Head resting in your hand and elbow resting on the counter, you huffed, still not used to the heat that accumulated in the store throughout the day and praying for just one customer to walk through the door so you could experience a refreshing blast of evening air. You supposed you could go outside yourself to cool off a little, like Keishin had previously suggested in lieu of sticking your head in one of the fridges, but being the only person at the store currently, you felt a little bad about leaving the building, even if it was just to step out front.
You were still trying your best to put on a good impression for Mrs. Sakanoshita—despite the rough first impression you had made on her son—and you knew the family store was precious, so you decided to suck it up for the remainder of your shift.
Without much to do, since you had completed your chores early, you remained seated at the front counter, bored out of your mind. That was, until your prayers were answered and you heard the front doors slide open.
“Hello!” you greeted happily, ready to welcome a customer. Your radiant excitement faded when you noticed it was just Keishin, however, and went back to slumping on the counter. “Oh, it’s just you.”
“Wow, those rapid mood changes must be why we’ve been so busy lately,” Keishin shot back at you, a cigarette hanging from his mouth like usual. “Will the girl behind the counter smile or frown at you? Maybe it’ll be both. Oh, how exciting!”
“Can it, dye job,” you grumbled.
Keishin feigned hurt, his hand resting over his chest dramatically as he pretended to have been shot. “Words hurt, you know. You’ve hurt me.”
“That doesn’t matter,” you told him, lazily gesturing around the empty store. “What does matter is that we’ve been dead for hours and I’m bored.”
Keishin poked his bottom lip out and faked a pout. “Awh, poor baby. Is getting paid to sit there and do nothing hard work? You must be exhausted. Poor thing.”
“I don’t get paid nearly enough to put up with you.” You reached across the counter to lightly smack his shoulder but he jumped out of the way just in time. “Seriously though, stay and entertain me for a while.”
“If you’re that bored, why don’t you dust the vents or something?”
You laid your head down on the counter and exhaled slowly for effect. “You know I aim to please but that sounds like hell. Can’t you just talk to me for like ten minutes? Tell me about your day or something.”
Keishin threw his head back and groaned loudly. “But I’m too hungry to think about anything other than food right now.”
“I’m hungry too but you don’t see me complaining about it.”
“No, you’re just complaining about everything else.” He leaned against the other side of the counter, his tongue flicking against the tip of his cigarette as he thought. “Actually, I’ve got a better idea.”
You glanced up at him, waiting for him to elaborate. “I doubt it but proceed.”
Done with your constant back talk, which was extremely common between the two of you ever since you had worked out your differences and agreed to the deal he had suggested, he took a drag of his cigarette and blew the smoke directly into your face. “Just shut up and listen, will you?”
You coughed when you accidentally inhaled the second-hand smoke. “If I get cancer and die, I’m haunting you.”
“Go ahead.” He didn’t pay any attention to the words leaving your mouth as he headed into the back room and shut off the store lights. Then, with his own set of keys in hand, he headed back toward the front of the store. “Come on.” He looked back at you expectantly when you didn’t immediately follow.
Confused, you slowly stepped around from the back of the counter. “Where are we going?”
“We’re closing up early and going to get something to eat.”
You narrowed your eyes at him, half of you wondering if this was some sort of employee test to see how responsible you were. “Are we allowed to do that?”
“I am, you aren’t,” Keishin said, beckoning you over to him. “But let’s just keep this between you and I, yeah? What my mom doesn’t know won’t hurt her. Besides, it’s slow anyway.”
Taking off your white apron and grabbing your things, you reluctantly followed the older man out of the store and watched as he locked up behind the two of you. Anxiously, you shifted your weight from foot to foot. “Are you sure I won’t get in trouble for this?”
“I promise I won’t tell on you,” Keishin assured you as he stuffed the keys back into his pocket and dropped his cigarette bud to the ground before crushing it with his foot. “Let’s go. I’m starving.”
Falling into pace beside Keishin as the two of you set off down the sidewalk, you following his lead, you weren’t sure exactly sure what to say or even if you should say something. Never before had you and Keishin existed outside of the store together and it felt a little awkward.
“So . . . is this like a date or something?” You regretted the words as soon as they left your mouth. What you had meant to come across as a casual inquiry ended up sounding more like a desperate girl clarifying what she meant to the boy she liked. You sounded like a child.
The corners of Keishin’s mouth curled upward and he shrugged. “Call it whatever you want.” He really didn’t seem to care one way or another. “Although, I’d be a horrible boyfriend if I didn’t take you out at least once . . . fake or not.”
You nearly choked on your spit at the use of the word ‘boyfriend’. Even though you had been pretending to date him for the purposes of changing your parents’ ideals for the past few weeks, you were still caught off guard every time Keishin referred to himself as your boyfriend—even though he was usually doing it to mock you.
“Yeah, just awful,” you agreed halfheartedly. “Where are we going anyway?”
“This little place that I like,” he said, his answer extremely vague until he continued. “Best ramen I’ve ever had.”
After a few more minutes of walking, the two of you arrived at the place Keishin was talking about and he ordered two take-out bowls and paid for them both, insisting that you should try his regular order since you had never been there before. Not wanting to disagree because he was footing the bill, you let him do what he wanted and tailed him out to a picnic table outside like an obedient puppy.
“It’s much too hot to eat inside,” Keishin reasoned as he plopped down on the opposite side of the picnic table from you. “Plus, it’s nice outside. Might as well enjoy the weather while it lasts, right?”
“Right.” You nodded.
While Keishin dug right into his meal, you sat still, hands in your lap, and watched him. One thing you had quickly come to realize was that Keishin was the perfect specimen for people watching, and not just because he was relatively easy on the eyes. He was an interesting person; for example, how he tucked half-smoked cigarettes behind his ear to smoke later or how he always wore a headband to keep his hair out of his face but vehemently refused to just cut his damn hair.
Even though you bugged him about cutting his hair all the time, you secretly hoped he would continue to stand his ground and refuse because you wanted to see what he looked like with his hair down. You also wanted to run your hands through his hair—it looked soft and fluffy—but that was besides the point.
“Hey, it’s gonna get cold,” Keishin snapped you out of your thoughts, his mouth half full of ramen as he jabbed his chopsticks in your direction. “Don’t tell me you don’t like ramen. You should have said something before I ordered for both of us.”
Snapping out of your daze, you picked up your chopsticks and shook your head. “No, I like ramen.” You took a bite to prove your point. “Sorry, I was just lost in thought.”
Keishin waited for you to eat a little more before digging for your consensus. “Good, right?”
“Yeah, really good,” you agreed. “I always walk past this place but I’ve never gone inside.”
“I was the same way. It doesn’t really catch your eye, so unless you’re looking for it, it’s easy to miss,” he said. “Then one day my grandpa took me here for my birthday and I’ve been coming ever since.”
You snickered. “Popular date spot then?”
Keishin cocked a brow. “What?”
“I mean, if you come here a lot, I’m sure it’s a go-to for dates,” you continued. “It even comes with a wholesome story about how your grandpa introduced you to it. Ultimate chick magnet.”
Keishin just rolled his eyes at you. “You know, contrary to popular belief, most girls don’t like it when you take them out to eat cheap ramen on a picnic table that’s falling apart.”
You chuckled. “I wasn’t going to say anything about the table, but I’m pretty sure I have at least ten splinters in my ass by now.”
“Yeah, this thing is torture. So eat fast and then we’ll move to the park across the street or something.”
Shoveling the rest of your food into your mouth, you ate fast while Keishin stared you down, every second that passed introducing your butt to a new world of pain. As soon as you were done, Keishin took both of your take-out bowls and tossed them into a nearby trashcan.
“Well, sucks for all those other girls then, because that ramen really is amazing,” you said when Keishin returned, the two of you crossing the street and heading into the park.
“Told you.” Keishin smiled. “I’m glad you liked it.”
Once in the park, which was empty considering it was dark out and most kids were in bed by then, the two of you picked a nearby bench that wasn’t splintering and took a seat.
Drawing your knees up to your chest, you wrapped your arms around your legs and sighed. “Thanks for dinner.”
“Yeah, no problem.” He let his head fall back and looked up at the night sky. “Damn, I could really go for an ice cold beer right now.”
