they get on each other's nerves so much. half the time you’re breaking up fights and mediating arguments. but no matter how stupid one thinks the other is - there’s still a lot of love involved. it just doesn’t come across as such when miguel throws an empanada at johnathon, or when johnny portals miguel into the sewers ❤️

what they do agree on is how much they love you. these superpowered freaks adore you and they’ll do anything and everything to keep you safe.

they’re both geniuses, so science is something big for them to bond over. the two bounce ideas off of each other and provide really good insight. both of them practically live in your home’s lab, so they spend a lot of time there together tinkering (and bickering.) if you’re a sciency person, ofc you’re joining them. if not, you’re just happy to listen to them ramble. you love your smart-ass boys!

miguel and johnathon are also huuuge nerds when it comes to cheesy sci-fi movies. they adore playing video games with you and doing weekly movie marathons.

★ they both use their powers to hog the popcorn hehe ★ miguel falls asleep quickly, because he feels safe with you two, and it’s the cutest thing. ★ but once johnathon woke him up from “awww”-ing too loud :(

both miguel and johnathon hog the bed. it’s easiest for you to sleep between them, like a tight fucked-up sandwich. for the most part it’s great and insanely comfortable, but the two cling to you like you’ll fly away.

at first meeting miguel johnathon is skeptical, because miguel is the ceo of alchemax in his dimension. once miguel explains he went through similar troubles with the company in the past, and that he’s working on fixing it, johnathon feels a bit better. miguel offers him a research position but johnathon declines, more content with the idea of supporting you and miguel from home.

★ miggy things !

miguel teaches you and johnathon basic self defense because he’s so scared of his enemies targeting you two. he really appreciates daily check-ins and confirmations if you’re apart.

you and jonathan dote over miguel. you both know he’s been through a lot, so you’re always there to provide comfort and care when necessary. he has so much on his shoulders and you both try your best to take on some of it on for him. a lot of times, miguel will prefer to be alone for a bit, but once he’s collected his thoughts, he’ll come back to you and johnathon for cuddles.

another thing in spite of their disagreements is being silly together. yes, miguel can be quite serious but at heart he’s just as charming and witty as any other spider-person. he’ll say the funniest shit out of nowhere and it has you and jonathon cackling.

★ you show miguel a picture you took of spider-cat. the little man has his belly out and everything. ★“...fat ass.” ★ “BAHAHAHA-”

you and johnathon swoon over miguel’s spanish.

miguel likes to slap johnathon’s back and it makes the lanky motherfucker start choking lmao

he goes to jess and lego spider-man for relationship advice. he doesn’t trust peter b. divorcee with that shit.

★ johnny things !

he considers himself a retired villain now. crime is no longer a necessity now that you and miguel have mended his broken heart. he has a shoplifting habit, though. it’s just so easy with his powers! miguel has threatened to turn him in numerous times.

if miguel needs it, he’ll help him out in the field, but overall johnathon prefers helping from the lab. same goes for you if you’re a vigilante as well.

he has a lot of trauma from the past, especially in regards to the accident. you and miguel always lift him up in your own unique ways. you tend to be more comforting while miguel opts for providing practical advice. johnathon really appreciates having you two as close company on tough days.

jonathon feels so damn lucky to have you and miguel. he’s always saying shit like “wowee i really hit the jackpot!” you love it and miguel thinks it’s stupid (-ly cute.)

johnny’s so smug about being the tallest (unless you happen to be over 7 feet tall - will you marry me-) miguel is still fairly tall, and webs things if necessary - so whenever johnathon reaches something for him he gets all pouty.

once he called miguel “papi.” miguel couldn’t take it seriously and fucking died. johnny’s still haunted by it.

★ rdr things !

you have the unique ability to make these two incredibly stubborn men melt in mere seconds. they both don’t respond well to authority, but they always listen to you. They trust your judgment and know you want the best for them.

they love teaming up to dote on you. on a bad day, they’ll prepare your favorite foods and do whatever you like, whether that be cuddling silently, talking about it, or something else. it breaks both of their hearts to see you upset.

the two are always hyping you up, no matter what you do. if you’re a student? hell yeah, write those fucking papers! are you a vigilante like miguel? you’re so brave and kind-hearted! do you stay at home? thank you for keeping everything in check and being there! but what matters most to them at the end of the day, is that you’re you, and happy and safe with them.

sometimes they just talk about how much they love you.

★ “y/n looks gorgeous today,” johnathan sighed. ★ “they always do though, don’t they?” miguel thought out loud, “we should get them a present.” ★ “for being pretty?’ johnathon asked. ★ “for being pretty.” miguel agreed, with a little smile.

★ platonic spider-family things !

jessica drew is your bestie and you wouldn’t have it any other way. johnathon and peter b parker are two dorky dads grilling together. don’t even get me started on miguel and lego spider-man.

miguel still scares the shit out of poor miles, but they’re both warming up to each other, slowly but surely.

johnathon and miles get along great. he’s become a scientific mentor figure for the boy, and it’s the sweetest thing. he and miles talk about physics all the time (because miguel is once again, scary) and johnathon helps him out with school stuff. miles will join the two in the lab sometimes, so you always set aside his favorite snacks for him :)

gwen hobie and pavitr like to visit too, and they’ll join you guys for meals.

johnathon is so great with the kids. despite him being an ex-villain they absolutely adore him. he makes jokes and stupid references to embarrass them.

you, miguel and johnathon often babysit mayday so peter b and mj can have a date night.

