Happily ever after

What does Idia's hair feel like. Does it feel like fire? How does it not burn anything? I have many questions about Idia's hair, but none of them will ever be answered. How sad.

You met a guy online recently. He calls himself Gloomy Samurai, he's cool and all, but he can be very unintentionally creepy sometimes. But you assumed you were misunderstanding him. After all, it is hard to understand tone over the internet...

But you were wrong about him.

He knew a lot about you. A lot more than you thought he knew. He knew your address, your age, the colour of your hair and eyes, despite you not telling him any of that. Oh, but of course he never let you know he knew that... no, you'd think he was a creep! Your interest in him would drop to zero, he'd get the bad end!

That's why he can't let you know. He'll get your good end for sure. After all, dating is just like a game... and he is very good at games.

Idia couldn't believe what he was reading. You, wanted to meet up with him! In real life! Sure, he's seen pictures of you on your social medias, it's a completely different experience to see you irl!!

Sure, it means he'll have to, you know, go outside, but whatever! We all make sacrifices for love!

He continued making his plans with you, knowing that soon you two would take your relationship to the next level.

You walked into the coffee shop, hoping to get yourself a breakfast wrap and a doughnut.

You sat down at one of the booth seats, with your newly aquired and much-needed breakfast. It was a nice day. Your wrap tasted good. It was raining outside, but not enough to ruin everything.

But then, someone sat down across from you. He had two cups of coffee, he was wearing a hoodie, his eyes were yellow, and his lips a vibrant blue.

"Hi, (Y/N)~!" He said.

"Do I... know you...?" You asked him.

"Heehee! Of course you do, (Y/N)! But I guess I've never shown you myself... whoops." He shrugged. "Ba bababa baaaa~! It's Gloomy Samurai!" He imitated some kind of video game reveal sound.

"Wait, really?!" You asked. "Wow, you're... different than I expected. N-not a bad different, obviously!"

"It's fine, it's fine, but uh... p-people are... staring at us..." He said, nervously looking around. "Oh seven, I-I shouldn't've done that stupid reveal sound...! Why did I think a bunch of normies wouldn't think that was weird? Dammit!"

"Just act natural, things'll be fine." You assured him.

"A-a-alright, i-if you insist..."

"So what's your name?" You aksed.

"Huh-?"

"I mean, I only know your username, and that's a bit strange to say out in public... y'know, just casually referring to you as Gloomy Samurai might raise some eyebrows." You mentioned. "People might think that's a bit... weird."

"Oh, yeah, I guess... uh, my name's... I-Idia." He said, looking away from you. "And I already know your name, since you use it as your username, which you should change by the way. Anyone could find out who you are with that. Rookie mistake."

"Yeah, I've been meaning to change it..."

"So you live here, huh? Maybe you could, uh... s-show me around, or something?" Idia blushed. His hair was mostly hidden in the hoodie he was wearing, but the bits you could see, you noticed the tips turn pink.

"Oh, sure! That sounds fun! A nice walk in the rain together while I show you around my hometown..."

He didn't need you to do that. He's been keeping track of you for a while. He knows everything about your hometown. But of course... he has to pretend that isn't true.

He's always thought your name was so cute. It would go so well with his last name... (Y/N) Shroud... how fitting! How adorable! He's thought of that more than a few times... the two of you getting married, having two children, having a cute little kitten, living a perfect happily ever after... yes, he's thought about it so much.

You had no idea he thought that, however. Idia was good at hiding it.

You had no idea that when Idia's 'vacation' was over, you would be returning home with him.

Idia was delighted. His life turned out exactly as he'd predicted!

The two of you have a five-year-old daughter, and a baby on the way. You also have an adorable little kitten!

Idia entered your room, closing the door behind him.

"I, uh... I-I got you dinner, darling...!"

You were chained to the bed, tears stained your face.

But the strange thing is...

Every passing day, you feel like you're beginning to actually fall in love with Idia.

Shawn Flynn (Analysis)

Let's talk about my favorite JDS weirdo!

We first hear Shawn's voice in Bendy and the Ink Machine, but Joey also mentions him in Illusion of Living in passing.

Joey mentions two things here, firstly that Shawn does "an excellent job." I know Joey lies more than a kid caught with their hand in the cookie jar, but considering the fact that JDS is held together with duct tape and rubber bands, I'm inclined to believe him here. After all, how the hell could they keep up with demands (so much so that the Alice dolls were overstocked) if the foreman fucked off constantly.

Joey also says that Shawn's "creativity knows no bounds." Makes sense for his position, but also helps confirm that Joey does think highly of him in terms of his work. On a personal level, though, maybe not so much.

Based on Joey's insistence for perfection, we can infer that Shawn, like many, was just trying to do his damn job, and Joey blew his lid when things weren't exactly to his liking.

Shawn also mentions that the Alice merchandise wasn't selling well, and offhandedly proposes that they may have to melt the remaining stock down in order to get rid of it. Pretty self-explanatory tape, all things considered.

(The Bendy Wiki also mentions that he has a Dublin accent. I am not at all an expert on ANYTHING Irish but I did find out that Jacksepticeye is from Offaly, Ireland (Midland/East Ireland) and Dublin is also part of East Ireland, so...I'm assuming this is correct.)

There is also an easter egg with the Seeing Tool in BATIM written over Shawn's audio log, though this is mostly a nod to his voice actor.

Anyway, onto Boris and the Dark Survival.

In BATDS, Shawn mentions that he bought a new belt, (a one-of-a-kind toolbelt apparently,) and it was stolen immediately the next day. The perpetrator was a Gent employee, and they very brazenly wore it around right after stealing it. We aren't sure who this employee is, that's mostly speculation. But I don't think that's the point- this odd anecdote represents some of the first seeds of distrust being sown between JDS and Gent employees.

This brings us to Dark Revival.

Funnily enough, I find Shawn's departure from the studio much more interesting than his actual time employed there.

Firstly, Shawn mentions that Joey took it well when he decided to leave. Between the shift towards Gent's experiments and new technology, the funding from Gent, and the sudden irrelevance of having Bendy merch going out in droves, it's possible that Joey just didn't care.

Shawn also seems to give zero fucks about Joey's opinion, based on his Dark Revival and Bendy audio logs, which I find fucking hilarious. Not the first disgruntled employee, but certainly the most confident when faced with Joey himself.

He mentions wanting to find a cabin upstate, see some open sky, and start anew with his family. Overall it seems like leaving JDS gave him a more hopeful lens on life.

But the MOST headscratching thing about his parting audio log is the last few lines;

"But before I go, I've made one last toy. A little parting present for the factory lads. Let's see how long it takes them to find it."

We never hear from Shawn again, so we have NO IDEA WHAT THIS MEANS LMAO. Leave it to Shawn to be mysterious for no apparent reason.

However, there is a possible connection to be made. In the Heavenly Toys area, there's a factory output sheet slapped on one of the walls.

The last column mentions a "Bendy Starface Stuffed Toy", which we've never seen presently. There was only one ever made, and after that it was immediately discontinued.

I don't know why it would be listed at all if Shawn did leave the Starface Bendy as a gift, so this may all be a dead end. (I'm also aware that this might be a "Scarface" reference, although I really don't know what that has to do with anything.) Regardless, I find it a weird coincidence that Shawn left a single toy behind, and Starface also seems to be a completely unique Bendy toy.

TL;DR Shawn Flynn is cool and might have left an Among Us plushie at the studio for his co-workers

Mike is Going to “Die” in S5

In season 5, we’re going to be presented with a scenario in which Mike is going to have a fake death like Hopper did, or everyone is going to believe he’s dead like they did with Will in season 1.

There are two major points to this; Mike’s seasonal death tags and his pattern of predicting future events through DND.

Seasonal Death Tags

I’m only going to cover the most obvious death tags that aren’t really up for interpretation and keep it to the point.

Season 1

Mike jumps off a cliff, prepared to die. He’s almost immediately saved by El.

Season 2

Mike is caught by the vines that almost killed Hopper. He’s saved by Steve, but only after a cut off in which we see El face the mother gate and watch the Mind Flayer turn its attention to her. definitely not a coincidence

Season 3

- Mike talks about sacrificing himself and Lucas to end Will’s campaign. His character is never saved and that’s the end of the campaign.

- Mike, in an attempt to save El, draws Billy’s attention. Billy was going to kill El, and now his intent to kill is turned on Mike. He’s saved by El.

Season 4

- In the opening DND game, Mike’s character is zeroed out. Dead. The game ends with a saving throw from Erica, but Mike’s character doesn’t come back.

- Mike is referred to, directly, as Romeo and marked with Romeo’s last name; Montague.

“Surf’s up, Romeo”

‘Montague’ is written on the oven left of Mike’s head.

