Regarding The Veil...
Tumblr media
Now that I’ve reached the big reveal in the latest chapter of “Nevermore” about the true power of Necromancers and where it came from I thought I’d simplify the idea to share the lore of it here with you guys! But before we get into it, spoiler warning if you haven’t read this story or the original/old fanfics about Owen, aka “The Grimoire” and “Ravenheart.”
Nevermore: https://www.fanfiction.net/s/14102184/1/Nevermore
The Grimoire: https://www.fanfiction.net/s/12409238/1/The-Grimoire
Ravenheart: https://www.fanfiction.net/s/12742285/1/Ravenheart
Alright, now if you’re sure about this let’s get started!
The basic idea is this:
The Veil, aka what the Ghost Zone was originally called, once overlapped the Earth directly but not many people could perceive ghosts let alone interact with them or vice versa apart from magically gifted or psychic people. So it was more like the classic spirit world we see used in most horror stories where only ghosts with strong emotions or other evil entities could slip through into the real world to cause problems.
Back then, ghosts didn’t have physical forms which means that even moving objects, turning visible, or communicating with anyone in the real world took a lot of energy to do so normally only the most determined ghosts/spirits would bother going through all that trouble unless they REALLY wanted something...
Tumblr media
However, long ago Lilith, the Mother of Demons, vowed that if she could not become the divine mother to mankind then she would rule over the dead and made it her personal mission to capture and corrupt as many souls as she could to create Wraiths out of the darkness in their hearts. And since ghosts are typically anchored to the Earth by their unfinished business or feelings of loneliness, hate, sadness, and whatnot they're much more susceptible to her dark magic than the living are in most cases.
That’s why Death made the ultimate sacrifice to stop her once and for all by completely tearing The Veil away from the Earth to protect the spirits of the dead along with the rest of humanity, thus banishing her and her Wraith’s to the void that formed between the two realities. In other words, a realm that came to be known as the Nevermore where neither ghost powers nor human advantages work.
Tumblr media
Death used the last of his power to give a select number of humans a portion of his power to help guide ghosts and other spirits which he also gave the means to defend themselves by altering their nature so they could use the raw ecto-energy he unleashed to attack their enemies as well as create new bodies for themselves. Still, almost every ghost still feels a natural pull towards the Earth where remnants of the old Veil remain. Not to mention many of them still feel the need to draw their energy from the living. And lastly, since the Veil was torn away so suddenly, there are places all over the Earth where the barrier between the real world and the Ghost Zone is thin. Especially in haunted places where natural ghost portals often form.
As for the Nevermore, it’s loosely based on Butch’s idea of an Unworld which is the same thing, a void between worlds where ghost powers don’t work and I just renamed it to the Nevermore. And before you ask, this is WAY before the Wednesday show on Netflix was a thing. Owen’s story has a lot of raven symbols which obviously made me think of Edgar Allen Poe’s poems which I’m sure inspired the name of the school in that show too but I digress! Anyways, the point is I thought that’d make a great prison for extremely dangerous creatures of darkness that even ghosts know to fear, aka Lilith and her soul-snatching Wraiths.
It’s extremely rare but sometimes when two large domains collide in the Ghost Zone small portals into the Nevermore can appear through the black hole similar to how natural ghost portals can form on Earth in certain places at random times. That’s why Lilith’s goal is to take over the Ghost Zone first and then unleash her army of Wraiths onto the living world to destroy humanity so that their souls will become her new children as well and she will rule them all as a Goddess of Death. And sadly Owen is the key to making that dream a reality which means she’ll need to bring him under her control first one way or another.

What kind of merchandise do you have there?
“Well that’s a loaded question.”
Edgar scans the gift shop, bright lights illuminating everything. It’s starting to get dark out, and he’s doing the closing shift while Colette is out Brawling.
“I mean, like, we’ve got just about everything. Replicas, promotional stuff, snacks, creepy-cutesy masks of brawlers...” He shudders slightly, he never liked the masks.
“The interesting stuff isn’t out in front, that’s for sure. Copies of outfits, bat lamps, plushie Spikes, and other boring knockoff merch. Gift shop stuff, yknow?” He looks at the door, knowing nobody was gonna come in this late except maybe his boss, and his eyebrows furrow for a split second.
