First time trying a big piece on procreate, i’m glad I went for a monochrome so I could work on my (non existent) shadows skills. I don’t draw scenes like this very often even on traditional media so I’m quite happy with how it turned out.

Stop whitewashing Holly Short

I feel like I have to have this talk somewhere outside my head.

I, a 14 year old teenager of color, have always loved Holly Short.

She was described as powerful, with features like a hooked nose, and a dark skin, that made her beautiful. Things that I have always been insecure about, teased for, insulted for, were what made her beautiful.

The powerful woman, who fought sexism and always did the right thing, IMMEDIATELY became my comfort character.

I started to feel better about myself. Draw portraits with my favourite features in my self exaggerated in them. I loved my own features, because she had them.

And then, after reading the whole series and loving it, came the thirst for content. Content in wich, Holly Short, was always whitwashed.

So many fanart, official comics, covers, the goddamn movie! In all of them, Holly wasn't how i imagined her to be. The fact punches me every time. Her skin, her features, are FLAWS that people just prefer to erase from her character.

I still remember how sad i got when i first was raving to a friend about Holly and she said 2 my face how she thought she would be prettier if she were white.

Whitewashing Holly is basically saying the same thing.

Many may go, "whatever, who gives a shit about her color".

But things like this are what make teenagers, kids, like me back at the time, insecure and hating themselves because of simply simply being born the way they are born.

Incredibly frustrating and disagreeable but also vitally necessary little creatures with important but annoying skills.

And you hate this awful little thing, it’s so infuriating and it just REFUSES to cooperate, it knows that you need it and it uses that to charge astronomically high prices.

But you have to be nice to it, cause if you aren’t, not only will it hike up it’s already ridiculous prices, but the Indestructible, freakishly strong and fast GIANT that follows it around and seems to spawn out of nowhere will SMITE YOU air you so much as flick the annoying little shite.

Here's my art that Pisces_Pixie on Ao3 made a fanfic based on for the concept of Artemis getting permanently scarred by the troll in the first book, and having to live with his face disfigured for the rest of them. I'm not tagging this as gore because it's art of a scar, people can just have those. Also that would be super ironic

Not sure whether my version of Artemis would still die in the last book. There are a few changes that I would make if I was writing the story, but Pisces did a fantastic job with their preferred version of events

Artemis fowl, post book 8 could totally kill macbeth right?

Well... from what I can tell, what happens is that Artemis dies, has a clone made of his body, and his soul is magically transferred into that new body, which normally we would say does not count towards the Unconventional Birth Clause, but... he also lost his memories, which very much complicates things.

I couldn't find any information on how Artemis views himself after this; if he still considers himself to be Artemis Fowl II, just not remembering the events of the story, then he's definitely disqualified, but if he remembers NOTHING and considers himself a whole new person (like with Mollymauk Tealeaf, whom we've covered before), then he would qualify for the UBC.

Artemis doesn't seem to fit the criteria for the other Clauses, either, so I'm going to put a pin in this one for now. If someone who knows these books (specifically the BOOKS, not the film adaptation) better than I do could shed some light on this situation and disambiguate this for us, I would greatly appreciate it.
