Meet the Seiyuu: Floyd Leech

Okamoto Nobuhiko enrolled in Pro Fit Voice Actor Training Institute (the same academy as Sebek’s Ishiya Haruki) while working part-time jobs at McDonald’s, 7-11, the post office and as a security guard in order to pay his tuition.

Today is his birthday!

Okamoto won a voice-acting award for Best Newcomer in 2009, the same year he graduated from university. He would go on to win a best supporting actor award in 2011.

He made his singer debut in 2012 with mini-album “Palette”

At the end of 2021 the Pro Fit agency announced that they would be discontinuing operations for a time. In order to help the voice actors who were being dropped Okamoto established his own agency and was able to successfully transfer over the contracts of nearly all of Pro Fit’s actors in February 2022.

Okamoto is adept at board games. He wished to become a professional shogi player as a child and has received training from professionals. Also a fan of Pokemon, he once interviewed producer Junichi Masuda in an issue of Dengeki Nintendo Magazine.

Okamoto’s first lead character role was in 2006’s Ghost Hunt as John Brown. He has since had lead roles in over 230 video games and anime, including Ivan Karelin in Tiger and Bunny, Dagger in Toboso Yana’s Book of Circus, Katsuki Bakugo in My Hero Academia, Garfiel Tinsel in Re:Zero and more.

Okamoto is a prolific actor, appearing in on-stage musicals and TV shows while also voicing animated movies, providing narration, doing radio shows, dubbing foreign films, recording drama CDs and audio books and more.

Okamoto is a member of the Seiyou Tube Channel on YouTube, which mostly seems to consist of seiyuu who are friends with one another live-streaming video games. He has a video with Silver’s Shimazaki Nobunaga, and this one boxing with Sebek’s Ishiya Haruki

So , let’s pretend this. Let’s say elementary starts at 6 years old. So basically Katsuki “couldn’t make it” or his parents hold him back and he attended elementary school first year just to turn 7 nineteen years later?

Well, that’s the first tip , culturally at least! In Italy this never happens. Some family push the kids to go to school one year earlier , but it’s rather uncommon and usually I happens in demand. Most likely in this country each classmates share the same year of birth, it doesn’t matter the months they were born. If you have a classmate older than you most likely is because they lost some year at some point due to reasons or they didn’t pass the class. And it’s rather uncommon to have a younger classmate.

Which severely confused me since Bakugo is among the best students there , I couldn’t see him failing a class.

Another question than is : when this stops? There are someone other students or there should be others students like him ? Where one should stop counting the cut off assuming a student is one year older ?

I don't know that parents have a choice in Japan. Assuming they don't, the students in first grade all would have their birthdays between one cycle of April 2->April 1 of the next year. Bakugou would have started first grade and turned 7 nineteen days later, yes.

As for where it stops, do you mean Japan or the US? Deku was born in July, so he turned 7 three months after starting first grade, while Shouto didn't turn 7 until January. If Japan, if there is indeed a nonnegotiable April 1 deadline, then anyone could be born up to April 1. and be 344 days younger than Bakugou yet be in the same class.

But in the US, it depends on the state. I was born in late July, so my parents were given the option of holding me back; they didn't. But I had a lot of classmates who were technically born the number year before me, but in like, November-December. So like, if I was born in July 2022 (CLEARLY THIS IS NOT MY BIRTH YEAR), I had classmates born in November 2021 and sometimes October 2021! In college I started having just turned 18, and had a classmate who was still 17 because their birthday was in November and they were not held back. That could be strange given age-of-adulthood permissions for a college kid, but it all worked out lol.

It often happened when one was working, the casual trade of clothes especially when one of them is doing laundry.

“Kacchan? Is this going in your pile or mine?” Izuku asked, holding up a Dynamite hoodie.

“Kora’s. She traded one of her necklaces for it while I’m away.” Bakugo replied.

“You didn’t ask for anything of mine?”

“Deku you do remember that you are coming with me, right?”

“Oh yeah,” Izuku looked down before looking back up, “Kora didn’t ask for anything of mine.”

“She has your blanket, as well as a pair of your pants. Sometimes I wonder if you have any usable memories.”

Other times it’s just soft and easy, like during movie nights with friends. Kora would lean close to Izuku and press soft kisses to his cheek to get his attention before cheekily taking his blanket when he leans in for a kiss on the lips.

Another time which only happened once was in the kitchen when Kora had attempted to cook.

