one thing thats fascinating to me is that the dwarves mustve awoken long before sun and moon first rose because that happend around the timeframe the noldor arrived at which point dwarves were already established enough to be comissioned to build menegroth. khazad-dum itself was even built during the years of the trees… do the dwarves know that aule made the vessels for sun and moon (🥺)? in general does aule communicate with the dwarves in some way? through dreams or other signs? sobbing on my knees because we have no info on religious practices. anyways imagine their great halls with me & how they mightve worked glittering stars into some of the roofs to emulate the nightskies they awoke under. hey also isnt it crazy that their language stayed the same everywhere over centuries so that dwarven cultures that havent interacted with one another in a thousand years can still understand eachother. they HOLD ON!!!!

self-indulgent oc moodboards 3/?
signý daughter of skáld , wife of gloin, mother of gimli
born in poverty to two exiled ereborean longbeards in ered luin, signý rose above her humble beginnings when she captured the heart of gloin son of groin while working as a barmaid. the two were married by gloin’s cousin, the king in exile thorin oakenshield, and  signý’s only son gimli was born very quickly afterwards. despite her lack of formal schooling and any official craft,  signý assimilated quickly into the house of durin and focussed on obtaining the best possible education for her son. she also became quite well travelled as she often journeyed with gloin while he worked as a travelling merchant.  securing a better future for his wife and son was said to have been the deciding factor for gloin to join the company of thorin oakenshield on the quest for erebor.
after the reclamation of erebor,  signý became a wealthy woman. she and her husband invested some of their money into buying several taverns of their own, which were a great success, in part due to gloin’s new status as a war hero.
signý was rumoured to have a form of foresight, which manifested in the form of disturbing thoughts and visions*. it is said to be due to these visions that she forbade her son from the quest to khazad-dum, but allowed his journeying to rivendell for what would become the ring quest. during the war of the ring,  signý and gloin fought in the battle of dale, at the last line of defense due to their ages, and both survived to welcome their son home.  signý died twenty years after her husband, in year 35 of the fourth age, at the age of 263.
signý was a highly religious woman and known to pray to aule multiple times a day without fail. she was shy and superstitious, but did have a select number of close friends, even eventually becoming friends with some lasgalen nobility after the war of the ring.  signý ‘s life became a popular subject among the bards and playwrights of erebor, being a classic example of the “dirt-to-diamonds” story convention, which is enjoyed among dwarves.
*- speculated to have been ocd.

The idea of orc kingdoms eventually morphing into a hybrid between Switzerland and Nepal actually works really well for what i had in mind.
As for the hobbits, in this timeline they never really leaves the vale of Anduin in large numbers, instead their nation do to say, becoming part of larger realms of Rhovanion, the same way the Shire started off as a personally granted fiefdom inside Arthudain by Aragorns ancestors(Its way more complex than that, but you get the idea).
Keeping with Tolkien's very thorough description of them, they never really take all that well to technology past the level of mills, though with their close relation to the Kingdom of Gundabad, together they do develop a new form of agriculture we call Terrace farming. The dwarfs carve them out, the Hobbits farm the land, sell them back the food they don't eat, both sides benefit greatly from this partnership as is the prefered dwarven way of life.
Of course their existence biggest problem in the long run is being forced to coexist with a world where magic and science begin to develop into something new, something far, far beyond their simple, prefered farming way of life.
One thing though, is that some hobbits of this timeline do travel the world a lot more, and the occasional "madness" of wanderlust that must have struck the OT Hobbits in the days of old when there were travelers who went all the way to the Southlands and saw oliphants, never really dies off in the self isolated, and cut off world of the shire.
Still, they are a small folk, who prefer to be left to their own devices.
As for the coming of the son of man, it is in many ways a very different world(both physically and methaphysically), as the Maiar have mostly left the world to their own devices after the first age, they do still pop up from time to time east of the great sea, and pretty much all greater human religion is related to them in some way(i assume the way Tolkien had in mind for this, would be that the Valar is supposed to be the proto indo-european pagan gods that inspired so many different, but shared religions, such as norse, greek, tengri, etc, with one, shared origin.) Forming this tapestry of connected but separate faiths, that are vaguely aware of each other, but dont know/care how it all fits together.
In that regard Eru's son completely changes that, as rather than being a mostly new religion for the majority of the world, his teachings is instead in large part about reminding/teaching these various faiths that they are part of a shared tapestry, where Eru is supreme, and all the various "Gods" of the earth, are but his servants.
