Into the Anthill pt 38 - Flashbacks Only (The Skrull Years)
So Hank got replaced by a skrull and missed about 3 years of Marvel’s publication history. Happens to the best of us I guess. In that timeframe the skrull named Criti Noll impersonated Hank for about 90 comic issues from House of M to Civil War to the start of Secret Invasion. So, the only comics I can genuinely count as Hank’s appearances here are the flashback and retcon stories he appeared in.
It’s a good thing he was a founding Avenger or there wouldn’t have been shit to cover here.
🐜🐜🐜
Marvel Monsters: Monsters on the Prowl
In this flashback story set before Hank ever became Goliath, Mole Man and The Collector came into competition over how many giant monsters they controlled. Mole Man released several of his into NYC to wreak havoc to prove that his monsters were better. Thing and Hulk were joined by Giant-Man and Beast to fight them.
Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes II vol 1 #1-8
With the recent addition of Vision to the Avengers’ roster, the founding members got together for a meeting. Goliath, now serving as chairman, had an uphill battle with the National Security Council ahead of him now that Captain America was off the team. S.H.I.E.L.D. took Vision into custody to interrogate him soon after, partly to vet his intentions and partly to make sure he had nothing to do with their recent Super Adaptoid intel. Apparently A.I.M. had planned to mass produce them but lost control and had their island base overrun by them. Hank led the team to the island to handle the Adaptoid threat and destroyed dozens of them on his own as Goliath while the rest of the team shut down the production line. The original Super Adaptoid escaped without a trace and Hank began to suffer nightmares about the battle. He awoke in a cold sweat and headed to his lab, where he brushed everything off of one of his tables in a rage. The gaseous reaction from the chemicals he’d knocked over caused the temporary psychosis that led him to becoming Yellowjacket.
This retconned version of the Yellojacket story asserts that everyone knew he was Hank the whole time but played along because he didn’t seem to know it himself. They worried that trying to snap him out of this by force could break him entirely, so they allowed the farce to play out to its logical conclusion. Jan, asserting that she was the only one who knew what was best for him, arranged their wedding as fast as she could and even had a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent stationed as the minister. Amid rising concerns about his mental health Hank stepped down as Avengers chairman after the wedding.
Avengers Classic vol 1 #1-3
At the second monthly meeting of the original Avengers Jan diffused a brewing fight between Hulk and Thor by calling both of them pretty. Iron Man tried to start the meeting by clarifying that he was their leader, but Hulk, Thor, and Ant-Man each argued that they were more qualified for the role. Thor suggested arm wrestling for it, but Wasp had a better idea: make her the official chairman on the charter because “it won’t count since she’s a girl,” leaving their masculinity intact. Some time later after Hulk quit the team, Iron Man and Giant-Man had a practice battle against each other to see if the Iron Man mk 3 armor could keep up with Hank’s newly increased size and strength. On the ride home Hank confided that he didn’t think he was strong enough for this line of work and admitted that he’d already figured out Iron Man’s secret identity.

The newest argument that I've seen lately that bothers me enough to make a post about is that the MCU is taking competent teenagers from the comics and making them incompetent so that an adult hero can take them under their wing and save the day. The first this argument was made for was Peter and then a few weeks ago, I saw that it was made about America.
I'll do America first since I have less to say about her:
America Chavez is a 15-16 year old girl who has been living on her own for approximately 8 years. She, by her own account, has travelled to 73 universes and survived them all. She may not be able to control her powers but if she was incompetent, like these arguments make her out to be, she would've have survived. In the end, she does gain control of her powers and she is the one who saves the day in the movie about Doctor Strange. Stephen even makes it a point that "this whole time, you've taken us exactly where we needed to go." Her meeting Stephen was chance and while he did protect her and make sure she lived long enough to get to that point, her saving the day was all on her. Stephen didn't tell her how to open the portal to the other world, she figured that out on her own.
Now, onto the hill I will die on: In what world is Peter Parker shown to be incompetent?
The argument is that Peter relies too much on adults--Tony then Mysterio then Strange--to save the day when that is simply not true.
Let's go back to Captain America: Civil War. Tony seeks Peter out because the spider kid is saving the day and he's impressed. Tony recruits Peter because of his abilities and his skills. Peter then goes on to hold his own against a team made up of 2 super soldiers, a trained soldier in a flying suit, the world's top marksman, a witch, and a man who can shrink or grow in size depending on what he needs at the time. Sure, our understanding is that Tony knew that Peter wouldn't have gotten hurt because none of that team would have hurt a kid but the point is that he still held his own and managed to beat 2 of this team. He even devises the plan to get Giant Man down.
Then we have Homecoming. Yes, he has the fancy suit that Tony made for him but the entire point of this movie is to show that Peter is more than the suit. Peter fights against Vulture and even has a building fall on him and has to get up. Peter did that all on his own. Peter saved the day without Tony.