Mike’s Predictions Through DND

I can’t use as many images since I’m on mobile, sorry about that.

Mike predicts an occurrence in every season through DND.

Season 1

In the first ever scene of the kids, Mike’s campaign predicts that the Demogorgon will attack Will. As far as we know, that’s what happened because that’s what Will and everyone else believe happened.

Season 2

This prediction is actually made at the end of season 1, but it doesn’t apply till season 2.

When Mike wraps up his campaign, the other party members start questioning him about unfinished plotlines, one of which is about “the cave with the weird flowers in it.” That’s something that appears in season 2; the cave tunnels with weird flowers that spit toxins into the air. It never truly gets explained what those tunnels actually are, either. They’re the only UD related thing that never gets an actual name.

Season 3

When Mike plays in Will’s campaign, he predicts one major event: Hopper’s death.

He describes killing the Juju zombies by lighting the chambers on fire and sacrificing himself to save the Khuisar. According to what everyone else hears, Hopper saved townspeople from the mall fire and died doing so. What we know is that Hopper sacrificed himself to close the gate and save all of Hawkins. Mike’s story intertwines these two versions of Hopper’s death story.

Knowing that, we can assume that whatever Mike does in the opening DND game of season 4 is a prediction for future plot events.

What happens to Mike’s character? He dies. I don’t think this is meant to imply the death of any other character for two reasons; one being the number of death tags he’s received that haven’t led anywhere and the other being the figurines shown to describe Mike’s character’s death.

We’re shown a Paladin on the left, so we know this is directly tied to Mike.

Mike’s character is the one that dies, so that would imply Mike is going to actually die. Or it would, if Eddie didn’t tip over the other figurine.

Eddie knocks over the figure which, dare I say, looks like a ‘dark sorcerer’. Mike’s Paladin doesn’t actually go down, despite his character supposedly dying. Mike, as he’s represented on the board, doesn’t die. It’s only believed by everyone else that he does.

Another thing is that we aren’t shown what Mike actually rolled. This is a direct contrast to the other dice roll scenes we get from Dustin and Erica.

Dustin’s roll, 11, predicted that El wouldn’t be enough to beat Vecna. Erica’s roll, 20, beats Vecna. What that number means will most likely be shown in season 5 when Vecna finally goes down.

If these rolls are prediction shots, then why aren’t we allowed to see what number Mike rolled?

Vecna ‘Killing’ Mike

I think the most obvious answer as to who will be the one ‘killing’ Mike is gonna be Vecna. I have a whole post about that here.

With all the evidence in that post about why Mike is an ideal target for Vecna, I also wanted to add here that Mike must have rolled a low number in order to get his character killed. The Duffers never use plot irrelevant numbers, so the only low number they could use that they would want to keep secret from the viewer is One.

Mike is so fucking dead.

About some characters’ possible incarnations in previous samsaras

So Teyvat is trapped in a cycle, is constantly going through samsaras, and reincarnation really is all but confirmed now apparently.

A lot of people jumped to point at Childe and Parsifal, then speculate which other historical figures could also be his previous incarnations.

Childe's case is really, really interesting, but I wanted to bring up another character that also seems to be pulled into this samsara vortex somehow - Itto.

(This is gonna be long and have A LOT of reaches and speculations.)

Let’s look at Akuou (Touzannou) from Watatsumi Island. We don't have confirmation on which species he actually belonged to, but from what information we have on him, he would most likely be either a vishap hybrid, or an oni. He was described as “the wicked fangs and claws of the Great Serpent, the savage, demonic invader of Yashiori Island”. “‘Fangs and claws of the Serpent” makes it sound like he was a vishap, but I think him being called “demonic” is a more important characterisation here. The name ‘Akuou’ also may be a reference to the legends of Akuro'ou - “an ancient demonic warrior in the Japanese folklore who fought against the imperial court”, so again, demonic, an oni. And, well, oni also have claws and fangs, but I did have to mention that this guy could be a lizard person instead.

If we assume that Touzannou was an oni, we can start to notice a lot of coincidences pile up. First, Touzannou’s personality seems to resemble Itto’s - he was reckless, boastful, presumptuous, but very kind. Not the brightest mind, as it’s said that “his strength was his only strength". He came up with his own fighting styles that are still passed down on Watatsumi. Itto’s fighting style is his own as well:

Touzannou fought the Tengu Sasayuri and was called Akuou - “Wicked King”; Kokomi’s Everlasting Moonglows story mentions it like that:

Itto’s Redhorn tells a story about an “Otogi King”, who was boisterous and boastful too. And that’s where it gets weird, please walk with me. One of Itto’s passive talents is getting more wood, and if we look at how the trees are distributed on the map, the VAST majority of the Otogi trees are found on Yashiori Island.

As already mentioned, Yashiori was invaded by Orobashi and his people 2000 years ago, and ultimately became the resting place for Akuou (Touzannou) and shrine maiden Mouun, a very important figure I’ll talk about later. 99% of Itto’s story quest also happens to take place on Yashiori.

A cornplate detail, but Itto was also at Nazuchi Beach (Yashiori Island sub-area) in his dedicated album posted on genshin’s youtube channel. The ost playing on Nazuchi Beach is called Stranded Wish, which is quite an interesting name choice for a place that suffered so much tragedy and war.

(This is also actually a Watatsumi ship, as mentioned by an npc we can talk to there)

Speaking of Watatsumi, Itto’s most obvious connection to it is through Gorou, as he is his dedicated support. The less obvious connection is his similarities with Akuou, and some things involving Kokomi. Sure, his quest is only accessible after you complete Kokomi’s, and their signature artifacts in the same domain, but her involvement seems to run a bit deeper than that.

You see, the whole thing that started it all is Akuou being mentioned in Kokomi’s donut. At first I thought it’s actually the same guy from the Redhorn, because their description was so similar, basically just ‘evil king that fights a tengu’. But it was exactly this description that made me notice some interesting pattern of interconnected characters.

2000 years ago: Akuou the Evil King, Mouun the shrine maiden and Tengu Sasayuri.

500 year ago: Tengu Reizenbou, Asase Hibiki and Ako Domeki.

Present day: Arataki Itto, Kokomi, and Kujou Sara.

Take a look at depictions of Asase Hibiki (left) and Mouun (right) from the TCG cards:

Their haircuts seem to be identical, with the hair color being the only difference. Better yet, it's also similar to Kokomi's haircut.

The oni from their respective time periods (or samsaras) are named Akuou, Ako and Arataki. Inconsequential, but interesting.

Let’s take a look at Ako Domeki, and speculate a little (or a lot). Both Akuou and Itto had conflicts with a tengu, but Ako seemingly didn’t. But, since he’s 500 years back on the timeline, it puts him on the same time period as Tengu Reizenbou and the ‘otogi king’ from Itto’s redhorn. There is a slight chance that this ‘otogi king’ was actually Ako Domeki post Serai and Golden Apple, but there’s nothing really to prove or disprove this, apart from the fact that they both have similarities with Akuou and Itto.

Another thing that could possibly have something to do with Ako Domeki are those weird oni symbols scattered around Watatsumi. These symbols are connected to Rinzou's Treasure world quest - you look for pirate treasure, and find Rinzou’s letter where he talks about his life.

This “outlander king” inspired Rinzou to leave Watatsumi when he grew up. And, it’s interesting that he chose an oni mask as his insignia when he left Watatsumi. If this old man was the reason for him to go into the world to seek adventure at sea and become a pirate, it would make sense for his insignia to be inspired by this old man. Which would make him an oni.

Could this be Ako Domeki, an oni pirate, that inspired another person to become a pirate? It’s far-fetched, but again, as we don’t have any confirmation for the end of Ako Domeki story, it could have really been him.

Getting back to Akuou and Mouun. Mouun’s name has a very interesting possible origin:

Kokomi’s ‘slumbering dragon’ constellation comes to mind here.

Mouun was friends with a great 900 year old whale called Daikengyou.

They both were slain during the Yashiori Island invasion. But, the fact that this whale managed to live for so long almost definitely means that it was no ordinary whale - perhaps it was the same creature as the All Devouring Narwhal.

Meanwhile Kokomi had a whale in her demo, which should definetly raise some red flags.

Akuou was taught different rituals by Mouun and her sister Ayame, including an art of whalesong. Interestingly enough, Itto is a very good singer apparently:

So, in light of recent developments with whales in the main story, I don’t really think that this art of ‘whalesong’ was something connected to ordinary marine life, it’s too specific now. Given that Orobashi was actively opposing Heavenly Principles, I won’t put it past him and his followers to be involved with the likes of Surtalogi that keeps celestial whales as pets.