TBH it hasn't been getting a lot of comments or interaction lately, so I wasn't sure if people were still following it or really thinking about it much D: I definitely am going to continue and I have pretty solid plans up through about Chapter 13, but I got caught up in good old Adult Things (got a car part stolen and had to speedrun finding a job, and by some insane miracle I landed a good one???) and had to sorta get my life together for a while. I was also pretty bummed and discouraged that the Elimetri fandom kinda fizzed out after S5, and the hype that was there after S3 and S4 seems few and far between these days </3 And when someone DOES show up and get hyped about my boys, it always seems like they get bored after like 2 weeks and vanish into the ether again D: I feel like an immortal roaming the ruins of a once great and thriving civilization akjsalksufhdulrh

BUT ALL THAT TO SAY this is really encouraging <3 <3 Love that people are still invested, and now that my life has stabilized a bit, I may actually get Chapter 7 done ^^; The canon Mexico plotline was the most underwhelming thing I've ever seen in my entire life (and Season 5 as a whole and I just...did not really Vibe for a lot of reasons), and it's frustrating because like!!! Why would you introduce this grand epic quest for Miguel to find his dad and learn about his Dark Past™️ and then have it be over in 5 minutes and reveal nothing interesting whatsoever about Hector!!! Like if the point was to have Johnny prove he could be a good father figure to Miguel after all and to cause conflict between Miguel and Sam, then there were like...ways to do that without yeeting Miguel to another country with no ultimate character development or narrative payoff :/

And they really expect me to believe Miguel and Robby sat in petty stony silence the whole several-hour drive home and didn't even try to talk through ANY of their issues??? Didn't have ANY road trip bonding whatsoever??? WHAT A FUCKING WASTE. LAME.

ANYWAYS. I know a lot of people were against the Mexico subplot from the jump (mainly because of the potential problematic directions the show could go with it I think), but I might have been in the minority in being excited for it and thinking it had a lot of potential to see a world outside the Valley. Potential which it...did not fill at all. Like at least show us what sketch-ass shit Hector actually DOES!!! My god!!! Also not Robby being like "I wanna make things right with Miguel!!!" and then...clearly not doing that. Like considering their apartment brawl later was the first time Robby has shown onscreen remorse for what he did to Miguel, Robby didn't even apologize in the car ride on the way back??? Or speak a single word to Miguel about the whole, like...Paralysis Incident??? For all Miguel knows, Robby was tagging along just for kicks ajhdsukhfuyh

The whole thing is a mess tbh. I blame rushed production for S5. Deadass thank god for the writer's strike??? Maybe with more time for the writers to actually do their jobs, S6 will give its plotlines some room to breathe.

SO YES, long story short, I wanna do this plot thread some justice and also have my OTP be gay as shit the whole time <3 And give Miguel the epically dangerous adventure of self-discovery he deserves while ultimately still showing him he is very loved and does not need his shitty biological dad!!! God bless!!!

and okay the thing is that bits of the season aren’t universally straight

- chozen and daniel and amanda at the beginning basically seem to start up a little triad. daniel buys chozen a couch for 2000 dollars, shares clothes with him, helps him dress, etc. and while amanda at first isn’t happy with chozen there it’s more to do with how she feels like daniel hasn’t been honest with her and is keeping her out of the loop -- after daniel gets hurt she’s back with johnny as well, and the four of them *ahem* work very well together

- chozen especially gets to show how much chemistry he has with daniel and johnny (danzen and lawguchi and lawgurusso fans all sitting up straight) -- he is daniel’s protector and believer, no questions asked, and he and johnny bond over their shared pasts with daniel, while chozen easily explains things to johnny in ways he can understand (couching things in karate an immediate shared language). he fits so perfectly into the already established dynamics, in fact he irons them out, which has been one of my favourite headcanons for a little while when imagining a lawgurusso setup. that he’s the missing piece essentially

- meanwhile of course, the sam dreamscape is stuck in my head in permanent loop, it’s in my top three scenes of the season. it nails her conflicts as being consistently forced into different supporting roles, with an especially interesting focus on the word “girl” -- one of the girls, girlfriend, girl who broke my heart... ending on tory’s whisper in the darkness “i know who you are, princess,” and sam then fighting herself (who is tory)... i mean, you could analyse that scene for days, it’s so wonderfully rich, while also feeling really obvious (compliment) in its intentions

- the hideous love-square is all but non-existent this season, with the show making the choice for tory and sam to have bigger things to think about than boyfriends (as they have for awhile now), and robby and miguel ostensibly given the space freed up to consider what bits of their narratives haven’t been given their proper dues

- and then in darker places we have the fascinating dynamic between chozen and silver in the first few episodes -- the tension can be cut with a knife (joke? joke). they recognise one another as equals on opposite sides of the mat, and there’s a simmering hatred for everything the other represents + with daniel right in the middle of that dynamic!

- the silverrusso in the first half of the season was great, especially to me the scene with the bonsai trees, which encapsulates everything terry loves doing to daniel (well, maybe he also enjoyed literally beating bratty daniel into submission at last a little while later............)

