--------------------------------------------------
Y/n sat staring at the star studded cast in front of her at the reading table. Scarlett Johansson, Robert Downey Jr., Tom Holland, Elizabeth Olsen. It was wild all the people she had spent her whole life looking up to, and here she was, about to film a whole Marvel movie with them.
This was new territory for her too. A whole new genre of movie, different from the horror movies she was known for. The rest of the cast didn’t watch her movies so they didn’t know how she worked.
“Y/n? You okay?” Chris Evans asked waving his hand around in front of her face. “You zoned out there.” He added softly to the teen who flushed slightly and nodded looking down at her hands. “Have you done enough reading now? Are you ready to get into costume and makeup?”
Y/n paused for a moment picking at her fingers before she looked up and nodded. “Yeah. Ill go get ready. I’ll see you guys tomorrow?” She took a quick glance around at everyone who shot her small nods before she disappeared. When she finally came to set, fully ready for her scene, her manager waved her over.
“Okay… lets get this over with guys.” She said, her manager chuckling at the bored look on the teenagers face that was currently covered in bruises and blood, her clothes hanging off of the girls frail body, a gash across her face where a scar usually sat on her characters face.
She was filming her background scene, how her character, Maddison, got where she was, fighting with the Avengers. The torture and pain the character had gone through obvious with the way she was dressed. “Alright you, are you ready to scream?” Thomas asked the girl with a grimace, knowing what he had to pretend to do to the girl. She nodded and stepped on to the set, a cold damp cell that had red splatter all over one wall, showing what she was supposed to have gone through. Thomas stepped forward, the director getting ready for filming, unknown to the teen, the rest of her cast mates stepped in to the studio, hiding in the shadows.
Scarlett elbowed a nervous looking Lizzie who motioned to the makeup on the girls face, the blonde shook her head slightly motioning to be quiet with a finger to her lips. Evans eyes widened as he studied the gash on the girls face. They all knew it was makeup, but as they had grown protective of the young girl, it scared them all. The all focused in on the girl when the director called action.
--Filming scene--
Maddison, a 13 year old girl who had been kidnapped by Baron Strucker at the age of 5, sat huddled against the bloody wall, her whole body shaking as she slowly lifted her head, a giant gash across her face, towards the man standing in front of her. The man merely raised his hand that held a ragged, rusty dagger and slashed down at the girl, her face getting slashed.
The girl let out a blood curdling scream, a scream so loud it even made Strucker take a step back out of shock. The man then turned on his heel and slammed the cell door closed whispering to the girl. “No one will ever want someone as disgusting as you.”
--Scene over--
The director called cut and y/n stood up and with a lack of emotion on her face and grabbed her water bottle. She had barely gotten a sip of it when she was collided with, a pair of arms wrapping around her, gripping her tightly. The teen squeaked as she tried to move the blonde hair to see the horrified look of all her adult castmates standing around her. She patted the back of what she assumed to be Scarlett with a look of confusion running across her face.
“What was that?” Mark asked as he nervously twisted his hands. “How did you bring that up? That was so real…”
“What do you mean?” Y/n asked as Scarlett finally pulled back. “I’m confused?”
“It was very convincing sounding darling.” The actress said, one hand not leaving the teens arm. “Are you okay?”
“Oh. I’m fine?” She responded. “I did- have you guys never seen any of my movies?”
RDJ looked at the girl sheepishly. “Your movies are intense kid… theyre a little scary for most of us.” The teen barked out a laugh shaking her head.
“My whole career I’ve only done horror movies, that scream just is what it is at this point. Nothing behind it, just 5 years of perfecting it.” She said with a small shrug and a small smirk on her face.
“Jesus kid, you gave us a heart attack as a whole.” Hemsworth chuckled as he ruffled the girls hair making the teen roll her eyes with a small smile as she was called back to the set.

We’re Terrible Influences
Paring: Avengers Cast (Sebastian Stan, Chris Evans, Anthony Mackie, Scarlett Johanson) x Reader
Summary: Part of the Civil War cast throw a 21st birthday party for you
Warning: drinking, swearing, hints of anxiety, drunk reader, WE GET SAD
A/N: Flufftober Day 4, this was fun
Tumblr media
“SURPRISE!!!”
“You have got to be kidding me”
You looked at the three men boys in front of you; Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan, and Chris Evans. They had the goofiest smile on their faces, one holding a birthday hat, the other a sash, and a shot glass with clear liquid in it. “I told you guys multiple times I didn’t want a party.”
"We know," Chris said, "and we don't want to force you to do this." he continued. "But it's your 21st birthday, and if you don't get drunk then you are doing it wrong." Sebastian continued. "Actually I'm doing it right because I'm not pushing my body's limits-"
"NOPE! You don't get to be smart tonight. that can continue tomorrow. Tonight you get to have fun and get drunk with your favorite people in the world." Anthony said as he tried to hand you the clear glass.
"I told you no. The only reason I came over was for the birthday movie night we had planned." You said you try to push past the guys. But they weren’t having it and blocked you out.
“What’s going on? Are you nervous or something? Cause we are all very responsible adults.” Chris said as the three men have you the cheesiest thumbs up, making you laugh.
“It’s not that, I promise. I just don’t want to.” You said as you started subconsciously rubbing your thumb over your hand, a telltale sign that you were holding something back.
“No you are doing the thumb thing; what’s on your mind,” Seb said as he took one of your hands and held it. “I don’t know how I’m going to act when I’m drunk.” You said as you felt yourself exhale.
“So?” Chris asked. “So, I don’t want you to see me when I get to that point. I don’t know if I’m going to be happy, giggly, sad, or throwing up over the toilet.” The boys looked at each other before laughing a bit. You slapped each of their chests. “This isn’t funny, plus we have work in the morning. So there is also a valid reason as to why we can’t do this.” Anthony grabbed his phone before showing you a text message from Joe Russo
“Tell Y/n we took her off the call sheet for tomorrow. I don’t want to be emotionally responsible for her not having a 21st birthday party.”
You looked back at the boys as they all looked at you with raised eyebrows. You contemplated for a bit before holding out your pinky. “You promise that no matter how I turn out tonight if I get to that point, you will take care of me and have no judgment?” You said very seriously. They each took a free pinky and wrapped it around yours. “We promise,” Seb said as you all let go. You took a Breathe before reaching for the hat and sash. “Here goes nothing,” you said as you took the glass from Anthony's hand and took the shot. “yeah/Woo/let's go!” The boy said as you handed the glass back and started coughing. “That taste disgusting.” You said.
“You never had a shot before?” Anthony asked as you all walked into the house. It was at Chris’s AirBnB in Atlanta. “I have but I’m still not used to it.” You said as you walked into the living room. You saw that Scarlett was also there.
“Okay birthday girl, what do you want for your first drink?” Seb said ask we walked towards a counter that had tons of liquor, seltzers, juices, and beers on it. “Surprise me.” You said as you looked at Scarlett. She came over and gave you a hug. “Happy Birthday my love, are you ready?” Scarlet said as she fixed the hat on your head. “Ready as I’ll ever be.” You look towards Seb as he walked over with two drinks in hand and gave you one.
“What’s in this?” You said and you sniffed the top. “Vodka and Cranberry, a simple drink,” Sebastian said. You took a sip from it. It wasn’t too bad. “So we doing beer pong, kings cup, what the plan?” You asked.
“We are going to start off with Never have I ever. If you have done it you take a sip, and every 5 sips you take a shot.” Chris said as he brought over the Tito and shot glasses. “That sounds like I’m going to get drunk fast.” You said he placed them down at the table. “Well yeah, that’s the point,” Anthony said.
“Not fair. As the birthday girl, I think after this we need to play a game where everyone has a chance to get a little tipsy.” You said as you sat down on the velvet couch. “Okay, after this we will do truth or dare,” Scarlett said. “Good! Then let’s begin” you said as you took a sip of your drink.
4 hours later (all I will say about what happened is they found out you are not a virgin, you did drunk Karaoke with Seb, and you told them about your crush on a crew member)
“We are terrible influences, aren't we?” Sebastian said to the two friends standing next to him as they looked at you on the couch, drunk out of your mind. You were currently leaning against Scarlett as she was running her hands through your hair. “We are, but that’s our job,” Chris said.
“This was the best night EVER! Why didn’t anyone tell me it was this fun to drink?” You said as you looked at the boys, swaying a little. “I want more; this is Great.” You said as you tried to get up but you barely got off before Scarlett pushed you back down. "nope. you are officially cut off. You are out of it sweetie." Scarlett said as she rubbed your back now.
"Wait you want another shot?" Seb said as looked at the two girls. your eyes lit up like fireworks while Scarlett just gave him a look that could kill. "Please Sebby I want it." You gave him your best puppy eyes. "Of course sweetie. Anything for the birthday girl," he said as he walked back over to the counter. Chris followed after.
"You aren't actually going to give her another shot, right? Cause she is pretty out of it dude." He said as Sebastian grabbed a plastic shot glass. He took it to the sink and filled the shot glass with water as he looked at Chris. "Of course not. But if there is one thing I have learned from...Tom Holland..god I can't believe I said that." he said as Chris laughed. "is that when his friends are drunk, he gives them shots of water if they really want more but can't take more alcohol." he said as they walked back over to you.
"You guys are the bestest friends EVER! like 10 times better than anyone. I love you all so much." you told your friends. "we love you too kiddo. now come on, last shot of the night for the birthday girl!" Anthony said as he and Scarlett help you sit up. Sebastian handed you the shot glass which you took in your grabby hands. "GIMME GIMME GIMME," you said like a kid with cake. you down the water fast as your friends look at you with goofy grins on their faces. You looked at Seb with one of your famous 'death glares'
"You gave me water you bitch." you said in a serious tone. The others around you couldn't keep their snickers in as they all let out a laugh. "I said I wanted another shot." Your head fell back onto Scarlett's shoulder. "I know sweetie," he said as he sat cross-legged in front of you on the couch. "technically I did get you a shot because you didn't specify you wanted alcohol in it." You moved your legs so you were crisscrossed as well. You put your elbows on your knees as your hands went under your chin.
"I want vodka," you said as you looked into Sebastian's Blue eyes. He copied your movement and put his hands under his chin. "Not going to happen." He replied with a smirk. Chris just laughed and made his way over to you. "Okay, time to bed Squish," he said and he tried to get you to stand up. you pushed one of your hands in front of his mouth, never losing eye content with Seb.
"I'm in the middle of a very important negotiation right now Chris," you said as confidently as you could, although it only came out as a slurred mess. He took your hand off his mouth and wiped it on your sweatpants. "No, because you made us pinky promise that we take care of you if you got to this point, didn't you?" You turned to look at Chris and felt your eyes well up. you nodded your head as you wrapped your arm around Chris's neck. "You guys are so nice to me," you said as you let tears out onto his shoulder.
This came as a shock to them as you barely ever cry. You only ever let your guard down around people you really trust. Chris was the only one who has seen you like this. Chris sighed as he looked at his castmates. "Okay, now it's officially time for bed." He took one of your arms and helped you up. your whole body felt heavy and all you wanted to do was nap. You leaned into Chris's side as you felt him put his arm around your shoulders.
"why are you guys leaving?" you said as you saw them head toward the door. "We have work in the morning cupcake, but we had a fun time tonight. Happy Birthday." Anthony said as he rubbed your arm. Scarlett gave you a hug and said happy birthday as well. "Goodnight my favorite 21-year-old," Seb said as he kissed the top of your head that was resting on Chris's shoulder. You look back up at Chris with a tear running down your cheek. "Are you leaving me too?" you asked.
"Nope, don't worry about that now. Come on, I'm putting you in the guest room," he said as the two of you started to walk down the hall. "Did you have fun tonight?" Chris asked. Your eyes lit up again. "It was SOO much fun. Did you know Sebbie could SING? Cause he is really good." Right now you were in between your happy and sad drunk stage, which made conversations very hard for Chris. "I didn't but it was very fun indeed." He pushed open the door to the guest room as he help you get under the covers "it was sad when they all has to leave though." you could see your eyes getting cloudy with tears again. "I know Squish but we have to work tomorrow. But you don't need to, so you get to sleep in," he said as he pushed your hair back. You didn't come to the point of throwing up, but he put a bucket next to you and turned you on your side just in case.
"Can you promise to never leave me?" you asked Chris. He just looked at you with a sad face. He became a very important part of your life over the last couple of years of knowing him. "I can do my best sweetie," he said as he continued to stroke your hair back. You snuggled deeper into the sheets until you felt his hand move off your face. He started to head out the door before he heard a voice behind him.
"Stay, Chris?" you said as you reached out a hand, which took a lot of effort to do. He gave you a sympathetic smile that you couldn't see but you felt his hand intertwine with yours. You let out a sigh as you smiled happily. You two stayed quiet, you still weren't asleep quite yet but were on the verge of falling. "Thank you Chris for the best birthday ever," you said as you finally slipped into dreamland. "Happy birthday Y/n" Chris smiled proudly at you. He gave you a kiss on the forehead before retreating back to his own room.

Here's an example for these kind of fan fic:
Infinity war cast x short!insecure!rader
Summary: Reader is 4'11 and insecure about it but her cast mates and fans show her that she's beautiful.
Warrings: None
A/N: Reader here uses she/her pronouns. Also english isn't my first lamguage so I'm sorry for my grammar.
-----------
Y/N Y/L/N had always been self-conscious about her height. At 4'11, she often felt like she was constantly overlooked and underestimated, especially in the cutthroat world of Hollywood. But when she landed a role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, she knew that she had to put her insecurities aside and bring her A-game.
At the Infinity War panel, Y/N was nervous. She had never been in front of such a large audience before, and she was worried that her height would be a topic of ridicule. But as she took her place on stage alongside her fellow cast members, she was surprised to hear them all gushing about how much they loved her petite stature.
"Y/N is a powerhouse, despite her size," Chris Evans said, earning cheers from the audience. "She's got more energy and spunk than any of us combined."
Robert Downey Jr. chimed in, "And let's not forget how easy it is to maneuver her around during fight scenes. It's like having a little ninja on set."
Y/N blushed, feeling grateful and relieved that her height was being celebrated rather than criticized. And the positive feedback didn't stop there. As she walked around the convention center, fans approached her to tell her how much they loved her portrayal of her character and how they admired her confidence and talent.
But perhaps the most memorable moment of the day was when Tom Holland, her mischievous co-star, snuck up behind her and lifted her off the ground, spinning her around in a playful prank. The crowd erupted in laughter, and Y/N couldn't help but join in.
In that moment, Y/N realized that her height wasn't something to be ashamed of. It was a part of who she was, and it made her unique and memorable. She felt a newfound sense of confidence and pride in herself and her abilities, and she knew that she had the support of her cast and fans behind her.
From that day forward, Y/N Y/L/N embraced her height and all the quirks and challenges that came with it. And as she continued to shine on screen and in public appearances, she inspired others to do the same, proving that sometimes the things that make us different are the very things that make us great.