Next is Avengers Infinity War and Endgame. Peter sees the action from the school bus and joins in. Peter then manages to stow away to space. Once again, we see Peter coming up with the plan to save Strange. Peter is an active part of this movie and helps to try to save the day. Yes, he has the Iron Spider suit to keep him from dying from not being able to breathe in space but once he's there, he doesn't necessarily need it. It's just an added bonus. When he comes back after the Blip, Peter is the one who keeps the gauntlet for a good bit of that fight. Yeah, he has help from Steve and the group of women along the way but Endgame was a team effort.
Next, we have Far From Home, the first movie directly dealing with the aftermath of the Blip and we see Peter grieving for Tony. All Peter wants to do is go on a field trip and ask out MJ. He doesn't want to do any superheroing because he's 16 and hasn't had a good time of it lately. Fury shows up and gives him orders, the same way he would have if that was Captain America or Black Widow or Hawkeye standing there. People argue that Peter turned to Mysterio as another sort of father figure, when in fact, it was Mysterio who sought out Peter because of EDITH and ended up using him. This entire movie was Peter needing to learn to trust his instincts rather than relying on the tech that he was given. In the end, it's Peter's own spidey-sense and instincts that saves him.
No Way Home is the movie that existed to break Peter down so we could see what he's made of. Peter sought Strange out to help with college not for himself but for MJ and Ned because it wasn't fair to them that they couldn't get into their dream school because of their association with him. Stephen felt bad for the kid and did the spell but he didn't have as big of a role in this film as everyone thinks he did. Sure, I joke about him adopting Peter but Stephen was really more of a plot device to bring in Raimi Peter and TASM Peter and their villains to our world. This movie existed to remind us that Peter is a good hearted, kind, superheroic person. It's why he wanted to help "fix" the villains and send them home rather than letting them go back home to die. Even after one of them directly kills Aunt May, he continues wanting to help them. He almost kills Green Goblin out of rage and grief but the older version of him stops him and we see Peter go onto make the ultimate sacrifice of letting the world forget about him to stop the rest of the spiderverse villains from coming through. It's Peter who saves the day, not Stephen, and while he had help from the older versions of himself, they didn't save the day either--Peter did. We even see that at the end of the movie, Peter is managing to be smiling and surviving. He's making it. He made his own suit since he no longer has the Stark tech to use. He's still going out and being our friendly neighborhood spiderman that we all know and love. And he did this on his own. Peter may have gotten help along the way but his own movies thus far have existed to show that he is competent on his own.
My question is: Why is it so bad for the teenagers to get help from the older, theoretically more responsible adults?

My humble thoughts on
Tumblr media
Episode 1.01 - "Generation, Why?" (No spoilers)
I was very pleasantly impressed with the Ms. Marvel premiere! It did take me a little while to truly sink into it but I got more and more engrossed as it progressed.
Iman Vellani is perfect as Kamala Khan. Stellar casting choice. She’s cute, charming and instantly likable. The show is fun, colorful and features impressive and stylish cinematography. I liked how they used various animated doodles throughout to visualize Kamala’s wild imagination, daydreams and her own artistic sensibilities.
The episode is very much like the first issue of the comic as it introduces Kamala’s family, her home life, best friend Bruno and her admiration for Captain Marvel as her favorite super hero. I really enjoyed the premise of Kamala wanting to go to an Avengers con and dress as Captain Marvel in a cosplay contest.
The biggest divergence from the comics is her powers and how she gains them. This has been a subject of consternation for some fans. I’m not finding it to be that big of a deal. In the comic, her main powers are the ability to stretch her limbs and grow her body to giant size or as she calls it, “embiggening”. These powers are very similar to Reed Richards (Mr. Fantastic) and Giant Man/Goliath/Ant Man respectively. I don’t know if this is the reason they changed it but from we’ve seen so far I feel, at least visually her powers invoke the spirit of her original power set just displayed in a more energy type form.
The origin of her powers is also different. In the comics she gained her powers after being exposed to a substance called Terrigen Mist. Kamala gains her power in the show from a bangle. A seemingly innocuous heirloom handed down from Kamala’s grandmother. It will be interesting to learn more about this new artifact and its origins going forward.
