all for the game is literally the funniest book series ever. 90% of the time the only thought in neil’s head is “oh my god. if my mafia boss father tracks me down and kills me i won’t be able to win The Big Game.”

I don't post much about nonfiction on here, but considering the strike this week I thought I'd share some of the books I've read on Palestine/Gaza in the last couple months. I got these for free from haymarket books & verso books (or my library). I recommend picking up some if not all of these.
The Hundred Years War on Palestine & The Ethnic Cleansing of Palestine go into the last 100 years of Palestine's history and occupation
Ten Myths About Israel gives a bit of an more brief overview centred around Israeli propaganda
A Socialist Revolution and BDS go into history & freedom/rights movements & institutional boycotts, in Palestine and globally
Freedom Is A Constant Struggle connects Palestinian liberation movements with Ferguson and Black liberation in the US
They Called Me A Lioness is about the experiences of Palestinians in the West Bank, and a teen girls' 8 month imprisonment
Light In Gaza is various essays on different elements of oppression, resistance, and life in Gaza
The Palestine Laboratory is about Israel's military tech being developed & tested on Palestinians and how it's used all around the world.
Palestinian Walks: Forays Into a Vanishing Landscape: about how the occupation has changed the land over time and the effects of this

FREE AUDIOBOOK ALERT.
Yep, I absolutely mean it. I've put the audio version of this sweet Regency holiday romance novella - originally published in the Weird and Wonderful romance anthology - up on Youtube for ABSOLUTELY FREE.
Obviously, the catch is that I'm trying to get monetized, but I need 1,000 subscribers and 4,000 hours listened to for that, so please... click that subscribe button and maybe leave it playing in the background? Pretty pretty please? There'll be more free audiobooks coming soon, promise! I know my biggest fan Holly Mop is already enjoying her storytime...

Those of you reading this, no doubt, support the righteous SAG-AFTRA/WGA struggle against their corporate overlords! And no doubt we’re all prepared to sit it out and watch shit we’ve been meaning to get around to! Wooooo! Go labor! Look for the union label!
But the new Murderbot Diaries book is coming out in November, and if the evil corporations don’t get their shit together and start paying people a living wage, then we will all have to read System Collapse with our ORGANIC EYEBALLS* instead of having Kevin R. Free, A Member of SAG-AFTRA, read it to us, as nature clearly intended.
So the corporations need to stop screwing around or I’m gonna hope they meet up with the IRL version of Pin-Lee. For starters.

Books Unbanned
Just learned about this initiative started by the Brooklyn Public Library that provides free non-residential library cards to teens and young adults ages 13-26 in the United States.
It was inspired by the American Library Association's Freedom to Read statement and is geared toward fighting censorship, which is most often targeted within the teen audience at Black and LGBTQIA+ works.
The libraries below have followed the Books Unbanned initiative. Most offer a special library card that allows access each library's respective collection of contested books. As the available books are mainly e-books and audiobooks, the cards are perfect for use with Libby, a free e-book app that connects to your library.
How to Get a Books Unbanned Library Card
Brooklyn Public Library - Email the address provided to begin the application. (Not much info online.)
Seattle Public Library - Fill out the form at the bottom of the page. Allows access to their e-books and audiobooks. Allows 10 loans (21 days) & 5 holds. Card expires after 1 year but can be renewed.
Los Angeles County Library - Only available to residents of California. Fill out the form on the page. Allows access to their Books Unbanned e-book and audiobook collection. Allows 5 loans (21 days). Card expires after 1 year but can be renewed.
San Diego Public Library - Click the button and fill out the form. Allows access to their Books Unbanned e-book and audiobook collection. Allows 3 loans & 3 holds. Card never expires.
Boston Public Library - Click the button and fill out the form. Allows access to their Books Unbanned e-book and audiobook collection. Allows 10 loans (14 days) and 10 holds. Card expires after 1 year but can be renewed.
If you're over 26 and can't participate but support all of this, consider donating these libraries, donating to your local library, requesting frequently-challenged books at your library, etc. Let's all read something we love this year. ❤️

“Haha. ‘Vandalism expresses our corporate loyalty.’ Right. Well, the joke is on you Barish-Estranza employee because not long after you did that, you got killed and/or mind controlled by alien remnant raiders. I know, it’s a logo, but I hate it when humans and augmented humans ruin things for no reason. Maybe because I was a thing before I was a person, and if I’m not careful I could be a thing again.”
-Murderbot, Network Effect (Book 5 of The Murderbot Diaries) by Martha Wells, narrated by Kevin R. Free

I'm starting my four week Emergency Medicine rotation today, and:
my first two shifts are from 4pm to 2am, which doubly sucks because 1) I am a morning person whose brain turns off after 8pm (alien concept, I know, sorry) and also 2) it means I still couldn't sleep past 7:30am so the whole day my brain has been stuck in a permanent state of "waiting"
that said, I traded all my overnight ends-at-6am shifts to my night owl friend's early morning shifts because waking up at 4:30am is preferable for me and I have no other evening shifts after these two, so that'll at least be over with quick
ALL of the shifts are either 10 or 12 hours, it's a 1 hour drive ONE WAY to get to the hospital, plus our school didn't put "feed the students" into the fucking contract so I have to pack a lunch or pay for the caf which, like, I am good at meal prepping, but it's still annoying. also no actual protected lunch break, just eating at the computer real quick. again, twelve hour shifts.
anyway, all of that is to say that everybody please expect a drastic slowdown in my ability to write fic and answer comments because I'm gonna be spending 12-14 hours a day not at home, hahahaaaaaaAAAAAAAAAAAAA qq
But, hey, at least after that it's gonna be much more chill 2 months until graduation! This is literally the only thing I'm doing in the second half of fourth year that requires effort. Love this part of medical school.

Wow, hey did you know the invisible man from H.G. Wells' book of the same name is albino? That's literally the key to him becoming invisible, because the thing that lets you become invisible doesn't affect pigments, but his skin already does not have any pigmentation, so he wouldn't have been able to make himself invisible if he weren't already albino.