Tumblr media Tumblr media
JULY 1992
The sun had begun to set and yet the warmth of the day still lingered. The glow of the street lamps cast an amber hue on the pavement, outlining the familiar houses that lined the quiet street. The air was filled with the scent of summer, a blend of fresh grass and the distant fragrance of blooming flowers. In one of the houses on the street, a family gathered in their backyard for a summer evening barbecue. The smell of sizzling burgers and sweet barbecue sauce wafted through the air, and the faint laughter of children chasing each other echoed, while the adults lounged and swapped stories.
Meanwhile, across the field, two girls were beneath the sprawling branches of a willow tree. A patchwork quilt, covering a section of flattened grass, held a tea set long forgotten as they had rounded the thick trunk, the littlest one already perched on the wooden swing.
“Push me higher, Natty!” You exclaimed, voice full of glee. You were only a small girl with wild hair and a toothy grin, but your spirit was boundless.
Natalia smiled brightly, her own eyes sparkling with joy at her friend's excitement. “You’re already so high you could see the Empire State Building.” She teased, her laughter blending with the sound of chirping crickets amongst the long grass in the distance.
“I know!” The wind whipped against your face, and you couldn’t help but let out a joyous laugh.
Inseparable since Natalia moved in next door, your friendship blossomed under the protective branches of the willow tree across the street, where a swing hung proudly in the breeze. Its gentle leaves whispered secrets that only the two of you could hear, dreams of the future etched upon its bark, as unadulterated laughter rang true with its sway.
She whistled as your head swung back, the carefree spirit of the summer evening enveloping her in its warm embrace. And as she gazed up at the tree’s opening, she found twinkling stars above and the imaginary distant silhouette of the Empire State Building visible on the horizon. She couldn't help but feel a sense of wonder at the vastness of the world she had yet to see.
"Whoa, this is amazing." You shouted, feeling your stomach drop with each swoop. "Let’s swing all the way to the moon!"
“Maybe not the moon,” She pushed harder, her hands gripping the thick plank of wood beneath you, “But let’s try for the stars."
You shouted with as much euphemism as your little body could handle as the swing reached its peak. Weightless under its motion, you were suspended between the sky and the ground.
An angel flung out of space.
"I can almost touch the stars!"
She smiled. Despite her hands being rubbed red raw from rope burn, she was happy. She was always happy to be with you. While she had her younger sister, Yelena, whom she cared for deeply, it wasn't the same as having you. A friendship of her own creation. She yearned for the summer days when she could run around like a child with you.
“That’s good, that means you’re almost home, little star.” She shouted, her accent slipping out ever so subtly.
Carefully, your hand stretched toward the night sky – a poor attempt to touch the boiling balls of gas above.
You both were happy.
It’s sad what became of you both.
All too soon, reality intruded once more. The distant sound of a heavy door opening cut through the air, a gentle reminder that all good things must come to an end. With a final push, Nat stepped back and held onto the plank, commanding it to a halt. She knew what was coming.
At first, you didn’t notice her disappear around the wide trunk. But the gentle clink of pottery against one another told you enough as you followed in her footsteps.
“Natalia,” You whined, hands on your waist at the sight of the older girl cleaning up. “No, it’s your turn to swing.”
A whistle pierced the air, its familiar shrill sound gaining both of your attention. The sound of home time. “Natalia, come. Time to go.” Her mother’s voice carried just as loud, urging the redhead to leave playtime behind.
She turned to you, her expression softening as she looked down at your smaller frame. With a mixture of reluctance and understanding, she pulled you into a tight embrace, the warmth of her arms wrapped around you, the gentle press of her lips against your forehead lingered for a moment before she released you and ran off into the gathering dusk.
Alone now, you watched as the field fell silent, the only sound being of the insects hidden in the dark. The swing on the other side croaked gently in response to the light breeze and the redhead’s swift departure. For a moment, you considered sitting on it, perhaps pushing yourself back and forth on the points of your feet. Instead, you find yourself standing there: the absence of your best friend ever so palpable, a void that sunk deep into your bones.
Without Natalia by your side, the swing held little allure, and you decided to make your way back home. With your large basket in hand, you reached your own doorstep and paused, casting one last glance towards the girl’s house. The lights were on inside, casting a warm glow against the darkness outside.
You almost missed it, but a glimpse of red hair appeared out the window, followed by a hand waving at you. As soon as you waved back, she was gone. Window shut. Curtains drawn.
You went to bed with a cheesy grin plastered on your face.
You’ll see her again tomorrow.
--
AUGUST 1997
“Natalia, stop fighting me on this. You look like a popsicle.” You laughed and shoved the girl playfully from where you were sitting against the willow tree.
“It's cool.” She defended, as her hand tugged at her blue-dyed ends.
The years had rolled by, but the memories of that swing under the willow tree lingered on in your heart. As the seasons changed, so did your life. You made new friends, explored different interests, and navigated the tumultuous journey of adolescence. Being older than you, Natalia was already in high school, but she didn’t go to any in the district, as she was home-schooled and sometimes had to leave for a while. She never really told you why.
Even so, your bond deepened and an unspoken connection developed between you both. Under the tree's comforting shade, you discovered a warmth in your heart that went beyond friendship. Those lazy summer afternoons spent laughing, dreaming, and sharing secrets created a bond that you wanted to explore further.
You’d never felt like this before for anyone.
Only Natalia.
Life as a pre-teen was so confusing.
You snorted, “Yeah, okay, you leave for a month and come back with half of your hair a different colour.”
But it wasn't just the hair colour that captivated you. It was the way she carried herself - a wisdom wise beyond her years. She was the same goofy redhead of course - her eyes sparkled with mischief when she laughed at you, her hand held the same warmth in yours as you walked together. But there was something else lurking beneath, a sadness more notable than her usual melancholy. You noticed the slight furrow in her brow, the way her fingers tapped nervously against each other.
Something was weighing on her mind, something significant. So, you asked, “What’s wrong?”
She let out such a soft sigh that you almost missed it.
“I’m leaving.”
Dread washed over you, and a knot formed in your stomach. "Again?"
She had just returned the other day. Your mind raced with questions and uncertainty and the tears already clustered your lash line. You, a child with no need to mask her emotions, no need to hide her soul, unlike Natalia, who always seemed to carry the weight of the world on her shoulders, her laughter always accompanied by a subtle sadness, as if she were trying to conceal her true feelings behind a façade of cheerfulness. But today, as she sat you down with a gentle tug, her eyes betraying a mixture of resolve and sorrow, you sensed that she could no longer hide what she'd been keeping inside.
"It's for good this time," she murmured, her gaze fixed on the ground as if unable to meet your eyes. "My parents want to go back to Russia. They don’t like it here.”
Though unspoken, you sensed the weight of what she meant. They don't like you. It stung, a silent acknowledgement of the barriers you've fallen blind to. The odd glances from her mother, the subtle disapproval from her younger sister—all pieces of a puzzle you've tried to ignore.
Her admission hung heavy in the air, the reality of separation sinking in with each passing moment. She drew closer, her delicate fingers brushing away the tears that cascaded down your cheeks. You lifted your gaze to meet hers, noticing the weariness etched into her features, the telltale signs of tears already shed hours before.
“I’ll miss you.” She whispered, forehead flushed against yours, before leaning down to kiss the corner of your lips. An almost kiss. One of many shared underneath the cover of the willow tree.
You tasted saltiness and noticed the fresh tears that had now sprung from her eyes.
“I'll miss you too. Forever.”
The next morning, you stood outside her house, as the sun cast long shadows over their lawn. It was your last full day together so you arrived bright and early, not wanting to waste any time. You reached out to knock on the door, but your hand hovered, hesitant. The house remained still, as if holding its breath, waiting for something that would never come. You glanced around, searching for any sign of life, but the windows stared back at you blankly, revealing nothing but darkness within.
“Natty?”
 Nothing.
A sinking feeling gnawed at your stomach as you realized they must've left in the night, slipping away like shadows fleeing from the dawn. The same way they joined this neighbourhood.
With a heavy heart, you turned away from the empty house, feeling as if a piece of your soul had been torn away with their departure. The world already seemed colder, lonelier, devoid of her warmth and laughter that once filled it.
In the days that followed, you found yourself drawn to the tree – yours and Natalia’s safe haven. You sat there, surrounded by memories, as the rope swayed in the wind - empty and forlorn. Though still magical, the willow tree could no longer shield you from the loneliness that settled in your heart, as the summer months stretched on endlessly, a blur of empty hours filled with longing and regret.
That night, you slept with a permanent frown, a puddle of tears staining your pillow.
You won’t see her again tomorrow.
--
APRIL 2001
From afar, she looked different. Almost unrecognisable.
Eighteen years old and she was here: barely an adult yet taller and slimmer, with a cascade of auburn curls framing her face that replaced the short blue hair you remembered. The years had engraved themselves onto her, carving the once-round face into a pointed visage that spoke of both experience and loss.
Just as beautiful as you remembered.
You sat on the swing under the tree with a book in hand, lost in its pages until light danced between the branches and a flicker of movement caught your attention. Glancing up, you froze as you saw her across the street.
Natalia?
Your heart quickened its pace, memories flooding back in a torrent. But this woman was different. She’d changed. She’d grown.
She noticed you too, her gaze locking onto yours for a moment. There's a flicker of recognition, a spark of something in those eyes. For a heartbeat, it feels like time hasn't passed, like you're still the same two little girls taking on the world together. But then, just as quickly as the connection formed, she averted her gaze, choosing instead to continue on her journey. She walked with purpose, footsteps marching in a steady rhythm that both connected and distanced her from you. She couldn’t get caught up with you. She had a job to do.
Realising she was going to walk away, you pushed yourself off the swing, a mix of hope and nerves swirling inside you as you discarded the book somewhere in the grass.
None of that mattered. Natalia was here. She was back.
“Hey, wait!” You shouted, practically running after her. You reached out to grab her wrist, but she jerked away, shoving you back a few steps with surprising force.
Up close, the difference was unquestionable.
The once soft and kind Natalia had evolved into a hardened version of herself, sharpened by strong fists. Her eyes once filled with innocence, now harbour shadows of pain and resilience. She exuded an aura of toughness, and a guarded silence had replaced the laughter that used to be a melody in her voice.
“Natalia? What are you doing here?” You inquired, tentatively closing the gap between you both. You watched as she winced at her name falling from your lips.
And yet, this time, she didn’t evade your touch. Her hand trembled slightly as it met yours, eyes fluttering shut for a moment. In that fleeting silence, you took in the toll life has taken on her. Her arms bear the marks of countless scars, remnants of battles fought in shadows, and bruises of varying hues.
“What happened to your arms?” Your voice is gentle, a soft inquiry borne out of concern.
But, the sudden confrontation had her retreating into herself, defences rising once more like impenetrable walls. You mustn’t know. She could never do that to you. “Let go.” She demanded sharply, her tone cutting through the air like a knife.
Caught off guard, you hesitated for a moment, unsure of how to proceed, but that’s long enough for her to decide to rip her hand out of yours, sharp and abrupt.
“Are you okay?” Your voice was barely a whisper as you watched her practically flee, disappearing around the corner of the street.
 You don’t follow her.

OCTOBER 2012
Funny how throughout life, fate seemed to play a game with you, pulling Natalia in and out of your orbit like a cosmic dance.
At twenty-seven, you found yourself entrenched in the fast-paced world of trauma nursing. After the arduous journey through medical school, you packed your bags and set your sights on the East Coast. New York City welcomed you with open arms, its vibrant chaos becoming the backdrop to your new life. From your boss’s office window, the silhouette of the Empire State Building stood tall, a symbol of strength amidst the chaos below.
You thrived in this environment, relishing in the opportunity to connect with and assist people in their most vulnerable moments. The adrenaline rush of the emergency room, the delicate balance between life and death—it fuelled you in ways nothing else could. Not since that summer night. Not since you tried to touch the stars.
Today, however, the hospital was enveloped in an air of secrecy and quiet urgency. Paramedics had rushed in with a new patient a few hours ago, shrouded in mystery as they were rushed straight into surgery. Usually, you're first on-site with incoming patients but you had been busy working your rounds to be able to assist, and there were enough on the trauma team – with the security clearance - to handle such a situation.
Stopping by the bedside of your oldest patient, Mrs. Dinton, you smiled sweetly. “Hey, Mrs Dinton. How are we today?”
"Ah, there you are, dearie," she said, her voice crackling with age. "I was just telling Nurse Molly here about the delightful hospital pudding they serve on Wednesdays. It's simply divine, don't you think?"
You chuckled softly, waving a hello to your colleague. "I'm afraid I'm not much of a fan, Mrs. Dinton. But I'm glad to hear you're enjoying it."
She laughed, a sound like tinkling bells. "Oh, well, means more for me then."
Before you could continue the conversation – could reprimand the elderly woman about how she needs to watch her sugar intake - Dr. Cho appeared at your side, her expression serious. "Excuse me, ladies. But, Nurse Y/N, is needed elsewhere." She says kindly but with a hint of urgency, no room for questioning. You and Dr. Cho were great friends, having graduated med school together and now working at the same hospital.
“What is it, Helen?” You asked, following her footsteps out the ward, navigating the labyrinthine hallways of the hospital.
“I’ve been assigned postoperative care for the Jane Doe and I want you with me...” Your heart dropped at the mention of the mystery woman.
All day, the hushed tones and covert glances exchanged among your colleagues hinted at the gravity of the situation. Their whispers that followed you through the hospital corridors spoke of a failed suicide attempt. While the hospital had sadly seen its share of such cases, this one was different – a Jane Doe, requiring an unusual degree of privacy.
“…while I don’t know any more than you about what happened, I trust you the most to help me with her. So I got you clearance. Go grab us a pair of gloves, I’ll meet you inside.” Helen finished with a nod before entering the private wing.
You donned your own pair of latex and made your way back to the private wing, the click of your shoes echoing down the corridor. The atmosphere was thick with anticipation and concern. The weight of the unknown pressed upon you as you approached the room where the troubled soul awaited treatment. Few years being a trauma nurse, you had seen it all… but not a Jane Doe. Never a Jane Doe.
Upon entering, you found Helen already studying the patient's chart. The subdued lighting in the room cast a sombre mood, and the machines hummed softly in the background. The Jane Doe was laid on the hospital bed, head secured in a neck brace and a tube down her throat, a silent testament to the ordeal she had endured.
“Thanks,” Helen whispered, making her way over to retrieve her gloves. "I've gone through everything in the notes. The attempt was pretty severe."
You nodded, taking in the gravity of the situation. The silence was broken only by the soft beeping of the monitors as you both began your work. Each movement was deliberate, and each procedure executed with precision and empathy. You adjusted the IV drip, checked the vital signs, and made sure everything was in order.
Sometime later, Helen had left, her pager going off as her presence was needed with another incoming patient.  The room seemed to hold its breath, but it was only you. The machine to your right, making sure the woman was still breathing.
You read over her notes once more.
“Female, 5’7…” You ramble aimlessly to no one as you find yourself unable to voice the rest.
The laceration on her neck caught your attention. The wound stretched across her delicate skin, a jagged seam where the surgeons' skilled hands had meticulously stitched the deep gash closed. The edges of the cut were puckered slightly, evidence of the trauma dealt with by the knife paramedics found next to her unconscious body. Judging by the shape, it seemed like she plunged rather than sliced, the offending weapon, then, pulled out instead of left inside. She was quite malnourished, her cheeks hollowed out, collarbone visible as the gown drowned her thin figure. She lacked a sufficient amount of muscle. You wondered how someone could go unnoticed without eating for several days. It was as if she had become a ghost, fading away in plain sight.
The woman looked ill - eyes sunken with abnormally pale skin. Drifting down her body, you noticed her legs. A horrified gasp threatened to leave your lips.  Raised red lines covered the expanse of her legs, some scabbed up, some clear burn marks that had turned into blisters. Her arms were just as bad, marred with a history of wounds that ran from her wrists to her shoulders.
Behind all the equipment, her face was almost unrecognisable. Her hair was what stood out the most, the auburn curls matted with blood. A sense of familiarity washed over you, the red striking your curiosity.
You couldn't tear your gaze away as you watched her stir. Unsure if she was waking or simply moving unconsciously, you remained still, not wanting to startle her. But then her face contorted with pain, and her lashes began to flutter open.
The sheets rustled as she tried to turn, her discomfort evident from the way she struggled against the tubes and wires tethering her to the medical machinery. You couldn't help but feel a pang of sympathy for her, lying there in such a vulnerable state. No identity. No family to be there for her.
"Stay still, please.” You whispered softly, stepping closer to her bedside. “You're in the hospital. You’re safe."
Her eyes, clouded with pain and confusion, met yours for a fleeting moment before flickering away. She seemed to be trying to process where she was and what had happened.
“Paramedics found you unconscious and rushed you in.” You explained gently, hoping to offer some semblance of clarity amidst the chaos of her thoughts. “You had a wound to the neck. We’ve managed to close it, so don’t move around too much. Otherwise, you might open the stitches.”
Her gaze drifted back to you, and for a moment there was a flicker of recognition in her eyes. It was fleeting, gone almost as quickly as it had appeared, but it was enough to make your heart skip a beat.
You saw as she went to speak, only to find pain and a heavy weight against her tongue. “Careful. You shouldn’t try to speak yet. We’re not sure how much damage has been done to your vocal cords.”
As if she didn’t hear you, she continued fidgeting, fighting against the intrusion in her mouth, panic overriding.
“Hey, listen to me,” you coaxed, voice soft but firm, your hand reaching out to settle over hers, the glove long forgotten. “I need you to calm down, please. You’re going to be okay. You just need to rest your voice.”
Her eyes darted to you, wide with fear and frustration, and you squeezed her hand gently, offering what little comfort you could.
“It’s going to be alright, just take slow breaths. Focus on that.” You started to breathe deeply, deliberately, hoping she'd follow your lead. Inhale... exhale... in a steady rhythm, like waves lapping against the shore
As you continued to focus on stabilising her breathing, your eyes inadvertently met hers, and in that moment, you were drawn into the depths of those vibrant green orbs. They held a world of pain, swirling like a tempestuous storm beneath the surface. Yet, amidst the turmoil, there's a glimmer of familiarity that tugged at the corners of your memory.
There’s something about her you can’t make sense of.
Why does she look so familiar? Who is she?
“Do I know you?” You almost asked, but then suddenly, the door to the waiting room clicked open, and Helen strode in, her expression wavering as she noticed the woman awake. “She’s awake already?!” Shock and bewilderment visible on her face.
She advanced, quickly spewing off questions in your direction, as her eyes narrowed in on the woman, assessing her condition with a quick, practised glance.
"She's awake, a little panicked about being in a hospital, but also a bit disoriented," you explained, voice calm despite the urgency of the situation. "Vitals are stable for now.”
With that, you stepped away, dropping her hand you had forgotten you were still holding, as Helen went to introduce herself. Your lunch break was coming up and before you could turn to leave the room, Helen stopped you. "Thank you for staying with her," she said softly, "There was a car accident. Two little girls rushed in for surgery. They needed me."
You nodded in understanding. You couldn’t fault her. Every day seemed to bring a new challenge, a new story, and today was no different. This Jane Doe was no different.
Before you could delve deeper into your thoughts, she interrupted, “Anyways, I’m here now and pager is off,” she drew your attention to the device in her pocket, “Boss’s order...  now go take your lunch break.”
With a small smile, you left the room, the door softly closing behind you. Walking down the hallways, your mind buzzed with curiosity about the woman. Her face – those eyes - nagged at the edges of your memory, like a puzzle waiting to be solved.
Where do I know you from, Jane Doe?

It's Not A Phase

Summary: You've been dating Wanda for a while now, long enough that she wants to introduce you to the Avengers. Common room photos, however, reveal a side to her that you'd never seen before... a certain emo side.
Word Count: 1288
Pairing: Wanda Maximoff x Reader
Warnings: mentions of killing people, but generally just fluff!
A/N: you can blame @family-house-of-m for this one

Very few things in this world feel as untouchable, unobtainable, and awe-inspiring as this; the architecture of the tower is symbolic, in a way, touching the sky like a beacon of hope.
But from where you stand in the street, dwarfed by its massive, looming shadow, you've never felt so insignificant. You shove your hands deep into your pockets, huddling in on yourself despite the warm summer air, as you wait for your girlfriend to appear.
When she does, she arrives like the blossoming buds in the park, a ray of colour and joy emerging from steely grey. Just like on a walk among the flowers, you feel yourself relax upon seeing her.
You smile and open your arms for an embrace that she willingly falls into, then she giggles into your neck.
"You look beautiful, sweetheart," you murmur when she pulls back, though your arms still drape over her shoulders. It's the truth too, with her long hair flowing free and swaying slightly in the light breeze, down to her coral and white sundress trailing her every turn. She's beautiful, and you want her to know it.
She takes your praise with a blush, pushing herself closer to your chest until your sporadic heart rate catches her attention.
"Are you nervous?"
"They're intimidating," you defend.
"They're harmless when you know them. But I'd fight any one of them if they made you uncomfortable," she promises, "and I'd win."
You know she's telling the truth, as – you assume – her team knows too. While your girlfriend may be the embodiment of summer and light, you know what she's capable of against those who hurt her loved ones.
"Getting through today without a fight is a goal I didn't expect to need."
"I'm sorry, I'm sorry," she apologises, though you're quick to reassure her it's not a true concern. "They're going to love you, I think. Really, I'm the one who should be getting nervous."
"I don't plan to ditch you for your family; what else is there to be concerned about?"
"Oh great, another worry I didn't expect to need," she grumbles, a smile teasing her lips at the callback to your previous words. You scoff and playfully push at her shoulder with a shake of your head. She grins and pulls herself back into your arms. "It's…something else, but you'll see it when we're up there."
"Is my sweet superhero girlfriend hiding a deep secret?" you say with a fake gasp, playing into the act until she grabs your hand and pulls you into the building. "Something scandalous?" you tease again while you stand shoulder-to-shoulder in the elevator. You know without looking that she rolls her eyes, but you still don't get an answer out of her.
She interlocks her fingers with yours again just before the elevator pings, signalling your arrival at the destination. She takes a deep breath and you fear she's settled your own nerves at the expense of her own; you squeeze her hand and let her lead you forward into the common room.
"She's back everyone!" The yell takes you by surprise and before you know it you've jumped away from the voice and into your girlfriend, who shoots a glare at the laughing redhead.
"Natasha, this is Y/N. Y/N, Natasha."
"Um, nice to meet you," you greet, moving forward to shake her hand despite the flush of embarrassment lingering on your face.
Natasha clasps your hand, returning the greeting with a polite "pleasure to meet you too". Even if her smirk never fades and she tracks her eyes first over you, then over your girlfriend.
You cast a nervous glance behind you, before stepping back to your girlfriend's side; she smiles encouragingly at you, which fades when her gaze falls back to Natasha.
"Where are the others?"
"On their way, I'd assume. Did you not hear me shout for them?"
"We heard," the girl beside you huffs, drawing another smirk out of the older woman.
Natasha turns to you again, "they really are all excited to meet you, Y/N. Wanda's told us so much about you."
Before you can ask about what she's said, the room suddenly crowds with an influx of Avengers, all talking over each other to introduce themself to you first. Red wisps wrap around you and pull you free from the crowd to stand slightly behind her, the witch putting herself between you and the team until they prove they can act reasonably.
They don't take the hint and Natasha notices the growing stress of both you and your girlfriend, so she drops the teasing act in order to command the crowd into a line. You're surprised by the rapid change in pace from her drawing enjoyment from your fear and embarrassment to defending you against the rabid Avengers hoard. Wanda doesn't seem quite so shocked, as if she knew Natasha's allegiance all along – of course, that is very possible, considering they're teammates while you'd only met the redhead five minutes before.
Thanks to the assassin's work, however, you're soon able to greet each Avenger one by one, all with an opinion on your relationship with Wanda ranging from: "She's been so much happier since knowing you," to "Why on earth would you date my sister?"
The latter came, of course, from Pietro, Wanda's older twin brother. He took his self-assigned role as Wanda's protector very seriously: testing your grip on the handshake, glaring from across the room, and criticising his sister in the expectation that you'd say wonderful things about her to prove him wrong. You expect the "I'll hurt you if you hurt my sister," talk to come any day now, especially if you end up hanging out in the Avengers tower more frequently.
Regardless, he seems to approve for now, nodding his head and letting you walk farther into the common space, where you notice a very interesting picture up on the wall. You step closer almost without thinking, and certainly without comprehending your girlfriend's hesitant interruption behind you.
You turn back to her with a wide grin across your face and a sparkle in your eyes that she can't help but smile at, even if her eyes display a tense dread waiting for your reaction.
"Did my girlfriend…" you begin, edging back towards her, "my sweet, summer girlfriend… have an emo phase?" You're standing right in front of her now, foreheads practically touching as you interlace her fingers in yours, grinning knowingly.
"It's not a phase," Pietro teases, though his mouth is promptly shut in a red mist.
"Yeah, she's still emo-" Tony continues in his place. He is silenced too, but your eyes widen and Wanda realises that it's too late.
"Not so summery after all, huh?" you whisper for only her to hear.
"Not with them."
"I love getting to see that side of you." You punctuate it with a kiss, before speaking up for the whole team to hear you again. "Was that the big secret?" She nods. "Oh, my love, you didn't have to worry about that, I'll stand by you through any style you choose. I thought it was going to be that you'd killed someone or something!"
"...I mean, I have done that," she says bluntly. You look up at the team to see if she's joking, but they're all in various stages of thought themselves: slight grimaces, scratching heads, slow nods, and all avoiding eye contact.
"You all have, haven't you?" you ask.
"Missions aren't without their casualties," comes Natasha's reply; her voice is flat, but you can see the strained nonchalance with which she shrugs and you pull Wanda closer.
"I'll love you no matter what, even through your big, dark, emo secret."

