avengers x teen!reader headcanons
The Avengers are definitely reluctant to add another teenager to the team. Having Peter is great but has been a big adjustment, as they had to train him and protect him, less they face the wrath of Aunt May.
However, you were a compelling case, with your extensive abilities. You didn’t have many other options as to where to go and you hit it off with Peter right off the bat, working very well together as a pair. So, they took you in.
Tony worked with you on designs for your suit, Natasha and Steve trained you in combat (which meant you were going on morning runs with Steve and Sam. How fun . . . Though Sam could be convinced to give you piggy back rides, and you became Clint’s personal arrow-picker-upper. If you had powers, Wanda would definitely help you manage them.
Peter was naturally in tune to science, which meant you hung around the lab with him and Bruce a lot. It became a nice time to get your homework done, as Bruce would definitely help you with that. Sometimes you acted as Bruce’s and Peter’s assistant with their experiments.
Bruce was also a very good listener and your go-to person to vent to about your life’s problems (when Peter wasn’t around).
One of the conditions to be on the team was that you didn’t lapse in schoolwork, so they were very on top of that and your grades. Tony even offered to go to parent-teacher meetings. Any one of them were ready to go to your teachers or principal if anything happened.
Natasha would routinely check in with you to make sure that you weren’t being bullied.
Pepper also became a motherly figure, as she cared very much about you and Peter. She’d offer you a Stark Industries internship.
Movie nights were chaotic, but absolutely the best. It was hard for anyone to agree, so the team had a system where they’d rotate who got to pick the meeting. Sam and Peter were also not allowed to make popcorn after many unfortunate incidents. Most of the time you fell asleep late into the night and one of the Avengers carried you to bed (they’d never admit this, but that also became an argument).
It was during a movie night when Peter realized he liked you romantically. You fell asleep during a movie, your head on his shoulder. Peter swore he never experienced something so precious before. He was adamant to keep your peace, glaring at anyone who dared to talk.
The team found your growing romance to be adorable and often teased the two of you about it. The only people who didn’t tease you were Bruce, Pepper, and Thor (because he didn’t really understand how to effectively tease).
If Flash messed with you, Peter was always on top of it. He’d always protect you.
Steve was also always making sure that you knew right from wrong. He’d give long speeches about how it wasn’t right to smoke, drink, do drugs, etc.
Then Thor gave you Asgardian alcohol once, not realizing how bad that was considering you’re both human and underage. That was a mess. Peter having to hold your hair back when you vomited and multiple Avengers escorting you to bed. Thor got an earful about it.
Clint was one of the ones who better understood you, seeing as he had experience with his own kids. He was always good at mediating and defusing the tension.
Laura also adored you, you were her favorite babysitter for the kids. Whenever they went on date night, they’d drop the kids off at the tower, and you would watch them (Peter would help when he wasn’t on patrol).
Patrolling with Peter was also very fun. More often than not he’d convince you to take a break, then swing you up on top of a roof to watch over the city and the sky.
On multiple occasions, KAREN would rat the two of you out to Tony, but he was never mad. He just wanted to know all about the “date”.
Prom was also very fun. Honestly, the whole team would want to come pick out outfits with you and Peter. They took many, many pictures on the night of. Peter also teared up when he saw you. He thought you were stunning.
Of course, you guys had a curfew, but it was alright. You and Peter had a fantastic night. All he wanted to do was dance and hold you.
You had Happy wrapped around your finger. You could really convince him to drive you anywhere you wanted to go.
You also managed to get an internship at the Sanctum Santorum, learning more about magic under Doctor Strange and Wong’s guidance. The Avengers weren’t particularly thrilled, as they were worried about you being hurt, but understood your want to explore.
You really wanted to see all the areas of being a hero. Clint taught you archery and Natasha taught you how to be a spy. You’d listen to Natasha and Clint’s spy stories for hours. Peter would have to pry you away.
Peter always insisted on having date nights and would go all out, making every date special. He’d do anything to make you happy.
And so would all the Avengers. They loved seeing you smile, it brightened up their whole world and made the team stronger.

Accidentally in Love (Chapter 3)
Tumblr media
Pairing: Steve Rogers x Bucky Barnes x FemaleOC
Warnings: Potentially lethal levels of fluffiness right now, potential for smut later. A little blood, canon levels of violence potentially. Plus size female OC, body descriptions.
Rating: PG-13 (right now for language, but look for this to change)
WC: 1800-ish.
Summary:
Echo's living a normal life in NYC, a 911 dispatcher, the most excitement she gets is from the calls she takes. And then love comes crashing in one day when she's riding her bike through Central Park.
Steve and Bucky weren't looking for anything on their daily run around the park besides fresh air and exercise. The streak of purple eye candy on a bike that lapped them pretty regularly was a nice addition but not mandatory, at least until some impromptu roughhousing results in some civilian casualties in the form of the most beautiful woman either of them had seen in a long, long time.
A/N: AU, Post CACW, Bucky’s Chill and we have always lived in the Tower. Just call this a throwback to the found family, everyone lives in Stark Tower fics.
This is supposed to be a super-fluffy love story. Still undecided if I'm gonna keep this one going but posting now for giggles and grins. It's got some CSI:NY characters crossing over because why not.
I'm just messing about and playing in my WIPs folder. Not Beta'd: we die like men! (honestly, I tried but if you catch something I missed, let me know)
Chapter 3
One Week Later
“Is he hot in person?”
“Who?” Echo slipped her lunch into the breakroom fridge and pulled out the two cold bottles of caffeinated water she’d left in there the previous night. Late afternoon as it slipped into evening was always a busy time and she needed the fortification.
“Spongebob Squarepants,” Kalenda, her work bestie, scoffed as she crossed her arms with an impatient frown. The curvy brunette was Echo’s age, about two inches shorter but making up for it with feistiness. “Who do you think? Bucky freaking Barnes! Christ, it’s like you don’t even know me at all.”
“Lord…” she rolled her eyes as she held the door to the break room open for her friend to pass in front of her on their way into the main center. “Yes. Yes, he is just as beautiful in person, and he and Captain Rogers together are, in fact, as kind and stupidly hot as advertised.” After the visit at the hospital where they’d returned her replaced or repaired belongings—including her bike—Echo had traded numbers with Steve and Bucky, and the guys had texted her a few times in the intervening days to check on her and chatting a little, but it felt weird reaching out to contact them just because. It wasn’t like they were friends or anything.
Not that she wouldn’t have minded being their friend, or… well, or. They were gorgeous, sweet, funny so far as she could tell, and of course heroic and selfless as hell. The way they smiled at her made her knees weak and her pussy may never recover. What’s not to like? But who was she kidding, really. They were the objects of desire for over half the planet, she guessed, and she was a dispatcher for the NYPD. In no way were those worlds truly related, outside of the most superficial ways, much less were compatible.
“The hair and those eyes, I’d get so fucking lost in them you’d never find me again. And all those muscles,” she sighed lustily. “Fuck me, that’s before we even talk about that metal arm,” Kalenda carried on, now in full swoon as they made their way out to their stations. “Gods, the things I would let him do to me…”
Echo snorted at her friend’s obvious heart-eyes in regards to the Winter Soldier. She didn’t blame her at all, but still, their coworkers didn’t need to be privy to their depraved bestie conversations. That’s what the chat was for. “Annnnnnd that is how we end up back at the supervisor’s office for inappropriate work conversations.”
Kalenda scoffed, waving off her concern with a dismissive hand-wave. “Oh, like you’ve never said anything filthy.” Her wicked grin should have been the warning. “Something something ‘star-spangled cock could split you open any time he wanted’? Something something ‘break him down to the frame’... any of that sound familiar?”
Her leering green gaze as she slipped on her headset made Echo giggle even as heat rushed to her cheeks. “You could shut up any time now.”
