Doubt I will ever turn this into a full fic but Bilbo being the hero of Erebor for saving Thorin and the boys in the battle of the five armies. Being awarded such a high title makes him an honorary dwarf and his skills at political niceties from dealing with nosy neighbors and family in the Shire lead Thorin to ask him to be on his council.
Because of all this Bilbo is allowed and actually encouraged to learn Khuzdul. Him and Ori are making progress but it's not like any language Bilbo has learned before and he is quite busy helping with the rebuilding as are the whole company.
One day at a lunch that most of the company has managed to make time for Thorin loudly calls to Bilbo and the table goes silent. Thorin stands and motions for Bilbo to stand as well. A few mutters of about time can be heard and Thorin starts to blush. He proceeds to look Bilbo in the eyes and ask in Khuzdul if Bilbo will agree to allow him, Thorin Oakenshield king under the mountain, to court him with the intention of marriage.
Bilbo can tell whatever Thorin said is serious, he understood it was a question that involved Thorin and himself but not what exactly. Bilbo can see Thorin blushing harder and feel all the stares of the company members who were there so decides he'll agree for now and figure out later what the question really was.
Thorin smiles broadly and gently taps Bilbo's forehead with his. Fili and Kili make a joyful noise and jump up to hug him and Thorin and the rest assembled clap and offer congratulations. Bilbo is happy to have made them all happy and to get physical affection from Thorin.
Thorin is more affectionate over the next weeks and finds time to have private meals with Bilbo where they discuss everything going on and their childhoods and favorite things.
It's nearly a month later when Ori asks how the courtship is going and Bilbo realizes what's happened. He panics for a few days about all the things, them being different races, Thorin being king, what other kingdoms will think, what other dwarves think, what his own family will think, etc. Then Fili and Kili come to ask what's wrong and tell him they're worried since he's been off the psst few days. While trying to cheer him up they tell him how much they all care for him and how much the dwarves of Erebor like him and how happy he makes Thorin. That's what makes him think about what he wants and how he feels and that is definitely wanting to keep the courtship going.

Hobbits were secretive little creatures. They closely guarded one thing. Two things. Ok they close guarded a lot of things. But so did the dworrow. So can you really blame him when the company finds out their supposedly loved burglar has the magic of earth at his fingertips?

I’ve just barely started writing the draft for my bagginsheild fanfic based on Snow White and now beauty and the beast it’s staring at me expertly from the corner…
Like what do you mean I can’t write a fic where bilbo stumbles upon a castle under the rule of a dragon-esk monster who turns out to be a dwarvern king gone mad and he has to find love in something other then material possession to break his curse, and Oop here comes bilbo

Winter Lull
As described by Mr. Bilbo, the place were hobbits truly lie is in "peace and quiet and good tilled earth". Hobbits are often seen spending much of their time outside in their gardens under the sun. However, what about when the sun only shines upon hobbit kind for a few hours?
Just as hobbits are drawn outside during spring by the sunlight and development of new life, during winter hobbits act much like most everything else in nature; they slow down. If one were to take a stroll through Bag End during the snowfall they would notice the residents spend most of their time deep within the comforting warmth of their homes. Letting their bodies rest; sleeping and relaxing with family before the breeze turns warm and the garden soil once again beckons.
The other species of Middle Earth do not feel this instinctual need to pull inward toward community and relaxation. Most elves or dwarves, if asked, are very unlikely to even know about this endearing habit of the smallest of middle-earths people. Of course, this was no problem. That was until one particularly adventurous hobbit brought a pack of dwarves to Bag End just before winter.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
The Battle of the five armies had taken a lot from the dwarfs but in the end, they were able to reclaim their home. Bilbo could hardly walk away from the dwarves he had come to care for as his family. There was too much to do in Erebor; Thorin may have been capable leader, but even the best of kings could use a little help. After all Bilbo had seen and experienced, what would a few more days away from home be?
Months later, when the work slowed, Bilbo made plans to return home. It was intended to be a simple affair but after the twins caught word of the upcoming trip, Bilbo found himself with a party of dwarves to see to his safe return. (Dwarfs who completely ignored his insistence that after getting rid of a dragon and riding into war, he was more than capable of handling a simple walk home.)
The slow transition of Bilbos behavior was not first noticed by his friends. The trip back to Bag End wasn't the rushed and desperate affair that their last journey had been. Bilbos 2nd meal helpings and afternoon naps didn't faze a single one of them. After all, he had done so much for them! Who were they to begrudge him a touch of leisure? They hardly experience any conflict during the trip. That was until they got to those quaint little rolling hills to discover that Bilbo's home had been picked clean of each and every possession.
It was quite a sight for residents of Hobbiton. A troupe of angry dwarves banging down doors, demanding the return of possessions to a hobbit that they had declared dead months ago. After so long having to sit in dull meetings and mourn the loss of far too many of their own a bit of mischief and trouble making was exactly what the Twins needed. Even Thorn himself almost seemed to enjoy staring down Bilbos more precocious relatives. With the neighbors to intimidate and possessions to reclaim, the sedate nature of their hobbit continued to go unnoticed.
Oddly enough Killi was the first to take note. One day, Bilbo fell asleep hardly 20 minutes after he had eaten breakfast. A few days later, when he slipped into a nap after luncheon, Balin was rather concerned that it took a considerable racket to wake him back up. Before the quest none of them had spent any significant time around hobbits. They didn't know what sickness looked like in someone who wasn't a dwarf. Worry spread among them all that something was terribly wrong with their dear friend. The dwarfs began once more to make trips to the doors of the other hobbits in hopes to learn about the illnesses that was afflicting Bilbo. But as each of them went from one door to the next hardly anyone was awake. Those who answered acted as if something had been slipped into their pipe weed. Whatever had happened to Bilbo seemed to have spread to all of Hobbiton almost overnight.
When supper came Bilbo finally seemed to have enough energy to truly engage with them. The Twins would hardly move from his side and Dwalin kept pressing mug after mug of black tea into Bilbo's hand. Even more worrisome was the fact that Bilbo was deeply confused as to why they were acting this way. Eventually it was Bofur who broke. His eyes began to water as he told Bilbo how much he will be missed when this illness brings his end.
This led to a several hours long (and rather exhausting) lecture from Bilbo about the intricacies of Hobbit sleeping habits.
To this day Thorin insists he knew all along that Bilbo was fine.