Bucky x reader- super angsty but fluff ending
In a relationship, bucky doesn't want reader going on mission because it's a hydra Misson, they argue and don't talk to each other, bucky hears reader get hurt and he hears her say "im sorry buck, i love you" and then her comms go out and he can't do anything to help because he's pinned down and by the time he gets to her she's bleeding out and passed out and bucky is breaking down apologising and saying he didn't mean anything of what he said etc and I dunno how you would wanna end it
A/N: So sorry it took me so long to get to this request!! I hope you enjoy!
Warnings: mentions of blood, injuries, throwing up, lots of angst and fluff
“Bucky, stop it!” You shouted. “I’m going on this mission, okay? I can handle myself.” You had been having this fight all morning. The mission you were going on was extremely dangerous. You were basically marching right into the center of Hydra.
“I am begging you,” Bucky pleaded. “I can’t let anything happen to you.”
“You do realize I’m a superhero in my own right? I don’t need you to protect me!” You snapped back. You knew he just wanted to protect you, but the fact that he acted like you weren’t capable of this made you angry. You had spent years fighting with the Avengers back when he was still the Winter Soldier. You had fought aliens and bionic humans and monsters. You didn’t need him to help you.
“I know but you don’t understand. They know we’re together. That means you have a target on your back. They’d do anything to hurt you because it would hurt me!” You almost felt bad but you had to stand up for yourself. You weren’t some helpless little girl.
“You’re being stupid! I thought you were smarter than this, Y/N. You’re acting like a child!” Bucky said, matching the stern tone of your voice.
“I don’t care! Let me be stupid then!” You left your room, slamming the door on your way out to go meet everyone at the jet. Bucky followed shortly after and the team got ready to leave.
The two of you didn’t say a word to each other on the flight across the world to Europe. The tension between the two of you hung heavy in the air, casting a fog over the entire jet. Everyone could tell something was going on, but no one dared to ask. Your relationship was incredibly passionate - full of love that could burn the world down. But the same principle applied when you fought.
You were paired up with Natasha, splitting off from Bucky, Steve, and Tony when you arrived. You subtly snuck around the Hydra base, using your spy skills to remain hidden. You had been trained by the Red Room like Natasha, turning you into a silent killer full of stealth and surprises.
“Status?” Bucky spoke through the com device in your ear.
When you didn’t immediately make a move to respond, Natasha filled him in. “There’s agents everywhere. We’re hidden right now but we gotta make a move soon.”
“Same here,” Bucky answered.
An agent passed by but didn’t spot the two of you. All at once, you and Natasha passed, jumping onto the man's shoulders from behind and snapping his neck. “One down, a hundred to go,” you smirked at Nat. You could do this. You could prove to Bucky that you didn’t need his help.
Steve updated everyone, panting through the coms that they were deep into battle now. You and Natasha took a more subtle approach, trying to remain as hidden as possible before sneaking up and stealthily taking out agents as you could. Everything was going well. It was all under control.
Until you felt the gun against your head.
“Don’t move a damn muscle,” a low russian accent purred in your ear. “I’ve got you right where I want you,” he said, dragging the gun from your temple around to the base of your neck. Your arms were pinned behind you. You couldn’t move.
Natasha was too far away, locked into her own battle with an agent. A battle that she was winning but one that could easily go wrong if she turned her focus. You wanted to scream out but you were terrified that if you did, the man would shoot.
In the blink of an eye, the man who was holding you pulled out a knife and sliced your thigh deeply. You couldn’t help the cry that escaped your mouth as he did it, grabbing Natasha’s attention just as she finished off her victim.
“Y/N!” She ran over to you but was sidetracked by another agent stepping in her path.
“What’s going on?” Bucky’s voice rang out in your ears. “Y/N? Natasha?” Panic was evident in his voice. “Someone talk to me!”
“Bucky!” You cried out, hoping he would show up any second to save you. “Help me!”
The Hydra agent laughed, hearing your calls for the man. “You’re Barnes’ girl, aren’t you?” He laughed, coldly. “Oh, we’re gonna have fun.” His voice sent chills down your spine.
“Y/N, what’s going on? Where are you?” His voice came through your ear.
“I-I don’t know!” You answered. “He-has me!”
“I’m coming, baby, I’m coming. Are you hurt?”
You were still terrified each time you answered, expecting that the man would pull the trigger every time you opened your mouth. But if these were your last moments, you wanted to spend them talking to the love of your life.
“Y-yes,” you choked out.
“Alright, I think I’ve been nice enough to let this go on for so long,” the russian accent spoke before ripping the comms out of your ear and smashing it on the ground.
“No!” You cried out. The blood you were losing from your leg was already making you feel dizzy. A puddle of crimson from your body began to pool on the ground.
“I was gonna shoot you in the head,” the man behind you whispered in your ear, making you feel sick. “But it would be such a shame to mess up this pretty face.”
Before you could even register what was going on, the gun was pressed to your back and a bullet was fired into your body. He shot you two more times. The man laughed as he walked away, leaving you to bleed out alone on the floor. Natasha had left, you had no idea where she had gone. She didn’t mean to abandon you, she really thought you’d be able to get out of your situation on your own while she completed the mission.
Across the building, Bucky was frantic. “Y/N? Talk to me! Where are you, baby?” He was panicking. One minute you were talking to him and then you were just…gone. His worst fear was coming true.
He sprinted as far as he could, dodging Hydra agents left and right, taking them out with the metal arm that they had put on his body.  He swore he had never run faster in his entire life. He knew back at their post, Steve and Tony were still fighting, yelling at him as he sprinted away. He knew he’d be in trouble later. But he didn’t care. He only cared about you.
But he was intercepted by more agents. Suddenly, he was pinned down, completely unable to move. “Y/N!” He yelled out again while he thrashed. He didn’t even care that these men would probably kidnap him again. Turn him back into the Winter Soldier. All he cared about was reaching you.
He tried as hard as he could, thrashing and squirming. Time was running out. He didn't know exactly what had happened to you, but he knew you didn't have long. Especially with the nature of the enemy you were dealing with.
After minutes of trying to escape the agent's grasp, he was able to free his metal arm, punching hard and knocking down the agent who had his legs. He was then able to use more strength to fight, taking down each person who had tried to separate him from the love of his life.
He was sick when he saw you, bending over to throw up at the sight in front of him. You were laying on the ground, still as a rock. Blood stained the concrete below you. He swore he had never seen so much blood come from one person at once.
“Y/N!” He screamed out, running over to you. Your eyes were closed. “Y/N, wake up! Wake up, please!” He cried. “Oh my god, please!” He chanted over and over, trying to get you to open your eyes while putting pressure on you to stop the bleeding as much as possible.
Suddenly there was a gasp from your frame. “B-bucky!” You called out weakly using every ounce of strength you could. “I love you.”
“I love you, angel. So much. I didn’t mean a word I said! Please just hang on! Please! I can’t watch you die right now.” Tears streamed down his face as he spoke.
"So...tired," you said weakly, your eyes fluttering between opened and closed.
"I know, baby, I know," he stroked your hair. "But you gotta stay awake, okay? You gotta fight."
"What's going on, Buck?" Steve spoke in his ear.
"It's bad, Steve. I gotta get her to a hospital. Now," he said, through tears.
"Alright. It's clear now. You can take her."
Bucky swore time moved in slow motion as you waited for an ambulance. He held your hand the entire time, terrified every time your eyes closed for more than a second. You kept drifting in and out of consciousness even as the paramedics began to work on you in the vehicle. He couldn't believe this was really happening. If he lost you, his entire world would stop.
9 hours and an emergency surgery later, you were still unconscious but stable. He sat by your hospital bed, eyes red from crying, still holding your hand.
"Baby, I don't know if you can hear me right now," he said to your unconscious body. "But I need you to wake up. I need you to come back to me. I can't do this without you, I-" he paused as his voice broke. "I never thought I'd have any good in my life again. And then I found you. And I can't lose you. I don't know what I'll do. I don't know who I am without you." Tears wet his face as he spoke. "Please, baby. My darling. Please, come back to me."
He didn't leave your side all night. He waited and waited for hours, not sleeping or eating. He was terrified to not be watching you even for a second.
The sun was rising the next morning and he was exhausted and scared and he just wanted you. His head was in his metal hand as he cried, still holding yours with his flesh one, when he felt it. It was small, but he felt it. The subtle squeeze from your hand. "Y/N?" he said, immediately lifting his head.
You groaned softly, eyes still closed. "Am I dead?" You asked as you very slowly opened your eyes, trying to adjust to the light.
"No, baby," he sniffed, getting up and kissing your forehead. "You're not dead. You're alive. Oh my god, you're alive."

Rain Therapy | Bucky Barnes
bucky barnes x fem!reader ✧ oneshot
Tumblr media
Summary: The line between friends and lovers is impossibly thin, yet somehow the hardest line to cross. It's a line that you and Bucky just can't seem to break, but it's nothing one of Tony's infamous parties can't fix.
A/N: Another fluffy one for me, which is still something I'm growing used to writing. I'm getting anxious for some angst, so ask me for some and I'll see what I can do!
Warnings: two idiots in love, slight angst, tooth-rotting fluff, language, allusions to smutty content, jealous Bucky
Word Count: 7,206
✦✧✦✧✦✧✦✧✦✧✦✧✦✧✦✧✦✧✦✧✦✧✦✧✦✧✦✧✦✧✦✧✦✧✦✧✦✧✦
The whisper of lightning, the promise of thunder, the answer of rain. The sky darkens and the sun is forgotten, casting a gloomy light on the earth below.
And yet, in the midst of all that chaos, I find it to be a chemical mixture for peace.
“Y/N, Y/N what the hell are you doing out there?”
That illusion of peace shatters, and I let out low groan, keeping my eyes shut as the raindrops fall down on my form outstretched on the pavement.
“I was having a peaceful moment of bliss until someone decided now was an opportune time to bother me,” I call back.
“An opportune time to-” I hear him cut off incredulously, muttering something to himself as heavy, booted feet slosh through the rain to reach me, “Get off the damn driveway, doll. You’re gonna get sick.”
“I’m pretty sure that’s a myth,” I respond, staying pleasantly where I lay right in front of the Avengers Compound.
“Myth my ass, now get up and inside before I throw you over my shoulder and do it for you.”
I click my tongue, not having to open my eyes to know my best friend is standing right beside me, “So much violence, so much language. You should join me, some inner peace would do you good.”
Thunder cracks above, rumbling through the earth and into my bones. Even though I don’t hear his steps moving away, Bucky goes silent beside me. I begin to think he’s taking me up on my offer of a little rain therapy.
“See,” I sigh into the cacophony of nature, “Isn’t that peaceful? Maybe-”
I don’t even have time to react when a pair of strong arms, one of them freezing cold due to the metal in the rain, grab my waist and lift me clear off the floor. My eyes snap open with a jolt as I see myself being thrown over Bucky’s shoulder just like he promised.
“What the-” I stop myself as he secures me with his arm dangerously near my ass and slap his broad, muscular back, “You little bitch!”
“A little bitch who’s gonna keep you from getting a cold,” Bucky responds, and I can hear the smugness in his tone from back here, “Is the rain still peaceful?”
“No, there’s a jackass who got in the way.”
I feel his body rumble with laughter, feel the noise pass through my body and make my heart tumble in its cage. With that, his arm edging near a zone that’s clearly more than friends, and the sight of his wet t-shirt stuck to his back, I feel the anger flood from my body. Instead, I find myself thinking about what his abs look like with his rain-soaked shirt pressed against them.
Damn it, I’ve really got it bad.
I try my hardest to shove the image from my mind, but it only sticks harder and makes the spot where Bucky’s hand rests burn. I notice his metal hand on the other side, rain dripping off of it, and I can’t help but let my mind trace to-
I halt my thinking abruptly. He’s your best friend, he’s your best friend, he’s your best friend.
He’s my unfairly hot, broody, and annoyingly heart-fluttering best friend
With his free hand, Bucky shoves open the front doors to the Avenger’s Compound, walking a few steps until we enter one of the large, high-ceiling living areas where a television blasts a movie.
“I told you,” Tony announces after the group of my friends and teammates sees Bucky walking in with me on his shoulder, “Sam, you owe me five bucks.”
“Put me down, terminator,” I grunt, to which Bucky finally sets me on my feet.
Immediately I go to hit him, but the sudden change in my body’s gravity sends me off balance slightly. I stumble back slightly, trying to make the blood rush from my head so I can balance again.
“Woah, careful there, Bambi,” Bucky laughs, gripping onto my waist to help steady me.
Where his hands touch, metal and skin alike, my skin sets on fire. The radiating electricity from his touch only annoys me further and I shove out of his hands, swatting his chest.
“I’m fine,” I grumble, tilting my chin up to meet his gaze and holding a finger in his face like a scolding parent, “Next time you manhandle me, I’m going to remove your arm like Ayo showed me.”
Bucky smirks at me coolly and says something, but I miss it because my eyes drop down to where his t-shirt sticks to his abs from the rain. Just like I imagined it would, it makes my mouth go dry and my heartbeat miss a step.
“See something you like?” Bucky taunts.
Cheeks flushed, I look up at him calmly and smile, “Just thinking about what a shame a body like that is wasted on the grumpiest man alive.”
The group of Avengers lounging around the various chairs and couches in the living room snicker, their attention drawn from the television. He lifts an eyebrow at me and those infuriating steel blue eyes ricochet my pulse.
“Sure you were.”
“Whatever,” I mumble, turning and looking at team, “Who bet against me?”
Tony, Bruce, Wanda, and Nat lifts their hands and I gasp, pressing a hand to my chest in feigned hurt.
“Traitors,” I grumble, not being able to stop the smile that wants to twitch onto my lips as Bucky walks up beside me and rests his arm on my shoulder.
“They bet right, didn’t they?”
I look up at him with the half-smile I wasn’t able to stop, “Screw you,”
I turn around and leave the living room, making my way towards my room so I can shower and change. From behind me, I hear Bucky’s laugh that sears itself into my memory.
“Love you too, doll!” He calls out, and my heart launches into my throat.
He doesn’t mean it like I want him to, not like how I mean it. Not like how I've meant it for months.
As I finally get to the confines of my bedroom, I shut to the door and let out a trembling breath. I keep my back pressed to the door for a moment, leaning my head against it and forcing myself to forget the way his hands felt, to strike from my memory the beauty of his laugh. When I finally peel off my wet clothes and step into a scalding hot shower, I let the water and steam surround me long after I'm already clean.
I'm a coward, a coward and a fool for falling for my best friend and not being able to say a word to him about it.
Long after I'm out of the shower and cuddled up with a book on my bed, a knock sounds on my door. I've barely glanced up at it in confusion when Natasha's voice calls out, "I know you're probably reading a book but put it down and let me in unless you want me to break down the door."
A half-smile tugs onto my lips and I set my book aside, untangling myself from my covers and opening the door for my friend. She gives me a smug smile and waltzes in, plopping down on my bed. I can't help but shake my head at her as she makes herself at home.
"Why are all of my friends so violent?" I taunt, sitting down next to her.
"Most of us are trained assassins." Nat gives me a playful nudge, already lifting my spirits from the gloom and doom they were resting in. Her knowing gaze immediately notifies me that I can't escape the conversation to come, so I don't even bother to skirt around it.
"Why does my life suck?" I groan, dropping down onto my back dramatically. Nat laughs beside me, shaking her head down at me.
"So many questions tonight," She remarks, following the words with a tired sigh and laying down beside me. As we both stare up at my ceiling, my mind is held captive by one person. Both it and my heart have been held hostage and I'm starting to understand the truth in Stockholm Syndrome.
"You know, and brace yourself because this is gonna blow your mind, you could just tell him how you feel," Nat advises.
"And risk ruining everything that we already have?" I reply, my brows creased in an ever-present state of worry, "I could live with being friends with him forever as long as it meant I still had him in my life. But if I tell him how I feel and it changes everything to the point where he can't even be around me?"
I take a charged pause, startled by the sudden rise of emotion. I swallow down the burning pain, but ultimately I decide to go easy on my breaking heart. The poor thing doesn't know any better. All it knows is that it wants Bucky Barnes and I keep locking it and its desires into a cage of bones in my chest.
"A life without him...I couldn't live like that."
Nat sits up beside me, catching my attention in time to see the sympathy flashing across her features, "Y/N, I know it's scary but if you'd just trust me I think the outcome would surprise you."
She can tell that I'm still not convinced, so in a last ditch effort to rally me from my slumber of inaction, she reaches across me and grabs the book I was reading. I sit up, a protest just starting on my tongue as I reach for it. She pulls it out of my reach and holds it in front of her chest, displaying the cover for me to see.
"Do any of the characters in these books ever fare well from denying their passions?" Nat asks, and I find that she has me in a figurative corner, "Do their stories end well when they decide, 'Nah, I'm too scared to tell him I love him'?"
"I don't love him," I protest, but the lie is sour on my tongue and allergic to my soul. It gets rejected so quickly by everything within me that I almost think I'll have a physical reaction to it.
"Bullshit." Nat challenges, setting the book aside and grabbing my hands. I shake my head, trying to escape her arguments that my heart jumps in agreement with.
It's a brutal thing, to have your heart yearn for one thing and your mind so resolutely against it. I've always thought it strange how the dichotomy of desires could root in a person, but it makes sense in a way. The heart is led by our passions, our intuitive cravings. The mind is hardwired by nature and instinct to protect us, to propel our survivals.
Even if that means our passions must be slaughtered.
I'm keeping my mind in charge by sheer will that's hanging precariously over the edge of a cliff. My will only has a few fingers left to hold with, and I can feel it slipping every day Bucky's near me, every time his skin brushes mine, every time he simply is.
“I need to move on,” I almost desperately announce, gripping handfuls of my sweatshirt to keep from crying, “I need a way to move or this is going to kill me. He’s going to kill me.”
Sympathetic to my distress, Natasha lays a reassuring hand on my shoulder, “You know, with Tony’s Semi-Annual Charity Gala coming up this weekend it’s the perfect time to move on.”
I perk up slightly, the thought breaking a sliver of hope in the pit of despair and self-pity I allow to well up. For an Avenger, I sure know how to wallow in pain.
“…or make a move on a certain super soldier.” Nat continues.
“Don’t be silly, I’d never steal Steve away from you,” I jest, my tone wavering but stronger than before. Nat rolls her eyes from beside me before shoving my shoulder. With a sigh, I finally meet my friend’s gaze, “One last chance. One chance and then I’m putting myself out of my misery”
That’s so easily said. The unspoken truth is that my poor heart doesn’t stand a chance. It hasn’t for a long time.
“Great!” Nat smiles, squeezing me into a side hug on the bed, “I’ll start planning your outfit now!”
And with that, she’s off my bed and into my closet. As we spend the better part of the night deciding on what to wear to the upcoming gala, I can’t help but let my mind stray to its usual focus. With a groan of exhaustion, I drop my head into my hands and tell myself that same lie.
“He’s my best friend. That’s all.”
It’s getting harder and harder to believe.

