tentatively putting my thoughts into the tag. for context i am an anime-only watcher but i've been really, really enjoying the mage exam arc and i was definitely a little surprised to find out that this arc has a lot of people frustrated!
one of the strengths of this arc, i think, is seeing how frieren interacts with characters and personalities we've not seen her encounter before. fern and stark are both relatively placid as people; they're generally content to go along with what frieren says.
lawine and kanne are two very strong personalities that frieren initially doesn't know how to deal with at all! they have a whole thing going on and frieren's choice is to. not handle it at all. rather, she spends much of her time quietly observing the two of them until she can speak with each of them individually and figure them out, just a bit. she really struggles to get a grasp on the situation until she does that; it's lawine and kanne who are acting first within their team.
then, secondly -- frieren's plan is so. elf with a lot of time to spare. the impact of the time limit is felt so strongly by every human character on the field; everyone is in such a rush! fern's team are stoked they caught a stille so early. the team that attacks them are desperate to steal it asap. after lawine freezes the lake, the other teams are desperately trying to thaw it, for a quick solution.
frieren, though? frieren's solution takes a shitton of time and involves her essentially meditating by a pond for god knows how many hours. it's such a frieren plan; i feel like only someone with a relationship with time like frieren does would come up with it.
tldr; frieren's capacity to form relationships and understand people and her relationship with time are shown off in a really interesting way wrt the way frieren solves the stille problem.
that, and... it seems a bit silly to say this about a show with a certain character in the title but... i do not feel that frieren is exclusively about frieren. it is certainly a story about her adventures but frieren is by no means the only important character! fern is also there! and stark but hes on vacation. so let's talk about fern.
the one fight scene fern has is so unbelieveably crunchy to me bc we learn so much about the world (now) and about the world (part)/frieren's view on magic from it! the girl she fights has really impressive magic; we know that this is generally considered a time of peace, the demon lord is dead, etc. magic is not necessarily a means to an end. i wonder if this means magic has entered a sort of renaissance? a time period after a period of great upheaval, where social structure is thrown out the window and great advances are made in technology, science - and maybe magic!
the way fern uses magic is very indicative of how frieren feels about magic. fern says (that frieren said) that "this is enough to defeat mages of this era", which is so interesting to me bc yes, ofc, fern does win! with her simple magic and full auto fire. but does that automatically mean fern is a better mage? it's complicated...
you hear a lot about the different philosophies of people who use magic in these episodes, and what i'm really interested in seeing is mr war guy meet frieren, bc i think they'd be the most interesting contrast -- a warrior of the past, and a warrior of today.
specifically bc -- frieren is basically a custom-designed warrior. the way she can mask her mana is very specifically designed to be able to weaponised against demons, flamme did that to her very purposefully. the way she's trained fern is also indicative of that; fern's immense firepower and stamina being "enough to defeat mages of this era" without being flashy so to speak indicate, at least to me, that this sort of thing was common in frieren's time! but this is a type of magic very specifically made for battle against a very specific enemy.
no wonder frieren likes collecting weird spells so much... i wonder if she's had much time at all in the past to play around with magic for the sake of anything but fighting and training to fight?

she's bland. she's boring. she's too dependent on Mike. she isn't funny. her voice is annoying. she's hypocritical. she had a part in eliminating her only friend who was genetically mutated by toxic waste. she only hated Scott after he eliminated Mike. her hair is unnaturally dyed. she apologizes for everything even when knowing she will never reach the forgiveness bestowed in our hearts. she's annoying. she calls Dawn weird, yet laughs when Cameron puts spaghetti on his head, even though that's unsanitary and unusual. she wars pigtails. she changed into a macho warrior only to regress to her old bland self an episode later. she has a flower growing out of her head. she snapped at Anne Maria, even before her and Mike ere even in a relationship. she snapped at Anne Maria. her first line in All-Stars is "Mike". she wasn't even worthy of a line in "Food Fright". she gets mad at Mike in "Grand Chef Auto" for choosing to compete instead of saving her, even though he saved her like, 260 times. she doesn't wear gray sweat pants. she's apart of the worst relationship in Total Drama history. she wears long pants with a crop top. her anorexia needs to be taken care of. her old design was better. she says she loves oddballs, yet when Dakota and Dawn try to befriend her, she's like "lol f**k you circus freaks. where's my perfectly unflawed Mike at." she's the leading cause of chlamydia in the United States. her and Mike haven't even kissed on the lips yet, while Anne Maria and Mike have kissed twice. she likes Cameron. her shoes are tacky. she abused a beaver. she's able to fly up a tree. she acquired super powers from Mike withdrawal. she's an embarrassment to a show that was supposed to be satire. wtf is an Indie Chick is it a soup. her niceness is a result of my high blood sugar. she makes me want to vomit all over myself. she's the reason I cry myself to sleep everynight and the reason I'll never be able to have children. she's Zoey. her boob crack is showing

What the shit. Fighting a god in hand to hand combat as a gold dragon using immovable rods goes so fucking hard and it’s the backstory for a character that’s just in the main backstory???????? AMY???