The laughter was shortlived, though, as they settled into their workday. Having a headset on meant that it was time to serve the citizens of NYC and the officers of NYPD to the best of their abilities. They were one of, if not the, largest comm center in the country and Echo was proud of the work she did, contributing to the safety of her town.
It was easy to get lost in the work, one call at a time, one radio run at a time. Her focus, scattered as it could be at any other time, easily fell into the rhythm of call and response, action and reaction, hours slipping by unnoticed.
Voices behind her and down at the end of her row drew her attention, their familiarity abruptly yanking her out of the zone.
One pair of eyes zeroed in on her immediately. “Well, if it isn’t the crash test dummy.”
Boisterously loud for the locale, Tony Stark was the walking definition of ‘all eyes on me’. He may have been in a crazy expensive suit and tie, looking all prim and proper and what have you, but the curve of his lips promised the most interesting kinds of mischief.
Echo swallowed hard as she made herself unavailable for calls, her eyes quickly darting left and right to the unabashed gawking of her coworkers. Oh, they were still busy as hell, but the nosy bastards were never above a good spectacle. “Mr. Stark.”
“Did the phone meet your standards?” he demanded with a smirk that seemed a little too knowing. He stopped behind her chair, spinning her around to face him.
She nodded hesitantly. “It did, thank you. I mailed you a thank you note. Did you not get it?”
Yes, it had been an old school touch, but sending him an email seemed a little impersonal, especially since he’d gone to the trouble of transferring all her stuff over in addition to giving her a top of the line bit of tech. And it wasn’t like she could just show up on his doorstep with a casserole.
He snorted, his billion dollar smile on full display as his eyes crinkled at the edges. “I did, but then, I expected nothing less considering you hang out with the geriatric set.”
She was about to ask what he meant when another voice cut her off. “Tony, Jesus, man. Quiet down, people are working here—oh, hey Echo.”
She sincerely hoped the whimpering squeak as she spun quickly to face him she heard was just in her head, though Kalenda’s snort behind her indicated no such luck. “Hi. James. I-I mean Bucky. Um…” her eyes met her bestie’s just behind him for some help, but only found the kind of mocking encouragement born from years of friendship. “Nice to see you. Here. At my job.”
“Um yeah, about that…” The brunet smoothed his long bangs back out of his face behind his ears and grinned bashfully as he rubbed the back of his neck. Under other circumstances, she and Kalenda would be ogling him for the way the seams of his deep blue henley were barely clinging to life across his shoulders and around his massive arms and the skinny jeans that were all but wrecking her concentration. “Cap and Tony had a meeting at 1PP and Stevie wanted me to tag along.”
“I’m glad he did.” The way her compliment made his cheeks flush felt like winning an award, even if the normal filter she kept up at work slipped a bit.
“Me too.” The tiny shy grin that danced at the corners of his lips was killing her slowly, even as the somewhat awkward silence stretched out between them.
Kalenda’s obvious throat-clearing seemed to startle her back into herself, reminding her acutely of both their location and their audience.
“Well, it’s always good to see you.” The platitude was automatic, off her tongue and into the space between them before she even thought about it, her nerves robbing her mind of anything but decent manners. Good gods, she was never gonna live this down.
“You look good.” His eyes widened a moment later as he flushed bright red, clearly that hadn’t been what he’d meant to come out of his mouth. “I mean, that is… you look better than when I saw you last time.”
“Hard not to,” she conceded, her mind bordering on hysterical the longer this conversation went on. It felt like the whole world was watching this junior-high level farce and she was stumbling through it, quite badly.
“Well, on the upside, you’re wearing more clothes this time,” Tony interjected oh-so-helpfully, looking like he was avidly watching the best telenovela ever and doing nothing to quell the likely overheating rumor mill that had just kicked into gear around them. “And there’s less blood.”
“Alright, thank you, Mr. Stark,” Shelly, the floor supervisor’s breathlessly cheerful voice sounded like she’d rather eat broken glass than let that conversation continue as she rushed across the room to join them. “Echo, Mr. Stark, Sergeant Barnes, and Captain Rogers—”
“Hello, Echo.”
She was almost afraid to look, though Kalenda’s dreamy sigh left her no other choice. Sure enough, the gods of horniness were testing her and pretty much every woman in the five boroughs with these three Avengers out together. In a black t-shirt under a green button-down and jeans that gave her the most impure thoughts possible about his thighs, the blond Avenger with the pink cheeks grinned at her warmly from his spot behind Tony. The fact her panties didn’t burst into flames right there was a miracle of modern physics.
“Hey Steve.”
“As I was saying,” her supervisor huffed, bringing all of the attention back to her, “they’re here to tour the center, so we should really be on our way.”
Sounded reasonable to her, so long as they were there, Echo doubted there’d be much work done anyway. “Alright then.” Echo turned back to her console to take stock of her district. “It was good to see you. Be safe out there.”
“Before we go though…” Buck’s half-grin as he met her eye over her shoulder warmed her to her toes. “You out of here soon?”
“A few hours. Why?”
“Wanna meet up for a late dinner?”
His hopeful expression tugged at her heart. It was the kind of thing that made her want to give him the world, even if she didn’t know him like that. “It’ll be after ten,” she hedged, perched on the fence between really wanting to spend time with them because who wouldn’t, really, and knowing that she’s no one special and didn’t have any business tagging along with them.
“Then we’ll leave a light on for ya,” Steve replied cheerfully as he and Bucky were led further into the center and away from her desk. “See you tonight.”
“Always a pleasure, Crash,” Tony called, following behind him.
Echo sat blinking at her console as she watched the group retreat, only spurred to action when she caught Steve’s eye as he winked at her before leaving the room.
“What just happened?” she asked the Universe at large as she typed in the login code for her phone from muscle memory.
“Looks to me,” Kalenda replied lightly dropping off a new bottle of caffeinated water, “like you have a date after work.”
“Huh.” The very idea was mindblowing. Quickly, her mind was shaken from its haze by a bank robbery that required both her and Kalenda’s attention for quite a while.
“And had the nerve not to introduce me.”

Looking Out For My Sister- Clint Barton sister!xreader comfort fic feat. Steve Rogers and Natasha Romanoff
Tumblr media
Summary: Clint comforting Y/N during a rough time
Warnings: fluff, angst, comfort fluff, mentions of mental health struggles a bit if you squint
~Y/N’s Pov~
It was a slow week at the compound and I decided to rest in my room for a little while and as I went to lay in bed I saw Clint outside shooting his arrows doing target practice and as I watched him my mind wandered and I fell asleep on my bed. A few hours later I felt a hand rub my back and I opened my eyes and I saw Clint smiling at me and I tried to cover my face with the blanket and Clint chuckled while rubbing my back gently and said “hey Y/N sweetheart you missed dinner, you doing ok? You’ve been pretty quiet lately.. I’m worried hun.”
I listened to what Clint said and my eyes filled with tears and I cried softly and Clint came to lay beside me and I felt him stroke my hair and he held me close. “I’m having a rough week Clint.. I don’t know how to explain it..” Clint kissed my forehead gently and said “hey it’s ok Y/N everyone has moments like that but you don’t have have to go through it alone alright? But you do need to eat something, so how about I go warm you up some dinner and we can watch your favorite movie since we don’t have any missions today, deal?” I smiled and I nodded my head “That sounds good Clint thank you.” Clint got up and went to the kitchen to go make food and I set up a movie for us to watch and then I got back in my bed to lay down. My thoughts started to become overwhelming and I grabbed my phone to put on some ambience music and I felt relaxed and I closed my eyes just a bit to rest.
A few minutes later while I was waiting for Clint to come back my mind started to wander again and I tried to listen to my favorite song but even that made me cry and I felt so stupid for crying, “I hope Clint will be back soon..” I said to myself as I tried to calm down a bit.
