It was kind of dark out; there were storm clouds gathering in the sky, covering the sun. Plus, Luigi was working in the shade, foraging for plants and mushrooms that he could cook into meals for himself and others. As he reached down to grab a mushroom that clung to the base of a tree, he caught something out of the corner of his eye. He turned, thinking he wouldn't see anything, that he'd let himself grow far too tired and was seeing things. Nope! There was a huge eye staring at him from the tall grass.

Luigi yelped and flew backwards onto his butt.

"Who're you?! W-w-what d'you want? Please don't tell me you work for Bowser! Or anyone else that wants to hurt Mushroom Kingdom!"

But what are they?...

Tendrils emerged like snakes from the black and red goop. Five connected by a central hub form a hand. Its reach extends higher and higher into a burning red sky, granting the puddle an arm. Another arm joining in makes it human, but three more make the image monstrous!

Direct confrontation has already been punished. It absorbed a first strike from the belligerent king and clung to him! Dripping gloom consumed Bowser's right arm, devolving it into a dangling black husk of itself. It was as if touching this entity robbed his limb of the will to live! Merely twitching his fingers sends a draining pain through his entire body.

Gloom Hands oozed towards them. Their every movement is unnatural: its fingers bend forward and back, unrestricted by bone. It twitches involuntarily, wrist snapping as it looked every which way. The eye in its palm inevitably centers in on a weakened beast and the little imp saddled between its horns. It will drain the life out of them without remorse...!

"I could take them."

That boast will be put to the test. Bowser clenched his surviving fist, peering from one crazed eye to another. "Then DO IT."

Se vivessi nella mia mente, soprattutto dopo aver visto la mia intervista andata in onda stasera, forse riusciresti a capire un po' di più cosa ha rappresentato per me la nostra piccola (e breve) amicizia, forse platonica, forse immaginaria ma sicuramente per me importante.