You know how a lot of people, when making DND characters, make the mistake of having their level 1 PC have an elaborate backstory where they're super badass and already recognized as a hero?
When I made Ash I did the opposite. Her backstory is elaborate, yes, but in very mundane ways that inform her personality and how she perceives the world around her, and build up the logic of how she makes decisions.
I made everyone AROUND my PC a super powerful character who had done incredible things, and I gave Ash anxiety about it.
She feels, constantly, that she is inadequate by comparison. Her entire frame of reference is shaped by a bunch of women in her life that are outstandingly powerful, and she's just a quiet girl who makes leather goods and sells them for a living. She thinks of herself as the NPC in other people's more impressive lives.
Her mother, Lailah, is a nearly seven foot tall divine warrior created in Elysium to destroy Pit Fiends. She's an angel of lightning built like an MMA fighter, and she wields a weapon like piece of a lightning bolt (not stylized, I mean a real, glowing crackling arc of electricity that she holds like a staff and can be used like anything from a polearm to a spear to a whip, and when thrown it acts like a Lightning Bolt spell). She is built, both narratively and in game stats, to be an unkillable holy destroyer, capable of fighting MULTIPLE PIT FIENDS simultaneously, and winning. She's a CR 10+ magical creature (she's a homebrewed mix of Deva and Erinyes stat blocks with some unique flavor) with eighteen class levels, 16 in Zealot Barbarian and 2 in Fighter. She has a strength of 27 and a constitution of 25. She's designed to deal HUGE amounts of damage, tank unfathomable amounts in turn, NOT DROP WHEN SHE HITS ZERO HITPOINTS, and keep swinging until every devil in her way is a pile of dust, then use bonus action Second Wind to bring herself back above 0 so she doesn't incur the auto-death caveat on Zealot Barbarian's Rage Beyond Death ability. One of her attuned items is also the very simple uncommon item "Periapt of Wound Closure" which automatically stabilizes you at the start of your turn, thereby resetting the death saving throws she would theoretically have to make each time she gets hit below 0. Also, as an angel, she's innately immune to auto-death effects like Power Word Kill, which closes almost all loopholes that get around her build. She is UNSPEAKABLY badass. I ran a simulated round of combat with her once, and she could potentially one-shot a CR 15 Skittering Horror (228 HP) in a single turn. Her theoretical maximum damage output is like, 456 damage in a turn (granted this assumes all crits and rolling max damage).
So that's Ash's mom.
Aria is interesting. She was always strongly attuned to the forces of nature, and her magic grew quickly. Where Ash grew up with someone she knew would always be there to protect her from anything, Aria did NOT have that safety net, and spent her formative years learning to be more self-sufficient in terms of relying on her own power. So eventually she got sucked into an adventuring party consisting of herself (a tiefling Witch subclass with very strong druid flavor), a tiefling zealot barbarian, and a couple of elf twins who were an Arcana cleric and a Celestial Warlock. Sometime after they had made a name for themselves, they were tasked with stopping a suspected fledgling vampire who had been kidnapping girls and killing a bunch of people. When they arrived, they met Cass, who was very much NOT a new vampire. She was almost 150 years old and had been protecting women from abusers and overzealous debt collectors, and things had gotten a little messy with one or two of them, leading to a lot more attention than she normally got. They start off fighting Cass (Aria polymorphs herself into a dire wolf and lunges directly for the throat, which Cass found amusing and impressive) but realize in the banter that Cass wasn't the real problem, and she ends up being a sort of a lesson for the group in terms of whose word they trust and who they take jobs from (YES THE BACKSTORY'S BACKSTORY HAS NARRATIVE ARCS AND MORAL LESSONS THAT LEAD TO LONG TERM CHARACTER GROWTH OKAY I CAN'T HELP MYSELF). Cass, having a particular rapport with Aria, ends up joining their party as a dhampir Soulknife Rogue/Shadow Monk.
