Improving Your Writing when English Isn’t Your First Language (mega-ask)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
As you can see above, we've gotten more than one question about writing, improving your writing, and even publishing in English when it's not your native language. First off: that's awesome. To anyone writing or even consuming in a language that's not your first, kudos to you.
You can google any variation of this question and get different articles with a ton of the same advice, and some with conflicting advice. Not only have I compiled the most commonly repeated information, but I've also reached out to people on our Discord server and others for their personal experiences.
I'll start off by listing concise versions of the advice and then expound on them further on in the article. Remember that we are not experts on your writing and that everyone learns in different ways and at different paces. These are in no particular order.
-be patient
-practice
-get feedback from native sources
-don't undermine yourself to your audience
-Grammarly
-research
-don't get discouraged
Be patient
That's first because, well, duh. Patience is so important for both yourself and your writing. Writing is hard enough of a passion without the added difficulty of doing it in a language that doesn't come naturally. In the world of literature, writing/publishing in your non-native language isn't just a matter of translating words. It requires translating of ideas, concepts, and even cultural norms, which is why just slapping it into Google translate won't work.
Part of the reason for the advice of having patience, too, is that writing in your native language needs to take time. It doesn't really matter how fast you can whip out 20 pages of a first draft--it'll still be a simple first draft. Writing is a craft that requires not just love and passion but time. So what if you need a little bit of extra time--or a lot of extra time--because you're accomplishing a feat most don't even think about attempting?
Next is to practice.
That goes hand in hand with what I said about being patient. Again, writing in and of itself is all about practice and doing it daily (not that I'm an expert on getting that done, but you know). But when it comes to practice another language, there are different ways you can do that. You can reach out to native speakers (for English, there are going to be so many people willing to help, even just in our community! you just need to ask) and practice having conversations or ask them to look over your work. Practice by turning on your favorite movie or TV show in English with subtitles in your native language. Watch videos on YouTube, find a Spotify playlist/podcast, in your target language. There's also plenty of people who have done what you're trying to do who have shared their experiences and what helped them on those same platforms.
Get feedback from native speakers
This is a bit of an expansion on what I mentioned in the previous paragraph. In my experience, and from what others have shared, writing in a non-native language can be pretty clinical. Writing with figurative language or in metaphors won't be as easy or come as naturally as it does in your own language. Things like idioms and even pop cultures reference aren't always going to translate even if you have the exact words. That's where native speakers come into play. If they're willing to look over your work, whether as a friend or in an editorial position, they can give you advice about whether the wording in one spot sounds clunky or if a phrase doesn't make sense or if there're synonyms for what you already used to help convey your message even stronger.
Don't undermine yourself
This is something that I personally am saying. It's not mentioned on any of the linked sites, and no one I talked to said it. But as someone who is a native English speaker (and even has a degree in it) I think this is super important. This point goes towards native English speakers/writers, too. Don't undersell yourself and undermine your work to the audience before they have even picked it up. Disclaimers are different, and it all comes down to the words you use and how you use them. Let your readers know, whether it's people on AO3 or a literary agent, that English isn't your first language. Let them know concisely that they may find some basic errors--but stop there. Don't grovel. You have nothing to apologize for, especially once you've given that warning (those is it really a warning? what's so dangerous or scary about a few mistakes?). You're writing is not going to be any less of an accomplishment for a few grammatical errors, or mistranslated phrases, or even typos. I've seen so many mistakes in published works that it's kind of ridiculous. But if you put something out there for someone to read and in the same breath say "I don't know that this is worth reading" I'm going to need extra convincing to pick it up. *kicks soapbox away*
Grammarly
*NOT sponsored*
Grammarly is a wonderful tool that you can use, for FREE. It not only (with the free version) helps correct spelling and grammar, but can also help point out the tone you're writing with. For example, right now, Grammarly is telling me that this writing sounds mostly informative--which it's meant to be--and a little appreciative and friendly. When sending emails I've had it tell me that it sounds formal (which I was going for), and I've also had it not say anything because the text was a different kind of writing (like when I'm proof-reading something being posting it on AO3...). I honestly don't know what else it helps with once you've paid because I've been happily using the free version for about 3 years now.
Research
Don't be afraid to pick up a book, or head to the library, or pull up Google. Research is paramount to writing anyway, let alone once you're doing it in another language. Your research options are limitless and can include your mutuals on social media as well as those dictionaries that translate from one language into another. Research can also include (in my humble opinion) binge-watching/reading your favorite things...in English. In four years of university, one of the most frequently said things was to improve your writing 1) write every day and 2) read every day. You're never going to learn from worrying or overthinking, and you're also never going to learn from just doing DuoLingo (that's more conversational than literary anyway).
Something a member of Discord specifically said in relation to research was to look at morphology, at the roots of words (and root words). Morphology is, in linguistics, looking at how words are formed. For example, let's look at "biology". There are parts to this word that each has a different meaning, that formed together created a new/elevated meaning. "ology" means the study of something, and bio means life. So biology is, simply, the study of life. Once you've got those basics of things like "ology" under your belt it'll become easier to not just translate words but the concepts (if this works with your learning style).
Last but not least, don't get discouraged.
Writers of all kinds get discouraged when writing in their native language. Even those of us who speak English as our first language make mistakes worth discouragement (you will never know how many typos were corrected by Grammarly as I wrote this all out the first time). English is not an easy language. It's not the hardest, but it's far from easy (learning another language isn't easy regardless of what languages are involved). This is a post from someone who is a non-native English speaker but you would never know unless they told us.
While researching for this, I found some articles/blog posts that said mostly the same thing, and are where I got some of the information
This one is from a native English speaker giving advice
This one is for writing for non-native English readers, but still has good advice
And finally this one is a blog post (I think) from someone who is a non-native English speaker!
In specific response to some of the asks:
English, like any other language, changes. It's a very dynamic language, actually, and from region to region, there will not only be different accents but different frames of reference. 1950 isn't so far back in time for the English to be drastically different from what is spoken today, but I'm in the USA and you're asking about Oxford. English in England has very different nuances, even more so than you would get between California and Texas and New York. This is a link to the Oxford English Dictionary list of words that became more common in the 50s. However, this is a generalized list, not specific to any English-speaking country let alone region or city. If you're wanting to look at how to convey the accent of people from/in Oxford, there are videos on YouTube of people speaking in different accents so that you can have an idea, a comparison, at least in your own mind. With the 50s it's going to be more just thinking really of what words and lifestyles and things weren't around yet; cell phones didn't exist yet. Here's another link to some stock images of Oxford in the 50s. Remember, this time was very close to WWII so there'll be lingering effects of that, especially in England.
About fight scenes and curses, there's a ton of resources on that. If you just search "fight" on our page, you'll get a ton of posts answering that question. Also, here's a link to a superb and excellent source on writing fight scenes. When it comes to curses...just watch Rage Quit on YouTube, or spend a while on TikTok. If you want to dive right in just Google "English curses" and there'll be YouTube videos, entries on Urban Dictionary, you name it.
When it comes to publishing, once you've gotten your manuscript is a perfect time to have a native-speaking friend look it over. Whether editing is their thing or not, they'll be able to help with the things that are really obvious. I don't have any experience publishing in a different language, though, so there might be other resources along the different stages to help you. Some general publishing advice I've gotten: when wanting to publish fiction, literature, start small. Start with short stories in literary journals, online and in print. You really can't make much headway with large publishing houses without a literary agent and it'll be easier to attract one if you have evidence that you can write, and write well enough people want to read it. When it comes to poetry, just start submitting. Get familiar with the process, and educate yourself on things like simultaneous submissions and a good rejection. Publishing is an ever-changing game that isn't cut and dry in any language or country. We can't tell you what's best, but my advice is to go with your gut and try your best. Don't be afraid to try again, too.
Everyone overthinks their writing. Or at least, everyone I know who writes does. Honestly, in my opinion, if you're not overthinking at least a little bit, you're not worried enough. You will never be able to fully know whether you've explained or described enough. A good chunk of the experience is up to the readers, so you have to leave them some wiggle room for imagination. But that doesn't mean you have to cheapen your story or short-change your characters. You mention specifically that you're POC, which I'm gonna guess also means that your characters will be POC. It's never too much to specify the race/ethnicity of your characters, even in a fantasy work. How you go about writing those descriptions might need to change but it's kind of like chocolate chips, in my mind: you decide those things with your soul.
So, there you have it. A ridiculously long way to say: you're awesome, you do you, practice, love yourself and your writing, and don't be afraid to put yourself out there (in any way).

Anonymous said: Im writing a book based in Oxford in 1950s. how was the language different from now. I am not from an English speaking country at all. Never been outside my country either. And Im going to write a book based in England in English
Anonymous said: Hi there, I’m a writer for almost 3 years now but since English isn’t my first language I get discouraged easily if things I write come off strange to myself. Do you maybe have any advice for me, on how to motivate myself and not comparing myself with native English speakers? Thank you in advance!
Anonymous said: Hello! I starting to work on this shortfic but it’s been really hard. It’s like I’m trying to building a house alone and with my bare hands. Even though I’m already used to write in mother tongue. Any advice for non-english speaker trying to write their first story in English?
Yaelburstine said: Hi. Do you have any tips about how to write a good fight scene and curses that people speak English get cus’ it’s not my first language
gyger said: I am not a native english speaker, but most of the books I read are in english and I generally prefer writing in english as well. However, I am worried about making mistakes that I can’t recognize myself. I have no idea how good my english is to a native english speaker, plus some things are easier to write in my native tongue (such as dialogue). I’m also worried about publishing, since that definitely would be easier in my country than abroad. How do I decide what language to choose?
Anonymous said: As a POC writer and English as their second language, I overthink all the writing I do. I feel like I don’t describe my ideas thoroughly or my character descriptions are vague or not good enough. I’m currently working on a YA novel but I plan on writing a YA fantasy novel but I feel like my lack of vocabulary and grammar structure makes me give up on finishing my book. Is this normal for native English speaking authors or is this considered a language barrier thing? Thanks! Love your blog!
Thank you for your questions, and for your patience as we do our best to answer them.

WHO WANTS TO SEE A SUPER CRINGE-Y AU I CAME UP WITH WHEN I WAS LIKE 13/14 BUT WAS TOO SHY ABOUT MY NON-EXISTENT ARTIST ABILITIES TO POST ANYTHING ABOUT?? well to bad you're gonna see it anyway  : P I was going though some old notebooks, trying to figure out what to keep and toss, because my closest was becoming a maze and I found doodles about this AU. So I decided I should try and redraw it all. But this is more of a "reboot" to the original version.
Perry
Species:
Platypus
Special talent:
No But Seriously Shapeshifting, Multilingual, pretty much immortal i'll talk more about that at a later date
Occupation: Former Bounty Hunter, but does more "legal" odd jobs now
Nickname Perry's too boring for those, but he does let his friends get away with calling him a dumb ass from time to time
Personality:e(s) Stubborn, Reserved, worrywart, softie for his kid
Relationships: He has no romantic relation, but Perry does look after Phineas, with the a little help from his other animal companions. He has an odd relationship with Doof though! Kinda like how they act in the show, but with less fist fighting and more bickering. Will fight Peter the Panda on sight. Don't test him.
