Couple of Q's on FnF. What do the sex workers on Silco's network think of him? What do ordinary people think of him?
tw: sex work, violence
In FnF, the sex workers on Silco's payroll say a prayer each time they're summoned. Not because of anything he'll do physically, but because he handles business through them, and uses them as proxies for spygames, assassinations, info trading etc. They're on the edge each visit, because they'll have no choice but to accept whatever's on his agenda.
One does not simply refuse the Eye of Zaun.
Beyond that, physically, they would happily do without having sex with him. In FnF, he's got a taste for bloodplay, and an unpredictable nature. Neither of these are pleasant to deal with. Also, er... well-hung clients might be up one's alley for a fun one-night stand, but by and large, most sex workers prefer an underendowed john because there's less wear and tear on their own bodies, and less 'prepping' before the deed.
Beyond that, any pleasure they experience is in knowing he's satisfied and not about to go ripping their throats out.
Plus, have you met his kid? Grade A psycho and might blow you up.
They like that he's generous with tips, though. And if you're talented and business-savvy, he will go out of his way to cultivate your skills. Play things right, and he'll even score you nice digs, jewels and other assets.
As for ordinary Fissurefolk - in FnF, I've got a few scenes which make clear most don't even know what he looks like. For the working classes, he's a mix between a shadowy bogeyman and Pablo Escobar. They see him as a nearly mythologized figure who sticks it to the man (ironic because his Shimmer empire hurts them more than anyone else).
He does, as the story goes on, contribute a lot to infrastructure, hospitals, schools etc - but that's less philanthropy than wanting to stabilize the city (and also, he does feel the Fissurefolk deserve better than what they were given, having lived through the same deprivations himself.)
The educated middle class dislikes him, because he sows disorder and runs his empire through violence. Upper-classes are fond, not of him, but the money and opportunity he lures in through his schemes. For them, it's about jockeying to stay on his good side rather than considering the ramifications of his actions on the city itself.
All in all, he's a deeply polarizing figure.
Also, Jinx is far more popular than him - and more widely known and adored, even beyond Zaun (except Piltover where they hate her guts but are quietly fascinated too). A fact that he makes maximum use of as the story goes on...

Can’t join us on Thursday? No problem! A recording will be up on our YouTube channel, @NoirCity, on Friday, April 7: https://www.youtube.com/user/NoirCitySF
Note: Eddie will not be able to answer questions posted during the livestream nor ones left on our social media accounts
This week’s questions:
1.       I’d enjoy hearing from both of you about LGBTQ+ characters in Noir.
Marjorie (from the poor part of Connecticut)
2.       Are there any Film Noir Foundation restorations in the Flicker Alley pipeline this year?
Michael, Post Falls, Idaho
3.       Have you ever considered The Orpheum Theater in Phoenix, Arizona for a NOIR CITY showing? Also, are there any great film noirs from the golden age that are not readily available?
Vince from Arizona
4.       In a recent ASK EDDIE, you said that "The 13th Letter” is unavailable for showings because of rights issues, Are there any other noirs that similarly cannot be shown because of rights issues?
Bill Miller, Chicago
5.       Who do you consider the best cinematographer of the classic film era?
Harry, West Chester, PA
6.       I recently engaged in a debate with someone about the concept of film. I wanted to get your perspective. The other person posits that the femme fatale trope was a sexist derivative of men's postwar angst of women taking their jobs and workplace. I argued that men and women in noir are oftentimes equally culpable, equally shrewd and equally guilty in their indiscretions. What are your thoughts on these arguments?
Andrew, Clayton, North Carolina
7.       TCM showed “Not As A Stranger” and I thoroughly enjoyed it. IMDB says that movie is a Film Noir.  I can’t see it. What do you think?
Stephen, Allen, Texas
8.       I recently saw the Italian neorealist film “Bitter Rice”, which has many film noir characteristics. Can you recommend other neorealist films that might also be regarded as film noir?
Ron
9.       It's hard to think of a movie more detested, shunned and now ignored than "Executive Action," a 1973 political drama, directed by David Miller and written by Dalton Trumbo, that blames the assassination of President John F. Kennedy on a right-wing capitalist conspiracy. I'd welcome any comments you have about "Executive Action."
