मुर्गीपालन (Poultry Farming): छोटे किसानों और ग्रामीण युवाओं की आमदनी बढ़ाने के साथ ही उनकी पोषण की ज़रूरतों को पूरा करने के लिए बैकयार्ड मुर्गी पालन (Backyard Poultry Farming) एक अच्छा विकल्प है। साथ ही देश में अंडे और चिकन की बढ़ती ज़रूरतों को पूरा करने के लिए भी मुर्गी पालन को बढ़ावा देना ज़रूरी है। इसलिए वैज्ञानिक लगातार इसकी उन्नत नस्ल विकसित करते रहते हैं।

ऐसी ही एक नस्ल है कैरी निर्भीक जिसे केंद्रीय पक्षी अनुसंधान संस्थान (CARI) ने विकसित किया है। बैकयार्ड मुर्गीपालन करने वाले किसानों के लिए ये नस्ल बहुत ही बेहतरीन है, क्योंकि ये उनकी कई समस्याओं का समाधान करके मुनाफ़ा बढ़ाने में मदद करती है।

बैकयार्ड के लिए बेस्ट

कैरी निर्भीक रंगीन और दोहरे प्रकार का देसी चिकन है, जिसका उत्पादन ख़ासतौर पर अंडे और मांस के लिए किया जाता है। इस नस्ल की ख़ासियत ये है कि ये बैकयार्ड मुर्गी पालन में आने वाली सभी समस्याओं को दूर करते है जैसे- शिकार की समस्या, प्रतिकूल जलवायु, खराब पोषण और उत्पादकता। दरअसल, ये पक्षी कठोर प्रकृति का है, इसका पंख रंगीन, शरीर हल्का, प्रतिरक्षा बेहतर और विकास दर अच्छी होने की वजह ये सभी समस्याओं से निपटने में सक्षम है। इसकी अंडे देने की क्षमता भी ज़्यादा है।

कैरी निर्भीक की अहम विशेषताएं

पक्षियों की ये नस्ल अपने उग्र और लड़ाकू स्वभाव के लिए जानी जाती है। इनका चलने का तरीका भी दूसरी मुर्गी से अलग होता है। ये शुद्ध देसी मुर्गी है। इनका रंग लाला और पीला होता है, गर्दन लंबी और टांगे मज़बूत होती हैं। सालाना ये मुर्गी 170 से 190 अंडे देती है। इसे घर के पीछे की थोड़ी सी जगह में भी पाला जा सकता है। जिन किसानों की आर्थिक स्थिति अच्छी नहीं है, वो भी कम खर्च में मुर्गी पालन की शुरुआत कर सकते हैं।

We picked up a new cemani hen. Local guy sold her to us because she doesn’t lay many eggs and his flock were massive bullies to her. Basically, he got nothing from keeping her and she was unhappy with him, so he figured it’d be better to find her a different home.

So far she’s pretty skittish, which is to be expected considering how her old flock acted. We’re going to take her to a vet, and if everything comes up clear then we’ll work on introducing her to everyone else after some quarantine time.

Her name is Dahlia.

The weather went from bitterly cold to sunny and beautiful, so I let the chickens outside for a little while to enjoy it while it lasts! They were so happy to be able to roll in the dirt!