Special Facts: Hates when anyone else sings around him, but never complains when Phineas or Doof get into musical numbers. Constantly stealing sweets, and dumb magazines from Doof. But usually replaces it with something of equal or more value. One time he raided the poor mans fridge, and the next day Doof found an gold necklace thrown lazily near one his flowerpots. Doof didn't want it, but Vanessa loved wearing it. When he wants to get out of a conversation, Perry will shapeshift into another animal and just leave. "sorry can't talk doof, i'm a horse now" "perry the platypus are you serious right now? You cant just leave in the midd-" "ah ah ah! i'm a horse."
Phineas
Species: Alary
Special talent: Singing and Dancing. Can fixing almost anything. Toaster always catch on fire for some reason. Loves exploring, and always finds something new. But please for the love of god, watch him. He will climb a tree and get stuck. Heights scare him to much.
Nickname Phinny, Phin, Cheerio and Puggle
Personality:e(s) Optimistic, curious, hyper Relationships: Phineas has had Perry taking care of him since he was baby. He was too young to remember what his parents look like, all he knows is that Perry found him in the Enchanted Woods one day.
Special Facts: This Phineas is a bit more shy around kids his own age. Having grown up around talking animals will mess up a kids social skills. Phineas has never met another Alary in his life, but has always secretly wanted too. Doesn't know how to fly, but he's trying his best!
Ferbs "Ferb" Fletcher
Species: Beast
Special talent: Can fix up anything you put in front of him. Likes to read, and secretly writes his own short stories.   Nickname None. But Buford calls him "skinny jeans" when he's trying to get a reaction out of him
Personality:e(s) Quiet, short tempered when annoyed, blunt, can be patient with younger kids
Relationships: Doesn't have many friends, but he hangs out with Buford the most. Also has a crush on Vanessa, but due to the age difference doesn't act on it.
Special: Ferb lives with his father and grandparents. His cousins live in the same neighborhood as him, their family having moved to Danville when he was a baby. Only reason Ferb acts so serious is because when he isn't hanging around Buford he's with Vanessa and her friends. Who all fit into the mean teenager stereotype.
Isabella Garcia-Shapiro
Species: Alary
Special talent: Since Isabella doesn't grow up with Phineas and Ferb, her summer days are spent at the Fireside cabin. Isabella has earned every patch there is to offer, and now is skilled in almost anything. It's honestly kinda scary.
Occupation:   Does a bit of baby sitting. Helps at her family restaurant Nickname Isa, Pinkie(Buford), heart-string
Personality:e(s) Sweet, Assertive, Romantic Relationships: Isabella spends most of her free time around the other Fireside Girls, but also spends her days hanging out with her next door neighbor. Baljeet. The two are close having grown up together, and she even considers him to be like a little brother.
Special Fact: Isabella may have been able to gain every patch there is to offer, but if there is one thing she struggles with, its magic. Isabella is considered a sweet girl, but every Saturday night she sneaks out to the town square to listen to the people playing music and dancing. Though since she can't risk getting caught, she never joins in on the dancing, even if there are other kids out to.
Baljeet Tjinder
Species: Alary
Special talent: Can finish reading any book in an hour, no matter the size. Has photogenic memory, and will bring up old crap from 6 months ago so don't try and get on his bad side.
Occupation:   Helps tutor kids at school for extra credit.
Nickname Nerd, but only Buford call him that.
Personality:e(s) Nervous, shy, prideful
Relationships: Only friend he has is Isabella. Him and Buford don't really interact outside of school.
Special Fact: Specializes in water type magic, but Baleet hopes to master fire type magic. Bajeet just really wants to specialize in all types of magic.
Buford Van Stoorm
Species: Beast
Special talent: Buford likes playing the drums at the Saturday Festivals.
Nickname No nicknames for The Buf'. he'll hurt you.
Personality:e(s) This version is 10x more violent than cannon Buford. He used to just make you cry, but now he'll make your momma cry, yo daddy cry, yo grandma, even your dog. Nothings off limit.
Relationships: Buford hangs around other sketchy kids. The only person who he enjoys spending time with is Ferb. Special Fact: Loves graffiti art, and has been caught a million times spray painting walls.
Canadace Flynn Garcia-Shapiro
Species: Alary
Special talent: Singing, can master almost any instrument in a day.
Occupation:   Studying to become a music teacher, but helps at her families restaurant.
Nickname Candy
Personality:e(s) Focused, cynical
Relationships: Candace is still friends with Stacy, and his dating Jeremy. Was adopted into the Garcia-Shapiro household at 9/10 years old. Any special facts about Candace would be too spoiler y
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Link to the sketch Version Here goes the colored version to my AU. I'm not too happy with Isabella's color palette so I might be changing it later, but for now deal with the pink okay. Originally Candace had a type of mesh robe, and she still does! But for simplicity I'll just be drawing her base outfit, Her robe is too complicated anyway, it is supposed to be covered in red roses. Also tell me if I should keep Phineas' hair curly. My sister looked over at what I was doing and straight up said it looked ugly. So yeah, I need an honest second opinion. The bio's are super basic because I really don't want to give away too much of the story. And most of the story revolves around how the kids think and act. AU (c) Me

ahhh, ok, i guess i’ll share here? i feel comfortable enough 😂 first of all though i am SO happy that i was able to brighten your day a bit 🥺❤️ it’s been so long and i’m so so sorry!! it’s been so crazy over here!
but anyway— you already commented on one of my stupid posts about the first half of my switch. thanks to a song rec game that i posted last week, i got a rec from a friend. in her ask, she mentioned that she loves jensen ackles’ songs too (she’s an spn fan). and i knew who he was, but i was like “he SINGS too?” so obviously, i had to go searching. this led me down a whole rabbit hole of jensen and supernatural. i am in love with jensen, as well as sam and dean. and i’m only in the beginning, but i really love it. i haven’t been this excited over a show in years, and i’ve gotten so sucked into it already. the thing is that so many people hated the finale and a ton of people don’t want to see it anymore. but it’s really special to me and i’ve felt a connection to it that i haven’t been able to feel in so long 🥺 so idk 🤷🏼‍♀️
as for my second part, this one i’m even more worried about because it’s content i would be removing from my blog. over the past month, i have become less active on my blog in terms of media, i have just been doing a bunch of personal stuff. but with the time i’ve spent dialed back from stucky and evanstan, i’ve realized that i’m not a huge fan of chris anymore. like, at ALL. and there are a few reasons why, but i’m just not a huge fan of him anymore. and i really don’t want to go into much detail, but seeing him on my dash makes me frustrated. steve is still fine, and so is seb/stucky, but i just don’t feel that connection with chris anymore. i took those parts out of my bio already, but i’m scared of being hated or disliked, as i know a whole ton of people have strong feelings with him. so i’ve been struggling to make the decision. i’ve stopped liking those types of posts, but i haven’t mustered the courage to blacklist tags or make anything official yet.
but anyway, that’s the whole deal 🤷🏼‍♀️ i’ve been trying to decide on what i’m gonna do for a while, particularly with the second part of it (the spn thing is still very fresh 😅).
Oooohh holy crap, I forgot that Jensen sings! 😱😱😱 I remember I started loving Kane because he would sing some songs with him, and it truly was a rabbit hole but omg those were good times! 😍 Does he have like full songs by himself now??
Yeah, I have read some terrible things about the finale, but honestly, if you are loving it you should definitely go full for it!!! Maybe knowing a bit what to expect will make the finale a bit better for you, because your expectations will be more aligned with what you'll get, you know?! 😉 I fully support your love for SPN!!! It is such an amazing experience to connect so much with something like that!! 💖💖💖
Oooohhh, I totally understand the whole chris feeling! It may feel scary, but taking this content off your blog or not reblogging anymore sounds like the best outcome really! You wouldn't be hurting anyone's feelings at all, you would be doing what feels right for you ❤ and this place would start being healthier for you once again, which is the whole point!! 🤗
Whoever hates/dislikes you because you made a decision that will help you & make you happier does not deserve to be by your side by any means! So I'm 100% by your side on any change you decide to make, remember to always choose what will make you happy! 💘🥰 ILY BABY!

Pt.4
Tumblr media
missing you is a slow burn Every time the earth turns I'm reminded that night is only half the time
The next week went by slowly, from one class to another Y/N was forced to stand there and have nothing but a glance from Nolan every time he walked past. He wasn’t his old self anymore, dry and rough he was nothing but a shadow that followed those boys around.
One day she decided to pay him a visit, he said they weren’t dating anymore but he never mentioned anything about not being friends and the girl was holding onto that little gap, hoping it wasn’t a bad moment Y/N knocked on his door but no one answered. She knocked a few more times still with no reply. Disappointed she turned around and walked towards the street when a noise on the second floor caught her attention.
Nolan was there, looking directly to Y/N. He wasn’t exactly intimidating, but what scared her was that she couldn’t read his expression.
“What’s wrong, Y/N?” He asked without moving.
“I-I just wanted to talk,” She rubbed her hands to get away from the cold, it was almost night time and she’d brought nothing but a thin blouse and a pair of jeans, naively trusting he’d let her in, “Can I come in?”
“I’m... I have homework,” He replied, and just then Y/N saw something close to worry.
“Me too,” She smiled shyly, “maybe we can finish all faster together?”
“I don’t think is a good idea Y/N, I don’t wanna get distracted but... t-thanks, see you,” Without waiting for a reply, Nolan stepped back and closed his window, Y/N didn’t even get the chance to wish him a good night.
Walking back to her car it felt like a bizarre walk of shame, and Y/N wasn’t exactly the type to give up to things she cared about just like that; in her mind a plan was already forming, she had nothing to lose at that point, and her friends could say she was overreacting and that she should let him go and move on. If it had been any other guy, maybe she’d have agreed with them, but this was Nolan, the same boy she convinced to join the lacrosse team. The same team that helped him beat up innocent kids like Liam and she had to do something about it.
She drove through the streets still distracted by her own thoughts, the town was quiet that night and it was lacking the usual traffic, not that she minded, all she wanted after her disappointing evening was a warm shower and her bed. Maybe snacks. And binge-watch romantic movies so she could finally sink in the miserable feeling around her chest.Y/N drove in silence until Muse ave came into view, a few cars were parked in the middle in the street and people stood around curiously. Assuming it was a car accident, Y/N slowed down, from her side she was the only car, so she could see the scene in front of her. What she saw would change her life forever.
Two bodies covered in blood were laying on the ground, standing in front of them, there was a person. Or at least it looked like one for the most part, it had to legs and two arms, though those arms ended in big, ugly hands with massive claws, and the face was covered in thick hair and his eyes had a golden, savage glow. Not to mention the gigantic fangs coming out of the mouth.