I’m looking forward to see where they go with this series. I always thought the comic book had great character writing but rather forgettable stories and silly villains. I hope the pacing picks up in subsequent episodes but given this has been an issue in all the D+ shows so far, along with entertaining action scenes few and far between this may be wishful thinking. Those issues aside I think this was a solid, fun and energetic introductory episode for Kamala Kahn. ⭐⭐⭐½

Ms marvel is pretty easy: you're gonna want to start with 2014 Ms marvel: no normal and follow her up til secret wars. you can ignore secret wars. she has another ongoing that started in 2016? I believe? and that one goes on for a while. all new all different avengers (2016) and after that, champions (2016) and champions (2019) are pretty good for her too. wrt x men: pick a character (probably pick someone who was introduced in the 70s-80s-90s cause that should give you a fair bit of material unless you go SUPER niche), go to cmro.com, and read everything with them. it's not going to make sense and that's okay. but you'll probably get a good sense of what's happening in the comics world around them. keep in mind: alternate universes (like secret wars in 2015, like age of apocalypse in the 90s or age of x in the early 2010s) do not matter and you can ignore them. given that you mentioned interest in Spiderman, you might try following Angelica Jones, firestar in "Spiderman and his amazing friends". she was introduced in the 80s iirc, had an origin story solo, and actually jumps to the new warriors and doesn't appear in x men much -- but she's a solid choice, esp bc she's got plot shit going on in comics rn. you also mentioned liking Nightwing, so you might look at nightcrawler, who is (like dick) also an acrobat. he was introduced in giant sized x men back in 1975. he's in the main x men story for a while, was a founding member of Excalibur, appeared in the movies and TV shows, and he's a well known enough character that you'll be able to follow his appearances through most major x men events. Tumblr won't let me send messages with my sideblog unfortunately but if you want to know more abt getting into comics (mostly x men. I am an x men fan 😔) you can find me at @karmirage . good luck!
I THOUGHT NOBODY WOULD GIVE ME RECCOMENDATIONS TYY SO MUCH!!
I actually really loved Nightcrawler in the movies so that’s a great pick!! He’s such a silly guy tbhh..
I could be wrong about this but I believe in the Ultimate comics Liz Allan was Firestar? So that one might be interrsting too!! ( ofc having a different identity but still the Ultimate Comics have introduced me to a lot of cool concepts that if I like there- I generally enjoy in the main universe so good pick tysmmm!!! )
Excited to read Ms. Marvel especially since I haven’t had much motivation to finish her show but now that I have some good comics of her to read I might! I also loved her dynamic with Miles in those comics so I’m super excited to see her friendship with other superheroes and her differences between the show and the comics!!

if your prompts are still open, for wanda and vision: "my love for you is set in stone" (bc tell me that 'Heart of Stone' from SIX isn't the perfect song to encapsulate the devastation that was the finale of WandaVision?! gahhh I just want Wanda, Vision and the kids to be together and happy!)
In which Vision needs to defeat Wanda before he can save her.
Inspired by a mashup of two prompts:
1)    One shot of Vision and Wanda making up after a fight. Would love to see your take on it.
2)    If your prompts are still open, for Wanda and Vision: "my love for you is set in stone" (bc tell me that 'Heart of Stone' from SIX isn't the perfect song to encapsulate the devastation that was the finale of WandaVision?! gahhh I just want Wanda, Vision and the kids to be together and happy!)
Bonkers drabble speculation on how Dr. Strange and the Multiverse of Madness movie might end. I make a ton of assumptions on this so please be aware that this all made up. Like, more made up than usual. Leans heavily into comic book lore, especially the Giant-Size Avengers Comic Book, Issue #4.
Oh, and I’m a noob when it comes to fight scenes, so I’ve contrived every way to avoid writing one.
Thanks, anons! The song “Heart of Stone” is now on my WandaVision playlist.
Heart of Stone
Vision’s vibranium arc reactor, which Dr. Cho installed to replace the Mind Stone and the flimsy solar absorption unit courtesy of SWORD, strains against Wanda’s sustained energy blast. Her beautiful blue eyes which normally turn a color of magma when she invokes her power, are now pitch black from Dormammu’s possession. Under his influence, she is doing her best to fulfill his diabolical directive.
Kill The Vision.
Even after Dr. Strange’s attempts to weaken her, she is as incandescent as the black energy that pulses at the center of the Dark Dimension. The Supreme Sorcerer tried to warn Vision when he first appeared in this hellish dimension of evil in search of Wanda.
She won’t recognize you. She will kill you and when she returns to herself and realizes what she has done, nothing in the universe – not me, not Agatha Harkness, not even Dormammu himself – will be able to withstand the force of her rage.
If he cannot reach her, she will not only destroy him, but in her grief, she will tear apart the multiverse and everything within it. Wanda’s grief is a cosmic force all its own.
He knows. He became well-acquainted with it in Westview when, like a puppet himself, he was sent to neutralize her.
Now, suspended between a host of conquered planets at the mercy of the god of the Dark Dimension, Wanda is draining him, even as he dredges up every last store of energy that the reactor can generate to resist her. Around him, the dimension roars with the collective fear of an infinite number of trapped beings.
I’ll hold off Dormammu, but if she doesn’t snap out of his spell, neither of us will be able to stop her and Dormammu will take Earth’s dimension.
As Dr. Strange warned, Vision needs to thwart Dormammu’s endless designs to absorb Earth into the Dark Dimension, but Vision also needs Wanda and he must find a way to get her back.
He sends another pulse of energy, forcing her to pull back, but she recovers quickly, his blast nothing more than an annoying insect bite. If he could just get to her. Look into her eyes. He knows like he knows who he is, who they are together, that he can reach her.