Natasha heard me crying and she came in the room and sat on the edge of my bed and said “hey baby girl you ok?.. I heard you crying and I got worried, what’s bothering you?” I shrugged and said “just feeling pretty overwhelmed..” I saw Nat come sit by me and I hugged her tight and as soon as she comforted me I felt more relaxed. Nat said “hey I gotta go help tony with something will you be ok Y/N?” I nodded my head and said “yea I’ll be alright thanks for coming to checking on me Nat love ya sis.” She smiled back at me before leaving and said “love you too little chick.”
~Clint’s POV~
I was in the kitchen warming up Y/N some of the dinner and I made her favorite dessert I know she loves and after I finished putting that together I started heading back to her room and on my way back I saw Steve Rogers walk by and I nodded and said “hey cap.” Steve nodded and said “hey Clint, I haven’t seen Y/N at training the last day or so is she ok?” I sighed and said “yea she’s just going through a rough time but she’s ok cap I’ve got things handled I’ll let you know how things go.” We shook hands and then I got to Y/N’s room and I set down her food on the table and I kneeled down by her side of the bed and saw she was sleeping again and I caressed her hair gently and I smiled at her and whispered to her “hey my little hawk.. wake up, I’ve got your dinner here for you.” She opened her eyes and looked at the food and she stretched a bit and sat up. “Hey Clint.. sorry I was sleepy again..” she said softly and I kissed her head and said “hey it’s ok you needed it, how are you feeling now?” She smiled and shrugged “I’m ok though I’m pretty hungry oh and I set up a movie for us to watch if you still want to watch it tonight?” I got excited and handed her the food and said “yea of course Y/N! Which movie is it?” I helped Y/N to get comfy by me while she ate and I waited for her to tell me which movie she picked. I saw Y/N grab a dvd box and she said “Lilo and Stitch if that’s ok? Disney movies cheer me up.” I rubbed her back gently and I smiled at her and said “hey I love Disney movies, that’s a good one to watch I’ll get it started while you eat ok?” I pushed play on the movie and I cuddled up next to Y/N as I watched over her and I noticed she finished eating and halfway into the movie I saw she fell asleep on my shoulder and I put my arm around her protectively letting her rest and I smiled knowing she was feeling relaxed and I whispered to her “goodnight kid sweet dreams.”
Hey lovelies!! I hope you like this comfort fic xx♥️🤗 I’m back!!

Steve Rogers x Reader: Peter's Admissions Consultant
Warnings: Cheating and maybe some language.
To say the Avenger's Tower was huge would be an understatement. The first time (y/n) ever stepped foot into the building, she somehow found herself taking an elevator ride upstairs instead of down. She managed to catch a glimpse of a shirtless and sweaty Sam Wilson coming out of the training room.
The young woman felt her heartbeat rapidly increase at the sight of the handsome man as she took a couple of steps backward. As she tiptoed away hoping that he didn't see her, she bumped into another shirtless body. Spinning around and looking up, she found herself face-to-face with Steve Rogers. The First Avenger.
“Hey, are you looking for someone?” Steve gently smiled down at her. He knew that the tower was big and it wasn’t out of the ordinary for someone to get lost. However, most of the time they didn’t make it all the way up to the training room. She must have been walking around a lot if she got up here.
He started to wonder if this was one of the girls that Bucky brought home. Bucky was known for going out late at night and bringing home very pretty women. The girl that was standing in front of Steve was no exception.
He had always been jealous of the way that Bucky had always been able to pick up women without a second thought. It was just who he was.
“I’m looking for Peter Parker. This is the address he gave me, but I didn’t know that he actually lived here at the Avenger Tower.” (y/n) smiled at the ground. She was doing absolutely everything to keep her gaze on anything else but him. The last thing she wanted was for Steve to catch her staring at his perfectly sculpted abs.
Steve tilted his head to the side wondering how she really knew about Peter's life, but that really wasn’t any of his business. He wasn’t sure how much she knew about Peter’s personal life so she decided to play it safe.
“He doesn’t live here. He lives with his aunt in Queens.” Steve promptly responded without missing a beat. “He just works here. I’m sure he’s down in the lab. I could take you down there if you’d like?”
“Oh no. I don’t mean to bother you. I'm sure I can find it on my own.” (y/n) immediately shook her head. The last thing she wanted was to throw off the morning routine of a super soldier. He might have been leaving to save the world at that very moment before she bumped into him.
There was no way she was going to be able to find the lab if she hadn't already found it by now.
Steve chuckled at how cute she was. Most woman loved attention from him, but it seemed like she shied away from his attention.
“It’s no bother at all. I need to speak to Tony anyway and I’m sure he’s down in that lab with the kid. Give me a minute to grab a shirt and I’ll walk you down there.” Stever wasn’t going to take no for an answer.
She nodded and patiently waited for him in the hallway as he walked a couple of rooms down to the laundry room to grab something to throw on. After changing, he gently ushered (y/n) toward the elevator and the two of them rode it down a couple of floors in complete silence. He had so many questions that he wanted to ask, but he decided to keep them to himself.
The two of them found Tony and Peter in the lab busy with whatever they were working on at the moment. Lately, Peter had been improving the mixture that was used to create his webs. It was going pretty well and he was happy with the progress he had made over the past coupe of days.
“Hey Peter. Hey Mr. Tony.” (y/n) happily chirped and Steve could tell that she relaxed greatly by the sound of her heart rate slowing down. That told him that the two of them were pretty close on some level. “This place is huge. I got lost looking for you.”
“Sorry about that.” Peter offered an apologetic smile. “You could have texted me.”
“I did. And called. Multiple times.” (y/n) responded. It didn’t seem like she was too upset by Peter not responding to her.
“You sure did.” Peter pulled out his phone and looked down at it to see multiple messages and texts from her. “I’m sorry about that (y/n). I got too wrapped up in my work.”
“You don’t have to apologize. Mr. Rogers helped me find you down here. What are you working on?” She asked, walking toward him and gesturing toward all the little nuts and bolts surrounding him.  Now Steve’s interest has peaked. He wanted to know if (y/n) really knew who Peter was.
“I’m just working on the mixture that I use to make my webs. One broke last week and I fell off a 200-story skyscraper. I figured I needed some upgrades.” Peter responded as if it was no big deal and (y/n) nodded as if it was something they talked about pretty often. So they were closer than he thought.
“Since you’re here, I guess that means I’m taking a work break. See you in a little bit Mr. Stark.” Peter said before getting out of his seat and leading (y/n) toward the library.
“Is that his girlfriend?” Steve turned and asked Tony who had been working on some upgrades for the Tower’s security system.
“Who?” Tony glanced up at him for a split second before looking back down at what he was doing. “I didn’t know he had a girlfriend.”
“The girl that was just in here. Is that Parker’s girlfriend?”
“You can’t be serious.” Tony deeply chucked. “There’s no way a woman like that would date Parker. He’s practically a child.”
“So what are they doing together?” Maybe he needed to take a page out of Clint’s book and hide out in the vents for a little while to see what was going on in the Tower.
“Oh. I think I understand now.” Tony sat down his tools and leaned back in his seat. He was smirking at Steve and he did not like that one bit.
“What do you understand?” Steve nervously rocked back and forth on his heels. This was not the type of conversation he wanted to be having with Tony. The two of them were not close enough to talk about women this way.
“You’ve got a thing for Peter’s admissions consultant,” Tony smirked. He had never seen Steve interested in a woman before and this had caught his attention. “Too bad, she has a boyfriend.”
“I wasn’t interested in her love life.” Steve scoffed hoping that his face wasn’t as red as it felt.
“Sure you weren’t. Then why all the questions?”
“I just thought it was weird that someone was walking around the tower and I didn’t know who it was.”
“There was no reason for you to know. I knew she was coming and that’s enough. I run this ship Capsicle. Let’s not forget that.”
“Yeah yeah Tony.” Steve dismissively waved his hand at Tony before trudging out of the room. “You won’t let anyone forget that.”