- (unfortunately they really dialed back the cobra husbands, but you know, any scene those two occupy, even if it’s only briefly, in a flashback and a dreamish sequence, has great tension)

- and lastly in evil nastiness + my general feelings about how powerful the triad dynamics in this show are -- that scene in the last episode between silver and johnny, where he’s pulling his hair and telling him how he never saw what kreese saw in him (earlier we had the scene of kreese talking about how excited he was to train this kid, beginning the embers of jealousy) -- triads are really where I’m at personally with the adults of this show, amanda/chozen/daniel, amanda/daniel/johnny, daniel/chozen/johnny, silver/daniel/chozen, silver/kreese/johnny, kreese/silver/daniel... there’s something interesting for everyone!

The fragrances she uses are most often are vanilla scented. And, if not that, she tends to gravitate more towards sweet &/ or fruity scents or spice scents, such as: coconut, black cherry, berries, cinnamon, coffee, pumpkin. . . Bath & Bodyworks had two seasonal fragrances I always pictured her loving ( 1. Pastel Skies — "soft cloud berries, pink spun sugar, & coconut musk" and then 2. Sweet Whiskey — "golden amber, vanilla-infused whiskey, & sweet red berries" ). That said, what she views as overly sweet, such as birthday cake or frosting, she tends to avoid.

I actually don't think I've brought up her favourite colour ! Amazing. Obviously, she loves red, it's her whole ✨thing✨, but if you actually asked her to pick out ONE favourite ? It's #facbdf ! It's the colour she painted the walls in her and Lindsay's first PI office, and she's incorporated into every office she's had since. Makes her nostalgic, a little at peace for a few seconds.

The venom that courses through Jessica's veins is what turns her irises the green colour they are. Naturally blue, her eyes fade back to their genetic shade whenever powers are weak ⸺ like when she's brought back to life and her abilities fluctuate. Or, to a lesser extent, whenever she needs some time to recover from a fight, they fade juuust a little while she heals. It varies if it's noticeable or not.

three things your character likes doing in their free time:

Riding around Manhattan and Queens on her motorcycle, somehow there's always something new to see ⸺ as well as the comforting familiar.

Puzzles ! Solitaire ! Sudoku ! Brain teasers ! Crossword ! Simple problem-solving games and things of the like. Basically anything you can find in an adult activity book at the gas station.

Rewatching some of her favourite movies, such as: Star Trek II: Wrath of Khan, Alien, The Karate Kid, Short Circuit, Total Recall, Heat, Sean Connery era Bonds, or really any 7/8/90's era martial arts, action, sci-fi or horror movie. She's got a lot of genres she likes the most and couldn't chose between if you asked her to, but most carry some significant theme to her: such as the main character being a detective or spy, a science experiment gone wrong, the strength of friendship and how much it can mean, standing up for your morals and values, or it's got a mentorship of some kind ⸺ usually a paternal one. A lot of her anger, and the way that causes her to reaction in some situations and towards others. How she lashes out, and how venomous fists and words are always her first instinct. . . And how this has occasionally hurt those she holds closest.

Retiring her private investigator agency in Madripoor. After some time, her and Lindsay return to San Francisco, where Linds begins taking classes to become a professional stuntwoman, and Jess starts to take up more jobs wherever she can find them ( including all the way to places like Istanbul ! Lindsay went along for that one — ). This leads to her being on the east coast / in New York more often than she'd have ever thought. And, the more she's out there, the more she's encouraged to allow HYDRA restabilise her powers, which she eventually agrees to ⸺ only for it to turn out to by the Skrulls in disguise. So, tl;dr, she feels leaving Madripoor lead to her getting abducted, and allowing the Skrulls to fully return her powers resulted in the Skrull Invasion since Veranke, the queen, chose to impersonate her. After that has been a mixed bag that has a lot of good, but sometimes, she wonders. . .

My thoughts on Cobra Kai season 5 because nobody asked for it

Ok so this is gonna be so messy because my brain is messy. Also these are just my opinions you can agree or disagree.

Let's begin!!

Fist off, IT TOOK TOO FUCKING LONG FOR DANIEL AND JOHNNY TO MEET! like these two were apart half the season! But because dear beloved chozen was beside Daniel i was not mad at this that much. Also their first scene together was worth the wait for real ( the "who did this to you" vibes)

Lawrusso crumbs were good i enjoyed them!! They have so much tension even when they just stand near eachother it's CRAZY!! ALSO DRUNK JOHNNY SLAPPING DANIEL'S ASS? AWESOME

Chozen and Daniel's scene were my absolute favorites this season. Like, they were really funny and because they were following the main storyline i was really interested in their scenes. I LOVE CHOZEN

But as for Johnny's storyline; im sorry to say this but I DID NOT LIKE IT AT ALL! i liked his whole part with trying to find Miguel and trying to fix Miguel and Robby's relationship and all that, but the whole baby part with Carmen was so fucking stupid . my man , you already have TWO KIDS to take care of, not to mention one of them you ignored and wasn't there for his entire childhood. Don't you think you need to focus on him now? Like, how about we spend one fucking season to actually build a better bond between Johnny and Robby? Also OMG THE WHOLE JOHNNY SEEING THE PICTURE OF THE BABY AND GETTING STRONG WAS SO FUCKING STUPID IM SO SORRY IT GAVE ME SECOND HAND EMBARRASSMENT.

