So, I took the time to watch the Attack on Titan finale today.....
Tumblr media
I don't know why, because everyone keeps saying that the anime ending was a huge step up from the manga's ending. Jeez, has it really been three years since that dropped the ball?
So I decided I needed to see for myself what it really changed, I had the time so I forced myself through it, to see what exactly the big deal all was; mostly what was different, and what it did that was so far removed from the comic.
Well I gotta admit, I was surprised by what I saw.
The animation was really impressive, much better than what I've seen of MAPPA's handiwork from the rest of this season. The whole thing just kept going bigger and bigger, and it just never seemed to slow down. It's definitely one of the most impressive battles of the series, especially when so much focus on fighting and ending the Titans seemed to be lost after so long. Plus I forgot how stunning MAPPA's backgrounds can be, almost like WIT's. I guess that's what you call "peak" in the anime circle now, huh?
Tumblr media
Levi......What can I say, he's an absolute badass, and the battle was worth it just to see him plow through Eren's army of Titans in all of his glory. Nothing can slow this guy down, and he definitely earned his ending. Sure he lost everyone who was near and dear to him but at least he can finally get some measure of peace. A much better finish than what the manga gave us, in its own weird way.
Was surprisingly touching to see the fallen Scouts again btw. Should have had Marco somewhere for Jean's sake, but maybe they can finally move on to a better place, wherever that may be.
Tumblr media
Well the Armin and Eren scene pulled no punches, did it? XD Bad puns aside, I was surprised at how emotionally charged that scene was, Eren seemed really sorry for everything. At least he finally owned up to it in the end. Such a shame he was left with so little choice in the end.
Tumblr media
And really, I realized how hard I was on Mikasa. She knew the life she thought she and Eren could have was beyond all hope, and in the end she made the right choice, agonizing as it was. In the end Mikasa really was too good for Eren, theirs is a love that was tragically cut short by circumstance. He couldn't help it, she couldn't help it.......Eremika truly is an unsung Shakespearean tragedy.
Oh don't you worry Eren, I'm sure she was thinking of you well beyond ten years. Who could fault her? We all know you meant well....
Tumblr media
So........now everyone's saying it took two thousand years if not more for this to happen, huh? Well I guess that sort of makes up for it.....At least nobody we knew and loved lived to see it, right? I guess we can stop blaming Eren for whatever brought this upon Paradis, right?
Tumblr media
Well, whatever the case may be, after finally seeing it I can say the anime ending makes up for a lot of what the manga left hanging. Great animation, such raw emotions, the insane music.......It was a long slog, but I'm glad I was proven wrong about everything I have said since the manga ending came out. This really helped to tie everything together much better, made the loss of such a wondrous cast a little easier to swallow. In the end, they gave their hearts, and in the end, it's much better to feeling something than to feel nothing.
So kudos to Studio MAPPA, and kudos to Hajime Isayama, truly I underestimated you. I feel like seeing this animated opened my eyes to so much of what I thought was missing. Suddenly things are so much clearer. Now.......Now I understand.......Eren only did what had to be done. Well played Mr. Isayama, well played.
And with that, I just want to leave with a quick shoutout to the true GOAT of Attack on Titan..........
Tumblr media
.......

..................................
Tumblr media
AS IF, YOU BITCH.
Tumblr media
And that's the LEAST of what you deserve, you cunt rag.
That title belongs to THIS girl, right here.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
As if there were any force between heaven and earth in this world or the next that could EVER make me forget.....
Oh, one more thing........
....... .................. ................................

“I don’t know why” is not meant to reflect on why Eren did the rumbling. He was pondering over his very own nature, the reasoning behind his burning drive for freedom. It wasn’t meant to be taken literally, neither was Armin asking it. Just a genuine “why” as a last goodbye. NOT about the rumbling.

Post ch. 139 Levi Thoughts
I wonder how life would be for Levi after the war, like how would he cope with everything? He most definitely has ptsd and then there are his injuries, not to mention how he probably feels like all he could do was fight. I mean that’s all he’s been doing since he was a kid, and now? The war is over, the titans are gone, and he has to use a wheelchair most of the time, what is he supposed to do? He may be good at hiding it but in the end, he’s scared, what if he’s completely useless now? Almost everyone he knows is dead and he’s used to having a family unit of sorts, his independence is mostly gone right now it it will take a while to get it back, so what does he do? No matter what he chooses he’ll know in the back of his head that domestic life isn’t for him, he’ll know that he’s meant to fight, and he’ll question what is he if not a soldier?