He found his way to the training room for the second time that day. It was because he knew that is where Natasha would be. She was one of the few people in the tower he didn’t feel weird about asking things like this.
Sure, he thought (y/n) was cute and maybe he would like to get to know her better, but he had to find some sort of common ground first. It had been so long since he had spoken to a woman in a romantic way.
After being around (y/n) for the next couple of months, there was something about the way that (y/n) interacted with not just Peter, but the entire team that made his heart flutter. She treated the entire team as if they were normal people and not like they were the Avengers. It was hard for them to have friends outside of the compound who didn’t treat them as if they were placed on a pedestal.
Steve could tell that (y/n) really wanted Peter to achieve his goals. He dreamed of attending one of the best universities in New York and (y/n) was doing everything in her power to make that happen.
The two of them had been working on his resume, practicing his interview skills, and writing admissions essays. (y/n) wasn’t cheap at all and Tony heard she was the best so he didn’t mind paying for her at all. As long as Peter was happy.
Over the course of Peter’s senior year, (y/n) had come over at least three times a week. And every time that she was going to be over, Steve made his schedule empty. He wasn’t sure how to describe his feelings, but Natasha smirked and said that maybe he liked her. And maybe Natasha was right. He would not admit that out loud. Especially when the word of the street was that (y/n) had a boyfriend. A very well-known boyfriend who was currently running for mayor.
However, Steve had heard absolutely nothing about the extent of their relationship. So, he decided to ask Peter. Out of everyone in this house, he would be the last person to judge him and at least answer his questions honestly.
He fixed him a glass of cold milk with chocolate chip cookies and found him sitting alone in one of the common areas playing a video game. Steve was surprised that he wasn’t down in the lab with Tony.
“Hey, Peter.” He softly spoke not to startle the kid and sat the snack down beside him. “How is everything with college going? I figured you had been working hard so I brought you a little treat.”
“Thank you and everything is going great Mr. Rogers. All thanks to (y/n). She’s the best.” He replied. “My application and essays were good enough that they’re inviting me back for an interview next month. So we're going to be having a lot of interview practice these next couple of weeks.”
This was exactly the state that Steve wanted Peter in. He was coherent enough to answer Steve's questions, but too engrossed in his video game to really care or remember what exactly Steve was asking him.
“That’s great Peter.” He truly was happy for the kid. After everything he had gone through, he deserved the world. “So I take it that (y/n) is working wonders.”
“Yeah. We were supposed to have a secession tonight, but she said that I deserved a break. Which could be true. Maybe she needs a break too. She’s been over her almost every day for the past three weeks. I think something else has been going on though.”
“Mmhhh.” Steve raised an eyebrow and leaned back into the couch. This was going to be a good conversation. “What’s been going on?”
“Sometimes I can tell she’s been crying. Like she’ll show up and my senses can tell that she cried before arriving. Or when our session is almost over, it seems like she’s trying to hold back tears.”
“What do you think she’s crying about?”
“Her boyfriend. From what I’ve picked up, he’s not very nice to her.”
“Not nice in what way?”
“He always cancels their dates and says that he has to stay at the office late, but he goes and sees other women. I think she has an idea that he isn’t faithful, but she doesn’t want to admit it.”
“How did you find this out?”
“I know he cheats on her. I saw that with my own eyes, but every now and then she’ll leave her phone on the table while she goes to the bathroom and I’ve seen the messages she sends to her friends. They all want her to leave him, but she won’t do it.”
“You saw him?” Steve was fully invested in this conversation now.
“Yeah. I shouldn’t have done it. It wasn’t my place, but I couldn’t help myself. I needed to know. I went to the office and the bastard didn’t lie about being there, but he wasn’t alone.” Peter shuddered at the thought. (y/n) was such a genuine soul and deserved so much more.
“Have you told her?”
“No. Do you think I should? I didn’t think it was my place and then she would know that I was snooping around in her personal life.”
“I wouldn’t say anything about it Pete.” Steve didn’t want him to say anything because he was going to handle this his own way.
“She’s amazing at what she does and I would hate to lose the progress that we’ve made because I couldn’t mind my business. I can’t imagine doing what I’m doing with someone else.”
“I completely understand that.” Steve nodded, taking in everything that had heard.
The next week, (y/n) quickly walked into the tower trying to keep her head down and keep from sniffling too loudly. It was hard to hide things from a bunch of superheroes when they all had super senses. She plopped down at their usual table and began pulling out her notes. The days were dwindling down and soon Peter wouldn’t need her anymore. She was really going to miss everyone.
“Hey (y/n), is everything alright?” Steve walked into the kitchen as if he had no idea that (y/n) wasn’t going to be there. He had more or less memorized their studying schedule. However, he knew that (y/n) wasn’t going to find Peter.
“Yeah. Everything is fine.” She whispered surprised that she had let it go this far. She couldn’t stop the tears, but today was hard. It had been one of her hardest days in a while. Today it was confirmed that her longtime boyfriend had been cheating on her for the majority of the time that they had been together. And she happened to find out in a very public way. “Is Peter okay?”
“He's sick. I figured he would have told you before you came all the way over here.”
“It’s totally fine. If he isn’t feeling well, I’m sure that he hasn’t been on his phone much today. I’ll text him and let him know that I stopped by.”
“I would have let you know, but I don’t have your number…” Steve trailed off hoping that (y/n) was picking up what he was putting down.
“Steve Rogers.” (y/n) giggled through her tears and finally looked up to meet his eyes. “Is this your attempt to ask for my number?”
“No. I was just saying that if anything comes up, I would be able to let you know.” He scratched the back of his neck, happy to see that (y/n) didn’t take offense to him basically asking for his number.
“Well, I have Peter’s number. And Tony’s. I believe I have Wanda’s as well.”
“I hate to point this out (y/n), but look where that got you.” Steve jokingly rolled his eyes. “None of them texted you and you’re here to help Peter, except there’s no Peter.”
“I don’t mind. I’m just trying to soak up as much time with everyone as I possibly can. I don’t know what I’m going to do when Pete no longer needs me.”
“You can always come by and visit. None of us are going to stop you. We all like having you around.”
“Thank you Steve. I really appreciate that.” (y/n) smiled up at him, but quickly looked back down at the ground. She always felt her heartbeat racing when Steve looked at her, but she tried to ignore that feeling because it always made her feel like she was cheating. She chuckled at the thought. How could she be cheating when he was doing who knows what in his office?
“What’s going on with you?” He gestured for her to take a seat so that the two of them could talk.
“I don’t want to dump everything on you, Steve.” She looked down at her hands picking with her nails.
“If you just need someone to rant to, I’m here. If you’re looking for advice, I’m here.” Steve offered. “Whatever you need (y/n), I’m here.”
(y/n) nodded and immediately began telling him everything that had been going on with her now ex boyfriend. When she left, Steve didn’t know what had come over him. The only thought he had right now was anger.
Blind rage.
***
He wanted Leo to be as hurt as (y/n) was right now. Or was his name Levi? Lee? Luke? It didn’t matter what the little fucker’s name was at this moment. All he knew was that he was going to be sorry he was even born.
Steve found himself walking down the streets of New York toward Luca’s home. He knew that walking around this late wasn’t safe, but he didn’t care. If anyone tried to stop him, he would put them in their place without even thinking twice about it. When he got to Luca’s home, he noticed that his car wasn’t sitting outside of his house.
Perfect.
These were not the types of actions that Steve was known for. Maybe this was something that Bucky would have done, but never Steve. In all honesty, Steve thought it felt good to go against what had been ingrained in him.
All he had ever known was being America’s Golden Boy, but now none of that mattered. He was doing something that would make him feel better.
Steve quietly sneaked into the house and made himself comfortable on the couch. It didn’t matter what time he came back. Steve was going to be sitting here waiting for him when he did.
***
She stormed into the tower knowing exactly where she was going. She wasn’t here for Peter today. FRIDAY was so used to her presence in the tower that she didn’t even alert Tony that she had arrived.