Also, just like in the real world, his ultimate message will be received differently. To take one example, the Elves will point out that they already honor Eru illuvatar, and that as you noted, they are not "Men" and such are not part of the people he has come to redeem.
Dwarves have mixed views on him, with the misty mountain dwarves revering him for a certain exorcism of a demon in Khazad-Dum, while the asian and african dwarves mostly stick with honoring their ancestors and Aule.
Hobbits like what he's preaching, but its not exactly very different from their normal way of life.
Humans are as wildly different about it as they are in real life, only with fewer competitor religions. Plenty of interschism though, with the exact same cycles of internal corruption, decadence, reformation, splintering, rise of new sect, corruption, decadence, reformation, that we see in the real world.
As for Orcs, what i had in mind if i wanted to go with it being the messiah that changes them fundamentally, is the idea that Orcs in the metaphysical sense are steeped with original sin, infused into them by Morgoth's corruption on them and their ancestors. They have free will(Even in the OTL, tolkien noted that the only people who did not fight on both sides during sauron's wars during the second era, was Elves, meaning some orcs made the choice to oppose the rising dark lord), but have an inborn wish for cruelty and making others suffer that other races simply does not have.
As such, even "civilized" Orcs are a very, very different people than other races.
In that regard, the coming of the messiah(and more more importantly his death) is a moment that fundamentally changed the Orcs as a people completely, as it literally washed away this inborn need for cruelty, sadism and hatred for themselves and others from the Orcs completely as a whole.
What comes out the other side, is a race that don't much resembles the Elves of old, but are not Humans either. Instead, they are something new.
They are however, very, very industrious, and clever about machinery, which defines them in the same way mining mountains define Dwarves.
And of course that's not taking into account hybrid people like the Uruk-Hai. I could easily see a kingdom of Half-Orcs(being both stronger than their full orcish cousins, but also not weak against the sun) rise at some point. Especially if full Orcs are forced into vassalage by the humans.
Interesting stuff. I think I like the idea of tying Original Sin to what happened to the orcs, as in both cases there's an involuntary inheritance going on that needs to be undone. That said, I'm not still not very confident about even making Jesus known to the non-human species; as you note, the message and purpose has little to do with anyone but humanity, and The Silmarillion has a kind of policy of each species minding its own business, to the point where the elves don't really know where humans came from or even when, and have little inkling of the whole Original Sin thing. I like the idea of Jesus coming along and doing this thing, and the Elves and Dwarves just have a notion that something happened and it seems to have involved this important dude who might have been a prophet or something, and are troubled by the more detailed explanations they get.
But that would require a certain degree of isolation that might not be possible in the story/AU you want to do, and it's entirely possible I'm making too much of a thing Tolkien didn't even really intend.
It's certainly a tricky thing to deal with Jesus in a story where the Christian religion is a major part of the behind-the-scenes workings, since that really brings things to the forefront. Everything about the history of Christianity is defined by the nature of competitive religions, so putting it in a setting where Elves heard about the origin of the universe directly from the major angels can really change its nature. I suppose in that kind of a setting, Jesus's coming can really change the orcs that universally and fundamentally, but I would personally favor a telling where it provides an opportunity for the orcs, and it all comes down to individuals in how they respond to it. The idea of a 'good' practitioner of technological advance is a bit counter to Tolkien's themes in his stories, but it would definitely take this AU in new and very interesting directions.

in the fellowship of the ring the fellows visit two places that are in some sort of state of ruin, whether literally or bc the people are cloaked in an inevitable doom of Ending: khazad-dum and lothlorien—
to enter khazad-dum and find sanctuary from the cold, they must speak friend to a door made and coded by a dwarf and an elf (who loved each other) and amidst the turmoil, legolas pulls gimli from his grief and forces him to keep moving despite the loss.
to enter lothlorien, everyone is blindfolded for the sake of companionship (even the elf), and there the greatest noldor elf on this side of the sea says to gimli “i know your pain. i feel it too. i would risk much for a beloved home.” very much a we-are-the-same moment. and the gimli and legolas spend a lot of time wondering around lothlorien, the last time either of them will be there, bc now they are bosom friends and must help each other after the loss of gandalf.