AOT/SNK Chapter 139 - Ererei crumb
Chapter spoilers below
Tumblr media
I just want to say that out of everyone drawn here- Reiner is the only one who has his hand in frame. His face could’ve been the only thing in frame like the rest of the cast here. But no, we got his hand. His hand that's posedin enough of a way to potentially imply he and Eren had held hands one last time in Paths.
And wouldn't that be so poetic?
The hand posing could totally mean other spicier implications for our shipping benefits as well for sure. But also imagine the heart-breakingly softer implications of Reiner holding Eren’s face close and other very normal manly stuff.
It doesn’t help that he has the least words said in this translation so they honestly could’ve talked about anything. I know the alternative translation to Reiner’s words is him stating how much of a man Eren is. And honestly both add enough fire to my ererei sails to keep moving forward with this ship.

Levi: me and Onyankopon are going out to do some stuff, don't destroy the house you brats.
Falco: Yes sir!
Gabi: yeah, whatever, old man.
-- a few hours later --
Jean: What are the two of you doing?
Gabi and Falco: nothing?
Jean: While the captain is out? Why aren't you cleaning every single particle of dust??
Gabi: He didn't ask.
Falco: Is this some kind of silent rule?
Jean: YESS!

hc after chapter 139
pairing: connie springer x gn!reader
warnings: besides spoilers for aot!!! I don’t think so (english isn’t my first language)
author’s note: I really wanted to write how the life of some aot characters goes on after the manga ended. Connie’s epilogue is the first to go. This is just my opinion, but feel free to tell me how you think Connie’s life would be! If you want something like this for some other character feel free to request!
Tumblr media
at first, he would still live in paradis
even tho paradis holds so much pain for him, it’s also the place of his favorite memories
he would definitely live with his mum a few years. He lost her so early, he just wants to make up for everything both of them lost
at first he wouldn’t even think about starting a family or having any sort of intimate relationship
he‘s still this funny, bubbly guy but he has been scarred for life
he cherishes every moment he gets with his friends and with his mother that he doesn’t even think about what could be
he fought since he was a kid and never experienced a normal life with his friends and family up until now - so that’s what he focuses on
he’s still close to everyone but I think that Jean and Connie meet in a daily basis
but I think after 2-3 years he kind of yearns for someone
he sees Mikasa and Jean together, having their little family - and he wants that
he never experienced love like that
so when he finally met them, he felt that there was always something that was missing
and with them, he’s finally healing
a n x i o u s + n e r v o u s
he doesn’t know how to act beside them
is it ok to hold their hand? Do his scars bother them? Should he introduce them to Jean? Or is that to early? Does his past bother them? Do they think he’s scarred by his past and incapable of love?
yes, no connie, do what ever feels right for you, your past doesn’t define, connie you are capable of anything and your past doesn’t define you!
no matter how often they tell him this, he’ll still be anxious the first couple of weeks
he apologies after waking them up with his nightmares, but they assure him that they will always be by his side when he wakes up
I know that they’ll cook every meal Sasha loved on the anniversary of her death
they would also light a few candles under the picture Jean had drew for Connie of her
and they would visit the grave together and renew the flowers and clean the stone
they would ask Jean, Mikasa etc what she food she liked and will invite everyone to celebrate the life of Sasha Braus
and when Connie wakes up that day and sees all the food they cooked, he will definitely cry
“I know how much she meant to you and I never got to meet her so this is how I’ll show my love to her” - he instantly knows they’re his endgame
he would also leave paradis at some point with them, to make new memories at a new place

Attack on Titan MAJOR Manga Spoilers (Chp. 139)
- -
As an AoT fan of over 9 years, I have sat and processed the final chapter for almost a year now, and this is how I perceived the ending (Chp. 139).
Updated;; 10/01/22
- -
Eren did NOT activate the Rumbling for vengeance or revenge (obviously).