#𝐂𝐚𝐥𝐦𝐖𝐫𝐢𝐌𝐨 (2023)
Tumblr media
This year I wanted to participate in some variation of NanoWriMo, but 50k words is 100% not feasible for me, especially since I'm picking up new hobbies outside of writing and my job. (Thank you so much @winterandwords for starting this #calmwrimo event!)
I always set goals for myself each month as far as a word count goes, as well as what chapters I want to write, what things to edit, etc, but I kind of what to keep track of it this November, mostly as a test run to see if doing updates throughout next year during my writing journey is worth it or not.
𝐍𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫 𝐆𝐨𝐚𝐥𝐬
20k word count
Finish both THAUC fics (3.5 chapters to go in total)
Work on my oneshot for @tolkienpinupcalendar's 2024 calendar
Finish outlining - Kurdu 'abadaz
Finish outlining - Let Only By The Stars (coming 2024)
Editing (there's lots of this to do...)
Post at least (2) fic updates, alongside my 2 Scribbles & Drabbles oneshots
Begin structuring my 2024 writing goals
It feels like a lot to me, but I am hopeful that I can get a good portion of this list done. I am very excited for 2024, and I am trying really hard to get a better grip on my writing schedule, so I can update things more frequently, and begin new Bagginshield stories that I have planned!
Good luck to everyone this next month whether you're participating in NanoWriMo, CalmWriMo, or just taking a nice break!

Some sketches today. This belongs to a Swan Princess AU, but instead of a Swan, Thorin transforms into a dragon during the day, and gets goldsick as morning approaches. With moonlight, he goes back to being a dwarf. It’s another of my fic wips 😅
“It has already started! When the sun comes out, the beast will take control. My mind won’t be my own anymore. You must leave. Get out of the Mountain!”
“Im not leaving you here!”
“Frerin. Please. Take him out of here.”
The former king fell to his knees then, as a jolt of pain ran up his spine like lightning. It was familiar already. His skin ached were the scales were breaking it to get out, and he could feel the strong headache of the horns pushing outside his skull.
His eyes were burning, too. As well as his throat.
The sun was rapidly falling down the horizon.
“You must go! Now!”
“Thorin…”
Almost chocking on a scream, Thorin gasped for air, fixing his eyes on Bilbo’s horrified expression. His voice, when he next managed to speak, was but the deep growl of a beast.
“LEAVE.”

