cant scribble it out bc its too Involved but here's a Laughingstock thought that just feels Right:

im imagining them sitting down and going through a list of pet names to use for each other. like Howdy has a clipboard, Barnaby's sitting across the counter, they're going through the list and striking out the ones that don't work. playfully teasing each other about certain suggestions, losing it over a Bit where they try to call each other the names in the most sickeningly sweet lovey-dovey voices and see who cracks first, mutually making fun of some options, getting flustered when they find one they like. yeah <3

How would Homelander feel about his s/o calling him Johnny? Never John, but Johnny, giving him a nickname at the least.

Also I can totally imagine him taking his girlfriend’s last name or maybe there’s an occasion where his girlfriend needs to introduce him with a last name and she just calls him “Johnny (insert her last name here)” and he’s just really touched because he finally has a family name. He finally has family.

i think it would just wildly depend on how they got there. maybe someone determined enough could help him reclaim that name, especially altering it so affectionately. Homelander is desperate to be loved, to be accepted, to have what he has been deprived of.

however, all of those desires heavily conflict with his need for perfection. for godhood.

Homelander is clearly the name he's most comfortable with, regarding "John" as a secret identity that he has long since shed, not his "real" name. he said as much to Annie. plus, when he called her secret identity cute, it pretty much confirmed to me that he considers those identities to be their costumes. to him, their hero personas are their true selves.

i'm sure i've talked about this before, but Homelander never once calls any of the other supes by their civilian names. he only ever addresses them by their superhero names, and i think that says a lot about how he views those respective identities, as well as his own.

John is a persona. Homelander IS his real name, at least as far as he's concerned in current canon.

that said, i AM a huge sucker for Homelander taking his s/o's last name. i think that's incredibly sweet.

Since Peter has tried to mask most of his autism is there certain things that he couldn’t hide? I know a hard one to mask is stimming.

There are the common ones like pacing, humming, arm flapping etc or some that are more distinct like auditory chirps (I’m not a bird I swear lol)

There are multiple different forms of stimming but I think Peter pacing around rooms, or pencil tapping one might be one of them. But these types are done by basically everyone so it’s hard to tell.

If Peter got more comfortable in the FAR future what types do you think he would start doing?

peter stims all the time! he's constantly fidgeting.

he always carries the ring he was going to propose to gwen with and fiddles with that. all the time. all the time. i guarantee you, he never goes anywhere without it. (he's almost lost it, so many times.)

little known things that live in my head and sometimes in the fics - peter loves to sing. he's bad at it, but he loves to do it. it's calming for him. only when nobody's watching.

another behaviour i'm kind of obsessed with for peter is the mimicry – it's not as obvious as it is with wade, but peter tends to latch onto other people that he likes and wants to match their energy. whether he succeeds or not.

peter's the kind of guy who'll mirror the behaviours of the people he loves. usually in a subtle sort of a way.

i think he always tries to become more like the people in his life that he loves and admires - because, he figures - he loves them for a reason, and i think, he thinks, if he becomes more like them, it makes him more loveable too.

Legacy being unable to talk in that form + an s/o who knows Sign Language.

No no, hear me out.

He's only mimicking his s/o at first, not knowing their hand motions are signs, for communication. I have this fluffy image in mind of his s/o laughing when they notice him signing back without knowing the meaning. You know, mirroring as a love language. Like cats do – it's more of an instinct thing. And now you just have to teach him, because a. him signing with big claws is adorable, b. you want him to understand what you're signing and c. you wanna give him the chance to communicate back too!!!

Now I am very curious WHAT Legacy would "verbalise" when given the proper way to communicate.

Would it be just concepts and feelings at first? Like, absentmindedly signing "love love love" while cuddling half asleep? With proper practice, would he be able to clumsily string together sentences...? Like, excitedly hijacking Childe just to say hi and to recount how their day has been?

Would he fiddle with troublesome signs? Would he sign your name when he's away and missing you??????

I personally imagine memories are difficult to be shared between both Legacy and Childe, but muscle memory definitely is (you know, because fighting and survival instincts and stuff, I think it makes sense). So it would be very very funny if Childe ever surprises himself with accidentally signing a response instead of saying it and pretty much going "??????".

Pfff– realising you've only ever taught Legacy and not Childe but he still ended up learning it too is going to be so stupidly hilarious when it hits.

OH MY MOON AND STARS DID YOU READ MY MIND? i've loved the thought of Foul Legacy learning sign language for years ehhhehehehhe

your fluffy Abyss monster doesn't know what your signing means, not at first, but he still admires how fluidly and quickly your hands move! sometimes you'll greet him with both words and sign language, either to practice or out of instinct, and before long he begins mimicking the motions back to you. he doesn't know what they signify, but your face absolutely lights up whenever he signs to you, and your smile means more than almost anything to Legacy. when you start teaching him it's by holding his claws with your hands and guiding them into the correct positions, hearing his purrs all the while- the first word he intentionally signs to you is "snuggles?", with a tilted head and pleading look in his pretty blue eye. he'll sign the word "love" and then point at you, bumping his forehead against your cheek and hooking his claws on your sleeves until you understand and sign it back to him

Foul Legacy practices signing when you're away at work!! it's mostly idle conversations to himself or single words when he sees something he likes... but some days he's lonely. some days he misses you so much that his heart feels like it's being stabbed and all he wants to do is cuddle with you underneath several blankets. but you're not here right now, so he just signs "miss you, miss you, miss you" until you finally come home and he darts over to scoop you into his arms. only when he's curled around you does he nudge your cheek, slowly signing "miss you" with a quiet whine before giving your hand a gentle nibble, and your heart just shatters- you're definitely working from home tomorrow

oh Childe DEFINITELY ends up randomly signing words that he doesn't even understand, and while it's all fine and dandy with you, since you CAN understand them, it's less fine when he accidentally does it in response to his subordinates. most of them just stare at him awkwardly before clearing their throats, asking if he heard them- but occasionally whoever he's talking to will be fluent in sign language like you are and excitedly ask if he knows it as well. honestly Childe feels really guilty about having to say no, so next time he visits you he takes your hands and firmly requests that you teach him sign language as well. if anything, it's a good communication tool to have- he is a Harbinger, after all!