She had to be dreaming. She was totally dreaming, right? There’s no way that was actually happening, there in front of her. A... a big dog-person growling in the middle of the street.
Then the person turned around and he recognized him. Liam.
“Oh my god,” She gasped, her voice muffled by the hand that went up to cover her mouth in shock.
Nolan’s voice came back to her, almost as if he knew what she was looking at right on that moment.
“You have no idea of what he is, what he is capable of!”
She sees it now, in all his scary glory she sees what Liam is and she wants to lock herself in the nuthouse just for thinking about it. Liam’s a werewolf.
The thing is, even now that she sees his true form, for her Liam still looks... like a scared boy. She can see it on his body language, the way he’s ready to attack but not because he wants to, it’s because he’ll do it if he feels like he needs to.
And what about the bodies? They aren’t mangled, their clothes are okay and the blood is coming from their heads, like someone hit them hard.
Like a car just ran them over.
She finds it quickly, the blood all over the front of the car of that man. And he’s fine, he doesn’t look scared, in his eyes, Y/N sees a sickening warmth, like he’s pleased with his actions.
Hidden in the boy’s chest she sees it: the girl’s hand. Although is not a normal hand, it has claws. What did they do to be killed in such a cold manner? They were kids. Couldn’t be older than her and Nolan. And still this man decided to finish them off simply cause they were different.
Granted, it was a terrifying look, a scary kind of different. But she had talked to Liam before, she saw him getting beaten up for the exact reason this man killed his friends and Liam never tried to fight back, for all she knew, they were the real victims.
It was then that even against her better judgement and all that scary movies ever taught her about monsters that she made a decision.
“Liam!” Almost as if things weren’t weird enough, Scott McCall appeared followed by a girl she remembered as Malia from school. She didn’t know from where did they come from but it didn’t matter, apparently, they knew about Liam’s condition cause they walked straight towards him and surrounded him so no one could see his face. Unfortunately, they were now trapped inside the circle of curious people, and Scott looked around, they had nowhere to go. Or so they thought.
“Scott,” Y/N got out of her car and spoke loud enough to get the young man’s attention, “hey, McCall!”
He found her in the middle of the mess and his eyes went wide, surely thinking she was about to freak out and attack them. “Y/N, I’m sorry-”
“Get in the car,” she cut him out, very aware of the looks people were giving her.
“You’re not gonna let them get inside your car with that... thing, going with you, right?” A woman asked from her left.
“I’m sorry, but last time I checked that ‘thing’ was a human being and the people with him were too”
“They’re monsters!” The man in front of her, the same that had killed the other two spoke up, “they’ll kill us at the first chance”
“You’re crazy,” Y/n replied in disgust, “can’t you see what you did? You killed them! They were kids!”
“Monsters!” Repeated the stranger, and the crowd joined, screaming threats to Liam, who was still covered by Scott’s body.
“Scott, I won’t repeat myself” She insisted harshly, opening the back door of her car and stepping aside so Scott could put him in.
“Thank you,” He sighed, and the three of them quickly got into the car and shared no words while Y/N heard a woman next to her calling an ambulance for the other kids that laid inert on the ground.
Y/N went back to the car and turned on the engine once more. She didn’t look back until she left the busy street, and even then a few minutes went by before she realized she had no idea where she was going.
“D-do you want me to drop you all off at your place?” She asked Scott, her voice now a lot shakier than before.
“No, take us to Liam’s”
“Alright,” She replied, still shaking, “Can someone tell me where’s that?”
Scott proceeded to give her directions until the house came into view, she parked right outside the house and watched as Liam and Malia got out of the back.
Liam glanced at her with fear, and she wanted to let him know that it was okay, that she didn’t judge him or that she wasn’t afraid. But it was a blatant lie. She was scared shitless and she had no words for what was going on. Y/N was in for big, big trouble.
“You can go home now,” Scott told her once his friends were away, waiting for him at the doorstep.
“You don’t need a ride home?” She inquired, trying to sound as calm as possible, “I mean, a bunch of people just saw you walking out next to... him, you could be in danger”
“Believe me, I’m used to it by now,” He gave her a sad smile.
“I insist”
“Why?” Scott eyed her up and down, a frown now appearing on his face, “you saw what happened there, right? How come you’re not screaming and running for your life”
“Because, like you said, I saw what happened. And they didn’t have the fault. Liam isn’t dangerous”
Scott nodded, She saw his train of thoughts going for a few seconds before he spoke up again.
“Fine, give us five minutes and you can drop us at my place”
“Okay,” Y/N sighed, finally letting go of the steering wheel, not even conscious that she was holding to it like her life depended on it. “I’ll be here”
“And Y/N?” He added once he was out, bending a little so he could see her through the window, “thank you for helping”
“Scott?” She didn’t want to ask the next question, but she had to, if she wanted to save Nolan, she had to know everything, “the reason why Nolan and those guys were beating Liam up that other day... was it because they knew what he was?”
He hesitated for a moment but after sharing one look, he couldn’t lie.
“We think so,” And with that he walked towards Liam and Malia, leaving Y/N with a pit in her chest.
If she didn’t stop him before things went too far, Nolan was going to make some huge mistakes.

The Gamer Hero, Deku Chapter 14
A/N: So I've been thinking, and do you guys think I should post my fanfics on Archive of our Own too? I know some people prefer AO3, plus if anyone makes fanart of a certain scene then I could, with permission of course, be able to put it on there (wink wink nudge nudge i have a tumblr). Plus there's that whole thing about how AO3 has lawyers and stuff to protect their fanfic writers. That's pretty cool.
Kyrianae Narii: Yeah people would totally call Izuku one of the fathers of modern magic. I mean, I wouldn't. If anything, he's the grandson of modern magic. (¬‿¬)
xoxoxo
I closed all of the text boxes I'd gotten now that we were back at Yuuei, the police were done taking our statements, and just waiting for our parents to show up on account of the fact that they didn't want to let us go just yet unless it was with a relative. My level jumped from twenty-eight straight to thirty-six after taking out the Nomu. It made sense, it was so above my level that I couldn't even see how much it was above my level. Plus I got another title, Giant Slayer, for having beaten more than one opponent with a level at least fifty over mine, the other one probably being the zero-pointer. It gave me a small offense and defense boost for every level over mine an enemy was, which I knew almost immediately would get less and less useful as time went on, even if it was very good at the moment. I was already level thirty-six, and it was the first semester. Not to mention, depending on how it worked, it was entirely possible that it'd make me weaker against weaker opponents. Of course, I wasn't the only one who leveled up in the USJ. I looked over at Uraraka, who was sitting next to me.
Megalovania
LV 23
Uraraka Ochako
Apparently she'd stopped Kurogiri for so long by using gravity to slam him into the ground and then making him fall in another direction whenever he tried to make a warp gate to get away. It was apparently really effective, at least until he managed to trick Uraraka into throwing him into a portal. She had a really intense look on her face still, and I could feel my weight fluctuating from the gravity mana she was unconsciously releasing.
"I apologize deeply for not being able to help more," Iida said to Uraraka.
She sighed and lightened up. And I mean literally lightened up; the gravity effect stabilized, causing her chair to stop creaking. "No, you did fine. I just couldn't help feeling like... Like maybe if I noticed that portal sooner, I would've been able to do cancel out Thirteen's Black Hole..."
"I-I'm sorry!" Nebula said.
Uraraka smiled and ruffled her starry hair. "No, you're fine."
"B-but I couldn't help at all, you did everything..."
"There'll always be next time," she said. Nebula sniffled. "Let's... change the subject for now. What the heck was that thing you did to the giant monster?"
"Yeah," Kirishima shouted, quieting the general conversations that were going on, "that was super manly!"
"I would also like to know," Tokoyami said.
I felt my face heat up a bit and rubbed the back of my neck. Almost everyone who was still there was staring intently at me as they waited for my explanation. "So, you guys know how my Quirk works like a video game, right?" They nodded. "So one factor of this I almost never use is that I get points for leveling up that I can use to raise my stats, and I used that to raise my WIS, which gave me three new skills. One of those was Duality, which raised my elemental affinity and gave me access to secondary elements, one of which was lightning."
"I told you, Kaminari!" Jirou shouted, pointing at him. Yaoyorozu smiled awkwardly and put her arm on Jirou's shoulder.
"And then I got a much better version of Elemental Aura from raising its level enough called Elemental Embodiment when fighting the Nomu, which was what I used to beat it."
"So that's why it looked like you were teleporting," Hagakure said.
"Yeah, though it wasn't really teleportation," I said. "I just spilled a lot of water on the floor and conducted myself through it in Lightning Embodiment."
"Dang, that's pretty awesome," Kaminari said. "I wish I could do that."
"Well if you practice Lightning Aura enough, you might be able to do it. To use Elemental Aura, you infuse your body with elemental mana. Elemental Embodiment is just that, but... more," I explained. "Sorry I can't give you more for that, but I only used it three times in the middle of battle and the downside of automatically learning things with my Quirk is that it's a little hard to explain how to do them sometimes unless I concentrate really hard on what I'm doing."
"Nah, it's cool, man. I'm sure I can figure it out eventually."
"And by the way," Kacchan said. "You probably shouldn't use a spell that makes you generate electricity all over your body anywhere near anything sensitive to electricity. Not at first anyway." He paused for a moment. "Actually with your Quirk, you should probably know how the fuck that shit goes."
Kaminari gave a thumbs-up. "Don't worry, I learned that lesson already."
"What were the other two?" Sero asked. "You said you got three WIS skills, right?"
"Yeah. There's Tactician, which just lets me think better and automatically gives me information on my skills as I need them, but only when in a battle or crisis. The other one..."
Mantra (Passive) LV1 EXP: 52.19%
Mantra is a sacred utterance, words to live by. This skill represents the ability to change one's meditation into an internal mantra when not in danger, providing some of the benefits of meditation without the downside.
Allows the use of Meditation as a passive when not in times of high exertion and/or stress, but with 1/5th the effect.
Stacks with Meditation.
"Mantra is interesting. I can't use it in battle, but it basically turns another of my skills, Meditation, into a passive at the cost of some of its effect. That pretty much means that my HP and MP regenerate a bit faster and, even more usefully, I can automatically train one stat aside from LUC at a time."
Slowly, we broke back up into our smaller groups and started talking to each other. "Hey Deku," Uraraka said, then pointed to Tsu, who was sitting alone. "Is it just me, or is Tsu-chan shaking a bit.
I winced. "Oh," I said. I'd asked her if she was okay after everything was over, on account of the part where she almost died, but she just said she was fine and I didn't even think to Observe her to check to see if that was the case. Though in hindsight doing that might have been an invasion of privacy. "She... almost got her face disintegrated. I think I might need to talk to her."