Walking into the common room, she found Peter sitting about five feet away from the tv playing a video game with Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes.
“Where is he?” She growled knowing that he couldn’t be far from his two best friends.
“Hey (y/n),” Peter paused the game and slowly turned around to face her. “I didn’t realize that we had a meeting today. I double-checked the schedule, but maybe I’m wrong.”
“We don’t have a meeting today Pete.” (y/n) smiled gently at him, but her face hardened when she saw a figure behind them. The three boys turned to see Steve standing there with a pleased look on his face.
“I’ve never seen her angry before,” Sam whispered to Bucky. “I wonder what he did.”
“I don’t want to find out.” Bucky quietly whispered back. He went through almost every conversation he had with Steve in the past week trying to remember if he had let anything slip about what was going on.
“I didn’t ask you to do that Steve.” She was so angry that she couldn’t even see straight. But she didn’t know if she was angry because of what Steve had done or if she was angry because of what she had put up with for the past couple of months.
“You didn’t have to ask me (y/n). I would’ve done it no matter what.”
“Would you have done it if I had begged you not to do anything?” (y/n) started pacing. She didn’t know what to do. There was no way that anyone would be able to tie it back to them, but still. This wasn't the way that things got handled.
“More than likely.” Steve shrugged as if it was no big deal.
“What did you do?” Bucky turned to look at his best friend in horror.
“I mean it wasn’t that bad. I just-”
“Stop.” (y/n) sternly said placing her hands over her ears. “I don’t want to know anything.”
“I want to know everything.” Sam paused the game and turned his attention toward the two of them.
“Look (y/n),” Peter turned to look at his advisor. “The guy isn’t dead. He may be a little rattled, but he’s going to think twice about cheating on the next girl that he’s with.”
“My sweet Peter.” (y/n) turned to look at him with tears in her eyes. “I can’t believe you agree with the way things went down. I didn’t think you were one for condoning violence.”
“I’m not one to condone cheating either,” Peter whispered trying not to meet her eyes. He hated seeing her upset. “I think I speak for all of us when I say that you are one of the most genuine people that we have ever met. I would do anything absolutely if you asked me. No questions asked. Especially if that person wronged you.”
“I completely agree. But, this sounds like a conversation that the three of you need to have alone.” Sam added on and left the room followed by Bucky and Peter.
“So what’d you do to him?” (y/n) asked sitting down on the couch beside Steve. She had calmed down a little bit and was now able to think clearly.
“I’m going to spare you the details, but I can promise you that he will be fine. He’s going with the story that it was a home break-in and I honestly think this is going to help him with the campaign.”
“What made you do it?” (y/n) questioned. She knew what she wanted him to say, but she wasn’t going to put words in his mouth.
“He upset you and I didn’t like that. It wasn’t even something that was thought out. The night after you told me he had been cheating on you, I went over there. He cried if that makes you feel any better.”
“I never saw him cry. Not once.” (y/n) said after a moment of thinking. She wouldn’t admit this out loud, but she was relieved. Even though being cheated on was a terrible feeling that she wouldn’t wish on anyone, maybe now Luca had learned his lesson.
“If I had known that I would have taken a picture for you.” Steve chuckled. “I’m sorry. I should have spoken to you first.”
“No. I’m glad you didn’t.” (y/n) quickly shook her head. Then without even having a second thought about it, she leaned over and placed a soft kiss on Steve’s cheek. “Thank you.”
“I hope you know that you deserve the world. You deserve nothing but good things and if anyone tells you otherwise, let me know. Some people are willing to give you everything and more if you go out looking for them.”
“I don’t think I want to do any more looking for a while.”
“Something tells me you won’t have to look very far.” Steve shyly mumbled back.
“And what do you mean by that Mr.Rogers?” (y/n) raised an eyebrow.
“All I’m saying is that if you’re interested, I would love to take you out on a date. No pressure at all. If you need time to think about it, that’s fine too.”
“Of course, I’d love to go out with you Steve.”

I think my favorite thing about the marvel/bucky Barnes fandom is that we've all collectively decided that bucky is a chronic masturbator, no matter the fic genre 💀

I just had a thought...
Bucky in Wakanda being super close to Shuri because he also has/had a younger sister so it's a familiar feeling even if Shuri does say things his poor old 100 year old brain just doesn't understand, he loves her anyway because she reminds him of Becca...

REALLY excited for the artwork attached to Chapter 5, "Something Borrowed", of Identity Within. I'd love to sit here and say it's the most excited I've been for chapter artwork in a while, but we ALL know that's a lie 😅 Still, whenever I get to work with a certain somebody for chapter artwork, I get all giddy and childish seeing my vision have some form of visionary life.

This final installment is gunna be the craziest rollercoaster in existence, y'all. Have your barf bags ready 🤣

The Chain, The Magic Circle, and Us
Tumblr media
Warnings: tooth-rotting fluff
Relationship: Stucky x reader (gender/appearance nonspecified)
Summary: You, Steve and Bucky share a hobby, and a learning curve.
A/N: Continuing in my supersoft supersoldiers theme, this is Stucky x reader fluff and I am wholly unashamed. Headcanon format
It started after a long, and frankly frightening mission. Casualties, both team and civilian, weighed heavily on Cap’s mind, even after he removed the uniform.
He came down to the common room after cleaning up to grab some snacks and noticed you on the couch watching tv.
You were both in the same place of wanting to be near people but still left alone, so when he sat down at the far edge of the sofa from you, you acknowledged him with brief eye contact and nothing else.
The movie on tv was JAWS, the original version. It was one of those movies that you could enjoy but not pay close attention to while your mind went through its decompression cycle.
On the couch next to you was your craft bag, the giant bag of yarn, crochet hooks, and whatnot that you carried with you on every mission to keep your hands busy on the flights. It helped manage your anxiety. It was something you could do that didn’t require you to look at it, necessarily, but the repetitive movements gave you focus so you could keep your mind sharp and free of the brain kinks that came with panic.
Your hands were going, making a seemingly infinite number of granny squares while vaguely watching the carnage unfold on a beach in a fictional New York town.
Steve found you infinitely more entertaining than the tv. Your quiet nature after missions was so at odds with your personality the rest of the time.
You were so loud, affectionate, ‘ebullient’ according to Jarvis. Unfailingly kind to everyone, relaxed and nonjudgmental, you had a warmth that just drew people to you.
And by people, he meant himself, and probably Bucky.
He says ‘probably’ because while they haven’t discussed that part of things, he knew his best friend was more than a little sweet on you. He could relate.
As he picked at his tasteless food, he watched you generate square after square from the yarn, the bright colors and style reminding him of a large, warm-looking blanket he’d seen in Wanda’s quarters.
“You wanna learn?”
Your gentle question brought his eyes to yours in shock. He wasn’t expecting interaction, but, to his surprise, he didn’t find it unwelcome.
“Sure, if you want.”
You patted the seat next to you and passed him a hook and ball of blue yarn.
Your teaching style was like you: laid back, relaxed, and gracious in the face of his many beginner’s mistakes. You took it all in stride, and when he finished his first square, lopsided and curled from inconsistent tension, you cheered him on and encouraged him to do it again.
So that was how it came to be that after missions, you’d seek each other out, sit on the couch in the common area, and quietly make granny squares while watching movies or listening to music.
He loved the nights with the music most of all.
Listening to you sing softly under your breath to whatever’s coming through the speakers brought his heart a deeply cherished joy.
You didn’t sing in public, he knew that from Tony’s numerous karaoke nights, so it made it more special that you shared that intimate piece of yourself with him.
The ritual moved from the common room to his and Bucky’s quarters, with Buck joining in from time to time. It was a sliver of peace and normal in a chaotic world for them.
You bonded over stories shared and movies enjoyed. Yarn and food consumed by the three of you together, you growing closer to both men over time.
