart flutter.

And why it's romantic..? Hear the way that's worded. The person hide the lips after their heart flutters.

And the kanji used for this song is not helping.

They use the words like "Suki" Suki is only plantoic when revfiring to non humans. Deku uses it to Katsuki at the end of the song in another translation like this,

This phrase is commonly used in everyday life. It reveals to the interlocutor that you have feelings for him. It is up to him to interpret the strength of your love.

Think about it. The song said this,

And if you think about,someone of these song lyrics sound like Katsuki himself.

This song is blunt. Blunter,then fuck,and you know who's blunt..?

Katsuki.

I'm not saying he sang all of it.. No. Update actually in the outro points about Deku and makes him the main focus. But,these lines make more sense for Bakugou then Deku,

"If you are, you are, you are, you are,If you are with me,Not back, not down, but the reason I was able to see the front only was,You were here"

Those lines make more sense for s5 bakugou and up,then s3 deku. Let me explain why. "The only reason I was able to see the front is because you where here" remember the apology..? If you don't it's chapter 322

Also for a second,let pay attention to this

It can’t be anybody else, I don’t want anybody else.

That's literally at least saying that Katsuki is VERY special to deku. And the context for this is that,who he'd run away with. It's basically saying he'd spend his life with Katsuki away from everybody else..and he would be..Fine..?

That really saying something about his favoritism to Katsuki-