in the two towers, they both find these dark and un-cherished places, a cavern of glittering stones and an old forest of trees with Personalities, sort of incidental to their quest, and they vow to each other to return to those places after the war, with the intention of being there with the other when they walk through the natural landscapes beloved by their beloved creators, aule and yavanna—as above, so below, etc—the stones love the trees, the caves love the forests, the earth loves itself, aule the rock-god is married to yavanna the plant-god, gimli and legolas love each other and sail the sea.
it’s really not very complicated :)

This is the uncensored version of my answer to this ask i received :
2- ☕ Give us one (or more if you feel like it) of your OCs deep dark secrets! Why do they keep it hidden? Spill the tea! for Jrié
As I said, I answered in the form of a small comic book with explanations, except that the eighth box shows a close-up of Jrié's wounded and BLOOD COVERED face. As I am someone who is easily shocked by images, gory drawings, I think that this is the case for other people and surely among those who follow me so I had chosen not to include it in my answer and to include the whole comic in a separate post.
Of course, it doesn't change anything to the understanding if I put the drawing or not, but I broke my ass to draw Jrié in blood so I post anyway XD.
To read the censored version, without the drawing of Jrié's bloody face, it is here.
Let’s jump back in time to the First Age :
The city of   Gabilgathol   of Parar and Jrié is prosperous in the Blue Mountains (also called Ered Luin or Belegost ) and still none of the fathers and mothers of the Dwarves have met Elves. This time was called Years of the Stars.
Durin founded his City in Khazad-Dum, while Barkem and Mirelm, born alongside Parar and Jrié, stayed with them in the City of Gabilgathol. Harr and Errob as well as Embr and Bruin are in Tumunzahar.
Dwarves are a secretive people, fierce and very proud of their culture. Their language is Khuzdul, their sign language is Iglishmêk. Khuzdul is rarely used outside of Dwarven cities, especially in the presence of other peoples, and few outsiders can learn a few bits of it. Dwarves rarely teach it themselves, for their language is “a secret they did not willingly reveal, even to their friends”.
There is one point on which Dwarves are adamant: they always refuse to teach their true names to any outsider, so much so that even their graves do not bear their real names. Thus, the names of the Dwarves known in the stories are in fact taken from the language of the Northmen (this is the case for Gimli, Balin etc.)
And this is where we come to the Petty-Dwarves. They differed from normal dwarves in several ways: they were smaller, much more unsociable, and they gave their names freely in Khuzdul.  They were dwarfs of several houses, who had been exiled.
The Elves, who did not yet know the dwarves at tis time, thought that the petty-dwarves were animals and hunted them. It was only when the dwarves of the Blue Mountains made contact with these Elves and explained to them what the Petty-Dwarves were that they were mostly left alone.
But what happened the first time a dwarf was exiled?
Tumblr media
In the first square, Jrie, dressed in a tunic and with a braided beard, has just discovered that one of their children (I use the word child because this dwarf comes from their City and is probably their great-great-great-great grandchild) is not only using his name Khuzdul in front of humans, but he is also explaining to them blacksmithing techniques kept secret until now.
Jrié rarely goes out of the mines, and this since his awakening, he rarely goes to the surrounding Human Cities and this day it was a pure chance that he decided to stroll in the first village at the foot of their Mountains.
He was just passing by when he overheard a conversation between this dwarf and some humans blacksmiths. His people had taught the Humans how to handle metal and create iron objects, but they had never taught them in detail. It was THEIR knowledge, their treasure, their inheritance given by Aulë.
After the surprise and the shock, came the incomprehension and the sadness. Why was he doing this? The customs were clear, however. When he told Parar about it, there was an apocalypse in the city, and the lady dwarf screamed so many insults that no one could understand the reason for her anger. It took her days to calm down, and when she finally did, neither she nor Jrié knew what to do, nor did they agree on what to do.
Unable to decide, they traveled to Khazad-Dûm, the city of Durin, Aulë’s first child, to ask his advice. (Parar is on the right in the second panel, explaining the situation to Durin on the left, wearing a blue cloak set with white diamonds and his hair and beard set with lapiz lazuli, agate and quartz). This was the first time such an incident had occurred, and Durin decided to call a meeting of all the dwarf fathers and mothers to discuss it.
Tumblr media
The discussion was complicated, to say the least, and lasted a whole day. But in the end, everyone agreed on one thing: if the dwarf at fault had been able to reveal these secrets so easily, he could also tell others, if not all of them. Unfortunately, some secrets are more intimate and dangerous than others, and it was clear that they could not let this go unpunished.