FIC IDEA VAULT #15: A BAGGINSHIELD AFTERLIFE REUNION/TIME TRAVEL/ FIX-IT/BILBO DESTROYS THE RING IN PLACE OF FRODO FIC
Back on my Bagginshield era, I'm reading fics on them (I stopped bc various SW ships and other ships had me on a chokehold, how about those last 15 on Good Omens Ep6?? :c) and listening to my playlist once more, I think I had since the start of the year with hardly any of my OTP around (except for my phone background) ANYWAY this is to inform you I am also back on my bullshit and I come with another fic idea, which will be put on hold until I can complete the other 164453196859 ideas I have. Ok, not that many, but I do have a lot of very detailed ideas that I do want to write and a bunch of half sentenced ones that are just ideas, so here we goooooooo
Bilbo dies on the way to Valinor and awakens on it as his 50 year old self, to the astonishment of the Elves, Gandalf and Frodo. Something is wrong with the afterlife, it is in the air and everyone is on edge, Frodo most of all, as he has felt this presence before.
Sauron may have died on Arda, but he was still in part present in the afterlife, wrecking havoc on everything. Bilbo embarks to the green hills of Yavanna's garden, the land where all Hobbits go, with Frodo and Gandalf. Upon reunitign with family and friends, Yavanna herself welcomes the brave hobbits but Bilbo can notice the tense manner in which she speaks to Gandalf and offers his help. Yavanna informs them that the various lands of the Valar are on lockdown as they face attacks from the darkness and they fear they may not last until Iluvitar can help them, but that is a mission that Gandalf and the other wizards don't know how long it will take. She is afraid for her husbands and needs a way to contact him. She believes having them all cut off from each other was the wrong choice, uniting their forces they will be able to hold off the darkness better than on their own. So, Bilbo is determined to once more become a burglar and enter another mountain. Yavanna does warn him though that this time, the dragon is on the outside of the mountain. Sauron has set Smaug onto the Mountain that is Mahal's domain.
Bilbo sets off with four trouble hobbits to sneak into the Dwarven Halls, managing to distract the dragon enough that he ramms into the mountain and knocks himself out. They find a way inside and find a funny scene, Bilbo's dwarves are attempting to take down the front doors, despite their maker trying to make them see reason. They had heard Smaug's attempts to draw them out, the last thing the dragon had told them, aimed at Thorin himself, was that he was going to go to the Gardens to find Bilbo himself and get his revenge. Bilbo had at that moment drawn away his attention and having not heard the thunderous racket for awhile, the dwarves inside had panicked and were now attempting to try to kill the dragon themselves. Bilbo laughs at their ridiculousness and is almost squished by 13 dwarves. Mahal knows they wouldn't be there unless his wife had sent them and Bilbo gives him the message Yavanna had given him.
Mahal himself is now more than ever determined to find a way to stop the rampage that Sauron is inflicting on their lands. He goes out the way the hobbits came in to take care of a knocked out Smaug, and together, the hobbits, the dwarves and a Valar set off for the Gardens once more.
Reunited, the Valar are planning and discarding plans faster than the others can follow, until Mahal has a very dangerous plan, which he calls the Durin Last Resort.
The reason that Sauron is now able to still remain in lands of the Valar is because he was able to draw power from the remaining rings still in Middle Earth at the time of the War of the Ring, destroying it had not completely cut him off. The other rings had to be found and destroyed before the One Ring was finally banished, only then would Sauron finally be defeated. Time was not a straight line, it happened all at once, and still, Mahal and Yavanna could sent people back as Mahal had done before for Durin in his various reincarnations.
This makes Frodo almost collapse from the anxiety, but he swears that he will try his best if he is asked to be the Ring Bearer again. Bilbo can't take seeing his dear nephew in so much pain, not when he knows that he wasted so much time by doing nothing but using the ring as a simple party trick. He offers himself to go and be the Ring Bearer this time, reasoning that even if Frodo went back to the beginning of his adventure, Sauron already had plenty of time to be prepared and on the lookout for the Ring, but when Bilbo got the Ring himself, Sauron was not strong enough to do much but be the necromancer.
Mahal agrees but Yavanna is not happy. She refuses to put Bilbo in such danger, unless the company also go with him. She wishes for this to be a second chance for the line of Durin, and thus Bilbo wouldn't be alone on his trials. They cannot be sure exactly when Bilbo will go back to, just that it will before the retaking of Erebor. He will also be the only one who will initially have his memories, everyone else will need to be told a special message to unlock those memories back in the world of the living.
Bilbo is then send back in time and back to life a couple of years before his adventure and sets to making things right not just for his friends but also for many others in his life.
Anway, sorry for the innaccuracies on the Valar and everything else, I will not read the Silm and will just wing it lol. Essentially, I want BAMF Bilbo who gets to reunite with his dwarves in the afterlife, and then gets send back into his past to redo the Quest and also go on to destroy the Ring in the place of Frodo. If he and his King are able to finally stop being idiots and actually speak on their feelings, well, we will see. Those two are worse at communication than an angel and demon I know, so it might take a while lol.
Any comments are welcome!