Eren had no choice but to commit the act of the Rumbling, even though he knew the Rumbling was wrong (as we saw him explaining to Armin in Chp 139, and when he expresses his hesitation abt it in panels while the scouts were in Marley in flashback panels). He knew that by pushing his friends away, committing such an abysmal act —The Rumbling, and actively attacking his friends, Mikasa would realize that there is no redemption for this, there will be no “let’s talk to Eren about this”. Coming to the realization that she has to be the one to end it- to kill Eren (Eren, learning that Mikasa is the answer to ending the curse, as he also explained to Armin in the paths. This is my guess, but Eren does mention in Chp 139 that "The possession of the Founder's power has made it so that there is no past or future, it all exists at once."
Tumblr media
So I'm unsure if Eren 100% knew Mikasa would be the one to kill him. I need to explore that thought more. Because a few pages later, Eren mentions that "Even If I didn't know that you'd stop me in the end, I think I still would have flattened this world." to Armin),
Tumblr media
Eren sacrificed himself to obtain freedom for his friends and their futures, ending the curse of Ymir. Pinning his friends as heroes of humanity and to the world.
Tumblr media
The curse of Ymir, being her traumatically tied to her abusive "lover" and dedicating her life and all her efforts to the original King Fritz, thus serving the royal bloodline. Mikasa was, of course, tied to Eren (by love). By killing her love and separating herself from him, Ymir is moved by Mikasa's resolve and is able to free herself from her 2,000-year-long slavery.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
By ending the curse, the reign of titans ends as well, since Ymir is no longer there to abide by the king's will, and won't be producing any more titans.
--
This leads me to the final page. A boy finds Eren’s grave tree (?)/a tree that looks similar to the one Ymir found. I believe Isayama is trying to convey the cycle of hatred in the human race through this panel, and how history is unfortunately bound to repeat itself (as we all saw through Paradis being bombed long after the Rumbling). No words, only visuals that inspire dread, fear of the unknown and acceptance that certain things just cannot change, that no matter how big the stone you throw is, the flow of the river cannot be changed forever. I really can't imagine a more fitting image to end AOT on.
Tumblr media
I had no idea how Attack on Titan was going to end. Isayama really had his work cut out for him, as bringing this epic tale to a conclusion is quite a feat. After following this story for 9 years, the story absolutrly had a satisfying conclusion to me.
I always had a thought in the back of my head that Mikasa was going to have a certain, significant role in the story at some point (not that she doesn’t throughout the story, but yeah).
Tumblr media
*gif of Milo from Atlantis shouting: “hAve i left anYTHING oUT?”*
I will write a thorough paper about my thoughts on the ending, complaints, things I am heartbroken over, things I loved, things i wish Isayama explored more, rating the arcs and etc, but this is just a short post of me getting my thoughts together.

Attack on Titan - Season 3 A predictably long commentary and an unnecessarily long pre-analysis of s4.
(*full manga spoilers. so many spoilers. ending spoilers. all the spoilers.)
-hmmm the op is on point and also very melancholy
-he iS SO EXTRA, eren is, even when his duty is cleaning he's all RAWR CLEANING ARGH KYAAA
-i love how aot is sometimes "we interrupt your regular slaughter and depression for a levi-loves-cleaning infomercial"
-i understand it's a 2019 production and therefore by default improved, but everything looks so much richer and detailed and i just HOW DO I SOAK IT ALL IN
-what i'm getting from the levi vs kenny sequences is that someone on the animation team really REALLY loves levi. as they should ofc
-i love the moment in the op when child eren bumps into teen eren, i love it. and i love all the eren-mikasa-armin moments.
-i suppose it'll never not hurt seeing eren in chains
-completely unrelated, but i want everyone to remember that paradis went from thinking they were the last of humanity to having to deal with an entire world of nations that are 100% set on exterminating them. and they have four years to adjust to this shocking change of mindset, and to history and politics that's been known to everyone else for hundreds of years, and deal with it accordingly. they are not equipped for this. they don't have the knowledge, experience or background to know how to handle this.
-in the manga i started squabbling with eren at this point, during his 'i should just die' arc, but the VA is so good that i just can't get irritated
-the worst girl in the world <3
-also the way the VA acts eren's "EAT ME!" breakdown in the cave reminds me so so much of ch.139 eren that it makes me smile. like, ah yes. i see it. i understand. my crybaby baby.