“Well, we could start heading back now if you want,” you suggested. “The beers at the store are extra chilly since I didn’t stick my head in the fridges to cool off today, despite how sweltering it was.”
Keishin laughed. “Well, thank you for that,” he drew in a deep breath and relaxed into the bench, deciding whether to get up or not. “Let’s stay here for a while longer though.”
“Okay.”
Silence fell over the two of you as you stared up at the sky and listened to the sounds of Miyagi in the evening. You tried to remember the last time you had gone out like this—just going wherever you wanted and doing whatever you wanted. You couldn’t recall the last time . . . or even if there was a last time.
Tilting your head to look at Keishin, you smiled at the sight of him sitting with his eyes closed, arms crossed behind his head and head lolled back. He looked happy, almost as peaceful as he did when he was sleeping.
“Hey,” you whispered.
Keishin cracked an eye open to look at you. “Hmm?”
“Thanks for tonight.” You breathed in the scent of the night air and a feeling of content washed over you. “As you’ve probably already figured out, I don’t really have any friends. I don’t get to go out like this very often . . . or ever, really.”
“You don’t need to thank me. It’s what boyfriends are for, right?”
You giggled. “Well, considering you’re not my real boyfriend, I think a ‘thank you’ is in order.”
“Well, you’re welcome,” he caved. “Speaking of fake boyfriends, how’s it going with your parents?”
You let out a frustrated moan. “Oh, about as well as expected. When I mentioned I was seeing someone they bombarded me with a million questions, none of which were answered to their satisfaction.”
Keishin cringed. “So I’m that bad, huh?”
You scoffed. “If you think that’s bad, you should have seen their faces when I showed them a photo of you.”
Keishin let out a laugh. “Don’t tell me they weren’t fans of the piercings?”
“Oh, they weren’t fans of anything,” you said. “I think the only positive thing they could say about you was that you had a pulse . . . no offense.”
“Eh, no worries. At least they didn’t call me a burnout . . . then I would have started crying.”
“Hey!” You smacked at his shoulder again, managing to hit your target this time. “I said I was sorry.”
“Sorry doesn’t pay for my therapy.”
“Yeah, well, if you need therapy I doubt I’m the biggest reason.”
“You really are so cruel to me. Do your parents know you facilitate abusive relationships?”
You closed your eyes and shook your head. “That insinuates I’ve had past relationships, or any real ones.”
Keishin craned his neck to look at you, eyes wide. “Wait, you’ve never been in a relationship before? Like never?”
“Nope. I don’t even have any friends, so what makes you think anyone wants to date the boring girl with the crazy parents?”
Keishin looked at you like you were some wounded animal he had just found on the side of the road. You could see in his eyes he was slowly coming to terms with just how isolating your life was. You could tell he felt bad, but the last thing you wanted was his sympathy.
“Hey, don’t look at me like that,” you told him. “I’m not completely pathetic, okay? I still went through my experimental phase like most teenagers do. I just had to be very sneaky about it.”
“Sneaky?”
“You know, back of a car, other people’s houses when their parents were gone. As far as my parents know, I’m untainted . . . a precious, naive virgin. I’m just not very experienced.”
“I can imagine.” Keishin was a little thrown by the direction the conversation had taken, but you were both adults and he would be lying if he said he wasn’t a little curious, so he just rolled with it. “High school boys aren’t exactly known for being great in bed.”
The two of you let out a shared laugh at that. “You got that right,” you agreed.
“So, wait, no relationships but you’ve had sex? So you’ve never been with someone you have a genuine connection with?”
You eyed Keishin, perplexed by the sudden sincerity in his words. “You didn’t peg me as someone who cares about that kind of stuff.”
“I mean, I’ve had my fair share of one night stands, sure, but I’m not completely heartless,” he said, the eye contact he was using while he spoke sending a chill down your spine. “It’s completely different when it’s someone you care about. The experience is something everyone should have at least once in their lives.”
“I don’t think I’ve ever had a genuine connection with anyone before,” you confessed, unsure why you were spilling some of your deepest secrets in public, on a park bench, to a man you had only known for a couple of months. “It’s kind of hard when everyone is held at an arm’s length away.”
Without warning, Keishin shifted closer to you and placed his hand on your face, the pad of his thumb ghosting over your bottom lip. “I . . . I don’t know what to say,” he breathed.
“It’s not sad, not for me at least. You can’t miss something you’ve never had,” you spoke softly, worried you might scare him away if your voice was too loud or if you made any sudden movements. “No best friends, no boyfriends. Just me, my parents, and everyone else.”
Keishin looked like he wanted to say something; in fact, he looked like he wanted to say a lot of things, but despite this, he remained silent. Maybe he was worried about offending you, or maybe he was finally understanding just how different you were from other people. Maybe he didn’t like different.
“But now there’s you.” You flashed a small smile, hoping to draw him out of whatever mess was going on inside of his head. “I’ve never met someone like you before.”
“Someone like me?” he finally spoke.
You nodded as you placed your hand over the one he was resting on your cheek and held it. “I’m not your responsibility and yet you’re going out of your way to help me. Not to mention I don’t even deserve your help. You are the first truly selflessly kind person I’ve ever met. Thank you.”
“What if I’m not as kind as you think I am?” His hands found their way to your waist and he pulled you into his lap so you were straddling him. “What will you do then?”
“That depends on what you’re planning on doing.”
Hands running up your sides, Keishin dug his finger tips into your skin as you lowered your head toward his, mouths inches apart. “What if I took you home, laid you down, and took care of you like a boyfriend should?” You could feel his hot breath on your face as he spoke. “What if I took advantage of your lack of experience?”
“I would say thank you,” you said, inching closer. Before your lips met, however, you stopped yourself. “But I promised not to fall in love, and I think it would be awfully hard to keep my promise if you did that.” With that, you planted your hands on his shoulders and pushed yourself away from him before he could make a decision he would later regret.
Standing up, you collected yourself and drew in a deep breath. As soon as you had detached yourself from Keishin, you could see the fog that had been clouding his judgement dissipating as he came back to his senses.
“I should probably head home now.” You decided, not wanting to ruin the first actual friendship you had by doing something stupid and selfish.
“Yeah.” Keishin nodded, slowly standing up as well. It was clear he was slightly embarrassed by his actions, but you also noticed the glint in his eyes that gave away the part of him that still wanted to take you home with him.
Trying to immediately leave what had just happened in the past, you smiled and turned to start heading home, opting to take the longer way so you wouldn’t have to take the same route as Keishin. “Good night, Keishin.”
“Good night, Y/N.” You heard him call after you, but you didn’t look back at him. Instead, you kept walking, hoping the time apart would serve as a reset on your relationship and put things back to how they had been before that night.
A few weeks ago, you would have jumped at the chance Keishin had dangled in front of your face just now. But since then, you had realized he was more important to you than someone you could just throw away with a one night stand. And since there was no way the two of you could actually be together, this was the only option if you didn’t want to lose him.
If only someone had warned you that genuine connections were this complicated.

After all this time, I'm still into you (3)

Tumblr media
You woke up groggily, the events of the day before coming back to you in pieces as you solved the puzzle. Something fluttered in your stomach but you pushed it down. Looking at the clock you saw it showed 10:07. If you were going to get your errands done, you needed to be out of bed thirty minutes ago at the latest. You threw the covers off, stretching as you stood. First things first: laundry. You threw your clothes from the night before into your hamper, grabbing the few stragglers that lay around the room to be sure they made it in. Quickly throwing on an outfit, you grabbed the hamper and walked it down to the washing room. After you’d finished and hung up your clothes to dry, it was almost noon. You glanced at your pantry, seeing the dust that had begun collecting on some of the shelves and groaned. You needed to hand in your fixed report so groceries would just have to wait until later tonight.
You were jogging, it had taken longer than you’d expected to hand everything in and it was already past twelve. You came to a halt a block from Ichiraku and tried to steady your breathing. Looking down, you smoothed out your shirt and ran your hands over your hair before shaking your head. You were having lunch with a friend, you didn’t need to look perfect. Shaking your head, you looked up to see Shikamaru standing outside the ramen shop with an eyebrow raised.
