We get to hear a little from Arcturus, just because I can't have enough Blacks whispering their opinions in my ear.

She’s scowling at Cygnus, eyes barely visible under her dropping eyelids.

“Master shouldn’t yell at Tesuth!” she hisses, snatching Cygnus’ cup away. “Tesuth is old, and she has a headache. If Master doesn’t like the tea-”

“It’s not tea, you cretin! You made me coffee, and you know how I despise-

“Then Master shall drink nothing!”

“Cygnus!” Arcturus warns him, when Cygnus looks ready to blast Tesuth into different pieces. He always was a violent man, this one. Quick to anger.

Cygnus settles, Tesuth leaves, mumbling. Arcturus takes a sip out of his cup. It is, at least, good coffee.

“Forget the elf. Are you certain about Sirius?”

Cygnus stares after Tesuth, murder in his eyes. “I obviously didn’t see for myself, he's not stupid enough to wear it in my presence. But Yaxley told me he wears the ring at all times. When I asked Lucius, he pretended not to hear, and that in itself means it’s true.”

Arcturus turns his head, slightly, to watch the dead garden. Oh, how Orion must suffer.

“Yaxley says Sirius is far too familiar with Voldemort, that they smile at each other, that he gets preferential treatment above all others, even Bellatrix.”

Sirius always was lovable. Since he was born, he was everyone’s favourite. Even Arcturus’ father, a harsh, stern man that never once hugged his children, never had a kind word for them, would often lift Sirius up, tickle him, place him on his lap, whispering all sort of inappropriate things in his ear.

Tom Riddle is a creature, an aberration far from human, yet even it is not immune to Sirius’ charm, apparently.

“And this never happened before?”

“No. Voldemort never paid anyone so much attention.”

“Bella-”

“It’s different,” Cygnus insists. “It’s different with Bella. He is fond of her, but this? He gave Sirius his family ring! When he talks of Sirius, he looks- I have never heard that man speak this way of anyone. Not even at school. Oh, and he very much enjoys speaking of Sirius, asks questions about him, useless things that can be of no use in war.”

“Is it aware of the significance of giving away his signet ring?” Perhaps the animal doesn’t know, what with its terrible upbringing.

“Yaxley alluded that they have an…intimate relationship,” Cygnus sneers. “And, I must say, if Sirius is wearing the Gaunt ring, then- yet I didn’t suspect Sirius finds men appealing. Quite the opposite. As bad as-” he trails off, before he can say ‘Orion' and risk Arcturus’ displeasure. “It’s not something I would accuse Voldemort of, usually, but I am starting to wonder if he…gave Sirius something.”

“Unlikely.”

Riddle has never resorted to bedding anyone to reach its goals. And it was handsome, back in the day, filth disguised by aristocratic features. Yet it never had a lover, not one Cygnus or Yaxley or Arcturus could find, at least.

“But Sirius is- he never shied away from his affairs, he has no shame; if he liked men, surely we’d have heard about it. Especially when he was with those tolerant morons.”

Sirius was, indeed, interested in girls, since he was alarmingly young.

But not many knew about that boy, that Rosier. Arcturus would not have found out either, if not for Walburga, who came to complain to him.

“Orion doesn’t seem to care, but you should. I don’t want Sirius turning into Alphard. Talk to him, or do something about it.”

Walburga was always so dramatic. It was obvious to anyone else that they would have no trouble marrying Sirius off, that he most likely would give House Black many children, what with his appetites. If he kept some male company outside of it, it wouldn’t have been the end of the world. But she made such a scene, Orion confessed, when Arcturus asked about it- and no one could throw a fit quite like Walburga. No doubt, she traumatised Sirius, like she traumatised him in so many different ways, to the point where Sirius was never seen even looking at a boy.

“What does Bellatrix think about it?” Another crazy one, prone to rage. So much like Walburga is as if she were her daughter.

Arcturus hears she killed Sirius’ previous woman, in a fit of jealousy. If only she would kill Riddle, too, driven by that same undue possessiveness over her cousin.

Sirius wanted to wed her, but Orion learned from his own mistakes and forbade it. Even Walburga was against it, and she adored Bellatrix back then.