Fic Idea:
Bilbo leaves Erebor shortly after the battle thinking that Thorin died from his wounds. X number of months later, Thorin knocks on his door well after night has fallen. Bilbo automatically and immediately assumes he has finally cracked and gone completely mad and is now hallucinating his friend. For several weeks he ensures he is never out in public with Thorin, not wanting the other Hobbits to see him carrying on a conversation with thin air. Thorin thinks Bilbo is ashamed of him and his actions when he was taken by his gold madness.
Either angst or hilarity ensues. Or both.

#Bagginshieldtober day 6: Recovery
I thought I'd give a go at @smolestboop's bagginshieldtober prompt list!
Day 6 is: Recovery. This is my first time doing a prompt, challenge...thing...so I hope it is okay! Let me know if you like it, or if there is a specific prompt you'd really like me to write a fic for! They all make for such good prompts, and I'm hoping to do more.
Anyway, here's my fic...
Fic: Recovery
Word count: 6,116
Summary: After the Battle of Five Armies, Thorin decides to take responsibility for what has happened to Bilbo, and leaves for the Shire to tell the Thain of what had transpired. The only problem is...is that Thorin has no clue what a "Thain" is exactly, and why he needs to tell him of what happened to Bilbo.

Uhm...yeah. Like 2 days ago I was on here whining about lacking motivation and creativity and all that crap. And last night while I couldn't sleep, I jotted down SEVEN Bagginshield Modern AU story ideas into my phone. Yep. 7. When it rains it...yeah. apparently.
I'm not saying I'm going to write all 7 (2 for sure because they're not bad LOL) but I will post some to put them up for adoption if anyone is interested. I seriously doubt I'll write these --
Thorin is a professional baseball pitcher who gets injured and Bilbo is the orthopedic surgeon who has to tell him his career is over.
Bilbo is a famous movie director and Thorin is the high-maintenance famous actor he hires.
Thorin is a robotics engineer and secretly creates what he considers to be the perfect humanoid robot. A Bionics Intelligence Lab Biped Organism - or BILBO. His most advanced and realistic robot yet.

One thing most races of middle earth did not know about Hobbits, and believe me they know very little regardless, was the fact that every Hobbit adorned a tail. One not unlike a lions.
Mehal thought it would be funny, Yavanna mused her husband by never changing it. Now down the line they both watch to see it might of not been such a good idea after all. Considering a certain hobbit could not catch a single break from any of his dworrow companions. Most certainly not his one.

Potential fanfic:
Hi! If you were around earlier or have just happened upon this in the tags, I’ve somewhat drafted up a couple chapters of a Hobbit fic I’ve had in the works over the past year.
I plan for it to be an insert of me and my friend in the hobbit (I’ll describe it more in bullet point at the end) and we’ve shipped ourselves each a character.
I understand that this would be classed as ‘x oc’, but I may also tag it as ‘x reader’, since I am considering making a reader insert version with no name/(y/n).
Also I haven’t written or posted on here since I was 14. I’m 18 now but I’m quite nervous about posting work on here, which is why I’ve posted this. Anyway, if you’re interested in my fic along with the potential of a (y/n) version, here’s a summery:
I haven’t come up with a name yet, so for the past year I have called it ‘BIG SOUP’.
Two main characters, reader is called Kate and her bff is called Kay.
Classic modern girl(s) in middle earth
Set in first pov
Uses she/her pronouns (I may make the (y/n) version gender neutral)
Kili x reader/oc (u know I want my dwarf hubby)
Fili x oc (if u like this version and want a Kay/reader PoV for fili, lemme know)
SUPER SLOW BURN, LIKE, U GET LITERAL CRUMBS FOR A V LONG TIME
Slow paced writing (I have adhd, so I’m gonna cram in as much as I can, so don’t be afraid to comment or dm me, I need the constructive criticism)
Funny (I try to be anyway)
Bit insane in some places
VERY chaotic
Found family
Bagginshield ofccccc u know we need our daily dose
LGBT+ representation (mostly aromantic/asexual rep)
Magic / Harry Potter references (like spells and such)
If you like the sound of it, pls let me know! I have anxiety about posting so I sorta need the encouragement :’)
Hope you have a lovely day! <3

Whats the favorite fic you have going on atm??
Thank you for the ask! This is such a tough question though. 😭 Okay I'm going to divide this up into two pieces: established WIPs and future WIPs.
So my favorite established fic (this is so close though!) would have to be Ambassador to Madness. I'm just really in the zone with this fic right now and I'm loving the pacing which doesn't happen a lot with my ongoing fics.
As for my favorite future fic...okay so I've traveled down a rabbit hole recently. I had an idea for a Robin Hood bagginshield fic that I was SO EXCITED about, but all of my knowledge comes from older movies/books. So I thought I would do some research on BBC Robin Hood (because Richard as Guy...😳). And now I've traveled too far down the fanfiction rabbit hole and have a Robin/Guy fic that I can't stop thinking about. But really guys...how could you expect me to resist the childhood rivals to enemies to lovers angle?

