Helloooo, I have a question! But Tumblr won't let me go to the next line so 1 para it is :') One type of short stories are the ones where their ending is just... twisty with the right foreshadowing, ominous vibes, just leave you questioning yourself. How do you come up with that! You're the only short story person I know atm, and I have this wip idea that might work better as a short story, but I have no ending :( Not even a proper plot, just a title :/ Got any tips, friendo?

One of my shameful secrets is that I often finish with a big twist not because it was my genius plan from the start, but because I can't think of any better way to end.

A lot of my ideas are just a worldbuilding premise, or an opening paragraph, and I have to start writing and keeping putting one word after another until I can think of a satisfying place to end... and if I can't, then I think "what would upturn this situation? what would subvert the reader's expectations?" and then I go back and sow any necessary seeds.

Most of my stories don't have an ending until I start to write them, and then the ending comes sooner or later, or I give up and tie a surprising knot in it instead. The impression you may get of a coherent story is just the result of me making it up as I go along, so I wouldn't feel worried that you need to have it all planned in advance: I would suggest writing what you do have, and just seeing where it leads you.

I’m also working on like 2 projects at once atm, one’s Kantibar Keep which is the story the OCs I’m making recently are for, and the other is just design stuff I need to settle on. All in all, good times!!

Joey Drew Studios was having a company party.

Everyone had expected that it would be boring, filled with awkward small-talk and Joey boasting and preening. But it was actually turning out to be rather fun. There was music, good food, alcohol, and Joey was thankfully absent. Quite a lot of employees were dancing together in the middle of the room on what had been deemed the ‘dance floor’.

Henry was off to the side, sticking to the periphery and sipping at his drink. He wasn’t much of a dancer. He’d always been teased about his lack of rhythm and coordination every time he tried and he was in no rush to be mocked once more. No one really noticed this.

Except for Sammy.

Sammy had similarly been sticking to the sidelines, but for a different reason. Sammy was an excellent dancer, as anyone who had seen him dance would tell you, but tonight he had a specific person he wanted to dance with. And that was Henry. He’d been a bit nervous about asking Henry to dance but the alcohol he’d drunk was making him feel much more confident.

He made his way across the party, gently pushing past other employees, to stand before Henry. His heart was pounding in his chest, but he still held his hand out and smiled. The way he blocked the light from the fluorescent lightbulbs made it look like he had a halo.

“Would you like to dance?” He asked.

Henry blinked, then laughed nervously. “Oh, uh, I’m kind of a lousy dancer,” he mumbled, scratching the back of his head.

“Just follow my lead,” Sammy said, taking his hand.

Before Henry could protest further, Sammy was already pulling him out onto the dance floor. Soon enough, the two of them were engaged in an energetic swing dance.

It was a bit awkward at first, neither wanting to look stupid in front of the other, but it didn’t take long for both of them to lose themselves in the music. They loosened up and began to enjoy themselves.

“See? You’re doing fine!” Sammy laughed as he dipped Henry. Henry felt his face beginning to heat up, although he wasn’t sure whether it was from the exertion or from the dip. His and Sammy’s faces were incredibly close. Almost touching.

“Thanks.” Henry laughed as well, unable to stop himself.

Sammy felt his own face begin to heat up as well. Henry had a wonderful laugh and an even better smile. Seeing him so happy gave Sammy butterflies in his stomach. Henry had the sort of face that was well-suited to smiling. His smiles lit up his face and his laughs shook his whole body.

“You’re welcome,” Sammy managed to stammer out, putting Henry on his feet again. He tried to recover as quickly as he could, going right into twirling Henry, which only made Henry laugh even more.

A good portion of the other employees had stopped what they were doing to watch the two of them. They could tell that something special was happening in front of them. Sammy and Henry were no longer aware of anything going on around them. They only had eyes for each other.

“You owe me ten bucks,” Susie whispered, gently nudging Allison. Allison rolled her eyes and sighed dramatically, drawing out ten dollars to hand over. Upon arriving and seeing Henry in the corner and Sammy watching him, the two of them had made a bet about if Sammy would actually get up the courage to ask Henry to dance or not.

“I’m proud of him,” Allison whispered back as Henry clumsily tried to dip Sammy, which ended with both of them holding each other and giggling.

“Me too,” Susie agreed, sipping at her drink. Alcohol really could work wonders.

Our parents were close while they were pregnant with us and we are practically brothers. He’s getting a house near where I live and we will live in the same state for the first time since we were 8 years old. Obviously we will social distance but we still had to celebrate and see each other to mark the occasion.

Absolutely not. Please vote biden if you live in the US. Even if you hate the idea of voting for biden, he’s better than trump. If hillary had won, she would have been putting her third justice on the supreme court. Biden is the only chance for our freedom and for the freedom of many people. I am terrified of 4 more years of trump.

South Florida, where I was born.

The time my high school crush complimented my hair in physics class. I get very few compliments and I never feel that attractive so I hardly focus on my appearance but I had brushed my hair that day and the fact she commented on it made me smile very wide.

-Dazai would be a little more ‘elegant’ about it- he’d write character analyses and little infographics pointing out every little detail of my design and the meaning behind it. 13. What’s the best writing advice you’ve ever come across? A: This is such a tough question! There’s a ton of great writing advice out there, but something that really stuck with me this year was from Kevin Hearne on his Ask the Bards podcast. “Write more, write different, write better.” It really inspired me to take risks with my writing and to see every new story as an opportunity to level up my writing craft. I wrote it on the whiteboard above my desk so I can see it whenever I’m feeling doubtful.

15. If you could choose one of your fics to be filmed, which would you choose? A: Confession time: I am TERRIFIED of my works being turned into films. I know that’s crazy (a. because the possibility of that happening is less than 0% atm, and b. because that’s a butt-ton of money to say no to) but the lack of control is absolutely debilitating to me. BUT if I had to choose, I think I’d pick Sanctified, because it had a fairly straightforward plot and a lot more action sequences than my other stories, so it might get done with at least some respectability. 

31. Do you take liberties with canon or are you very strict about your fic being canon compliant? A: Both? With Santa Sarita the story is set post-MEA so I got to be fairly imaginative with where things were headed. That said, Sara and Reyes’ relationship pre-fic is 100% canon compliant. With my Solavellan fic, Inevitable, I’ve tried very hard to be canon compliant. I find writing within the confines of the established canon to be more fun. It’s a puzzle. How can I add scenes and moments and emotional weight to what we all already know? But once the timeline of the fic surpasses that of the canon, things can get interesting, so long as it makes sense for the characters.