A few days later
It's been a few days since the rain incident, and I've finally managed to garner a moment alone from everyone. It's not that I don't love being around them, but it taxes me more than I care to admit to be around him.
A forlorn sigh brushes past my lips, but as I nestle down on the floor in the library Tony had put into the Compound, I find my worries drifting away. Instead, they're replaced with the story in the pages, rapturing my attention and distracting my mind.
That is, until the door opens and I feel his presence before I see or hear him.
"There you are, doll. I've been looking for you all day," Bucky calls, his deep, smooth voice cascading into my very soul. I shut my eyes for a moment, trying desperately to not let it show on my face how jarring it was to be snapped from the book to the person I've been trying to avoid.
"You've been looking for me?" I ask, managing to make my voice seem calm and pleasant. He approaches where I'm sitting on the floor, a breath-stealing smile tugging at his lips.
"Course I have, I haven't seen you in days," He replies, his face the picture of relaxed calm, drawing a fierce dichotomy to the barely-veiled confliction on my own. Bucky takes a moment, surveying me sitting on the floor amidst all of the chairs and couches available. He lifts an amused brow at me.
"Why are you on the floor?"
I can't stop myself from smiling up at him and all control I had in keeping myself away from him disintegrates, "It's more comfortable to me. Are you judging me Barnes?"
His laugh bursts light into the depths of me, and as I watch his face relax I can't help but look on in awe at how far he's come. When he first joined the team, he was withdrawn and quiet and even grumpier than he is now. He never smiled, never laughed, and barely spoke. Now, of course he's adorably grumpy most of the time, but he smiles and laughs. He enjoys life, and he more than anyone else in this world deserves to enjoy life.
"What're you reading?" Bucky asks, and I try to ignore the way my pulse rockets up when he settles down beside me on the floor.
He stretches out his long legs, keeping the one furthest from me bent and resting his arm on top it. His other leg is stretched out and nearly touching my own. To help balance his weight, he settles the hand closest to me, his metal hand, onto a spot on the floor behind my back. The position makes his chest brush against my shoulder ever so slightly and all I can feel is the burning of his presence and the searing of his gaze.
"Just some fantasy book," I reply, not wanting to bore him.
I look over at him to see his eyes already on my face, his own radiating a serene peace. He furrows his brows at my prolonged examination of his features and the ghost of a smile twitches at the corner of his lips, "What is it?"
"Nothing, it's just," My mouth has gone dry again, and I can't seem to clear the haze on my mind, "You look at peace."
"Well someone pretty incredible suggested rain therapy, which works like a charm for my grumpiness."
A laugh bubbles out of me, only widening the smile on his face. I find myself subconsciously leaning into his presence and bringing our faces closer.
"Seriously," Bucky continues, making me realize our proximity and pull back to a normal distance, "I'm always at peace around you."
My heart doesn't just miss a step, it stumbles and falls and nearly gives out in my chest. His words affect every part of me and it's a feat of pure resilience that I don't reach over and press my lips to his.
"Unless you're doing something stupid and testing my nerves," He adds on, lightening the air and making me giggle. He nods towards the almost forgotten book in my hands.
"You were going to tell me about your new read," Bucky reminds, and I smile.
I spend the next ten minutes detailing what's happening in the book, my excitement about it taking over and making me ramble on without barely taking any breaths. I occasionally look between the book and Bucky, sometimes gesturing with my hands to establish my enthusiasm.
Even when I'm not looking at him, Bucky's gaze never leaves my face.
So much for giving myself space to try and move on from him. That thought is far from my mind, though. The longer I’m near him, the closer he is, the harder it is to remember to forget him. And now, with Tony’s Gala tomorrow night, I don’t know how I’m going to move on.
Maybe I really can give this one last shot. It could break me if it goes wrong, but I have a feeling I’ll break a little regardless.

The next night
Not even the pounding of the music and the chatter and clatter of hundreds of guests can drown out my racing mind.
“Stop tugging at your dress, you look great,” Natasha chides from beside me.
With a huff of anxiety, I heed her words and stop fiddling with the snug material of the one-sleeved dress. It hugs my curves down to my waist before draping elegantly to the floor, broken only by the high slit up the thigh.
“I know,” I reply, downing my second drink of the night and setting down the empty glass on the tray of a passing waiter with a brief smile, “I just haven’t seen him yet. He’s coming right? Tony told us all to be here, so he wouldn’t just-”
“Why does there have to be so many people here?”
My words die out at the distant but unmissable rumble of words behind me. I turn around, and my entire world seems to focus on the epicenter that is Bucky Barnes as he walks in beside Sam Wilson.
“It’s a party man, I thought you loved parties back in the day,” Sam replies, smiling at a few people as he walks in.
“Yeah well I don’t like people like I did then,” Bucky grumbles back, messing with the edges of his all-black suit that is tailored so perfectly that it hones every inch of his body.
His broad shoulders, his muscular form, his piercing blue eyes in a fierce dichotomy with the darkness of the getup…I almost trip in my heels.
“You don’t like any people? That breaks my heart, Barnes,” I manage out coolly, walking up to the pair with a half-smile tugging on my lips and my heart dancing with the butterflies within.
Bucky’s gaze turns from the party goers to where I walk up to them, and a part of me melts at the way a light filters into his features. His dashing smile makes my own grow before I can stop it. The way he simply stops for a moment and stares at me, as if the throngs of people around us don’t exist…
It’s more than an effort to shove my poor heart into its shackles.
“I guess you’re an exception, doll,” He amends, and Sam rolls his eyes beside Bucky as they stop before me.
“It’s not like I’m right here,” Sam announces, making me giggle slightly and look to him.
“Hey Sam, good to see you,” I greet, walking over and hugging the man. He hugs me back, smiling brightly.
“Good to see you too,” Sam responds, his eyes catching on something over my shoulder, “Now if you’ll excuse me, I believe there are some fans who need me.”
I laugh as I watch him walk over and greet a group of women by the bar. When I turn back to Bucky, I shove down my nerves and shake my head as I pull him into a hug.
“You look incredible, Buck,” I announce, trying to ignore the rightness of his body against mine as he pulls me into a hug that lasts a moment more than I should have let it.
“Y/N,” he deadpans, pulling back but leaving his arms on my waist to admire me. His eyes sparkle with something akin to awe that makes hope rise in my chest, “You put me and everyone else in this room to shame.”
“You obviously haven’t looked in a mirror,” I remark, desperately trying to not show all over my face how beautiful he is.
Bucky just smiles. He looks at me and he smiles and I am undone.
My eyes catch on Natasha over Bucky’s shoulder as she mingles in the background of the party. When our gazes meet she gestures to Bucky with a hand, mounting the words ‘Come on’ as she does. Nodding back to her, I remember the conversation we had a few days ago and right before we joined the gala. I have to be bold and make a move, take a chance before I lose the ability to do so.
“So,” I turn back to Bucky, smiling knowingly up at him, “How’re you doing with the whole party thing?”
Bucky takes in a breath, nodding his head slightly as he surveys the party scene around us. Drinks are flowing, laughs rising, and music is permeating through every sector of the Avengers Compound. The floor shakes with the base and the clattering of shoes as he looks back to me, “Oh you know, just fantastic.”
“Is that so?” I taunt, almost laughing at the dripping sarcasm in his voice. He shoots me a grumpy glare that finally unleashes my laugh. At the sound, Bucky’s features soften and a smile touches his lips. I notice this and furrow my brows up at him.
“What?”
“Nothing,” Bucky whispers, just holding that’s soft smile in his eyes that makes me almost forget the track of the conversation. When I snap myself from my daze, I gasp.
“Oh, I almost forgot!” I exclaim, holding my clutch up and opening it to find what I stashed earlier, “I know how you are with parties like this and all so I thought that this might help make it a better memory.”
“You got me a gift?” Bucky asks, shaking his head at me with furrowed brows, “You should have told me, I would’ve gotten you something too!”
I shake my head, finally finding what I’m looking for and glancing up at Bucky, “Then it wouldn’t be a surprise, would it?”
With a bright smile to cover my pounding, anxious heart, I hold out the small book in my hands. Bucky glances down at the gift I hold out, and I watch his body go still. Anticipation dances in my belly as he ever so gently reaches out and takes the old, fading The Hobbit novel into his hands.
“It’s a first edition, don’t ask me how I found it,” I inform, playing with the fabric of my dress to give my now empty hands something to do, “I know how much you loved it and now when you’re watching me read in the library, you can read too.”
My words ring out between us, and yet Bucky barely moves. Just when I’m beginning to grow nervous, my heart melts into a puddle in my chest when he lifts his steel-eyed gaze to me. I’ve never seen him cry before, but here and now I can see the lining of unshed tears in his gaze.
“Buck-"
He closes the distance between us, pulling me so close to him that there’s no room for separation. I melt into the hug, becoming nothing more than an extension of his body. There’s no him. There’s no me. There’s only us as we’re suspended in time, caught in this moment.
“Thank you, Y/N,” he mumbles, not moving back an inch and letting his voice cascade over my neck and down my spine, “You don’t know what this means to me.”
Reluctantly, I pull back. Every part of me shouts in protest, but I know we have to separate as some point. I give him a soft smile, trying to ignore the noose that’s slowly tightening around my heart. I’m a goner. I have no chance of recovery.
“Don’t mention it,”
Bucky stares at me for another moment, the charged silence soon taking on an anticipated feel. We’re both waiting for the other to make the first move, I can sense it. I see Nat nudge me from afar again and decide to finally muster up my courage and stop waiting. I notice Bucky shakes his head at something, mumbling something to himself, but I press on.
“Hey, do you wanna da-”
“I’m gonna go get a drink,” Bucky bursts out at almost the same instant, making me cut off my sentence quickly.
A drink? He’s going to get a drink right now, as soon as I was about to ask him to dance? I know he didn’t mean it as a rejection, but it still stings like one.
“Oh, uh yeah sure. That’s-”
Before I can even finish speaking, Bucky has darted away desperately towards the bar at the North side of the room near Sam. I stand dumbfounded, my heart slowly sinking. This is going to be much harder than I thought.
|||
It's been nearly an hour and a half and Bucky is still managing to be everywhere that I am not.
I can take a hint. Even if that hint shatters my soul a little.
As I watch the super soldier mingle with some of the guests, a polite and slightly annoyed smile on his face, I feel something snap within my chest. Here I am, lounging pathetically at the bar all alone, and there he is, my best friend who I can't seem to fall out of love with. His strong jaw and steel eyes don't dare to turn in my direction, and I feel my fracturing soul crack even more.
I have to let it go. I have to let it go. I have to let him go.
With a long sigh, I pick up the drink before me and down its contents, letting the burn soothe away the edge of the crawling pain in my chest. Once the glass is slammed back down on the bar counter, I steel my nerves and stand.
It's time I stop feeling sorry for myself and move on.
My eyes scan the thick crowd scattered throughout every inch of Tony's gala. Music radiates through every molecule of air, and just one glance at the dance floor has my feet moving before my brain is. As I walk over to the dance floor, I see a random guy standing with a few others. He's cute enough with a charming smile, so I grab his arm as I walk past, making him glance over at me. I flash him my best smile and tug him towards the dance floor.
"Dance with me?" I ask boldly, and his smile widens.
"I'd be honored," He replies, letting me pull him onto the dance floor.
I should let myself be whisked away into the music and the movements and the feel of his hands on my hips as we dance. I should let the base and the crowd and the charming man before me wipe away every thought, but I just...can't. All I can think about when his hands slide gently on my waist is how different it feels when those hands are Bucky's. My heart is crushing slowly, and so I do everything I can to forget it.
It's actually beginning to work until the music abruptly cuts out.
Groans and boo's arise from the crowd with me on the dance floor as we all look around, trying to figure out why the music's stopped. "That's so weird," The nice guy I'm dancing with mumbles. I mention my agreement, my eyes sweeping the edges of the party before I catch a glint of dark metal. My eyes fly back to the metal only to see Bucky storming away from the sound booth, his metal fist clenched so hard that I'm surprised it doesn't malfunction. In his metal grasp is a hunk of wires, and my stomach drops.
He did not.
"Don't worry folks! I'll have the music back up in no time," Tony announces, flashing his winning smile to the crowd as he jogs to the sound booth, "There was a slight malfunction"
I see him shoot Bucky a glare, but true to his words the music is back up in a matter of minutes. I feel anger begin to make my blood boil and I pull away from the guy I was dancing with. I see a frown pull onto his face as he lets me go but follows me a few steps.
"Are you okay?" He calls after me, and my heart twists in sympathy. I must look absolutely furious and he probably thinks it's pointed at him. So, I do my best to give him a sympathetic smile.
"I'm alright, thanks for the dance. I needed it," I comment, before turning and continuing my beeline for the brooding super soldier in the corner. He's standing with Sam, muttering something that I can't hear as I finally break through the crowd and walk up to them.
"Here we go," Sam mumbles, slowly backing away as I come to a stop in front of Bucky.
"What the hell, James?" I grit out.
"Oh she used the first name," Sam comments, his eyes widening, "I'm going to go check on Steve."
Then he leaves, and it's just Bucky and I. Bucky just shrugs, not meeting my furious gaze.
"I don't know what you're so mad about but-"
"Oh really? So you didn't just rip out the sound system?" I accuse, crossing my arms over my chest. He finally turns and meets my gaze, and damn it all I can't stop the swooning of my heart at the dark, rugged look on his face.
I'm angry, I remind myself. I'm angry with him.
"What does that have to do with you, sweetheart?"
I scoff, shaking my head at him, "You are unbelievable! I was finally starting to have a good night and-"
"Dancing with that handsy prick makes your night a good night then?" He interrupts, and I have to fight to keep the smug look off of my face at catching him.
"What were you saying about this having nothing to do with me?" I fire back, lifting an eyebrow. Bucky clenches his jaw and takes a step closer to me, probably expecting me to back off. I don't. Instead, I tilt my head up to meet his gaze, trying and failing to seem taller than him.
"I don't like you dancing with other men like that," Bucky informs, his voice dark. He's so close to me that his whiskey and pine scent invades my senses, threatening to empty my head of the argument at hand.
"I can dance with whoever the hell I want, Barnes. And since certain people made it very clear they didn't want to dance with me, then certain people should have no say in who I dance with"
"I don't dance, Y/N." His eyes are cool fire and they sear right through me. Even in this heated argument, all I can seem to think about is how badly I want him, body and soul. My thoughts are banished when he spits his next words out, "Not with you, not with anyone."
It shouldn't hurt. It shouldn't. So why do I have to fight to keep the hurt off of my face?
Just like that, the fire in my argument is gone. I nod, taking a few steps back, "Okay, that's all you had to say."
And then I turn around and leave before he can see the tears welling in my gaze.
I force myself into the crowd, making sure I move quickly and weave myself between those around me to get away as fast as possible. Then, with my heart in my throat, I finally make it to the outskirts of the party where a glass sliding door leads out into a training field. Through the glass, I can see rain pouring down into the dark, almost moonless night.
Seeing it unravels a bit of the pain within my chest, and I don't even think as I slip off my heels and walk outside. I shut the door behind me, muting the sounds of the party and leaving the downpour of rain and the distant rumble of thunder to take over my senses. I set my heels down carefully and walk out into the field, barely jumping when the cool, refreshing droplets begin to pound into my skin. It's not long before I'm soaked and my entire outfit is ruined. I don't mind, though. I'm not planning on going back there anyways.
I sit down in the grass, not even minding how it dirties my dress, and hug my knees close. When I slip my eyes shut, I'm reminded why I love the rain so much.
In moments like this, I can't distinguish my tears from the rain
I don't know how long I sit like this, my eyes shut and the rain drenching me. Eventually, my body stops shaking from the sobs that have now subsided and any evidence of my breakdown has been washed away. I'm almost at peace when I hear that voice, that stupid, addicting voice, ring out behind me through the storm.
"I'd say you'll catch a cold, but I don't think you'd care much"
I swallow hard, cursing my heart for the way it jumps. I open my eyes, but keep my gaze firmly forward across the training field.
"Especially since it's coming from you," I add on, grateful for the lack of tremor in my words.
"I guess I deserved that one," Bucky concedes softly, his voice getting closer. My body begins to shiver with the anticipation of him being close, the response purely visceral and out of my control. I just hope he thinks it's from the rain.
"You think?" I scoff lightly, not having the strength to be angry anymore.
It's silent for a long while, and I almost begin to think that he's left and gone back inside. I'm proven otherwise when I see Bucky walk out from behind me, standing right in front of where I sit with my knees drawn to my chest. Against my better judgement, I look up.
And there he is, drenched like I am and an unreadable look upon his stupidly handsome face.
"Bucky-"
He extends out his human hand, and my words die, "Dance with me."
Every part of my heart beams, and it’s an effort to keep the fluttering of my heart out of my body language. I pause for a moment, almost as if to give him time to retract his hand. When he doesn’t, I hesitantly meet his gaze.
“I thought you didn’t dance,” I whisper. His half-smile grows as he looks down at me with what almost looks like…adoration.
“I don’t,” Bucky confirms, his voice like sugar and pine, “But for you I’d do anything”
I can’t even try to hide the visceral effect his words have on me. With a thousand butterflies batting in my stomach and my heart beating viscously out of rhythm, I allow a small smile to grow on my lips. A new excitement in my chest, I reach up and slip my hand into his large, rough one calloused with work and time. It fits mine perfectly, as always, and his touch muddles my senses and wakes me up all at once, as always.
As he helps me stand, the rain still pouring down on us, he tugs me close to him so suddenly that I stumble right into his chest. A small laugh escapes my lips as I catch myself on his broad chest. Bucky’s so close, so warm, so intoxicating to me that every fiber of my being yearns for his proximity. I’m nothing but a firing hum of nerves and sparks being this close to him, with a hand on his chest and his arm secured around my waist.
And we dance.
There’s no music, there’s no reason. We just dance. Bucky’s magnificent at it, every step dripping in ease and cool confidence that only makes me love him more. I’m so caught in the moment that every thought of a reciprocated or unrequited love has been banished from my mind. All that exists is here and now, underneath the downpour of the heavens with the cacophony of nature as our song.
He twirls me around, making water splash up and a giggle bubble out of me when I slip and fall directly into him. His body rumbles with low laughter when he catches me stopping my fall. Bucky doesn’t even have to say a word for me to know he’s making fun of me, so I slap his chest with a huff of laughter.
“What?” Bucky’s amused voice is the harmony to the melody of the rain.
“I can feel your judgement from here,” I point out, but before I can raise my lightened gaze to meet his on my own, a metal hand hooks under my chin and gently turns my face up until our eyes clash.
Suddenly, I’m not so humored anymore.
Neither is he, I can tell. The air is different—still light with joy but now corded with something deep, rich, and intangible. His piercing blue eyes seem to be burdened with a million different thoughts, but I can barely bring myself to breathe let alone ask him what is going through his beautiful mind.
Bucky doesn’t say a single word, though. He doesn’t have to. My eyes glance down to his lips for no more than one half of a second, and by the time I’ve returned my gaze to his, he’s closing to distance between us and connecting his lips to mine.
I’ve never understood what is so special about kissing in the rain. I get it now. There’s something so dichotomously beautiful in this moment, in the cold, relentless rain and the desperate, burning heat of Bucky’s lips moving against my own.
Again, no words are needed for us both to understand. This kiss is everything that has been bottling up over our friendship. It’s every quiet moment in the library and loud moment in our arguments. As his hands tug me closer and ignite my skin as if it were burning clean off, as his lips and tongue move with mine, every thought and worry and tear-filled, longing night washes away. The very thought makes me sigh into the kiss, and finally we break apart only for the need for air.
Bucky doesn’t let me pull away an inch.
His arms keep my locked close, his forehead against mine as we both catch our breath. He nudged my nose with his before pulling away only enough to meet my gaze. One hand of his cradles my jaw, his thumb running lazy circles on my cheek.
“Does this mean you like me?” I whisper, a humored glint already lighting my gaze. Bucky laughs roughly, his voice sending shivers down my spine that don't go unnoticed. Rather, the other hand he keeps on my waist lifts to absently trace the path of the shiver, almost making my knees go weak.
“I more than like you,” Bucky quips, a content smile taking over his features. My heart misses a step and I don’t dare to dream.
“You really like me?” I taunt, and another heart-warming laugh pours from those perfect lips.
“You’re gonna make me say it, doll?”
I swallow thickly, my eyes not leaving his. I don’t dare to say another word, leaving the challenge up to him. Bucky sighs, moving the hand he keeps on my spine to cradle the other side of my face, now cupping it in his full grasp. He presses a long, gentle kiss to my lips before pulling back enough to where his lips still graze mine as he speaks.
“I love you, Y/N. Always have. Always will.”
My knees nearly go weak, and suddenly I'm so very grateful for the rain's ability to hide what is a drop and what is a tear. I'd never hear the end of it from him if he knew that's what his confession brought me to. When one of thumbs catches a stray tear, though, I know he's fully aware.
"I love you too, Buck."
Bucky smirks before me, bringing his mouth close to my ear and sending another shiver racing down my spine, "I figured that much out, sweetheart"
"Oh whatever!" I announce, hitting his shoulder but leaning in closer to his mouth that now trails from my jaw back to my lips. He presses a sweet kiss to my lips before holding me close to his chest and looking up into the sky that downpours upon us.
"Rain therapy, I guess it really does work," Bucky remarks.
"I would say I told you so, but-" I'm cut off by Bucky suddenly grabbing me by the waist and throwing me over his shoulder.
"What was that?" Bucky calls up to me, spinning me slightly and only making me giggle louder.
"Bucky, I'm in a dress!" I protest. He slaps my ass smugly and begins to walk with me still over his shoulder back to the compound.
"I know, let's get you out of that"
As my laugh tumbles out of my mouth, it twirls and dances and gets lost with the pounding of the rain and the rolling of the thunder. Once again, I'm in the debt of the rain, and I can't help but smile at it gratefully as my best friend and the love of my life walks triumphantly with me over his shoulder into the midst of Tony's nice party. Neither of us care about the looks we receive, though. Neither of us even notices.
All we see is the rain and each other.