“Kats please just try it, if it’s bad i’ll stop cooking all together.” Kora mumbled out sad that she burnt another meal.

“I won't try it but tomorrow you can help me cook so you can feel like you have achieved something in the kitchen.”

“Izuku’s favourite meal tomorrow for his birthday?”

Katsuki ignored the question and just screamed, “I forgot his birthday!”

You didn’t hear any news from Tenya that weekend, or what condition Ema was in, was your model dead, in shock, quitting, or staying. So when Monday came around and you walked in but the person at the front told you to go to the front office you were a bit worried, since you didn't have a model where you were going to be let go. You walked in and great Bakugo was there, the One your age, not the parents, well his dad was there as well but since he was one of the co-founders it was given.

“OH (name) good you made it, you were the one who found Ema on Friday right?” he said

“Yes.” you said and took a seat

“Well I'm glad you found her when you did, she is in stable condition but gave us her letter of resignation, saying that if your cafeteria can't poison me why should I stay.” He said, a bit perplexed by her words.

“So does that mean my internship is over since my model is gone?” you asked just wanting to get straight to the point.

“No, of course not, lucky for you or unlucky we found out Katsuki designer was stealing the other intern's designs.” He said, ``And really universe, why couldn't you just get a break' ' “There is one thing since a month has passed you two will have to work a bit faster.”

“Don't worry I can do it,” you said

“That's what I like to hear, And Katsuki you are fine with having a female designer right.”

“Yup,” Katsuki said and the two of you left the room and let out a sigh of relief than a sign of agonizing mental pain.

“Oh come on, having me as a model isn't the worst thing in the world,” Katsuki said, you really weren't having a good couple of last days

“OH but it will be the worst thing in the world for you.” you said, ``don't think I'm going to be designing male clothes, you are so wrong.”

“Hey, i anti-wearing any-”

“Oh I'm sorry Bakugou what did you say to me before, oh right my model is going to wear what I want them to wear whether they want to or not, and look I haven't had a good month, I have been belittled, slapped, my boyfriend is somewhere grieving and I can't be there for him, I nearly saw someone die in front of me and have to stab them with a epi-pen, so if you are going to give me a hard time, I am going to design an outfit with a corset so tight your instance will be coming out your mouth!” you said, Man, You sure did look cute when filled with rage

“Noted.” Katsuki said, “also you never wished me a happy birthday.” “I really don't have time for this, but happy late birthday,” you said and opened the door and pulled out your sketches laying them out on the table, you really wasted five-week of progress and now you had to dress up a male model in female clothing- wait that could work a light bulb went over your head

“You really want me to wear this” Katsuki asked

“I have a great idea.” you said “androgenesis clothing, male or female can wear it, see these other interns are limiting themselves down to two areas, what about the areas in between, and your face is perfect for this.”

“Hey what's that supposed to mean?” Katsuki asked

“I mean you have a pretty yet handsome face, you take after your mother's looks but you still come across as masculine, that will be our angel.” You said, Katuski knew he really didn't have a say in this, he wasn't about to throw the last five weeks out the window to become your model only to grow more resentful towards him, he would have to wear the skirt, wouldn't he?

The next day you took out a tape measure and told Bakugou to stand up and put his arms out.

“Why do I have to do this again?” Katsuki asked, he like but didn't like you being that close to him

“Look I have to make six designs, turn them in, and make the one they approve to go down the catwalk at the end, so in doing so I need your measurements, now standstill.” You said as you measured around his chest “At least I can actually get your measurements, unlike my last model.”

“She really did a number on your self-confidence.” Katsuki said

“You don’t even have the slightest idea Bakugou,” you said

“You know if we are going to be paired up for this you can call me by my first name.” He said as you bent down to get his leg measurements

“I think Bakugou works just fine, and I know you have no manners and will keep referring to me by my first name, so the end of the discussion,” you said as you got done writing down his measurements

“Your body type is going to be frustrating to work with.”

“What the hell is that supposed to mean?” Bakugou asked

“You are like an upside-down triangle, I was really hoping to work with an hourglass,” you said

“Scared of challenges, that doesn't sound like you,” Bakugou said

“I said it would be frustrating, not impossible.” you said as you took a book off the shelf and flipped through the pages “I have to submit my first design in like a week. I'm at another disadvantage here, but I have an idea forming.”

“Well while you format that idea I'm going to get something to eat.” He said and got up and went to the cafe, he was disappointed that once again being near you wasn't living up to his expectations, at least he could get an up-close look at your thinking face since he sat in front of you he never really got that many chances.