“How are you always late to everything?” he chided as you walked up and ducked beneath the pulled back curtain into the small booth.
“Sorry, sorry, errands took longer than I thought.” You smiled at Teuchi behind the counter as you took a seat near the wall. Shikamaru sat next to you, your elbows bumping together in the small area. You willed your stomach not to flip at such a small thing, reminding yourself, once more, that you were friends, best friends.
“So, they took it with your corrections and everything?” Shikamaru looked up from the menu.
“Hm? Oh yeah, I got chewed out for making the mistake even though they already yelled at me for it when they first gave it back, but it’s whatever.”
He chuckled, “Maybe you’ll do it correctly next time.”
You slapped his arm, looking down at the menu to decide what you wanted. Once the two of you ordered, you turned to him. “So what have you done today? Been at all productive, or no?”
He glared at you, “I’ll have you know that I woke up early and went to training with Ino and Choji, so no comments on my laziness. I’ve earned the rest of the day off.”
“Oh so one morning training session earns you a half day off? Guess I should have at least 2 years of vacation stored up then.”
“Uh, yeah. And yet you’d never take any unless I made you. But don’t worry, I’m a giver.” He smirked at the last part.
You rolled your eyes, “Oh yes, it must be so hard, but thank god you make the sacrifice.” Your voice dripped with sarcasm.
He shrugged, “It’s my duty, otherwise I’d be hard at work right now.” That made you laugh out loud, something about the idea of Shikamaru working hard was unimaginable. “Hey, woah it’s not that funny, I do work hard sometimes.” That only made you snort.
“Mhmm yeah, you. Shikamaru Nara. Working hard at something? That’d be a site to s-”
“Y/N?” You heard a voice behind you, which made you turn your head.
“Oh, uh hey Kiba.” You smiled and brought a finger to your face, trying to quickly wipe the small tears at the corner of your eye.
He only glowered in response, looking between you and Shikamaru. “Already moved on, huh?”
Your brow furrowed, “What?” You glanced at Shikamaru whose face showed no emotion.
“I saw the way you used to look at him, you’re doing it now. I knew you had feelings for him the whole time.”
“Woah woah, I don’t know what you’re talking about.” He scoffed in response.
“Hey, I’m trying to have lunch with my friend, so you can kindly fuck off if you’re gonna be weird about it.” You started to turn back around before he piped up again.
“So were you fucking him behind my back or is this a new development?” he sneered, “I should’ve known when you said it just wasn’t working between us, can’t expect you to slow down, right?”
You felt like the air had been knocked out of you. “Excuse me?” You stood, raising an eyebrow at the boy in front of you, “I didn’t do what you’re accusing me of, but if you wanna do this in public, let’s do it,” Your smile was icy- you loved him, how could he ever accuse you of something like this?
“No,” he shook his head. “I’ve had enough of this, Y/N.”
“Enough of what?” Shikamaru’s drawl came from behind you, “Kiba, stop spouting off.”
“You shut your mouth!” Kiba exploded.
“You’re the one accusing people here!!” You yelled at him.
“Yeah because you’re the one on a date weeks after breaking up with me and acting all heartbroken.”
“So what if she’s on a date, Kiba, you don’t own the girl.”
“This isn’t a date and Shikamaru, stay the fuck out of this.” You gritted your teeth. The last thing you needed was another person involved in whatever this was.
“God, the two of you are so troublesome, you’re drawing a crowd. Kiba, just leave, you’re not going to accomplish anything here.”
The boy practically snarled at the two of you, baring his teeth before turning on his heel to stalk off. You were breathing heavy, fists clenched when you felt a hand on your shoulder. Rounding on Shikamaru you spat at him, “Why did you butt in? I didn’t ask you to say anything, now he’s definitely going to think I cheated on him. God!” You brought your hand to your forehead and squeezed hard.
“Hey, just.... sit back down. C’mon.” He guided you to your stool as you felt the lump in your throat that had been threatening to form.
“Why did he have to do that in public.... Now everyone will think I’m a cheater.” You stared at the counter in front of you.
“It’s Kiba, what could you expect? He’s a hotheaded idiot, I still can’t believe you even gave him the time of day, let alone dated him.”
“Really not the time, Shikamaru.” You pressed your fingers to your temples, “I didn’t need this today.” Your nerves were so shot that when Ayame placed your order in front of you, you jumped.
“Honestly, I really don’t think anyone is gonna think that.” His hand rested on your back now, but you were too preoccupied to think about it.
“God, I just, the worst part is that I still love him so much? Why would he....” tears reappeared at the corners of your eyes, this time stinging with anger and pain.
“Hey, look at me.” You continued staring at the bowl in front of you, afraid that if you moved, your composure would break and you’d be reduced to crying in public. “Y/N, I need you to look at me, right now.” Shikamaru’s voice was firm and unwavering, but you could only shake your head softly. You sensed him stand up beside you before he turned your body and enveloped you in a hug. Your face hidden, tears spilled quickly onto his shirt, it was short but needed. You clenched your fist, digging your nails into your palm to ground you before taking a deep breath and untangling yourself from Shikamaru. When you looked up, his cheeks were flushed, likely from secondhand embarrassment.
You smiled sheepishly, “Sorry about that, didn’t mean to fall apart on you!” you wiped your face quickly, turning to your bowl of food, “Better eat before it gets cold!” You forced an upbeat tone into your voice, trying to hide how you felt. Shikamaru sat down beside you and you felt his gaze still on you. “I’m okay, really, I just.... Having a bad day I guess.” You took a bite of your food and swallowed it, willing the lump in your throat to disappear. “Anyways, I overheard that your team is being sent out on a mission soon, do you know what it’s for?” Looking up, his eyes were studying you, picking you apart as only he could.
He turned to his own food, picking up noodles on his chopsticks before replying, “I think it’s something about retrieving some stolen information, but I’m not sure. I didn’t really read the message they sent me, just looked at when we’re leaving.”
“Which is?” You took another bite, beginning to realize how hungry you were.
“Tomorrow morning.” He took a bite and your eyes lingered on his lips a second longer than a friend’s eyes should.
“Oh, so you probably need to get ready, I guess just lunch for today then.”
“Tch, you’re not getting out of it that easily. Especially after what just happened.”
You rolled your eyes, taking another bite before replying, “Please, it was a momentary lapse for me, I’m really alright and if you need to cut out to prepare, I can just take a rain check.”
He shook his head. “You trying to weasel out of this is tiring and it’s making me need the time off even more.”
You sighed, “Fine fine,” you held up your hands, finished with your meal, “lemme know when you’re ready to go.”
He looked up, mildly shocked, “You’re already done?”
Shrugging you grinned at him, “Need the fuel to keep me energized.”
He simply sighed and began eating faster. You took the opportunity to ask Ayame for the bill. By the time you’d paid, Shikamaru had finished his own serving and was standing waiting for you. “Ready?” you asked. He nodded and the two of you began walking. You talked to Shikamaru, going on about something Ino had said recently, not really paying much attention to where you were going. This made it all the more surprising when you looked around and realized you were in the woods, surrounded by trees. “Shikamaru? Where are we?”
He chuckled, “Took you long enough to realize.”
Your heart was pounding as you realized you must be in the Nara woods. “Hey uh, I’m not gonna get trampled and beaten up by your deer right?”
“As long as you don’t annoy me, no. You’re here with me, they won’t bother you.” You couldn’t help but glance around the trees, noticing the eyes that blended in with the scenery. You shifted closer to Shikamaru as you walked, feeling the deer watch you. You felt bad as you bumped against his arm for the fourth time, hearing him sigh. Suddenly there was a weight on your shoulder and you were pulled to the side. “There. Will you calm down now? It’s clear you’re not a threat, they just watch everyone, it’s their thing.”
You nodded in reply, but your heart rate had only sped up now that his arm was around you. Thankfully you came to a clearing of soft grass where the sun shone perfectly. You couldn’t help the soft gasp that fell from your lips as you stepped into the area.
Shikamaru chuckled beside you, “Yeah, this is my secret spot.”
You thwaked his side softly with your arm, “Shikamaru Nara. I cannot believe you never showed me this!”
