❝ this isn’t gonna end well, sir. ❞
❝ not with that attitude, lieutenant. ❞ the Captain's response is delivered without shifting his focus from the boundless cosmos before them, particularly the swirling tendrils of the Eridani nebula they are assigned to investigate. the lieutenant's concerns are not without merit, given their ship's engines & communication systems have succumbed to a complete power failure. however, the true crisis lies in their critical systems draining the emergency reserves. if they don’t find out WHY this is happening, they’re not going to make it. despite the invaluable asset Spock would present, Jim resolves to entrust him with the helm of their vessel. & although Bones vociferously opposes his decision to lead an expedition alongside a handful of crew members in a shuttle, he is already striding towards the transporter room. ❝ you’re with me on the away team. we don’t know what’s giving off the signal at the heart of the nebula. could be anything. ❞ he tells the other as they briskly head towards the turbo-lift. ❝ i’m gonna need your help when we get there, all right ? ❞

They may have been back in the Right Side Up but this nightmare was so far from over. Especially as Nancy laid out this insane plan that involved them going back into the Upside Down to kill Vecna once and for all. Steve didn't agree with her plan but he was on board regardless of the fact. Because if they didn't do something and fight back, who would? There was no one else that could.
While the others began putting together a list of things they would need to fight Vecna, Steve's biggest concern was still Nancy. Ignoring the stinging pain in his sides, he started making his way over to check on her after her mind attack when he was suddenly tugged back by the collar of Eddie's vest. He was unsurprised to find that Alice was the culprit.
"Oh, Come-- You can't be serious." He said as if she were being the ridiculous one. As if to prove his point, he gestured to the dirtied and wet piece of cloth Nancy had ripped from her own shirt and wrapped around his midsection as a makeshift bandage to stop the bleeding. "I'm good. Really. The bleeding stopped."
In typical Alice fashion though, she waved his protests off and stubbornly insisted on applying better first aid now that they had access to it. "You're seriously overreacting. It's not going to get infected. I'm fine." Aside from being in some pain but it's not like that was anything new. The look she gave him made him want to roll his eyes because he was pretty much arguing with a brick wall. She was unmoved.
Sighing loudly so that she knew that he was annoyed, Steve finally sat down. "We don't have a lot of time so be quick, alright? I want to check on Nance before we roll out."

🏹 ——— they're hurt. not in any physical way, but the link between the rig and themselves, he feels the hydraulic fluid leaving the rig like he would blood from his own wrist. his heart — their hearts, because he can feel hers, too. like a shadow or an echo — thumps hard and fast against his ribs, face set in a grimace as they wrench the broken machinery through kaiju flesh, bone and viscera.
weird that he once thought they were kind of pretty, underneath the brick-shitting ferocity.
"you know," he says as they glance at each other, mirror smiles on their faces because she knows what he's going to say, but still he has to say it, "if you weren't in my head, i'd wonder if you say those things just to get me hard."
he knows that not everyone within loccent can hear them, not if their controller doesn't link them into the speakers, so he's not too worried about getting another reprimand for his in-pod and on-mission communications. still, it thrills something inside him to hear their controller give a huff of a laugh over comms.
"c'mon alice, let's get home to wonderland, huh?"

" and you're officially cut off. " he reached forward and took her drink away from her, and leaned back to set it on the table behind them. he looked up at matt who had been cleaning a table nearby, and pointed towards the half full drink behind him, knowing that he would do well to discard it before she attempted to retrieve it again. " i think it's time you get over that one. you ever think about dating someone that isn't a mass murderer? "

Jake's palms were already sweating as he approached the side door of Brady's van. It seemed no matter how hard his friends pumped him up for this, he just couldn't completely shake the nerves. He just wanted this to go well. Really, really well.
Finally building enough courage to knock, he taps his fist again the door three times before waiting for Brady to answer.
"Hey," he greets with a smile, hoping his voice didn't convey his anxiety. Trying to swallow his nerves, he takes a quiet moment to appreciate Brady's first date attire. "Wow..." He breathes, "You look great. That's a nice color on you... Really brings out your eyes." He wished he could come up with something more original but he was at a loss for words. Brady always looked good, he always caught himself staring whenever they hung out, but tonight especially he had put the effort in.
Clearing his throat after a moment, he smiles and holds up a box he'd bought on the way over from Blue's bakery. "Um, I brought dessert for later. Blackberry pie."

