“The thing is,” Tony said, “it feels stupid to complain. Like I don’t appreciate all the amazing things in my life.”
“And yet, you’re going to complain anyway,” Natasha said, but she looked vaguely amused, so that was probably all right. It had taken Tony a while to understand that his lead guitarist and second vocalist hid her affection behind sarcasm, and her concern behind fierceness. He knew how to read her now, though.
“I’m going to complain anyway,” he agreed. “Not that I expect you to agree. Your snugglebunny is traveling with us.”
“Sam is part of the band, so it would be difficult to have a tour without him,” she agreed solemnly.
“Why did I agree to a tour over Christmas?” Tony wondered.
“Because it’s the time of year when everyone is digging a little deeper into their pockets?” Natasha guessed. She reached over the table to snare his glass. She rolled the liquor around, watching the way it clung to the glass, and then helped herself to a swallow. “You could’ve dated someone in the band, too, you know. Steve is right there.”
Tony made a face. “Dating in the band leads to band drama,” he said morosely. “And trust me, if I dated Steve, there would be nothing but drama.”
“That’s true,” Natasha conceded. “The world’s finest songwriting duo, but as soon as he steps away from the keyboard, you’re at each other’s throats.” She grinned. “It would be fantastic publicity.”
Tony rolled his eyes. “But here I am, on Christmas Eve, drinking alone in an empty hotel bar.”
“What am I, the Ghost of Christmas Past?”
Tony waved a hand dismissively. “You’re just waiting for Sam to get back from the roadies’ Christmas party and then you’ll go back to your room and have wild monkey sex while wearing nothing but a mistletoe headband and a pair of socks with jingle bells sews into them.”
“That is a disturbingly specific mental image,” Natasha said, stealing another sip of his whiskey. “You’re not usually this down after a show. Did something go wrong?”
The show itself had been great. The hall had been sold out, the fans had been beside themselves with excitement, and they’d rounded out the set lit and encores with some holiday tunes that they’d reworked into the Avengers’ signature style, which had been a huge hit. Tony would normally have still been riding the high, but— “Bucky didn’t text me before the show.”
“That’s odd,” Natasha admitted. “Is he okay?”
“Yeah, he sent one a bit later. I got it while we were breaking down.”
“So?”
“So it’s Christmas Eve and I’m stuck in a hotel twelve hundred miles from my boyfriend and I don’t even have any of his eggnog to keep me warm.”
“Bucky does make the best eggnog,” Natasha said. “I can never go back to the crappy stuff out of a carton.” She made a show of looking at her wrist, which didn’t have a watch on it. “And it’s Christmas Day, by now.”
“Thanks, that makes it all better,” Tony snarked.
Natasha glanced past Tony, toward the bar door. “Sam’s back,” she said, standing up. “Time to go have wild monkey sex.”
“Don’t forget the socks,” Tony said, rallying enough to give her a quick smile. “Thanks for letting me complain.”
“You owe me,” Natasha said, giving him the small, secretive smile that was ten times more genuine than the wide, cheerful one she reserved for the stage and the fans.
“What else is new? Go on, have fun. I don’t want to see or hear either of you until we’re loading the bus on the 26th. Enjoy your day off.”
“I intend to. You too.”
Tony snorted and took a slow sip of his whiskey so he wouldn’t be tempted to turn around and watch her walk away.
“Merry Christmas, baby,” said Bucky, and Tony turned around so fast he got dizzy and nearly knocked over his chair.
“Bucky?” Tony’s boyfriend was standing there, a thickly-stuffed backpack over one shoulder. “What the— How the hell did you get here?”
“Airplane,” Bucky said with a grin, and offered Tony a thermos. “Couldn’t stand the thought of you having to drink crappy carton eggnog on Christmas.”
Tony took the thermos and immediately set it aside, then flung himself into Bucky’s arms, laughing. “Oh, god, I can’t believe you’re here.”
“I was supposed to be in time for the show,” Bucky said, “but the flight got delayed.” He buried his face against Tony’s neck, squeezing tight. His nose was cold, and Tony didn’t care at all. “Missed you, doll.”
“I missed you, too,” Tony sighed. “Merry Christmas.”

New Book Covers!
Gonna fangirl about the new book covers for a minute because I am OBSESSED with them.
(Long Post Warning!)
First up, Pirate's Heart. Mostly because it's maybe the greatest thing I've ever written, partly because I just love love the aesthetic and how it represents the over arching theme of Stuckony's romance, first sailing into the proverbial storm of lies and misunderstandings and angst and then finding the sunset and horizon and peace on the other side of the storm.
Next Up! Fair Game! It's a super simple design for a legit complicated story but hiking boot prints and wolf prints right next to each other perfectly fits the idea of wolf shifters PLUS it's a nod to how Game Warden Clint tried so hard to work with the pack rather than treat them as less-than-human like the previous wardens AND of course... all the scenes where Wolf!Bucky walks alongside Clint through the woods and they end up falling more in love.
Broken Wings! Even though the verse ended up literally wildly massive with an additional 10 (??) extra books/chapters added to the original story, my first idea for Broken Wings centered around Bucky recovering from Hydra and then of course Tony getting his wings damaged in Afghanistan so I went with coal black feathers (for Bucky) against a pure white background (felt like healing??) and I adore it.
Lost and Found. I only have a couple purely Winteriron full length books, which seems bananas cos they are a Top Three Pairing for me and tbh my obsession with Bucky is about the least subtle thing about me. The top half of the cover is meant to be Chapter One Bucky who had been mind wiped then dumped in an alley alone and lost, and the bottom half is Tony staring up at the stars after accepting his palladium related upcoming death.
Newest BillySteve Fic! "He Loves Me (not)". I am just obsessed with this set of covers. The daisy being full and thriving against a background blue like Billy's eyes... and then the (not) book being black with the daisy petals torn up? Obsessed.
Sugar Seeking Sugar! I love this one! I pictured it like snapshots from Stony's life together. Steve and Tony holding hands. Baby Peter with the giant Costco stuffed bear. Tony on his tiptoes kissing his Alpha. The brownstone Steve thought was so lonely until Tony and Peter moved in. The world famous Third Date Spaghetti and the wine Tony loves so much. The watch Steve bought to replace the one Tony had to return to buy diapers. I literally love everything on this cover.