Last thing, the books about Akuou and Mouun, as well as about other Watatsumi dealings (Debates on the "Viceroy of the East", A Preliminary Study of Sangonomiya Folk Belief, The Life of Mouun the Shrine Maiden, and more) are not in the book archive, but in the quest items. Must be important.

So, let’s round things up. Akuou, Ako Domeki, Arataki Itto, all with similar sounding names, are boisterous, kind oni, that all have mentions of being called ‘kings’ (Itto’s ult is called ‘raging oni king state’), all have some ties to Yashiori Island (Ako Domeki is mentioned on a note on Nazuchi Beach, and if the Otogi King and him really were the same person, there’s Yashiori having the most otogi trees in Inazuma), all being exceptional fighters, all having ties to a notable tengu and a shrine maiden, that also have connections to characters taking on the same role from a different time periods.

Ako Domeki is up in the air, but Akuou and Itto really do seem to be connected somehow.

On the Acceptance of Unsteady Ground

Throughout this whole dive into turtle world, I've been very conscious of just how LITTLE access to information I have. I'm relying so heavily on English translations and platforms, and most of these are from turtles, so I'm fully aware I'm getting a biased perspective.

I've tried to read stuff from solos or even just neutral third-parties. The neutral parties don't have much depth of information, though, and I found solos heavy on accusations and declarations but light on actual...evidence. And they sometimes use some really nasty rhetoric against the idea that gg and dd might be gay.

Don't get me wrong, turtles get weird too. There's plenty of clearly false rumors, deceptively edited videos, silly stretches of logic, weird ideas of what how people in a relationship would act, etc. But there's at least enough English-speaking turtles that I can find some who are giving open and, as far as I can tell, accurate information (honestly, I find tumblr turtledom better at that then other platforms). I haven't really found a similar pocket of solo fans.

I'm also aware that there's always going to be a limit on how much I can know. I don't speak the language, so I'm always relying on translators. I have limited access to Weibo (even putting aside the language barrier, I'm in text confirmation limbo in actually getting an account), and I have little familiarity with the culture. I don't get a lot of the jokes or references, and stuff may strike me, an English-speaking American, differently than it would someone in China.

Add on top of that the fact that I'm trying to find out purposely obscured information about two celebrities, and, yeah, I'm fully aware that I'm on unsteady ground here. I can do my best, but I'm never going to know anything for certain.

But I've become okay with that.

It took a while. The dissatisfaction with the unknown (and unknowable) is what drove a lot of my early fixation and subsequent fall into the turtle pit. But now, especially after laying out my thoughts, I've reached a zen place with it. I'm 100% certain ggdd were together during filming/promo, and I'm 95% certain they're still together (I had this at 85% originally, but then the whole dd being sick and gg changing his schedule thing happened and I'm just...welp, guess I'm in this confidence interval, then).

Just having that certainty means I can enjoy updates from them without anguishing about "proof" or uncertainty. Oh, gg took the day off on dd's birthday? That's really sweet! I'm not gonna fuss about if it's coincidence ENOUGH to convince me, because I'm already convinced. It's a good place to be.

I typically don't care about celebrities. In fact, I've long been bewildered by celebrity culture here in the US, and I've often been actively annoyed when people assume/expect me to have opinions on things celebrities do. I'm the nerd who doesn't get why the actors get all the attention when the writer or director would be much more interesting.

So the fact that I've gone all fangirlish over two celebrities is bizarre to me, and I appreciate the irony. Well done, me. I attribute some of it to just being able to watch the bts and see their early interactions play out like a story. I find stories compelling, and both gg and dd are charismatic, attractive and have great chemistry. Whatever disdain I have for celebs, I do love a romance.

In my foray into the ggdd world, though, I've also had to learn more about c-ent, and y'all. It's nuts. Like, US entertainment is nuts too, but c-ent ratchets it up to 11. I've been in fandom a long time, and I thought I'd seen some weird stuff, but it's got nothing on c-ent. Just wrapping my head around the culture these guys are in took a lot of learning.

But I appreciate being able to dive into this culture and this country, because I knew very little about China beyond the antagonistic politics. It's been refreshing to get a view on life on the ground in China to humanize the folks there and get a clearer picture of the country.

I started this thing bc I had been spending so much time on Youtube watching clips, and I had thoughts and opinions and nowhere to put them. I already had a tumblr that I use to lurk on some fandoms and I had started following turtles too. I figured tumblr would be a decent place to splurge out my thoughts, so I set up a throwaway account to do so.

I get the vibe that a lot of new turtles come to bjyx through the same route I took? They watch The Untamed on Netflix. They get curious about the show and start watching some clips on YT. Next thing you know, they have 3 playlists full of purported "proof of love" and they need a whiteboard to connect everything together and their wife thinks they've gone completely bonkers supports them in all their oddities.

Like, I was really confused by turtles at first. I was just trying to watch bts videos on YouTube and I didn't know what bjyx meant, but the videos with the label were weird and had strange disclaimers that they were "only for turtles" and I had no clue what that even meant.

My confusion continued as I tried to read more. The fake story disclaimer convention is hella confusing as an outsider, and my first impression was that turtles were kinda crazy. The videos I saw gave overviews of candies without context, and some of them explicitly said they were proof of Yizhan love while still having that fake story disclaimer. Basically, it was a big confusing environment, and it's why I resisted buying into bjyx so hard for so long. It all seemed delulu.

But in reading more, I guess part of that is the point? Recognizing that gg and dd are in a vulnerable position should their relationship ever come out, having so much noise to muddy the waters makes a twisted, clownish sense. I don't know who came up with that convention or if it just kinda happened (is it a normal thing in c-ent? I don't know enough about celebrity fandoms), but hats off, I guess.

With the supertopic recently hitting 4 million active fans, there's something heartening about such a depth of support for the guys. I'm not naive enough to think all 4 million (plus international fans) are allies to LGBT folk in general, but it surely means something to ggdd to have that sort of support for their relationship. Honestly, it means something to me, as a random gay chick on the other side of the world, to see a gay couple get that kinda of support behind them.

I started watching the bts because I was afraid there'd be a lot of cynical homophobia on the set or some evidence of all the male cast being icked out by the whole thing. Instead, I got gg, who was so passionate about WWX being gay. I love that everybody knew they were telling a love story with as explicitly as they could get away with. I love that the guys wanted more Wangxian scenes and that the cast and crew made "everyday is everyday" jokes in a non-mocking way. I'm glad that the whole shoot seemed like such a positive environment for the cast and crew to being themselves and tell a type of story that they may not be able to be involved with ever again.

So, yes, this is my zen turtle place. When I set up a soapbox for myself, I didn't think too much about the fact that people would respond, but I'm so grateful to have had a chance to talk to some other turtles! Everybody is lovely and thank you for sharing my enthusiasm.

Like I said in the beginning, I don't have the time to keep super-active in the long-term. I had intended to write up my thoughts and poof away. But I do also plan to keep up with gg and dd and turtles, so instead I'm just gonna leave off with the potential for further posts down the line.

I'm not gonna be incredibly active, so please don't expect frequent updates or interactions from me. But if I have more Yizhan thoughts I'll pop up again with a post (I mean, I do have lots more thoughts, but nothing energizing enough to write about), or I'll leave a comment somewhere if I have something I simply must say. I'm also open to responding to asks about the timeline or anything else. And if I ever do stumble across anything groundbreaking with regards to the timeline, I'll probably add that in, because I'm particular about things being complete.

So thanks for being so welcoming! It's been a joy to clown around and make up completely fictional stories with everybody here. 🤡🐢🙇🏼

I recently found your blog while working on some things for a Heisenberg fic, and I love it! It made me think more about this HC that I have about Urias and Heisenberg. Since you have a lot of posts that talk about the game files and things like that, I wanted to ask your informed opinion on this if that's alright?

My HC is that Urias is actually Heisenberg's father--not just due to the fact that the concept art and character models look too similar to be a coincidence (in my opinion; I'd also like to add that I've never found anything that confirms or denies (or even refrences) this anywhere online, so if I'm missing something, feel free to let me know!).

I always imagined Heisenberg being close to his father, who likely was the one to teach him everything he knows in terms of engineering (I almost wonder if his name could be Karl Heisenberg Jr., his father being closer in reference to the physicist he's based on than Heisenberg himself. I hope that made sense-).

I imagine Miranda took his father first, whose experimentation results were close to what she was looking for, but no cigar (pun intended), so her next best bet was to hop down the family tree to his son--which yielded much more promising results--giving us the Heisenberg we know and love.

This would definitely explain why Heisenberg is much closer to the lycans than any other character, and why he's able to wrangle them so easily, because he's related to one--even if the consciousness of that relationship is long gone.