Uraraka got up, a serious look on her face. "No, I'll go."
xoxoxo
Tsuyu Asui felt like she couldn't breath, and her heart was pounding. Every time she closed her eyes, she could see that man's hand in front of her face. Her hands kept on shaking, even when she tried to stop.
"Are you okay, Tsu?" a familiar voice asked. "Deku said something about your face almost disintegrating, which sounded like it was really scary," Uraraka said.
Tsu took a deep breath, and tried to steady herself. She didn't want to worry any of her classmates. "I-I'm fine, Uraraka."
Uraraka sat down next to her. "You can call me Ochako, if you want. It's okay if you're scared, Tsu. I was terrified, and I didn't even get attacked." Tsu bit her lip. Her vision started to blur, and a hot tear rolled down her cheek. Ochaka held her arms out, offering a hug. "Do you want to cry on my shoulder." Tsu let out a small kero and leaned into her embrace, pressing her face to Ochako's shoulder. She sobbed and let the tears flow. "There," Ochako said. "Feel better?" Tsu nodded, face still on her shoulder. Ochako rubbed her back lightly. "That's good."
xoxoxo
"I feel shame as a class representative that I didn't notice how Asui was suffering," Iida said as he watched Uraraka comfort Tsu.
"Maybe you could see if anyone else needs a hug?" I offered.
"Ah, thank you, Midoriya. I will do that."
"Just remember," Kacchan said, "if someone's on the verge of a fucking panic attack, make absolutely fucking sure to use your fucking indoor voice."
"I know that," Iida said using his fucking indoor voice. He looked over at us. "Bakugou, Midoriya, are you two alright?"
"Oh my fucking what," Kacchan said flatly. "I'm pretty sure we're both fine!" He shooed Iida off. "Go, ask how everyone else is!"
"We're good, Iida," I said. "Koda looks a little nervous, maybe start with him?" I gave Iida a thumbs-up as he walked over to Koda.
I heard the tapping of a certain needle cane. "Midoriya-kun!" Recovery Girl said as she entered the room. "I'd like you to come to my office. I've patched up Erasor Head and Thirteen enough that I'm willing to let you get some hands-on experience."
"Right," I said. "I'm coming."
"Izuku!" my mom shouted, then grabbed me in her death grip of motherly worry. "Are you okay? I was so worried!"
"Katsuki!" Auntie Mitsuki shouted. "You damn well better be alright!"
"I'm fine, ma!" he shouted back to her.
"So you two must be Midoriya-san and Bakugou-san," Recovery Girl observed. "If you don't mind, Midoriya-san, I'd like to take your son to my office for a bit."
Mom stepped back a bit and inspected me. "Is Izuku hurt?"
"M-mom, I'm fine!" I said.
"Sorry, I think I should've worded that better," Recovery Girl said. "Midoriya-kun is fine, but I'd like to have him help with the actual wounded. He's taking my support hero courses, remember?"
"Oh, right!" Mom said. "How is my dear Izuku doing, by the way?"
"He's doing pretty well, which is why I want to borrow him for a bit. Plus, his healing spell can be safely used on people I've used my Quirk on because he's the one providing all the energy. I still need to learn it..."
"Right," I said. "If you don't mind, Mom, I'm going to go with Recovery Girl. I'll see you when I'm done."
She smiled at me. "Go on, sweetie."
xoxoxo
I looked over my new elemental affinities.
Air: 20
Earth: 20
Fire: 30
Water: 30
Bio: 20 (earth+water)
Ice: 20 (air+water)
Lightning: 20 (air+fire)
Molten: 20 (fire+earth)
Sonic: 20 (air+earth)
Vapor: 20 (fire+water)
I'd tested each combination of elements in Illusion Barrier just in case any of them were immediately explosive. The only one that did anything close to exploding, though, was sonic, which caused a low humming sound when I used it. Bio was... worrying at first, but I found that all it was was a combination of poison and plant, though I felt like maybe there might have also been some flesh manipulation in it that I wasn't quite willing to mess with just yet. It was interesting, though, using the secondary elements. Now that I was out of danger and able to properly concentrate on my magic, I noticed that it wasn't exactly fusing the elements together as I thought it was. If anything, it was more like using power that was less fragmented than the primary elements. It was odd but that was the best analogy I had. "Right," I said. "Is everything ready?"
"You do realize that this probably isn't the best idea, right?" Blaise asked, referring to the six ritual circles equidistant to my bed and in particular the molten lava and cup of boiling water he was keeping warm.
Halitus nodded. "Agreed."
"I'm going to be out of it either way, might as well speedrun it," I responded.
Rayne grinned widely. "I like it! We get all of the new weapon buddies at once!"
"Yeah, weapon buddies!" Dune agreed, happily pulling the cord on my I Am Here All Might action figure (with kung-fu grip).
"Right, let's start this," I said. I placed my hands in front of the circles, had Dune put the Laughing All Might in the empty circle to provide the sonic element, and activated the six rituals at once. "I, Midoriya Izuku, call upon the ancient contract of ages past to summon thee."
xoxoxo
I stirred from my sleep to the sound of a familiar explosion. "Suck it!" a slightly less familiar voice said. I opened my eyes to see several children that looked like they were roughly twelve, along with one girl who looked like she was ten, in varying states of corporeality. The boy whose voice I heard looked like he could have easily been Kaminari's younger brother, except for the odd-looking ears, the red spots on his cheeks, and a strange lightning-bolt tail. He had a yellow jacket with two brown stripes on it. My new lightning elemental, Raimon. He was holding one of the controllers of my Switch, and judging from his furious button presses he was the one who was playing the Pikachu that was winning. A lot.
"Cheater," Rayne whined. She'd gained even more dark blue on her clothes and hair, and she now had blue fingerless gloves with white knuckles. It looked like she was playing as Greninja. She wasn't very good with Greninja, though. I couldn't help but notice how Raimon and Rayne resembled the characters they were playing as. "I knew I shoulda picked the sword guy..."
"Which sword guy?" my vapor elemental, Claude, asked. He wore light, red body armor, had three spikes in his red hair, and for some reason reminded me of a lobster. "Aren't like half of them sword guys?"
"Thirteen of seventy-four," Halitus corrected. Halitus had changed a lot, actually. His hair was now sky-blue instead of his robes, and he had two long ponytails. His robes were fully made of the cloudy material with the exception of five blue tassels in the back that might have actually been some weird tail. He now had patches on his cheeks like Raimon, though his were white.
Claude rolled his eyes. "Same difference."
"Not even close, bro," the biggest of the elementals, Iggy, said. He was my new molten elemental. He had a red long-sleeved shirt with three blue circles on the sleeves and two large brown lumps on the back. His hair was also red with a few spikes, so he and Claude almost looked like they could have been brothers if not for his... camel ears? He had a red tail as well. "And I think it's my turn now." He put his intangible hands on Rayne's controller, and I felt a weird shift in the mana that was automatically leaving my mana pool as he and Rayne switched between being partially summoned and fully summoned. "Who else wants a go?"
Mifuyu, my ice elemental, switched with Raimon. "That would be me." Oddly enough for an ice elemental, she had dark red hair, eyes, and two tails. She was dressed in dark blue ninja clothes, like Rayne, but in a different shade. She had a small yellow gem on her forehead. Mifuyu picked Shiek and Iggy picked Dedede.
"So how are you guys able to summon yourselves?" I asked.
"That would be from my help," Pyra said. "It seems we elementals can summon ourselves, partially or fully, so long as our summoner can bear the strain of our summoning without a noticeable decrease in mana. Master Kacchan gained the strength to handle me recently, and it seems your current limit is three. With Sonia out regardless to allow us to be as loud as we want without waking your mother up, that meant that we've mostly been playing doubles matches."
"You're welcome, by the way," my sonic elemental said. She had a purple shirt, a black scarf, and black jeans. On her nose she had rounded triangular purple sunglasses that you could still see her golden eyes through and over her ears were some expensive-looking purple headphones. "Yeah, after the primary elementals filled us in on everything, Pyra showed up and told us how to summon ourselves so we could play some games to wait for you to wake up on your own."
"We did have some fun with a party game earlier," Juniper, my bio elemental, said. She had a blue-green dress with darker green patches on it. Around her neck she had a scarf that appeared to be made of green fronds, with a sort of brooch on the form of a pink bud. Her eyes were red, her hair was green, and she had pointed canine teeth. "I hope you don't mind too terribly. We didn't mess with anything and made sure not to mess with your saved data."
"Actually, if you guys want to make an account on that you totally can," I said. "I'm pretty sure that'll give you guys save files separate from mine."
"Let's do that later, then," Blaise said. His shirt darkened and the sleeves now had small patches of light blue on them. His scarf had changed to have long red ends with a few black dots on them. "For now we're just playing Smash."
"Can I join in next round?" I asked.
"Sure," Sonia said. "We still have an hour or so 'til morning, according to a few of your neighbours' clocks anyway."
"Hey, can I play next too?" Dune asked. Her clothes were now half camo and half solid black.
We played until the sun rose. It was fun.
xoxoxo
A/N: Just in case you didn't notice by now, Midoriya's The Gamer lacks the party level up feature that the original does. Only Midoriya can get more powerful from his Quirk.
And I bet you guys can tell at least one pairing I ship based on this chapter.
Now, for the elementals. First, I'd like to say this one thing. There is exactly ONE Pokémon that has the true power of steam, Volcanion, and I didn't want to bust out the legendaries just yet. So that meant I had to look over all of the Pokémon that can use Scald (the closest to a vapor spell I could find that wasn't Volcanion-exclusive) to figure out which one was the steamiest.
Juniper: Ivysaur
Mifuyu: Sneasel
Raimon: Pikachu, natch
Iggy: Camerupt
Sonia: Noibat
Claude: Corphish (insert morbid joke about steamed lobster here)
They're in their secondary stages (when applicable) because as intermediary elementals they're in the middle, in case you couldn't tell.

Hullo, saw your views on Rose, and I do agree a lot. I was wondering what you thought of the other companions, like Martha, Donna, the Ponds, River, etc?
I am glad you liked my thoughts. I’m sorry for keeping you waiting, but this ask prompted, wait for it, 2.5 thousand words on my love and appreciation for each of these darlings, because I do love them all.
Under the cut we go!!!!
Martha- Martha Jones walked away from all of time and spacebecause she wouldn’t do it with someone who did not respect her (no offense to10 but she deserved better than you) and that ladies and gentlemen is thedefinition of a strong female character. Even from her first episode I lovedMartha balancing doctor training with her incredibly dysfunctional family andinstead of taking a moment to break down and scream (which is what many of uswould do) she just gets on with it, a little sarcasm and eye rolling sure but she doesn’t let it put her down and doesn’t get bogged down in her stressful life. There’s also how she is a badass withoutneeding to be physically violent or use weapons. In fact I don’t remember a lotof scenes where she does use weapons (thought it’s been a while). She walksacross the Earth using nothing but her bravery and wits, she finishedShakespeare’s spell to the witches on the spot even when the Doctor couldn’t doit (also, Expelliamus, you babe, Martha), ended Joan Redfern with her knowledgeof the bones of the hand (which is some pretty complex information she whippedout off the top of her pretty little head), and talked down to the Daleks(which yes used a weapon but it was a weapon given to her). Whether she wasbluffing or not in that instance, that took some serious guts and homegirl didnot break a sweat while doing it. A small but beautiful moment for her is inher first episode where she says “How many people want to go to the moon? Andhere we are!”. She knows how scary the whole thing is but at the same time shesees the absolute beauty and knows how unique an opportunity it is, and that’sa beautiful thing for her.
