I don’t think platonic love is less than romantic love, since some friendship can form stronger bonds than a simple love interest. There’s not denying (at least you’re a hater) than Levi and Hange were really good friends. I love Levi and Hange’s relationship, for me, probably one of the best dynamic AOT has… I don’t think there’s another pair who are partners in crime the way they were. Saying that, I still cannot read the chapter 126 y 127 exchange as platonic lmao. It’s not just the word exchange, but the whole composition of the scene. What Hange said was so freaking straightforward, and if you read their words at 127….is like, Hange thought to leave everything behind, but from 126 we know that’s half true, since they didn’t want to leave Levi behind. Well, sadly Hange and Levi were meant to said goodbye at the end, but they literally discovered a whole new world together, were the last two veteran standing and loved each other very much. There’s no denying in that. i truly think this pair will hurt me all my life haha.
Tbh the only difference between platonic and romantic love is the label people give it imo. 😅
There is of course the physical attraction element sometimes, but since you can have physical relationship with zero romantic feelings attached i don't believe This is what makes a difference.
I think it's all about how you personally feel towards the other person and how you label those feelings.
I agree that offering to leave everything behind and live together just the two of them sounds like wanting to label their relationship as romantic.

I'm back to "Six aot characters". This time it's Jean. As for me, he is the most "realistic" (not Flock for god sake). Most of the aot characters are idealists in one way or another, and I love the contrast Jean make in this team. The scene about the inadmissibility of genocide at the beginning of chapter 127 (episode 26 of season 4) is my favorite for a lot of reasons. And the opposition of worldviews of Jean and Hange is one of them.
And imho, he is more of a Commander than Armin (love u, Armin, but still).

spoiler warning if you haven’t finished the show and ur an anime only but
I just finished reading the manga and watching the show (late ik lol) and I’m kinda dissapointed that isayama seemingly set up marley to be the antagonist of the show (which they should’ve been; sent literal children on a mission that wasn’t there’s to complete, recruited child soldiers and put them through hell, put them through cruel experiments, isolate a whole ass country, brainwash the whole world to think said country is the spawn of the devil) and than made eren the villain like ?????????? I can see the vision to i can see what isayama was trying to do with erens character arc but idk it was just so messy and it ended up just being fascist apologia and i just think for such a high-profiled manga/anime, it could’ve been much better sorry if this is a lot i just got into aot late and yeah it just irks my soul
Oh dw, I read the ending on the day it was released🤣🤣 But seems like you’re new here. Welcome!
Mmmm I get where you’re coming from. Marley was indeed shown to be a more antagonistic side, however, it was also dude to oppression they faced during Paradis rule, so it’s more of a reactionary oppression which lead to repeated hatred and crimes against Eldians.
Eren and others found out about it and Eren could even live in the society for a bit to understand that even in the situation with Marley, not everyone is bad, abuse and oppression exist even there and surprisingly to him, people are indeed living very similar lives to what they have in Paradis.
Hence, here comes Eren’s speech to Reiner and his monologue in 131. The world wasn’t as black and white as he imagined it to be, Eren was still stuck in s1-s3 logic, where everyone outside is an enemy that should be eradicated. He learned that the world isn’t polar, it’s indeed grey, wicked, and complicated. As much as he had the knowledge of unseen, he still couldn’t comprehend it to due to his flawed nature, because he is no god, he is just a human that was assigned to bear such a huge responsibility and burden of knowledge. In the end, Eren committed a crime, continuing the cycle of hatred because of the flaws of human nature. However, in some sense, he also became a spake goat that let his friends to be heroes (specifically Mikasa and Armin).
All that doesn’t necessarily mean that Eren became a villain because he’s in fact a tragic anti-hero that failed due to who he is as a person. He was both the god and the devil in the story, which in the end didn’t matter because he was a human who was a victim of reality and systematic oppression, and hatred as anyone else on the other side.
The point wasn’t to make Marley/Paradis be portrayed as villains and great bad antagonists but simply as flawed and nuanced creatures who are in the end are guilty of the same crimes (chapter 127/133 for your reference). It may obviously be seen as fascist apologia but at the same time, even from real life we see people repeating the same mistakes (I will not say what or who, but if ykyk). Especially if you read 139.5, you will see that Paradis ended up being destroyed because conflicts will never end simply because humans just don’t get along nor agree with each other.

The fact that when Jean thinks of Marco, this is how he remembers him 💔 not as a corpse who’s missing half of his face, but as someone whole and soft and alive
Tumblr media
Additionally, as Jean beats Reiner, his hair starts to fall out of place. The way it’s framed here feels reminiscent of his s1-3 hair style: we can’t see the mullet, and his bangs fall messily over his forehead again. This therefore gives the feeling that Jean’s younger self, who was so deeply scarred by Marco’s death, is beating Reiner too.