————————————————————————-
Being autistic has drawbacks for a normal person, but for an actress in Marvel movies, it was tough. I’m proud of who I am but I didn’t want the pitying looks, the comments or being stuck as only getting the “autistic” role so for my own sake, I’m not super open about it.
My parents are ashamed of it so they never told anyone and I was forced to mask anytime I was around anyone. Not even Scar knew, and she was my best friend, almost a mother figure to me. I didn’t want her to think any different of me. She’s known me since i was 7 and played her on screen adopted daughter in Iron Man 2.
We’re filming Endgame right now. I’m on my way to set with Scarlett. Today has been a rough day for me so far as my parents woke me up by screaming at me which then caused me to struggle in keeping my mask up. Scar picked me up and I’m already exhausted, I’ve caught myself stimming a few times and quickly stopped it.
When we pulled into the parking lot, i grabbed my bag and walked with her through set to our trailers where we left our stuff and we’re immediately shuffled to makeup and costumes.
“Oh shit…” I mutter staring at the costume in Erica’s hand. “I didn’t realize it was a fight scene today…”
“Babe.” Erica, my assistant and on set guardian says. She’s known about me since the first day which was when i was 7. “You’ve known about this for a week. Are you okay?”
“I’m super over stimulated right now…” I murmur tapping my leg in sets of 7, a common stim for me.
“Let’s do hair and makeup first okay? Keep you out of the costume until the last second okay?” I nod and the two of us move to hair and makeup where Scarlett is getting her hair done.
“Hey, where’s your costume kid?” She asks looking over at me.
“I uh-“ I glance at Erica who steps in for me quickly.
“It had a small tear in it so it’s getting fixed quickly.” Scarlet merely hums in response and I sit. Getting my wig on and makeup done is awful, having everyone touching me and all their voices so close to me ears. I feel a soft hand on my cheek and peek my eyes open to see Scar staring at me in concern.
“Stop grinding your jaw babe…” I release my jaw, not even realizing i had been doing it. “You okay love? You disappeared for a bit there.” I respond with a hum, my voice disappearing from within. “Let’s get your costume on and to set okay?”
I look around quickly and don’t see Erica, Scarlet must see the panic as she quickly says. “She got called away in an emergency. I’m going to be your guardian today.” I nod, feeling the panic bubble up in my chest, but give her a soft smile.
The two of us make our way to my trailer and she helps me quickly slip into the suit. I immediately want to rip it off as it’s skin tight and an uncomfortable material. It feels like it’s digging into my skin and pulling it away as if it’s velcro and my skin is the other side. I take a deep breath and come out to see Scar in costume waiting. “Ready?” I nod and we head to set where I realize it’s a busy day, all original 6 avengers, Lizzie, both Paul’s, Gwen and Cobie are all there. I internally groan as immediately, the girls are coming over to me and Scar talking a mile a minute. I stand next to Scarlett silently until Lizzie turns to me. “Hey kiddo. Ready to fight? We have to fly today.” My eyes widen for a moment before i force a smile and nod at the fake red head in front of me.
“What? Cat got your tongue?” This makes everyone around us laugh but it makes me feel awful. I have no voice, it comes and goes, when it’s gone, my parents ridicule me, I get hit. I look down as i feel my tears well up in my eyes and blink rapidly trying to will them away. I thank god silently when Joe calls us to places which means i get away from the now very suddenly concerned looking Scarlett, Lizzie and Cobie. I’m stuck with Renner as I get rigged up, the feeling of being sick suddenly appearing as more people touch me.
I feel the lump in my throat tighten and the feeling of the harness wrapped around me suddenly makes me feel like it’s constricting my breathing and everyone around me disappeared as my hands flung to the harness, in my panic my hands struggled with the buckle which just made me more infuriated and grunts started coming out as my tears blurred my vision.
I feel a set of hands on mine holding them down, i scream and rip mine away and start scratching at my throat trying to rip it open to get a breath. My eyes started blacking out and the last thing i see is Scarlett’s panicked face as she tries to grab at my hands before it all goes black.
Scarlett’s POV
I know something is off with y/n. Not off but just that she was different. I have had a feeling it was autism for a while now, today proved that to me.
She was silent the whole car ride to set, normally she’d be singing along the radio but she wouldn’t even let me turn it on today. As soon as we got to set she locked herself in her trailer without a word, the next time i saw her, she looked panicked and while she was getting her hair and makeup done she disappeared fully before i brought her back. She has days where she goes mute, she just calls them her bad days, they usually happen on days she has arguments with her parents but normally she can still communicate to me in different ways but today she was completely gone. It got worse as soon as she realized Erica was gone. Walking on to set, she tended up and i saw her tapping her thigh every once in a while. The comment that Lizzie made would normally make her laugh, her reaction today was off.
I watched her from the corner of my eye but had to look away for a second before i heard Renner.
“Y/N!! What are you doing?! You’re going to hurt yourself!” I whip my head around and my heart sinks as i see y/n struggling with her harness, her hands are shaking violently, tears streaming down her face, her eyes are glazed over. I bolt over and grab her hands gently.
“Y/n baby, stop. You’ve got to stop my love.” She rips her hands out of mine and starts clawing at her throat which is when i notice she’s not breathing properly. She’s barely able to get a small breath. Instincts kick in for me and i turn to the cast and crew crowding her. “Give her space. Now. I need someone to set up a dark room with minimal sound and her clothes she was wearing this morning as well as the blanket from my trailer. A cold cloth and her wig taken off.” I turn around as she starts to collapse, i grab her arm and quickly wrap an arm around her waist. “Now!”
It’s a bit of a blur after that honestly, the next thing i know, im alone with her in the green room after everything is unplugged and blankets are draped over the windows. Her wig is already off and someone hands me my blanket and her clothes before silently leaving. I help her unconscious body out of the suit and into her clothes before draping my weighted blanket over her body. I sit back and stare at her, not touching her at all but close enough if she needs me.
It felt like hours but looking at my watch, it shows it’s only been 20 minutes when she finally wakes up.
My heart is beating what feels like a million mile a minute with panic as i watch her blue eyes flutter open before she looks around the room for a moment. Her hand comes out of the blanket and she starts tapping her thigh again, her head nodding along to each tap. She squeezes her eyes shut and i can hear her voice mumbling. “I’m safe. I’m here. I’m y/n.” Over and over again, i quietly cough to get her attention and she quickly sits up and her head whips up to look at me with wide eyes, both hands start scratching at the other wrist. “Oh my god…”
“Baby, you are safe. It’s just me.”
“No… no… no no no no no no no no.” She started tugging her hair and rocking slightly. “They’re going to kill me… you aren’t supposed to know…”
I quickly scoot over and grab her hands before pulling her into my chest, she tenses for a moment before melting into my arms. “I can’t hide it anymore Scar…”
“I know baby… I know.” I mutter into her hair swaying us back and forth slightly.
“I’m autistic…”
“Oh baby i know…” She freezes and looks at me with wide eyes. I can ready the fear in her blue eyes. “You hide it really really well but I’m basically your mom my love. I had suspicions but didn’t want to push you into telling me. Today was too much.” She nods burying herself back into me. “I need you to know that I will always listen to you. That if you ever feel like that again, you can tell me and i’ll get you out of it. Baby seeing you pass out was terrifying. I need you to know that if you’re that overwhelmed, that you do not have to do all that.”
“But… my parents don’t want everyone knowing… they’re all gonna know now…” She mumbles into me, my heart cracks.
“Baby being autistic is not a bad thing. It makes you even more amazing. It’s not something to be ashamed of at all. You are allowed to be who you are. To stim when your emotions are too high. To have bad days. I am here to show you that.” I say looking her directly into her eyes. “I’m here to support you.”
Tears welled up in her eyes as she nodded quickly. She sat up and started tapping her thigh as she stared at me. “This is my favourite stim, it’s really subtle but it calms me down… i count the most important people in my life.” She then looks down at her hand as she taps each finger. “Scarlett.” Tap. “Lizzie.” Tap. “Renner.” Tap. “Gwen.” Tap. “Cobie.” Tap. “Rob.” Tap. “Rosie.” Tap. “It reminds me that you guys would love me, no matter how broken or weird i am because i know how much you care.” She looked up at me through her eyelashes. “Another one is tapping here.” She taps her chest right above her heart twice. “Right here.” She does the tap to each word. “This is where you sit in my body. I usually only do this one when I’m not wearing my necklace. Playing with that is the stim i can do out in public.” I pulled her into my arms again as I cried.
“Oh baby…”
“You’ve always been my safe space Scar…”
“And i will be your safe space for the rest of eternity.”
We sit in silence for a few minutes before she pulls away with a smile. “Thank you. For learning how to help me.”
“You are more than welcome my love. Let’s go home and have a calm day okay?” She nods before standing up, pulling my weighted blanket over herself. I stand and wrapping my arms around her waist, the two of us make our way out of the room to find Lizzie standing not too far away, crying into Gwyneths arms. Y/n instantly runs over to her and wraps her arms around the crying woman. Lizzie jumps before she turns and sees who it is and wraps the girl into her arms.
“I’m so sorry bug. I shouldn’t have made that comment. I know how bad your parents are.” Y/n shakes her head pulling back and squeezes Lizzie’s hands. “Liz that wasn’t what caused that.” She takes a glance back at me before taking a deep breath and looks back at Lizzie. “I’m autistic and I was overstimulated and everything was just too much. I won’t lie, the comment did hurt a little but i know you didn’t say it in a mean way. You didn’t hurt me, memories of my parents saying stuff hurt me. But not you.” Lizzie’s eyes widen and she glances at me before she nods breathing to calm herself down. “If you ever need to talk or are struggling you can talk to me bug.”
Y/n nods with a small smile. “I know Liz.”
“Hey. Me too.” We all turn our head to see Gwyneth with a pout on her face. “You scared the shit out of me kiddo. Never do that again. Understand?” She pulls y/n’s laughing form into her arms.
“I understand mother Paltrow.” She says making us all chuckle.
Y/n pulls away and biting her cheek looks at me. “I- i uh- I’m not ready to face everyone else yet…”
“They already left bug. It’s just us four left.” Lizzie said smoothing the crazy hair down on y/n’s head. “I couldn’t leave worried i hurt you and Gwyn couldn’t leave me alone but everyone else left to give you privacy. Scarlett went full mama bear mode and screamed at some people for trying to push her into anything. It was great.” Y/n chuckled, which brings a grin to my face.
“Of course you did. But i wouldn’t trade you for the world.”
“I love you too baby.” I say kissing her head softly.

Chapter 1
“Who can solve this equation”
I looked up at the Board in my math class as I wrote down the equation. I hated math class with a passion. It’s not like I wasn’t good at it, it just got boring. Plus 6th-grade math isn’t too fun. I saw my friend Addy peering over my shoulder to see my work.
“Hey!”
“What? I’m stuck and I need help” Addy looked at you with her puppy dog eyes. She has been my best friend since 2nd grade and we have been inseparable ever since. She knew everything about me, including what my dad actually did for a living. My name is Y/N Coulson, daughter of Phil Coulson, S.H.I.E.L.D Agent. It has been me and dad since I was born, my mom died in childbirth. because his job was part of a weird agency, it was easier to tell my friends he was a businessman who would work with the government. Which was kind of true. I let Addy look at my paper as she copied down what I was writing when I heard the class phone ring. I didn’t think much of it until I heard my teacher say “Y/N, pack up and head to the office.” I never got called down to the office unless my dad was here to pick me up. Which was weird because I have been on my own for a while because he was on a mission. I got up and started packing my things.
“Do you know what’s going on?” Addy asked, looking at me.
“I have no clue. Maybe my dad got home earlier? I’ll text you once I find out.” I said as I waved goodbye. I made my way down to the office. As I approached it. I saw my dad holding my to-go bag. I had it in case of emergency but it hasn’t been used until now.
“Dad!” I ran up hugging him. He returned the Favor as he kissed the crown of my head.
“Hey waffle,” he said back. I loved waffles when I was in my terrible twos as my dad called it, it was the only thing that made me happy. He kinda took on the nickname since I was one of the only things that made him happy.
“Why do you have my Togo bag?” I said looking at him.
“There is a family emergency and we have to go.” I looked at him like a deer in headlights. Family emergency was the co-word we had for ‘you are coming on a mission with me/the world is going to end’.
“This is a joke, right? Like a drill or something?” I said as he nodded his head at the secretary and started signing the extended leave of absence form.
“I’m afraid not sweetie. We are heading into the quinjet but before that, we have to speak to uncle Tony.” Now don’t get me wrong, I like Tony. Only met him a few times but he was cool. But not uncle Tony vibes. He probably just wanted to let me know I was going to speak to Ironman shortly. My dad handed the secretary the Papers as he took my hand and exited the building.
“How bad is it?” I said looking at dad. He just squeezed my hand in response.
This was going to be a bumpy ride.

Translation: “Detka.” Baby.
Word count: 2,860.
Masterlist.
It was a typical Friday night, the Avengers were gathered at their favorite bar in uptown, decompressing after a rather hectic week when Natasha Romanoff approached a sullen looking Wanda Maximoff.
"Hey Witchy, what's got you all grumpy?" Natasha teasingly asks the younger woman who is currently sporting an angry pout as she glares across the bar at two figures in the distance.
"I'm not grumpy," Wanda retorts, never removing her eyes from you as she answers Natasha. Eyebrows furrowing more than before as a woman rests her hand on your arm, "it's just, who even is that with Y/N," she says, arms crossing on her chest.
Natasha let's out a small laugh at the sight of her increasingly pouty friend, "no clue Wands, but maybe this is a sign for you to get off your ass and finally ask Y/N out, or like you're seeing now, someone will definitely sweep her off her feet," the older woman says, as she places a comforting hand on the Sokavian's shoulder.
"W-what?" Wanda sputters slightly, finally tearing her eyes off of you turning to look at her friend so fast she's surprised she didn't get whiplash, "Nat, what are you even talking about? I don't like Y/N, that's insane!" The younger girl says nervously.
Natasha chuckles at the younger girl's expression, her voice softening as she speaks, "Wanda, it's clear to anyone that has eyes and half a brain that you love each other, it's just you two idiots that have failed to realize your true feelings for the other," she says, squeezing her shoulder with a smile.
"Wait, she likes me?" Wanda asks, eyes wide in shock.
At this, the older woman laughs, her hands coming to her face in exasperation, "yes you dork! She loves you just as much as you love her. My goodness, it's so sickening to see! I seriously don't know how either of you haven't noticed, I mean with all the longing stares, the soft smiles thrown at each other when you guys think no one is watching, the overall adoration. Truly and unbelievably sickening!" Natasha says with a playful smirk.
"I-" Wanda begins, cutting herself short as she looks at you, standing across the bar, polite smile on your lips as the woman that is in front of you continues talking, "I don't think she likes me like that Nat," Wanda whispers, eyes looking at you sadly.
Natasha frowns at her friend's expression, her own eyes flitting towards you, not understanding why the brunette still looks so upset after she just revealed that you feel the same way for each other, "Wanda, I can assure you, she definitely likes you," Natasha says with conviction.
The younger girl sighs, "I appreciate what you're trying to do, but maybe you've got it all wrong," she says, eyes casting down as she can longer stand to see someone else flirt with you.
At this, Natasha blows out a breath of air then says, "god, I have to do everything," and begins making her way towards you.
Wanda's eyes widen in surprise, "Natasha, wait!" She yells, her hand reaching out to stop the redhead, but it's too late. The woman is already walking towards you with resolve.
As you're listening to the woman that approached you at the bar drone on about who knows what, you notice a figure making its way towards you and you let out a sigh of relief as you realize who it is, "Nat, hey," you say softly, your eyes lighting up at the prospect of getting out of this unwanted conversation.
"Y/N/N," she greets with a smile, "it's getting late, we should start making our way over to the compound," the redhead says, smile widening as she notices your eyes soften in appreciation at her interruption.
"Okay, should I help you regroup?" You ask, looking at your mentor with a smile.
"Yes, let's gather everyone up so we can go," Natasha says, her eyes then glancing to the woman that was speaking to you, "I'll be taking this one off your hands now, we need to be going."
The woman pouts, "why so soon? We were just starting to get to know each other well," she whines.
Your brows crease for a second, then an awkward smile takes over your face as you try to hold back an incredulous look, you definitely weren't getting to know each other. "I know, I know and I'm sorry, but I really must go," you mutter, trying to sound as apologetic as you possibly can without actually feeling any kind of remorse, slowly trying to shuffle towards your mentor.
The woman sighs, "it's okay cutie, I know you're a superhero and you need your rest, so go," she says, as she leans forward grabbing your face to place a kiss on your cheek, causing you to go as stiff as a board at the unwelcome contact, her lips lingering on you longer than you'd like.
"Uh, thanks?" You say with confusion as soon as she pulls back, Natasha blinking, slightly bewildered at the woman's audacity.
"Come on," the redhead says a second later, composing herself immediately, grabbing your hand to pull you away from the woman.
"What the fuck," you mutter, as you're dragged by Natasha. Reaching Wanda you look at her with your eyebrows furrowed, "did you see that?" You ask your best friend, grimacing as you wipe your cheek.
"Yes," Wanda responds sadly, but you don't get to dwell on her response as she quickly moves away from you and makes her way around the bar with Natasha to gather the other Avengers so you can all make your way home.
Once the team has been gathered by the trio, you three make it a priority to make sure you all make it back to the compound safely.
When you arrive home you help your teammates into their sleeping quarters. Making sure they're taken care of as good as possible, setting aspirin and glasses of water down by the bedsides of those who will inevitably have hangovers in the morning.
As soon as you finish making your rounds, you make your way into the kitchen to pour yourself a glass of water and finally take a breather after the exhausting night you've had.
Granted you didn't drink or do much of anything at the bar like the rest of the team, but the social interaction of it all finally catches up with you, weighing you down.
As you stand in the kitchen, gripping the sink, head down in exhaustion, you hear steps make their way into the area causing you to stand up straight and look over your shoulder at the person walking into the space.
"Hey Max," you greet softly, as your eyes land on your best friend, "what are you still doing up?" You question, turning your body to face the woman.
Wanda smiles softly at the nickname, "I just came for a glass of water," she says, eyes observing your face, exhaustion written all over your features, "what about you? Are you doing okay?" She asks, a small frown of worry present on her face.
You lean against the kitchen sink, arms crossing on your chest, "I'm good," you smile tiredly, "although, as eventful as today was, I can't seem to fall asleep, so I thought taking a small breather and a glass of water would help," you chuckle.
Wanda nods in acknowledgment, as she makes her way through the kitchen, getting herself the glass of water she came for, standing across from you when she does, "yeah, I get what you mean," she says, taking a small sip of water, "today was something," she whispers, clearing her throat.
"You're telling me," you chuckle, shaking your head, "all I wanted was to hang out with you," you begin, missing the blush on Wanda's cheeks, "but I got bombarded at the bar and I just couldn't seem to get away. Like I know it comes with being an Avenger and all, but that woman would just not stop talking about herself and I couldn't find it in myself to politely pull away. Any time I tried, she would just put her hand on my arm and hold me there, it was truly uncomfortable," you rush out, looking at your best friend with a silly smile.
Wanda stares at you lovingly, then shakes her head after a minute, regaining composure, "wait, so you didn't like her?" She asks slowly.
You shake your head, "god no. I mean no offense to her, she was pretty I guess, but she's just not my type," you say with a casual shrug, "she was way too drunk. She kept talking about her ex the whole time, saying how dating an Avenger was for sure going to make him jealous. I didn't know how to tell her that I certainly did not want to date her. Thank god for Natasha, she came at the right moment to intervene," you smile.
Wanda lets out a breath she didn't know she was holding and says, "but she kissed you," her eyebrows furrowed at the memory.
You shiver slightly and say, "yeah, she did. But it definitely wasn't welcome. I think she was too drunk to realize what she was doing," you grimace, and with Wanda's silence you decide you should bid her goodbye and head to your room, "anyway, it's late, we should get some sleep, goodnight Wands," you whisper, moving forward to hug your best friend.
As soon as she's in your arms, Wanda all but melts into the embrace, your towering frame causing her head to rest comfortably against your chest.
After standing in each other's arms for a few minutes Wanda pulls back slightly to look up at you, her green eyes shining with something you've never seen before and maybe it's the calm and the quiet, maybe it's your exhaustion, maybe it's the feelings you've pushed down one too many times. You're not quite sure what it is, but you lean down and press your lips softly against Wanda's, a sigh escaping her as your lips lightly brush.
Soon after your brain catches up with your body and you pull away immediately, "oh my god, shit Wanda, I am so sorry, I didn't-" you begin rambling, but your words are cut off by Wanda pulling your face down to hers to meet your lips in a passionate kiss, both of your feelings pouring into this long awaited moment.
As soon as lack of air becomes an issue, you both reluctantly pull away, "wow," you whisper, eyes closed, a dopey smile on your face that causes Wanda's heart to flutter and laughter to bubble out.
"Wow indeed," she whispers back, an enamored look in her eyes as she waits for yours to open.
Once you open your eyes, you look at your best friend in a whole new way, "wait, does this mean what I think it means?" You ask softly, wanting to confirm that your best friend does indeed feel the same way that you feel for her.
Wanda laughs softly, "if this is your way of asking me if I'm in love with you, then yes, that's exactly what it means," she says, lightly biting her lip, causing your eyes to cast downwards in distraction.
"I can't believe this," you say after a moment, "I was so afraid to admit that I love you in fear that you'd reject me and I'd ruin our friendship, but you love me?" You ask with a big grin.
Wanda's hands cup your face softly as she looks into your bright eyes, "yes detka, I'm in love with you," she beams, thumbs rubbing soothing circles on your cheeks, "I think I have been for 2 years, but I guess I just admitted it to myself today after seeing that woman flirt with you, and maybe also with a little help from Nat," she mutters the last part shyly.
You let out a laugh at the sight of Wanda's reddened cheeks and pull her in by the waist, her arms automatically encircling your neck, "I love that woman, who knew she’d be such a matchmaker," you smile widely, "we should definitely thank her when we see her tomorrow," you say softly, as you lean your forehead on Wanda's, getting lost in a sea of green.
"No need," you hear a voice say from the shadows, and both you and Wanda pull away from each other to stand side by side. "I'm amazing, I know," Natasha says with a slight smirk as she walks into the kitchen. "Also I'm glad you two idiots have finally confessed your feelings for each other," she says as she stands in front of you and Wanda, "I'm happy for you both, you deserve this," Natasha smiles, placing a hand on each of your shoulders, "also Wanda don't hurt Y/N," your mentor tells the brunette seriously, maintaining eye contact for longer than you'd like as you see Wanda slightly begin to fidget.
"Okay Nat, I think she gets it," you cut in with a small, nervous chuckle. Reaching for the redhead's hand that's on your shoulder to squeeze and hold.
Wanda smiles at you appreciatively, then at Natasha a second later, "Y/N/N, it's okay, I see where she's coming from, she's been your mentor for longer than I've known you, she's just looking out for you," the brunette says, "thanks for looking out for her Nat," Wanda whispers honestly.
Natasha nods with a small smile on her face.
Then suddenly she turns to look at you with a serious glare, the action causing you to drop her hand and step back a little in surprise and slight fear, "and you," Natasha begins, pointing a finger at your chest, "you better not hurt her either. I know that you mean well most of the time and that things easily go over your head," she says and you pout.
"Rude," you mutter.
"But please, don't be an idiot, be rational. Always remember, both of you, that communication is key, talk things out before jumping to conclusions, listen to what the other has to say and all that good stuff because this is the last thing I will say to you both as relationship advice or whatever. So please, don't hurt each other, be mindful of one another and for all that is holy, use protection," she ends with a smirk as she sees both you and Wanda stutter, faces flushed red in embarrassment.
"Mom," you whine jokingly, causing Natasha to let out a laugh. "Thanks Natty," you say after a brief moment, pulling the shorter woman into your arms, "for everything," you whisper, placing a chaste kiss on her cheek. "Also, we're both girls, so protection doesn't really work that way, I can't even get her pregnant. So really, you're worrying for nothing, we're all good on that front. But also you don't even know if Wanda wants children, like what if she wants to have my-" you begin rambling, but Wanda's hand on your mouth stops you.
"W-wait, no. We're not- we haven't-," Wanda stutters, shaking her head, "I- what I'm trying to say is, thank you Nat," Wanda smiles with flushed cheeks.
Natasha laughs at both women in good nature, "no problem kiddos, now get some rest, it's late," the redhead says as she walks towards her sleeping quarters.
Wanda removes her hand from your mouth when Natasha is out of ear shot and slaps your arms softly, "oh my god, you're such an idiot," she blushes.
You laugh as you pull her into your arms to stop her assault, "what? What'd I do?" You ask teasingly, "what I said was valid, or what you don't want to have my kids?" You squint playfully causing Wanda to hide her face in her hands as you move forward to hug her, swaying your bodies from side to side lightly in jest.
"Oh my god," the brunette groans, "I am not having this conversation with you right now," she says rolling her eyes as she moves back to grab your hand to pull you to her room.
"So when, tomorrow morning?" You continue teasing.
"No, shut up," she continues grumbling, causing you to laugh.
"Okay, so wait then, where are we going?" You ask.
"To my room," Wanda says still dragging you.
"To make babies?!" You ask excitedly as she pulls you through her door.
"I hate you," she mutters red in the face and you let out an even louder laugh.
"I love you too sweetheart," you say, as you bring her into you to kiss her softly.
When you pull away Wanda looks at you with a smile, "I love you, now it's time to sleep," she says as she pulls you to bed.
After a few minutes of peace and quiet, Wanda thinking you're already asleep. You sit up slightly to teasingly whisper into her ear from behind, "so do you want to have my kids?" Causing Wanda to groan as she shoves your face away from her.