Donna- Oh Donna Donna Donna. If there was ever a characterwho was more fitting of the ‘deserved better’ label, it’s her! I don’t think itis physically possible for someone to dislike Donna. Let’s get the obviouspoint out of the way first; best lines ever. I mean between “oi watch itspaceman” and “don’t get clever in Latin” she had some of the funniest lines onthis show. Now that that is out of the way, can we appreciate the hope she has?She sticks out with the belief she will see the Doctor again after the Runaway Bride, and I feel likeher changing her mind humanised her a lot. She said she didn’t want to butthen, things changed, because people change. I liked her taking matters intoher own hands re: Adipose and investigating thinking she could run into theDoctor there. Even from there, she is on equal footing with him. Now we move onto her compassion which is so lovely, especially towards other women, like MissEvangelista (and I love their relationship because I feel like Donna was comingfrom a place of understanding with her, knowing how it feels to beunderestimated, and making sure she thanked her and noticed her even if no oneelse did), Evelina, Jenny whom she immediately bonds with even when 10 isprickly towards her. She just wants to make friends with all the people shemeets and I think that’s an amazing character trait. Not to mention how she demands to be treated as an equal, no matter if it’s a UNIT soldier (”I’ll have a salute”) or an alien ( “Every bit as important as Time Lord, thank you very much”). Her growth was amazing. She didn’t acquire a lot of new skills, just the confidence to utilise the onesshe had! I am still so bitter and upset about her ending because she did notdeserve to have all her amazing adventures and development that came with thatstripped away from her.
Amy- Amy is “my first bb girl” in that s6 of Doctor Who wasthe first one I watched, and the first fandom I was in and Amy was my firstfavourite female character, so I am very protective of her. When we first meether adult self, Amy is desperate to shed the “Amelia” part of her, kick out thechildhood dreams, but even in season 5 we still see a sort of childlikeexcitement because she has not suppressed her inner child and that isbeautiful. She also has a lot of insecurities in her arc, shown in herrelationship with Rory-not in a “I worry that he’s too good for me” way but ina “I don’t know if I am ready for this level of commitment” way-which 1. imomade for a very relateable character and 2. Gave way for a whole level ofcharacter development, because by around the end of series 5/start of series 6she was wholly comfortable in that relationship. But even then she can’t sitstill as it were, she says to the Doctor that she can’t keep a job and, while Ido acknowledge is in part to the fact she is waiting for him to come back, sheis also finding herself, which right now, I relate to massively as a youngwoman. She doesn’t keep a job because she doesn’t know what she wants. Shemodels, she writes, she makes perfumes, she can’t sit still. Amy’s story islargely about growing up and learning to stand on her own two feet, and that iswhy it culminates in her choosing to go back in time with Rory. Now this is abit of my own personal thinking here, but to me Rory represents “normality”, anadventure free, dull life while the Doctor represented everything else. Thiswas her growing up and saying she was choosing normality, her “not a littlegirl anymore” moment. She doesn’t outgrow her flaws, she’s still very impulsivein season 7 but she learns to deal with them maturely. I imagine a lot of hertroubles come from the neglect she endured as a child and I curse Moffat fornot allowing her to deal with her trauma in a healthier way. But anyways, Ithought her growing into her own and maturing was lovely to watch.
River Song- Ah River, or as I like to call her “who my 13-year-oldself aspired to be”. She’s just, so beautifully complex. I think what I lovemost about her is she lives her life on her own terms. She takes a lot of risksbut she…. well I wouldn’t say doesn’t care but she certainly seems to thinkthey’re worth it. And she lived her life totally on her terms, even when shewas in jail! She just casually breaks out and in as she pleases, just waltzingaround like a babe! She also has so much confidence it’s inspiring. She’sclever and she knows it. She has most people wrapped around her finger, evenfrom her first expedition in the library we can see she is the (unofficial)leader. I don’t know if I would call her fearless, but she rarely showed fear.Vashta Nerada? Weeping Angels? She has got this. Plus, homegirl graffitied theoldest cliff face in universe like can you get any more iconic? She is alsogorgeous and she knows it. She has a great body and flaunts it because it makesher feel good and that’s a good lesson we ca all take away from her. I thinkthere is also a hugely tragic side to River. Every character on this show hadfamily issues; Rose lost her dad, Martha’s parents split, Amy was neglectedetc. and then there is River, who was kidnapped, tortured and brainwashed. Andyet she kept on fighting and as a child managed to fight her way out of anastronaut suit and braved the streets of 1960s New York as a child. And that’sjust the tip of it. I saw a post once that in the s6 premiere, when she isalone talking to Rory, in that moment, she isn’t just someone talking to a guyshe just met, she is a little girl running to her daddy and telling her she’s scaredand wants her parents, and it hurts god damn it, it hurts. Underneath thebravado, the flirting, the teasing, she’s scared. I am not amazed that she cameout of it a good person, I am amazed she came out of it sane. But she is such agood person. She managed to overcome her brainwashing and kill the person sheloves most, and then sacrifices herself in the library. One of my favouriteRiver moments is her moment with Donna when Donna asks “How come I’m not in thefuture” and River’s face (huge props to Alex here) just falls so much and thereis so much empathy in that scene. I also think her determination to rebuild herrelationship with her parents is so beautifully inspiring and we were cheatedout of scenes. I also think her past adds to her relationship with the Doctorsince he was likely the only person outside of her parents to care for herwhich is why she latched on to him (not saying that avoiding killing him was atall right, it was definitely wrong sorry bby girl, but it is kind ofunderstandable).
Clara- Oh Clara my Clara. If you couldn’t tell by my bio, Iam a massive Clara Oswald fan, and she is currently in a three way tie forFavourite Fictional Character Out Of Anything Ever (tied with Emma Swan andKillian Jones from Once Upon A Time). Where do I even start with her? Even fromher first episodes, confidence oozes out of her every pore and it is earned. From Oswin (who I fell in love with in 2 seconds flat) and her “total screaminggenius” to modern day Clara and “Clara Oswald for the win” she just knows howamazing she is and I totally love it. It’s not conceited arrogance, not “I ambetter than you” but “I am awesome and I know I am”. Now let’s move on to asimilar topic, baby girl is very smart as heck, even without the computerknowledge uploaded into her via Great Intelligence. She noticed the littledetails “a chimney that doesn’t blow smoke”, she thought on her feet “I’m theDoctor”/ “Your daughter, Skaldak”, she keeps pushing Bonnie and manages to stayequal with her by using her wits (sidenote, can we give all the awards to Jennain that episode because good lord), her whole time in Flatline (which isprobably my favourite Clara episode ever), with the clockwork robots she keptthem talking, risking her own life in the process because she knew how to.Also, right from the word go she is making it clear with the Doctor that she ishis equal and that she is the one in charge here, right from “come backtomorrow” and “see you next Wednesday”. This continues later in her arc “you’reone of my hobbies”. One of my favourite lines of hers is “I’m not a bargainbased stand in for someone else, I’m not going to compete with a ghost” and itjust sticks with me because she is there asserting her authority on the TARDIS,prepared to walk away right now if he does not respect her for who she is, andit is marvellous to watch. And then this comes back in 12’s run where she goesoff on him for abandoning her and I feel like he needed her to ground him andmake him more human. She is not afraid to call the Doctor out on his shit, whether it’s something big like in Kill The Moon or something relating to herdirectly, “speak for me again and I’ll detatch something from you”. Now let’smove onto another, beautiful topic, Clara and kids! We see this in the Bells ofSaint John how she gave up her plans to travel to look after Angie and Artieand then again in the next episode she comforts and all but adopts Merry Gallel, and her with young!Doctor, soothing his fears. It’s a little topic but it’s sobeautiful. She is also, for a lack of a better word, beautifully badass! Shehas stared down Cybermen, Daleks, Missy, all the Doctor’s greatest enemies, andnot blinked. That is how badass she is. She is also incredibly brave, rightfrom the start she volunteers to go into the Ice Warrior, she jumps into theDoctor’s timestream, she sacrifices herself for Rigsy. She’s a beautiful exampleof how bravery and fearlessness are not the same thing. Her dying words are “letme be brave”, which is a beautiful moment for her. There is also something somagical about her, so fairytale, the excited traveller. Her first request is tosee “something awesome”. She doesn’t care, she just wants to be impressed. She practicallydances when she arrives somewhere new. Underneath her no-nonsense “bossy controlfreak” exterior, there’s an excited young woman getting to travel. She ishugely flawed but she is aware of it, which I find amazing. She says in HellBent “I’d say I’m sorry but I’d do it again”. She is reckless and a littleselfish, and she knows it. Ultimately, it is what kills her, but it still makesfor a wholly unique and beautiful character.
Bill Potts- Ah my precious Bill. I think the quote either Moffator Pearl gave “she’s got her feet on the ground and her heart in the stars” (orsomething) is so perfectly her. She is just so open and in my opinion, we needcharacters like that, who smile through rainstorms. I mean, she wanted to go tothe future because she wanted to see if it was happy, which is kind of tragicbut also pretty beautiful when you think about it. I think the fact that sheshowed up at lectures even though she wasn’t a student was so great. All shehad was a love of learning even if she wouldn’t do anything with it, and yes, anatural curiosity about the Doctor himself. The Doctor says that when she doesn’tknow something, she smiles, which is another lovely detail on her character andagain shows her curiosity and just how much of a sunshine she is. There’s nofrustration in not knowing, it’s a new chance for her to learn. Her reactionsto everything around her are so amazingly realistic, calling the Victorianorphans “cute as”. I think her question to the Doctor in her first episode, “Doyou know any sci-fi?”, shows a lot about how she is the dreamer, the one whothinks up impossible scenarios and answers, she dares to think outside the box.Bill has such a strong mind that even being a cyberman could not stop her fromcaring and fighting back. Her teasing the Doctor is absolutely adorable and isreally her way of establishing her own authority on the TARDIS, unlike Claraand Martha, she doesn’t do anything where she demands his respect, she gentlyeases it out of him with her quirky teasing (“Time Lord, sounds posh”), notsaying one way is better than the other, just that it’s a cute and unique wayof her building an equal relationship with him. I think Bill is definitely oneof those characters we so desperately need more of in TV, little rays ofsunshine who want to make everyone else’s days brighter, who want to pushforward and achieve and try because why not, even if it won’t lead them anywhere, who wants to see if the world will still be a happier place tomorrow. And Ilove her for it.