Afraid that the dwarf would do it again, afraid that other dwarves might do the same, they made the painful decision to banish the offender.
Beards are cherished by Dwarves, they take great care of them, never cutting them off except in cases of shame, grief and sadness. Durin cut off the beard of the Dwarf, in front of the gathered population of the City of Parar and Jrié. He also cut off his hair, leaving him with only a knife, the clothes he was already wearing, and some food.
Jrié and Parar were, at that moment, only puddles of tears. Jrié felt bad about going to consult with Durin and…to say that Parar wanted to tear their brother’s head off is an understatement, her anger only contained because Jrié was holding her hand. Although Parar and Jrie were the most affected by the sentence, the other couples and even Durin had a hard time adjusting to the situation. There were many tears shed.
Tumblr media
The rules of exile that Durin laid down were clear: the banished dwarf was no longer allowed to come and live near the other Dwarf Cities. He was forbidden to talk to Dwarves. No trading with dwarves. He would never again be able to find help among his own people, any comfort, food, nothing. Rejected until his death.
But Jrié disobeyed, finding the sentence too heavy, and even if Durin’s decision was made and indisputable, he decided one evening to go in search of the banished one, without warning anyone, hoping to bring him back, to make him apologize. He knew he was risking a lot, because no one, not even his own brothers and sisters, would question Durin’s decisions.
Maybe, just maybe, Durin would change his mind and give the dwarf a second chance if Jrié brought him back? He hoped so.
After several weeks of tracking him, he found him. And while he didn’t expect a warm welcome, he didn’t expect a violent reaction. The banished dwarf rejected him violently, arguing that it was his fault that he had been banished, and that if he had not been able to prevent his exile he could never bring him back.
JRIE’S BLOODY FACE UNDER
Tumblr media
In the Blue Mountains, Parar stayed at the Forge day and night, tears streaming down her cheeks, refusing to sleep and thus to see her husband, unaware of his departure.
It wasn’t until he walked into the Forge, his face bloody from tearing out his beard and hair in sadness, despair, regret and anger, sobbing to himself that he couldn’t bring their child back, that she understood what he’d been trying to do and took him in her arms.
Tumblr media
He continued to disobey again and again for several centuries, always going to the exiled dwarves in secret, trying to protect them without arousing suspicion, until the death of the last Petty-Dwarves, Mîm, whose body he found lifeless.
Parar has always known, without them talking about it since the first exiled dwarf. They don’t talk about it.
Durin was never informed, nor were any of the other fathers and mothers.
and what would happen if Durin were to know about it, Jrié doesn’t want to think about that.
this is not a deep dark secret but it’s an important secret anyway :)

Dwarrowtober Day 13 - Courtship
(Part 1 of 3, composing of Days 13, 14 and 15)
Dwarves are, as most know, hardy creatures. They work in the heat and glare of the forges, they charge into battle with nothing more than an axe and a will, and they resist all temptation from evil with nary a thought. Dwarves, as is said, are some of the greatest, strongest, most competent beings on Middle-Earth.
That does not mean they are good at romance.
Despite not many dwarves actually marrying – in part because of the two to one ratio of men to women, in part because of all dwarves’ love of craftmanship – this does no mean they are immune to the feeling of love. As Narvi, someday to be the greatest dwarf smith of his time, had just discovered.
“You know, staring at someone doesn’t usually endear them to you” Noted Ledo, sounding far to amused for Narvi’s already vexed state. “Asking, or even just talking to her, might yield better results.”
Narvi glared, cheeks flushing in a rare moment of embarrassment. “I am not staring!”
“Sure.” He was still chuckling, amusement in his eyes. “Just admit it, you’re afraid to talk.”
“I am not …”
“The unflappable Narvi of Khazad-dum, stumped by a crush! Why, if someone had told me such an event would happen, I would have cried them a fool!”
Before Narvi could beat him a new one – why exactly was he friends with this Aule-dammned dwarf? – they were interrupted by a voice, smooth as a jewel yet deep as stone. “Narvi, is it?”
Underneath his beard, he paled. Turning, Narvi faced the object of their discussion. Like all dwarves, she was strong, well built, and suited to the harshness of their lives. Another smith, she also wore her beard tied back, even as the pale blonde got darken with sweat. And right now, contrary to her normal expression, was a clear look of annoyance.
