Can you give us your headcanons and thoughts on Belgium? What’s she like?

A very emotionally intelligent woman who has a track record of being very strongly attracted to whomever the current power is. Spain, Portugal, Venice, England, and America. She's very good at getting what she needs without much effort in that arena.

She has very sturdy self esteem. Being one of two women in her region (Brighid being the other) made her something of a scarce resource, prized as much as the wealth generated by her territory. She's beautiful and she knows she's desirable. Beautiful, intelligent, hilarious witty, scathingly witty, artistic. She's got that eye for trade and design that Jan has but with much better packaging, an eye for PR, and social skills. As a woman among the empires, she held a bit of a strange spot being just as culpable as anyone else but wielding power slightly less directly. But being in a corset doesn't make her any less capable or culpable.

She loves her waffles and carbs. She is honestly so much better at making beer than the men around her but gets so little credit for it. She too this day has a love of textile work that belies the very strong leg up it gave her financially for much of her young adulthood. Belgian linen is to this day the conservation standard. She has an eye for making lace, and often makes her own curtains or cuffs well into modernity, probably picking it up again in the past few years.

She's quite good at managing her dual linguistic communities, despite the grid lock it causes. And speaking from my own experience: I see her also tending to be the least judgmental of the francophonie at least as far as the accents gi. She gets a kick out of listening to people butcher French and Dutch, especially as many learned it in Flanders. She annoys Jan endlessly with her version of Dutch and wishes he'd get his head out of his ass but at the end of the day the big stupid € is who she has for family.

I'd love to know more about Emma in your Regency AU, given the fact she was in the description of it

I don't talk about Emma nearly enough! In the Regency AU she and Arthur are engaged of course, but it's more of a convenience thing rather than a romantic pursuit. Emma's family, headed by Jan, is part of the Nederland's Patriciaat. They're kind of like unofficial nobility, they have wealth and influence, but they lack a title. The Peeters family got this position as successful merchants- the problem is that by 1810, the French have put that in jeopardy. Jan had been doing business in England for a number of years because of the war, but the French takeover made it difficult for him to exercise any power and authority in the Netherlands, and messed with his business in the Indian Ocean to boot. Emma, therefore, becomes a means to an end: if she can marry a member of the English nobility, their family will have some attachment to "truly" noble blood and a money safety-net. The fact that it's Arthur, whose family is also involved in maritime trade and who has influence in the British navy makes their situation even better.

Emma has always known what her role was going to be, and for the most part she'd accepted that. She's bubbly, inviting, good at parties. She's a queen of society, and she knows it. She also understands that securing that kind of life is the end of the bargain she gets from marrying Arthur. That's not to say that she never wanted a loving marriage, but more so that she spent years telling herself it wasn't worth waiting for one, especially when Jan had his own interests to look after. If Arthur wasn't infatuated with Francis, it's likely they might have had an actual loving marriage. She doesn't exactly know it's Francis at first, but she gathers pretty quickly that Arthur's heart is in another place that he can't present to society. She's at least got the consolation that she'll have Molly's company and Arthur will be gone for long stretches of time at sea.

What shakes this "perfect" arrangement up is Antonio. He makes his way to England through Joao, as a favor to his own fiancee, Anneliese. He was also a family friend to Lovino and Feliciano, giving him someone else to stick around for. Anneliese and Antonio are also headed toward a marriage of convenience, that is until Antonio sets eyes on Emma. The two start having a bit of a flirtation back and forth, especially as they start acting as "chaperones" for Molly and Lovino. It gets serious, and it's probably one of the first relationships Emma has ever gotten any emotional fulfilment out of aside from Molly, Lovino, and her younger brother, Alexander. It really forces her to reckon with whether or not she's willing to give up the prospect of having status for a future in which she's happy and fulfilled. She sort of overcorrects, and ends up projecting onto Molly, almost fucking up her relationship in the process as well. In the end, she really ends up kind of being a matchmaker around the ton, which in turn rehabilitates some of her views on her own love life and forces her to work with Antonio even more.