Leaving Normal: Chapter 6
Sooo, I’ve recently realized that while I’ve been updating this story on ff.net and ao3.org, I’ve neglected to update on tumblr, whoops :D So, I’ll be posting 6-8 right after each other.  So, if anyone is still interested in the story, good news :P
Thank you to @allthelittlelostgirlsgrowup for being fabulous beta reader through it all!!
For those who want to read on the sites, here are the linkies:
Leaving Normal on AO3
Leaving Normal on ff.net
In this chapter, Emma is still reeling from the aftermath of the shooting and how Killian saved her life.  Things get worse when she potentially finds out something even more disturbing about Killian and his family.  Dun dun dunn...
The next morning Emma was still consumed with thoughts of Killian.   Her mind never strayed away from him--his intense blue eyes that saw more than he let on, the warmth of his hand against her face, the light puff of his breath against her skin, and the glowing love that pulsed in his blood for her.  She vividly remembers the way her heart had raced--the way his heart had raced and his stomach had fluttered every time he would see her in school.  The way an accidental brush of the hands in bio lab had caused his heart to stop and warmth to spread across his chest.  All because of her.
She was remembering his face in her dreams when Robin approaches Emma at her locker.
The sound of scraping metal jarrs her out of her thoughts as Robin heavily leans against the locker next to her.  "Hey Emma, look I'm sorry about yesterday and the whole intervention thing.  Ruby made it sound like you were in some kind of trouble and I should have known it's her usual theatrics," he smiles at her abashed.
"Robin, it's totally fine," she said, brushing off his apology.  "You and Ruby were just worried."
"Right, I mean she's my best friend and you're my best friend so I just needed to make sure everything was all clear in the air."  He reached over and holds her by her arms looking into her eyes.  "And you're sure you're alright?  I mean the bloody order pad was freaky but you look unharmed to me,” he says giving her a little shake, “and that's all that matters."
Emma grips Robin's shoulders in mock seriousness, looking back at him severely.  "Yes Robin, I'm alright."
"Ok, good," he chuckles before letting go.  "Just had to make sure.  I'm sure Ruby will get over her imaginations."
"Yeah," Emma agreed weakly.  She doubted Ruby would let go of this.   Once she was onto something it was like taking a human from a wolf.
"So anyway, Regina Mills was looking at me earlier today.  A few times too.  What's up with that?"  Robin said as they headed toward their class.
"She was what?" Emma asks, startled by this.  Regina hardly ever gave a boy a second glance unless they were one of her dates and even then she seemed to absorbed in her own thing as they tried to fruitlessly keep her attention.
"Yeah, I don't know.  I mean, hey, I don’t mind but she looked all mystified and narrow-eyed.  Kind of scary but kinda hot too," he shrugged.
"O-kay, Robin," Emma chuckled.  "But, I don’t know.  Maybe she just thinks you're interesting."  She was definitely bending the truth and Emma suspected the real reason had little to do with romantic interest.
"Ooh really."
Emma shrugged nonchalantly, but the truth was Regina was most likely looking at Robin in trepidation.  She had given Ruby a wary eye as well and Emma could only assume she was scoping out whether Emma had told her best friends.  "Who knows.  But, my advice?  Don't think too much on it, yeah?"
"Sure, sure," Robin said distractedly  Emma turned to look at him and saw his gaze on Regina who he had spotted entering the classroom down the hall from theirs.
Emma rolled her eyes and grabbed Robin's arm, pulling him into their classroom with her.  "Come on, lover boy."
He broke out of his daze when they entered the classroom and noted her bag.  "Hey, new backpack?" Robin asked gesturing to her satchel slung across her body.
"Oh no, I just misplaced my other one.  Have you seen it by the way? I don't remember where I left it and haven't been able to check the gym locker."  Emma tried not to worry too much about her missing bag.  It carried her tarnished waitress uniform and if it fell into the wrong hands--well, she didn't want to think about that.  She just had to hope like hell someone hadn’t found it.
Robin shrugged.  "Pretty sure, I saw it with you at the end of the day yesterday.  But, I'm sure it'll turn up.  Not many places it can be, really."
"That's what I thought too," Emma murmured.  "Yeah, hopefully."
Emma and Robin sit beside each other near the door and settle in as the second bell rang.  Her thoughts were distracted by Robin's presence but now that there was a moment of quiet, she couldn't help but feel antsy with the reminder of her missing backpack.  She just hoped Robin was right and that it would turn up.
"Ms. Swan?" Emma looks up to see her teacher approaching before bending down to her level.  "There's someone to see you in the guidance office," she said in a whisper, handing her a pass.
Emma furrows her eyebrow in confusion before carefully takes the pass before standing up. Robin looks up curiously but only says. "I'll get your notes, don't worry."
She smiles tightly in reply as she walks away with her things.  The short walk to the guidance office felt oddly long and like a death march toward hell.  She enters the office with the pass gripped tightly in her hand to see Sheriff Arendelle seated behind the guidance counselor's desk, who was standing beside the door.
"Emma, I just got off the phone with your parents and they have agreed to let Sheriff Arendelle ask you further questions about what happened at the diner yesterday.  Since you're only required to recount the day's events, your parents' presence aren't necessary, however I may act as a proxy if that would make you feel comfortable.  Would you like for me to stay with you?" her guidance counselor asked thoughtfully.   Emma looked between her counselor and Ingrid, unsure as to whether she should go with what made her most comfortable or what was most safe for Killian.  In the end, she decided on safety first.  The less people suspected or knew anything about Killian's involvement in the incident, the better.
"That's ok, Ms. Midas.  I'll be fine on my own and I'm sure it won't be long.  Right, Sheriff Arendelle?"
"Oh, not long at all," she reassured in her soft voice, her icy blue eyes--so different from Killian's--looked back at her with a knowing gaze.
"Well, alright then, I'll just be outside in the main office then."   And with those parting words, Ms. Midas left leaving Emma alone with the good sheriff.
"Afternoon, Miss Swan.  Have a seat," she gestured to the chair in front of the desk she was standing beside.  Emma slowly sat down as Ingrid began pulling out a file.
"I'm sorry to have to show you these, but I'm trying to piece together what happened and this is all part of the investigation."
"What investigation, exactly?" Emma asked, swallowing down the lump in her throat and forcing herself to remain casual.
"Why, what happened at the diner last night, of course.  We still haven't found the two men.  It would appear they were just passing through town, but I may have a lead."
Emma looked up into her eyes, noticing the raise in her eyebrows, the subtle change in breathe and the stillness in her body.  She didn't know the sheriff personally, but she couldn't help but feel a lie in the midst.
"Ok, what do I have to look at?"
Sheriff Arendelle pulled out the what looked like photographs and laid them one by one on the desk in front of Emma.  Emma resisted the urge to shrink back into her seat at the sight before her.
"These are images of a man that was found dead with no apparent cause of death except for that," she said pointing to an image that was a close-up of the man's chest.  The image was in black and white, but Emma knew the handprint that was splayed across his chest was the same silver that was now on stomach.  Her breath caught in her throat and she suddenly felt a chill up her spine, a niggle of doubt taking root at the back of her mind.
"What do you make of that mark," she continued in her dream-like tone.
Emma shook her head, "I've never seen anything like that before,” she said even as her heart pattered against her ribs.
Sheriff Arendelle nodded as if expecting the response.  "Miss. Swan, I'm sure you're aware that Graham is my nephew.  He told me that he saw a similar mark on you the other night."
"He was wrong," was all she said her gaze flitting from her eyes to the picture again.  November 16, 1956.  How could that be? Now, Emma's thoughts were elsewhere.  She had been worried about exposing Killian but she was beginning to think he was keeping something from her, something crucial.
"Maybe.  But, yes I suppose hearsay is less believable than evidential proof.  I'm going to have to see it for myself."
Emma let out a breath, "What?  Isn't that--I mean, that doesn't seem appropriate, Sheriff."
"Think of it as an annual physical examination.  Students have them yearly and I think it's with good reason one would be required of you in particular after your ordeal."
"I'm fine, Sheriff.  I mean, I said that the day it happened.  I just spilled ketchup, I said it a thousand times."  She tried not to sound defensive and annoyed.
"Please, Emma."
Emma shifted in her seat nervously and conflicted.  She knew she could get out of this, it’s not as though they would be able to force her, but she also knew the implication of her resistance--she had something to hide. And maybe, just maybe, it was a good idea for the sheriff to know now after seeing the gruesome pictures.  There was a strange feeling in her gut that she couldn’t quite define.  As a scientist, she should go with evidence and evidence has been used to prove facts, but as a detective she should go with her instincts and he instincts are telling her that there had to be more to the story than what she was seeing.
Emma stood up and carefully lifted her blouse, her heart thudding rapidly in her chest.
Sheriff Arendelle's eyebrows furrowed in suspicion before sighing and leaning back against the bookshelf against the wall.  "According to the reports," she said gesturing at the photos with her head, "the mark on the man's chest disappeared after approximately eighteen hours."
Emma looked down at her bare stomach to see that it was completely unmarred as though the silver hand print never existed. She quickly dropped her blouse in relief and looked up at the sheriff who was scrutinizing her.
"What do you know about Killian Jones?" she asked suddenly.
"Uh, not much really.  He's been a classmate since the first grade.   Nice kid, I hear," Emma said, trying to offer as little as possible.
"Uh-huh, and was--"
"I don't understand what this is all about," Emma interrupted.  "I don't see how Killian Jones has to do with the shooting or this man that you're showing me dead pictures of.  Can I go home now?" she added harshly.
The sheriff looked at Emma, her gaze unwavering as always before finally nodding once.  Emma didn't wait a second before walking toward the door.
"Oh and Emma?  Someone found this.  Believe it belongs to you?"
Emma turned around to see the sheriff stand up with her backpack and walk toward her with it, holding it out.
"Right, thanks," Emma quickly muttered before grabbing her bag and finally walking out of the sheriff's line of steely vision.  She took a moment to breath and searched her bag.  Her uniform was gone.
***
Emma scours the hall, looking for any signs of Killian.  Her heart beats rapidly against her ribs as she walks aimlessly during the last period of the day.  She spots a few classmates that she shares with Killian, none of which knew of his whereabouts.  She supposed it shouldn't surprise her as much considering his habits of keeping to himself but there must be someone who has seen him in some class.  She just about gives up before finally coming across someone who actually knew.
"Uh, yeah Jones?  He has wrestling with one of my buddies at the Triple Gym.  Probably there."  The boy looked bemused as though shocked by the sight of someone actually seeking out the school recluse.
She barely called out a thanks as she sped toward the gymnasium.   There were at least twenty boys in the gym all paired up and wearing the same P.E. clothes but it didn't take Emma long to spot his shock of dark hair as he pinned his sparring partner against the mat. He looks up just then, spotting her.  His partner takes advantage of his distraction and quickly flips him over into a pin.