“Well then it wouldn’t have been secret now would it?” he grinned at you, but you were busy staring around the clearing.
“It’s so beautiful,” you breathed out.
“Yeah....”
You crouched down, running your hands through the soft grass before stretching yourself out. “Well? If we’re gonna relax, let’s relax.”
He chuckled, looking down at you, “Alright fine, but I brought you here to make sure you’d relax, so no fidgeting.” He laid down perpendicular to you, resting his head on your thighs. Feeling your heart rate spike again, you shifted and put one arm behind your head. Your foot was still bouncing softly until Shikamaru reached out and grabbed it. “Stop fidgeting,”
You blushed, “Sorry, I didn’t realize.” He sighed in response and your hand one made its way down to his hair. You had to continue moving somehow, this was the least offensive option. Before touching his hair you made sure to ask, “You okay with this?” When he hummed in response, you began to slowly fiddle with his hair, making sure not to pull on it. It was nice, you hadn’t done this in years, but it felt natural. The sun on your skin warmed your entire body and the grass was softer than any you’d felt. There was a soft breeze that carried some kind of floral scent and the clouds were floating by serenely above. You felt more relaxed than you had in years, and as your mind drifted you felt the urge to tell Shikamaru how you felt. He had a right to know, and you had a right to make your feelings known. You knew he didn’t feel the same, and you’d made your peace with that. “Shikamaru?”
“Mm?” he hummed quietly in response.
“You ever think about how insignificant we are in the world?”
He snorted, “Y/N what are you on?”
“I don’t quite know,” you watched the clouds drift by above, “I think I just wanna talk to you,” you wove a few strands of his hair carefully through your fingers.
“As long as I don’t have to respond,” you tugged lightly on his hair in response.
“So you don’t mind if I just talk mindlessly to you?”
“No, I don’t mind Y/N. Feel free to babble about whatever you’d like.”
You smiled at his word choice, “Okay, well I feel like I owe you the truth especially after earlier today,” He only sighed, waiting for you to continue. “What Kiba said wasn’t actually that crazy, I realized last night that....” you paused, taking a deep breath, “I have feelings for you and they aren’t friend feelings,” you rushed your next words, making sure to get them out before he could reply, “I tried to get over it, but.... I’m still into you.” You stared straight up, focusing on a misshapen cloud that was floating lazily overhead.
“Is that all?” Shikamaru’s voice sounded mildly amused.
“Yeah, just.... thought I’d tell you,” you felt more comfortable, especially since he hadn’t sat up or pulled away. You closed your eyes, enjoying the feeling of not hiding anything.
“Well, I guess you ought to know that I feel the same.” His voice didn’t change at all and he sounded almost bored.
Your heart stopped and your eyes snapped open, but you didn’t move. “You.... do?”
“Mhm.”
“Oh, okay.” you paused, unsure of what to do next. You felt Shikamaru shift and you sat up. You looked into his eyes, noticing his slight smirk as you waited for his next move.
His hand was resting on your thigh and he looked down at it before speaking, “I guess the next thing is for me to ask you out,” his thumb traced soft circles across your leg, “what a drag.”
“Well seeing as I confessed, shouldn’t I be the one to ask you out?” You raised an eyebrow, grinning at him. “So Shikamaru,” he shook his head, chuckling as you continued, “will you go out with me?”
He looked up and grinned, “I’d love to.”
Your heart swelled as you reached out and cupped his face, softly stroking his cheek. You sighed, “Maybe it’s too early, but.... I think I love you Shikamaru Nara.”
A blush covered his usually reserved features as he shifted to hide his face against your stomach, “Troublesome woman,” You laughed and tangled your fingers in his hair as you laid back again. “I think I love you too.” he murmured softly into your skin. The smile on your face wouldn’t go away as you closed your eyes, relishing in the feeling of happiness that washed over you.
“So does this mean you’ll start paying for meals?”
“Not if you keep losing, our rule still stands.”
You hummed, softly running your hands through his hair. “Mm fine. When’s our next rematch then? I need to know so I can get your dad to teach me.”
His head appeared above you, his ponytail messy from your fingers, “You wanna come over tonight?”
You smiled at his eagerness, “Shikamaru, I don’t think your mom would take kindly to me bumming two meals in a row off you guys.” You reached up, caressing his face.
He leaned into your hand and smirked, “Please, you know she loves you, more than me.”
You raised an eyebrow, “Maybe it’s because I don’t lay around her house and mutter things under my breath when she asks for help.”
“You’re so rude,” He frowned, “maybe I won’t go out with you.”
You pulled his head to your shoulder, “Then I’ll just have to pester you until you do.”
“You would wouldn’t you,” he melted into you and you smiled at his weight on your body.
“Mhmm. If I have to come throw rocks at your window every night, I will.” You pressed a soft kiss on the side of his head. “If that’s what it will take, then that’s just what I’ll have to do. But it would be so very troublesome,” you threw his favorite phrase back at him to which he only huffed, “so please don’t make me.”
“Fine. But come over tonight?” He murmured into your ear, his hot breath making goosebumps run their way down your body.
You twirled the short hair at the nape of his neck as you thought about it, “Alright, I guess you’ve convinced me.”
He shifted and pressed a small kiss to your cheek. “Whoever thought I’d be the one having to force you to do things?”
“Quite a change of pace hmm?”
He rolled onto his back and pulled your body close to his, “Well then, I’ll have to make sure to beat you next time we compete so we can balance things out again.”
“I’m looking forward to it.” You nuzzled into his chest, and everything felt right. Breathing in his soft and familiar smell, you felt yourself drifting in the afternoon sun. The next thing you knew, soft kisses were being pressed against your head as you heard Shikamaru murmuring your name. Your eyelids fluttered open and you tilted your head to look up at him. A drowsy smile adorned his lips which you mirrored.
“Hi,” he breathed out.
You laughed softly, “Hi,” you felt like a schoolgirl again, shy and soft.
“How was your nap?”
“Wonderful, you make a great pillow.” You both sat up. Shifting to straddle him, you threw your arms around his shoulders. The sun was setting and it was catching on his hair just perfectly. You leaned forward and pressed your forehead to his, taking a deep breath. “I think this is the happiest I’ve been in awhile.”
“Oh really? All because of me?” His lips were tilted up in a cocky smirk.
You leaned forward slowly, lips barely brushing his and breathed out, “All because of you.” before pushing your lips against his. The way you two moved against each other was natural. You felt his hands grip your hips as you pulled away for air. A soft breeze blew past, alerting you to how flushed your face was as the cool air hit your cheeks. You leaned your head back to look up at the sky, noticing the stars beginning to shine above. “We should probably get back, seems our day off has ended.”
Shikamaru sighed, tugging you closer to him, “What a drag, how about five more minutes?”
You smiled, and tapped his nose with your finger, “C’mon lazy, let’s go.” You stood and held your hands out to him. He took them and you pulled him up, lingering there, fingers tangled together before you began pulling him back towards the village.
“That’s the wrong way, genius.” He laughed and pulled you the other way and you smiled sheepishly.
“Sorry, guess you just make my head spin so much I don’t know which ways which.”
He groaned, “Please tell me that’s the only dumb line you’re gonna use.”
“Well, I got lost in your eyes, but since you know where you’re going I’ll just follow your lead.” You were grinning up at him, a shit eating grin plastered across your face. You opened your mouth, about to continue, but he cut you off quickly with a kiss.
“Dork,” he muttered, throwing an arm around your shoulder. You began walking back the way you’d come, offering up different terrible pick up lines whenever they came to you. By the time you came to the road you were sure he was questioning his earlier decision of saying yes to you, the only thing betraying otherwise was the slight upturn of the corner of his mouth. You turned towards his house, seeing the lights on, and you were struck by how much had changed in 24 hours. It felt crazy, but it also felt right. Shikamaru groaned beside you, pinching the bridge of his nose with his fingers.
“You okay?”
“I just don’t wanna have to tell my parents about us, my mom’s gonna be insufferable about it.”
You stopped walking, “Well, I don’t have to come over, really it’s fine. We spent the whole day together.”
“No no,” he pressed his forehead to yours, “I want you to come over.”
“Okay well then we don’t have to tell your parents about us.”