“She’s in denial,” Cygnus huffs. “She refuses to talk about it. She insists that Voldemort gives tokens of affection to his most loyal, that he gave her something, too. Yet I told her this is not some vase, it’s a family ring. She said ‘her lord’ doesn’t put any value in our ‘stupid traditions’ and is probably unconcerned with the significance.”

Arcturus snorts. That could be. But- “Sirius is certainly aware of the implications. And yet he is wearing the ring.”

So... I initially misread the Black Men in the Bedroom question as Ballroom and therefore, I feel compelled to ask about your thoughts on the Black family men (and others, if you so desire) in the Ballroom.

Regulus - very rigid, very formal. He knows all the steps to all the standard ballroom dances and practices them religiously alone in his room at night. Without music. He's just up in his room dancing with an imaginary partner in absolute silence. He can dance passably well, but he's stiff and absolutely cannot improvise.

Sirius - really good dancer. Knows the proper ballroom dance moves, but thinks they're stuffy and boring and likes to shake things up. Intuitive and able to match his partner's energy. Likes doing borderline dangerous dance moves.

Orion - does not dance unless he absolutely has to. The last time anyone has seen him dance was at his own wedding. He can dance quite well, but he won't.

Arcturus - won awards for his ballroom dancing in his youth.

Alphard - terrible dancer. Absolutely appalling. No one wants to be his dance partner, he is always out of step. He loves dancing though and is really eager to get people to dance with him.

Cygnus - fairly good at dancing, but finds it so frustrating to watch Alphard cheerfully make a fool of himself on the dance floor, that he will avoid the ballroom altogether unless Alphard isn't around.

And just for fun: Walburga - flawless, impeccable dancer. Mesmerizing to watch. She rarely dances either but when she does it's impossible not to fall at least a little bit in love with her.

The House of Black as animals

Pollux, the buffalo

Buffalos are powerful and majestic, but they are also known for their stubborn, unpredictable and forceful nature.

Walburga, the hawk

Hawks are focused and determined. They have a keen sense of observation. They can be solitary and majestic.

Orion, the bullfinch

Bullfinches are gentle and tranquil. Along with its shy and peaceful nature, its call is relatively soft and muted; quite indistinct.

Arcturus, the lion

Lions are majestic and proud, often associated with strength and courage. However, they can be prone to anger and aggression, particularly when their authority or control is challenged.

Lucretia, the orange cat

Orange cats are considered friendly and outgoing, more so than other cats. They may be more likely to engage in risky behaviors.

Regulus, the fox

Foxes are known for their cleverness and adaptability. They can be shy and elusive, displaying a mix of curiosity and caution.

Sirius, the German Shepherd

German Shepherds are known for their loyalty, intelligence, and versatility. They can be protective and devoted to their families.

Cygnus, the Domestic Shorthair

When I tell you I woke up and screamed, that I had a big stupid smile on my face, I'm not lying. I texted my friends, and I took a screenshot. I was giggling and kicking my feet like a schoolgirl.

Oh, this is a lovely loaded question, anon! I have the urge and need to yap about my children because I love them so much. For now I only want to talk about the oc that I use the most because I am so familiar with him and he swims around in my brain until something new crosses my sights.

before i get into talking about Arcturus Black:

"how & why did you come up with them?"

Not to sound 'cringe' or 'weird' I typically come up with an original character if I either want to be inserted into that universe, or there is a character I really like that I want to interact with. They start out as self-inserts but over time develop their own personalities and lore. And this could go for any fandom I'm in.

Arcturus Black is one of my HP oc's whom I've fallen in love again with this HP revival. (idk how I got back into this fandom)

*p.s. I will not watch the new series on MAX because I absolutely despise JK Rowling and her writing is shit anyway

To say it bluntly, I like Regulus Black, specifically the Regulus Black whom we know nothing about. Not the fandom girliepopification of Regulus Black. He was a Quidditch player for Slytherin, joined the Death Eater's young, betrayed Voldemort because he messed with Kreacher.

I uphauled my previous Harry Potter oc and wanted to make another one because I was a Hufflepuff and had landed on giving Regulus Black a son because I had seen a lot of people give Sirius Black children. I thought I was being cool and quirky straying from what other people do. Thus the idea for Arcturus was born.