Hange Zoë spitting out truths
Hange being the moral compass of the story, especially in the latter half, is so overlooked in my opinion. Just like in our everyday lives, we often notice the person who is shouting the loudest, bulldozing their way through conflict, single-minded in their goals. Hange is not like that. Their tone is contemplative and careful, but it doesn't mean they lack clarity at all. Hange's doubt has to do with their leadership, not their moral standing. It is clear that they know and are able to articulate their heart and beliefs with depth and nuance, without stepping on or invalidating the beliefs of others (well, as long as they're not literally supporting genocide wholeheartedly).
So here's my petty compilation of moments in Chapter 127 in particular, where Hange's words are a reminder to the people around them, and to us as readers, when we've forgotten what it means to hold on to our humanity in the midst of fighting for what is deemed as "good", "strategic", or "unavoidable". To Hange, it's either you live trying to make the world better, or die trying.
Here, Hange stops Jean and General Magath from arguing about, well, who has it worse. Look at Hange's straightforward, respectful takedown of General Magath's internalised hatred for a nation's people that he hasn't even encountered much in the flesh. "We can't go back to being ignorant island devils." There is no more innocence in victimhood. Hange is taking responsibility and accountability for having the opportunity to open their eyes, and with that in mind, finds it absurd to turn away from contributing to its destruction.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Moreover, Hange not only acknowledges Magath's confusion at their willingness to sacrifice their lives for people who want them dead, they do it in a manner where they manage to foster a sense of hope in the Alliance. "It's still not too late." Everyone has had their own losses, their own pain, their own history. And here we are, eating stew together and trying to stop a genocide that none of us want. That's most of, if not all of Hange's effort. It shows their own conviction in not only handling interpersonal, deep-seated emotions of war trauma, but honouring the ideals and reasons why they chose to dedicate their lives in the first place.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
In this scene, it is likely that not all the Survey Corps thought that way, even though Hange seems like they fully believe in the Corps' open-mindedness. Rather, it is the overall spirit of what Hange signed up for. Not freedom for themselves, but freedom for everyone. Hange irrevocably rejects the idea that freedom of certain people have to be curbed for the benefit of others. Hange irrevocably rejects mass murder in the name of freedom, periodt.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And with that, Hange, who never wanted unnecessary deaths, is willing to sacrifice their life for not just a vision of freedom and equality, but for people to be able to attain peace, even at the expense of themselves. There is no greater disappointment to Hange than resigning themselves to the knowledge that genocide is inevitable. There are too many lives who should never be subjected to or had the choice to face the horror of being burnt alive. To that, Hange sees their own choice as the needle of the compass, the direction is consistent, it's leading them with the fundamental notion that they're choosing to fight for something greater than themselves. And given the choice, they will always do it.
"We shouldn't be slaughtering one another." It's not a literal statement. Hange has obviously killed and tortured people. Then we find out titans are actually human, too. But this statement is pointing to something larger: there is no humanity in mass killing. It is simply, indiscriminate, mass-murder.
Tumblr media
I wonder what you all think?
Tumblr media
bonus: burrito Levi wanting everyone to stfu and let him sleep in peace, which in my headcanon, is him agreeing with everything Hange has said

IM BACK AGAIN
First of all, thanks to that 7 people who liked my post im very grateful.
Today i wanted to draw Levi in the chapter 127. That was so unexpected from him that I laughed. Absolutely everyone were fucked the situation was pretty shitty and then that mf show up and said “You’re so noisy” like- HIS REACTION REMIND ME OF A DAD WHO YELLS AT HIS CHILDREN BECAUSE THEY MADE BULLSHIT THAT WOKE UP THE WHOLE HOUSE
This drawing looks shitty, ik. I forgot to put shadow and details on the shirt, i mean everything looks shitty. But that was really important to me.

I used this picture of chapter 123 because I feel like here Mikasa was left unanswered and I think Eren still has to answer it somehow. It’s like their confrontation was left hanging. I think from this chapter you can learn a lot from their relationship. Mikasa is the only one who noticed the sadness in Eren eyes and followed him here (everyone else came later). I saw Eren was being ultimately depressed. (that’s how it went in my head.). It hurt my heart a lot to see Eren so desperate. I found this chapter very touching..and one of the rare moments Eren shows his real self.
Eren means so much more to Mikasa and he himself always knew that. Eren knew all along that Mikasa truly cared for Eren just like he cared for her. Eren pushed Mikasa and Armin away because of the choices he took. He knew he would take a path of no return: he's murdered innocent people for his objectives, and even if he reaches his goals, Eren will never be able to live a peaceful quiet life again. He will live unhappy and hurting. Reaching his goal meant losing his humanity, and the eren we knew from the start is very empathetic. Eren will never be able to live a normal life again, even though his objective was to free humanity, he had to dirt his hands for it.
If what figures the upcoming cover of the new chapter is Mikasa with scarf facing the colossal titans this is my thought: Mikasa doubted Eren and put the scarf away, but Mikasa will be back stronger and with the scarf again. This means her feelings for Eren were never false, and its to symbolize that she can still have her own personality and at the same time care for Eren, because she genuinely always did. And Eren knew. The fact that Mikasa is going to rescue Eren makes perfectly sense to me, because if there is someone who always stood by Eren side phisically and emotionally it was Mikasa (im not excluding Armin but I made this post especially for Mikasa and Eren relationship). This time it's her own choice to be by Eren side and it's because she always felt like doing so and because Eren is family and much more for her and it never changed, not even with Eren being so harsh with his words to her and Eren will see. Mikasa is ready to face a million titans to proof that and if it goes this way i’m totally ok with it. Eren needs Mikasa and everyone else too right now.  I hope it’s like I am thinking, also because I had a dream about it before the new chapter was even published.