I'm so sorry if I came off as weird or anything, your blog just really kind of livened-up my HC and my fic ideas in general, and honestly makes me feelnreally confident about it and wanted to know your thoughts. Thank you! :)

Honestly, my initial kneejerk reaction to this one was “Jeebus, doesn’t the guy have enough dads already?” But on a second thought, heck, maybe there’s actually something to this idea…

The info we get on the possible Heisenberg family from the notes from the concept art is all over the place, and concepts for Heisenberg’s father are the worst offenders. Sturm was supposed to be his real father, Heisenberg’s monster form was supposed to be his father’s, the village leader was supposed to be his father... I assume these were different ideas from different phases (or one was a step-dad?) but sheesh, how many dads does one guy need?

Meanwhile, the one thing we do learn about Urias (apart from the fact he seems to part of some extended Urias family) is that he was supposed to be the village’s leader at some point… but that’s where this whole thing might just get interesting. Because if Heisenberg’s father was meant to be the village leader, and Urias was also supposed to be the village leader… could there have been a point in development where both were true at once, and Heisenberg’s father was going to be Urias? (I mean, as well as the village leader, presumably.)

I mean, they’re both beard-y, grey-haired dudes with a love for giant hammers and long coats. It’s not for nothing that so many fans came out of the early previews for this game assuming Urias was just Heisenberg in lycan form. Those concept pics of Heisenberg's father in a trenchcoat with a shock of grey hair aren't a million miles from Urias' design either.

There's some plausibility to the idea of Miranda experimenting on members of the same family too, especially if they've got cause to claim descent from one of the four founders. I speculated as much myself about what might have happened to the rest of the Beneviento family in my post on her background. Heisenberg specifically strikes me as more the sort of guy who probably wasn't born in the village, given he names his monsters in German, mocks the very idea of his lordship (more on that here), and is clearly the least brainwashed member of the family. But that's interpretation ‒ there's nothing truly definitive either way.

You'd have a harder time squaring 'an engineer who taught Karl all he knew' with Urias' role as the village leader, though ‒ I have trouble picturing anywhere as superstitious, isolated and backward as the village being led by someone with that much 'outsider' knowledge to pass onto his son. RE has certainly tried to sell us on wilder things, but it doesn't really click for me.

As for Heisenberg's affinity for lycans, that's more debatable. He certainly seems to be commanding them at the start of the game (just to really cement all those lycan!Heisenberg theories!) but past that point, any lycan associations dry up very quickly. There are no lycans to be found anywhere in the factory ‒ just soldats, and moroi wearing mind-control visors (called ‘haulers’, but they’re obviously just new versions of the creatures you meet in Donna’s domain). Why bother putting visors on skinny zombie creatures if he could command lycans without them? Doesn’t really seem like Heisenberg’s ability to control lycans goes far beyond ‘stop’ and ‘go’.

True, Heisenberg does leave his Rose-flask in a stronghold full of lycans. But he also sends Ethan to that stronghold, where he has to fight and kill Urias himself. The idea that Heisenberg was ever close to his lycan-dad is going to be hard to square with how casually he sends someone to kill Urias, or how pleased he seems that Ethan succeeded. In Heisenberg’s mind, lycans are nothing so much as they’re expendable – Urias included.

So as far as the finished game goes, I think it’s probably reaching to suggest that Urias (of the extended Urias clan) is related to Heisenberg, who so casually throws him in Ethan’s way as a test. But the possibility that maybe Urias was going to be a Heisenberg at some point in development is a better explanation for the fact the Urias-clan are so big into hammers and trenchcoats than any other explanation I’ve heard yet. It’s certainly no crazier than so many other headcanons I’ve heard around this game.

But speaking of the Urias-clan, let's cover the other Uriasi you can find around the game. Urias Strajer (the bigger version of Urias with the mace that Chris fights near the megamycete) is supposedly Urias' older brother ‒ something the concept art wants you to know so badly it's mentioned on pictures of both of them. So if you still want one of them to be Heisenberg's father, the other is presumably his uncle. Heck, maybe Strajer could be Heisenberg's father, and Urias could be the uncle he never liked very much (despite his excellent taste in hammers), if you want to explain Heisenberg's lacking reaction to Urias' death. Some of the game files for Strajer are labeled 'village elder', which also points some kind of connection. Chock up some more evidence of Miranda experimenting on members of the same family too!

The two axe-wielding optional bosses you can fight in the sawmill and over Claudia's grave are apparently Uriases too ‒ Urias Drac, specifically, though you'd only know that from RE.net, where you can see stats for how many of them you've killed in Mercenaries mode. Personally, I only realised they were supposed to be lycans at all because you can one-shot them with the magnum if you unlock the 'special customisation' that 'does extra damage against lycans' ("extra" apparently means "10x" in special-customisation land). But presumably they're based on the same unused design from the concept art of this one 'lycan' out walking his varcolacs too.

Are these Uriasi too part of the greater Urias-family? Who knows ‒ that one's up to you. Their bodies, with that swollen weak point on the back, do match the model for Urias Strajer (shown below). In fact, I'm pretty sure all the Uriases use the same base model, just with different clothes, armour and hair. So there's some shared DNA in there somewhere (even if only in the sense that recycling a good model saves so many hours of development time).

The name 'Urias' is apparently a term for giant in Romanian, which checks out. Strajer, meanwhile, apparently translates as 'guardian' or 'sentinel', which tracks with the fact Strajer's job is to guard the megamycete. 'Drac', meanwhile, seems to be the same word you might know from Dracul (dragon or devil) or Dracula (son of the above) ‒ though I am also amused that google translate tried to tell me 'urias drac' means 'huge fuck'. 'Giant demon' may be more on the money for that one. Either way, all this etymology does strongly suggest that 'Urias' is more a description than an actual family name. Which is somewhat reassuring, because nothing I've read about Romania suggests they put surnames first.

Probably just to annoy me, personally (because I absolutely will overthink this shit now you've got me started), one of the models used for regular-vanilla-Urias is randomly called 'Gregorio', a name that shows up nowhere else in the game. There is a Grigori ‒ he's that old guy who gave Ethan his first handgun before the lycans dragged him away.

I really do not think we're supposed to take it that Urias is a lycanised Grigori, though ‒ that's rather too big a transformation in not nearly enough time. Otherwise, 'Gregorio' is neither Romanian or German (like both 'Karl' and 'Heisenberg' are) ‒ it's Italian or Spanish, which is just confusing. One of the four founders (more on them here) did have a vaguely similar name ‒ Guglielmo ‒ but I don't think that's really close enough to mean much either. 'Gregorio' could be the name of a developer who worked on the file once, for all I know.

So where does that leave us? Honestly, nowhere very exciting. None of the evidence of this greater Urias family was actually in the playable game (notes on concept art and names you have to find on an unrelated website are very tenuous canon at best). Still, Urias and Urias Strajer are similar enough that it's reasonable to assume they must have some sort of relationship. So take all this as you will (or not at all).

Can I just say the writers did something so interesting in making Maura's favourite book Anne of Green Gables? And especially in bringing it up in this episode (5x12, yes I'm watching this show very fast; sue me, it's the weekend). The undercurrent it gives knowing that story while watching this one blows my mind.

So in this episode, Maura has to connect with her own childhood to access a connection with Jack's daughter and it so clearly digs up some things for her. She wants to impress her.

If you can't tell by my spelling alone, I'm a Canadian. And I studied English in university, so of course I've looked at this book in academic context before. Anne of Green Gables is something that gets analyzed as queer, as neurodivergent, and as trauma narrative. And oh my gosh is that interesting in the context of a character like Maura.

Maura who, like Anne, has a lonely childhood where she feels unwanted. Anne whose upbringing as an orphan is really tough with early guardians who only see her value in what she does for others and not who she is herself. Anne who combats that loneliness and darkness in part by trying to be unique, who loves flowers and beautiful things and wants nothing more than a specific cut of dress she's never had before and to be liked and wanted. Anne who creates this rich inner world and daydreams all the time to avoid the realities of her life (anyone remember Maura's wedding fantasies?). Anne who gets mocked and teased at school, but also has an imaginative side that draws in a whole host of friends too. I can see Maura wanting that part, seeing a beacon of hope in her because she's different but she's loved.

And, oh, could I go on. Anne whose trauma and neurodivergent traits have her constantly assuming her new guardians don't want her every time she makes a mistake or makes a mess of things, who constantly sees herself as bad, who can so easily see herself as trouble, as someone who only gets to ruin things and doesn't get to have things (some possible rejection sensitive dysphoria in that). Uh, big Maura vibes. I talk just a little about Maura being similar in this post here, but I could go on with that too.