On a side note; look, i like Carmen she is awesome, but Carmen and Johnny have no chemistry DEAR LORD i cannot watch their scenes together

Terry Silver is a very good villain OMG

not them making me think John Kreese fucking DIED wtf (ooh i liked the secen where he was talking to the therapist and saw every one from his past OMG SO GOOD! I was on the vergeof tears when i daw young johnny ,don't talk to me!!)

The miguel/robby and tori/sam bestisim is making me so happy!! Tori and Sam have a lot of work to do still ,but MIGUEL AND ROBBY WERE JUST ALWAYS NEAR EACH OTHER PUTTING HANDS ON EACH OTHERS SHOULDERS BRUH TOO CUTE.

Also miguel/robby/eli besties era hell yeah

I'm so happy i got a little sibling bonding between Sam and Anthony! It was important to me on a personal level OK?

The limousine part? AWESOME

The protect the egg part? TOO FUNNY I DIED

The finale WAS SO FUCKING GOOD!! it reminded me what i like about the show so much!! So SO GOOD. The chozen and silver fight? GOLD. But not the part where they made me think chozen died wtf fr.

OVERALL, i liked the season but not as much as the previous ones, the whole Johnny and baby storyline is pissing me off i hate it with a passion (sorry not sorry) .

There is also this problem that the show has had from season 1, which is, IT HAS ZERO , LITERALLY ZERO, LGBT REPRESENTATION (that one scene DOES NOT COUNT) ! My dudes this show has a LOT of characters and NONE of them are a part of lgbt? None of them are questioning themselves even? I understand that they're trying to keep the ~old vibes~ but that is literally no excuse for not having lgbt characters. It's so stupid. You can have the oldie vibes without using outdated storylines. Also lgbt people always existed.

Hmm, just a thought I had after reading negativity posts deconstructing the implications of the Johnny/Carmen pregnancy, but it did strike anyone else how little focus there is this season on Johnny + students that aren’t Miguel.

That was once THE heart of the show, how Johnny’s students helped him grow as he helped them grow. Not just Miguel, though Miguel was kind of the “Face” of the concept, but ALL of them.

Like, yeah, a bit of a montage of teaching when he’s trying to impress the tournament guy (and I DID love that Johnny bonded with him over the Rocky movies, adorable).

And wait, there was that cute lil bit with Demetri where he went, “I’m glad you’re my dork” as Demetri set up his phone. Cute and very appreciated as a contrast to how he first treated the kid. But I think my overall point still stands about how it’s still kind of weird that given how much focus Johnny + his students have gotten in the past seasons, this season had so little of it.

And it would have been so easy to just, insert a moment or two. Maybe something with the Larusso siblings, since none of the other kids really got anything resembling an arc.

Maybe Sam's half-assed narrative about finding herself could have had more weight if they followed up on Johnny mentoring her last season and she went to him to talk about her feelings and the weight of expectations she felt (which I'm sure between his past with Sid and Kreese and such, Johnny could show surprising depth about). Or maybe a moment with Anthony where they talk about his bullying and Johnny teaches him to throw a punch, "You won't win the fight with this, but you might surprise one of them enough to run away."

But no, too gay adjacent. Too lawrusso-y, which I don’t even really ship all that hard but which this season SMACKS of no homo-ing the more I think about it. Johnny cares about his sons and unborn baby only.

i’m watching the first karate kid movie, and i had forgotten how really awful johnny was to daniel in this. he was such a bully to the poor boy! but i had also forgotten how absolutely lovable daniel was—he was such a scrappy, cute, kind and sweet boy. the first thing he does when he gets to the new apartment is find some water for a neighbor’s dog—without being asked or anything! what an angel. and i love the relationship he has with his mum. so adorable!!

that’s something i didn’t like about ck—how they made the mum not like amanda when she’s so loving and supportive in this movie.

and i can’t stand how in ck, they downplay johnny’s mean bullying actions to daniel, but play up daniel’s responses to them or his short temper. wtf!!!

johnny is 100% in the wrong, fuck the ck writers. trying to make daniel into an aggressor when he was 100% the bully, and a friendly sweetheart to boot.

What is so sad about how they handled the way Johnny sees Daniel is that it could have made for such a good show. Because Johnny is objectively wrong, but the new audience doesn't know that, and they could have fanbase go "Wait, I don't remember that at all...?!?"

Because it is fine that Johnny is an unreliable narrator. That is fun, actually. He begins the very first episode on a lie: Daniel did not leave him lying facedown on the floor, as the first episode suggests, but it's been over 30 years and maybe Johnny remembers it this way now, because he looks on that moment as the moment his whole life spiralled downhill.

That is good storytelling! That is cool storytelling! They could even frame Daniel through Johnny's eyes as doing things Johnny perceives to be asshole moves, because that's how he wants to think of Daniel.

But where they went wrong with Daniel is that they showed him doing asshole things even when Johnny was nowhere in sight. And that's just not Daniel. That's bad writing! I really admire how Ralph managed to make it pretty clear even then that Daniel is reacting to the threat that is Cobra Kai, not the threat that is Johnny Lawrence, but it would have been much better if, for instance, you only see Daniel through Johnny's eyes, freaking out completely over Cobra Kai, and then the story would shift to Robby, being Johnny's son, and then everybody already loves Johnny, and they're like oho, no, Robby is getting pulled into that asshole's world and then it turns out that Daniel simply isn't an asshole. And then you get to the fight between Robby and Miguel and Robby is not an asshole at all, either. He's good, he's polite, Daniel is a good sensei, and Miguel wins because he attacks Robby's injury outside the fight and Johnny has to go like, ah, shit, AITA?