Summoning his courage (he would not embarrass himself in front of a stranger!) Narvi replied as calmly as he could. “Yes. Do you have a query Azir?” Internally he flinched at his own overly stiff language.
She however, just laughed softly, looking almost gentle, as far as a dwarf could. “As a matter of fact, I did. What is this I’m hearing about you crushing on me?”
Glaring at Ledo – that fuckin’ idiot had ruined everything – Narvi scrambled for a reply, before settling on the truth. Not like he had much too lose. “Yes. I’m sorry, its really not appropriate as we’re co-workers and all …” He trailed off as she had started too outright grin.
“For someone so good at smithing, you are remarkable dumb.” She commented, grinning harshly now, a smile much more suited to her face. “You really had no clue about my not at all subtle hints?”
Blinking, Narvi though back to their previous interactions. She had spoken too him quite a bit, about crafts and metals that captured his imagination and awe in a way none of their other fellows work had. His attraction had originally been founded in that art, and how it mirrored his own. But upon thinker closer, Narvi came to realise that for someone so notoriously standoff-ish, she had spoken with him a lot. And her sharing of plans, debates on techniques, comparison of styles …
Well. He’d be damned. She did like him.
She took his hand, still looking amused. “If it please you, I would be honoured to court you, Narvi of Khazad-Dum.”
“Likewise, Azir of Khazad-Dum”

how did Thira happen? 😮 im interested!
ahhh anon you know the way to my heart,,, asking me about my ocs,, !!!! <3
also this got long so i put it under a cut lol
So Thyra is the daughter of Celebrimbor and fem!Narvi; I haven’t written a fic about her (yet) but I did talk about her in ch8 of ATATYA. Basically, Tyelpe and Narvi had been flirting for awhile, and then hooked up; not long after they both confessed that by their respective cultural traditions they’d kind of...claimed each other as their spouse? Like Narvi had given Tyelpe marriage braids, and, well, they fucked which - in this verse I play it fast and loose with LaCE, but while lots of people (including most of Tyelpe’s uncles lol) disregard the “sex=marriage” custom, it is still a custom and if it can be an excuse for Tyelpe and Narvi to be together he’s gonna take advantage of that.
Anyway, that’s how Tyelpe and Narvi’s secret unconventional marriage happened. I see them both as arospec, so they’re both kind of “??” about what exactly it is they feel for each other, but they definitely love and care about one another. Elves and dwarves get along better in Ost-in-Edhil than they do anywhere else, but a marriage between them is still...controversial, unprecedented, and neither of them want people bugging them about it so they just don’t really tell anyone.
Anyway - Thyra’s conception was accidental (I’m a sucker for the trope of elf/mortal couples where the elf is like “????? an accident??? that’s not how having kids work!!” and the mortal is like “buddy. yes it is”) and Tyelpe has uh.... issues around parenting and fatherhood (that’s just canon baby) so he kind of freaks out? But he and Narvi eventually work things out and decide to keep the baby.
Thyra’s name means thunder (well, that’s her public dwarven name; her Khuzdul name is [redacted] which is code for me being like “idk man,” and only Narvi and Thyra herself knew it) because she was born in the middle of the storm and came out yelling like thunder. She took after her mother - she’s still a peredhel, and she has Tyelpe’s eyes and pointed ears, and an indefinite(?) lifespan, and she’s taller than the average dwarf - but overall she can pass for a dwarf, and that’s what she does. (Also, I do think she has a beard but it’s sooo hard to find good pics of bearded women for edits, so my excuse for why she doesn’t in the one I just made is Elvish Blood, lmao.) Dwarven culture doesn’t have the same kind of concepts around parenthood as elven culture; Narvi never says who Thyra’s father is and nobody asks because it’s not their business.
Thyra grows up a bit slower than the other dwarflings, and often visits her father. She’s ~10 when Narvi tells her that Tyelpe is her father, not just a close family friend. Tyelpe tries really hard to be a good dad, and he is, for the most part, while Narvi is around - though because of the secret nature of his marriage and Thyra’s identity it’s not perfect, and he’s very hard on himself.
And then...Narvi dies. She’s a dwarf; she’s mortal. Thyra is an adult by this point, and Tyelpe kind of sinks into a depression. He and Thyra fight and say unkind things to each other and Thyra sooort of disowns him? This is not the last time they see each other, but that really hits Tyelpe hard because uh. echoes of him and his own father, yikes.