Maura is still insecure. She still immediately assumes people won't like her, that Jack's daughter won't like her. That nobody wants her for real or for very long or when she can't give them something. She talks about being a weird kid in this episode. She tells Allie this:

I've seen literary analysis suggesting Anne might have possible ADHD, possible autism or cptsd. Maura, are you sitting over there and relating? Anne socializes differently. Anne gets caught up in all sorts of trouble because she thinks and acts differently, interacting with the world in a way unlike she's always expected to by others. Anne goes on long winded asides, giving stories to nature and ordinary things to the annoyance and/or affection of the people around her. She's constantly seeking out "kindred spirits" who get her even though she's different... like Maura does, like Maura probably wanted very much when she was young and reading this. Like Maura probably still does as she goes on her 'joy of science' asides.

And, Anne's often read as queer due to her almost overly dedicated friendship with Diana. For instance, Anne goes into this melodramatic tirade when Diana's parents don't want them spending time together after an accident with alcohol, with an over-the-top apology and very very mushy goodbye. They refer to each other as "bosom friends" and hold their friendship above all their others in a way that often reads queer. Now come on, this is Rizzoli and Isles, Jane and Maura. If you don't want me to read Maura as queer, Anne of Green Gables is the worst story to say is her favourite. And the worst story to bring up in this episode.

This is such an interesting choice for the storytelling to take. I just can't let it go as coincidence. I just take it as confirmation that Maura saw herself in all these aspects of Anne's character. Which, all in all, makes the end of this episode even more cutting. This is Maura watching her bosom friend, her kindred spirit, her Diana jump off a bridge and leave her alone.

And oh my god is that compelling.

Fionna and Cake predictions!! !SPOILERS!

(these are heavily based on parts 1 & 2 of my analysis, and reference them frequently so they might not make sense without reading it) (they also may contradict eachother as i have multiple different ideas for what may happen)

Just realised i accidently became the very thing i hated, and called something an ‘analysis’ while most of it is just going over the plot, please take this as a token of apology

1. The vampire universe.

Based on the images we get and the order they come in for the trailer, my guess is that when Simon and the gang arrive in vamp world they get jumped by a group of vampires. Based on the fact we seem to see them in a different place later without any convinient new travel companions it’s likely they make it out without help.

I have 2 ideas for the canon that we see pointed at Simon Fionna and Cake (SFC since i’m too lazy to keep typing all that)

- The canon is manned by a vampire and shoots out either more vamps or maybe even marceline herself. The image we see of her zooming through the air she’s in a very ‘aerodynamic’ pose, with her arms right to her sides and knees entirely unbent, the same pose one would be in if they’d just been shot out of a canon, while the other vampires are very spread out, looking more like cats when they lunge at their prey. This would also explain Simons shock and concern compared to F&C’s more tame ‘oh there’s a canon now’ type look. It would be pretty shocking to see basically your daughter about to be shot out of a canon, directly towards you.

- The canon actually shoots out the garlic bombs we see go off later. This theory also means i’ts likely manned by (probably) Huntress wizard we see later (presumably) shooting at either SFC or the vampires. I think she likely does this because she’s never seen these people before and assumes their either vampires, or just some other threat. This still explains simons shock (sort of) as it’s not everyday you see a garlic bomb canon, and he’s smart enough to realise that probably means their mistaken for a vamp, while fionna and cake have never seen a garlic bomb before and would just be confused.

If if is marcilene coming out of there, that probably won’t go over well when she realises that it’s simon she’s being shot at. We don’t see her simon in the trailer or intro yet, but based on the fact that she’s likely evil here, it’s safe to assume he’s no longer around to teach her proper morals and such. Whether he died, left her, or something else happened, we don’t know yet. But based on which of these 3 happened she’ll have a very different reaction to see simon now. It’s also possible that the crown just made him crazy way earlier, meaning he didn’t have as much time to like, ensure she doesn’t go evil by teacher her stuff like ‘vandalism is bad’ n stuff. If that is true, i think her hearing that there’s a simon out there who isn’t corrupted by the crown but is activly trying to be would royally piss her off.

We only really get shots of (probably) the middle/start of the episode, so there isn’t many clues to the ending but i have a few ideas. (Hopefully) seeing marcy again and likely getting reminded of how the crown hurt her before, would at the very least begin planting the seeds of doubt in Simon’s mind about the crown and if he won’t give it up for himself, he’ll consider giving it up to avoid hurting his friends n family back in ooo. Overall i’m super excited for that episode and the more in-depth look into simon and marcy’s relationship it’ll hopefully give.

2. Weird desert world thing!

Starting off we know this is set post-vampire world because the entire time Fionna is wearing this new green jacket (that honestly reminds me of Magic-woman-betty’s jacket but could just be a coincidence) that she doesn’t have in vamp world.

We get quite a few less shots of this episode sadly, so there’s less to work with, but i do have some thoughts,

Every single image we have in this desert place only has either Fionna, Cake, or BMO. Absolutely no Simon. leading me to believe somethings happened either to him or all 3 of them causing them to be seperated. What? I’m not sure, it’s possible he was captured by the scarab which would by an interesting route to go and (if people are correct about her being scarab’s boss) coukd even lead into Golbetty apearing, or there could just be a mix up and someone in the workd kidnapped him or smth. Either way it looks like he’s MIA for now.

BMO seems to be super importsnt this episode, getting a sort of dramatic-ish reveal but more importantly she has Ice kings secret tapes, and seems to be playing them for F&C. F&C seeing the tapes would no doubt change their perception of both Simon and Ice king, hopefuloy having them realise just how horrible possesing the crown was, but also seeing how Ice king wasn’t actually a fun guy who wrote silly little books but someone who was incredibly sad and lonely. This new perception of the two would hopefully lead them into no longer wanting ice king to put on the crown, and instead trying to find a different way to save their world.

It could also show to fionna that magic and adventures aren’t as fun as they first seem, and maybe push her into accepting her ‘mundane’ and ‘boring’ world as a place she actually does love and enjoy and is okay living in.

3. Simon & Betty (flashback)

we only get 4 images of this and they paint a relatively small picture about what actually happens but they paint one nonetheless

Based of these 4 images, it looks as though Simon and Betty are on a date of sorts. Simon also runs to Betty before she catches the bus to the airport for her trip. The date could happen before or after she doesn’t board the bus, but i think it’s after, not only because it’s a dark photo but i just don’t see how it would fit (narrativly) if it happened first. Basically it seem to be a flashback to the day simon and betty first met, fairly simple.

While i can’t come up with any more then that for the flashback, i do think it’s either something we see right before golbetty, or even during golbetty. possibly like a ‘remeber when we first met, and blah blah blah’ type thing to try and get betty to remember being betty (if she doesn’t in her golb form)

That’s all i can think of, i would add a golb section because of all the forshadowing we get but the foreshadowing isn’t enough to tell me what actually happens with golb so i left that out.

I’ll either look really smart or really stupid once fhe next episodes come out and i can’t wait to find out which

Apparently Nolan north voiced both Desmond AND Abbas, so- Des gets time traveled back to Altairs time, but this time the assassins can’t figure out if he’s related to Altair (looks) or Abbas (voice) or both somehow. (Bonus points: Des somehow IS related distantly to Abbas)

I will never get over Nolan North voicing Abbas. Although to be fair, he only voiced AC1 Abbas who had, like, one scene if I remember correctly? Anyway, if anyone’s curious how Nolan North sounds like as Abbas, here’s the post where I added a videoclip of him annoying Altaïr.

For this one, let’s shake things up a bit. Desmond gets kicked into the past after Al Mualim had been defeated but Altaïr is off doing his own thing in Cyprus which Desmond forgot because… uuuhhh… he didn’t really pay that much attention to that part of Altaïr’s life? He knew it happened, it just… um… Desmond’s memories of Cyprus from Altaïr were pretty vague. (as a reference to how Bloodlines is important to Altaïr’s story but isn’t that wildly popular or played)

So Desmond didn’t know Altaïr wouldn’t be in Masyaf. He just saw the date “October 1191” and assumed that Altaïr would be in Masyaf as the mentor so he went there.

Only to be instantly mistaken as Altaïr until they realized his skin color is a bit lighter (the hood he wore made that a bit hard to see immediately). Then they heard him speak and they have to stare at Desmond for a moment because…

Desmond is speaking to them the way Altaïr usually spoke which meant…

Desmond didn’t just sound like Abbas.

Desmond sounded like Abbas speaking like Altaïr.

And that’s both weird and funny to many of the Assassins because everyone knows about Abbas and Altaïr’s ‘strained’ relationship.

Abbas absolutely hates it.

Desmond hates it as well because of all the people he could sound like, he had to sound like freaking Abbas, fucking hell.