Yes, that's all backstory that I made up for an imaginary campaign that exists entirely as a set piece for Aria as one of Ash's story NPCs. This doesn't even touch on the fact that I liked Cass so much as a character that I gave HER an entire backstory of her own. I DON'T HAVE A PROBLEM.
Anyway the team only makes a bigger name for themselves for handling things that other groups can't. Eventually, they just happen to be in the Tenth District when the War of the Spark happens (major established event in the MTG canon), and I basically added some extra "scenes" to it that didn't violate existing canon so I could have that be the climax of their imaginary campaign. One of Aria's partners was a new planeswalker at the time and her spark got harvested by the Dreadhorde, specifically by the god eternal Bontu.
Gods in Magic The Gathering aren't honestly that special? They don't seem to have THAT much power, all things considered. Ravnica's gods are mostly powerful magical animals, and in the most recent Magic Story one of their gods (Anzrag the Quake Mole) was captured in an "evidence capsule" (basically Magic's version of a Pokeball). The most powerful god in MTG is probably the Ur Dragon honestly, unless you count the Eldrazi, but that's a whole other conversation since neither of those actually have the "God" creature type.
Anyway, Bontu was one of the gods of Amonket (basically a plane based on ancient Egypt), which had been conquered by an Elder Dragon planeswalker named Nichol Bolas. HE was the one who actually killed all but one of Amonket's gods, and then another planeswalker named Liliana Vess (extremely powerful necromancer) raised them as zombies for his army, because Bolas had a ton of complicated leverage over her (magical contract that he could invoke to kill her if she betrayed him). So Bontu was a god zombie.
Here's a reference:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Well, Aria was a level 18 Witch at this point since this was the climax of their campaign, so she had access to the Shapechange spell, a 9th level transmutation that lets you become any creature with a challenge rating equal or lower than your character level. And the best candidate for that was an Adult Gold Dragon (CR 17). So Aria goes full berserk and stands up on her dragon hind legs and picks a fight with a dead god that she's determined to make deader, and has a Godzilla vs King Ghidorah standoff with her.
Tumblr media
So how do you fight a god that can suck your soul out and instantly kill you with a single touch? You don't let it touch you.
What Aria did was basically inspired by this gif of a Wildebeest trying to charge at a lion:
Tumblr media
Or this:
Tumblr media
And to be clear, yes, I'm saying Aria was the lion in that situation. She basically did a big dragon threat display to get Bontu's attention, and used the Gold Dragon's weakening breath to give Bontu disadvantage on Strength checks and saves. Bontu charged at her, and at the last second Aria dropped to the ground and then shot back up, clamped her teeth around the god's throat, and used her weight to throw Bontu around and knock her off balance, and her superior strength to grab her by the wrists and wrestled her to the ground so she couldn't get a grip on Aria. She had every part of the god that could have killed her pinned, and used the claws of her wings to pull Bontu's armor apart and tear at everything she could reach while thrashing her around. It was Fen, the Arcana cleric, who thought to use Immovable rods to pin Bontu down so that even if Aria lost her grip, Bontu wouldn't be able to immediately one-shot any of them. So Athena (barbarian) and Cass (rogue/monk) as the two martial classes were the ones who got close enough to handle that while Fen and her sister (Gwen) used whatever holy magic they could to help from a distance.
Now CASS had a problem, because she's a DEX based martial class, not a strength based one. She needed a boost to be able to get this job done. So she drank some of Bontu's blood from one of the wounds Aria had left on her arm to give herself a burst of strength. Except. She had to get real close to do that. And Bontu managed to get a loose grip on her, and tried to suck out her soul.
The magic that makes Cass what she is is very old and very powerful. It binds her soul to her body in a much stronger way than any living creature, fusing the two together to prevent her from dying (i.e. by having her soul separated from her body; Cass can recover from almost any conceivable physical injury as long as there's life energy, in the form of blood, for the magic that keeps her alive to feed on and maintain the seal between her body and her soul). BECAUSE SHE WAS FEEDING ON THE BLOOD OF A GOD AT THE TIME, the magic holding her together basically fought against the magic that was trying to rip her soul out, and it had enough fuel to hold on until Aria's thrashing forced Bontu to let go. So Cass survived the Elderspell thanks to a very weird and unrepeatable set of circumstances (which allows something narratively impressive and legendary to happen without being gamebreakingly overpowered and violating the established rules of the world).
