little post on how i come up with the lore n shit for angel!boyfriend

I make shit up! I'll come up with something as a shower thought, pull it out of my ass at an incredibly random time, maybe get it from a prompt on here (believe it or not, this whole thing happened because I saw the angel bf theory and was reminded of a Tumblr post).

I look into fanon! I like doing my research- I dig around the wiki pages and modders' Twitter pages to see what they've said about the characters I want to include that they've made, then write that in.

I look into canon! This could mean just digging around the OG FNF devs' social media/the Funkin' wiki, or doing some research on actual beliefs and stuff (except I'm not all that serious about it because come on, it's an AU for a rhythm game. I'm just having some fun.) Then THAT gets written in.

I fill in any holes! I gladly pull more shit out of my thoughts to patch together anything that's been left to interpretation- and this is also when I come up with tiny joke trivia bits that branch off the last two parts, such as Boyfriend being a bit embarrassed about his height (or lack thereof).

and that's my process 👍 i'm no serious/professional writer or anything! i simply have a Lot of Thoughts

bf often dropped hints at himself being an angel, especially around pico, so you may be wondering why it took him someone giving him the answer to figure it out

well, they say that if an angel doesn't want you to uncover them, you won't.

bf wasn't doing any of this on purpose- he's supposed to stay hidden and genuinely did not intend to let pico know, he's just a huge idiot! pico on the other hand picked all of it up, but was actually incapable of piecing it together until someone who knew told him

so, tl;dr? magic and bullshit!

neo angel bf acts a little more blunt than regular angel bf, this is based on neo bf's attitude in the unused dialogue you can find in the neo 2.0 files (screenshots of the txt files are under the cut if you wanna see for yourself! it feels oddly fresh to me, actually digging them up rather than just looking from the wiki)

i like looking at the implications of this dialogue :D interesting how gf's parents are nice to bf here

askangelbf lore: angels' pets

angels are immortal, right? the life span of a pet is almost nothing to them, so when they want pets they usually take in those that have already gone to heaven without their owners. there's also the option of adopting animals that weren't pets to begin with, though training them can be slightly more of a hassle.

the additional work aside, pets that were already pets are the more popular choice because of one of the possible reasons they're there in heaven without their owner: the owner went to limbo or hell. bonus points if the reason the owner was there is because they didn't treat their pet right. often, r1 angels will adopt these pets specifically and attempt to give them the life they may not have gotten to have.

the other reason a pet in heaven is ownerless is because their owner is still alive- in which case, when an angel adopts them, it's usually like a pet-sitting job until the owner comes to heaven. unless, y'know, owner ends up in limbo or hell.

you're probably wondering now (or not, i'm not a mind reader), which reason does donut fall under?

(neo event is self-explanatory! angel!bf is temporarily replaced with his neo counterpart who, mind you, is a VERY different person from the sweet blue-haired boy you're familiar with. main story chapter 2 doesn't have much to it yet but i intend for it to take a trip to the demon world! there's some ideas for chris and gf i'd like to include but i'm still figuring out how to connect it all together)
