Pessimism excused as realism
When you label someone as a pessimist they always feel the need to say “I am a realist”.
People say “I’m a realist” as if their pessimism is actually just recognizing the truth that the world is just shit. Optimism and pessimism are separate from realism.
Realism is viewing the facts as they are. Good and bad things happen. Our world is a balance of opposing forces. Whether you’re a pessimist or an optimist has to do with the outcomes that you expect in a given situation. And I’m tired of people excusing pessimism as realism.
Horrible, awful, inhumane things happen every day. That most people are ignorant to. Most of these things are impossible to know about, excel for the big ones. War. Torture. Rape. Corruption. Murder. Betrayal. Cruelty. We would all be ignorant not to accept and acknowledge those facts. But realism involves recognizing the existence of both positive and negative aspects of life and acknowledging the dynamic nature of our world.
Every day amazing and beautiful human experiences take place in the world. The warmth of friendship, the depth of love, the power of people coming together to cause change. Someone finally feeling happy. Someone finally feeling safe. Sacred things like music and art. The natural beauty of the world. Learning, growth, improvement, progress. Kindness.
Yet these positive aspects are overlooked and overshadowed by our fixation on negativity. We minimize the significance of these moments. Cruelty stems from a lack of love, from damage, and from pain. Often, those events are not someone’s fault. That’s why I think that the good in life is more significant than the bad. Everyone has experienced pain. Everyone has experienced things that could have driven them to negativity or cruelty or corruption. But people choose to grow from pain and embrace positivity and love, which is not easy. Being good is the harder choice.
Maybe the world is against us. Maybe there are systems set in place that are not in everyone’s favor and there are people in control with bad intentions. I think that some of those things can be viewed as objective facts. The world is not fair. But we have to be intentional with how we choose to view and discuss the world.
Viewing the world as irredeemably negative might limit our ability to contribute to our improvement. It might lead to a sense of powerlessness and apathy. Hope in itself can be a driving force for positive change, motivating people to actively engage in creating a better world. Hope is not synonymous with ignorance. Hope is a conscious choice to recognize the full spectrum of human experiences.
We don’t have a choice but to feel hope. We have to be realistic. But it is our duty to stay good and to recognize the good and opportunities in the world. There are people in horrible conditions, who have experienced much more pain than I have, that still feel hope. As someone who is very privileged I feel responsible to embrace hope, share it, and make a meaningful impact with the life that I’ve been given.
Individual actions can be transformative. Human beings have always had the potential for positive growth and impact, in the face of adversity and all odds against us. Do not lead your life ignorant, that is not acceptable. Being aware is such a hard choice. Being good is even harder. Remaining positive is the hardest choice. But it is our responsibility. Harness resilience, contribute to positive change, help to shape a world that reflects the beauty and potential for good that exists alongside the challenges. Our ability to aspire towards goodness, to help others, and to remain hopeful and positive, despite the complexities of life, despite pain and suffering, is what makes us human. Be a human being.

What you believe in affects the life you create and live on this earth. Are you aware of your beliefs ? Are your beliefs beneficial for you ? You need to look at what you believe in. Because your core beliefs are like a pair of glasses you put on to see the reality. The colour of your glasses impact the perception and creation of your reality. If you believe in what's beneficial for you, then you are more likely to do things which will lead you on to that path rather than if you believe in the opposite to be true for you. Our living and doing affect our habits. Our habits affect our lifestyle. Ultimately our lifestyle impacts the quality of destiny we create for ourselves. If you live in an environment where it's a general belief that you can create a life you want, it will be easier for you to create such a life for yourself. So choose good environment for yourself. If you currently don't have one, shift to an environment where you can do what you want to do in life. If it's actually means a physical move, yes, that too. Dear friend, do what is good for you. You are not who you think you are… You are not your thoughts. You are not your feelings. You are not who your parents/society/school/friends say you are. You are not your job. You are not your income. You are not your car ( even though some of you literally have a picture of a car as your profile picture. Are you a car? Or are you a transformer? I’d be a transformer. A deceptacon, they wear all black for sur- anyways.) You are not even your own name. The above mentioned are all part of your ego or self-importance. So who are you really ? You are the consciousness that observes all of this. For example: Say you’re on the freeway and someone cuts you off. You get angry and say “F***k you man why did you cut me off”! That’s the ego reacting to the event with anger. This isn’t you. If the same event took place but instead you were to say “I am feeling angry right now”, that is who you are. You are the consciousness/awareness observing the feeling of anger. Best part is, you the observer, can watch all of this and choose to change it to anything that can better serve you via the beautiful power that makes us different from any other species: The power of freewill. No personality is permanent and you can change who you are as you please no matter how long you’ve been a certain way. I’ll talk about exactly how to do this in a later post. Nothing is stationary, nothing is permanent. The only constant is change. You are this consciousness experiencing this amazing process of becoming. Make sure you stop and enjoy this process because you will never finish. Let me say that again, you will never finish this process of becoming. Now that you’re aware, observe away my friend. However, these perceptions are for learning, not for basing our lives on.

It takes time to build a habit. Science says it takes 84 days, that is nearly 3 months to properly integrate a new habit into our daily lives. Give yourself that permission to build an effective habit. Please don't be hard on yourself. You have already taken the big step towards positive change. That in itself is a big act. It takes a big energetic change to move into a new direction. So be proud of yourself. Love yourself in this journey of new habit building. Be in an aligned environment where it's easier to maintain the new habit. Example; If you want to learn a new language, mix with those people who are already learning that language, native speakers even if online where you can converse with them in that language, join a club where the language speakers and learners come together to interact, grow from each other's experience. Above all maintain the mindset that you can do what you put your energy into. Once you stabilise yourself in a new method of living, the habit will instill within you.