But they had to make it that Johnny was right! And you can't do that without making Daniel a completely different person! I'm glad they had this moment midway season two where Daniel went "Wow. That was out of character, huh?" and was simply allowed to act more like himself, but it would have been a better show if the writers had not been so obsessed with having found their anti-woke icon who cannot do wrong and acknowledged far earlier that Johnny's mindset is messed up and getting people hurt left right and center. And maybe even delved into the fact that if Robby is messed up to no end, which he is too, possibly giving him the skills to hurt people more effectively is not a good idea. Mr. Miyagi did not go around teaching karate either; you need a very strong student sensei bond, a real need to fight (Robby wasn't being bullied), and even then I think that Mr. Miyagi very consciously steered Daniel away from the attacking side of karate. Not because he wasn't good enough, as ck has Chozen imply, but because Daniel does have a little Cobra Kai in him, Terry isn't wrong. Daniel loves the thrill of the fight a bit too much, actually. That's in the films. "Why didn't you kill him?" Because murder bad, Daniel-san? (Tf, boy, I'm not teaching offense any time soon...) and how they built on that in CK is actually interesting! Of course no karate is defense only. But Miyagi only taught Daniel to fight with a bo because if he'd taught him to fight with sai somebody might have ended up very dead...

...Anyway, the reason I write all that is because of Robert Mark Kamen and Ralph playing Daniel, not the CK writers writing Daniel.

And yes, what they keep doing with Lucille is so bad. Nagging mother-in-law, really? Like she doesn't understand what being a working Mom is. And with her own business. Also that story about Daniel lying to her as a young boy, "it wasn't me?" Daniel is an atrocious liar, honest to a fault, he only ever lies to save others pain. "I have it under control!" [He did not, in fact, have anything under control] that's Daniel. Lucille wants Daniel to have someone, why would she come between them? If anything, that sends up red flags about Amanda. But the writers do not care, because what to mothers in law do other than nag about dinner? They have not thought about what it actually means to be a working Mom for ten seconds. The only thing they really care about is redeeming bullies and dealing with Daddy issues.

And yet so often they write something really interesting without meaning to, or the actors play it in a way where it suddenly does add 20 layers to what we knew before but that is about as often despite the writing rather than because of it. It has so much heart, and commitment, and it's often almost good and then they're like no, our self-insert Johnny is the best Johnny even when Billy and Marty are like, 'actually, you're dead wrong...'

I don't think I've talked enough about how much I freaking LOVE Cobra Kai.

It's a series that I ironically only just got into like earlier this year; thanks to my sister. We watched the first season together and after she fell off of it, I kept going because I couldn't get enough of how genuinely good this show is. From its terrific and at times surprisingly clever writing (when considering the source material) to its amazing cast of characters, this squiggle meister could not get enough of this show.

Similar to Arcane, I came into Cobra Kai from the perspective of someone who only saw the first original film like donkey years ago when I was just a little kid---barely old enough to remember it at all.

So I haven't seen the Karate Kid in many, many years and never watched any of its sequels. I did see the Jaden Smith Karate Kid movie. But as far as the original ones go, I'm not very versed in the world of Karate Kid.

So I didn't have the nostalgic attachment to the franchise as some of the more hardcore fans might had.

All the more reason why I found myself genuinely enjoying Cobra Kai a lot more than I expected.

That and of course the thing where I also got super attached to some of the characters and their dynamics with one another.

My favourite aspect of Cobra Kai is the connection between its protagonist Johnny Lawrence and his boys---Miguel Diaz and Robby Keene. I know some CK fans (particularly the ones on Youtube) love to go on and on about the "kicks" of the show---meaning the fighting and the cameos/callbacks to the Karate Kid series.

But for me, what pulled me in were these three characters and the bond they have which tied into their respective stories---well them and a few other characters who I also love.

Cobra Kai Season 5 premiered yesterday on Netflix and I watched the whole thing in one go.

It was only 10 episodes but I watched it all because as soon as I watched one, I had to watch the rest. I almost even didn't want to finish because I was having so much fun with this season that I wanted to savour all the good from each episode since I know it would be a long while before S6 comes back (if there even will be a S6).

For me to say that Season 5 of Cobra Kai was its best season yet wouldn't be fair to the other seasons that came before it. Because so far, ALL of Cobra Kai has been really, really, REALLY GREAT in my opinion with each season only toping the other that came before it.

And not surprising to me at all, S5 didn't disappoint. It came and it delivered!

I don't want to spoil anything about the season or the show in case anyone hasn't seen it yet.

All I want to say is that…S5 DID NOT DISAPPOINT!

Even after finishing it, I still find myself going back to rewatch my favorite moments from the season. There wasn't a single episode that I thought was bad or boring…it was all just GREAT!

Again, not gonna spoil anything. I just wanted to gush about Cobra Kai for a bit while I'm still riding the high of S5.

If you haven't seen Cobra Kai as yet---definitely go watch it or at least give it a try.

Whether you're an ole school fan of Karate Kid or not like myself, like I said, it's like Arcane in terms of storytelling and direction---the writing delivers for both old school fans while making way for new ones.

What are your theories for CK S5 based off the trailer?