"Never let your eyes off your opponent, Jones!  Not until the three seconds are up," the coach calls out.
Emma walks the short distance to Coach Frederickson.  "Hi Coach, I was asked to escort Killian to the attendance office."
Coach Frederickson nodded distractedly, keeping his eyes on a pair of wrestlers that looked as though they were about to pummel each other for real.  "Sure thing, he's all yours."
Emma nodded her thanks walking away with a backward glance to Killian, making sure he followed.  Once they were out of the gym, Emma felt a shiver run up her back as she realized what she was doing.  She was walking into an empty room with a potential killer.  But, another look at Killian's confused face made her walk into the nearest empty classroom.
"Ok, Killian, I need answers and this time details would be great," she said without preamble.  She let her anger at being deceived drive her words.
"Yeah sure," Killian replied closing the door behind him.  "What's this about?"
Emma paused, taking a moment to gather her thoughts as she scrutinized him.  She knows what she saw in the picture and logically with the facts that she was given it could only mean one thing, but looking into Killian's bright blue eyes that were showing nothing but affection--how had she missed that all this time--mixed with curiosity, she couldn't help the gut feeling that there had to be more to the story.  But, she pushed it aside because he definitely hadn't told her the whole story.
"It's about you.  I want to know everything from the very beginning. Starting from the moment you came onto Earth.  I mean, where did you even come from, Killian?  You said out there in space, but where exactly?"
Killian looked at her concerned for a moment before answering.  "I don't know.  All I know was that there was some kind of crash and we were found on the dessert."
"We?" Emma asked before it clicked into place.  "Regina.  She's like you too."
"And Victor."
Emma looked at him shock.  "Victor Whale?  Regina, I had suspected since you two were adopted together, but Victor…"
"Yeah, we lost him in the desert," Killian nodded.  "But, we were later reunited in the orphanage and got lucky that someone in Storybrooke took him in."
"Wow." Emma took in the new piece of information before remembering her next question.
"Killian, the crash happened in 1947, but you're sixteen.  How is that possible?"
"From what we can tell, the three of us were in these incubation pods where we came out of and soon after we were found and lived like normal humans.  We don't know anything about where we came from, who we were or anything from that other life."
Emma shook her head, frustrated as she began to pace. The numbers didn't add up.  If Killian and the others came out the pods--she can't believe the words are actually passing through her mind--in 1989, then they couldn't have been around in 1956 when the man had been killed.
"Um, Killian," she began slowly, "is it possible that there are more of you guys out there?  Maybe someone else that came to Earth with you and got lost somewhere?"
Killian furrowed his eyebrows.  "No, we never knew of anyone else coming with us.  Why?"
She still had so many questions, but this was the most important one.  "Because the sheriff showed me some pictures today, Killian.  Pictures of a man who had the same handprint on his chest that I had on my stomach after you healed me.  Only he was dead.  The picture was marked 1959.  How is that possible, Killian?" Emma asked shaking her head.
Killian's eyes widened as he stood perfectly still.  He shook his head slowly, "That's not possible.  Are you sure you saw it right?"
"Yes, it definitely said 1959.  Killian, the reason she showed it to me is because…I think she suspects you."
Emma watched carefully as Killian stiffened and his jaw clenched as he stared off.  "Killian, what--"
"I have to go."  He quickly rushes to the door as Emma follows behind.  She makes it out the door but gets swept in the crowd heading toward the Crash Festival.  "Wait, Killian!" she calls out.  "Killian!"
But, it's too late.  He was already out of sight.
Thanks for making it to the bottom and let me know what you think!

Oh boi, do I have a shit tonight
1.) My mom pissed me off so badly cause HOW ARE YOU GONNA WAIT UNTIL THE LAST MINUTE TO TELL ME THE PLAN FOR PAYING FOR MY HOUSING FOR COLLEGE?! I ASKED FOR THAT SHIR LAST WEEK AND WE WENT THROUGH LIKE A 3 DAY PROCESS (something that should only take 1 day mind you) SO YOU COULD GET YOUR SHIT TOGETHER!! I GAVE YOU EVERYTHING YOU NEEDED AND YOU HOLD IN YOUR PLAN UNTIL I FUCKING CALL YOU* AND ASK ABOUT IT AND I FIND OUT THAT YOU HAD DAD DOING IT BUT NEVER TOLD HIM THE FUCKING PLAN?! AND THEN HAVE THE GALLLLLL TO ACT RIMID LIKE IT'S NOT YOUR FUXKIN FAULT THAT NO ONE BUT YOU KNOWS THE PLAN!! AND WHY ARE YOU ACTING BRAND NEW??? Usually what happens when I need money for school is, parents put money on my credit card and then I pay for stuff but this time MOM IS TRYING TO PAY DIRECTLY THROUGH THE SCHOOL?! AND NOT INVOLVE ME, which would be fine IF SHE DIDN'T FUXK IT UP COMPLETELY!!! She tells me it's all been taken care of by dad when I call her today and so I ask to talk to dad cause he sent me some snacks and I wanna say thank you right? So after talking to dad about the snacks he asks me for a link to the school so he can pay for the housing... meaning it hasn't been done yet. And I'm like, well... I'll just type out the convo
Dad: I need a link to the payment thing so I can pay for housing
Me: What link?
Dad: You sent me all your info, and thank you for that, but I need the link too. I don't know what to do and where to go
Me still confused: mom asked for that stuff so I sent it, I don't know why she wanted it and I don't know what link you're talking about
So finally dad calls mom into the room because we BOTH don't know what's happening and that's when mom has a small voice all of a sudden and is like "I thought we could just pay through the school" AND SO NOW IM PISSED AND STRESSED CAUSE IM DESPERATELY LOOKING THROUGH MY EMAIL ANS THE SCHOOL WEBISTE FOR A PAY DESTINATION WHILE TRYING TO KEEP THE ANGER OUTTA MY VOICE AND MY ANGRY/STRESSED TEARS AT BAY DURING MY CONVERSATION WITH THEM BECAUSE THEY'RE STILL TALKING TO MEEEE!!! THEN I FIND IT AND THEY ADD THE MONEY TO MY CARD (my card that's in the truck cause I left it outside by accident) so I put them on hold and run around looking for the keys that papa had in his pocket and Jammie is trying to get me to calm down and explain but I'm pissed and stressed so that's just making it worse* so I pay (and send them a picture of the receipt that mom wants cause I guess she don't trust me now even though I've done nothing to deserve this lack of trust with school money so fuxk her) after getting my shit and go back to talking to dad who I don't wanna talk to anymore cause I'm fed up and trying not to cry
2.) YOU*: they usually call me at least once a week but they been mad silent since last week which is no Bueno cause I need to know if I have the money or not to pay for the fucking fee OR if they have paid for it SO FUXKING CALL ME CAUSE I AINT TRYIN TO CALL YOU! THEY ALWAYS LACKIN WHEN IT COMES TO DOING SHIT FOR ME. I asked mom WEEKS ago if she could get a refill on my medicine and so when I check in today she NOW wants to tell me that there's been complications cause I'm 18 so I kinda need to do it. AGAIN I'd be fine with that IF SHE AINT WAIT THIS LONG DURING ALLERGY SEASON!! THIS IS SHIT I GOTTA KNOW SO WHY THE FUCK ARE YOU WAITING THIS LONG TO SAY SOMETHING?!
3.) Worse*: Jammie LOVES to talk about how trash my dad is depressed or bipolar (he's fuckin not so I really wished she'd stop saying that, IM bipolar so I know he's not she doesn't even know what she's talking about and it irritates me). So when she had me explain what's happening and I rant about mom fucking everything up she starts blaming dad??? She says that they planned what to say when I called and how to act and that my dad is orchestrating the whole thing like,,, no? Were you even listening to me??? So I repeat that MOM is acting brand new and dad and I don't understand what's happening but she continues to tell me that it's dad who's the blame. I tell her dad is not the only bad guy and is not ALWAYS the bad guy, I know he's shit alot of times but he's not always bad he was a good dad once and he still has his good dad moments, but she REFUSES to listen to me! And keeps blaming him and I KNOW it's cause she doesn't wanna view mom, he daughter, as a bad person and wants to put all the blame on dad BUT THATS NOT TRUE AND IM TIRED OF HER PRETENDING!! LISTEN TO WHAT THE FUXK IM SAYING AND STOP LIVING IN YOUR DELUSIONS!
4.) Dad and I were talking and it was fine UNTIL HE SAID HIS DUMBASS STATEMENT ABOUT ME BEEING TWO DIFFERENT PEOPLE!!! Ever sense I've gotten diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder he's taken that and RAN with it. But he uses it in the sense that sometimes I'm calm and sometimes I'm angry and just negative (disrespectful, argumentive, defiant, indifferent, and rude) BUT THATS NOW WHAT BIPOLAR IS. Its basically on and off depression and mania. But his favorite statement is "I don't know which you I'm getting" LIKE BITCH SHUT THE FUXK UP YOU CANT EVEN TELL WHEN IM SAD EVEN WHEN I HAVE TEARS IN MY EYES YOUR DUMBASS THINKS I HAVE AN ATTITUDE AND THEN YOU GET MAD AT ME AND MAKE IT WORSE! He's never said his "favorite statement" UNTILL I got diagnosed so I KNOW IT'S CAP. YOU DONT KNOW ME SO DONT PRETEND YOU UNDERSTAND ME ALL OF A SUDDEN! YOU'RE FAKE AS FUXK! And this was all sparked because I asked if I could watch a show now that I'm 18 and he was like "Wow! She's respectful!" BITCH IVE ALWAYS BEEN RESPECTFUL IM JOT ACTING NEW IM ACTING THE SAME SO WHY ARE YOU TRIPPIN' ??? He said he was surprised I asked because he didn't think I cared about their opinion but literally thats all I cared about!? I acted and behaved in a way that would make them happy and praise me because I constantly wanted validation that I was a good kid, that they loved and cared for me, and that I wasn't a problem and inconvenience because I was alive. SO HE'S FUCKIN STUPID AND THAT PISSED ME OFF AFTER I CALMED DOWN. "I dOnT kNoW wHaT yOu Im GetTiNG" LIKE BITCH AHUT THE FUXK UP!! YOU SOUND MAD STUPID
5.) Broski if you see this, I wanna explain my "cowardice" earlier today. Look bro, I view my rant Tumblr as a diary of some sorts. That's why I changed my little description/bio to a quote joke about Journaling from my therapist cause I view this as my Journaling so I can better manage my feelings and get them out in a way that's not harmful to me. With that being said, announcing "Lets read ______ tumblr" is gonna immediately activate my fight or flight. These rants are private and personal to me. I've literally described it as like take a trip or look into the doors of my mind. Sharing my feelings and opinions are always scary to me because I'm afraid of being looked at in a negative light you know cause childhood trauma. You know I'm afraid to share my feelings bro. Let's uh, go back to the question "How much do you trust your friends" and I trust yall a Hella lot but I don't trust ANYONE 100% with my feelings except me. NO ONE. So with that being said, knowing that'd you he actively reading my rant Tumblr with me there was too much and I didn't like it at all. I find that extremely stressful and it made me wanna instantly draft all my recent shit. The main reason I let you look at this Tumblr is because I DONT KNOW WHEN you're looking at it. You might not see it until weeks later so I don't worry about it, you might forget all about it, but if you tell me you're currently reading it or when you're going to read it, then my anxiety kicks in and I panic and fight the urge to edit everything and hide anything that might stand out as weird or bad to anyone else. So yeah, please never let me know you're about to read my rant Tumblr again unless I tell you to specifically look at a post :) also the reason I didn't text you this was because 1.) I never really planned to explain myself cause I didn't feel like I owed anyone an explanation and it was hard/long to type out or say anyways and 2.) Because of the stuff that happened in sections 1, 2, 3, and 4. I didn't feel like talking to anyone after that.