He shifted from foot to foot, clearly thinking, “Hmm, I guess so.”
You laughed and pushed him away, “Then we’re back to platonic for tonight.”
“One more kiss? Just to tide me over.” He raised an eyebrow.
You rolled your eyes, unable to stop yourself from smiling at the request, “Hmm, I guess so.” You mocked him as he stepped closer and tilted your head up with his index finger, kissing you soft and slow.
He pulled away, dropping his hand from your chin, “Ready for another friendly dinner? Emphasis on the friend part.”
“I am, let’s go,” you both walked up to his front door and he opened it for you, the smell of mackerel wafting out the door, “You just keep winning today huh?” You glanced at him, knowing how much he loved the food, but he only grinned in response.
You walked in and were greeted by Yoshino who was visibly surprised to see you. “Oh, Y/N, Shikamaru didn’t tell me we were expecting you back again tonight!”
You blushed, embarrassed, “I’m sorry for the intrusion ma’am. I don’t have to stay for dinner, it's not a big deal!” You turned to Shikamaru ready to bid him goodbye but he didn’t look at you.
“It’s fine, I’m sure we have enough for you, right mom?”
“Yes, of course! That’s not at all what I meant!” Yoshino rushed to assure you, “I was just surprised is all. Well, Shikamaru come and help me serve the food, your dad is just getting changed out of his work clothes. Feel free to sit down, Y/N.” Shikamaru smiled at you, touching the small of your back softly before continuing through to the kitchen. You walked over to the shogi board that was still out, observing the game that was leftover from the night before, the one that had led to lunch this afternoon, where you’d seen Kiba.... had it really been this afternoon that that had happened? You still felt terrible about it, but the sound of Shikaku entering the room forced you to push your thoughts aside.
“Ah, Y/N! Back to join us?”
You smiled and nodded, “Yes sir, also, real quick, I was wondering, do you think you could tell me why I lost this game last night?”
He grinned, “Ah, want to know what you should’ve done to beat him?”
“Yes sir.” You took a seat where Shikamaru had sat and Shikaku took your position.
“Well, it looks like when you moved your lance, you left yourself open to attack, and from there you were bound to end up in checkmate. You should have left your lance where it was,” he began explaining how you should’ve gone about capturing Shikamaru’s pieces. You tried to pay attention, you really did, but shogi was just so boring and so much had happened that your mind began wandering on its own. “And then he would’ve been stuck in checkmate and you would’ve won.” Shikaku finished his explanation looking up at you.
You looked up and nodded, “I’ll be honest I don’t know if I got all that but I think some of it stuck somewhere in my brain so thank you.”
He bobbed his head, frowning, “Well, if you’d like me to train you, you know where to find me, I’m always up to help you beat Shikamaru.” He smiled and stood, “Now, we should probably make our way to dinner before Yoshino gets angry.”
You stood and followed him through to see Shikamaru putting the plates out with a dish towel thrown over his shoulder. He looked so domestic it made you smile. He glanced up at you and you felt your stomach flip as he flashed you a smirk. You sat in the same place you had the night before, and made polite conversation as you ate. The topic of your day came up and you were forced to confess how Shikamaru had forced you to go cloud watching with him.
“Oh, so he roped you into his lazy antics as well?” Yoshino glared at Shikamaru who only shrugged.
You laughed, “Yes, but I think I was in need of a day off so it wasn’t unwelcome.”
“Who isn’t, I could use a day off. How about we go cloud watching, honey?” Shikaku smiled at his wife.
“Hm, I don’t know about cloud watching, but you could stand to take some time off as well.” You admired the way they were so comfortable with each other, going back and forth. Seeing how clearly they loved each other caused you to look fondly across the table at Shikamaru.
Yoshino spoke up, “You know, I was always so sure you two would get together.”
“Mom!”
You flushed bright red and stared down at your food, trying hard to suppress your smile.
Yoshino held her hands up, “I’m only being honest.” Shikamaru groaned and took a bite of his food, his cheeks red like yours, “Some things just make sense and I always thought the two of you were one of those things.”
You laughed awkwardly, unsure of how to proceed when a bird flew in through the open window, saving you from any further conversation. Shikaku stood and retrieved the message from the bird who left the same way it had entered.
“It’s for you, Shikamaru.” He handed the small scroll to him before returning to his seat.
Shikamaru unrolled it and began reading before he sighed, “They moved up the time for the mission, we’re leaving in a few hours, what a drag.”
You all quickly finished your meal, making sure that you helped to clean up before saying goodnight. Shikamaru walked you to the front porch, closing the door behind him. He pulled you in for a hug, arms circling your waist and his head resting on your shoulder as you slowly stroked up and down his back. “Can’t believe we just got together and I have to leave for a mission, how troublesome.” He murmured into your hair.
You laughed, “Well you were fine before we were together, I’m sure you’ll be fine this time as well.” You pulled back and cupped his face, “Just, make sure you come back to me, you know?” You leaned up and kissed him, soft and slow just like he had kissed you earlier.
“Of course,” he kissed your forehead before letting you go. As you walked away, you turned and glanced back. He was leaning against the house watching you, a lit cigarette hanging from his lips and smoke curling around his head. You grinned, shaking your head before you continued on your way, happiness blooming in your chest.

“Seokjin, how could you do this to me?” You whine from the kitchen island, reflexively stabbing at the bowl of cereal in front of you. You can’t believe your roommate is just now telling you, a day before he leaves for vacation, that his “friend” will be temporarily moving in while he’s away. Of course, Seokjin pays no mind to your tantrum. Instead, he continues packing the last of his luggage in the living space, across the room. Simply rolling his eyes and heaving a sigh in response, he’s far more acquainted with your antics than he’d like to be. He could almost call you the younger sibling he most certainly never wanted, a nuisance wrapped in feigned misery. The arrangement between the two of you seemed nothing more than the result of a last-ditch Craigslist roommate search.
He should have known the consequences, he supposes.
Another sigh escapes his lips as he turns his attention away from the luggage. “_____, I’m only leaving for three months.”
You wail again, this time, your arms stretching across the cool, granite counter to push the bowl away from yourself. You’ve wholly lost your appetite, ready to wreak havoc as you slide off the stool you’re sat on and stomp your way over to him.
“I don’t care about you leaving me!” Seokjin scoffs at this statement, returning his focus to the open suitcase laid on the floor in front of him. “I care about you stuffing me in this apartment with a complete stranger while you’re gone.” What was the fucker’s name again? Jon Q, John Cook? You’re furious, but of course, Seokjin fails to take notice of this. Instead, he fishes into his pocket for his phone and scrolls through his extensive list of items to pack. He’s only gotten through half of it.
Your words don’t seem to have much of an impact on him, fueling your fury. “What if he tries to murder me? Or even worse, what if I end up murdering him? You won’t even be here to help me hide the body— this is a travesty!” This is followed with another signature sigh, all drama, your wrist shooting up to your forehead as you dab at invisible sweat.
You briefly think you might actually hate Seokjin.
He pauses, dropping his phone into the open luggage before craning his head towards you. Blinking, purely baffled by the lunacy he has to constantly put up with, he internally gives his utmost gratitude to the heavens that his work has sent him on this European trip tomorrow. Three clean months of the peaceful canals of Venice, the Colosseum in Rome, the Eiffel Tower in Paris and most importantly, three lovely quiet months away from you. Suddenly, three months no longer seems an eternity to him. How could it? He assesses you top to bottom, seeing nothing more than a rabid young woman scorned, hands placed sternly on her hips, expectant of a reply.
No sir, three months is not long enough at all.
Seokjin pinches the bridge of his nose between his thumb and forefinger, squeezing his eyes shut as he speaks through gritted teeth. “You are the most melodramatic person I know— you think you can afford to pay my rent for the next three months?” This shuts you up momentarily.
For a moment, you’re disarmed. You can’t argue that he’s right, and you hate admitting it’s the only reason for your new (temporary) roommate.
Releasing his nose, he looks at you, warming a little. “Look, he asked to stay here -temporarily- until he finds his own place. He’s my best friend; wouldn’t you do the same for yours?”