“Wanda, you are killing me. Darling, please,” he begs, knowing his words are a poor substitute for what he needs to do to free her.
“The Vision must die,” Wanda repeats, sending a last, decisive blast towards him. The impact sends fire through his body, heat like nothing he’s ever experienced. He falls, hurtling like a chunk of meteor to the hellish rock below. The impact is nothing compared to the pain. Vision is burning in his skin. His senses are compromised, his systems failing, despite the nanobots unfurling in his bloodstream, scurrying to stem the hemorrhages of a body struggling to remain intact.
When Wanda lands before him, he senses her more than he feels her. He reaches out to her, lifting his eyes to gaze into hers. Even though his vision is fading, he sees that they are as bottomless as the dark matter of the cosmos. As dark as the evil that holds her.
“Wanda, you must remember…who you are…”
“Wanda Maximoff is no more,” she drones and his heart fractures at the realization that her words might hold an unwanted truth. Perhaps Dormammu has buried Wanda…his Wanda… so far inside herself that she may never emerge again.
“Who said…Wanda is no more? Dormammu? You once saidyou needed no one…to tell you who you are. Do you really take him at his word?”
She blinks, shaking her head as if to clear it. “Dormammu,” she murmurs and the emptiness in her voice is rich with confusion. On the strength of this, Vision staggers to his feet.
“You are not a puppet.” He reaches for her, her flinch half-hearted because she allows him to grasp her by her upper arms. “You are Wanda Maximoff. You are the Scarlet Witch –“
“The Scarlet Witch,” she repeats.
“—and you are my love,” he finishes before his strength gives out and he falls to one knee before her. “I am weak. I am not sure if I will recover, but you must remember who you are.”
The struggle is clear on her face. “Remember who I am. Who I am...”
“Yes. And remember that my love for you is set in stone, no matter what happens here.”
“Vision?” she asks, her question as plaintive as a child’s. He looks up again at the brittle tone of her voice. The darkness in her eyes floods with a blue as bright as the summer sky over the mountains, a blue that is out of place in this terrible hellscape.
“Wanda,” he says, reaching for her, but his strength is failing him as energy is diverted to repairing his damaged systems. “Remember us.”
She stiffens as if a distended rubber band has snapped into place. “Vision!” she shouts, kneeling before him. “Did I do this?”
He wants to say give her an affirmative answer but speech has escaped him and staying conscious consumes his every last effort.
“No-no-no-no,” she moans, tears distorting her words. “You can’t…you can’t die again.” Her hands glow and she places them over him. “I’m here. I’ll fix you.”
Vision takes a deep breath as her energy courses through him – familiar, like the smell of her hair or the softness of her skin. The fire that threatened to consume him earlier cools to a gentle pulse as the nanobots in his body feed on her energy, accelerating repairs, putting his body back together again at a rate even they had not been designed for. But they hold onto their structural integrity and Vision is able to see clearly again. His thoughts untangle and his strength returns.
She withdraws her powers, her palms warm as she cradles his head in her hands. “How? How did you get here?”
Vision puts his hand over hers, reveling in the feel of her skin against his. “It is a rather long story that I will share with you when we leave this place.”
“First things first,” she says, crushing her lips to his and at that moment, he realizes how much he has missed this as well, the sheer physicality of her love for him. A mad god howls in rage just beyond, the Dark Dimension threatens to swallow them both, but he is lost to the taste of her mouth and the warmth of her arms wrapped around him.
“Hey, guys?” comes a voice that pulls them from their bubble of bliss. “I could use some help over here.”
They pull apart to see Dr. Strange, locked in some magical struggle for dominance against the god of the Dark Dimension, straining against his power.
“I’ve got this,” Wanda says, rising into the air. “Don’t go anywhere.”
In awe of her power, he takes off beside her, ready to offer her the backup she really does not need. “You will never get rid of me again.”

365 Marvel Comics Paper Cut-Out SuperHeroes - One Hero, Every Day, All Year…
December 16th - Ant Man / Hank Pym
Doctor Henry ‘Hank’ Pym was an American entomologist, biochemist, roboticist, engineer, physicist and superhero adventurer.  Early in his career as an experimental physicist, he discovered a rare subatomic matter he named ‘Pym Particles.’ These particles can be used to increase or decrease the size and mass of objects or living beings without negatively affecting the physical integrity of the mass.  Pym was able synthesize the particles thus enabling him to decrease his size to mere millimeters or grown into a towering giant.  Inexplicably, this size-alteration does not affect the integrity of mass; hence Pym maintained his regular-sized strength when shrunken down nor was his lungs or skeletal structure overtaxed while in giant form.
Pym married Maria Trovaya, the daughter of an acclaimed Hungarian entomologist.  Maria was abducted by agents of an unspecified foreign government on the couple’s honeymoon, believing that Pym worked U.S. State department and he would offer up state secrets in exchange for her release.  Maria attempted to escape and was tragically killed.