Anyway, it’s not too long after this that Annatar shows up in Eregion and seduces poor Tyelpe... Thyra sees right through him and tries desperately to convince her father that he’s Bad News, but we all know how that story ends. Unfortunately the last time they see each other they have a big fight; Thyra accuses Tyelpe of never having loved Narvi, and Annatar of using Narvi’s memory against him...and then she storms away furious. A month later Eregion falls.
There’s a bit more to Thyra’s story, but I don’t have as many details. She mostly hangs out with her dwarvish kin, who definitely know there’s something weird with her considering how long-lived she is but are too polite to ask. She fights in the War of the Last Alliance and is instrumental in convincing the dwarves of Khazad-dum to go help her pen-pal Gil-galad (also a secret peredhel in this verse, lol).
She survives that and...idk, Annatar/Sauron definitely knows she exists, so in the Third Age he sets a bounty on her head as The Last Feanorian (conveniently ignoring Elrond) and the Witch-king tries to hunt her down? Something with the War in Angmar??? I’m not sure. The Angmar War ends in TA 1977 - she probably retreats to Khazad-dum if she hadn’t already - and then oops bad luck! because in TA 1980 the Balrog awakes in Moria...
Thyra dies defending her people from Durin’s Bane, allowing more of them to escape while she distracts the Balrog. A heroic ending for a heroic dwelf. She is offered the Choice of the Peredhel and chooses to be counted as a dwarf; she reunites with Narvi in Aule’s halls, and since IMO that’s like...a subsection of Mandos, Tyelpe’s spirit is allowed to visit from time to time, so they get to make up.

What do you think came of Gimli and Legolas in Valinor? What do you think, did Gimli introduce Legolas to all his dead relatives at the first opportunity or is it impossible? Did he meet Aule (potentially becoming the first Dwarf to meet their Divine Father while being alive)?
Okay, before I answer Gimli and Legolas, know that I am that Durin/Daeron shipper.  (I’m also a Míriel/Daeron crackship but not because I’m serious, and thus have slowly sauntered my way into a OT3 of Míriel/Daeron/Durin living it up in the Halls of Mandos). Now I try to preserve a sliver of ambiguity re: does Durin actually reincarnate and are the dwarven souls staying within the confides of Arda after death... But yeah, yes. A corner of the Halls of Mandos are full of dwarves, the Living Jewel of Khazad-dum -having finally died- has joined them, Legolas shows up with Gimli and they are both eagerly embraced by both Mahal and Yavanna- and then Daeron and Durin introduce themselves and compare notes. And when Gimli finally faded away (remember, mortals in Valinor don’t live forever there), he joined that part of the Hall - and then Míriel used her set of work keys because she is an honorary Maiar of Vairë so that Legolas could keep visiting.

Amdir
I was going to post this as a reblog of this @askmiddlearth post comparing the Elvish kings, but it got a bit long so here it is separately.  That post says about Amdir:
Amdir (King of Lorien)
Reign: A little over 2,000 years. Created his own dynasty, and died in 3434SA at the Battle of Dagorlad. Accomplishments: Traveled from Lindon to Lorien in order to establish a Sindarin dynasty in the Silvan community there. Narrative Bias: Not much information.
There is one other thing we hear of Amdir though...
In Unfinished Tales, we hear that Elrond coming to the aid of Eregion with his army out of Lindon was beaten back into the north by Sauron’s armies, and would have been killed, if it were not for the forces of Amdir of Lorien and Durin of Moria which attacked Sauron in the rear, allowing Elrond to get away.   So here we have a fascinating picture of Amdir as a Sindarin king of Silvan Elves who apparently gets on MUCH better with the Dwarves than Oropher or Celeborn (who stayed in Eregion when Galadriel left because  he refused to pass through Khazad Dum.)
Amdir apparently has no problem passing through the Dwarf-city in order to stage an attack on the Enemy.  Durin King of Moria let him through and their armies fought side by side very effectively, and retreated together back into Moria when Sauron turned to attack them.
I wonder if this attack was deliberately coordinated with Elrond’s?  If it was, then perhaps this is Galadriel ( student of Aule and noted friend of Dwarves,  currently resident in Lorien as Amdir’s guest) at work?
You wonder too if Amdir knew who was leading the Lindon force : Elrond as Dior’s grandson would be the obvious person to be High King of the Sindar, if the Sindar still had a King: did that factor into Amdir’s desire to help?