-Samtory and Kiaz reconciliations (I’m only using the ship names for convenience, I doubt they’re going to be romantically involved canonically)

-Miguel’s dad will be a stereotypically bad dad, and Johnny and Robby will “rescue” Miguel. Miguel and Johnny will make up immediately, and Miguel and Robby will bond over a near-death experience

-Tory will be Silver’s star student, like KK3 Daniel, but Tory’s only in it as a means of taking it down (as a spy). She’s passing info to either Amanda or Sam, either openly as herself or anonymously

-Amanda is probably still helping Tory. Hopefully, however, Sam is also in therapy, and the dreams are part of her therapy exercise to confront all the emotions/feelings/moments that she dislikes about herself (her regrets most of all…which explains Yasmine as a Laker girl and Daniel in a gi). Hopefully it turns out to be a learn-to-love-yourself-flaws-and-all type thing

-Chozen is going to be a mentor figure for Hawk. Possibly for Tory, if Tory ever quits CK. He ends up being a way better sensei than Daniel, because he understands Miyagi karate in a way Daniel doesn’t (probably helps that he was taught in Okinawa, and that he has prior experience teaching it successfully to a group, and he knows more techniques and he knows the philosophy better). He even teaches Daniel the difference between inaction and self-defense (this last part is probably too much of a stretch for the writers, who don’t seem to know the difference either)

What's the outcome you are hoping for Miguel in season 5?

I’ll be real, Miguel’s arc is the one next season that gives me the most trepidation because it all just feels like it exists to focus on Johnny’s characterization, much like how Miguel's recovery arc in S3 was more about Johnny than him. That’s it. And look, I understand Johnny is the main protagonist, but I’m tired of Miguel having to be put through the wringer in order to motivate Johnny to do shit.

I’m sitting here just hoping that they don’t go the stereotypical route and make Miguel’s bio-dad a narco (please, literally anything but), but even if they manage to avoid that, what is Miguel going to get out of this? The knowledge that his mother was right, that his male parent was just a bad guy all along and Miguel made a horrible mistake trying to find him?

It all feels like set up to make Johnny look good by comparison, just like they did with having Kreese around to compare him to. And ffs we know Johnny loves Miguel. It’s pretty much Johnny’s only redeemable character trait at this point. Why does Miguel need to suffer in order to prove this point that we all know?

Because pretty much the only new thing that could come out of this scenario will be the bonding Johnny and Robby could do while they’re traveling together in Mexico, which won’t involve Miguel. If Carmen was going with them, I'd feel at least a little better, because then we could guess we'd be getting something between her and Miguel (which would make too much sense, considering the only reason Miguel doesn't know anything about his dad is because of Carmen's choice to hide the information) but that doesn't seem to be the case. So really, nothing about this trip feels like it's actually about Miguel. So is that really worth separating Miguel from his mother, girlfriend, and all his friends just to give Johnny and Robby bonding time?

I mean, I hope I’m wrong. I hope Miguel gets some really good material despite everything stacked against him. And if nothing else, Johnny will have gone a long way in fixing his relationship with Robby so that he and Miguel don't have to be antagonistic toward each other anymore. But I’m not going in with any expectations, and that’s why I’ve been writing cope fic.

My biggest dislike of season 4 was the ending. When Robby went to Johnny, like it was his job to repair what Johnny broke and neglected to fix for 16-17 years. But we all know why they had robby do it.

Johnny always quit after things got hard or he and Robby clashed. Robby has every right to be angry with his dad. and every time Johnny bails that just get worse.

They could have had a nice little moment at the end of season 4 instead with Johnny finding Robby and them talking, maybe robby still confessing he is tried of being angry because i do think that was a good development for robby. It wouldn't be much, but it could have been a start to an entire season of Johnny trying and trying showing Robby he wants to be there, that he loves his son (which the on screen proof is lacking tbh), which is what i think, Robby really wants. Someone to fight for him and prove to him that he is wanted (see that episode where daniel calls Robby family and Robby lights up). I just worry after the scene we got, they are going to do a time skip and all of a sudden Robby and Johnny are close with no real on screen development.

I agree with you.

Admittedly, Johnny should have been the one to come to Robby and try to fix things (rather than his son being the bigger person and making the first move).

However, I don’t necessarily hate the way it happened because I do think it was in character for Robby to be the bigger person and try to fix things, because (despite what some people will argue) Robby is actually the most level headed of the kids.

For example: Robby admitted to Sam about the medal without anyone twisting his arm because he knew he’d done the wrong thing, he also decided not to make his ex-girlfriend jealous at prom because he decided everyone was better off just enjoying the dance, and he never fully aligned with the Cobra Kai ideology because he was smart enough to recognize he’d be nothing but a pawn in their games.

Also, Robby’s always wanted his dad in his life and he decided to open his heart to him in hopes of getting the love he’s been so desperately craving.

What is really going to matter in the long term is what Johnny decides to do with his sons unearned chance at forgiveness?

Will Johnny be the same person? If so, than Robby will realize he made a mistake forgiving him and any chance at reconciliation will be destroyed between them.

Will Johnny change for the better? If so, than Robby will get the love he wants and has deserved his entire life because his dad has finally realized how close he came to losing his son to Cobra Kai.

Of course there’s the third option, where Johnny doesn’t change, but the script forces Robby to act like everything is ok between them (even when it is completely undeserved).