Paul from "Fargo" land
10.   I recently watched “Journey into Light” (1951) starring Sterling Hayden and found it surprisingly emotionally moving.  Are there any film noir movies that you find especially moving? Also, do you consider this movie a "religious noir"?
Dan
11.   One great American crime writer you've never mentioned is John D. Macdonald, the creator of Travis McGee. Macdonald considered Victor Nunez's 1984 adaptation of his novel “A Flash of Green” to be the best film version of his work. What do the two of you think of Macdonald's work? And have either of you ever seen “A Flash of Green”?
Doug, Silver Spring, MD
12.   One of the many pleasures of viewing classic films noir is spotting the various ways in which the filmmakers circumvent the Hays Code and express graphic violence, et cetera, despite the limitations forced upon them, with clever filmmaking techniques. Can you think of any other good examples of this sort of Hays Code circumvention, in which a film is able to express graphic content without explicitly showing it?
Sam from Iowa
13.   Where is it that you tape introductions for NOIR ALLEY?  Are you given a blooper reel each year?  Have you ever finished it in one single take.  Do you have a favorite hotel you stay at when in L.A. or do you not stay at same place each visit?
Alan, San Anselmo, CA.
14.   I came across an excellent book called “San Francisco Noir” which shows real locations from SF movies and proves interesting anecdotes about the locations and the films themselves. At the end of the book is a description of the Danger and Despair Knitting Circle, which sounds like an elite private showing of various noirs.  Does this still exist, and do you have stories about this group?
Phil from Boston
15.   My question addresses some fantasy casting as well as historic casting.  Who would both of you cast as Noir Brothers and Noir Sisters. What would be the best combustible pairs?
William from Lafayette

OC doodle drop bc Tumblr knows next to nothing about them, as opposed to, say, Instagram -
put it under a "keep reading" tab because it is in fact a long post, sorry!! T-T there's a lot I want to get to.
Mild blood warning & mentions of killer gas!!
Edit: I missed a few tags so added those.
These were made using Google Keep Notes, where the colors are pre-selected and I had to substitute one color in place for another, so bear with me ;-;
Tumblr media
(dark gray = black. The plug is silver)
This is FNF!Sprite, one of my oldest AU versions of Sprite, my sona. I don't really do much with them lmao they just sorta exist. The only other characters I have in this AU are FNF!Solar and Wysp, who are Sprite's best friends who teach them how to rap battle and have fun while doing so.
Sprite is nonbinary and uses they/them pronouns. Solar and Wysp are both male and use he/they pronouns.
(yeah I'm a fan of the classic mods, Remorse is easily my favorite song.)
Tumblr media
(dark gray = black. ear armor & fingers on right paw are silver)
This is Sprite from Lunatics AU, where they have the (not optional) ability to transform into a feral monster whenever the moon rises. It's kind of like being a werewolf, except there are no full-moon gimmicks or anything like that.
One story eventually sprouted into two separate stories that were sequential??? So I'm trying to structure the story so that we learn about both stories at once if you were to put it down on paper. If I ever put it down on paper. Let's see where it goes!
That's where the cool armor on Sprite's right half comes from. This drawing was concept- and lore-based and I kinda just did it on a whim. It's a combination of their old outfit, the cool robot armor, and a more battle-scarred version of their old outfit. They do have a prosthetic right arm though!
Fun fact: Lunatics AU was inspired by Metroid Dread. I know, crazy. But the armor says it all XD I should post more drawings of them in full armor.
Sprite is nonbinary and uses they/them pronouns.
Tumblr media
This isn't Sprite this time, surprise surprise. It's Solar, who's Sprite's best friend/buddy in Lunatics and FNF. In Demon AU, depicted here, he's the protagonist of the story.
Why's it called Demon AU then? Well, said college sophomore decided it would be a great idea to summon a demon with orange acrylic paint, supermarket birthday candles, and a dead mouse he found in his dorm the other day. I think you know who the summoned demon is.
Solar is male and uses he/him pronouns. Sprite is nonbinary and uses they/it pronouns.