The stick season album is pushing a cart through the aisles of a grocery store by yourself and the lights are just a little too bright and the music too loud and you want to enjoy it but you’re actually just empty. And then loading your groceries into your car but it’s raining now…and your favorite song comes on the radio but you look at your phone and the person you’re in love with read your text eight hours ago and hasn’t responded. And you look out the window at the rain and realize that the food you just bought isn’t actually want you want to cook, but you don’t know what you want…and the car is warm and cozy now but everything is just so empty….and you want to go home but it’s not where you’re living…

any advice for newbie fanfic writers or new writers in general? I always have trouble trying to "paint a picture/ describe a scene and happenings lol thanks :D

I feel like I say this every time, to the point that its like a cop-out answer, but, genuinely, you really do just gotta practice.

Its like with any type of art. You won't get better at drawing if you don't just draw. You won't get better at an instrument unless you play the instrument. I didn't really notice my writing getting "better," but looking back at the earlier chapters of Fractures and comparing them to my newer stuff, it's clear that I have.

Past that, I mean one thing I do is I read all of my stuff out loud. I try to see if the words that I've written put the right image in my head. "Painting a picture" is a hard thing to do with writing, and a lot of the time its less about the amount of words that you write and more about the way that you use a smaller amount of space.

Crack open a thesaurus. Don't use bigger, more obscure words just for the sake of using them, but find ones that might work better. At the same time, though, don't be afraid of common words. I use "said" quite a lot, even though a million English teachers will yell about how basic it is. Much of the time, though, the emotion comes from the actions the characters take outside of the dialogue tag.

There are a few things you can choose to focus on when it comes to "painting a picture" that will set an overall mood quite easily. One of the most simple and yet most effective is weather. Describing the sky, the time of day, what the sun looks like. It can add tension, or drama, or can even stand to emphasize the state the characters are in, like when its a nice day but they're going through something hard.

Everyone's going to have a different writing style, too. Sure, you can copy someone else's, but if you're just writing yourself without trying to emulate another author, you're going to have your own style.

Personally, I tend to do a lot of comparisons to describe things. I pinpoint a few details and call back to them throughout a chapter or a story. Oftentimes I like to get a lot deeper into the character's mindset and examine that for a good while before pushing the plot forward. One of my friends, on the other hand, is a lot more straightforward with her writing, sort of trying to tell it as it is. Both describe what needs to be described, just in different ways.

If you're really struggling with trying to figure out how to "paint a picture" in the reader's head, try thinking through the different aspects of the scene. Anything that you can describe. Then, pick what actually needs to be described to understand what is going on. The positions of the characters, the vague setting, things like that. You don't need to go super in depth, because the reader knows, even subconsciously, how to fill in a lot of the detail on their own. You really are just here to "set the scene."

As I said before, though, no matter what advice you take, the only true way to see solid improvement is through actively writing. It doesn't need to be stuff you publish, but I would encourage it, since feedback is an enormous help as well. Either way, though, just keep writing, and reading it back, and then writing again, and you'll see improvement, just as with any type of art.

really obsessed with soulmate au’s recently and it got me thinking… what if john’s soulmate was part of the boys? a girl trying to kill him with an entire group of people also trying to kill him… and he’s fated to her? could picture him finding out and just putting his hands on his hips while turning his back to her and doing that click chuckle thing. just in utter disbelief but it is definitely on track for fate’s little play with him and his life lolol

Oohhh, you know, I've never played much with the soulmate au concept, but this struck me just right because I can so clearly see the slow, building meltdown that strikes him when that reveal drops.

The mirthless laugh, shaking his head, the hapless gesture to the ceiling before his hands drop. "Of course. Of course it's you. Why wouldn't it be? I mean—Christ, it makes sense, doesn't it? Every single person who was supposed to love me has-has fucked it, so why—" he keeps cutting into this escalating, unsettling laughter. There's nothing funny about it: you're sure that you're watching someone lose the last shred of their sanity in real time. "Why would my 'soulmate'-", he says, miming big, dramatic quotation marks. "-be any different?" That manic grin has shifted into tight baring of his teeth, a vicious sneer. He closes in on you, stands so near you can feel the heat of his breath when he hisses, "I should put you in the fucking dirt with the rest of them."

It should be terrifying, but it's hard to focus on anything other than the glassiness of his eyes. The sheer devastating heartbreak of it all, telegraphed clear as day in the way he carries himself. His eyes flare red, sizzling up the tears before they can fall. "And then you really will be all alone," you say. Maybe it's the hopelessness of the moment, maybe it's the shock of learning for yourself that he's supposed to be your one and only, but you feel numb. Frayed in a way you didn't know you could be. The crimson light of his eyes disappears in an instant, revealing surprise, followed by a wounded kind of look, before that familiar seething rage returns. "We'll see about that."

I would love to knock the spider emo into the abyss lmao but I don't think going up against someone like that would be a good idea. I have never been to a gym so far in my life so the most I can offer is a weak punch (no martial skills as well :( )