I also really love how Vashoth handles the Post-CW situation with Steve, allowing Tony and Steve to heal from what happened and resolve their issues in what feels like a very natural way. I love this fic to bits, and I'm sure you would too!

Summary: Ever since he was a child, Tony had wanted to know the reasons behind the way things were the way they were.
Ever since he was a child, Tony had wanted to know the reasons behind the way things were the way they were. Ana still teased him about it, saying that ‘Why?” was his favorite word as a child. In many ways, it still was.
While his restless, curious nature generally dealt with the physical world - and yes, as far as he was concerned, math was a part of said physical world - lately Tony had found himself asking questions about his inner self.
When had his interest in Captain America’s sidekick Bucky Barnes gone from hero worship to something different? Why did he find Aunt Peggy’s stories about the Howling Commandos - specifically Sergeant Barnes - so compelling? Did that make him gay, and if so, How could that be if he still liked girls, too?
Tony knew that these were all dangerous questions, once that he didn’t dare ask anyone – not even Jarvis. So he set them aside, treating them as they were his own Riemann hypothesis or Hodge conjecture. Maybe someday he’d have the background and understanding to answer them.

Did you write a winter iron story? Did I imagine this in a fever dream? I can’t seem to find it on AO3. I was wondering if maybe the private collection error might’ve happened to it?
I did in fact write a Winteriron story! It's Tony Stark and the Mysterious Marksman, an ~18k story set in Marvel Noir, for the 2017 Cap RBB for Wren's art. As far as I know, the private collection error hasn't happened to it -- the only collection it's in is the RBB collection, which is public.
(Also, I've been told that the private collection error doesn't happen anymore? I can't personally attest to this, but I think what I heard is that you will now be notified if a collection your fic is in goes private.)
I am also currently writing a Winteriron story for last year's Marvel Trumps Hate. It's a canon-divergent AU set in 1966 where I've smashed together the actual events of Avengers and Tales of Suspense at that time with the events of Winter Soldier: The Bitter March, a 2014 miniseries in which the Winter Soldier gets his memory back on a 1966 mission and nearly gets away from his handlers. So it's an AU where he does get away, makes it to the States, and would like to defect to the West and join the Avengers (at the time, the Kooky Quartet). It's very Cold War.
So it's Bucky/Tony, featuring double identity porn, because Bucky has Done Some Bad Things and thinks it would be better if everyone thought he was dead, so he just walks around masked, as the Winter Soldier. No one knows who he really is. And of course no one knows Tony is Iron Man. And definitely no one is going to find out either of those things ever. Of course not.
Highlights of my WIP so far include: Tony repainting the star on Bucky's arm as a bonding experience, a party in which the Winter Soldier gets to meet Rick Jones and no one has any idea why the Winter Soldier is so very weird about this guy, and Steve in the background of this story quietly having a nervous breakdown because he's pretty sure the Winter Soldier is Bucky and he's also pretty sure Bucky is dead so he thinks he must be going insane. Also I think I gave all the best lines in this story to Clint.
Because I have no chill, it is currently 60,000 words and I am almost to the beginning of the identity reveals and Terrible Secrets. I thought I was going to finish it this month but that clearly isn't happening. But soon! Hopefully next month!
(Note to MCU fans: In 616, the Winter Soldier did not kill Tony's parents. Bucky has been forced to do a lot of things that he would prefer that no one else ever find out, but that's not one of the things he did. That's not where this is going. He has a different Terrible Secret.)

Crazy how i went from hating stevetony and having winteriron as like. My otp I Guess, when i had my first marvel phase years ago, to now having stevetony have won that spot from winteriron lmao. Just in terms of it being a ship not in their character dynamic. Like this is just my personal feelings about it i respect em both etc . Just to me (i guess i also feel this bc im projecting somewhat) i just prefer tony and bucky to be friends, but i think tony and buckys dynamic, no matter what relationship they're in, is so so interesting and still genuinely rivals steve and tonys dynamic for making me insane, though I hadnt read anything for it in years until i read sinealas new fic. Just. Aaaaaauhgjhg. They live through similar/parallel traumatic events and come out of it with similar understandings of the world with different approaches to acting it out (that understanding being: i am worth the most to society as a weapon that atones for my past sins) (and their approaches being: i am going to right my wrongs from the background where nobody can get in my way or lay eyes on me vs im going to put myself on the line and be the one taking the blame in the spotlight hiding what good i may do behind a mask because its what i deserve) . And its very interesting I love reading it in any format i love them coming to understand each others feelings and realizing despite how they absolutely shouldnt relate to each other they very much do.
