Don’t cry because it’s over, cry because it’s a pandemic

Day 7 of my quarantine, I got excited today thinking I only have 7 days left but then I realised the whole world is in isolation, there is still no end in sight and I will not be able to walk out these doors to embrace my friends and family that I haven’t seen in years.

This is not the reunion I invisioned, I imagined laughter, tears, hugs and tender embrace, celebrations and sharing stories. I cry and cry some more. I miss my life and my friends in Canada, so many loose ends left to unravel.

I know this is just the beginning however it feels like the end.

Put Your (Monopoly) Money Where Your Mouth Is!

So, you might think I am crazy by the time you get to the bottom of the post but bare with me...its totally worth it. You have heard the phrase, “Put your money where your mouth is”. Like, you say your a tough guy prove it. The phrase itself can be traced to late 1890′s and onward, usually used in reference to poker games or used by institutions to start banking amongst the masses. 

What does this phrase have to do with me, and even more than that...monopoly? Well, me and my sister often “bet” on something. But really who has enough money to bet on everything they “bet” on...like “he’s going to be late I bet you”. Before recently, I would “bet imaginary dollars” on the bets. My cousin then pops up and says, she and her bf trade this one particular dollar in bets. I come up with the idea of using extra monopoly money to bet. I look it up on Amazon and I’m like...meh. I will keep an eye out for it. 

It works. I am at a dollar tree (which is no longer just a dollar per item but that is a rant for another post) looking for a card for my grandfather for his birthday and I see dollar versions of popular games...like Monopoly. So I pick up a couple. My sister counted it out and its like...$14,000 of money per box? They are adorable and tiny too. Everything in tiny format is usually adorable. I then found a briefcase (for holding business cards) to put it in and have it fit in a purse. 

So, just you can keep up....I went from betting imaginary dollars...to spending real dollars on fake monopoly dollars. To be housed in a mini brief case to use on bets I make in real life with my sister and cousin and friend. Yup. I told you I was crazy, but like the hot smart kind of crazy? LOL. 

We have even already made a bet. We were food shopping together, me and my sister, and I was noticing some number synchronicities on the receipts and I bet that the next stop would end in 69, a number I happen to love. I bet $1000M, she took the bet. We went to the next stop and the total ended in 67. I WAS OFF BY .02 CENTS, WHO THE HELL WOULD OF THOUGHT THAT WOULD OF HAPPENED? So I payed up. Two cents. Do you want my two cents on that miracle? HAHA. 

Regardless of the fact that I lost the first bet, there are going to be many more to come. And honestly, in general, I feel like people need to be putting more skin in the game...of life. I know I can remember not being into politics because I couldn’t vote. Now as an adult, I care because whatever wahoo is president affects me as a mostly functioning adult. Why wait for something, like for example politics, to matter to you before you even learn about it or get involved in some way? Put some skin in the game, get a bruise or two, but bulk up. Life is tough, but you are tougher if you let yourself be.