Malik becomes the unfortunate soul who has to listen to all of these because he is the Keeper and it’s his job to keep the Brotherhood working while Altaïr goes swanning off in Cyprus (which Malik had been adamantly against because Altaïr was the freaking mentor and the Brotherhood was still reeling from Al Mualim’s betrayal and death!) but he has an Assassin go to Cyprus to find Altaïr and tell him about the appearance of a man that looks too eerily like him to be a coincidence. Malik does not tell the Assassin that Desmond admitted to being Altaïr’s descendant, kicked into this time period by one of these ‘Isu devices’ of which he says the Apple is part of.

Words of Cyprus being liberated from the Templars reach Masyaf but Desmond only smiles mirthlessly as he tells Malik in confidence that Altaïr wouldn’t return.

… only for Altaïr to return a few days later.

Alone.

Unorganized Notes:

Abbas is definitely freaked out by the fact that Desmond has the same voice as him. Then he usually gets angry because Desmond likes to irritate him.

Desmond’s plan is to irritate Abbas so much by trying to keep telling him that Altaïr isn’t a bad person and that this entire ‘feud’ will only destroy them both.

Does he think Abbas and Altaïr would ever reconcile? Hell no. Desmond still feels the grief and rage Altaïr felt the day he learned of Sef’s death. The despair that followed him after Maria and Malik’s death. Altaïr might have forgiven Abbas but Desmond would never will.

His plan is to actually make Abbas snap and try to hurt him while there are witnesses all around. Abbas’ standing in the Brotherhood is already rickety at best since he took the Apple and tried to use it. It was only by Altaïr’s mercy that he hasn’t been executed.

Desmond knew that he needs to capitalize in that because the older Abbas gets, the more Assassins will be initiated that had no memory of that event and will be more receptive to Abbas’ poisoned words.

Malik knows all of this. Desmond has been so forthcoming with everything to him alone that, if it was all a lie, Desmond has the worst lying scheme of all. They’re all too detailed and too strange to be complete bullshit at this point and Malik knows that, at the very least, Desmond believes the ‘lies’ he speaks of.

Things get even weirder when Altaïr returns (without Maria! Desmond is freaking out. Why isn’t he traveling with Maria? Did he completely fuck up that he won’t be born anymore? Will he disappear in the middle of something? Fuck, fuck, fuck)

And then Altaïr gives Desmond his own WTF.

He knows who Desmond is. He’s been dreaming of him since he used the Apple in Cyprus.

And Desmond is like… what? What? No, really. (stares at the Apple) WHAT?

While this is all happening, all the other Assassins in Masyaf were still getting used to hearing Abbas argue with himself because… well… Desmond and Abbas arguing about Altaïr was now one of the most regular source of entertainment for the bored Assassins. Desmond’s defense of Altaïr has made them feel like he might be connected to Altaïr BUT it might not be familial at all. Which meant he was most probably related to Abbas and not Altaïr in a familial way and Abbas is offended and Desmond is like… “no, god no”.

Then an Assassin who was born and raised in Egypt before coming to Masyaf talked to Desmond about how there’s this belief that a person has a spirit double of some sort in the form of a ‘ka’. There’s a bit of miscommunication there and Desmond thought that the Assassin was talking about a ‘soulmate’ scenario and the Assassin latched on to it because that is soooo much more accurate in his eyes.

Desmond did not know that the Assassin was talking about him being the ‘ka’ of Altaïr.

So… by the time Altaïr returned to Masyaf, seemingly knowing Desmond and looking relieved and surprised to see him in Masyaf, everyone’s just going “CALLED IT!” on what kind of relationship they had, not knowing that Altaïr’s reaction is because his last dream of Desmond is about his death.

In this case, I don’t know who would suffer more… Abbas who has to hear the other Assassins talk about how his ‘family’ definitely has some kind of intimate relationship with Altaïr or Malik who knows the truth about everything but can’t tell anyone and has it worse this time around because Altaïr’s actions are NOT HELPING the rumor mills at all!

holy shit the hazbin hotel show. wow. incredible. very neat that they went for an almost-musical style because they had so much lore

anyways. here's all my thoughts on it, pretty much. enjoy! :]

No. 3 - Top 19 jetBlue Tail Designs

(number 10 will surprise you!)

How exciting - my first request! (Well, actually, I had a different request all written up and ready to post, but this one got bumped to the front of the line...for reasons. Keep reading to find out what reasons those are!)

The format of this post will be a bit different. There will of course be an overall grade for the general livery, coming in a subsequent post for an extra exciting multi-part review, but what the asker is referring to are jetBlue’s various jellybean tail designs, so I’ll be weighing in briefly on each one. No grades this time, just my top 19 jetBlue tail designs.

Readers from the US are probably pretty familiar with jetBlue, but I imagine a lot of people overseas aren't as much. While they do fly to some parts of Latin America and even have two destinations in Europe, they're primarily a domestic low-cost airline based in New York and Boston. One of their more noteworthy feature, aside from the fact that they name their airplanes silly things, is that instead of having one identical livery for all their planes they use several different designs for the tails, meaning that their fleet is not entirely uniform or even close to it. (Think of it like a handful of differently flavored jellybeans.)

All of the following quotes are taken directly from the jetBlue website. Images are from visitingphx.com, and the following users of planespotters.net: Carlos A. Nieves (balloons), OMGcat (highrise, hops; spotlight), Marco Dotti (tartan), KirkXWB (streamers), Chris Pitchacaren (ribbons), and Wade DeNero (dots). The reason I use photographs when jetBlue have a page with images of all the currently-in-use tails is that a lot of them look significantly different in natural lighting vs how they are on the website.

These rankings are...in all honesty largely fairly arbitrary without a huge gap between first and last place. I'll probably completely disagree with this ranking by tomorrow, and in fact returning to the start to proofread after finishing my first draft of this post I do already disagree with my own rankings, but I need to commit to something to make the post and rearranging them would take time and effort, and I have the rest of this jetBlue extravaganza to type out, so here goes. A list of my top 19 jetBlue liveries, ranked from the one I typed out first to the one I typed out last.

Sorry, anon.

1. Windowpane (retired)

It's very straightforward and clean. It has both the dark blue of the rest of the livery and a lighter contrasting shade. It's fairly self-contained. I think it's good to look at. No complaints.

2. Harlequin (retired)

See above, but it has the distinct flavor of a couch cushion. This is about to become a theme. I kind of wish they'd started with the dark blue at the bottom instead of the light blue, since it contrasts more with the white fuselage and sort of makes the whole design feel more cohesive.

3. Spotlight

Wouldn't you know it, she's a birthday girl! This "fierce" design was originally rolled out during 2019 Pride month - by complete coincidence, I would assume. I guess it would be weird for their brand, maybe, but if they have a yellow plane I don't see why committing to a rainbow plane was that far of a leap.

Despite that, I actually really like this design. The tiny bits of orange don't really overtake the rest of it, and the lighter, brighter blue really pops. It feels bubbly. It feels bubblier than the design called 'bubbles'.

I do feel the need to point out that the description on jetBlue's website seems to just cut off abruptly.

"bold splashes of color continue to steal the spotlight on our ne"

Your ne? Your ne is what? Please, how am I supposed to properly assess this design if I don't know what this livery is stealing the spotlight on? I'll rank it really high just in case I'm missing something crucial.

4. Plaid (retired)

I'm honestly just a big fan of plaid generally. This has a nice three-dimensional feeling to it. The main reason I ranked it so high is that I got the mental image of airlines knitting little jackets to put on their planes' fins so they don't get cold in the winter and can't stand how adorable that is.

5. Ribbons

The ribbons tail is used on A321neos with Mint, so the fanciest planes the airline has. I like this design. The blue shades feel like they fuse into something nice and eye-catching. It feels weird that they cut off abruptly, but I still like this tail design a lot.

That said, jetBlue's website has goofed again:

Ribbon has colorful tied up with (count ‘em!) THREE hues of blues.

Has colorful...what tied up? Or is colorful the thing being tied up?

jetBlue. jetBlue, the company jetBlue. I am talking to you. I know you're reading this. jetBlue, this is just sad. I feel legitimate pity for you. Can I please proofread your website? Please? You don't even have to pay me in money. I'll do it for TrueBlue points. I'll even do it for a couple scale models. Please don't let yourself live like this, jetBlue. You can do better. You literally have so much money. You can pay like dozens of people with fancy degrees way more than the retail price of a few small model planes to proofread your website but I am one individual with a tumblr blog and this is like seeing a wounded animal thrashing around on the ground. I'm being condescending but I'm also completely serious.

Now, if the next time I go on your website I see that you've changed it without contacting me I'll assume you're ripping me off and I won't do anything about it but honestly, jetBlue, I'll be hurt. So think about your actions.

(Jokes aside, though, two typos on one page of a major airline's website is two more than there should be. Also, if anyone is reading this after they've fixed it, here's an archive to prove it happened. That said, this was posted in July and I'm editing this in on the second of September - bad look!)