Pym returned home and, as a means to try to cope with his bereavement, threw himself into his work.  He ended up devising a special helmet that enabled him to communicate and control insects of the formicidae family (any breed of ant).  Pym would go on build a specialized suit and used his Pym Particles to become the super hero known as Ant-Man.  Battling crime beside his future second wife, Janet Van Dyne, who had taken on the mantle of the Wasp, the pair would have numerous adventures together.  Later the two became founding members of the Avengers, ‘Earth's Mightiest Heroes.’  Pym remained a member of the Avengers for many years.
Throughout much of his life, Pym had coped with undiagnosed bipolar disorder.  He experienced crippling episodes of depression and self-hatred followed by times of manic energy directed toward scientific discovery and invention.  Pym’s times of self reproach often resulted in efforts to reinvent his super hero guise and he cycled through numerous alternate hero identities (including Giant Man, Goliath and Yellowjacket).  Whereas his times of manic ingenuity often resulted in poor judgement and impulsive decisions where his scientific genius created dangerous machines and inventions.
One such invention was the deadly android, Ultron, who would go on to become a terrible threat and reoccurring foe to The Avengers.
Pym’s difficulties worsened after the creation of Ultron and he became more unstable and even violent.  He lashed out at his wife, Janet, striking her in the face and built a robotic weapon he planned on unleashing on the Avengers so he could defeat it and show his worth.  It all went very poorly and it led to Pym being kicked out of the Avengers.  Soon thereafter, Jan filed for divorce.
Pym finally entered into treatment and made vast improvements.  He went on to become a member of the West Coast Iteration of The Avengers before finally returning to the main Avengers team.  Although he was not able to fully reconcile with his ex-wife, Janet, the two did manage to rekindle their friendship.
Some time thereafter, Pym was abducted by a Super Skrull agent who replaced him in the build up to the Skrull’s Secret Invasion.  This Skrull version of Pym entered into a romance with fellow Avenger, Tigra, and their affair resulted in Tygra becoming pregnant.
The real Pym finally returned and went on to establish the Avengers Academy.  He met Tigra’s son and determined that Skrull who had impersonated him did so on an entirely genetic level, leaving no trace of Skrull DNA and making the lad Pym’s biological son.  It made for a peculiar situation but Pym was willing to be as involved in his son’s life as Tigra wanted him to be.
Some time thereafter, Pym perished in battle, sacrificing himself to put a stop to a deadly scheme orchestrated by Ultron.  Following his death, it was discovered that his first wife, Maria, was pregnant at the time of her abduction and bore a daughter named Nadia just prior to her death.  Nadia was raised in Russia but emigrated to the United States and has gone on to become the young heroine known as the second Wasp.
Actor Michael Douglas portrays a version of Hank Pym in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.  The troubled hero first appeared in the pages of Strange Tales #75 (1960).

The Beta Team That Never Was - Fanfiction Corner (BH6 Edition)
So all of this Peni Parker comic talk actually got me thinking about the process of her being included in my fanfiction.
I wish I could tell you it was a long and arduous process, but...
OK, maybe some of it was hard.  But when you have a virtually endless supply of Marvel characters that you can use for possible teammates for Big Hero 6, you have to go with your gut.
We all know that the team will be Robbie, Aspen, Peni, Doreen (eventually), and Kate.  But there were six other candidates that could have been in the mix as well.
And five of them have their emblems here:
Tumblr media
These were made before I actually knew how to make hero emblems properly.
Some of them you might recognize.  Some you may not.  But we’re going to go through them all, from left to right.
And to start...it’s really hard to draw tiny hearts.
Tumblr media
1.) Riri Williams/Ironheart - Ironically enough, it was around the time that Hiro started chasing Sirque around the town in “Portal Enemy” that I started brainstorming her.  A teenage genius, stuck as to what to make, sees “Captain Cutie” and the chase on the news and gets brainstorming.
Thus, the Power Armor is born.
And she gets so excited that she bolts off to San Fransokyo to show her idol what she’s created.
And then, as per the Big Hero 6 Fanfiction Clause states...shenanigans ensue.
It was an interesting possibility, but the thought of Ironheart was really late into me doing the backstories of the people that I had chosen, so she was pushed aside.  I don’t personally see me revisiting her in the future, but who knows?
Tumblr media
2.) Nadia Van Dyne/The Wasp - Back when Karmi had first been pulled out of SFIT, there was a young woman who wanted to recruit her into a special organization.  It was one that brought together the greatest female minds in their fields, and Karmi was on said recruitment list.
The organization?
Tumblr media
Genius In action Research Labs, or G.I.R.L. for short.  And it was led by the Wasp’s daughter, Nadia Pym (later changed to Nadia Van Dyne).