-HAHAHA, Historia "Sure, I'll be the queen," haaaa. took a step back from having levi terrorize her, did you now.
-keith shadis to eren: "the fire you lit in your heart will no doubt burn you to ashes outside the walls." what a fine day to cry over aot again.
-YOU CAN SEE SPECKS OF DUST FLOATING IN THE SUNLIGHT IN THE BACKGROUND WHAT! WHAT!!
-i enjoy eren and jean's bickering so much omg.
-i think i'll always have a soft spot for the night before shiganshina chapter bc of the manga. it was such a relief to read it at that point.
-MIKASA AND ARMIN SMILING IN THE BACKGROUND AS EREN AND JEAN BEAT EACH OTHER UP STOP I LOVE THEM
-eren to armin and mikasa: "but would it kill you guys to look out for me better?" i love that. i love that he just says that, that their bond is so deep that looking out for each other is their baseline.
-technically eren did see the world with armin... technically :')
-susume :') :'( . dude, the s3 animation is so well-made though
-ARMIN AND HIS BOOK MADE EREN REALIZE HE WASN'T FREE, ARMIN IS EREN'S VILLAIN ORIGIN STORY PART 2! (/joke)
-it's kinda amazing how mikasa and armin are both the people who know eren the best, AND how they are completely blindsided because of it. which makes sense - yes, they didn't question eren's depression, but they also didn't have eren's facts; they assumed he was in a state similar to theirs. they did live together day in day out after all, why would they assume eren was experiencing something entirely different than what they were, especially when he's never hidden things from them before?
-IT'S SO DAMN SATISFYING SEEING THEM FLY!
-ERWIN KILLS IT IN SHIGANSHINA ASFJDF
-i'm pumping my fist again with this op
-i randomly heard hiroshi kamiya's actual voice, and my genuine reaction was "???". how... how does he do levi's voice, h...
-i am once again flabbergasted that armin didn't put eren in his place through facts and logic on their time-skip fight. armin is literally like STOP THE PRESSES, WE'RE NEGOTIATING WITH BERTOLT FIRST in shiganshina, this isn't a post-colossus thing, it's just armin, and eren knows this full well. and yet once again it comes down to how blindsided armin and mikasa were. it’s almost like they trust eren so much that his words give them actual pause, like “is he right?”
-i know technically mikasa is beyblade number too, but i think the parallel is armin=erwin and jean=levi rn. bc jean tells armin, "i'm all right at reading situations, but i don't have the faintest idea how we can get out of this. we're still ultimately relying on you for a plan" and i think that's a very levi thing. only, levi would add piss and shit remarks for good measure.
-i can see why people call the shiganshina part of the anime peak and i haven't even reached the injection part yet.
-"GIVE UP ON YOUR DREAM AND DIE"
-daisuke ono kills it this season. he's magnificent.
-floch: "why am i alive?" me: to torture us post-time skip.
-dude this is so good, the animation and the VAs are killing it. also armin just sacrificed everything for eren, and legit post-time skip eren said 'hold my beer. you'll sacrifice your life for me? i'll give my life AND everyone else's too to save you, specifically (and a few other people)."
-aaah, eren knew armin first, then got to know mikasa, he's wearing The Scarf(TM), okay.
-levi's distress hits hard. dude THE VAs ARE KILLING IT.
-floch's right on the money though. the thing that defeats the titans *is* a demon of sorts, and he did survive to help do just that
-i love being reminded of eren's breakdowns and his expression during the breakdowns and i love how yuki kaji acts them out, they are exactly ch.139 eren (and this means a lot to me)
-double date in the basement~~~ (i'm sorry, idk what i'm saying, i'm sorry)
-yeah, basically, it’s all about the fact that nothing can stop violence. king fritz tried to stop violence through enforced/fake peace - didn’t work. talking it out wouldn’t work, deterrents wouldn’t work. eren tried to stop violence through violence - didn’t work (he secured his own goals for a time, but violence didn’t stop).
