He used my hat as a lil pouchy thing and it was SO CUTE.
I took him to the wildlife rehabilitation farm, this nice lady let me come in and see all the babies she has.
When she was checking on the lil guy he pooped and she said "I literally scared the shit out of you, sorry kid" it was funny.
She had these itty bitty baby possums, apparently they are born the size of jelly beans and stay on mama's teat for a couple months.
She told me about how these other city folk had found a mama that had been hit by a car and they had to really detach the babies from the teats to bring them to her. The teats going all the way to the baby tummies so they really had to tug.
The itty babies she was feeding with the feeding tube are those babies!
She had more baby possums, squirrels, bunnies, chickens, a skunk, baby birds, a turtle, a snake and a VERY VOCAL baby raccoon!
She said she posts updates on each one on facebook, he would have been in the enclosure with the other male possums his age, but he does have a hurt leg so he got his own little kennel. Because of the hurt foot she is keeping him otherwise he'd be safe to be on his own.
Some things I learned!
Baby possums 8 inches or longer are safe to be on their own in the wild, by that time they're about 3 months old.
Smaller than that is where you would want to call a wildlife rehabber and see what you need to do.
If you find a dead mama and check/find babies in the pouch you really have to pull them off the teats, it wont hurt them or mama.
And Possums have 13 babies or more but only have 11 teats. They have a high mortality rate so they have lots of babies.
I would have stayed longer to learn more but my dog was in the car chilling. That's her drinking some water!