Plot-wise, this was probably the person that I got the farthest with, since the story would’ve been more of a focus on Karmi than anyone else.  Also, the idea of writing someone with Bipolar Disorder (which Nadia was confirmed to have in her latest solo run) was intriguing if nothing else.
Unfortunately, it sort of dried up from there.  A lack of a central conflict, uncertainty as to how many of the other girls (Taina, Priya, Shay, and Ying) to have, and how to handle her actual powers stopped it cold.
But seriously, how do you write in the ability to shrink to microscopic size?  That’s not really a thing, even in a world as futuristic as San Fransokyo.
Tumblr media
3.) America Chavez/Ms. America - The mere idea of a Superman-esque Latina teenager was enticing, especially because America, in her relatively short comic history, was with the Ultimates and the West Coast Avengers (meaning there was a possible Kate/Hawkeye angle).  Making start-shaped portals was the Silent Sparrow angle, and the all-around badass, headstrong attitude would be the counter to Honey Lemon’s more nurturing personality.
But being from an alternate universe (which has very recently been retconned in the comics in part because she will be appearing in the MCU and Doctor Strange 2), no real villain to play off of, and becoming possibly way too overpowered for the BH6 universe, she was scrapped.
It’s quite a shame.  I really like her in the comics that she’s in.  Perhaps there will be an opportunity for her somewhere down the line...
Tumblr media
4.) Alison Blaire/Dazzler - A pop star with light-based powers?
Or better yet, a struggling artist with acoustikinesis?
Her power to convert sound into light was what originally drew me to her.  Something that could be made into a technological ability, unique enough to put a (pardon the pun) spotlight on it.
An actual blonde instead of whatever HL’s hair color is.
Heck, she even has a half-sister named Lois that could have been the antagonist (death tough, destruction waves, and the like).
But she quickly got lost in the fold.  Better ideas (like Kate and Doreen) got more of my brainstorming, and she was eventually given up on.
But funnily enough...
Tumblr media
It’s almost like she’s already in the show.
(See, for the people who may be new, one of the many Marvel theories that I’ve touched upon is that High Voltage is actually this universe’s version of Dazzler.  Juniper is Alison and Barb is...well...Barbara London, Alison’s mom).
Hey, @baymaksu totally agrees with me kinda sort of.
Tumblr media
5.) Cindy Moon/Silk - I knew right from the get-go that I wanted a Spider-person on the beta team.  I also knew that I didn’t want Peter.
No offense to Peter Parker.  He’s fine.  But there’s a billion other Spiders out there, and I wanted someone out of the normal vein of Peter, as well as even Miles and Gwen.
And in came Cindy.
Locked away in The Bunker because of her spider powers manifesting, she was eventually released by Peter and thus began her entrance into the main Marvel world.
Her “unique ability” is her improved Spider-Sense, which Peter has said is even better than his own.  That, plus her other powers, brought her the closest out of anyone to being a member of the Big Hero 6 Beta Team.
As we all know, however, Peni ended up getting the spot over Cindy (for the family angle with Hiro and the giant robot that she pilots).  On the other hand, Cindy would later make her debut in the stinger of the last chapter of Along Came The S.P.I.D.E.R., along with Miles, Anya, and Joey.
Unlike Riri, Nadia, America, and Alison, Cindy and the rest of Peni’s little Spider Society are going to be showing up in future stories.  And if I can get everything in order, they will be starring in their own story set in the Big Hero 6 universe.
Finally, I have no emblem for them, but the honorable mention goes to...
Tumblr media
6.) Lunella Lafayette/Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur - Yes, there was a point in time where I was seriously considering putting a nine-year-old super genius and a giant red T-rex into my stories.
Ignoring the giant...”red flag” here, the reason why Luna never made it is the same reason why I haven’t put Rishi in anything yet.  It’s because I don’t really know what to do with supergeniuses that young.  Hiro is at least a teenager and thus has teenager-y problems to fall back on (like puberty and Karmi and all that jazz), but a nine-year-old?  That’s a little too extreme for me.
When I was nine, I was busy playing with sticks in my backyard with my brother, not solving unsolvable puzzles from Bruce Banner.
...All that, and the giant dinosaur.
Tumblr media
But hey, at least Disney is jumping on the MG/DD train.  That’s good to see.
Crossover potential, perhaps?
P.S. - As I was finishing putting this post together, it occurred to me that I may get this possible question in the comments, so I’m going to head it off at the pass.
“You know that all of your possible superheroes are girls, right?”
First of all...sexist.
Second of all...true.
That was about 90% on accident.  The actual team (Robbie, Aspen, Peni, Doreen, and Kate) has only one guy on it (two if you count Eli, three if you count Tippy-Toe).
I don’t really have a good explanation for that.  I like all superheroes, but I think that the girl and woman superheroes need some spotlight, you know?  I could have pulled people like Namor or Miles or the male Hawkeye into the mix, but to be honest, I find the characters I chose more interesting than a lot of the guy characters I was contemplating.