In my opinion, I don’t think we’ll get a time skip that significant or one that automatically makes them closer because leaked photos of the coming season showed them both in Mexico looking for Miguel.

So unless they have some kind of impossible soul searching bonding going on during the car (or bus) ride to Mexico. I don’t see everything magically getting fixed by the time they start their search for Miguel.

Personally, my biggest fear for their relationship is the third opinion and I pray that they make Johnny actually try to repair the damage done to their relationship (without putting Robby on the back burner again or making him seem like he had no reason to be angry).

I hope for a reconciliation between them that is deserved.

I think that’s what every Robby fan wants and it’s also what we deserve after watching Johnny put his son on the back-burner for 17 years.

Really love how Demetri nods super seriously when Johnny says that when you're in a scary situation, don't back down. Like lowkey he actually respects Johnny now and is more open to embracing all of Eagle Fang's chaotic insanity, and I think that's pretty neat.

Also Demetri has grown so much braver over the course of this show, to the point where he's chill with potentially doing life-threatening nonsense to train if needed, and I think that's also pretty neat.

Gotta appreciate how proud Hawk was of Miguel for winning the fishing contest!!! They're good buddies and I love them!

The Bad:

This show will never let Daniel, Amanda, Carmen, and Johnny be in a polycule and this is the crime of the century

I wanted Demetri to jump!!! Would it be out of character? Yes! Did I want it to happen anyways, so that he could gloat to Hawk about it and Hawk could look at him with huge heart eyes? Absolutely!

I just really want to see Demetri go full feral, I think he deserves it

I want Johnny to be a terrible influence on him

I'm sure I'll get flayed again but still a bit more Kreese and Silver stuff then I felt was needed? Like we got a lot of backstory on them last season with the war flashbacks, not sure how much more we need to establish that they're evil divorced karate husbands XD The snake tattoo flashback WAS fun though!

I don't know whether to be amused or annoyed over Daniel and Johnny fighting over who gets to be Miguel's dad, like...it's very funny, especially considering how they fought over Robby too, but like...can't you fuckers BOTH be his dad???

Ahh omg as I’m seeing S4 wishlists going around, here’s mine:

Daniel in cute outfits that actually FIT HIM.

An entire episode about Johnny going to IKEA for the first time and getting lost / loudly complaining about every item having a weird name he can't pronounce. He ends up falling asleep in one of the showroom beds and has to be escorted out by security and is banned from the store.

Johnny getting wasted and turning up at the LaRusso house again, but instead of telling him to go away, Daniel brings him inside and cooks for him.

Cute 80s pics of Daniel showing up online and all the dojo kids are just like omg I am having a CRISIS.

Daniel being bilingual and speaking fluent Italian!

Miguel being exasperated when Johnny admits to him that he looked at Daniel’s Instagram and liked all his pictures in a row and commented on each one. “Don’t you think that’s kinda weird, sensei?” / “What’s weird about it? Why is he posting pictures of himself if he doesn’t want comments??”

Johnny and Daniel fighting over the space in their office (Daniel’s is clean and orderly, Johnny’s looks like an earthquake hit it), but Johnny does nice things too, like buying the fancy sparkling water Daniel likes and putting it in the mini fridge next to his beers.

A montage scene where Johnny and Daniel do karate perfectly in sync and realise they complement each other.

Daniel being bitchy and jealous over Carmen (the girls are fighting!!!)

Sam realising she’s attracted to girls and having a bonding moment with Daniel about it (bisexual dad and daughter unite!!)

Storylines about the kids that don’t involve annoying love triangles!

Terry Silver turning up looking all fancy and dashing, with long flowing white hair. Johnny takes one look at him and is like “who’s this jackass” while Daniel’s trying not to have a meltdown next to him.

A quiet, intimate scene where Daniel lets himself be vulnerable with Johnny and tells him all about his history with Silver and what Silver did to him while Johnny becomes quietly enraged.

Scenes with a smirking, skeevy Silver calling Daniel “Danny” and “my boy” and hinting at their dark past while Johnny snarls and erupts like, HE’S NOT YOURS, ASSHOLE.

Last ep showdown between Johnny and Silver where Johnny beats up all of Silver’s goons first in a Daredevil-esque corridor sequence, ending in an uber-violent John Wick-style fight with Silver, with blood and broken glass and so much razor-sharp karate it gives the audience whiplash.

Cobra Kai 4.1-4.4 Thoughts

I’m through ep 4.4 of “Cobra Kai” and I’m loving it!!! :D It’s off to a great start. Would’ve watched more but my family’s getting ready to have a safe New Year’s thing tonight so can’t watch more till tomorrow but a LOT already has happened!!!

First off I’m loving Daniel and Johnny working together and all the kids training under them both. It feels more like any other sports as you do have to know both offense and defense strategies and normally there’s coaches for both on teams. Daniel also teaching Miguel was fantastic, as was Johnny with Sam!!! :D Johnny and Sam even more so for me as for those that follow me (or if you can tell by my icon) that I love Barbara Gordon/Batgirl/Oracle and this weirdly is similar to how she is not only with her dad Jim but also with Bruce Wayne/Batman. Her and Bruce form a close father/daughter bond too even though she also still has both her parents and he is her mentor (and I’m also going to get this too next year in her DC movie with Leslie Grace & Michael Keaton!!!).