(I rather like the idea that there are still Elves in Lorien who fought with Amdir and Durin, when Gimli arrived with the Fellowship. So Celeborn’s faction in Lorien are all ‘NEVER TRUST A DWARF!’ and meanwhile there’s  a couple of people in the background going : OMG!  His beard!  He looks just like my old friend Bobbin who saved my life in the Battle of Moria Gate!

I will NOT do CapDum (Captain x Dum), Player x Bro, Player x Noob, The Gentleman x Mother, or anyone x Goober, but anything else is fine
Along with requests, I will do stimboards that I come up with on my own, so occasionally, I'll post stimboards that weren't requested, but rather ones I made for fun
I will do ships and characters that I've done before, but please, don't spam me with asks for the same ship/character, because I might be doing other requests or even working on yours
Also, if you want to, feel free to block #ask, I'll be tagging any posts where I answer asks or let people know their requests are done with that so if you just want to see the stimboards, block that tag.
I will do gift stimboards and non-aul stimboards, but I'll be mostly focusing on aul ones. Feel free to request a stimboard as a gift for a friend, though I will need their url, a picture to use for the center, and, if you want one, a specific theme and color scheme.
Feel free to ask me to trigger tag anything, or to exclude certain types of gifs from your request. I won't know if you don't ask though, so please tell me if you need something tagged
I tag my personal favorite stimboards with "ash's faves"! There's no bias based on characters or requesters, it's just which ones I like :3
With that said, request away!

Above picture is Durin I discovering Mirrormere
Durin I was one of the Seven Dwarf Fathers, Specifically the Longbeards. He was created by Aule, and was put to sleep in Gundabad to sleep until he Elves First awoke.
He was known as Durin the Deathless for having the longest known lifespan among dwarves (at least 1000 years) and would be reincarnated six times as a direct descendent.
He would discover mirrormere and subsequently founded Khazad-dum
He’s believed to have reigned throughout the Age of the Trees till the early years of the First Age.

Fluff, Nervous Thranduil, Mild Smut
...
Mairon the Admirable. Since the beginning of things he was focused on order and perfection, though as always in the end for love he gained far from it. Bluebell, the Hobbit Mother, a creation of Yavanna’s granted the strength of a Maiar in Eru’s affection for the pure being set to bring to life a race of creatures focused solely on defending all good, green and homely. For all her traits and carefree motions through Yavanna’s gardens she easily spotted the one she believed to be her One in Aule’s workshop already sending her an adoring glance hoping she would finally look up.
In Vanlinor time mattered little but far sooner than anticipated a Daughter was born. Mirroring her mother in all but the pitch black hair bearing her mother’s unrelenting curls. But as everyone knows Mairon soon met Melkor and darkness and mischief began at what could be achieved and ruled in the world outside Valinor. Seemingly ageless the innocent toddler was granted reprieve in the eyes of Manwe. Ties with Bluebell and their child were severed when confronted with a choice, should he continue his path to spare his child he would agree never to see or claim her again leaving her as child to Mairon the Admirable, a title he was no longer allowed to claim. Soon he left those heavenly shores forcing himself to never look back as Bluebell’s love for her first child brought about more in her absence. See, there was another catch, neither parent could raise her.
From the Elves in Valinor Yavanna herself carried the child to her new Father. Out of the many possible she chose young Celeborn with another daughter of his own nearly fully grown. Time rolled on and yet you never aged, at least not until Celeborn had settled from Lindon into Lothlorien. All eyes turned to the brightly growing child in their midst at the first sign of growth. Through to the end of the first age you lived there, uncertain of where you fit in exactly sending you to the Hobbiton nearby their borders. You had learned all you could about Elven culture and hoped to learn more about your assumed Hobbit side.
Sure you had small feet and were just barely over five feet tall but still in appetite and stubbornness alone you clearly fit the description while your love for crafting seemingly from nowhere and ability to greatly control all plant life around you added to your Elven appeal drawing a great number of requested visits for you to from your Smial Celeborn frequently visited even with the struggle of his tall stature.
.