Of course, nothing is stopping any of you from using those characters in your stories.  Be my guest, not that you really need my permission or anything.
Tumblr media
But you can’t take Aspen.  Aspen is mine. (Spoiler: Aspen is not mine.)

i would die for you, clint barton (clint barton x oc)
a/n: HI I’M BACK with a stupid little drabble. the talented @obwjam has reignited my love for comics!clint barton so i wrote a fic of him and an oc. i haven’t proofread it and the ending super sucks but i still managed to churn out about 1900 words so enjoy!!!
i’ll proofread/edit in the morning lol
brig is nb; they/them pronouns pls
They’re scared, and Clint gets it. He’d be scared, too, if there was some weird giant searching for him. He’s no stranger to the feeling of fear. But when he’s the one causing it, it feels terrible.
Brooklyn is in shambles. A new supervillain group tests their weapons on a bank in Bushwick, the Avengers are on the case, a city block is engulfed in chaos and violence. And Clint Barton is searching for a 3-inch-tall person who’s hiding in the alleyway of a Dunkin Donuts.
He sighs and kneels down, peering under the dumpster. Huddled in the dark is the shaking borrower, who stares back with wide eyes and a gaping mouth. They look like crap: covered in dried blood and dirt, their clothes torn and ratty. But the little guy is stubborn as hell, and hurls a pebble in his direction. They miss by a long shot. He would’ve laughed if the city wasn’t on fire.
“C’mon out, bud,” he says. A faint boom! rattles the world behind him. “It’s not safe under there. Are you lookin’ to be caught? A rat, an alley cat… God forbid, there might be a human who ain’t as nice as I am.” With a nervous glance behind him, he sees Kate dart past, notching an arrow and letting it fly. “Not to mention that the city’s comin’ apart.”
They shout something back, and Clint can barely piece together the words leave and alone. It’s not helpful, though, that they’re so small and covered in shadow. And the fact that he can see their teary eyes in the dark is not helping his conscience. Another explosion shakes the earth, and the borrower lets out a wail that he does hear.
They’re both getting frantic. He softens his face, puts a pleading look into his eyes. “Please,” he calls. “I can keep you safe.”
The borrower doesn’t get to respond. A scream rips through the air, and he’s made up his mind. He jumps to his feet and drags the dumpster back, only getting a glimpse of the sheer terror on their tiny face before he scoops them up in a fist and tucks them into a jacket pocket. It’s not ideal, but if it means they won’t be crushed or eaten, he’ll take it.
They’re writhing, and he ignores it. The feeling of them shaking against his chest forms a pit in his stomach. They’re scared, but at least they’re safe.
The rest of the battle zips by like a blur. Clint spends it shielding the borrower, dodging rubble, and praying to whatever gods present for this little guy to not be so terrified of him. Their shaking has stopped for now, but they’re stiff as a board and flinching with every move he makes. When the fight dies down, he’s left nursing a wound on his shoulder and cupping his hand around his pocket. He’s gotta get out of there, and fast.
His free hand finds his comms, and he sends a quick farewell message to Kate. She responds quick, familiar beeps filling his ears: Get home safe. See you soon, Hawkeye.
The message brings a smile to his face, but it disappears when he remembers his job. His day isn’t over yet.
   He runs his way home.
The apartment greets him with blinding fluorescents and a mess on his coffee table. Things that are normally hangover-induced nuisances are now pushed to the far corners of his mind as he limps to his counter.
His fingers dive into his pocket, and he does his best to be gentle, but with the little guy swerving away from his hand, he ends up tangled around their limbs, pulling them out in a quivering heap. They’re a pitiful sight; their tiny face is tear-stained, and once they lock eyes, the poor kid flinches back into their protective huddle.
They’re speaking, and fast. That much he knows. Their voice is buzzing away. But he can’t understand anything that's coming out. He gets the gist of what they might be saying: there’s a pleading look in their eyes, and their lip is quivering. He doesn’t like this feeling.
“Hey,” he whispers, cupping his hands closer around the tiny body. “Hey. Look at me.” He nudges their shoulder. They’re practically humming with anxiety. “C’mon, calm down, buddy. You’re okay.”
They aren’t making any progress like this. Clint lowers his hands to the countertop and the borrower stumbles off, clutching their chest and scrubbing the tears from their eyes. “Look,” he says softly. “Not touching you anymore, see? You’re fine. You’re okay.”
He watches with a pang in his heart as they cry for a bit, hugging their knees to their chest, and takes the time to look them over. Their hair is dark and matted, their clothes patchy, their face young, but thin and gaunt. This isn’t the same stubborn little guy he’d met an hour ago; this is someone who is absolutely-fucking-terrified of him. He can barely deal with crying people at his own height; he can’t even begin to comfort someone who’s three inches tall.
Reasoning sets in as they clear their eyes of the last of their tears. Even if he was well-intentioned, he did sorta… take them. Grab them up and stick them in a pocket. If some giant had done that to him, he’d be pretty scared, too.