Tumblr media
(gray = black)
BLIZZARD WHY IS THE OUTSIDER'S MARK ON HIS SHIRT?? That's because my Assassin AU was inspired by Dishonored! Might as well stick a reference to one of my favorite video games of all time on one of my favorite OCs I've ever created!
Assassin!Sprite or AS!Sprite here is a little bit like Corvo Attano in that she is also a skillful assassin with supernatural powers. The powers themselves are different and the world is a whole lot different, but yeah it sorta tracks!
One running gag I've been playing with is that Sprite doesn't understand what "casual wear" is. Since he's out on the field all the time and was raised to be on the field all the time, he's pretty much used to wearing heavy cloaks and assassin gear, even while resting or asleep. Hence, an outfit you will never see again because this is just a one time thing lmao
This is probably my most developed Sprite AU though. I have a lot more details worked out about the characters here than anywhere else and I'm so very proud of it.
Sprite is female and uses he/her pronouns. The eyelashes only indicate gender. :)
Tumblr media
(imagine all the blue-green parts are glowing)
Last one is Death Mist AU! Recently renamed due to technicalities. Also death mist sounds a lot cooler, lmaoo
In this AU, which I've recently begun fleshing out a little bit more, a poisonous gas descends upon a random patch of land - could be the middle of nowhere, or a settlement, or a fortified city - and anyone in that area who's not protected can be considered dead. Except for Sprite, who is immune. I'm still ironing out the details but that's sort of the basic gist of it.
Sprite is nonbinary and uses they/them pronouns.
Okay I'll stop rambling and leave y'all alone for now T-T I've talked long enough already. Sorry!!

intro to muses
Tumblr media
legit all of them are alternate versions of the same person, so they have similar tendencies, but slight personality variations
BF: Chaotic good idiot that likes to rap and vibe in general
Jam: same as BF but more closed off and bitter due to the effects of corruption and well- ✨trauma✨. trying to find a way to cure himself and other AUs.
Raspberry: Same as BF but times that by one thousand and add hyperness, pretty chill tho considering.
Glitch: just chaotic and will do anything to not only paint graffiti on everything but also rap battle as much as possible, although none of the 3 can infect people Glitch will not hesitate to still bite you

I know I wanted to stop doing this but this actually kinda ticked me off so
Rant
I just saw someone who claimed to be a "fan" of pico's school yet found it offensive and said Cassandra is a terrible person and you shouldn't like her
Tell me you aren't a real newgrounds fan without telling me you aren't a real newgrounds fan.
I get it, making a stupid ass game about a school sh--ting is offensive. THAT'S THE POINT. IT'S SATIRE. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying you HAVE to like it. Humor is subjective, but you can't be a fan of it if you find the very GAME you're a fan of OFFENSIVE?? Nene is a racist stereotype, (Hell they even made her YELLOW.) and nobody seems to complain about that.
The game is a joke. Everything about it ISN'T meant to be taken seriously. Nothing in it is serious, nothing about it is serious, it wasn't made for serious purposes and it sparked NEWGROUNDS of all things.
I'm not saying you HAVE to like it, again humor is subjective and I can TOTALLY understand why someone wouldn't find a joke about a real school sh--ting funny.
but you can't just be a fan of the game and complain how the ENTIRE POINT OF THE GAME IS BEING OFFENSIVE.
THAT'S. THE. WHOLE. POINT.
and with people hating Cassandra?? I never understood why. She's a bad guy oh no!!!! Darnell burned down an entire city, Pico's a trigger happy lunatic especially in FNF where he's literally an assassin, Nene has her whole knife obsession and likes killing people, and the rest of the goth punks are also school sh--ters.
You can't hate Cassandra but praise Pico or Darnell because they're all horrible people, and again THAT'S THE P.O.I.N.T. They're SUPPOSED to be comedically bad people. Even if you DON'T count Pico being an assassin as canon due to it being in fnf (despite fnf being somewhat canonized) there's STILL Darnell plays with fire. He burns down an entire city, but oh no Cassandra killed people so she's a monster aparently waaaaa
like bruhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
TLDR; Pico's school fans stop complaining about the game being offensive, and stop hating Cassandra and people who like her.