Stupid in Love
Tumblr media
This was requested, but I'd deleted it by accident
Natasha Romanoff x Reader (pronouns not specified)
Summary: Based on Stupid In Love by MAX and HUH YUNJIN
Warnings: Just fluff, and a singular argument
-------------
You lounged on the couch in the Avengers compound, idly flipping through a magazine while Natasha Romanoff, the infamous Black Widow, meticulously cleaned her weapons nearby. There was something oddly comforting about the rhythmic clinks and clatters of metal against metal.
"You know," you remarked, without looking up, "most people have hobbies that don't involve disassembling firearms."
Natasha chuckled softly, her focus still on her task. "Well, most people aren't trained assassins, darling."
You glanced up, meeting her gaze with a smirk. "Touché. But you could at least try knitting or something less lethal."
She set down her gun, finally turning her attention fully to you. "And risk losing my edge? I think not."
You laughed, shaking your head. "Fair point. Wouldn't want you to lose that edge, Natasha. It's what makes you so… dangerous."
Natasha raised an eyebrow, a playful glint in her eyes. "Dangerous, huh? Is that what you're into?"
You shrugged, feigning nonchalance. "Eh, I've always had a thing for danger. Keeps life interesting."
She smirked, moving closer until she was standing right in front of you. "Well, lucky for you, I'm full of surprises."
Your breath caught in your throat as she leaned in, her lips tantalizingly close to yours. "Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful," you whispered, your voice barely above a murmur, the words slipping out almost unconsciously as you found yourself lost in her gaze.
There was a flicker of something in Natasha's expression, a hint of shyness that you hadn't seen before. She seemed almost… flustered.
You cleared your throat, trying to push down the sudden surge of nerves. "'Cause feelings are so hard to fight," you continued, your voice a little stronger now, "Know it's a little soon, maybe," you added, your heart pounding in your chest, "But I'd go anywhere you take me. Long as you're calling me, baby," you finished, your voice soft but steady.
And in that moment, as Natasha's lips met yours in a gentle kiss, you knew that crazy or not, there was nowhere else you'd rather be.
----
Two Years Later
You sat together on the balcony of your shared apartment, the lights of New York City casting a warm glow around you, you felt a surge of affection for the woman beside you.
"Hey, Nat," you began, turning to face her with a playful smile, "Let's get married in Vegas."
Natasha raised an eyebrow, a hint of amusement dancing in her eyes. "Married in Vegas?" she echoed, a small smile tugging at the corners of her lips.
"Yeah," you said, excitement bubbling up inside you. "We don't need a guest list, or fancy invitations. I don't wanna think too much," you continued, your voice eager and laced with anticipation. "Let's just do it, you know? Keep it simple."
A thoughtful expression crossed Natasha's face as she considered your suggestion. "I like the sound of that," she admitted, reaching out to gently thread her fingers through yours.
"And," she added, "Let's get matching tattoos while we're at it. I don't wanna think it through," she continued, her voice filled with the rare excitement at the prospect of marking the occasion in such a permanent way.
Your smile widened at your suggestion, a spark of amusement lighting up her eyes. "Matching tattoos, huh? I suppose I could be persuaded."
You grinned, feeling a surge of affection for the woman who had captured your heart, giving her a soft kiss. "Baby, I'm so stupid in love," you confessed softly, against her lips.
Natasha's smile softened, her gaze holding yours with an intensity that took your breath away. "I know the feeling," she murmured, leaning in to press a gentle kiss to your lips.
You both sighed softly, a hint of disappointment lingering in the air.
"That's not happening anytime soon, is it?" you murmured, a touch of resignation in your voice.
Natasha shook her head, her expression reflective. "Unfortunately not," she replied, her tone tinged with regret.
You shared a fleeting glance, a silent acknowledgment passing between you. The demands of your roles as Avengers often meant putting personal plans on hold.
"But hey," you said, offering her a small smile, nudging her in the process, "at least we have each other."
Natasha's lips curved into a gentle smile, her eyes softening with affection. "Always"
So stupid in love with you (stupid in love, I'm so stupid in love)
I'm so stupid in love
So stupid in love with you (stupid in love, I'm so stupid in love)
I'm so stupid in love
---
The sun hung low in the sky as you waited for Natasha to return from her mission. The anticipation bubbled within you, and as you heard the familiar sound of her footsteps approaching, you couldn't help but feel a surge of excitement.
"Hi, you came," you greeted her with a bright smile, unable to contain your joy at seeing her safe and sound.
Natasha's eyes softened as she met your gaze, despite her tense shoulders, a fondness evident in her expression. "Babe, I've been waiting for you all day," she replied, her voice warm with affection as she closed the distance between you.
"So lean my way," you continued, reaching out to gently take her hand, "and let me just take away all the pain."
A soft chuckle escaped Natasha's lips as she allowed herself to be pulled into your embrace. "I know it's a bit soon for vows," she admitted, her voice soft but earnest.
With a mischievous twinkle in your eye, you reached into your pocket and pulled out a pair of paper rings, presenting them to her with a cheeky grin.
Natasha's laughter rang out, a melody that warmed your heart as she slipped one of the paper rings onto her finger, mirroring your actions. "Only you would come up with something like this," she remarked, her voice filled with affection. "Paper rings are good for now," she added, a playful glint in her eyes.
"But know, I'm already down the aisle," you grinned, as you gave her tense muscles a massage, "'Cause I'm so stupid in love."
---
A few years had passed since that day on the balcony when you had jokingly presented Natasha with paper rings. Now, standing side by side with her in front of your closest friends, you couldn't help but marvel at how far you'd come. The love between you had only deepened with time, and today, you were ready to take the next step together.
Clint and Yelena stood beside Natasha, offering her their unwavering support. Wanda, Bucky, and Pietro stood with you, their presence a reassuring presence in this intimate moment. Alongside them were Steve, Tony, Bruce, Kate, Peter, Pepper and America , each one there to celebrate your love.
You were dressed in a sharp suit, feeling a bit out of place but immeasurably happy nonetheless. Natasha, in a simple yet elegant dress that was far from a traditional wedding gown, looked radiant as ever.
The setting was lowkey, just as you both preferred. There were no extravagant decorations or elaborate ceremonies—just the people who mattered most to you, gathered together to witness your union.
As Steve, your friend and mentor, stepped forward to officiate the ceremony, your heart raced with anticipation. This was it—the moment you had been waiting for.
"Let's get married in Vegas," you whispered to Natasha, reminiscing on when you had dreamed of this together. "We don't need a guest list, or fancy invitations. I don't wanna think too much."
Natasha's eyes sparkled with joy as she met your gaze, a smile gracing her lips. "Let's do it," she replied softly, her voice filled with love and anticipation. "And let's get matching tattoos," she added with a playful grin. "I don't wanna think it through."
You grinned back, feeling a rush of love for the woman who stood before you. "Baby, I'm so stupid in love," you whispered again, tears of joy forming in both your eyes.
As Steve declared you as wife and wife, you both leaned in to share a sweet kiss, sealing your vows in front of your friends and loved ones.
After the kiss, you and Natasha exchanged a knowing look before slipping out of the ceremony, hand in hand. Together, you made your way to a nearby tattoo shop, where you sealed your bond with matching tattoos—a simple yet powerful reminder of the love that bound you together.
And as you left the shop, your fingers intertwined and the ink still fresh on your skin, you knew that this was just the beginning of your journey together. With Natasha by your side, you were ready to face whatever the future held.
--
After the whirlwind of your wedding day, you and Natasha found yourselves on a plane bound for Paris—a city of romance and enchantment, the perfect backdrop for your honeymoon adventure.
As the plane soared through the clouds, you couldn't contain your excitement, your heart fluttering with anticipation for the journey ahead. Beside you, Natasha's hand found yours, her touch grounding you in the reality of this new chapter in your lives together.
"Book a flight to Paris only one way," Natasha teased, a playful glint in her eyes as she leaned in closer to you. The words hung in the air, a bold declaration of your shared commitment to exploring the world together, accompanied by a hint of mischief that made your heart race even faster.
A smile tugged at your lips as you met Natasha's gaze, the depth of your love reflected in the depths of her eyes. "What'd you think about sharing our last name?" you teased back, your tone light and playful.
"I think I'd like that," she replied, her voice filled with mock seriousness, before breaking into a grin. It was a response that spoke volumes, a playful acknowledgment of the bond you shared and the joy you found in each other's company.
"Let's get straight to 'I do,'" Natasha continued, which led to you grabbing her by the waist and planting a firm kiss
"I'm sure we already did that babe"
"Mhmm" She mumbled against your lips, "And I'm so happy we did"
"And now its our honeymoon" you said, half reminding yourself that this was real.
"Hey, what do you say we skip the touristy stuff and go straight for the thrill? Bungee jumping off the Eiffel Tower, perhaps?" she proposed with a grin, her adventurous spirit shining through.
Your eyes widened in surprise at her suggestion, but a thrill of excitement coursed through you at the thought of experiencing such an adrenaline rush with Natasha by your side.
"Alright"you agreed
"Seriously?"
"I don't wanna think it through," you grinned, knowing that if you did think, you would probably not do it.
And later that night, while the whole of Paris was asleep, you found yourself on the top of the Eiffel tower, with a cord attached to you.
"Baby" you said as second thoughts began to race through your mind.
Natasha, however, paid no heed to your nervousness, shooting you a mischiveious smirk before plunging
"See you on the other side, babe."
"I'm stupid in love" you screamed as you followed, plummeting towards the ground below.
So stupid in love with you (stupid in love, I'm so stupid in love)
I'm so stupid in love
So stupid in love with you (stupid in love, I'm so stupid in love)
I'm so stupid in love
---
"You never listen to me!" Nat's voice rang out, "All you care about is yourself!"
The accusation stung, and before you could stop yourself, a retort slipped past your lips. "Maybe if you weren't so controlling, I'd actually want to listen!"
The words hung in the air, heavy with resentment and hurt.
"I can't do this anymore," Natasha finally said, her voice barely above a whisper. "Maybe we made a mistake."
The words hit you like a punch to the gut, and before you could stop yourself, you lashed out. "Maybe you're right. Maybe we never should have gotten married. Maybe I should've never even come home"
"Go, I never asked you to come," Natasha shot back, her tone cold and cutting.
"Yeah, I will," you replied, your words laced with defiance as you yanked open the door and stormed out into the night.
For a moment, the air was thick with tension as the door slammed shut behind you, the sound echoing in the empty room. In the silence that followed, both you and Natasha stood frozen, the weight of your words hanging heavy in the air.
But as the moments passed, the gravity of what had just transpired began to sink in. And with hurry in her usually solicited footsteps, she rushed forwards to the door
At the same time, you turned around, pushing the door open, the soft click echoing in the silence of the room.
Without a word, Natasha stepped forward, closing the distance between you with hesitant steps. And as she reached out to you, a silent apology in her eyes, you knew that despite the hurt and the anger, your love for each other was stronger than any argument.
With a heavy heart, you took her hand, allowing her to pull you into a hug. Tears glistened in both your eyes as you held each other close, the weight of your words still lingering in the air.
"I'm sorry"
"I'm sorry too," Natasha murmured, her voice barely above a whisper, "I never meant to hurt you."
You nodded, your own apology catching in your throat. "I know," you whispered back, your voice filled with emotion.
"But, I'm scared" she finally admitted, as she pulled away, her eyes searching yours for reassurance, "So tell me right now, before we come down,"
"Come down?"
"Can we make it work, baby?" she iterates
You grab her hands in yours, smiling at her softly" Let's find out."
Can we make it work baby? Let's find out
Tell me right now, before we come down
---
A Year Later, On Your Anniversary
Feedback echoed as you tapped on the microphone, drawing the attention of the crowd.
"Um, hi everyone," you began, your voice wavering slightly with nerves. "Thanks for being here tonight to celebrate with us."
You inhaled, " So, um-, I'm not the greatest at these kind of stuff, that's more of Tony's thing"
" I'm going to assume that's a compliment" Tony quipped, sipping on his glass of wine
"Assume whatever Stark" You quipped"
" So, uh-"
Before you could continue, Yelena's voice rang out from the crowd. "Are you sure you're ready for this?" she teased, a playful smirk on her face.
You shot her a playful glare. "Oh, absolutely," you retorted, your tone dripping with sarcasm. " I've managed to save your careless ass on missions, pretty sure this pales in comparison"
Wanda who had observed this playful banter, couldn't resist a playful jab herself. "You're not going to chicken out, are you?" she teased, a smile playing on her lips.
You rolled your eyes, but a smile tugged at the corners of your lips. "Of course not," you replied, a hint of amusement in your voice. "I'll make sure to add 'amateur singer' to my list of talents."
With a playful wink to Natasha, who watched you with a fond smile, you took a deep breath and addressed the crowd one last time. "Before I expose my singing skills , I just want to dedicate this song to the most amazing woman in the world—my beautiful, brilliant, and sometimes infuriating wife, Natasha,"
That earned you a playful glare from your gorgeous wife
" This is Stupid In Love, by, well, be me"
You strummed the first few chords on your guitar
"Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful
There's something about your eyes
Tell me these feelings are mutual|
'Cause feelings are so hard to fight
Know it's a little soon, maybe
But I'd go anywhere you take me
Long as you're calling me, baby
They can all call us crazy"
Your eyes remained on Natasha's, her eyes, too, never leaving yours.
"Let's get married in Vegas
We don't need guest list
I don't wanna think too much
Let's get matching tattoos
I don't wanna think it through
Baby, I'm so stupid in love
Book a flight to Paris only one way
What'd you think about sharing our last name?
Let's get straight to "I do"
I don't wanna think it through
Baby, I'm so stupid in love
So stupid in love with you (stupid rather, so calm down, stupid in love, I'm so stupid in love, we could make it happen)
I'm so stupid in love
So stupid in love with you (stupid rather, so calm down, stupid in love, I'm so stupid in love)
I'm so stupid in love
Stupid in love with you (stupid in love, I'm so stupid in love)
Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful"
Safe to say, that night, roles were reversed, and you were treated to the melodious voice of Natasha.