That final bit had the effect he wanted it to, and boy, did it sting. Of course, you’d do the same for your best friend. The only trouble is that you know very little information about this John Cook character, only getting brief details about him moving into the big city for the first time and Seokjin “graciously” providing him a rental until he can find something more permanent. It isn’t a fault on Seokjin’s half. You just don’t know the poor bastard.
Beyond that, you know this guy is a Taekwondoin, moving here to join one of the most prestigious Taekwondo academies in the country. Your blood runs cold in a sudden rush, a certain grim realization dawning on you that you’d absolutely be no match for him if he did try to kill you. Perhaps Seokjin has told you so late because he too wants you dead. You really shouldn’t have met him through Craiglist.
You consider leaving a lengthy, final Tumblr post in remembrance of your inevitable end, hoping one of your 12 followers would come forth and save you from a gruesome slashing. At best, someone saves your life. At worst, you’ve written your own eulogy.
Huffing a breath of frustration, something akin to a groan escapes you as you march back to the kitchen island for your now soggy bowl of cereal. It only fuels your now quiet rage further, but pettiness takes over, mentally muting Seokjin’s yelling profanities after watching you dispose of one of his favourite glass bowls. It’s the least you can do as revenge.
Tumblr media
As it turns out, Jeon Jungkook is a nearly six feet tall mural of muscle and inked skin that rarely stays home. His dark wavy hair falls gracefully past his large doe eyes, and his plethora of tattoos litter the tight expanse of his neck and arms. Notably, the blossom of two red roses painted over the porcelain of his neck.
Though verbally a silent roommate, you find he vapes far too much and equally plays far too much Fortnite at odd hours of the night. He only comes out of his room to either make himself food or to leave the apartment, and a couple of times you could have almost sworn he might’ve been doing his laundry. He’s a feast to lay eyes on, that much is irrefutable but he leaves at least one utensil unwashed after eating, irritating you to an unprecedented degree.
Jungkook also enjoys eating ramen at two in the morning- you know this because it wakes you up almost every time you hear the microwave blare its oppressive siren. He also figures he must shower each time he returns home from being out, suitably fattening your poor water bill. You’ve only briefly spoken to him a handful of times, mostly about house rules and a tour of the facilities.
It’s only been two weeks since he’s arrived, yet you already seem to despise him- sending Seokjin angry messages from across the globe about this, all of which have been ignored. You’ve been too busy lately anyway, rarely seeing Jungkook who seems to be out for most of the day.
However, it’s today that you finally catch him when you’re just coming home from work. He sits at the kitchen island, flipping through a comic while he loudly chomps on an open bag of shrimp chips, pausing to look at you as you make your way inside.
You’re on speakerphone with your friend Nari, both of your arms too occupied and laden with groceries to normally hold the phone to your ear. Upon seeing this, Jungkook gets up from his seat and immediately rushes to lend a hand. He’s completely shirtless, his loose dark sweatpants hugging the low subtle curve of his hips, and it’s only then that you notice the mosaic of more tattoos scattered across his skin beyond his full sleeves and the two red roses on his neck. He has much more than you had initially seen, a large black and white snake running over his pelvic bone. It draws your eyes forward, let’s it linger over to his bare abdomen, untouched with ink and defined with muscle. You can see it evidently, the indents carved into him as if he’s been sculpted from the finest of limestone.
You catch yourself from staring, thanking him with a silent bow of your head as he turns away from you, all the bags of groceries now racked effortlessly down his taut arms. Your momentary and involuntary ogling is cut short by Nari’s voice booming through the loudspeaker of your phone.
“God, you really need to get laid soon- I’m tired of you being so grumpy.” You freeze, nearly choking on your own saliva. “I already deal with one grump on a daily, I don’t need to add another to my inventory.”
Fuck. “Yeah, well, working on it!” You titter nervously into the microphone. It’s all in vain, for Nari is relentless in her pursuits.
“Didn’t you say your new roommate was hot? Just fuck him, that’d be pretty convenient. It’s like, like...dick-on-demand!” She laughs, guffawing into the mic as though it’s the most hilarious thing she has ever said. You stand there, eyes wide and mortified as the cackle from the other end of the line sounds more villainous than genuine humour. Her words linger still in the air, and a very deep desire to Crtl+Z yourself from life’s current existence fills your petrified body.
You know Jungkook has heard the words because he pauses in his step very briefly, faint stutters in his movement as his back stays turned towards you. Before you catch the slightest motion of his head about to look over his shoulder, you’re whipping around and fumbling for your phone. With the greatest deft you can muster, your thumbs desperately try smashing the giant red ‘end call’ button.
To no avail, the phone screen freezes, Nari’s cackling report still filing through.
You think this feels like a nightmare. In fact, you’re certain you’ve had a nightmare precisely like this before. Except this is real, very much real and you’re humiliated. cheeks surely flushed crimson as you tut in annoyance at your malfunctioning product of capitalism.
Jungkook simply clears his throat and continues moving towards the kitchen once again, acting as if nothing has happened. Under any other circumstances, you would almost be offended, but given the current nature of what has just transpired, you both let the feeling pass. “Anyway,” Nari continues and you wish she’d shut up. “I gotta go, Yoongi just got Minecraft and I’m going to give him the best head of his life,” she groans into the mic in satisfaction. “I love you, bye!” She cuts the mic, completely and blissfully unaware of the impending Armageddon she’s inadvertently spawned. You’re stood there in horrified silence, counting to five in your head before you’re very anxiously swivelling around.
You open your mouth to say something, but words fail you. What could you even say?
Jungkook cuts in. “I’ll uh, put these away. Don’t worry about it.” He beams you a rather charming grin, completely devoid of any awkward tension that filled the air moments ago. Somehow, this surprises you far more than if he had acknowledged it.
You thank him with haste, your feet acting much quicker than your head as you swiftly cut across the kitchen towards the hallway where your bedroom stands. Avoiding eye contact at all costs, your face is surely now painted just as red as Jungkook’s bag of shrimp chips on the counter.
Perhaps it’s to ease yourself more than anything that you decide to get angry over this situation. You’re not angry at Nari, no, you’re angry at Jungkook. Who was he to waltz into your apartment and have you monitor your phone calls? And be shirtless nonetheless? Had he no manners? Why should you have to tiptoe around him? You think if this were Seokjin, he wouldn’t nearly make everything so uncomfortable for you in your own place of living. Seokjin would also wash all his dishes and sleep at a reasonable time. This thought only fuels you more.
The words slip out of you before you can even comprehend stopping. “For Christ’s sake wear a shirt while I’m home, I don’t need to see you prancing half naked around the apartment. This isn’t Magic Mike, it’s home- my home.” You bark, halting Jungkook in his movements as he goes to place a new carton of milk into the fridge. He turns to look at you, the dangle of his silver earrings glinting against the light and you almost grimace at how attractive he looks in this moment.
Before he can respond, you’re pivoting away from him and walking towards your bedroom.
You slam your door with a thud and let out a strangled groan. Perhaps it was too harsh, the anger is now replaced with further distress. You toss yourself onto your mattress, stuffing your face into the nearest pillow and restraining yourself with every ounce of self-control you have from screaming your lungs out into it.
You hadn’t even called Jungkook hot, you had mentioned that he was conventionally attractive- which wasn’t a lie in the slightest. You’re half tempted to call her back and scold her good for the humiliation she’s so blissfully unaware of causing, but as you pick up your phone, a text flashes across your screen with a name you’re all too familiar with. And all too soon, your agitation grinds to a halt, dissipates and metamorphosizes into a goofy, toothy grin.
Taehyung - [1 New Text Message]
Kim Taehyung works just across the room from you on the seventh floor of the accounting firm. He has rich blonde hair and plump pink lips that he constantly wets with a dab of his tongue. You swear he’s been purposely winding you up recently, the brushes against your skin too frequent, the lingering stares too prolonged and the husk in his voice too low when he speaks to you. You’ve had a crush on Taehyung since you’ve started working at the firm, two years ago. Of course, he’s completely unaware of this.
5:44pm [Taehyung]: Hey, can I ask you for a favour?