(Also, three hues of blue is a weird thing to tout as a benefit considering a lot of the other tails have three or even four different shades of blue.)

Anyway, the ribbon tail is pretty nice. I like it.

6. Mosaic

This design looks really washed out on their website for some reason but in person it's pretty nice. I'm not sure if this is a legitimate thing other people observe or just a me thing, but it sort of reminds me of how panels on airplanes overlap each other a lot with a bunch of adjacent square edges. But it also just looks nice. This is also one of the older ones but I feel like I wouldn't have guessed that if asked. Nice and simple in concept but not boring in execution.

7. Hops

This is a bit embarrassing, but until I actually looked up all the tail patterns I never connected the 'hops' name with an image. I just saw it written in passing and thought 'huh, like, the plant? That's a bit of a weird name but alright'. Even when I saw it I immediately was put in mind of a field of wheat, which is not the intended effect.

(It also looks like waves.)

It is, in fact, hops as in several consecutive short jumps, and is the standard tail on their A220 fleet. I do like it a lot regardless of if it's several short jumps or a wheat field or the ocean. It has some nice forward motion and the colors are nicely staggered and create some interesting depth. My one issue is that, like with the ribbons tail, this feels like it really needs to be released from the confines of the tailfin.

I know they're phasing out their E190 fleet, but there are definitely hops tails on E190s as well as A220s. The one I use as an example, for instance, is E190 N323JB "Only Blue".

8. Balloons

A 20-year anniversary livery. Ribbons might be higher on this list but balloons kind of fundamentally shreds it by having an entire five shades of blue.

This looks more like scales than balloons to me, but I still enjoy it. I feel like the variety of shades here actually makes it feel lighter because the very darkest shade is present for less of it, but a nice vivid blue is always good in this case. I'm also fairly sure this is the most recent regular tail variant, and it fits right in with the rest.

The reason I rate it so high is that it's a very overtly fun concept, and the website claims that the five shades are meant to stand for jetBlue's five core values - Safety, Caring, Integrity, Passion and Fun. And you know what, sure. Balloons are definitely fun. That's a nice theming choice. I like it.

9. Tartan

It's very funny that the description on the website says that they're 'mad for plaid' even though they retired the plaid livery. Still, this looks nice. I think it ended up here for personal reasons, those being that I'd die for a jacket or something made from a fabric with this print. Green and midnight blue are one of my favorite color combos for some reason. I'm a sucker for it. Like I said, these rankings are largely just based on mood and my opinion of the tails doesn't significantly vary, so I can do what I want. I can say that this is my ninth favorite jetBlue tail livery because I want to wear a jacket made of it. I think it would also be very cute if they made, as described earlier in the section on the plaid livery, a little cap for the plane out of said fabric, and gave the jacket to the pilots so that they could match. I think that would be really good.

10. 100 (special)

Obviously, this was going to end up at tenth. It was never not going to be at tenth, even if I hated it beyond words.

I actually do like this tail too, though. It follows the general jetBlue trend of kind of looking like fabric but it also sort of looks like a plastic bag like you'd get from a corner store. I feel like the fact that I think this is probably down to some sort of repressed memory of a specific corner store I've been to.

Bag or fabric qualities aside (you know what, I think this design would look good on a pillowcase) I do think that it's almost sort of subdued due to the smallness of the shapes and the large amount of dark colors and it sort of obscures the fact that this is a special livery to celebrate a milestone, but it is. (I'm including it here because the only change is to the tail, plus a bit of writing under the logo - not exactly a new design for the plane as a whole.)

This livery is actually to celebrate jetBlue's 100th A320, N655JB. It was a little bit startling realizing that this plane was acquired all the way back in 2007. I mean, they have a big fleet, but not big enough that that isn't shocking. She wore this (and the 'Our 100th A320' sticker) until 2013 and currently has the highrise tail, but is still named "Blue 100".

I wonder if they're going to do something similar for their 100th A220, given that if nothing changes about their order they'll end up with exactly 100 of them. I hope they do.

11. Highrise

The main thing I really like about highrise is the way that the green catches the light. At different angles it can look almost like it's shining and it stands out very nicely against the blues in the background. I know it's not part of their fundamental brand, so to speak, but I do find the combination of blues and green jetBlue uses sometimes quite striking, and the highrise design shows that off extremely well.

I actually think, in terms of representing jetBlue's history, this livery does the best job. It's meant to represent the high-rise buildings typical of New York. It's a nice touch. Again, though, stop holding back her power! Set her free from the confines of the fin!

12. Streamers

"as in Jetstream and as in let’s jet the party started", according to the website. This livery is for their A321LRs, which fly transatlantic flights. It's fine. It's nice. I can't say 'streamers' is what came to mind immediately - it was more like 'oh, nice abstract blue pattern' - but it's definitely not bad.

13. Prism

Very similar to highrise, with the colors and all, but I find that it shines less from the same angles. Also, a bit less thematically potent. Still nice. I'm running out of ways to say "still nice". Sometimes nineteen is a lot more than you expect it to be.

14. Dots (retired)

Cute, sweet, simple...much like windowpane, but I prefer graph paper with actual squares versus the dotted version and have ranked them accordingly.

15. Bubbles (retired)

This looks like it has that sort of three-dimensional plastic bottom-of-a-rug texture. I don't hate that, but boy does it make it hard to try and read the text!

This is officially the point where my opinions actually have somewhat started to drop off and we're getting to ones I'm less jazzed about, but it's still entirely fine. I don't mind it.

16. Blueberries

The idea behind blueberries is really cute, but the bit of empty white space irrationally bothers me.

17. Stripes (retired)

I owned a sweater with this exact pattern when I was in middle school and I wore it until there were too many holes to justify it anymore because it was very soft and comfortable. Much like my sweater, this livery is retired now. That's good, because you don't want holes in your vertical stabilizer. That would absolutely not be comfortable, and I doubt the landing would be soft.

Seriously, jetBlue cannot stop making tails that look like they're little hats somebody knitted for the airplanes.

18. Barcode

I don't know. The orange just...doesn't work for me when there's this much of it. Sorry. Still not like, awful or anything though.

19. jetBlue Vacations (special)

Not enough blue. Too many colors that aren't blue. You had one job.

Okay. That was all nineteen of jetBlue's tails. That said, having given my verdicts on all of these designs, I do feel like I'm at the end of a life-changing journey and have just realized that what I was searching for the whole time was just a hollow mirage. Why must we judge? Is it not enough to share in the joy of many variously-tailed airplanes mingling together under a shared ICAO designator?

When I see these flocks of bluebirds grazing on the tarmac together, embracing each other not just despite but because of their differences...all of them are beautiful in their own ways, and all of them lift each other up instead of putting each other down. They rise together, separated by at least 1,000 feet vertically and three miles laterally, and we should all be inspired by that, not try to tear them down.

Well, I think I've learned a very valuable lesson today. And that lesson is that I'm not going to be able to go over all the jetBlue tail variants and the general livery in the same post, or that post will be very very long. So, why the expedited pace for this request? There's no space left in this post, but I'm not going to take a jetBlue Vacation just yet. You'll have to read about it in part two of my jetBlue special...which is approximately 1,000 feet vertically and three miles laterally away.

There’re seriously people claiming that Wish isn’t a movie made to establish a DCU, and whether it’s intentional or not, I wanna know how Wish of all movies connects to Pocahontas (at least the fucked up Disney version)

Asha’s song “This Wish” upsets me because for some reason i thought the line “throw caution to all warning signs” really should’ve been “caution to the wind.”

It may have been just my mind reaching, but during the scene where all the forest animals are singing to Asha, someone mentions "all the flowers in the wind". Right after this, the wind blows a bunch of leaves and butterflies behind Asha in a gust of magenta, blue, and yellow, which really felt like a visual homage to "Colours of the Wind". There were so many references to other Disney movies that it had me paranoid, though, so I'm kinda hoping this is just a coincidence. (I'd have to redownload the camrip to check...I deleted it after watching, just in case my ISP decided to "reach out to" me like they did with Hotel Transylvania 4)

As well, if Disney and its stans didn't want people to assume a DCU was coming, they probably shouldn't have crammed so many references into Wish. The movie barely has its own identity beyond being a vehicle for merchandise and references to other movies.