He was tall, he had dark hair he could tie up, his eyes reminded me of the moon, he barely smiled, he hid behind books, he avoided people. Arcturus quickly became my pride and joy because I loved his personality, I loved his lore, I loved the angst specifically.

Being upset because his uncle, Sirius, preferred Harry over him and even avoided him in some cases. Sirius died in the Ministry thinking Arcturus hated him, the boy that looked almost uncannily like his brother. Fucking- He's a lil shit/pos

He has a friend group consisting of Severinus Lyall (to be yapped ab later), Luna Lovegood, and Neville Longbottom. I like to call the four of them Four Corners because Arcturus is a Hufflepuff, Neville and Gryffindor, Luna a Ravenclaw, and Severinus a Slytherin. They are his closest friends, but there are times he would rather curl up with a good book. Outsiders often mistake him looking at his book as not paying attention whenever one of his friends are talking, but he pays attention even with his face buried in a book.

Did I mention he has a crush on Neville?

He is fucking whipped for Neville Longbottom, just as I am whipped for Neville Longbottom. Dare I say more?

JkJk I will say more. Arcturus denies ever having feeling for Neville in the first place because he's afraid of those feelings. He's afraid of what other people will say. He doesn't know himself well enough to trust those feelings, mainly he's just scared his feelings are filling the void in him cause he has no idea who his dad is.

He's protective of his friends, protective of Neville. He fights for the people who stood by him when everyone else doubted him. He cherishs his friends. They are his support system when he is at Hogwarts.

The disconnect with the Black family name because he didn't grow up with anyone, the hatred of who he is because everyone already assumes the worst of him. I mean, I've planned for Arcturus to have a whole arc to himself about wanting to understand himself and wanting others to understand him because so many people choose to think they already know who he is just because of his name.

And I can relate to him, so much. I can relate to not feeling like I understand myself, or that I'm even more isolated from my already small family, its why I love him so much.

The only reason why I don't think he's a self insert completely is because with writing, everyone puts a piece of themselves in it. In whatever they create, the artist breathes life of their own into their creation. Sure, Arcturus isn't my only oc but he was the one I wanted to talk about because I use him more than the others. I have quite a few that I could talk about but they aren't as feral on the brain as Arcturus is. I'm writing a new fic with him, I'm developing him more. (the fic is a sequel, you should check it out/j)

Okay, I didn't exactly try to sit down and write this in one go, nor did I really have a list or uniform information about Arcturus. I don't exactly write things down about my ocs, instead end up telling my irl friends random blurbs about them whether I have an idea involving fanfiction or not. Honesty, I should do that Meet the Character Monday thing...

Behind the scenes of my fanfic #16

Everything that’s happening in this fanfic, scenes including the adults and not having any of the main cast, Or just seemingly bizarre little facts is something I’ve always wanted to see in fanfic but never did so I decided to do it myself. Like I want to look into the inner politics of the wizard in the world and yeah you get it in Harry Potter stories were Harry becomes Lord Potter and goes and gets his seats and does politics, but I wanted to see it as adults doing it and not a 16-year-old doing it. I wanna see Arcturus black getting in an argument with someone about laws, I want to see Fleamont Potter (because in my story the potters are part of that) slaying someone with his words over the legality of a potion. I want some random lady or Lord to gossip about Walburga’s sanity while others are trying to listen to a law and decide if it should be enacted.

Or I wanna hear tidbit conversation between Walburga and her “Friends” just to show she’s just as terrible person as she is in private. I created a whole wand shop in Nocturn alley and a character I’m never probably gonna use again because I was wanted another one shop to compete and that dark wizards would go to because I don’t know world building I guess.

Basically I want Extremely detailed fanfics that explores not just the world of the main characters they put themselves in or I put them in but also the outside world in that fic. I want Effie and Monty to not just be James’ parents Who we only hear about in the summer. I want Them to be fully develop characters. I wanna know more about the black family outside of what Orion and Walburga are like. Or the fact that the family is full of incest which I thought was researching they married outside of the family a lot, the only ones that didn’t seem to be not married outside the family were Orion and Walburga.

I also wanted to include Dorea and Charlus Potter because Before we knew James’ parents were Effie and Monty, a lot of fanfics had that Dorea and Charlus were his parents. And when we found out Effie and Monty were his parents we never saw Dorea or Charlus ever mentioned again in relation to any of the Potters