Because of how her magic draws energy from other things, though, there was a side effect: she also accidentally took in one of the planeswalker sparks that Bontu had harvested. So when Cass had healed enough for her soul to no longer be dislocated, her spark activated and she became a Planeswalker. (I imagine a soul is connected to a body mostly through the nervous system, because that's how a brain holds consciousness in it, so a "dislocated" soul is like something glued to every nerve ending in your body being pulled on with an enormous amount of force, trying to sever that connection; imagine trying to pull yourself off the ground when every nerve ending in your body is superglued to the floor by something akin to the Strong Nuclear Force. It SUCKED.)
The team ended up being forced to retreat because of Cass' injuries, so Aria didn't actually manage to kill Bontu personally (or die trying, which in her grief-rage she was fully open to). Right about this time, my bottle scene ends and Magic canon comes back into play: Liliana betrays Bolas and turns the Dreadhorde against him, and Bontu ends up being the one who bites him and rips out HIS spark. Due to the enormous rush of energy of consuming all of Bolas' stolen Planeswalker sparks (tl;dr he was trying to become a god), and with the added bit of lore that it was Aria's team that heavily injured Bontu just prior to this, Bontu exploded in the process.
This resulted in Ravnica playing a game of telephone in the chaotic aftermath of the War. Aria fought a god. She's still alive and that god is dead. Rumors spread and now Aria is misremembered as the one who killed Bontu. Half the plane thinks of her as the "god killer." All she wanted was to avenge her lover or die trying.
Neither outcome happened, and now she's credited with the very thing she sees as her greatest failure. And that trauma has haunted her ever since.

Post-separation; Pre-divorce
"Yeah, they’ve split up. We just haven’t twigged to it yet because Harry hasn’t gone home to Papa & Bro which is what we all expected he would do.
[This is not TV](https://preview.redd.it/po1b2i9ahgv91.jpg?width=1000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=56e2d40c020a4eec4670419602a9f2e1fd91d482)
When did Megs figure out that this was the absolute end? During the funeral? When they sat so far apart in the car they may as well been seated in separate countries? Before? When Harry body blocked Megs from accessing an official ahead of him? Before that?—when Harry fled to Africa & bounced back only to flee to Colorado? Probably then—though we’ll never officially know.
What we’re seeing now is the full court press about Megs (& only Megs) the Survivor. Impressive. Valiant shopper, RomCom warrior, blessed Saint of Our Perpetual Virgin, Just a Mom Raising Two Children w/o a Husband & w/o Titles. Someone you can relate to.
And before us is a media blitz designed to convince the world that Meghan alone is every bit as important as Meghan w/ that wanker, Harry. Has Harry—again—given tacit approval for her to set him up to take the fall? Look at her, model, mother, podcaster? Only a blind man could walk away from this? Harry must be an idiot. Well, Harry is an idiot.
One thing for certain, she’s been planning her post-Harry life for a while now. Just look at the circus she has rolled out.
What’ll happen to Harry? Who knows? Maybe he’ll continue to live in the States but w/ his level of paranoia & demands for security, I doubt he can afford it. His only income now would be from BetterUp & maybe, if the memoir goes ahead, from further payments on his book advance. But he better be prepared to provide child support starting yesterday. America does not like a deadbeat dad & Megs will go to the mattresses before she gives up that $100M payout she thinks is her due.
Right this minute, though? They’re out of money. Megs has a publicity machine to feed. (Variety isn't cheap.) Also, Harry needs to hide & lick his wounds. Where will he go? Well, Frisco’s nice. Expensive, but nice.
So no vow renewals, no “greatest love story of our time,” no reality (faux-reality?) show (or at least unlikely.) Netflix probably is aware of the issues & is somewhat tepid about releasing a “docu-series” on a couple so in love that they may well announce their separation mid-airing. Also, what about Harry releasing a memoir that's a stirring indictment of his father, Charles, but somehow never mentioning how it has come to pass that he, Harry, can’t stand to be in the same room w/ the woman he married, the mother of his two young children? Kind of a stunning error of omission, no?
Yeah, nah. Cluster fuck.