Then I’m loving seeing more of Tory’s story and I feel so much for her. Glad Amanda is realizing too what she’s really like and that Sam is in the wrong at times too about this. Then glad Hawk/Eli is also really remorseful for how he acted last season and is mending things with everyone. All of them working on the new sparring mat is awesome too.

Then Anthony finally getting a storyline and is a bully like Johnny used to be!!! :o Even has his own version of the OG Cobras. I already love Kenny too and that he’s the younger brother of Robby’s friend from JV, and that Robby has taken him under his wing and helping him too.

Then I’m happy Johnny and Carmen are fully in a relationship now and they dealt with him meeting with Ali least season and he’s fully committed to her now. Plus, Rosa and her friends are all for it!!! LOL Now to see Miguel’s reaction.

Then of course Thomas back as Terry!!! :D I’m already loving him and he’s doing amazing!!! And slowly getting back to his evil ways. Also seeing him shirtless it was obvious that he’s not in his 70s as he still looks too good. LOL :D Also so happy to see Barrett and Nick back as young Kreese and Terry and to find out Terry’s dad not only originally owned the company but was disapproving of Terry’s choices. And I like seeing him train Robby (see next paragraph LOL).

Then the flashback with little Johnny!!! :D He’s so adorable and I feel so bad for him as all he wanted was his dad back!!! And I freaked out seeing that box of his dad’s things as I swear I remember Terry having that camera in the Vietnam flashbacks last season and that’s he, Kreese, and their other friend used to take that photo!!! :D I’m one of the ones that fully believe Terry likely is Johnny’s dad and seeing that camera and the military style boots just added even more to that!! :D If that is the case those it changes a lot of what I thought happened between him and Laura (possibly his dad forced him to leave or Terry felt he was a bad father and left similar to Johnny and Robby) and that he possibly never told Kreese about any of this either and why he stayed away while Kreese was teaching Johnny. We’ll see what happens but that felt like huge pieces of evidence.

As always loving the soundtrack too and the pop culture references. Amanda loving “Outlander” cracked me up as Jamie Fraser is more similar to Johnny at times. LOL And Johnny not caring for “Top Gun” but loving Val Kilmer’s Ice Man!!! LOL Then with Miguel listening to Daniel’s favorite 80s music and seeing Daniel’s music is more my Mom’s!!! LOL :D I always joked how Johnny’s music is my Dad’s and now there’s Mom’s. Excited to see where this goes next tomorrow!!! :D

Stuff I loved in season 4:

Silver, pretty much everything about him. I love him. I could write paragraphs.

Robby and Tory, very cute. Having fun at prom and the build up to it. All cute.

Kreese not making Tory cheat at the avt, aw. (Yes, my standards for him are low low)

Kenny!!! 10/10 for likeability and that grin at the end. Go Kenny Go. 😭 When they did that cosplay bullying thing, I felt so bad for him.

Anthony getting more developed. 😅I know the majority hate him but I found him funny since s1 and im a sucker for parallels so Daniel's son being the bully was a yay for me.

Sam giving attitude. Yesss. I disliked the character for so long but honestly was harshly judging her compared to all the others. I can appreciate her now.

Amanda going after Tory for Sam + helping Tory later. She's a good mom.

Robby being a mentor to Kenny and pretty much outshining all the other mentors in the show. I know he got a little corrupted but still.

The fact that Robby and Shawn kept in touch.

Miguel and Daniel doing some bonding.

More young Kreese and Silver flashbacks. Barett Carnahan is a babe.

Every interaction between Daniel and Silver. Oof all that history. I want more of them.

Honestly Kyler. I swear its not that I like bullies but they have some of the funniest lines.

Robby beating up everyone in the dojo and teaching them Miyagi Do. Just look at how capable he is even after everything he's been through. He deserves so much better.

The fact Anthony apologized, I can't remember another bully who did that other than Hawk kinda, his was a bit short tho.

The fighting at the avt, especially Robby and Hawk's fight cause (A) shirtless guys + ab bonus and (B) impressive choreography.

Kreese and Silver's entrance and Silver's apology. It was the weakest apology ever and then he got annoyed Daniel didn't accept it. 🤣 the fact he expected something different.

Stuff I was not super duper pumped about:

Kreese going to jail, like alright the charges are accurate i know but what about what I want #cobra husbands! Silver better visit him in jail.

Stingray, which is a shame cause I found him so funny in season 2 but the deadbeat adult still being a deadbeat was... were we supposed to not root for the neighbour? He was right.

Johnny not addressing the fact he gave Robby a scar on his forehead or apologizing for it. >:(

The show refusing to show Daniel really reacting to Silver and cutting off his explanation of what happened like come onnn, I hope its addressed in S5 because Terry is a big part of why Daniel is so anti Cobra Kai and they barely went into it.

Miyagi Do = just defense with eagle fang = straight offense. Please no. I wanted the show to go into the philosophies behind each karate style.

The name Eagle Fang. I can't bring myself to think it sounds cool. Sorry.

Yasmine being so 2D in character, she's paper. Why couldn't they have shown her hanging out with Sam or something, building bridges or discussing Tory coming back to school. A little depth I beg.

Robby not apologizing to Miguel. Again I hope this happens in s5 cause I love Robby but not showing remorse when you almost crippled the guy, come on.

Miguel and Sam being jealous at prom, why couldn't they all just have a fun time and enjoy themselves? Props to Robby and Tory enjoying themselves tho.