Days passed and you finally were able to come up with something that looked plausible.

“What is up with the corset?” Katsuki said as you held it up

“Bakugou they are coming back into fashion, and besides you have a tiny waist and broad shoulder, so if we add just a little bit of padding to your hips, it will look perfect, besides most corsets aren't tight sinched anyways,” you said

“Okay We'll take this into consideration, if that design gets chosen will you be able to make a corset.”

“I will learn,” you said, and there was the driving factor of why Katsuki liked you so much, he gave a half-smile

“Okay, I believe you.” He said and sat down, ``We have to turn them in by the end of the day anyway, but what idea do you have next?”

“OH that's easy, a praying mantis,” you said as you were putting the books back on the shelf

“(name) this isn't a Halloween party you can't dress me up like a damn bug,” Katsuki said

“I will know it's a praying mantis, the others won't, it's called subtly Bakugou, something you should learn.” You replied and put your final design in the yellow envelope and went to go turn it in, seeing the other interns was very surreal, you stuck out like a sore thumb, people who came from money, you could easily tell by their shoes, fashion always started at the feet, you were wearing the same shoes you wore while heading to highschool. Still, you handed in your envelope and went back, everything was so surreal in this place.

You were packing up your bag and checked your phone still nothing from tenya, was his brother really okay, you haven't heard from him at all

“What's with the long face, another intern gives you trouble?” Katsuki asked

“No.” you said and put your phone away, you really didn't want to tell Bakugou of all people that you hadn’t heard from your boyfriend since that day. And you tried your best to avoid that conversation for the next month but Bakugou was really praying in it.

“So why did you choose the praying mantis for this? Bakugou asked

“Bakugou when people think of a praying mantis they always think of the females, we associate the mantis with a female, even though male mantis exist, so that is why.” You said “also the back reminds me of a tailcoat, and green is a nice color, I was thinking of dark green. now stand up I need to see what swatch looks best.” you said, as you heard your phone ring, you dropped the swatches and picked up

“(name) it has been a while, sorry for my absence, a lot has happened,” Tenya said

“Heys it's okay really, how is your brother doing?” you asked

“He woke up, he was drifting in and out for so long, he got a concussion from the wreck, but I want to talk to you face to face.” He said, “Can we schedule something for tomorrow.”

“Of course, can you meet me up at my internship then,” you said

“That works, I'll see you tomorrow,” Tenya said, and you hung up

“Was that your boyfriend finally calling you after like six weeks?” Bakugou asked holding the swatches

“His brother got in a wreck, he should be there for him.” You said looking through the colors, the mantis was more light green but Bakugou would look better in dark green.

“(name) I'm noticing a pattern here, first your parents leave you to finish high school by yourself to care for your grandpa, and now your boyfriend left for six weeks to look after his brother. Have you ever had anyone look after you?”

“I can take care of myself just fine, there is no reason why people would need to take care of me.” you said “now let's stop talking about my personal life and choose one of these.” YOu said handing him two dark greens

“They look the same,” Bakugou said

“No, this one has a more yellow tint, and this one is leaning more towards the blue tint.” you corrected him, “now choose one and we can go home.”

You were finally able to walk home after a back and forth about what color you should use, and what right did Bakugou have to tell you that people don't look after you, who cares, you could take perfect care of yourself.

KAtsuki knew that was wrong though, if you kept working the way you did, you would run yourself into the ground from stress, he should know that better than anyone, being called a gifted kid in preschool and elementary school for his academics talent, when he started to notice in middle school his grades were becoming average, he worked harder, and harder, to the point his insomnia was helping him study more. He never had anyone to look after him, a part of him didn't want to, which made him feel weak. Maybe that is why he hated you at first in the first year.

“Hey, are you okay?” You asked him as Katsuki was trying his best to stay awake, he had barely gotten three hours of sleep and was somehow functioning on three cups of coffee and a bagel

“I'm fine.” He said, his headache was killing him, why the hell were you talking to him right now

“You don't look okay, here I'll take you to the nurse's office.”

“I don't need your damm help so piss off!” Bakugou yelled at you, you dug through your bag and took out an ibuprofen

“Well you look like you have a headache to take this at least,” you said and left, that really set him off, who the hell were you to look down on him like that. He got up and went to the water fountain and popped the pill, still upsetting him.

And that's where he knew he made his first mistake, if Bakugou could go back and slap his younger self he would.