The relationship… it had an air of inevitability around it, at least according to Sam and Tasha. Like you all found each other right when you were supposed to, and came together as you needed to.
You three think that it might have just been the yarn.
With his ever-growing pile of granny squares, you showed Stevie how to sew them together, starting him on a path to a blanket that would slowly fold in squares from both you and Bucky.
In the end, the blanket was large enough to accommodate all three of you on the couch, curled up together, happy.
And that was as it should be.

I forgot to take my morning pills yesterday, and didn’t know why I was so tired until I returned home.
That’s what I hate about light colored, painted walls and ceilings: it’s easier to spot creepy things crawling on them. I’m a little shaken up after last night. Either that big spider ate Tobey, or Tobey has gotten so big and broke our borderland treaty, that I may end up having to kill him soon.

Accidentally In Love (Chapter 2)
Tumblr media
Pairing: Steve Rogers x Bucky Barnes x FemaleOC
Warnings: Potentially lethal levels of fluffiness right now, potential for smut later. A little blood, canon levels of violence potentially. Plus size female OC, body descriptions.
Rating: PG-13 (right now for language, but look for this to change)
WC: 2600-ish.
(honestly, I tried but if you catch something I missed, let me know)
Chapter 2
Blinking, Echo arrived back on the current plain of consciousness in a very bright room that smelled vaguely of antiseptic and orange slices. Blinking, she groaned a little as she took in her varying pains that hadn’t been evident before, including the stiffness in the elbow where her IV was installed.
“There she is.”
She turned her head toward a voice she recognized very well. Lindsey Messer, Danny’s wife and her friend from the job and her building, sat at her bedside holding her hand. In her pants suit and fuschia blouse, wearing her work badge, it was clear the tiny blonde had come straight from the crime lab. “Hey Linds. I hope Danny didn’t make you worry. I’m fine. My head’s too hard for any lasting damage.”
The blonde snorted and slid a plastic cup with a straw in it over to her. “That’s what I told them.”
It was good to know her friend had her back. “What am I doing here?”
“They said you had a concussion and lost consciousness at the scene. Apparently you hit your head when you went into the stream by the bridge. Plus you got some stitches in your nose and chin and have a hairline fracture in your wrist.”
“Oh.” It was so much worse than she feared. Looking down at her wrist she saw the bandage and closed her eyes on a sigh. “Well, this sucks.”
“It does,” Lindsey agreed. “It seems you have some interesting friends, though.”
Echo sipped her cup of water as she mulled over the strange transition. “We have the same friends, Linds.” Working in law enforcement made for a large extended, and occasionally dysfunctional, family, and since they hung out together, the majority of the people in their lives were shared friends and acquaintances.
“Funny, because I don't remember you bringing those two superheroes you crashed into on the bike path today out for drinks with us.” She leaned back in the chair, looking nonchalant as she pulled a bottle of water from her purse to sip.
Superheroes? What? “What are you talking about?” Shifting to sit up further in bed, she found herself tired and reclining back on the pillows behind her. She had one thing she wanted to make clear, though. “And I didn't crash into anyone. I ditched out so I wouldn't crash into anyone.”
Lindsay smiled slyly. “You’re too nice, that’s why you crashed.”
Looking around to make sure there were no little ears to overhear she snarked at her friend, “Vaffanculo,” complete with the associated hand gesture.
Of course that's the moment when Danny decided to come into the room carrying a bottle of water and some white daisies he laid on the table next to her drink. “Ay, yo! You kiss your mother with that mouth?” he asked with his ever present grin. He’d clearly cleaned up and changed into one of his signature tight t-shirts and jeans. He made hipster chic look good with his wire-rim glasses and skinny jeans.
Rolling her eyes hurt but she did it anyway. “Whatever, Danny. When do I get outta here?”
The thin man winced and pushed his glasses up his nose. “Well, see that's the problem. Both the girls have ear infections, and they’re with my mom right now, but there's nobody to look after them for us, so we can look after you. And well unfortunately, between us and Flack, Donnie is going outta town with Trish for the weekend. So the docs wanna keep you overnight.”
“But…” she whined pitifully. The idea of spending the night alone in the hospital sounded as appealing as shaving her legs with a dull razor and lemonade shaving cream.
Lindsey’s lips twitched. “You know we have toddlers, right? We’re immune to such things,” she laughed.
Lower lip in full pout, she replied, “And that's just unfair.” Echo reached onto the table and then rummaged around in the sheets over her before reaching into her bloodstained bra and the pockets of her bike shorts. “Where's my phone?” Surely she could find someone to look after her at her place so she didn’t have to stay in the hospital.
Danny cringed as he grabbed the other visitor’s seat in the room. “Yeah, about that... your phone’s out getting fixed right now. Unfortunately it and your sunglasses met the creek bed and experienced a similar fate as you.”
“Oh no.” She winced and reached up to touch the bridge of her nose involuntarily as her hopes for escape dwindled in front of her. “This is bad.”
He nodded, conceding her point. “Yeah, yeah it is, kiddo.”
“So, I have to stay.” It was a statement of resignation more than anything and she was beyond displeased, but knew two things: first, this wasn’t her friends’ fault, and second, she couldn’t do anything about this.
“Unfortunately.” Messer nodded again. Seeing her dejected expression, he rushed to assure her, “Just for tonight though. They’ll let you go in the morning. Hopefully your phone will be back here by then, good as new.”
“Wait…” Her mind was still a little fuzzy, but Echo was pretty clear that phone insurance wasn’t nearly that prompt. “Who's got my phone?”
Lindsay looked at Danny with a pointy glare. “You didn't tell her?”
“She just woke up! You were here!” Danny held out a hand hoping to show that he was unarmed and not one to take her fire. He pulled the chair over to the bed to be closer to Echo. “Do you remember the two guys you crashed into?”
“I didn't crash,” she corrected, rolling her eyes coming much easier this time.
“Your face and bike would disagree,” he supplied diplomatically, with only the barest hint of a grin.
“Whatever.”
His eyes narrowed as he looked at her, assessing. “You really don’t remember?”
Shaking her head hurt, but she tried anyway. “Help me out here, Messer. I got nothin’.” She had vague recollections of the two hot guys from the path, but considering she saw them daily, those were not memories she trusted. “Were those the ones you and Flack had your guns on?”
Lindsay's eyes grew very large and she pinned Danny down with a very pointed glare. “You had your gun on Captain America and Sergeant Barnes?”
“It was a very fluid situation,” he gritted out through his clenched jaw. “It took a minute to get it all untangled.”
“I'm sorry, what?” The headache that had been dancing around the edge of her vision grew to full force causing her to rub her face. “What? That doesn't even make sense.” How in the fried fuck did the fricking Avengers figure into this? “How—? What—? I don’t understand—”
Danny cringed at her questions and pushed to his feet. “Well I think we've done enough damage here. Linds will get the girls and we'll see you tomorrow morning.”
Echo’s eyes popped open as she reached for him when he stepped away to put the chair back. “Wait! No! You don't get to just drop a bomb and leave like that.”
Likely attracted by her beeping monitor, the nurse came in to see her blood pressure spiking. “You have to go now. The patient needs her rest.”
Lindsey and Danny leaned over for quick hugs before heading toward the door. “This will make sense in the morning, E, okay? You’ll be fine,” he assured her.
She whined again, dropping her head into the pillows. “Okay. I'll see you tomorrow.”
“Yeah, you will,” he replied with his trademark toothy grin.
Right before he and Lindsey walked out the door, she asked, “Hey, who has my bike?”
“Hopefully that’ll be here with your phone.”
The way Danny’s smile turned secretive before the nurse closed the door was concerning, but her head hurt too badly to really give it too much thought. Honestly, she was tired again and since it seemed she had nowhere else to be, she figured it was a good moment to take a nap.
Tumblr media
“We should have brought the bike up.”