Tumblr media Tumblr media
“What a week, huh?” Bruce removed his glasses, rubbing his eyes as he leaned over the bar. “I mean, don’t get me wrong, I love Steve. But this has been a lot.”
“Well, to his credit, it’s not every day you turn 105,” you quipped, popping a maraschino cherry in your mouth as you spun on your stool, studying the dwindling party. It was the last unofficial fete tacked on to the end of a week full of jubilant celebrations for the Captain. You and the rest of the team had barely gotten a moment’s rest until now.
Twenty or so people were still gathered in the sunken lounge area of Tony’s penthouse, overlooking the glittering expanse of Manhattan. Most partygoers had taken their leave as the commemorative fireworks over the East River came to an end – now only the Avengers and a few S.H.I.E.L.D. agents remained.
Your eyes swept around the room and landed on Thor and Steve. They stood together behind the sofas, arms crossed and gazes fixed on Tony as he attempted to lift Mjölnir from the coffee table. You couldn’t help but roll your eyes – the three of them seemed to be locked in a never-ending pissing contest. Raucous laughter filled the room as Tony let out a string of curses, his face twisted in concentration, muscles bulging as he put forth all his strength. Usually, Loki would be whispering a witty comment or snide remark in your ear regarding the situation, but he was nowhere to be found. In fact, you hadn’t seen him for hours.
The thought lingered in your mind for only a moment before a piercing pop! sent your heart into overdrive. Just as you prepared yourself for fight mode, you realized Sam had accidentally stepped on one of the balloons littering the floor as he navigated an elderly man through the space.
“For fuck’s sake,” Bruce sighed, wiping up the beer he’d tipped over in shock.
“Got ‘em!” the old man exclaimed as he passed by, casting you a devilish wink that made him suddenly appear years younger. What a handful he must’ve been back in his day, you thought. Hell, considering the trouble he kept giving Sam, he still was.
“Sorry, sorry!” the Falcon laughed as he tightened his grip on the bumbling veteran. “He just had to try some of that damn magic mead.”
You let out a chuckle before turning your attention back to Bruce. You were about to ask for a refill when you sensed an omnipotent presence beside you: Loki, leaning casually against the bar, his signature smirk on his lips, eyes sparking with amusement as he watched an exasperated Sam wrangle the old codger onto the elevator.
“Well, well,” he mused, dipping his head in greeting as he settled on the stool next to you. “At least someone at this soiree seems worthy of Asgardian revelry.”
“Oh no, don’t tell me you’ve gotten into the mead, too,” you teased.
He lifted an eyebrow, the hint of a grin still playing at the corner of his mouth. “Me, let my guard down in the presence of these mortals? Perish the thought,” he scoffed, but you could see a glint of mischief in his gaze as he glanced over your shoulder. “I’m just here for the entertainment.”
You turned, noting that Tony had finally given up his quest to lift that damn hammer. Shaking your head, you popped another cherry in your mouth. “I’m afraid you missed out on quite a show.”
“Ah, yes. The ever-present contest of ego.” Loki puffed out a laugh. “But that’s hardly what I meant, darling.”
His knee brushed against yours as he turned towards you, your heart thumping wildly against your chest as his hand lingered on your leg. Loki leaned closer, his breath ghosting over your cheek.
“You know, no one has ever made such a fuss over my or Thor’s birthday,” he continued, feigning a pout. “And we’re centuries older than Rogers.”
“Only the best for America’s sweetheart,” you commented, trying to maintain some sense of composure as Loki’s thumb began to stroke your inner thigh. The thrill of his touch sent goosebumps along your skin. “Besides, I thought you said you didn’t celebrate birthdays?”
“We don’t.” His eyes sparkled. “It doesn’t mean we wouldn’t appreciate the sentiment.”
“Last call,” Bruce interrupted, refilling your drink before popping the top off a fresh bottle of beer for himself. “Can I get you anything, Loki?”
“No, thank you, Banner,” he replied, never breaking eye contact with you as he took a sip from a glass of wine that you could’ve sworn didn’t exist moments before. You ignored the look Bruce cast in your direction before exiting the bar.
“What is this?” Loki asked curiously, setting down his goblet and picking up one of the cherry stems you’d crafted into a knot.
“Oh, that? It’s just a party trick. They say if you can tie a cherry stem with your tongue, it means you’re a good kisser.”
Loki quirked a brow. Something about the way he looked at you made you feel like you were the only person in the room – in the realm, even. “Tell me, have you found this to be true?”
“Well, I’ve never gotten any complaints,” you laughed, a heat creeping across your cheeks as Loki’s thumb traced circles along your knee. “But come to think of it, I’m not sure I’ve ever met anyone else who can do it.”
Loki held the knot between his thumb and forefinger, studying it for a moment before he spoke again. “What an interesting theory...”
You watched in awe as he delicately plucked two stems from the bowl of cherries, bringing them to his lips with a sly grin. Your breath caught in your throat as you silently observed the seductive way his strong jaw moved, the muscles below his cheek flexing with perfect precision.
After a few moments, Loki parted his lips, slowly revealing a perfect little bow. He placed the twisted stems on the bar, turning to look at you with an air of satisfaction.
“Shall we put your theory to the test, then?”
The suggestive tone in his voice sent a shiver down your spine, the heat in your cheeks spreading throughout your entire body. As you opened your mouth to respond, Loki leaned in, his lips meeting yours in a searing kiss. The sweet taste of wine lingering on his tongue was almost too much to bear, and you found yourself melting into him.
The kiss was soft yet electric, sending waves of pleasure through your body and leaving you breathless. When you finally parted, Loki snickered, quite pleased with himself.
“I do love to be right,” he purred, his lips brushing against your ear as he took your hand and guided you away from the bar. “But I think some further experimentation might be necessary to confirm our hypothesis.”

"Hey, good to see you!" The familiar faced barista greeted as you walked up to the counter. You heard the chime of the entrance as someone else walked into the small cafe, coming to stand behind you as they waited their turn.
"Hey, good morning," you smiled. You looked up to her face to see her eyes set on whoever it was behind you. She looked a bit stunned until she blinked. Once, twice, and then her eyes were back to you as she tittered to herself. You were tempted to look behind you but that would be too obvious, so you decided to just pretend you hadn't seen her unusual change in demeanor.
"The usual or were you wanting something different today?" she asked, now very clearly trying to not look back up at you or the person stood behind you. Was it a celebrity? Maybe just someone she knew? Curiosity was gnawing at you but you keep your eyes forward. "Oh and we are having a Valentine's special, buy one drink, get one free - same with our bakery items."
The reminder of the holiday you'd be spending alone yet again was a bit biting whether you wanted to acknowledge it or not, but you refused to let it show. "Oh, I uh, I'm just getting the one, so," you trailed off with a tight lipped smile.
"Sorry to interrupt," a deep voice came from behind you, causing you to turn and the barista to perk her head up ever so slightly as she looked at the man. The moment you made eye contact with him, you realized why she had been so thrown off. You were also taken aback as you realized that Bucky Barnes was standing directly behind you. Metal armed, one time assassin, Bucky Barnes. Avenger Bucky Barnes. Tall, blue eyed, ridiculously good looking Bucky Barnes. You were stunned for a brief second, getting lost in the seas of his eyes, a small smile twitching on his lips as he met your eye.
"Sorry, I just, I'm only ordering one drink myself, I could just place my order with you, and you get yourself a free drink," he offered.
You nodded lightly, closing your parted lips before blinking and letting a smile of your own grace your face. "That's really nice of you," you said.
"Yeah, really nice," the barista echoed with a trill. "Uh, what can I get for you?"
You stepped aside as Bucky stepped forward, giving her his order as you stood by his side. You weren't quite sure what to do now, fiddling with your hands as you looked around the empty cafe.
"That'll be just a minute," she said to both of you before turning around to get started on the drinks.
You stood there awkwardly for a second, stealing a glance in Bucky's direction before he turned completely to face you.
"Hi," he offered a little stiffly, but followed up with a charming smile you'd certainly never have expected from him, causing you to titter in response.
"Uh, hi," you breathed with a smile. It was hard to describe, to explain, but when you met his eye, it was almost impossible to look away, the glimmer in them pretty enough to gaze into for as long as he'd allow.
He nodded awkwardly as he looked down at you, lips pressed together tightly. He looked away for a second, turning to be standing side by side with you again as you sucked your lips.
"Valentine's Day," he said, casting a sideways glance down at you.
You nodded awkwardly then, "Yeah."
"You got any plans tonight?" he asked out of nowhere, earning an unintentional scoff from you. You corrected with a more pleasant laugh as you shook your head. "No, not really. Just me, some heavily discounted chocolates and maybe a movie or two before I call it a night."
"Really? No valentine?" he asked, the weight of his eyes trailing up and down your full figure sending heat to your cheeks as you pretended not to notice.
"Nope," you popped the 'p'. "Just me, myself, and I.
And what about you, super soldier? Any plans?"
He huffed a laugh at the name before shaking his head in return. "Not as of this moment, no."
Another beat of silence grew between the two of you. There seemed to be an odd familiarity you couldn't account for, a comfortability between you despite being complete strangers to one another. There was a buzzing in your belly, a weird kind of thrill, excitement following through you, but you weren't sure why... And did you just casually call this man 'super soldier' like it was a nickname and you were good old friends? Why the hell had you done that? You let out a stilted laugh that you couldn't keep in. Bucky looked back at you then.
"What?" he asked.
"Nothing, uh," you tittered again, "nothing." You shook your head looking up to meet his eye. He relented when you didn't continue and looked forward again.
"I guess I just had a different idea of who you would be in person. The media paints you... differently," you tried to explain.
"How's that?"
"I don't know, uhm. A lot more... stoic, maybe?"
"Hm," he responded, "sorry to disappoint," he offered.
"I didn't mean that in a bad way," you rushed to try and remedy, all the while Bucky was smirking at you, something akin to amusement in his eye as he admired your flustered state. "Not that either way is - or - would be, bad. Sorry, I haven't had my coffee yet, my brain is kinda," you were saved from your rambling by your phone ringing in your hand. You glanced at the screen, taking a deep breath.
"Work," you offered as you waved your phone at him. "Have to take this, excuse me."
You turned and stepped away to take the call from your boss as Bucky watched you walk away, smile never falling from his lips. The barista called your order as you were talking and Bucky approached the bar to get your drinks while you kept your back turned.
A minute or so passed before you were finally able to end the call, the sound of the bell on the door ringing in time with you turning around to find that Bucky had gone.
You were slightly disappointed, well maybe a bit more than slightly, that odds were you'd probably never see him again, at least not in person. Maybe you were crazy, the hopeless romantic, valentine's energy in the air was getting to you, but you really thought there was a little spark of something there...
But Bucky Barnes was a hero, basically a celebrity, and you knew there was damn near no way you'd ever have the chance to explore anything with him. You laughed at yourself as you shook off the thoughts running through your head, walking to where your drink was waiting for you. Still, you were disappointed you weren't able to finish the conversation, or at the very least offer a goodbye. Not that it really mattered, you guessed.
As you grabbed your coffee cup, what appeared to be a lot of scribbling of black ink on the backside, now partially on your hand, caught your eye. You furrowed your brow as you held the cup up to your face to try and see it more clearly. When you started to make out the writing you had accidentally smudged, you couldn't help the smile that spread across your face. Under where the barista has written your name, read:
If you're open to company for those movie plans tonight, give me a call. I'll buy the chocolate.
Bucky's number, luckily, was legible as you continued reading his writing.
No pressure. Either way, have a great Valentine's Day, doll. It was good meeting you. - J.B.B.
You looked up smiling to yourself as you placed the cup back down for a second to grab your phone and take a quick picture of the note, lest you throw the cup away before taking his number down later. As you slipped your phone back in your pocket, the barista approached you from across the counter.
"Hey, so he asked me to tell you that he would've asked you face to face, but he didn't want to interrupt you?" she said in the form of a question as if she didn't really know what she was relaying to you. "Also, he bought himself a muffin before he left and wanted you to get the other item for free, so choice is yours," she offered gesturing to the bakery case.
"Oh, thank you," you smiled. "Ahh, I'll take a muffin, too."
A few moments later you had your coffee and muffin in hand as you walked to one of the tables around the cafe. Snapping a picture of the muffin, you sent it to Bucky's number along with a text.
Thanks for the muffin. And I'm definitely open to company.. Any movie suggestions?
You smiled at your screen when three dots popped up not long after you sent the message. This wasn't how you saw today going at all, but you certainly didn't mind the unexpected. A giddy excitement that you hadn't felt in a while came over you as you considered the possibilities of what would be in store tonight. It all felt so kismet, as ridiculous as that might have sounded...
You tried to tamper down your excitement and whatever dopey ideas were lurking in your mind as your phone dinged with a new message.
Bucky Barnes: Tons. How about we each choose one to watch?
Bucky Barnes: And I'd like to take you to dinner tonight, too. Does 7 sound good?
You: Okay, yeah. Seven works. It's a date. :)
You bit your lip to keep the dopey smile off your face as you clicked your phone to lock. Dinner and movies with Bucky Barnes on Valentine's Day. The plans formed easily in the blink of an eye, no carefully planned out details, just plans naturally unfolding and setting between you. Your life was far from a fairytale, but you couldn't shake the feeling that meeting Bucky today was meant to be, like something that was meant to play out was finally getting set into motion. All the pieces falling perfectly into place. You were excited to see where this would go.

“How about a semi stable 100 year old man,” Bucky said with a bright smile as he hugged Steve, his tone lighter than it had been in months. You couldn’t help but smile as you walked up toward the two.
“And how about his semi stable almost 100 year old wife?” You mused, Steve looked at you for a moment before his eyes flicked to Bucky’s face. You held your hand up and a beautiful vibranium ring sat on your ring finger, Bucky held up his vibranium arm and flexed his fingers, the matching ring visibly different from the rest of his arm. Steve’s face broke out into an even bigger smile.
“Congrats you guys,” he pulled you both in a one armed hug each. Bucky’s arm crept around your waist in the hug and you held Steve’s arm tightly.
Natasha ran up to you and wrapped you in a tight hug, “congratulations!” You smiled at her and touched her forehead with yours.
“What are we facing,” you asked, looking back to Steve. He delved into what we were about to face. “Well at least it will be easy,” you said sarcastically, leaning to Bucky’s side for some comfort. He held you tightly into his side for a brief moment.
“I’ll give you two a moment,” Steve turned to speak with T’Challa and the rest of the crew.
Bucky placed his hand on your cheek and leaned his forehead into yours, his metal hand holding your waist gently. You mirrored him, holding the back of his head and reaching up on your tiptoes to meet him halfway, your other hand splayed open on his chest. He stared contentedly into your eyes for a few moments, pouring all his love and affection into that look.
“I love you,” you said softly and pressed a soft kiss to his plush lips.
“I love you doll,” he whispered back after you pulled back. You took a couple deep breaths together and parted from one another. You rolled your shoulders and stretched your arms out, tilting your head side to side a couple times to warm up.
“It’s okay.”
“We’re okay,” he finished.
“Looks like we have a battle to face,” you as you rejoined Steve and the rest of the crew. You cracked your knuckles, pulled your hood up, and unsheath your daggers.“Phantom out,” you faded into the shadows leaving a wave of calm behind as you flitted through the shadows toward the upcoming battle. “You better watch his ass Steve, he’s not as spry as he once was,” you teased into the ear piece.
“You weren’t thinking that last night when you screamed my name, Honey” Bucky quipped back, you blushed.
“Let’s keep the comms clean you two,” Steve said trying to sound stern, but you could pick the amusement out in his tone.
“Oh don’t be a bitch,” you groaned as one of the weird alien creatures dodged your daggers. You screeched when one clipped your shoulder, it picked your scent up even though you were hidden in the shadows. One swift movement and the creature was dead with the blade of your dagger embedded in its skull. Pulling it out and shaking it off you heard Bucky curse on the comms and you were immediately heading toward him.
You ran and dodged everyone and everything on the way to Bucky’s side. Still immersed in the shadows, you climbed up on Bucky’s back, he barely registered your weight as you perched on his shoulder as he picked up a small raccoon and spun around creating a circle of bullets hitting everything surrounding them.
“How much for the arm?” It asked.
“Not for sale,” you answered, reappearing, sitting on Bucky's shoulder with one leg crossed over the other and a smirk on your face. The raccoon looked perplexed as he looked you up and down for a moment before shaking his head.
“I’ll get that arm,” you snorted at the racoon's declaration.
Tumblr media
“Doll? Steve?” Bucky called, you turned around, Steve following suit and you watched in horror as Bucky’s legs started disappearing.
“Bucky?” You started running toward him, catching his hand in yours and his eyes bore into yours, you were falling to your knees as he disappeared more and more, dust clenched into your fist as his hand vanished.
“I love…” and he was gone, the dull thunk of his gun hitting the ground filled your ears.
“BUCKY!? BUCKY!” You screamed, an inhuman wail left your lips as your hands moved around the dust that scattered the ground where he fell. You didn’t register Steve’s arms wrap around you as he hauled you up and away from your husband’s body, dust. You kicked and wailed in his arms, sobs wrecking your body as you screamed for Bucky.
“Hey, hey,” Steve’s voice was right in your ear as he gripped your arms to your sides, his other hand pulling your face into his neck. He was trying to sooth you, he maneuvered your body so you were being cradled into his chest, his big hand cupping the back of your head into his shoulder as you shook uncontrollably, sobs wrecking your throat.
“Bucky,” you sobbed, fisting Steve’s tactical suit. “Bucky…” your voice quieted as you cried into his shoulder as he held you tightly.
“I know, I know,” he soothed, his hand rubbing up and down your back in circles like he did after he personally told you Bucky fell from that train. Another sod ripped though your trembling form.
“Steve, I’m dreaming right? This is a nightmare right,” you pulled back and looked into his eyes, he had a far off look in them. That question mirrored the one you asked back then, and right now he wasn’t seeing Phantom, enhanced Avenger, he was seeing you, that tiny woman that held the heart of his best friend in her hands. Your voice was desperate, all you wanted to do was wake up in your bed cuddled up to your husband. But all you were met with were Steve’s saddened blue eyes. He shook his head and pulled you back into a tight hug. You sobbed again, all the strength in your body gone.