-why is aot so good? :')
-eren is such a good friend to armin, ffs (yes, yes, s4. i don't believe his friendship or the depth of it changed at all though, i don’t think anyone questions that.)
-eren is lifting armin up by telling him how there are infinite possibilities and freedom outside the walls, only to flashback to faye and such and realize there's no freedom to give to armin or to anyone outside the walls, there's only the world that wants their demise. armin is eren's villain origin story part 3. this has become a pattern, and third time's the charm.
-is it too bad that whenever i see birds i think of them as little erens
-yuki kaji. in the ocean scene. Perfection.
~~~
-Okay, so, to contextualize. Eren’s goals: 1) to exterminate all the Titans, 2) to be free, 3) a long life and happiness for his friends, even at the cost of his life. So at this point, in the sea sequence, Eren has seen glimpses of future events and knows that he will do the Rumbling. He does not know the concept of Mikasa’s Choice yet, just a few events out of context that will lead to the end of the Titans, which will lead to freedom. He hasn’t decided to do it, doesn’t know how he’s led to do it. He keeps this a secret. He tries to find alternatives, and low-key wants an out by letting Mikasa choose for him when he asks her what she is to him. But in the end there’s no alternative. It’s unclear when he realizes that he’ll be stopped on his 80%, but either way he means to or expects to be stopped at some point, because he wants to make his friends heroes from the get-go. He would go through with the 100% if left to his own devices because he wants to do it on a personal level, but he also knows it’s wrong and feels regret for the individual people that he considered enemies but now has gotten to know as people, despite the fact that it’ll give him what he wants (seen even post-Marley, when he tells his depressed self in the mirror to fight, seen in his reaction to Hange which I never saw as anything but despair- although screw you, Eren, don’t treat them like that); and the fact that he wants to make his friends heroes takes precedence.
From hereon, he presumably continues to receive memories, and his head gets progressively messed up because he’s lived parts of the past and future while living in the present.
Noteworthy is that Eren did not push away his friends pre-Marley. Before that, he was with them, albeit depressed, subdued and withdrawn; he lived and worked and traveled with them and made sure to make explicit how much he cares for them. His sudden leave must have blindsided them, but they still think that Eren is fully aligned with them. The major shift occurs after he comes back from Marley, where the world has specifically singled out him, Eren Yeager, as the biggest threat to humanity - not Paradis, Eren himself. Thus, Eren must become a completely separate entity from his ~precious friends, 1) to prevent them from becoming accomplices, prevent them from being dragged into his messes like they’ve done his whole life, bc they're supposed to be the heroes in all this, 2) to prevent them from stopping him too soon, 3) to convince them to fight him.
Another interesting thing is, Eren only fights with Armin and Mikasa once. When reading, I constantly perceived his stance as a personal offense on behalf of Armin and Mikasa, but technically, their personal fight only occurs once - after that, they’re just on opposing sides, it’s not personal. Considering he didn’t want to fight them and that he was very aware he was lying through his teeth, he purposely didn’t engage with them any more than he could bear, because I assume it wasn’t easy to fight them. But we’ll see how that plays out in s4, ‘cause my manga panels memories are hazy bc those arcs destroyed me.
So. In order for Eren to somewhat keep his sanity amidst overlapping timelines, a massacre that he dearly wants and deeply regrets, pushing away his closest people, wanting to make them heroes but not knowing if they’ll survive in the first place, becoming a mass murderer and the villain of the entire world, he regresses into a child form, where things are simpler.
And the reason I’m basically summarizing s4 here is to remind myself what to actually look out for before I get wrapped up in the tragedy of it all all over again :’D
‼️‼️‼️‼️AOT MANGA SPOILERS‼️‼️‼️‼️(anime onlys scroll away!!!!!)
Nothing will ever irritate me as the aot fandom did when they found out Historia married a man. The way everyone jumped to accuse isayama as being ‘lesbophobic’ and bashed bisexuals and pansexuals for finding comfort in their favourite character being like them will never fail to piss me off.