Grimms Notes 1
Somehow, from the opening shot having an easy-to-draw-and-animate non-very-threatening monster, I can tell this is a game adaption.
…Likwise, when I have complaints about the birds in the OP being CG, you know this is an anime.
I think this “handing down the role of Red Riding Hood” thing is interesting. However, the humour Tao was going for at the time…was so not me.
I think all Tao said was that it was dangerous (in the audio). I think the subber was trying to insert a Zelda meme…what an evil agenda…(partially joking)
“…scary black thing…” – Do you mean the monster? If you mean the wolf monster and not the other clawed creature from the beginning of the episode, then that’s not black. That’s purple.
I think Brain’s Base is trying to make Red look creepy with her dead ahead stare, but…as much as I don’t like a fisheye lens, we could really use some right now.
Okayyyyyyyyyy…I knew anime could make anything a weapon, but a bookmark? That’s stretching credulity a bit. How is that badass??? C’mon, even healing was – kinda – badass in Merc Storia because it had a purpose. A bookmark is just used for keeping your place in a book. Unless it’s one of those metal ones that falls out of books all the time, they don’t hurt flies.
Seriously, doesn’t Goliath get defeated by David??? In better news, I thought Tao was vaguely hot, but Robin Hood…ooh…
I have no idea why Alice’s weapon is a sword, btw.
Waitttttt…wuh? “I’ll show you how to be a real lady”???? *eyes of skepticism* At least the other ones make sense and aren’t as gendered – but notably Cinderella is a healer when they could’ve done something cooler, like the Little Mermaid or something (to tie into siren mythology).
Obviously Evil Villain is Obvious. Nothing new to see here.
Well…that was mildly unsatisfying…
Spec Ops Asuka 1
For some reason, I call Magical Girl Special Operations Asuka “Spec Ops Asuka”. Well, at least it makes sense…*shrugs*
Karambit. Surprisingly, it’s a weapon I’ve never heard of before…
Exposition dumps have never been this clunky before! Oof!
Whiskey Charlie? Like…WC? Toilet??? (I’m not sure everyone will get that joke, but okay.)
I’d probably translate the episode title to “Comeback of the Magical Girl”. It starts with a relative clause, so it should be that way in English too.
The ol’ transfer student cliché. *sigh* Anime, anime, anime…why you do dis to me? Not that I mind it, I wouldn’t be so deep if I weren’t…
What’s the name of Nozo-chan’s friend again???
“Franz on the Waves” seems to be a play on “Kafka on the Shore”.
Le sigh…I get the feeling this was written by a dude to satisfy male fantasies by pretending to use girl power as a symbol.
Seriously though, if you thought Sailor Moon was bad at keeping identities…Asuka has it worse. I mean, Rapture Asuka = Asuka Ootori. It’s really obvious in English…
A thug man with a metal hand drinking tea from a tiny cup…now there’s a real source of humour!
(Trigger warning: prostitution discussion) - “…whoring yourself out.” – Err…that’s definitely not what I expected to see in an anime like this. I haven’t shied away from Shield Hero, but this I did a really big double take on for all the wrong reasons. Even with Sayoko to hold Nozo-chan back, I still think Nozo’s being really, really insensitive here.
Okay…the rules of long hair state you must pull your hair out from towels. They missed a good opportunity to do that shoujo sparkle thing with that, y’know, even if to create mood whiplash.
There is something to be said about bystander effect here, I think, and how people award proactivity rather than being passive...especially with magical girls and those other kinds of people who act as “heroes” during times of crisis.
Oh, of course, terrorism. Because we want our magical girls political now…*le sigh*
“Live your life for the sake of those who died.” – This reminds me of the situation with cian-aemilian all over again. I’m pretty sure I’ve said something of a similar nature in the past due to it. Update: my exact quote was “…what can the living do but keep those who have gone in their memory?”
…and of course, people who watch magical girls from afar use drones, because that’s going to outdate this show in a good 10 – 20 years. *le sigh*
Well, colour me impressed. I was about to jump ship due to the shoddy quality, but I think that quote at the end felt like a dig at me personally in the best (yet worst) way possible.  I did laugh a tonne at how stupid the gore looked, though, which might be a problem…
Boogiepop 3
Is it just me, or has Echoes cleaned up now enough to be kinda…hot?
Waittttt…which of them is “Niitoki-kun”? Sorry, I just don’t think I’m 100% comprehending all the names being flung about here. Update: Niitoki is the class prez gal.
Somehow I knew he was going to stab Echoes with the pen, but I was still slightly surprised to see it happen.
Hmm…that episode was a lot more impressive than the last two. Things actually made sense, now that we know the background of them,
Price of Smiles 2
I see 2D mechs. They may be stationary, but I’m still impressed…they’re basically a dying breed these days.
Why do these mechs have shields, anyway?
I like how the twins poked fun at Joshua’s “passion and will” thing.
Oh no…judging from their reaction…did Joshua die???
End of episode segment…keep watching.
Kaguya-sama 1
This is my final premiere…so I’d better make this count. I read somewhere the narrator was overpowering and read the first volume of manga, but otherwise that’s all I know about this.
I think that shot that replays in the OP is part of one chapter of the manga.
Tori…Tottori…geddit? Oh, never mind.
20th Century Fox, much?
The weed was a good touch. I don’t remember that being in the manga. (No, I’m not talking about that weed…which you can smoke…)
“Who’s Hayasaka?” you ask. Good question. Even I didn’t know, so I had to ask Google. Hayasaka…is Kaguya’s valet! If you know that, then you can laugh about it!
If you want a sausage octopus, just go ask your team of chefs for one, Kaguya!
Mob Psycho II 2
I’m pretty sure Ura Sunday is where Mob Psycho is serialised…
Is this the real Junji Ito adaption (LOL)?
Mononokean II 2
Why is Ashiya good at finding metal objects anyway? (If there is an explanation…) It’s only metal items and not anything else, right?
So the Justice is this frumpy purple-haired dude? I think I outgrew this kind of dude once I got over Urushihara…
There are CGI tadpoles, but they’re kinda hard to see against the 2D background…
Come to think of it, Abeno may be the master of the Mononokean, but it seems he reports directly to the Legislator. Is there a guy/youkai like that for the Justice (and presumably the other dude) as well?
Moja falling into the water was too adorable!
Oh great (LOL), the Legislator is basically baiting Abeno with “that’s not water!” from Grand Blue…
I just realised Abeno’s so big in comparison to Ashiya…n-not that I mind of course…(lel)
Aoi? Who dat? Update: Oh yeah…that guy (?) was the first master of the Mononokean. Sorry, I may have watched the 1st series twice, but that was at the start of 2017.
Shield Hero 2
“…is diseased and has a mental disorder.” – Well, I thought it honestly couldn’t get any worse, between slavery and rape accusations. It just did. Again, I don’t condone this stuff, but a story’s a story, no matter how depraved.
Seeing a story about the pits of despair naturally means you can see people get better – I think that’s why we need to have both stories that are light and fluffy + dark and dreary.
I see Naofumi keeps a Balloon (<- how I’ll refer to balloon monsters from now on) at his side all the time now, LOL. By the way, when he bought that ball, I honestly thought he was going to offer Raphtalia a Balloon instead of getting her a proper ball…
Update: Not sure if Naofumi’s inability to taste stuff is because of the betrayal or because of the fact he changed worlds…or maybe even something else?
My Roommate is a Cat 2
I see Bliss wallpaper...either someone has good taste in default wallpapers or a very outdated computer!
Is it alright to feed cats bread…? I’ve never fed a cat.
They say pets are like their owners, huh? Subaru is very much like the cat.
Wait, why are all the pets that are out and about do-Update: Forget I asked. There are some cats outside as well…
I’ve never seen a Japanese word processor with genkouyooshi to type into vertically, come to think of it.
Talking to cats is fine and dandy, I think, assuming they understand you as well. Anyways, I think Subaru got the name “Haru” from “sunny” (hare).
Ah! Kitty too cute!...I wish that could be a review, but sadly…it can’t be.
Post-credits segment…keep going.
Oh, that post-credits segment was so good, even if it did need some explaining to an audience that only knows English!
Update: I read the character bios from the official site, and turns out Haru is a girl.
Girly Air Force 1
I’ve seen mixed opinions about this (as in, read too many impressions on it and they don’t neatly go one way or another), so I’m taking the plunge while I still have time to.
You can tell your protagonist is great when the first word he says is “S***!”
EGG? “Defective girl”? I know I’m watching something with a lot of context here…but seriously, this was definitely made for dudes. Jusssssssssssst saying.
See? What did I say? After your first kiss, it’s only a matter of time before-erhem. I’ll stop ranting now.
So…what languages does Minghua know, exactly?
Wait, so what was Kei doing in China? Better question! (sings in a teasing voice “Eloping, eloping, Kei was eloping!”)
As much as I think free tuition is a good thing…I’m with Minghua. Don’t go risking your life when you just escaped for your life not too long ago.
*sigh* Kei, Kei, Kei…what do you think you’re doing?
…and I LOL. I LOL so hard at how they tossed Kei into the boot but laid down Minghua like a baby.
But seriously, why the name “Daughter”???
Egao no Daika 3
I found and heard Huey! I can leave this show if I wanted to now…
The fact people are red or blue, and sometimes you can’t tell which is which, is powerful colour symbolism.
Spec Ops Asuka 2
Well…that (perception magic) explains one of my questions from last time.
I kep thinking that Sayako is the sort of girl who would become a magical girl…in the traditional sense.
Pigeon fight! The fight I never knew I needed…kind of.
I’ve watched enough anime to know the new transfer student is Kurumi…geez.
Mononokean II 3
For some reason, I didn’t realise this until most of the episode had gone…but Egen is a tengu, right?
Make sure you watch closely for the “like him [Ashiya]” bit…it’s funny when you find out.
I find it the most surprising that Abeno is calling himself an idiot…hmm.