The squeal you let out is unbearable, even to you. You feel the reminiscence of being back in middle school when your sixth-grade crush, Park Jimin had asked you to the Halloween dance. Of course, that night had ended terribly for you, catching Jimin and your rival, Sooya slow dancing while you went to get unnaturally lukewarm fruit punch from the snack bar. But much like right now, you remember the butterflies fluttering through your entire body the night before the dance.
Feeling the crimson warmth return to your cheeks, you clutch your phone to your chest while a coy smile stretches across your lips. You practice your well-rehearsed, five-minute wait before texting Taehyung back, typing and retyping your response until you’re satisfied with a legible reply. Pursing your lips, you go back and forth between adding a smiley face or not, ultimately choosing to go with one just to further the delusions in your head that adding one will somehow make him fall madly in love with you.
5:50pm [You]: of course you can! :)
You gasp when your phone vibrates within seconds, a giddy coo leaving you as his name flashes once more across your screen. You slap a hand over your mouth when you hear the footsteps of Jungkook pass by your door, your eyes darting towards the shadow of his feet seen just underneath the crack of your door. His room- rather Seokjin’s room- is right next door to yours, another unfortunate occurrence in your miserable life.
5:50pm [Taehyung]: Could you possibly drop me off at the airport tomorrow morning? I’ll treat you to breakfast on the way!!
Your grin grows tenfold, your teeth clutching your bottom lip in its hold as you glide your fingers over the keyboard with an answer.
5:52pm [You]: it’d be my pleasure!!
It seems as if everyone but you and Jungkook were going away on vacation from this hell city. Perhaps you may be in need of one too.
Tumblr media
You drop Taehyung off at the airport at five in the morning. You think it should be illegal for anyone to wake up at such an hour. You hadn’t had much time to sleep, Jungkook’s nightly ramen snacking occurring at exactly two in the morning, just two hours before you were supposed to be awoken by the chirps of your alarm. As if the morning couldn’t have gotten any worse, you had learned Taehyung was travelling abroad to meet his very long-term and long-distance girlfriend for the first time. Your luck seems to have worsened as you’ve aged. All the signs you thought you’d seen of him visibly showing his interest in you had all been in your head.
By the time you reach home, it’s six, the sun barely peeking through the hillside view from your apartment and your eyes are droopy, heavy with sleep. A yawn escapes you as you place your keys on the kitchen counter before you kick off your shoes and shuffle towards the living room in a slump. You plop onto the couch, releasing a long exhale as you lift your feet up to lay more comfortably.
Briefly, you think you should stay up and get your day started, as you reckon most people who have their shit together would do as such. Unfortunately for your itinerary, you’re not most people and you’re certainly not someone who has their shit together. You’re _____ and you’re now dreaming, dreaming of a single Kim Taehyung.
His mouth is on yours, golden locks under the tight grip of your fingers and his cock is steadily rocking into you, fingers digging into your sides. He has you seated on the bathroom counter, your legs circled around his waist as his sharp thrusts elicit the neediest of cries from you.
“Taehyung!” You’re moaning, eyes rolled so far back into your skull, you feel the pull of your optic nerve. Loosening your grip on Taehyung’s hair, he moves away from your mouth and rests his forehead in the crook of your neck. Every curve of his dick plunges in calculated fashion into your cunt, egging you closer to your undoing.
Another sharp thrust has your entire body shuddering, a lapse of jitters filling you as your orgasm rumbles through you. When Taehyung lifts his head from the crook of your neck, you gasp. For when you look at his face, it’s no longer Taehyung, it’s now Jungkook.
He offers a lopsided smirk, an indent of his dimple forming around the right side of his mouth while a finger trails down your cheek.
“Wake up,” the apparition whispers.
You gasp awake, spine shooting upright as you heave heavy breaths. Skimming your hands over your face, you let out a frustrated groan, bewilderment and daze hitting you as you land right back to reality.
“Shit, sorry, I didn’t mean to wake you.” You hear a low voice and you immediately shriek, arms hugging yourself in a mock attempt to hide yourself even if you are fully clothed at the moment. You look over, glancing at the tall, frozen figure stood in the kitchen. His doe eyes are wide, startled by your reaction, dark hair wavy and long, clinging around the edge of his pale face and you can see the faintest trace of the red ink on his neck underneath the loose collar of his black hoodie. He’s got a knife in one hand and a half-cut tomato laid on a cutting board in front of him. “I-I was going to wake you up for lunch but…” His face has suddenly flushed to a shade of rose, tongue swiftly dabbing at his bottom lip. He clears his throat and hesitates before looking away. “Y-you seemed engrossed in your sleep, I didn’t want to wake you up.” What was that supposed to mean?
When you look behind him, the pot on the stove is steaming and it’s then that you catch the aroma of sauteed onions and oregano. Naturally, your mouth instantly waters, eyes glancing over to the digital clock that displays itself on the stove. It reads as five minutes past noon and you rub your eyes with the back of your hand before you’re blinking towards the time again. Had you really passed out for a solid six hours? How long had Jungkook been here? “You...don’t have work today?” You swallow, slowly raising up your feet.
Jungkook merely chuckles and shakes his head no. The silver of his dangling earrings swings with this motion. “I’m not working yet, I’m a student at Master Seong’s.” You had almost forgotten about the Taekwondo Academy, it’s the exact reason he’s now standing here in your kitchen cutting tomatoes. “Hopefully, I’ll be the one teaching by next year.” As he speaks, you notice he has a perfect set of pearly whites but then you think of course he does- anything that would make Jeon Jungkook less perfect at this point would be a micropenis. For whatever reason, that makes your blood boil but as much as you’re in disdain, the thought instantly brings attention to a sweltering puddle between your legs.
Your head shoots down, feet shifting uncomfortably as you feel a slick cling against your panties and it’s then that every aspect of your sex dream hits you in a movie montage. You had fully and wholeheartedly dreamt of Jungkook fucking you.
You gasp, unwillingly, feet losing balance before you catch yourself against the counter. Jungkook pauses and looks at you, a tentative eyebrow cocking in your direction in question.
“Is everything alright?” He asks, more curious than considerate. His voice seems to ebb and flow with the sultry ease that only he could— my god, maybe you do need to get laid.
You use your elbows to push yourself off the counter before you’re walking over to the stove, body brushing against Jungkook’s back as you reach for the vent switch.
“Next time you cook something, turn on the exhaust fan or else it’ll get smokey in here.” You say, voice stoic like ice in this smothering heat, ignoring the blatant arousal seeping out of your cunt. You brush past him once more to make way towards the hallway.
Jungkook sighs in defeat, watching as your figure disappears into your bedroom.
Tumblr media
The moth outside your window bats against the patio light with a fierce determination that boggles your mind. You wonder what might be going through the moth’s head: does it ponder this alien, man-made warmth it now feverishly flutters around? Does it understand it in the slightest? Why else would such a simple creature be breaking the peace of a sticky midsummer’s eve?
You glance at the clock on your dresser. It’s now half past midnight, and you’re dying in this stupid heat. Perhaps it didn’t help that you had a six-hour nap, impressed by your ability to do so in broad daylight. And you can’t get it out of your head, the dream. It’s kept you horny all day- in need of relief. You think about the last time you’ve had sex, a one night stand with a tall, polite gentleman named Namjoon. It was quite possibly the best sex you’ve ever had, a shame you never caught his number.
With a less than pathetic groan of protest, you put your head between the pillow and the mattress, savouring the seconds of coolness that surround your head in a desperate bid to lower the temperature however you can. Something’s got to be better than stringing sex and a fucking invertebrate into the same train of thought this late at night.
Raising your head up from the pillow, you weigh your options. You’re not about to drink yourself to sleep, and your secret supply of ZzzQuil has run dry. Fortunately, you have a solution.
It’s nights like tonight that you can’t hold yourself back, orgasms helped you sleep better anyway. Your vibrator mocks you, blinking as it charges for the first time in weeks. You hear Jungkook shuffle on the other side of the room, your teeth gnawing at your bottom lip as you quietly reach your bedside table for a pair of headphones. You grasp at odds and ends until your fingers find purchase, and with a small sense of victory, you pull a very tangled mess of headphones from the drawer. You hear a cough on the other side and pause, gulping as if you’re fourteen all over again and just discovered the fruits of pleasuring yourself for the first time.