It’s so weird that y’all felt threatened by bisexual and pansexual fans celebrating Historia being both wlw and mlm. And it’s so weird to me that y’all were so angry because the manga doesn’t give us any reason on WHY she married him so that’s completely up to the fans imagination. Some Bisexuals and pansexuals chose to interpret that as Historia learning to move on from Ymir and living for herself by finding love and a healthy family that she never thought she’d have. Y’all have the freedom to imagine her marrying him to save her reputation cuz she was being slut shamed for having a child out of wedlock. Or that she married him solely to offer him protection from the Yaegerists. Or she married him simply because she wanted to make sure that her daughter was raised with a traditional concept of family (married parents living together with children). The reasons y’all can come up with are endless and valid cuz hey there’s no canon explanation so fans finally have the best opportunity to go crazy with their fanon ideas without being bashed for doing so.
My issue isn’t that y’all hc her as a lesbian; my issue is with the WAY y’all reacted to people who chose to hc her as bi or pan cuz of her ending. Y’all felt so threatened for fans having fun that y’all went out of your way to send hate to any mf who hc Historia that way, and constantly shit on their posts on most social media platforms.
When chapter 139 came out, the aot fandom revealed some of their worst colours, and that includes shippers and ppl who enjoy hcs. Y’all were (and some of you still are) incredibly dramatic about it. Unless ppl were actively using Historia’s ending to be lesbophobic or using it to be shitty to ymhisu shippers, then I can’t see any valid reason y’all had for your behaviour.
A rant about Eren in the last chapter.
❗️Obviously there’s going to be spoilers.
Since I only have one friend that keeps up with aot manga who didn’t like the ending, I rant here.
Personally I loved the ending.
I think the peaceful nature of it was perfect. The chapter felt like a sigh of relief after a whole series about fighting and stress and worrying for their lives.
People are confused or angry about the fact that Eren turned “weak” and “his character completely changed” during the part he broke down over Mikasa and I just want to express how I viewed it.
Tumblr media
First of all Eren’s “tough/cool/badass” version that we see after the time skip isn’t truly Eren. That’s not his personality that we all know. You can even see in the people making “what would the aot cast do if...” jokes on tiktok when they make two Eren’s, S1-3 Eren and S4 Eren. We know exactly what the real Eren is like from right up until season 4. He was impulsive, loud, angry, at times whiny and he never hid any of his emotions. But he was also passionate and we saw how much he cared for his friends and his goals.
Season 4 Eren was a complete personality flip, not because he grew in that direction but because he knew his future and what he had to do to carry out his goal. He had to push everyone away and shut off all of his emotions or else he wouldn’t have been able to do it. Because of this, this version of Eren didn’t even feel human, let alone like the Eren we knew.
Then Eren had to say his goodbyes and explain his plan to all his friends. This is where we start at the beginning of 139. For the first time in ages it feels like Eren is back, and he is heartbroken and exhausted. We even see Armin realising the extreme burden Eren had to carry “all alone.”
Tumblr media
Eren is a 19 year old who’s childhood was stolen from him by the cruel world he lived in. He immediately became a soldier and never even got the chance to properly mature in his teenage years because he had so much responsibilities that were so much bigger than him. He had to deal with so much pain anyway even before he unlocked all the memories, and he even says himself that his thoughts became “incoherent.”
He is literally on the verge of a mental breakdown and when Armin brings up Mikasa, the person he loves most in the whole world and possibly would’ve ran away with if she told him she loved him, he finally snaps and shows what he’s really thinking.
Eren doesn’t want to die. Eren doesn’t want Mikasa to move on because all he wants is to live on with her. He hasn’t been able to live any sort of life his own way because he had responsibilities put on him since the day he was born.
Of course he was going to start whining about her. He’s human. Humans have selfish wants and he just wants this one thing he can never get. He sounds immature when he says it because he is immature. That whole part of their conversation honestly brings a smile to my face because of the childish nature of it.
He literally gave up his life and people are complaining because he whined a little bit to his best friend because he couldn’t be with the girl he loved. He is not “weak”, a “simp”, an “incel” or a “pussy” for this. He’s normal.
Eren Jaeger is still the best written character in AOT, and the fact we see his emotions just furthers that point for me.
Ending note: My apologies I’m not good at writing and this was not written to attack people who disliked the ending, everyone is entitled to their opinion. The only thing I will not accept is either side attacking people who don’t have the same opinions as them or attacking Hajime Isayama for how he ended his own story when he knows the characters the best.