Stay tuned.

Late edit. My personal threshold has been met but that's just me. What would it take you, dear reader, to think, yeah, it's over?"

3 ideas: UAC/ARC vehicles, "weapon mods" carrying enemies and a "Gun stealing" enemy
Tumblr media
UAC/ARC war vehicles under Hellish/demonic influence
Eternal gave the idea of UAC/ARC soldiers having vehicles and mechs but it was barely explored, though there's also concept art of it.
But imagine if their military tanks, mechs, helicopters etc showed up more and not just as level assets: Imagine them as enemies, either piloted by Zombie/Possessed Soldiers OR the vehicles themselves would be "corrupted" by Hell and act on their own.
Maybe some could drop Zombie Soldiers as if they're deploying an army or even like the Duke Nukem 3D Pig Cops where shooting down a UAC vehicle leads to a Zombieman coming out of it (IF the vehicle exploding doesn't kill him, that is).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
They could also have both Possessed Soldiers piloting them and the mechs/helicopters/planes/tanks etc look "demonic" as if they had flesh growing or were slightly changed with Cultist/Immora-like tech.
(And the inclusion of a tank means an homage to a certain other tank entity from the series)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This idea sounds weird but it'd be too far if they could've been pilotable by the player because of the extra complexity and all.
(Unless it's a game with more open spaces but NOT open world and maybe an opportunity for the Slayer to finally pilot the Atlan mech in a gameplay moment)
Could still be a fun way to "expand the universe" in a more "mechanical" way.
Weapon mods available to enemies
Tumblr media Tumblr media
D2016 changed the Zombiemen type in the sense that they're no longer "gun carrying" zombies, both aesthetically and mechanically.
It might make sense for 2 reasons: One being the removal or at least lower amount of enemy hitscan and the second reason being how the pickup/loot system/economy works.
(And maybe how they're technically no longer "Doomguy's former buddies", even if they're somehow not using their UAC tech but he does)
But both 2016 and Eternal make a case of UAC soldiers armed with the same Plasma Rifles as the player, while Possessed Soldiers carry what might as well be a different version of it.
Because otherwise, imagine if these Soldiers having access to the same weaponry as Doomguy meant also having access to weapon mods.
Rifle zombie? He gets micro missiles and one of the sniper rifle based mods.
Shotgun zombie? One of the grenade mods and one of the auto shotgun mods.
What about chaingun zombies with those energy shields (Not the same as the TAG2 Riot Soldier) and turret modes?
Or Plasma zombies with heat blasts and either microwave beams or stun bombs.
This can also go beyond the UAC, like Cultist zombies with Eternal's Rocket Launcher or Possessed Sentinel warriors with Ballistas.
At the very least, you can give these guys a visual feedback/telegraph indicating them using a certain mod (Or just put them behind a difficulty setting or game mode).
They could also be a special boss like a Professional Zombie squad where a group of Zombie soldiers has each member have a weapon with weapon mods and they're a bit smarter/more mobile than traditional Possessed Soldiers.
(Remember what i said about the Dark Lord and if he was a "literal anti-Doomguy" mechanically? The Professional Zombie squad is like "split versions" of that Doomguy clone idea, wich each Soldier representing a different weapon)
But simply killing one of them grants ammo (Maybe even add ammo backpacks to their designs, to indicate they're packed with ammo and all).
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And if said Professional Zombie squad was mostly UAC themed, pretend the UAC somehow figured out copying the Meathook from the Eternal SSG ("Lucifer's Bane").
Could also lead to a lore of UAC mimicking Sentinel weaponry and have their versions of some weapons but not all due to how advanced Sentinel stuff is.
(Like i can see UAC guys with shoulder equipment launchers but not Crucibles)
"Gun stealing" enemy
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Remember when Quake SoE's Gremlin had the ability to take a weapon from the player?
Tumblr media
I think the Marauder could suit this idea for a few reasons.
He's an adversary of the Slayer, but we could enhance that rival aspect.
He could steal weapons from the Slayer using a grapple hook, which even mirrors the Slayer's Meathook.
Imagine a Marauder spinning the chain rope like a whip before he launches it or doing something as some form of feedback/telegraph.
The player must prepare before the Marauder uses the hook to steal their current weapon.
It could even have a familiar logic of the Marauder being invulnerable when preparing his hook and doing the green light "hit me quick" bit when about to launch the hook.