From the minute you entered BagEnd there was something about you that drew Thorin to you right away as a kindred soul. And the nearer you drew to Rivendell he saw his suspicion about who you were was true. Camp was set and a hiss was heard in your move through the trees around you making your head turn as you palmed a golden ring you found filling the canteens at Gloin’s side. In your turn back to the camp you were tackled by a nearly naked screeching shriveled creature. Over your body a wash of blood passed through the water from the now dead body Gloin kicked onto the shore after scooping you up out of the water. Coughing up water you were circled by the Dwarves all checking on you before assigning a search group to scout the area. Leading to the discovery of a trio of trolls that were easily ambushed with their hoard tucked away in a Hobbit formed trunk able to carry twenty times normal capacity of a trunk its size easily holding it all.
Curiously you eyed the ring in your palm and eased it on your finger only to watch it vanish from sight as Dwalin met your side. Still it sat unseen but was felt pulsing lightly as your mind snapped out of your reoccurring dream of a man you knew as your father wreathed in light with a mother far smaller and far brighter in a world long since visited by you. With a grin you joined the men on returning to camp to rest for the night before heading to Rivendell in the morning.
Slipping out of the Elven kingdom at the first sight of the woman refusing to claim you as her child since first laying eyes on you now darkening as her eyes turned to you. A ring was torn from her finger by its own will after her darkening gaze deepened in her approach to you at her arrival. Without a word however you muttered a single word in ancient Valinorian, “Diminish,” and her eyes snapped open shifting to a lifeless gaze on her body’s walk to the gates of Rivendell on her path to the Grey Havens. Before any Elf Lord could find and console you the Company had followed your lead packing and hurrying out of their borders leaving only word of a dispute of some sort between you sending the White Lady to sail as you all but vanished into the wilds again.
South along the Misty Mountains you traveled to the pass of Khazhad Dum. The clear path you had hoped to find was filled with orcs and goblins battling the beast in the lake they had stirred. A single utterance from you as the Balrog came to face it sent out a pulse from you cascading off the angled doors left open to sweep through the massive keep fading all the dark creatures as nothing but piles of armor and weapons left behind when their bodies were destroyed. Disbelieving chuckles came from the company as they scurried inside collecting all keys along the way, the doors along the way were sealed with not just the traditional locks but with Elvish runes you marked around the edges keeping all dark creatures from reentering again.
That pulse had done more than you could see, around you dust fell and as ancient runes lit up awakening the mountain keep to seal and light itself again. Places to rest were secured along the way until you reached the edges of Lothlorien. Still unable to sleep for lack of exertion you sat awake peering out over an overlook at the vast hall of pillars lost in thought until Thorin settled heavily at your side. An easy smile formed on his lips as he asked, “Can’t sleep?”
You shook your head, “No. I keep having this dream.”
Gently his hand folded around yours making your eyes drop to your lap seeking the source of warmth now coating them. In a turn of your head you locked your eyes with his seeing his deepening smile in his shifting a bit closer to your side. Lowly he spoke before you could say anything. “I wished to share something with you.” You nodded, “My people, we have a tale of our Father Mahal. In the beginning before the world began to darken one of his pupils among the Maiar fell in love with the Mother of Hobbits. They had a child, however as Mairon-,”
“You know this tale?”
He nodded seeing the tears and doubts filling your eyes, in a comforting rumble he continued, “We have guessed you are this child. And should it be true you are not your father just as I am not my grandfather. You have earned your place among us and no doubt you have earned our respect and trust. There has been no sign of any dark corners in your being, after all our Father ensured your protection by severing your ties with Mairon before you could be corrupted as well.” His hand rose to wipe your cheek, “We have all agreed to keep this fact between us, you will be marked as Maiar and treated as an adopted daughter of Lord Celeborn among my people. You have my word.”
With a hint of a smile you leaned over resting your head on his shoulder earning a chuckle from him, softly as you looked over the great hall again, “I get flashes of him, your Mahal,” his head turned to peer at you in shock, “I remember his hopes he had for your people and what you would achieve.” He wet his lips anxiously uncertain of what you were trying to say, “I used to wonder what you could do and now that I see it I don’t think he would be disappointed. Such a grand place, even in the dark.”
A grin grew on his face at your compliment for his kin, “Just wait until we scrub it up.”
.
Around the borders of those lands you led the men catching sight of a few passing guards in crossing the river towards Northern Greenwood. On your path the guards raced off to alert Lord Celeborn of your passing and path ahead. All as your eyes lingered on the Southern kingdom and the shadow rising there shooting off into the distance at your arrival sending deathly cries of the dark creatures dwelling there in their final moments of life as the source of their power and protection fled sending off a powerful pulse to destroy all left behind.
