I absolutely agree with the value of Beauty and the Beast and ranking it as the objectively best Disney movie, but I would like to challenge you on it nonetheless. Specifically on the argument I've seen levied against it the most, or at least most ferociously: It's 'problematic!'

Whether people reduce it to Stockholm syndrome, Lima syndrome, both or even neither, I know many people who don't like B&tB because the circumstances that brought Belle and the Beast together are quite loaded. Everyone in the castle, Beast included, is aware that this girl is likely their one shot at breaking this curse, so there's always a kind of external pressure on their relationship, even if it isn't always seen.

What's your take on that argument and/or similar ones that dismiss or dislike the love story because both parties were literally trapped in one form or another?

No, it's not problematic. The basis of that argument is that love is somehow negated by circumstance. But love is not at all about circumstance. Love is about choice, because it's a action—regardless of circumstance. If your circumstance keeps you from choosing, or forces your choice, it's not choice at all., and so it's not love.

Belle doesn't choose to love the Beast until after she gets to know him and he sets her free from her circumstance of staying with him. He doesn't set her free from her circumstance until he's decided he loves her in spite of his own—if he were letting his circumstance (the curse) dictate his love for her, he wouldn't have let her go.

It's a silly argument.

She was his—WILLING—prisoner. Willing. Which is no prisoner at all. She was not held there by his force or his decree; she held herself there by her promise, because she was taking the place of her father, who trespassed and offended a Master on his own land. She chose to be there; she didn't choose to love him based on any kind of proximity to him.

Great scene analysis'! For 4x02, do you think when Ben said "Idk what to say to that" after Devi said she could never date someone who would treat him like [Margot] was also to do with his confliction and harbored resentment for Devi's S2 actions.

I know it's not directly related/the same thing, but cheating/maybe even Devi's obsession with status & the relationships she has with Paxton(S3) & Des, along with Ben's deep insecurity and perception of how guys like that could treat him felt like a reasoning behind his hesitation in that line. Almost like, "well you did" (she didn't; but my initial assumption was that was Ben's inner thought as I watched it).

Thanks for your question, apologies it took me this long to get to them. I think more than anything, Ben felt guilty for the whole situation that Devi found herself in. And when she kept pushing him and guilt-tripping him, in a way, he just didn’t know what to say… but he definitely felt both guilty and ashamed of himself, so much so he couldn’t look her in the eye anymore (he did a similar thing when he said ‘it was my first time too’ in the previous episode). There was no resentment here, concealed or otherwise.

Primis Ji eun: She would be cold and stingy with Primis Zari at first since she couldn't trust someone that easily but she would later on be kind to her. Ultimis on the other hand, she gets annoyed with her being a hothead but still understands and be nice to her for a while.

Ultimis Ji eun: Ultimis wasn't quite social as she would keep her distant away from anyone. But she would tend to get startled and scared when Ultimis Zari would get angry. But she tries to keep in touch to her whenever she's call and needed someone to talk to. Meanwhile, she feels safe when she's around with Primis Zari since she's quite more calmer than her Ultimis counterpart.

Primis Arthur: He always thought of Zari as a little mushroom, considering that he is the tallest and would tease Zari for being a smol angy woman. His thoughts about Ultimis feels like he's talking to a very ferocious yet caring smol mushroom.

Ultimis Arthur: Quite a respectable gentleman towards the two Zaris. He would let the two have a cup of tea when they feel angry or sad. He is a good listener like his Primis counterpart as he is there for the two when they needed someone to talk to.

when did steven universe say anything about god?

Out loud? Never. But every story that is an actual story is offering you a worldview. Steven Universe has a pretty explicitly anti-God-of-the-Bible worldview. It's not just because of the pro LGBTQ+ stuff (that's nothing new.) It's mainly because of White Diamond, her specific characterization and powers, and how the antidote to her "bad" worldview is the phrase "if every pork chop were perfect, we wouldn't have hot dogs."

Steven Universe doesn't say anything about God literally. But it has a strangely large amount of specific things to say about the God-of-the-Bible symbolically, thematically, metaphorically--whatever you want to call "the language of storytelling."

Just like Kung Fu Panda never says one word about self-empowerment, not literally. But it is impossible to ignore that it's about self-empowerment, and says so in everything but words.

I'm getting a lot of questions about the Steven Universe comment, so a more in-depth explanation is probably coming in a different post. Because I watched the show all the way through--because it's incredibly well-done (for the most part) and I understand why others enjoy it. But that's what's scary about it.

sorry if this is a weird question, but how do you get started in learning embroidery? (also other question: have you ever done a derse/prospit design?)

not a weird question at all!

if you're anything like me, you'll get started by picking up embroidery for about two weeks, then give up because it's hard and you're not very good at it, only to pick it up again a few years later no longer caring if you're any good at it or not and stubbornly keep making things until the pile of things you're proud of outweighs the pile of things you're disappointed by.

that said, there are a lot of different styles of embroidery, so it just kinda depends on what you're interested in! there's beginner's kits that also work as stitch samplers with floss and patterns, tons of videos (this being the one I link most often) and really no rules about what you have to do. you can use a hoop or you can go sashiko style which is completely freeform.

for me, i got into it after seeing some nature embroidery of starfish and seaweed that looked so unlike any other kind of sewing i'd seen before and i wanted to make things just like it. the spark can come from anywhere, so try it out, see if it's for you!

as to your second question, you've made me realize i have honestly never even thought of doing anything for the lunar sways, and now i have a DELIGHTFUL idea i can't wait to try out 😈 so: not yet, but hopefully soon.