𝐖𝐇𝐄𝐑𝐄 𝐃𝐎𝐄𝐒 𝐘𝐎𝐔𝐑 𝐒𝐎𝐔𝐋 𝐅𝐄𝐄𝐋 𝐀𝐓 𝐇𝐎𝐌𝐄?
— where you are heard .
how badly does your throat ache? when was it that you started yelling? screaming for a split second of recognition in their eyes. i think i heard you last night, right before i fell asleep, an echo of some sorts. you remember everything and it has rightfully made you angry. there's a part of you that lost its trust in humanity. you've tried it. you've sat them down and explained it, you've written the poems and the stories, you've tried your hand at composing the tunes that match your inner worlds. you've drawn pretty pictures. you've tried, with every last bit of energy inside of you, to translate what you've been meaning to say. i want to ask you to tell me about it, to scream, to demand that i hear you. i wish i could be next to you. it's so simple, this thing you desire. to have someone just look at you, for once, and truly see you, see their eyes light up with all that you've been thinking. i hope you can look in the mirror and see yourself, as wonderful as you are, breathe in deeply, breathe out. know that you are here, that you are yours. that you will always be there to listen to yourself. be gentle with your heart, despite the anger oh please, be gentle. the day will come, when you will be holding yourself in your arms, the most beautiful love you'll have ever found, and i promise you people will come along and recognise the image you have painted. they will sit next to you. they'll hear you before you say a word. you'll be like art to them, the way you're art to yourself, the way even the river sees you walk by and silently sighs her admiration.

❝ if i can be that for someone, then I’M SET. ❞ the lady’s words are like meteorites entering the atmosphere of his beating heart, caught on fire & their brilliance a sight to behold. to think that a man like him, who was ready to destroy himself surrounded by mindless cornfields of a dead state, could achieve such a feat possible ? his satisfaction is akin to discovering an uncharted planet no one has seen before. ❝ it’s what captain Pike did for me back in the day. i miss him . . . ❞

Thus far, Homecoming was running rather smoothly. They showed up together in their matching green, turning many heads as they became the envy of the entire room. Just as it should be. They got their photos taken for the yearbook, which were going to look great once they were developed, and now they were going to share a dance to some song that was definitely more Alice's taste than his, but it was fun nonetheless. This was more her night anyway, even if he himself would earn a crown as well.
Steve lets her pull him out onto the floor, trying to keep up pace and in rhythm with her movements. It's a more high energy song than the usual slow dancing he does with girls but it's somehow more personal with her. More... fun, which was a weird feeling to have considering they weren't actually dating.
As the song starts to near its conclusion though, they both ease up in their movements to adjust any out of place hairs or wrinkles in formal wear because as soon as the song is over, the music cuts altogether and it's time for the King and Queen announcements. Alice slips her hand into his and he gives hers an encouraging squeeze, all the while trying to ignore the usual warmth of contact her touch seemed to ignite.
Sheryl starts to announce the winners and he's fully expecting to hear Alice's name in first place... Except that isn't what happens. She's the runner up. There's a slight drop in his stomach as he turns, shocked, toward the stage where Tina was practically bouncing up and down as she received a crown that didn't belong to her. Somehow she had managed to weasel her way into the winner's bracket and steal it right from under Alice.
Still shocked by the turn of events, Steve slowly turns to look at Alice. She's smiling and clapping for Tina but he can sense her disappointment over the loss. It's just a mask she's wearing because to let that slip would be a show of weakness. He knew she was far too proud for that, especially in front of Tina. He wants to say something to her but he's at a loss for words and once he decides he should, his name is being called... For King.
Quickly throwing on his own mask for the crowd, Steve smiles as he strolls toward the stage to be crowned next to his ex. As if this whole situation wasn't awkward enough, the King and Queen were expected to share a dance now, which seems to please Tina a lot. And of course it would, because as far as everyone knows, him and Alice are dating. As if stealing her crown wasn't enough, she would also get to dance with her date and if Tina thought she was going to further humiliate Alice then she had another thing coming.
As soon as the song starts playing and Tina makes a move to take his hand on the stage, he takes a step back from her with a casual grin on his face. "Sorry. I'm taken." That seems to wipe the grin clean off her face, especially as he turns to step off the stage and leave her hanging in front of everyone.
Making his way back to Alice, he murmurs, "Want to step outside for a bit?"

🐾 ––– he laughs himself into a groan, his hands coming up to rub over his face. they're enjoying lunch at a table at the 'den, or at least it seems like alice is enjoying herself. by torturing him.
"how is this my life?" he asks rhetorically, blinking tears out of his eyes from rubbing them, reaching for his coffee. before she can answer that, he pulls the cup away from his mouth without even a sip having been taken. "i mean, i'm in my thirties and going on a blind double date with my sister and her fiance and i'm asking for dating advice from my best friend."
he shakes his head into a long sip of warm coffee that is nowhere as good as the mochas alice makes him. a heavy sigh leaves him as the cup clinks back onto the formica.
"i'm officially pathetic, huh?"

A random thread no one asked for lol
@ask-alicelockwood
The day Peter became a father was the day that anything else he had going on ceased to matter. That included the building a pack thing Crystal had been pushing for. His daughter was his entire world and there wasn't a damn thing he wouldn't do for her. Even if it meant going against her mother and you didn't go against Crystal. Not if you valued yourself because that woman was a tornado ripping apart anything that got in her way. He was only sorry he learned that too late.
Having done his fair share of research on the law and finding the right representation, Peter landed himself in Alice Lockwood's office with no appointment and his young daughter tagging along.
"Excuse me, ma'am," Peter greets as he peaks in through the office door, voice apologetic. "Sorry to bother ya, I don't have an appointment or anything but I was hoping you could spare me a little time. In some desperate need of some help."