I wish you would write a fic where soul mates are easier to identify between races in The Hobbit. If you recognize me, I'm the one who's crazy about your Bagginshield time travel fic. (I still pray for updates. I hope you get inspired soon.) Anyways, in this fic, I thought it might be cool if it worked off of the race's maturation points. Basically Thorin thinking he either doesn't have a soul mate or they never were interested in seeking him out. He's had Bilbo's mark before his Hobbit was born, so he assumes that they're close in age. He's never heard of how it works when one side is way younger. Besides, he has his people to take care of, shelter to find, food to procure. Thorin is Busy. So when Bilbo comes of age and feels the Pull, he realizes that he's the youngest. (I like the idea where the youngest is the one who gets a pull towards their soul mate, just to make sure everyone's old enough without that weird I've seen you grow up thing.) So he packs his bag since surely he's matched with a Hobbit and he won't be gone long. Even the other Hobbits don't mind Hobbits going on The Search, so Bilbo won't be discouraged from that. And our lonely boy would definitely pursue a promise of a soul mate. At least in this he will. Then he realizes he's almost at the Border of the Shire and he's concerned since the Pull is still leading him out. He dithers then stops by Bree to restock and ends up following the Pull all the way to the Blue Mountains. That's all I've got. I hope this sets off rabid plunnies in your head.
Hello! ^_^
(Yes, I recognise your username ^_^ I've actually been poking Not All Who Wander recently. Still a bit stuck, unfortunately, and not writing much anyway, but it's on my brain so -shrugs- we'll see what the muse feels like, I guess ^^")
Oh, I have a lot of Thoughts about how soulmarks might work in LotR. I've even written some snippets written out, but nothing particularly coherent ^^"
I am Obsessed with the idea of the different races having different kinds of soulmark (as you might know if you've seen my ATLA soulmates series ^^"). I'm not sure about the idea of hobbits getting An Urge To Go, it seems very counter to hobbit culture, and I doubt that they would have ended up quite so home-body-ish if such an important aspect of their culture was based on feeling a call to adventure (even if it does end up usually being only to the next town over). (It fits very well with elves, though. They already have that sort of thing written into canon, after all.)
My usual headcanon for Bagginshield in a soulmates AU is hobbits can only see in colour after they've met their soulmate, and dwarves have a heartsong. So Bilbo knows the moment he opens his door that Thorin is his soulmate, and Thorin doesn't have a freaking clue until... well, depends on whether you want tragic or fix-it, but towards the end of the quest, at least.
But I am intrigued by the idea of Bilbo being the one with A Clue He Can Follow. My first thought is to go basic for hobbits and say they have a name-mark, and Bilbo is born with a name no hobbit can read.
I can't imagine Belladonna leaving well enough alone here, so it probably would end up with Bilbo being fairly young throughout the story... unless the mark only comes in as a sort of puberty thing, maybe. And then you'd get Bilbo following in his mother's footsteps and making the trek to Bree looking for Answers, and then on to Rivendell when none of the men can read his mark. Elrond would, of course, be able to tell him what it says.
I am equally amused by the idea of Elrond telling Bilbo the tale of Thorin Oakenshield and Bilbo being very nervous at the idea of such a Heroic soulmate (and then very unimpressed at his Rudeness when he does meet him), and the idea of Elrond not telling Bilbo squat about Thorin except where to find him (but then, I've kind of already done the 'wait, King Thorin???!?!?!' thing in Not All Who Wander, so... maybe the former?)
Either way, Bilbo then has to go all the way back through the Shire and out the other side to go poking around for dwarves in the Blue Mountains.
Maybe in this, it's the dwarves who only get colour-vision when they meet their soulmate? Thorin plagued by wondering if his soulmate isn't already dead. Maybe they died when Smaug came, or at Azanulbizar, or- or- or-
And then this fussy little hobbit turns up on his doorstep and ~Colours~ happen and he's got no idea if he's happy or furious or worried about this.
