"I thought I had made myself clear, but in case I have not, allow me to reiterate. If you wish for me to remain Ithicana's King, then Lara will be my Queen. If you demand she leave, then I will go with her." Jerking a knife from his belt, he drew it across his palm, then squeezed his fist, blood dripping onto the map laid across the table's centre. "On my blood and honor, where Lara goes I go. Even if it's to the fucking grave."
Dying over this new Lara and Aren content from the upcoming Bridge Kingdom novella!

I LOVED the bridge kingdom, but I was kind of unsatisfied with the ending. Like I wanted more of a discussion/resolution between Lara and Aren if that makes sense. If you wanted to write a lil fix it 👀
Okay, I was planning to write this after reading Inadequate Heir, but the preorder incentive The Calm Before the Storm is literally this, I might see if I can come up with a follow-up to that, maybe return to Midwatch, or more distant future post-war. Watch this space!

The Bridge Kingdom, The Traitor Queen & The Calm Before the Storm *spoilery*
TBK:
"...it felt like Lara had been with him all his life."
I could not stop reading this book!! I really didn't expect that I would love it so much and get addicted.
Aren and Lara are just incredible! One of my favorite ships without a question. Aren is caring for her from the beginning, even when his feelings intensify over time. Since the beginning he showed decency and that he is a good man. Also Lara is amazing. I don't have any words, I just really like them as a couple!
There is also so much moral, like Ithicana is NOT innocent at all.
There is literally only one big flaw which I change for myself and that is the tavern scene. For me that girl is just a spy and a friend for him and no one he had something with. Because Aren says/thinks from the beginning that instead of making Lara feel forced he would prepare a cold bed, meaning he would never betray his wife. And he also says there will never be anyone. And that tavern scene was gross and disgusting. Have no idea why someone would write that but yeah. Also, he is busy and a prince in war, I imagine he didn't have time and is the type to mess around, aka he might be virgin too, if we remove that tavern fact.
Since the beginning he showed decency and that he is a good man, except for that part.
Anyway, I changed that instead of hating anything and I really love Aren and Lara and the book!
TTQ:
"Awake or asleep, all I see is your face. All I here is your voice. All I feel is you in my arms. All I want is you."
I would recommend writing or reading fanfic or fix-fic instead.
All the bad reviews make sense now and I agree with TBK Fans: We will ignore this book.
I am not one for bad reviews but this book is really really bad.
I like that books are indivudal to everyone. You can ignore/change stuff. But TTQ is just bad.
In the first book Aren is incredible. He is decent, kind and respects Lara. Although he suspects and even later when he finds out she is a spy. (The only thing I change in TBK is the tavern scene. For me that girl is just a spy and a friend for him and no one he had something with. He is busy and a prince in war, I imagine he didn't have time and is the type to mess around, aka he is virgin too). Other than that the first book is just amazing and Aren is as good as perfect.
In the second book though he is like someone completely different. There are many flaws in the second book, but the two worst: The pillory part and of course how he leaves her on that island.
That part alone is the worst. I like to imagine he leaves her, but instead saying those inacceptable things he says in the book, he tells her he leaves because he doesn't want her in more danger. She is already been through enough hurt and it hurts him too to see her like this. That he will fight and come back to her once the battle is over. That he loves her and won't leave her, because she will always be his wife and the only woman!
And he protects her against Jor and anyone else, saying "Lara is my wife, you beter watch out how you speak! She will stay Ithicana's Queen."
Alone that could redeem the book a bit if you ask me.
I fully respect the effort of the Authors writing and that she introduced us with Aren and Lara, but I just want to be honest with my opinion.
TCBTS:
"You are so beautiful. ... The world pales in your presence."
"Vote as to whether you wish us both on the throne or not."
"I swear allegiance to Aren and Lara Kertell. Long may they rule Ithicana."
Some many good quotes in this one!
I have to say, I am glad this book exists, since leaving us only with the horrific ending in TTQ would have been very unsatisfying.
In this book, Aren is super caring and there is no doubt he would choose her above anything else, which he also states.
Was very nice reading them happy together and seeing the real Aren again.
Lara broke my heart since we can see here again that she just had such a sad life.
Also, about my statement he could be virgin: In this book there is a scene where Jor ... makes something for Aren and Lara and states he has that knowledge since he had many women in his life and that he wonders why Nana didn't give Aren and Lara that advice. Meaning Aren is not really experienced. Which gives my imagination free pass to believe he might have dated or kissed but never more. It is not the first time a story changes things that happened in the beginning. I believe sometimes Writers also change their views and mind.
Lara saves a child at the end which suddenly makes everyone in Eranhal forgive her... which is weird since she SAVED ALL OF THEM AND STOPPED THE WAR before. But yeah...
Aren and Lara's story as main characters ends with this book, but it is stated that they will play parts and have cameos in the fourth book!