“And put it where, genius? In the hallway where it’d just be in the way? In here? It’s a hospital, not a subway platform.”
“I just think—”
“And that’s your problem right there, Stevie.”
“I just don’t want her to think we took it or anything.”
“Steve. Really. Come down off the cross; we need the wood.”
Echo woke to the sound of grumbled whispers and some sort of mechanical noise. Her dark eyes opened to the overly bright room, only to slam shut again at the vision before her. It was clearly a concussion-generated hallucination, because there, seated at her bedside were the two sexy mofos from the bike trail. A flimsy wisp of a memory danced across her mind of the blond one fetching her from the creek by picking her up, but… that wasn’t possible. It couldn’t be; she was too heavy for that. She hadn’t been picked up since childhood, and certainly was not one to invite the casual touch of strangers.
Cracking her eyes open the barest hint, she watched the two men, giants, both of them, arguing back and forth softly beside her. She’d never given thought to their size before beyond their muscles, considering her bike gave her a height advantage, but damn if they weren’t enormous, still dressed in their too-tight t-shirts and jeans that encased their thighs closer than clingwrap.
Her soft whimper at the sight brought their argument to a halt as both of them reached for her hand.
“Hey, beautiful,” the longhaired one greeted her with a soft smile as he delicately touched her fingers. His own fingers were cold, and when she looked to see why, it appeared they were made of some kind of metal. In her mind, she’d always assumed it had been some kind of tattoo when she’d seen him in passing, so the metal was a bit of a shock.
“Howya feelin’, sweetheart?” the blond one asked as he laid his hand over her same wrist.
She closed her eyes for a moment, just absorbing the absurdity of this moment. “Best. Hallucination. Ever.”
Her eyes snapped open at a bark of laughter followed by the mostly silent wheezing giggles that overtook Hotness 2. He threw his head back, shaking out his unbound hair in full chortle, a bubbly infectious sound that made her feel like she’d been infused with sunshine. The way his nose crinkled made her want to hug the hell outta him.
“Babydoll,” he choked out as he brushed away tears from his cheeks before patting her knee with a warm smile. “We’re as real as it gets. I promise.”
Blondie’s grin at his friend was a mix of affection and unruffled resignation. “Ignore Chuckles over there. How are you feelin’?”
“I’d feel better if I knew who you were,” she said softly. It was a strange feeling, a sensation of familiarity and absolutely no idea why she might know them. Not that she didn’t appreciate the attention, but it was disconcerting that they seemed to know her and she had no active memory of them beyond their occasional encounters on the trails and paths in Central Park.
“I’m James and this is Ste—Wait, you really don’t remember us?” The brunet went from amused to stricken in a breath when she shook her head, his free hand—it was a metal hand—scrubbing down his face and pulling his features taut before clapping his hands. “Right then. I’m James—my friends call me Bucky, and this is Steve. I ran into you on the trail yesterday.”
Eyes rolled to the ceiling, the giant blond then directed an annoyed glare at his compatriot before folding her hand in both of his massive paws. “What Buck means is he ran into you on the bike path. By the Glen Span bridge.”
“Oh! Jeez!” Thinking back, all she could see in her mind was the blue shirt and then everything goes kind of hazy until… “Guns? My friends had their guns on you?”
They both held their hands up, shaking their heads. “A misunderstanding. It all got sorted out pretty quickly, despite Smartass over here trying to get us killed,” James grumbled in Steve’s direction, even as a smirk curled around the corners of his mouth.
The blond winced at his friend’s description of the events but didn’t correct him. “Anyway, we wanted to come and apologize for all the upheaval we caused for you.”
“And your stitches and things,” the brunet added as he tucked his long bangs behind his ears. Looking down in his lap, he jerked as he noticed the bag by his feet. It was purple and glittery and had tissue paper sticking out of the top and he pushed it into her hands like it may be virulently contagious. “Here. From us.”
Immediately suspicious, Echo held the bag at arm’s length. “Okay? What is it?”
Steve rolled his eyes with a little huff of impatience. “Telling you ruins the surprise. We went to the trouble of wrapping ‘em—”
“Well, Wanda did,” Buck leaned over to stage-whisper conspiratorially.
“We went to the trouble of having ‘em wrapped,” the blond corrected with an impatient glare at his friend, “so open it.”
A little embarrassed at having their eager eyes track her every move, she dug past the mountain of glittery paper to pull out a shrink-wrapped, brand new Stark Phone in the signature red and gold box which she set on the bed next to her. Everything about this situation was so goddamn weird, it was hard to make all the pieces fit together in her head with any kind of coherence.
“Tony promised me he got all your stuff transferred over,” Steve offered eagerly as he poked the box a little closer to her.
“Pictures and things,” Buck clarified over his friend’s shoulder. They both seemed greatly invested in her taking the gift.
She held the box up in one hand while pawing through the bag with the other. “Okay?” Her fingers brushed against another box, this one textured and obviously expensive cardboard and almost as hefty as her phone box.
Echo’s eyes widened as she pulled out the black box with the distinctive gold writing on it. “Is this…?” she trailed off as she observed the two men closely. Steve nodded encouragingly, so she opened it, almost afraid of what could be inside. Inside was a hard leather case, with gold lettering that matched the exterior box. “You got me Versace sunglasses?” She couldn’t decide if she was happy or mildly horrified.
The blond nodded vigorously. “Yeah, yours were in pieces from where I stepped on them getting out of the water.” His cheeks flushed as he looked more than a little ashamed. “Tony assured me that you’d be okay with the replacement.”
“Stevie’s underselling it. Stark said you’d appreciate the upgrade.”
Upgrade? Shit… she was a city employee and made nowhere near the kind of money that this pair of sunglasses cost. They were likely more expensive than all the clothes in her closet. “I… thank you?”
“Here.” James nodded at the bag next to her. “There’s more in there.”
At the expectant looks on their faces, she set the black box aside and turned her attention to the bright yellow envelope just inside the bag. “‘Sorry we broke your stuff, please accept these replacements with our humblest apologies,’” she read, wary of their hopeful expressions when she finished. “'Replacements?' Plural? There’s more?”

Bucky Barnes x Reader: Sunflower Part 2
Warnings: Language, mentions of death, drugging, if I've missed anything, let me know PART 1
"You did what?" Tony was absolutely fuming. He was pacing the kitchen while the rest of the team watched him with worried expressions. Bruce and Steve were trying to calm him down, however, Natasha and Sam thought the situation was a little funny. And Bucky was sulking in the corner wondering where he went wrong.
Bucky’s closest friend in the tower, (y/n), was struggling to come to terms with her past. Once a pawn of Hydra, she was forced to commit unspeakable acts without any recollection.
This is exactly why Tony hated leaving anyone alone in the tower. Even if it only was for a couple of hours. When he wasn’t here, things went to shit. After witnessing some of the heinous things that (y/n) had done, Tony took her under his wing.
The day after they met, he had given her the nickname “Sunflower”. When the young woman realized what her powers were, a sunflower was the first thing that she created. Her first creation had been handed over to Tony as a way to say thank you.
All he wanted to do was provide her with a safe haven within the walls of the tower and shield her from the haunting memories. Maybe he should have done the exact opposite.
"There was nothing that he could do about it." Bruce pointed out. "I mean she did put the mixture in Bucky’s soup. Nobody in this room is to blame. It’s her own fault.”
“No.” Bucky had finally stood up from his place at the kitchen table. “Don’t blame this on her. This is everyone’s fault who didn’t let her watch the film. If anything, this is Tony’s fault.”
"Let this be a warning to everyone in this room.” Tony sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose. “Please don’t eat anything from Poison Ivy."
"I honestly don't think it'll happen again." Natasha shrugged. “I mean she did tell you there would be consequences Tony. I still don’t understand what was holding you back from letting her see those tapes.”
"I agree." Sam nodded. "I believe it was an isolated incident. Maybe you should have just shown her the files."
"She wasn't ready for them."
