So I've got a few projects in mind for 2020. Last year was great and all, but on reflection I tried to do too many different things and burnt out... ending up creating things with no love. 🖤 I've spent my Christmas break thinking over where I want to take orangefruitcake art in the future, and pondering which creations actually bring me peace and joy. 💜 One of my projects for this year will be developing this style of work. It's a style I worked in a lot as a student and dabbled in again a little last year, but not to my full artistic potential. today’s art....it is funny, as an artist I have gone thru a number of phases where I liked my “painting” (in quotes because current piece is a digital painting but technology allows me to use fairly accurate texture of how the paint and brushes interact) to be super smooth and blended seamlessly, to my current phase, on actual canvas or digital, where I am very much enjoying what the brush strokes look like and how they add depth to the shapes and colors ( yep, that is all art is, shapes and colors, make the right shapes and colors next to each other and you get sunflowers). Anyway...i am definitely in a textured phase 🙂. And here's why I am an Alla prima painter. This is for day 2 of the #30daypaintingchallenge. I didn't get to finish a painting I started about a month ago. So I decided to finish this one for day 2. It's a 14" x 11" on canvas. The trouble I have is that when I'm putting new strokes on top of older brushstrokes, the texture under the brush throws me off. My brush hits a bump and then loses its trajectory, energy and flow. So then I decided to try just filling in areas of colour, like a colouring book, or stained glass window. Always keep exploring. This was fun. I tried some glazing techniques too, mixing transparent paints with medium. But it was night and my bulbs make things appear more colourful than they are in natural light. They are high CRI studio lights too. This looked better under the lights. In natural light the colour isn't as vibrant. Hmm. Finding good lighting has proven to be challenging. But, onwards we go.