When the Marauder does steal a weapon, he may even run out of ammo of said weapon and throw it away (Player can pick up the weapon back, but with no ammo lol).
Speaking of green light, when the Marauder throws away the stolen weapon, that could be another "hit me now" moment too.
Maybe this could be an iteration of the Marauder in a future game or even a "subvariant" like if the Cultist Marauder skin was an enemy type.
Tumblr media
These 3 ideas sound complicated but might be fun... maybe.
Perhaps one extra idea i could've mentioned is the UAC military having nuclear weapons even called "BFN" and there could even be something with pilotable/guided missiles like the Redeemer from Unreal.
Final Doomer even had a BFG with a nuke for the Hellbound set: Like the projectile causes a huge explosion that even leaves radiation as a damaging hazard for enemies (I think it was like that if i recall).

Gravity Falls Rewatch: S2E18 Xpcveaoqfoxso (Weirdmageddon part 1)
So Bill sort of ended up keeping up his end of the bargain with Mabel, that’s interesting
Someone give the character designers a raise
Do we get to see Bill’s dimension?
Pacifica’s dad really pulled an Odalia Blight, he got what was coming to him
Bill is anti-capitalist change my mind
The water tower still has a hole in it
So time has canonically stopped
Oh fucked up intro my beloved
Abuelita is so chill even in the apocalypse I love it
Ok it seems that the prison is actually trying to rehabilitate the prisoners which I like
“Experiment 618” is the quantum destabilizer
So Bill’s hat, along with the rest of him, is made of flesh, cool
So weirdmageddon has lasted for at least three days
Wendy has canonically not celebrated Christmas
I want to hang out in Wendy’s hideout it’s sick
Robbie getting caught because he was taking a selfie is so in character for him ngl
So did Bill have someone go get Gideon from prison or did he go see him himself?
I guess this is what Bill wanted Gideon to do for him when they made the deal in Dreamscaperers
Wendy badass moments Wendy girl boss moments
Gideon and Ghost Eyes besties forever
Oh yeah what’s Gideon’s family been up to?
More 618s on the auto mart warriors’ cars
“She loves me, she just doesn’t know it yet” 🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩
Ghost Eyes was a philosophy major!
Okay but that bubbles of weirdness part was sick af
Holy shit they actually made that jump?!?!
I want to hear those songs about Soos being an apocalypse desperado
I LOVE how Dipper’s character development came in handy when confronting Gideon it’s just aaaaaaaaaaaaa
“You can’t force someone to love you, the best you can do is strive to be someone worthy of loving.” Bro bro bro hold on bro
I mean Gideon has a TOTAL right to be scared of Bill, especially if he doesn’t hold up his end of the deal
It seems like Gideon still did what he did for selfish reasons (impressing Mabel) but it’s nice to know he’s going in the right direction at least

Revving Up the Future: How Toyota’s Latest Beast Marries Muscle with Mindfulness - Feature from Test Miles on Vimeo.
In an era when the automotive industry seems to zigzag between the extremes of raw power and environmental mindfulness, Toyota throws a curveball that might redefine the game. I just beat Final Fantasy (Pixel Remaster). Available on pretty much every modern console. You can even download it on your phone! But I played this one on the Nintendo Switch. Which is appropriate since the original game first released on the Nintendo Entertainment System way back in 1987. The very first Final Fantasy under more than 16 entries in the franchise! Perhaps the very game that pioneered the template for turn-based JRPGs for decades to follow. Who still remembers the little details and artworks in the Nintendo Power Strategy Guide?! Nostalgia aside. Final Fantasy was one of a kind. But how does it hold up against modern games today?
In a nutshell: It's Japanese Dungeons & Dragons without the awkward live human interaction. You choose 4 out of 6 warriors to travel across an 8-bit open world of repetitive turn-based battles via random encounters in order to reactivate the planet's elemental crystals and save the world. This might sound cliche, but keep in mind that this game originated that entire trope! The Light Warriors walked before Cloud, Squall and Lightning were even born. You can choose between several classes: warrior, thief, monk, red mage, white mage and black mage. Each warrior class offered unique pros and cons. You can assemble your own group of 4 warriors and you can even create unique names for your characters! I don't know about you guys/girls, but I had a lot of fun naming warriors "FART" or "BUTT". It provided tons of laughs during future dialogue interactions. But perhaps I'm missing the point? How does this game stack up overall?
