Hey! I’ve been looking at your art for awhile, and I absolutely love the way you draw bodies! The characters always look so fluid and lively. Would you ever consider dropping a tutorial?
Thank you!! Im not that great at verbalizing my process, but here’s some things i try to keep in mind!
Focus on the gesture+silhoutte of the pose for the initial sketch, i usually use a chunky marker brush to fill out the initial silhouette and use a thinner one to refine the sketch later
Using reference photos such as photos or creating your own (i personally use magicposer when I struggle finding an exact pose im looking for, personally consider the subscription worth it), helps a lot with trickier perspective shots and anatomy
Something I’ve internalized from artists i admire is to try sketching/lining the pose in as little strokes as possible. It forces you to be more dynamic/flexible with each line and helps a lot with readability
It’s alright to forgo realism in order to convey more dynamism/liveliness! chunky rectangular fingers my beloved
Since I’m not great with tutorials i think ill just include the timelapse i did of my Florian piece that showcases the general rules i try to abide by above, but this is just something that works for me personally and i definitely dont have any authority or art degree to tell anyone how to art lol
Just wanted to mention this to someone who does art and get their opinion on it:
Sometimes I see some artists do redraws of their old artworks or characters and think "Wow, uh... their older art looks better." Sometimes it's only mildly better, but other times it's vastly better. Like the Upgrade, Go Back! meme.
I understand that art skills are supposed to develop and change, hopefully for the better, but sometimes it just feels like they got... worse? Somehow? Idk. Maybe it's because they were copying another artist's style while finding their own, and it's their own style that doesn't vibe with me? Just curious what your thoughts are about this.
Also, your art has consistently been great, so this isn't directed at you.
I do see this on occasion yeah! usually (in my experience anyway) its because people take a sharp turn towards a stylization that either isn't to your or most people's tastes, or that they don't understand or are still developing. switching up how you stylize your art is like starting over in a sense, you're changing from what you have practice with and that's always going to cause you to revert some as you have to re-learn things you understood in your previous style. i had a pretty big style shift in 2014 when i took up the basis for how my art looks now, and i remember feeling like some of the stuff i was drawing might have looked better if i was using my older style instead. that's something artists just have to push through and figure out, and they'll likely come out of it a better artist than they were before. constructive critiques are a good way for them to figure out why their art might not be as "good" as it used to be, if they're open for those.
art is not always a linear journey, and i would also say things like passion and motivation have a part in it too. feeling inspired sparks you to make something the best it can be, if you're not feeling it (and esp if that feeling lasts for a long time) it'll leave you making decisions you otherwise would not have let fly, and that can result in worse art. and some of it is just personal preference! it's not that their art is better or worse, it's just different now, and maybe that doesn't vibe with you the same way their old stuff did. and that's fine 👍
(thank you! :3 i admittedly struggle a bit with Not Feeling It sometimes like i just described, so it's nice to know people still enjoy what i make when that feeling hits.)
chiluc has an appeal to me that chaeya simply lacks. i know that in both cases its a bit of a crackship situation because they have like zero canon interactions as far as im aware but. with chiluc it feels thematically fitting + i am convinced they met each other during diluc's snezhnaya days + even if they didn't meet face to face they have to be at least aware of each other (fatui harbinger? other guy is banned from the country? for hunting the fatui too much? they SO know each other) and what's more homoerotic than two sworn enemies? VERY few things. it's not something i ship for cutesy established relationship fluff i dont think that could ever work. i dont even want it to be a Relationship. they definitely had something going on though and it was a hatelove thing. anyways now chaeya feels so bland to me. i dont see how their stories cross at all (perhaps a connection to the abyss if im willing to make a stretch, which i kinda am not) and i like kaeya too much to submit him to a relationship with tartaglia. to be honest i even have the chaeya tag filtered out on my ao3 search tab because its really boring to me. that being said if you see me reblog chaeya fanart mind your business im not immune to pretty art
Ahhhh was so excited for the excuse to draw my Linky boy thank you anon TvT I'm sorry if this wasn't what you were looking for, was trying to think of how to change things up for him since he's already a littol creature but akdk ended up going with a swap- him instead of Zelda as Nayru's chosen <3
You’re giving us more hints about Gustavo’s past but there is no answer!! I’m gluing together what it could be but idk if I’m correct
*Evil laughs in the distance*
Here I’ll give ya’ a little hint!
You know how Gus is so afraid of the Pizzards, (I think I might’ve said this but I’ll say it again 🤷♀️) The Pizzards did something DESPICABLE. They really harmed Gus, AND the other gnomes.
He wants to stay away from them as much as possible… They poor thing….