All in all, if I ever actually wrote this fic (maybe someday when I'm not booked up with an internship!), Emma would 100% be one of the more central characters. She's the one whose arc I really have the most thought out, and she's one of the strings that ties a lot of people together.

do you have thoughts on hersheys/american chocolate

to be frank i don't know what "american chocolate" reeeaaally means. like. do kitkats and mars and twix and stuff count? they're not chocolate per se, more like chocolate fingers. but if those are included, yea all that shablang is good but arguably more for the filling than for the chocolate itself (but since they're so common maybe they're france/europe-made and if so they definitely taste differently than real usamerican ones)

also i am not the best one to answer this kind of question cuz i have a very low sugar tolerance, i'm not a chocolate bar addict and i'm not a snacker in general at all. so yknow!! maybe biased answer!!

now to the taste test.

i have gone to three different superstores, a sweets-specialised store and a usamerican-specialised store and this is the only type of hershey's i could find so very limited choice here (arguably since it's not a plain chocolate i'd argue the test is null and void but let's carry on regardless)

(+ reese's cup cuz it's very usamerican, it's not very common and i never had one before. although it belongs to the chocolate finger kind of sweets)

the reese's cup is genuinely a horrible, awful snack. i'll be completely honest and had "mini reese's cups" before this test (i'm writing this live btw) and i was very close to just spit it all out because of how disgusting it was to me. and it happened again with the big ones lmao, albeit they were more balanced. by the second cup it's a bit enjoyable but it's really not . good. milk chocolate + peanut butter is Not It (never had peanut butter before so maybe it's solely because of the pb). plus it's sooooo sugary. i'm not gonna sleep tonight after this. i feel like i drank a cup of monster energy drink but there's no caffeine so it's not even worth it

now the hershey's – i took a square of black chocolate for cooking before hand to remember the taste of my usual chocolate (i don't like black chocolate but still. For Reference i had to). soooo. it's good. i like milk chocolate so it's very nice and the crunchy of the biscuit is cool, i like crunchy things. the milk chocolate feels very similar to the white chocolate i'm used to, albeit more sugary maybe. hard to tell with the biscuit. taste wise it's good. however the squares are very little (height-wise) compared to my usual chocolate bars so it's very unsatisfying hunger-wise, a feeling which i don't have AT ALL with my usual chocolate bars (4 squares and i'm usually "ok that's enough chocolate") so i understand better how you can just eat that stuff up until your cupboard is empty

so anyways. that's my review for that particular type of hershey's lmao. would eat again. i'd rather buy a snickers instead though. if i ever encounter regular hershey's i'll do an update i guess. but the reese's cups can fuck right off

Okii, I've mentioned it loosely one or two times, but it is something I might want to write someday, so I won't tell any major plot spoilers 👀 It's mostly been created because I am in university myself and there's a lot of exciting experiences and the community that comes with being a student that I would like to see in fics, specifically being a student in Norway, or even just a fic that is set in Norway at this point.

The story takes place in a city in Norway where Sigurd goes to university, studying maritime engineering in the second year. He rents a flat with his close friend Björn, who studies architecture at the same university. Matthias, Eirikur, and Timo also studies here, and even though they have their own lives for the most part, they do all hang out sometimes because they are friends and knew each other from before uni.

Across the hall from Sigurd and Björn, in another flat rented to students, live Arthur and Emma. Arthur is a friend of Sigurd because they took a class together the first year, and the two of them have biweekly DnD-nights together. Alistair is Arthur's brother who sometimes drops by on visits.

Alistair lives in a flat further away from the city center, which he shares with Francis. Some times Francis will tag along on the visits because he is good friends with Emma and of course to bother Arthur because he has a crush on him.

Alistair and Sigurd becomes acquainted through Arthur and especially at a party he and Emma hosts at the start of the semester. They begin hanging out throughout the year, meeting up when they are out drinking in town, going on hikes together, and just casually hanging out. Everyone else can clearly see there is something going on there.

The entire AU is based mostly on Sigurd and his relationship with Alistair in particular (shockingly it's scotnor again), but also his friendship with Björn and Arthur and all their other friends. As mentioned, it was born out of a craving for something familiar that I've had my own experiences from ✨