I mean, hell, leading up to the release of Wish, they started cramming it into their other IPs. Asha appears at the very end of Once Upon a Studio, and they're putting Star on one of four Disney Movie Insiders centennial ornaments:

It feels weird. Disney's trying to elevate a very mid movie by giving it some sort of relevance in a greater timeline, but Wish's songs feel written by AI and its characters are half-baked, and I don't doubt that most kids who see it are going to forget about it within a few months.

i didn’t want to keep reblogging that ch.1 game over post over and over so here are some more comments from other users that i thought were really cool and wanted to share/expand on

Gaster knowing personally of Chara when they died is something i hadn't really considered in any depth and it's SO interesting and i can't stop thinking about it now

my current (admittedly convoluted) line of thinking is that G originated in the Deltarune universe, and his strong desire to un-doom its timeline is motivated in part because it's his home and he feels a sense of duty (maybe because of past actions) to the people in it -- especially the kids, maybe kris in particular (again, for any number of possible Reasons). i think Egg as a symbol of young, vulnerable life being given out to teenagers represents a gesture of nurturing (even if a very weird/unsettling one from the recipient's POV lol), and when we consider the repeated references to eggs not hatching...

so from there, if we hold that G hopped over to UT at some point (maybe with the "followers"? maybe to flee the Roaring?), and was royal scientist when chara was still alive... holy shit dude.

given just the sheer similarities between kris & chara (and especially if we believe kris & chara to be instances of the same character "model"), the idea that he was able to see kris alive "again" in some form before having to experience their terrible death and the fall of "darkness" a second time... i could see that driving him to a point where he might just feel like he has nothing left to lose, you know?

idk there’s so much i’d like to say but i feel like i’m veering a little too far into speculative fanfic territory whenever i start getting into it. but imo the G/chara parallels definitely seem to be there thematically and i think there’s potential for narrative significance to it as well (is G maybe taking extra interest in Kris in Deltarune the game in part due to what he saw happen to chara in undertale, and/or his particular sympathy for chara because of how his own well-meaning past choices led to harm like theirs did, and/or how his own inaction/indecision in the Undertale universe factored into them making their big mistakes in the first place? is anything about that ethically fraught from kris deltarune’s POV???)

one of the things i find so interesting is that he doesn't just say they're wonderful — those statements are among the very few times he ever breaks from his "script." they’re among the only moments of spontaneity we see from him in the whole introduction sequence.

if you pick someone else’s name, even "sans" or "papyrus" or "asgore" or "gerson," he just says HM WHAT A COWINKYDINK. and if you give one of the kids’ names to the vessel alone, he responds similarly neutrally, as if he knows that because you’re giving that name to the "character," you already have some amount of meta knowledge and therefore have already "met" them as a character. he even said on twitter that he knew we were looking for him — he knows we’ve played undertale, and that might be why he’s seeking us out in the first place.

possible masking for personal reasons aside, if we consider that we’re participants in a "survey" or test case, that kind of neutrality is both polite & professional and necessary. whatever biases he personally has, he needs to minimize his betrayal of them, because that could influence the behavior he seems to be attempting to study. and if he’s aware of our (from his POV) tremendous metaphysical power and knowledge, then i think he might be just as skeptical of us as we are of him.

and yet, if you give yourself one of the main lightner kids’ names, he seemingly assumes it really is a coincidence and he just completely breaks. he is so excited for you to meet Kris, Noelle, and Susie for what he thinks is the first time that he can’t stop himself from telling us how very, very wonderful he thinks they are. it’s like he pauses from taking a note, looks up from his clipboard, and says, "NOELLE, YOU SAY. I HAPPEN TO KNOW OF A NOELLE MYSELF." he doesn’t just like these kids, he likes them so much that despite his best efforts he just can’t hide it.

the only other seemingly spontaneous moments occur when we give ourselves his name (discussed below) or when we give the vessel and creator identical names ("OF COURSE OF COURSE. OF COURSE THEY ARE THE SAME.").

YES the name thing is something i’ve been thinking about a lot too.

to explain that more for anyone who’s unfamiliar: in the intro/"GONERMAKER," G ends the survey session as soon as the last letter of his name ("GASTER") is typed. he doesn’t wait for you to submit it, and he doesn’t ask you to change it to something else, he fully just takes the player out of the session. as soon as he sees his full name, he removes you (and, it’s worth noting, himself) from the situation.

this could be taken many ways, but i definitely think "startled" is accurate regardless of anything else. beyond that, it could be skepticism wrt your meta knowledge of him, as discussed before, but we’ve also established that he knows we likely know who he is. he knows we were looking for him. i also don’t think such spontaneity and haste would be expected to follow from skepticism, frustration, or fatigue alone.

PERSONALLY i believe that confronting his own name brings up deep discomfort for him (for, again, whatever Reasons). just seeing it causes him to panic. it causes him to break beyond affection for certain kids and even grief/disappointment after a game over. whatever it stirs in him makes him feel so exposed that he can’t even allow us to be present for it. note that while he doesn’t return us to menu/title after dying, he does that exact thing in response to seeing his name.

maybe interesting to note, "WINGDINGS" and the like don’t cause any particular reaction. it’s just "GASTER" that sets him off.

the survey sequence in general is very very interesting. why does G even give us a character creator in the first place? i know everyone’s already talked about "choices don’t matter" with the discarding from a thematic perspective but could there be narrative/characterization potentials as well? if G’s trying to help the player, his collaborator & participant, feel comfortable, what does the offer of a customized "vessel" say about what he values, what makes him feel comfortable or uneasy?

Hey, glad to see you back. I absolutely loved your essay about Hermia, I also had always assumed that she had a weird placement within the Capp family. It's a shame, that they changed her, cause I loved her as Regan's daughter... (Also that Avril-esque outfit in her wardrobe kinda mirrors the Regan's one in color pattern. (I assume it's Hermia's since it suits her style better than Juliette's.)) So, what do you think about Miranda as in-game character? It seems like that she was intended to be a child/toddler, who's even younger than Hal and Desdemona, before they removed Tybalt as Goneril's eldest and placed her in that position instead. To me it felt like that in-game Miranda that we know was made of scraps of what Hermia supposed to be at first, down to her crush to Mercutio. Since Regan and Cornwall are not Hermia's parents anymore, she doesn't have to be a rebel then, so Miranda overtook that role instead. Also, thank you for your VV essays, this hood definetly deserves a better treatment! :))

Hi! It's good to be back! I'm glad you liked the essay, it's one I've been working and sitting on for years, but I only just found the right words to finish it.

Also, I added a read more to my response because this got long.

Tbh, I didn't really think much of Hermia's placement until I came across Cornwall's French biography in 2018. Until then, I thought her place as Juliette's sister was so she could better serve as a parallel to the nurse from Romeo & Juliet. Much like the nurse, Hermia is implied to be Juliette's confidante when it comes to the latter's relationship with Romeo. This is most obviously seen in the neighborhood album, where Juliette is gossiping about Romeo with Hermia, especially since Juliette's interaction is paused during the shushing animation. Beyond that, Juliette and Hermia are also best friends, which also mirrors just how close Juliet was to her nurse.

Once I was made aware of the leftovers, I realized that we could have had another Shakespeare reference, but alas. It definitely would have been fun to have Hermia as Regan's daughter, but I'm also fine with what we got. That said, it's mostly because it allows for a copious amount of headcanons that I can implement in my own narrative. I've already covered some of them in my playthroughs, but it has since gone much deeper than that.

I had completely forgotten about the Avril cosplay in Hermia's wardrobe, mostly because I've been using default replacements for years. If it's the outfit and recolor I think it is, I definitely see the connection.

As for Miranda, I can't say for sure whether she was intended to be younger than Hal and Desdemona. It's definitely possible, given Albany's memories, but both Consort (the first sim created for the neighborhood) and Goneril remember her being older than the two. As for the Tybalt initially being Goneril and Albany's eldest child, it's another possibility, but it makes me wonder about how Consort's memories list Miranda as being born first. If that was indeed the case during development, then it stands to reason that Tybalt's age bar might have altered following his relocation in the family tree.

When it comes to Miranda's crush on Mercutio, I don't think it was left over from Hermia's earlier role. Miranda having a crush on Mercutio largely echoes the Shakespeare iteration's romance arc in The Tempest. In that play, Miranda's love interest, Ferdinand, is the son of a man who assisted in usurping her father's throne. While not an exact match, I find that this parallels quite nicely with her crush on a member of the Monty family; furthermore, it allows the devs to somewhat replicate the AMSND love quadrangle in their game.

It's possible that the Miranda we know was made from scraps of who Hermia was meant to be. That said, I find that her final version lines up too well with Shakespeare for it to be mere coincidence. Much like Hermia in AMSND, Miranda's romance arc is not without pushback from her father, the only difference being that she doesn't know that Prospero doesn't actually oppose the match. Not to mention, her liking Mercutio, who likes Hermia, lines up very well with the aforementioned love quadrangle.

Thank you so much for the ask! I definitely agree that Veronaville deserves more love, but then again, I'm also someone whose interests line up very well with the neighborhood. XD