1 week later
You sat and stared out the window of the compound, you barely moved from that spot since Steve placed you there a week ago. You barely ate, all food made your stomach turn uncomfortably, everything reminded you of him. Looking at your ring brought silent sobs up, as your tear ducts were long empty from all the tears you shed.
The sound of a glass hitting the table made you jump, you turned your head to look at where the noise came from.
“You look awful,” Rocket said. You scoffed and looked away from him. He had spent the last week drinking Tony’s expensive liquor, your heart clenched at the thought of Tony, you still had no clue if he was still alive or where he was.
You had dark bags under your eyes and your hair was greasy, your clothes only changed because Natasha took it upon herself to get you changed a couple days ago. You felt incredibly numb, the world was devoid of all feeling and colour. You were spiraling and you couldn’t stop.
You flinched when cold glass touched your bare arm, you looked over and Rocket was holding out a glass of amber liquor. You took it and shot it back, welcoming the burn it caused.
“He was your husband?” Rocket asked, tears stung your eyes as you closed them and sniffled before nodding.
“Ye… yes,” you choked out. He gave you a sad look, and placed his paw on your arm where he touched the glass a moment before. Pulling back he lifted the bottle and tilted it toward you. You held the glass out and he topped it up.
“To the loved ones we lost,” he clinked the bottle to your glass and you both tipped the drink back. You finished yours in one go, the burn less than the last time. He refilled the cup.
“Tony’s gonna be pissed,” you couldn’t help the chuckle that bubbled out of your throat. You wanted to blame it on the booze, but you haven’t been able to get drunk since 1946. Maybe it was the fact Rocket was the first person to look at you with something other than pity in the last week or the shock was finally starting to wear off. Whatever it was, you appreciated it.
1 week later
That’s how your nights went for the next week. Sharing a drink or two of Tony’s expensive liquor with Rocket. You barely saw Steve and the rest of the team as they were busy with relief efforts. Whenever Steve was in the compound he had trouble evenlooking at you, like it hurt his heart more to see you so distant.
“Tell me about him,” Rocket said as he topped your glass up. He usually avoided personal questions, so this was unusual. You sucked in a sharp breath before pulling your knees up to your chest and looking at the ring on your finger. A fresh wave of tears welled up and you blinked a couple times, you took a couple shuddering breaths before shaking your head and looking out the window, your chin on your knees.
“He was everything to me,” you started. “We met after Steve saved him from Hydra back in the 40s,” Rocket gave you a questioning look. “Did you look up anything about Steve?” He nodded, “I know there’s not as much on Bucky and I out there.” He nodded again. “He could make anyone feel at ease, he was so effortlessly happy despite everything that was happening. I had heard girls talk about falling in love and it sounded like horse shit,” you chuckled. “But then I met him, and I knew instantly what they were talking about. Everything just felt right.”
“Bucky and I were almost married back then. But it was postponed for the mission he went on to bring in Zola, and then he didn’t come home.”
You pressed your palm to your eyes, “I was inconsolable, I’m surprised Howard didn’t send me back to America,” that name confused him. “Howard Stark is my adoptive brother. My mom died giving birth to me, dad wasn’t around, his mom and mine were best friends. So the Starks raised me as their own. That’s Tony’s dad.” He nodded again, he just listened. It was nice.
“Back to Bucky, there was a celebration happening in the canteen on the camp after Steve saved the 107th, Peggy and I were the only women there who weren’t nurses. She had been speaking to Steve and Bucky, well more so flirting with Steve.” You giggled.
“Steve made a comment ‘maybe she has a friend’ and I just so happened to need to speak with Steve right after Peggy, who was my best friend. So Steve made a comment after I left,” you chuckled thinking back. “Bucky asked me to dance that night and we ended up in his bunk, the rest is history really,” you chuckled.
“He was so sweet, flirty and funny. I was smitten from the second he introduced himself when I was talking to Steve,” you said dreamily. “Howard was pissed, how dare his baby sister date, the horror,” a full laugh came out as you remembered the look of horror on Howard's face when he caught you sneaking out of the bunk house the next morning. Your laugh was light and airy, like sweet bells or chimes. Steve had been listening to you from the door as you recounted your time back then. A ghost of a smile on his face.
“So what happened, how are you still here?” Rocket asked.
“After Steve went into the ice,” you noticed Steve now, your eyes saddened for a moment. “Howard threw himself into trying to replicate the serum. I was his first test subject, it felt right. No one else could do it. I felt like I owed it to Steve and Bucky to try and make their legacies survive. Kinda stupid,” you chuckled again. “In ‘51 we heard whispers of the Winter Soldier, they sent me to investigate. No one else came back alive. I was captured by Cerberus, the human experimentation division of Hydra. They held me captive for 61 years, until someone fucked up and my location was compromised and Fury was able to pinpoint me. He sent Steve in and well, he was surprised to see a face from his past staring back at him when he defrosted me.”
Rocket nodded, and looked over to Steve, “I never expected to see her staring back at me,” he said softly, taking a seat on the sofa. “I never expected her to be an enhanced.”
“I had ended up back in Hydra's hands after the battle of New York in 2012. I had changed hands a few times during my 6 decades captured. Cerberus had gone rouge at some point and it was a constant battle to get me back between the two. Hydra got their hands on the staff and used it on me, to see what it could do,” it was hard to talk about what you went through. It sounded insane. “Steve was on a mission to see if he could find the staff when he found me in cryostasis.”
“Fury sent me on a mission to find the staff, but I’m pretty sure he was actually sending me to find her. When I confronted him about it he just shrugged,” Steve added, you nodded along with him, having been with Steve during that confrontation.
“Hydra was terrified of me because my abilities were quite strong. I can disappear into shadows, and manipulate emotions with some mild telepathy and telekinesis. I think it's just my control of shadows, but I don’t really know.”
“I remember not believing my eyes, it was like seeing a ghost,” Steve murmured, you nodded.
“Seeing Steve was shocking to me as well, last I knew he went down with a plane somewhere in the arctic,” you said back. Rocket listened intently.
“I remember meeting Tony for the first time when you brought me back to the tower. I couldn’t believe it, Howard actually had a kid, a son,” you smiled. “He knew who I was. Apparently Howard talked about me a lot, and they had a picture of me in the house,” you looked down. Even though you were technically younger than him, you always felt like an aunt to him. “He called me auntie,” you chuckled, your eyes saddening again. “I miss them Steve,” you sighed and leaned back against the sofa.
“How did you find Bucky?” Rocket asked.
“He found us,” you laughed, and looked over at Steve. “HYDRA sent the Winter Soldier after us. It’s a long story.” You said quickly, “they wanted Cap gone and me back. I’ll never forget the emotions I felt that day in Washington when the Winter Soldier was revealed to be Bucky,” you shuddered thinking back to that fateful day that completely changed the trajectory of your life.
You three finished the bottle that night.
1 week later
You were finally up and about, trying to be useful when a ship touched down on the lawn of the compound.
“Tony!” You shouted, taking off in a sprint toward him as he walked down the ramp, a blue lady following him. You held on to him to keep him steady and he looked at you perplexed.
“I lost the kid,” he said frantically. “I failed, I lost the kid,” he sounded so defeated.
“We failed too, I lost Bucky,” he gave you a pained expression. “I’m sorry about the kid,” you said solemnly as you walked with him into the compound. Pepper hot on your heels.
Steve asked him if he knew where Thanos might be, Tony gave him the most angry look you had ever seen.
“Maybe we should let him rest,” you said softly, Tony already ripping into Steve and then he was given a sedative.
The blue lady, Nebula as she introduced herself, had an idea on where to find Thanos, so you were traveling into space. Rocket had let you sit next to him, you two had grown very close in the last few weeks.
Finding Thanos wasn’t as satisfying as you had hoped. He had destroyed the stones and there was no way to bring your loved ones back. Before Thor killed him you had jumped on his back and dug your fingers into his temples and made him relieve everything, every mistake, every failure and twisted his mind painfully, “this is for taking him from me again,” you ground out, tears pouring from your eyes and your head was pounding. Then Thor killed him, and it was unsatisfying.

Tony left the compound, telling Steve it was his. Pepper went with him. You were devastated. It took two years for you and Tony to get back on proper speaking terms. He held a lot of resentment towards you and Bucky, well for you still loving Bucky after he killed Howard and Marie.
“I did horrible things to Tony,” you shouted. “Do you blame me?” He shook his head, fire in his eyes.
“That’s different, it wasn’t you,” he bit back.
“How? It wasn’t him either,” You snapped.
“You didn’t kill my mom,” he said.
“Tony. I know nothing will ever change that. But please, I’m begging you. Please try and understand it wasn’t Bucky either,” you said sadly, reaching out to touch his cheek. “Please. Bucky loved Howard, he wouldn’t have killed him or Marie if he was in control of his mind,” you said tenderly. Tony’s cheek connected with your palm and you rubbed your thumb over his cheek bone. “Please Tony, for me. I’m not asking for you to be friends or even forgive him. I’m asking for you to forgive me, to let me back in. You’re my only family left,” you said softly.
He nodded a moment later, “okay,” he pulled you into a hug. “I missed you, I’m sorry you lost Barnes,” he said softly. You let out a breath of relief and hugged him back just as hard. “I’m sorry you lost the kid,” you felt him nod.
You semi retired over the next few years, only helping out sometimes, you tried to live a semi normal life. You spent a lot of time with Tony and Pepper, enjoying getting to be an actual auntie to Morgan. She was like Tony’s mini me, and it made your heart ache you never got to know Tony as a boy.  Tony even broke down after some time and told you about Howard, how he was, you were baffled, as the man he described was nothing like the brother you grew up with.
“If I were around, I would have kicked his ass,” you said one night while sharing a drink with Tony.
“Seeing how you are with Morgan, it would have been nice to have you around growing up,” he replied. “Dad talked about you a lot, he said I reminded him of you, you were just as impulsive and hard headed as I was apparently.” That made you throw your head back and laugh.
“You remind me of Howard actually, I’m sorry you never really got to see that side of him,” your voice tapered off as you looked down at the liquor in your cup.
“I gotta ask, you and Barnes, did you,” he took a deep breath, “did you guys ever plan on having kids, white picket fence, a dog.” You knew it was still hard for him to bring up Bucky, it was a wound that would likely never heal.
You thought for a moment, rolling the ring around on your finger that you vowed to never remove, thinking back to when you and Bucky met and were young, full of hopes and dreams for a future stolen from you. “Yes, maybe a brownstone in Brooklyn though, or an acreage in upstate. A couple kids and a dog or two. The American Dream.”
“I meant now, after you guys found one another again,” Tony said softly.
“Oh, if you really look at it, we only have had a handful of months together that were semi peaceful, so we never really talked about it again,” you said sadly. You watched him nod and he touched your hand.
“You would be a great mom,” Tony squeezed your hand. Tears welled up in your eyes at his kind words. “For what it’s worth, I know the gone can’t appreciate it. But you can, the living can. I forgive him. It will always hurt and part of me will always be raw about it. But I forgive him.” The tears fell now, and you sniffled while pulling Tony into a tight hug, relief flooding your body.
Steve respected that you wanted to try and live life semi-normally. He would only call you to participate in the field when something required your abilities and expertise.
With the help of Tony you were able to claim the trust Howard had set up for you after you disappeared in 1951. He apparently had a gut feeling you were still alive. Out there somewhere. Tony also helped with getting your stake in Stark Industries legitimized. You rented an apartment in New York, so you could still visit the compound easily. Not really wanting to buy a house yet or build one, part of you still held out that maybe one day you would get Bucky back and you two could start that family you both dreamed about.
Tumblr media
You were staring at Steve like he had ten heads just magically sprout out of his neck as you both stood in your living room. “Come again?” your heart pounded loudly and your palms were calmly, your brain going into overdrive as you clutched your hands in front of you.
“We might be able to get them back,” Steve said again, and your breath hitched, it was the most hopeful you heard him since before the blip. You stared at him in shock.
“Don’t fuck with my heart Steve,” you voice cracked slightly. He shook his head.
“I’m not I promise, we need to see if we can get Tony on board, I was hoping you would help,” Steve asked, almost begging.
You stood next to Steve while Bruce tested the time machine van Scott brought to the compound. Both of you sighing when he came back as a baby, and then coming back himself in a soiled suit.
Your heart beat spiked excitedly when you saw one of Tony’s sports cars fly up the compound's driveway, you squeezed Steve's hand, and he squeezed yours back.
You didn’t time travel, there weren't enough suits or pym-practicals for you to go as well. You monitored the equipment while you waited for the team to come back. Losing Natasha was devastating, you comforted Clint after he got back. “I couldn’t save her,” he sounded broken and your heart shattered.
You watched in horror as Bruce basically barbequed his arm to undo the snap. Everyone looked around at one another, trying to figure out if it worked or not. Your phone and Clint’s started ringing. You both walked over hesitantly, you grabbed yours. Sam’s face on the screen and you felt a sob get stuck in your throat. You and Clint shared a quick look before you both swiped to answer, placing the phone to your ear your breath hitched when you heard him.
“Doll,” tears flooded your cheeks as you brought your hand to cover your mouth.
“Bucky,” you choked out, “Buc…” a scream ripped through your throat as the compound collapsed around you, burying you and Clint.
“Hello?” Clint groaned as he flashed his light around.
“Help,” you coughed as rubble shifted on top of you. “Clint,” you called out.
“Come on kid,” he said, holding your hand as he pulled you free.
“I’m older than you Clint,” you laughed a dry laugh, rubbing the dirt off your face. He gave you a deadpan expression. “Sorry,” you raised your hand up in surrender.
“Shit,” you looked down at the ground, the gauntlet was sitting in front of you two. Then you heard it, it was faint. Clint immediately sent a torch arrow through the tunnel, revealing creatures similar to the ones you fought in Wakanda. Clint quickly grabbed the gauntlet and you both ran for it.
“God I hate those things,” you groaned as you ran alongside Clint.
“You fought them before?” He asked.
“In Wakanda before the blip,” he nodded as he  shot explosive arrows into the pipes. The explosion caused you both to fly forward and you fell on top of him. With a groan you rolled off him and quickly sprang up. More were coming, he looked up and shot a grapple up and offered you his hand. You shook your hand and sunk into the shadows and crawled up the wall in them as he cut one of the creatures down. As he landed from his grapple, you jammed your dagger into the floor and used your momentum to kick one of them back down the hole.
He raised his blade over the hole and yelled before rolling over and lying down for a moment, you followed suit groaning with him.
“Oh hey I know you,” Clint murmured as Nebula came and took the gauntlet.
“Father, I have the stones,” your eyes snapped open and you looked at her. You sunk into the shadows before she could stop you.
“You what?” Clint mumbled, he was shocked and more awake now. She placed her boot on his chest and pointed a gun at him.
“Stop,” a new voice said. A lady whose skin was green entered with a gun pointed at Nebula came in. Nebula moved, her gun still pointed at Clint’s head as you skulked through the shadows to get behind her.
“You’re betraying us?” other Nebula asked, as the other lady held her arm steady, the gun aimed at her. Another Nebula came in with her hands up and Clint jumped out from the middle of them. You sent a small pulse of calm toward him so he could still feel you there with him.
“You don’t have to do this,” your Nebula says.
“I am this,” the other retorts.
“No you're not,” the green lady says, you stayed still and watched. Poised to strike when needed.
“You’ve seen what we’ve become,” your Nebula says softly as she walks towards the other.
“Nebula, listen to her,” the other lady urged.
“You can change,” the green lady dropped her gun, you tensed.
“He won’t let me,” the other Nebula said tearfully and aimed her gun at the green lady. You sprung forward and grabbed her arms from behind revealing yourself completely, as your Nebula shot her. You gasped and dropped to the ground and started hyperventilating, feeling all over your chest for damage. Clint was to your side in an instant checking you over.
“Okay, breathe, breathe,” you took a sharp breath and stared into Clint’s eyes, yours wild and terrified.
“It’s okay, we’re okay,” you repeat your mantra out loud. You scrambled up as Clint grabbed the gauntlet and you two ran.
Wakanda 2023 Post Unsnap
Tumblr media
Bucky woke up face down in the dirt, and he was very confused. Sam was to his side instantaneously and pulled him up.
“What the hell happened?” Bucky shook his head and looked around. “Doll? Doll!” He shouted. “Where are you?” He called out, hoping for an answer he was met with silence.
“I have no idea,” Sam looked bewildered, “I’m going to call her,” he said and dialed your number, he didn’t get an answer and Bucky’s stomach tied itself in knots as he heard it ring. When he heard her breath as she answered.
“Doll?” He asked breathlessly, she didn’t answer for a couple beats but then her sweet voice crackled through the phone.
“Bucky,” a breath of relief flooded him as he heard her voice. “Buc..” he heard her scream and the sound of falling rubble and then the line went dead.
“Doll?” Bucky called frantically, “Doll!?” He screamed into the phone.
“Barnes,” Sam said sternly. “Barnes,” he tried again. “Bucky!” He grabbed him by the shoulders and made him look at him. “We’ll get to her,” Sam promised, his own heart twisting.
Golden circles opened up suddenly in front of them, Wanda and Groot joining them as they looked through the portals in bewilderment. “We’re Masters of the Mythic Arts, your team needs help facing Thanos.”
Avengers Compound 2023
“Did anyone ever tell you, you talk too much,” you shouted as you reappeared next to Steve. He looked awful. You looked around you and your heart beat slowed as you took everything in. You couldn’t see Tony or Thor. Or anyone else for that matter, Clint sent you ahead to try and find Cap since you could move faster in the shadows than he could run.
“Ca,” a muffled sound crackled through the comm in Steve’s ears, yours crackling to life as well. “Cap? It’s Sam.” The comm cleared, “on your left,” golden circles opened what looked like portals and T’Challa, Shuri and Okoye walked though. Sam flew out right after and your heart soared as you watched him fly above and circle back, landing in front of you and Steve.
Bucky walked though one of the portals and you could have screamed for joy. Your stomach started somersaulting and your heart rate spiked. “Go,” Steve said softly. You took off toward Bucky, his arm opening to you almost instantly as you body slammed into him a moment later. His arm wrapped tightly around your waist and yours wrapped around his neck. He inhaled a deep breath through his nose that was buried into your hair.
You pulled back and placed your hand on his cheeks and smiled brightly up at him, “Bucky,” you were crying.
“Doll,” he whispered back. In his arm you turned toward Thanos again, Bucky’s arm secured around your waist as you faced the purple monster. You looked at one another once more before nodding at each other.
“I love you,” you said softly.
“I love you too,” he said back tenderly.
“It’s okay.”
“We’re okay.”
“AVENGERS!” Steve shouted. “Assemble.” It was chaos the moment he finished.
“Let’s do this. Phantom out,” you faded into the shadows instantly.
You danced around slicing at anything that got to close, trying to track Clint to figure out where he had made it off too when you went ahead.
You kept close to Bucky and stabbed a rogue creature that almost got Rocket. He whipped around and you half appeared smiling at him before throwing a knife and embedding into the skull of a creature that was too close to Bucky for your liking.
“Hey Daisy,” Rocket chuckled. The nickname he coined for you a few years back stuck hard, and you didn’t hate it. Bucky looked over his shoulder with a questioning expression before shrugging and continuing what he was doing. You slipped back into the shadows and kept fighting.
“Bucky the kid,” you shouted as you tried to dodge the oncoming fire. “I got you, protect him,” you watched as Bucky jumped forward and took a hit, your shadows protecting him. You scrambled forward and checked on him. The gun fire lulled for a moment and started firing in the sky.
A missile like something started taking out the ship. You and Bucky watched in awe as it started to fall apart and fall into the lake.
“You got something for me?” Carol asked.
Peter handed her the gauntlet, “I don’t know how you’re gonna get it through all that.”
“Don’t worry, she’s got help,” Okoye said as you all appeared around him. You emerged from the shadows for a moment and nodded to Wanda, smiling at her, she smiled back.
Pepper was pulling Peter away from him, “Tony,” you ran forward and fell to your knees next to him and took his head in your hands. “Tony.” You felt tears slip down your cheeks as you let him go and crawled backwards, collapsing to the ground, Peter falling next to you, you pulled him into a hug.
It was Bucky that pulled you up into his arms a short while later, you completely gave your strength over to him and went completely limp in his grasp. He looked down at you tenderly and nuzzled his nose into your hair softly. “It’s okay, we’re okay,” his voice was soothing and raw.

“I love you 3000,” you placed your hand over your mouth and stifled the sob that threatened to come out and leaned your head into Steve’s shoulder. He wrapped his arm around you and hugged you to him. Your heart broke for Morgan, his little mini me.
While Pepper gathered the ceremonial ‘Tony Stark Has A Heart,’ bouquet, Morgan toddled over to you. You crouched down to her level and gave her a big hug. She pulled back and her little face full of tears, you whipped them gently and smiled at her.
“It’s okay,” you said softly into her hair as you pulled her back into another hug.
“We’re okay,” she caught you off guard by finishing the mantra you repeated regularly. It was a safety net for you, something that soothed your soul in the darkest of times. You couldn't count how many times you said it to her when she would fall and hurt herself or if she had a bad dream or if she missed her parents when you watched her.
Too hear you say it brought some sense of calm to you and nodded at her. “We are,” you cupped her cheek and smiled at her. “Dad will always love you, and he’ll always be right here,” you touched her heart, “and right here,” you touched her temple. She smiled sadly at you.
“Luv you auntie,” she whispered before going back to her mom.
As you followed Pepper out of the house, you joined Bucky’s side to watch her set Tony's heart adrift on the lake. He wrapped his arm around you and held you close.
“I’m sorry you lost him,” Bucky said quietly as you watched on. You let out a deep shuddering sigh and nodded.
“He forgave you after everything,” you murmured softly, your eyes sad. “I’m sad he never got to tell you himself.” Bucky kissed your temple gently and nodded against your head.

“Don’t do anything stupid until I get back,” Steve said to Bucky with a smile.
“How can I? You’re taking all the stupid with you,” he murmured back and they hugged.
He looked at you and smiled, “it’s okay,” he said softly.
“We’re okay,” you finished. He pulled you into a hug tightly before letting go to bring the stones back.
“I’m gonna miss you punk,” Bucky said softly.
“It’s gonna be okay Buck,” Steve said as he stepped on the platform.
Something screamed inside you that something was going to happen, you and Bucky stood side by side while Sam hammered on Bruce to figure out what happened.
“Hey Sam,” Bucky called as you two looked toward a man sitting on a bench. You approached it first and looked at him, you swallowed hard.
“Steve,” your voice cracked. He smiled up at you.
“I’m so proud of you. Keep each other safe, and love hard,” you reached forward and wrapped him in a tight hug for a moment. You looked at his hand and noticed the ring.
“I’m glad you got to be happy, we’ll miss you. It’s okay,” you whispered as you stepped back.
“We’re okay,” he nodded back. You walked away while wiping a tear from your eye and joined Bucky again while Sam went and spoke with him.
“You don’t want to say anything,” you whispered to him, he wrapped his arm around you gently and pulled you close as he watched.
“No,” Bucky said simply. You nodded and pressed your head into his shoulder.