"But that isn't your decision." Bucky pointed out. "She isn't a child. (y/n) is strong enough to handle just about whatever. She was ready.”
"Oh yeah, and where is she now? According to Reindeer Games, she's been locked in her room since she finished going through everything. Is she even alive?" Tony grumbled at Bucky.
"I don’t know," Bucky admitted.
When the screen flickered to life, there had been an eerie glow cast along the wall. Her eyes were fixated on the images that danced in front of her. She found herself watching with a mix of both fascination and horror as her former self, under HYDRA’s influence, committed acts that she couldn’t remember.
She fought back tears, overwhelmed by the weight of their past actions and the following consequences. There was nothing but guilt, shame, and confusion all tangled together. The feelings were threatening to drown her so she locked herself in her room. The weight of their past came crashing down on her. The only thing she wanted right now was to seek isolation,
"She was when I walked by a few hours ago." Steve finally spoke up. He had been pretty much silent and analyzing every single part of the conversation the entire team was having. He wanted to side with Bucky, but at the same time, he was leaning toward Tony.
"How could you tell?" Natasha raised her eyebrow at the blonde.
"I could hear her heartbeat. It’s a side effect of the serum."
"Can you hear everyone's heartbeat?" Natasha asked.
"Yeah. I usually tune it out, but I noticed hers was much slower than usual. I thought she was sleeping, but maybe someone should check on her."
“I can go check on her.” Bucky immediately stood up. This was his doing so he should be the one to go and check on her. He got up from the table and headed toward the elevator where (y/n)’s room was.
To some extent he understood (y/n)’s anguish. Especially with his past. And he knew that the last thing she needed was to face this alone. Maybe just maybe he would have turned out a little differently if someone had been there for him. He stood outside the door debating if he should go inside or give her more time to process. Before he could give it more though, he decided that the best thing to do was to knock.
“Hey. I know you’re hurting, but shutting yourself away from all the people who care about you won’t solve anything.” Bucky was pleading with her. When he touched the doorknob, he noticed that it wasn’t locked. He could enter if he wanted, but (y/n) deserved privacy. “Can I please come in? I just want to help you.”
(y/n) tried to lift her head off the bed, but it fell back down. She was much too weak to do much of anything. But Bucky’s continued pleading gave her the strength to crawl out of the bed and slowly sulk over to the door to let him inside. There she stood with tear-stained cheeks and eyes filled with sorry. Even then Bucky couldn’t help but think she was absolutely beautiful.
He stepped into the room and swiftly closed the door behind him. He slowly approached (y/n) as if he was trying not to startle her. He knew that for the next couple of minutes he needed to choose his words very carefully. The last thing he wanted was to send her back down a rabbit hole.
“Look (y/n), I’m not going to pretend that I know exactly what you’re going through. However, I do know what it feels like to be haunted by your past. You’re not going to go through this alone. You have my word.”
“Bucky.” The tears started welling up in her eyes even more. “I’m not worthy of forgiveness. I can’t even forgive myself.”
“You have to understand that the person you were under HYDRA’S control, that wasn’t you. You were a victim and we know that it wasn’t anything that you wanted to do. But now you have the chance to rewrite your story and it can be whatever you want it to be now.” He took a step closer to (y/n) and slowly reached out to cup her cheek. “And if it’s worth anything, I see the person you are now. Just to name a few, you are strong, compassionate, and intelligent. You are someone who is deserving of love and forgiveness.”
“I’m scared Bucky. I’m scared of myself. If I was able to do all those things so easily, who is to say that I won’t be able to do it again?”
“Nobody.” Bucky admitted. “If placed in the right conditions, there’s no doubt in my mind that you could bring that skill set back out. However, as long as I have breath in my body, I will do everything in my power to make sure that you don’t have to experience that ever again.”
“Thank you Bucky.” (y/n) whispered. Her breath got caught in her throat. All she felt was gratitude toward her coworker.
“There is no reason for you to thank me. It’s going to be a long journey, but I want to help you find peace. That’s what teammates do, right?”
“Yeah. Teammates.” (y/n) grumbled when she started to think that’s all Bucky saw her as. Even though he had asked her on a date, his feelings might have changed after she basically drugged him.
“Is there something wrong with me calling you my teammate?” Bucky raised his eyebrow. The two of them had never fought side by side before, but he still liked to consider them teammates.
“No. It’s just-” (y/n) looked down trying to figure out the best way to describe what she was thinking. She needed Bucky to know that she saw him as more than a friend, but she wasn’t known for being the best at putting her thoughts into words.
“Just what?” Bucky nodded patiently waiting for her to figure out what she wanted to say. He could be patient, especially when it came to (y/n). He would wait on her for years if he needed to. Once (y/n) had decided what she wanted to say, she opened her mouth to respond, but Tony Stark burst into the room.
“How are you doing Sunflower?” Tony questioned walking over to her. “I’ve come to apologize. Maybe I was wrong for not letting you see that film, but I thought it was best for you. I’ve made my fair share of mistakes, but just know that none of us are holding this against you. All that matters is what we choose to do afterwards.”
Weeks turned into months as (y/n) embarked on her path to healing with Bucky right by her side. (y/n) spent time with each Avenger learning how they moved on from their own past.
“I’ve learned that the only way to move forward is to confront your past head on.” Nashsha shared with the younger Avenger. “All you can do is accept your mistakes. Once you do that, you have to take responsibility and that leads you toward redemption. I like to think that you are not defined by your past actions, but by the choices you make now.”
There was solace found in Wanda as well. “You have the power to change (y/n) and use your abilities for good. You must remember that your powers are part of you, but they don’t define you. It’s not going to be an easy road. Take it from someone who held an entire city in captivity. But once you learn to forgive yourself, you will be able to start moving on. Don’t let your past define you.”
“Unchecked power can lead to destruction.” Stephen Strange spent time with (y/n) teaching her how to harness her abilities with control and precision. “However, when power is wielded with empathy and purpose, it can bring about a great change.”
With the support of her new family, (y/n) was able to really begin the healing process. Over the next couple of months, Bucky remained a constant pillar of support for (y/n). He listened to her without judgment and offered a comforting presence. Their friendship started developing into something more.
One evening, (y/n) found herself on the rooftop with Bucky. The entire team had decided to go out to the bar, but the two of them wanted to have a quiet night in. The sun had started to dip below the horizon and it casted hues of orange and purple across the sky. The breeze whispered through their hair and the distant city lights illuminated the pathways below them.
“I just want to say that I am so proud of you (y/n).” He offered her a warm smile. There was so much more he wanted to say, but he just didn’t know how to put it into words.
“You mean more to me than I can put into words. You‘ve shown me more kindness, understanding, and love than I thought I deserved.” (y/n) smiled back at him.
His gaze softened as he reached out to gently take the reader’s hand. Their fingers intertwined and it sent a jolt of warmth between the pair.
Bucky and (y/n)’s locked and there was a silent understanding between the two of them. It was as if the weight of their shared experiences had led them to this moment.
“There’s something I need to tell you, Bucky.” (y/n) couldn’t remember the last time she was this vulnerable. Maybe never. But she felt like now was the time to tell Bucky what had been playing over and over in her mind for the past couple of months. “You’ve seen me at my worst, yet you’ve never failed to continue to support me. You’ve made me believe in forgiveness and the possibility of healing. And most importantly, you’ve taught me how to love.”
“I’ve never felt like this about anyone. I care about you more than I ever thought was possible.” A soft smile plated on Bucky’s lips and his thumb traced gentle circles on the back of (y/n)’s hand.
It seemed as if the sunset and rooftop with it held its breath as (y/n) and Bucky leaned in toward each other. Their lips met in a gentle, tentative kiss. It was a union of two souls seeking solace and a connection. No more words needed to be said between the two. They knew exactly what the other was feeling.
The moment was filled with the weight of their past, but also with the promise of a brighter future.