“Do you understand me?” he tries. The tiny head snaps up, and the kid babbles something that vaguely sounds like sorry and don’t hurt. “No, no, I promise I’m not gonna hurt you… Fuck. I was — I was just tryna keep you safe!” It’s hard to read lips on such a small face, but he gets the gist of it, and it hurts like hell.
This isn’t working out so great. “Let’s start over, okay? I’m Clint. Clint Barton. And I — I can’t hear you all that well.”
That gets them to shut up. The fear disappears from their face, replaced by sheer bewilderment.  (Yeah. As if they’re the one that should be surprised.) They scrub their eyes and stare at him in awe, and Clint can’t help but chuckle. “Weird, I know. But we can figure somethin’ out, alright? You okay to talk? Or just… shake your head, yes or no.”
That gets a timid nod. “Great. Good. Not hurt, are you?” A shake. “Thank God for that.” Now we’re getting somewhere. But Clint needs to ask them questions, and he needs to get answers. How is he supposed to talk to someone smaller than his finger?
His mind is racing. Sign language! It’s a long shot, but just maybe he can get through to them.
“Do you understand this?” His hands move slow, just in case. But it doesn’t go the way he’s hoping. The borrower shrieks and falls back, and they’re both back to square one. “No, hey, wait! It’s okay!” He signs while he speaks, and the kid watches every move he makes with terrified eyes. “Look — it’s a language! My name is Clint. C-L-I-N-T.” Each letter is deliberate, and with each second, the little guy uncurls from their protective ball. “Now that I’ve told you my name, will you tell me yours?”
They both fall silent. He holds his breath and watches the tiny face with a furrowed brow. It’s small, almost impossible to see, but there’s a hint of hope in their eyes. He’s so overcome with joy that he doesn’t notice them open their mouth.
   “...ig.”
   He freezes. “Sorry, what?”
They wither back. “Brig,” they say, louder this time. Their voice is muffled and nervous, but it’s there. And Clint can’t stop himself from smiling.
“Brig,” he repeats. “That’s B-R-I-G. See?” He grins. They’re still cautious, but they watch his hands with curious eyes as he signs their name. “It’s nice to meet you, Brig.”
Good! This is good. Clint can see them coming out of their shell, little by little. They look unsure, but their hands twitch in time with his. “There’s so much you can say with just your hands! This is hello, and this is goodbye. Yes, no, please and thank you— I can teach you, if you want!”
The magic is gone, and Brig snaps back into their defensive huddle. “T-teach me?” they squeak. “But… would mean…” They glance around the kitchen, eyes widening as they take in the sight. They’re so small compared to everything else. “What about… home?”
He’s overstepped his boundaries. He kneels to get closer to their level. They reel back, a gesture that goes unnoticed in his concern. “Was that where you live?” he asks. “Near where the fight was?”
They’re quick to nod. “Left… a bit,” they say. “Rats.” The last syllable is loud, clear, and bitter. “Got caught… the fight.” Brig shrugs, looking nervous and embarrassed. “And by you.”
Clint frowns. A place like that is dangerous for someone of their size, but he’s in no place to argue. “Is there anyone you stay with? Any family or friends you can go back to?”
Now they’re silent. His heart plummets when they grimace and look away, a sadness creeping into their eyes. Realization crashes over him when they shake their head.
   He hadn’t thought of that.
“You don’t have to stay,” he says gently. Guilt lingers in his chest as he leans back, too, suddenly self conscious about his hands. “I-I can get you back home if you need me too — I can’t imagine it’s all that safe, but if that’s what you want…” The borrower is tense, and Clint is cursing himself for being so hopeful.
Finally, after a minute of mulling it over, he gives a resigned sigh. “Damage Control is cleaning the place up,” he tells them. “They should be done in a week or two, okay? You can stay with me, but when they’re done… I’ll bring you back.” Every word hurts more than the last. “Only if you want to. How’s that sound?”
The kitchen falls silent. Clint’s heart is beating fast, and he bites his tongue as conflicting emotions flicker across the tiny face. “I-I can bring you back now, if you like,” he stammers. “Ya don’t have to stay. A-and you don’t have to tell me exactly where you live, but I can just drop you off and you can be on your way and we’ll b —”
   “I’ll stay.”
This time, the little voice comes out strong. “You — you will?” he says.
They nod shyly in response, and he can piece together what they say next: “Just… back… my feet.” Just until I’m back on my feet.
   He can live with that.
Clint’s heart swells with triumph. He can’t remember the last time he was this happy. There’s no explaining why he feels this way. “O-Okay. Awesome. Welcome home, Brig.”
He glances back at the mess in his apartment, then to the mess of his clothes, too. They’re both covered in dust and blood, but neither care about it as Clint laughs. “We should probably get cleaned up first, though. What do you say?”
He’s smiling. And for the first time all day, Brig is smiling, too.
They’ve got a lot of work to do.