The Good: Aside from naming your Red Wizard "TITS" this game offers a lot of depth for an 8-bit game. Although the pixel remake offers updated graphics and sound, the base game is still in-tact. They didn't stray too far from the source material, which is a relief. They preserved the old asthetic and truly improved upon the pixel art. Which better represents Yoshitaka Amano's character designs. Speaking of which, it was a nice addition to include Amano's original concept art in the bonus gallery. I never made the connection first playing it as a child. But now, you can appreciate how well the pixel remaster adapted from that concept art. Definitely a cool supplement.
It's not gory, so it's safe for everyone. However, there is a lot of reading and quick item management involved. So it's not recommended for younger kids or anyone without patience. Which leads to...
The Bad: The random battle system, while innovative at the time, will continue to be an annoying game feature throughout the entire game experience. Unless you are walking around in a town? You are gonna fight. This game does not chill! You're trying to walk across a single hallway to open a treasure chest and you're getting into a battle every two steps. It can get really frustrating. You can't even chill on the fucking WATER without getting into a fight lol! Although, in their defense, the ocean is pretty violent and terrifying in real life. But I digress. Random encounters suck. But, one of the neat new features in the pixel remaster is the auto battle option. It breaks the monotony of repetitive battles and allows you to breeze through most battles and essentially level up faster. While this might seem like a decent fix. It doesn't really offer anything to make the gameplay less monotonous. Also, you really need to read and pay attention to the clues given in this game. You can't just run through and beat this like any old game. You gotta follow the clues, run one fetch quest after another. It's a linear experience but you can get lost fast! Like, my lil nephew would NOT have the patience to play through a game like this. You are not going scratch that Fortnite itch with Final Fantasy. But comparing those two types of games wouldn't be fair (for either genre) But if you can set those superficial flaws aside, you'll find a unique gaming experience that has spawned over a dozen more epic adventures like this one. The tip of the iceberg!
Overall: Final Fantasy is epic! A large world full of unique characters and monsters. Working together for your entertainment. This game was purchased during one of Nintendo's online sales. So it was a great deal for the amount of game you're getting. A nice little slice of nostalgia for veteran gamers. Or perhaps a new experience for those who want to know their roots behind great JRPGs? At all starts with Final Fantasy!

MDF Board– A Convenient Material For Interior Decor
If you follow interior design trends, you’ve likely encountered MDF popping up across decor elements, cabinetry, and furniture projects. MDF (medium-density fiberboard) offers an affordable, versatile material rapidly replacing traditional plywoods and solid woods in fabrication. This article will explore what exactly MDF is, how it’s made, and diverse applications taking the DIY and interiors world by storm. By the end, you’ll see why MDF appeals to everyone from custom furniture workshops to weekend renovation warriors.
What is MDF Board?
MDF stands for medium-density fiberboard, comprised of finely milled wood fibers combined with bonding adhesives and pressed into solid boards. It was initially developed in the 1960s as an affordable alternative to plywood and solid timber boards which were becoming prohibitively expensive.
As a manufactured composite wood product, MDF consistency supercedes the inherent variation found in natural woods subject to knots, grains, and warping. The homogenous texture across MDF boards allows for uniform machining, finishing, and decorative treatments. Meanwhile, density properties provide adequate strength where needed – such as shelving support pieces or furniture frames.
While similarly manufactured like particleboard, MDF contains much finer wood fibers (typically hardwood residual waste) and more powerful resin adhesives. The result is greater durability and stability while maintaining affordability production advantages. These well-balanced performance and cost metrics make MDF today’s preferred furniture building material. It’s also quickly being adopted by contractors and DIY’ers across cabinetry, moulding, and renovation projects.
What is MDF Made Of?
As a composite panel product, MDF consists primarily of:
Wood Fibers – Making up approximately 75-85% of board mass depending on thickness, wood chips and dust comprise the base raw ingredient. Most fiber is sourced from residual hardwood waste streams like oak, maple, birch or poplar dust from lumber production operations. Using waste dramatically reduces input costs and environmental harvesting impacts.
Resin Binders – Around 10% of a board’s weight comes from bonding adhesives like urea formaldehyde or other resin formulations which activate under heat and pressure to cement material. Binders liberate volatile organic compounds (VOCs) during pressing for strict emission controls in modern MDF factories.