“Actually...” The laptop is picked up and he carries it to a dark room, setting it down on the floor (?). “Lights...there!” The dim lights of the back room flicker slightly before deciding to stay on and Edgar picks up the laptop again.
He chuckles dryly. “All the good stuff is back here. Don’t tell my boss I showed you this though, he’d kill me. Or, try at least.” He pushes a box out into the center of the room and opens it up, pulling a few things out.
“The bat lamps out there are cheap plastic and LEDs, but the Park made a few heavy duty metal ones, probably as spares for Mortis. Then you’ve got the trinkets based on newer brawlers, keychains and whatnot.” He holds up a small keychain, with a plastic model of Colette’s scrapbook. “Like this. They’re pretty cool from a distance, but when you look closely you can see all the marks and flaws. Like with people.”
Tumblr media
He digs through the box some more. “Oh, we have replica shirts and outfits back here too, though I think they’re also spares. Colt’s Sci-Fi costume, Challenger or something, the eyepatch to Shelly’s Bandita constume...oh neat, a Surge action figure. Didn’t know this was here.” As he takes the items out and lists them off, he holds them up to the camera to show them to whoever was on the other side.
Tumblr media
“We’ve got pins and stuff too, and-” His speech cuts off sharply, and his brow furrows. He rips something out of the box, and stomps over to the trashcan, hurling it into the receptacle. He huffs and walks back over, taking a deep breath. “And pins. Lots of pins. There’s even one of me here.” He holds up a cartoony pin of himself, hands trembling slightly from his angered outburst.
Tumblr media
“I need to close up shop for the night though. Thanks for sending that in I guess.”

THE POKEMON AU, because listen i’m a trendy kid ( also i was talking about this with @fateclipse / @lovedreaming & @accurseddawn / @interpoldirector ). ft. bratty kalosian prince adam, but he has a better head on his shoulders than lysandre thank god ( & because i’m That Guy(tm) , i’m definitely just going to tie this to headcanons from @ofthelightning — good times on that blog yikes i do miss writing ghet at times... )
being the spare heir meant he could do whatever he wanted. his elder brother was hellbent on a new world, his father had broken both his sons in different ways. one chose to invent, to carve the path to a new world, the other chose to see all that was beautiful in the world that was. as time went on, adam grew to resent his father & older brother, remaining at parfum palace after his father’s death. he could’ve cared less about where his brother went; if he was so blind as to ignore that which was already beautiful, then to hell with him. death was not beautiful, adam knew that — lysandre did not. to occupy his time, adam found pleasure traveling the world. he traveled to sinnoh, learning of pokemon contests, where a trainer got to show off their talent alongside the talent of their pokemon, but not in the same manner as a battle ( battles were too brusque, adam preferred elegance & contests were perfect ). he swept the contests with ease, elegance came as naturally as breathing & he was still a prince, whether he wished to associate with his family or not.
he returned here & there to kalos, participating in battles at the battle chateau & avoiding the fiasco caused by FLARE as much as he could. when he thought of relocating to another region, he received news that his brother had died in an act of madness. left the sole survivor of his line, he left most of the responsibility of running the country to the league, as that was how most regions were managed ( save unova, still ruled over by the harmonia family as it had been for millennia ). with responsibilities out of the way, adam kept up his carefree & incredibly hedonistic lifestyle, blinded to any possible consequences by youthful arrogance.
notes. the team, as follows.
Tumblr media
altaria was a gift from his mother, he raised her since he was about six; she has the most contest awards as she’s most often the partner pokemon he takes. milotic was a gift, he’s a bit temperamental, but so is adam lbr. sylveon was an eevee that adam found in the rose garden once, she’s playful & friendly to literally everyone he meets. he also trained gardevoir from ralts, since ralts is said to be able to sense emotions, he’s almost sure that she showed up because he was a lonely & sad kid.
adam’s issue is loving other people, not pokemon.
he absolutely has made a fuckton of rivals in contests, he’s such a fucking brat.
every goddamn show, he makes a point to just outdo EVERYONE; the worst part is he’s The Guy(tm) who just has the coordinator talent that comes naturally, which everyone is jealous of. why couldn’t he be talented & nice, no he’s a fuckin vain asshat.
he uses contests & whatnot as an escape from the grief he feels in kalos, as well as a way to suppress all the trauma from his childhood. his father wanted two sons who valued beauty? well, this is how adam’s expressing it.