Wax – A small MDF ingredient proportion of around 1%, paraffin wax and silicon derivatives aid in smoothing board surfaces from press platens for optimal finesse.
The remaining input mass encompasses process aspects like moisture and press additives to form boards in desired shapes and sizes. Premium MDF brands also integrate background checks that fibers come from certified sustainable forestry stewards.
How is MDF Board Manufactured?
While you won’t likely be making MDF in your backyard anytime soon, understanding the general production process helps appreciate why MDF costs significantly less than solid wood. In a nutshell, processing involves:
Debarked wood reduced to pulp – Timber ends from lumber operations get debarked, chipped, shredded, and milled into fine fibers suspended in water slurry. This pulp gets blended with precise resin adhesive ratios into a viscous furnish.
Furnish de-aired and separated into cake – Before pressing, the thick premix gets de-aired under vacuum. Then it's extruded into cake layers at exact caliper heights to shape boards.
Cake compressed into boards – Blanket cakes move to pressing stations between heated steel platens auto-calibrating to specific densities and sizes. Once resin cures from heat, a continuous panel product emerges rather than individual boards.
Cooled then cut to size – The endless panel gets trimmed to standard building product dimensions as it cools. Edges get machined smooth, and panels are racked for quality checks and curing before orders dispatch.
With the combination of high throughput, low variability, and wood waste feedstock, MDF achieves cost points impossible for solid woods needing sawing, planing, defect removal, edging and custom sizing. Factories balance productivity and air quality via automated, high-tech presses encapsulating emissions.
Where and How to Use MDF Board
MDF was initially manufactured to substitute plywood and timber in industrial furniture and cabinetry fabrication. But user-friendly machining and finishing quickly expanded applications to diverse market segments thanks to MDF’s combination of cost, consistency and capabilities covering both strength and aesthetics.
Some common interior design and construction uses include:
Cabinet Boxes and Shelving – MDF constitutes an ideal hidden substrate for built-in cabinets and closets. It machines precisely for components while resisting warping from humidity over plywood. MDF edging creates perfectly smooth surfaces for hinges, tracks and adjoining trim.
Door Cores – Many hollow and flat interior doors utilize MDF frames underlying veneer, lamination or paint finishes. MDF delivers reliable stability so door slabs don’t distort and bindings remain securely adhered. Strengthened perimeter MDF edges prevent impact dings.
Crown Molding – Intricately shaped trim and decoration depends on smooth, detailable substrates before layering ornamental elements. MDF offers the best starting point for precision routing and retaining the finest detailing from patterns or prototypes with no tear out.
Accent Walls and Backsplashes – MDF serves as an excellent underlayer when applying specialty finishes like textured plasters or tile. Primer-prepped MDF won’t soak up layers unevenly, ensuring color consistency across painted projects.
Furniture Components – Modern casegoods utilize MDF for panels, drawer boxes, rails, frames and commercial-grade products. MDF lasts far longer than particleboard while allowing furniture-quality finishing and on-demand CNC customization.
Signage and Displays - Dimensional lettering, logos, exhibit panels and decorative fixtures shine when machined or printed on MDF. It prevents printed graphics from deteriorating over plywood while providing sturdy, screw-worthy anchoring for mounts and stands.
Arts and Crafts – From children’s hobby projects to professional ready-to-finish craft supply blanks, smooth MDF boards retain precise markings with no tearing while supporting layers like paint, paper mâché or decoupage.
The expansive interior design versatility stems from precision machining/cutting, consistent finishing results and reliable stability surpassing natural wood boards. As manufacturing innovations further improve moisture and emissions properties, expect MDF penetration to keep expanding across both residential and commercial markets.
Conclusion
MDF has cemented itself as a new millennium wonder material – an engineered amalgamation of waste wood fibers and petroleum chemistry delivering fabrication capabilities on par with solid woods at a fraction of the cost. MDF popularity will continue rising thanks to decorator-friendly machinability and finishing behaviors combined with adequate strength properties suiting most furniture or architectural roles.
But MDF is not a standalone solution, as surface protection and edge finishes are still required during use. Nor does MDF match luxury aesthetics and environmental stewardship tenets of solid domestic lumbers. Rather, MDF Boards fills a unique niche benefiting designers needing consistency, precision and value across fabrication and renovation projects. Its mass adoption signals a new norm of hybrid materials synergizing natural and manufactured advantages.