The vibrator’s LED light switches to a solid green, indicating its readiness to abuse your very untouched clit. You flush at the thought, yet eager as the familiar moisture pools in between your legs. You’re suddenly all too ready, all too demanding of the touch of a toy that you haven’t felt in too long. Why had you been putting this off for so long?
Unplugging it from the outlet next to your bed, you slip off your shorts and lay comfortably back onto your mattress. Another blush creeps onto your cheeks, your thumb unlocking your phone and opening the Chrome app. Making sure to switch to a private browser, you hesitantly type it in.
‘Pornhub’
The link loads embarrassingly quickly and you flush further, a mix of both the heat and your self chagrin marking the apples of your cheeks. You don’t even know what to look for, the home page overwhelming you with a variety of sinful thumbnails, begging to be clicked on. It almost makes you grimace in distaste, suddenly too aware of your surroundings and the situation at hand. You decide against pornography, gripping onto your imagination as you toss your phone aside and clear your throat, settling back onto the mattress with your eyes closed.
You’ll think about Namjoon. His broad hands, slender fingers and that deliciously thick cock. His moans, his honey skin and the way he was able to make you come twice that night.
Spreading your legs apart, you fixate the vibrator against your heat, gasping at the cool tip of the silicone already sensitive against your clit. You’re already soaked, the head gliding over your clit with slick.
It feels wrong when you turn the device on, the low buzz of vibrations filling the air. Brows knitted together, you picture Namjoon again. Trying to imagine the stroke of his tongue against your folds as the buzz of your vibrator rings through you, you gasp at the overwhelming sensation. Why didn’t you do this more often? You try to stay quiet, breathing growing laboured as the image of Namjoon between your legs morphs into something else. Rather, it morphs into someone else.
You see it in your head, your fingers threading through dark curls, legs pinned apart by two ink-sleeved arms. When you look down, you’re met by the intense gaze of brown doe eyes, his brows furrowed as his tongue flicks relentlessly against you. It’s almost as he’s smirking at you, the slightest quirk in his eyebrow implying that he knows he’d fucking you well with only his tongue. The image makes you shudder, shaking your head as you kick this sick fantasy out of your mind. Were you out of your mind?
On the other side of the room, Jungkook’s ears perk up to the sound of this low buzz. He hadn’t realized you were still awake. But as the buzzing intensifies, and a rhythmic deep breathing follows, it soon grows impossible to ignore. He has to be certain. Cautiously removing one earphone, he almost leans into the noise, cocking his head to the side.
No, that’s definitely you, alright.
You gasp as you apply more pressure to your clit, eyes rolling back from the waves of vibrations surging through your entire body. You can’t get it out of your head, imagining Jungkook’s taut arms holding you down, his tongue unforgiving against you. The moan that escapes you is wholly on accident, a hand slapping against your mouth in an attempt to silence yourself further.
Jungkook sits at his desk, dumbfounded. Were you really doing what he thought you were? Surely not. It’s then that hears the moan. It penetrates the thin wall that separates the two of you and stirs a familiar twitch in his boxers. He feels it press against the fabric, stretching with every heartbeat that knocks against his ribcage. His breathing begins to deepen, only letting his imagination wander as to what you were doing in this moment, merely a few feet away.
No, he thinks. Absolutely not. Behave yourself.
You’re…well, you’re moaning.
Fuck this, Jungkook’s inner dialogue protests. If you’re not going to play fair, then neither is he. He rises from his desk, tripping slightly over his office chair, clattering the plastic wheels against the hardwood floor. The sound reverberates through what feels like the entire house, and the silence is broken by the impact, which by all accounts seems far too noisy for its own good.
Jungkook freezes, terrified. The buzzing ceases just as suddenly, and the air is replaced with an undesirable discomfort.
Inside your room, your left hand tightens over your mouth the other switches off the vibrator. The kerfuffle seemed to have occurred frighteningly close, prompting a sudden cease to desist all sinful pleasures. The anxieties come in waves, one after another. Did he hear you? Oh God, how long was he listening? Was that even him?
A painful eternity passes. The silence fills the house once more, the crickets outside resuming their nightly song.
Jungkook half expects you to barge into his room, fuming at him for being a pervert and listening in but your feared assault never comes. If anything, his cock only seems to grow harder, the thought of you pleasuring yourself just on the other side of the wall so alluring, he begins to palm himself over his boxers.
You, on the other hand, upon the silence, convince yourself that he hadn’t heard after all. Surely, it was something else, Jungkook had probably already gone to bed.
Jungkook. Your lips form the shape of his name but no sound comes out, only a heavy exhale. This is wrong, beyond inappropriate and downright vulgar. It’s the dimples, you try to argue with yourself. Or those eyes, a deep coffee brown that take away from his masculine frame. It almost brings a childlike charm, distracts you from the surfeit of tattoos that mark his muscular build.
With impatience, you start the vibrator again, placing the device over your clit once more. You’re soaked beyond control, your own fingers itching to be stuffed inside yourself. Thumb hitting the setting button, the buzz of vibrations grow an octave higher as the intensity of the second setting rolls over your bead with a blast of euphoric pleasure. It’s almost too much, legs clamping shut as the judder of silicone repeatedly assaults your clit. Your panting growing quicker, inching you to tip over the edge. Oh, how you yearned to be filled with a cock.
“Fuck,” Jungkook mutters under his breath, giving into the barbaric thoughts in his head. Quietly, he slides his boxers down his thighs and situates himself back onto his desk chair. His cock is throbbing, tip a blushed pink as his heartbeat begins to resonate harder. Were you doing this on purpose? Were you testing him? Teasing him? He rests his head back, eyes fluttering to a close as he holds the base of his painfully erect cock with his right hand.
His hand slowly begins to slide up and down his own length, twisting slightly whenever his fingers cross over his glans. The sensation fills him with ecstasy, and he can’t help but gasp as he tightens his grip and continues to stroke his cock. He thinks of you, on the other side of the wall with your legs spread, flushed and begging to be fucked. How well he’d fit inside you, how well you’d take him in your tight cunt and how you’d whimper his name into his ear. With these thoughts, his pace on himself quickens, breaths laboured against the air. This was wrong, so wrong but hearing you like this, imagining you sprawled on your bed in desperate need of his touch only pushes him further to his climax.
For a moment, he thinks about risking it all and just ripping your door open to fuck you into your next existence. He stays planted onto the leather seat, his hands roaming in a familiar rhythm.
You are minutes, seconds away from seeing strings of white. It’s when you raise your vibrator to its third setting that you come undone, biting the inside of your cheek as your orgasm plummets you to a new horizon and Jungkook’s name sits at the edge of your tongue.
You feel it spray out of you, your arousal sprinkling over your bed sheets in a clear indication of your collapse. You gasp and shudder, quick to turn off the device as its relentless motion becomes far too much for your sensitive clit.
You lay for a moment, gathering your bearings as your high lingers between the furrow of your eyebrows. Your head feels heavy, sleep overtaking every inch of your body and you begin nodding off almost instantaneously, vibrator still in hand. It’s when you shift to doze more comfortably that your thigh makes contact with a cool, wet splotch.
Your eyes spring open and you’re sitting up, flicking on your bedside lamp. You have just squirted all over your sheets, the damp puddle prominent and deride. You sit there in disbelief, blinking at the mess between your legs. You frown, suddenly becoming aware of the incessant pounding in your head from your high and you curse yourself for making such a mess.
Now you have to do the laundry, there’s no way you could sleep in these.
Jungkook is close, frustratingly so…it won’t take much at this rate for him to blow his load all over himself. He places his hand firmly around the chair handle, fingers gripping against the plastic. His other hand strokes faster than ever before, breaths deepening. And as he reaches his climax, the quietest of moans escape his lips, followed by your name. It’s so soft on his tongue, it feels uncouth. The trail of white fluid follows, spurts out of his cock and onto his stomach. He pants, quick to milk every ounce of himself with the squeeze of his palm around the edge of his head and then he’s reaching for his water bottle, taking a cool swig of the liquid.
He has to shower now, there’s no way he could sleep like this.
As you unhook the last of your sheets from the mattress, you quickly roll the fabric into a giant ball within your arms. You’re on your tippy-toes, hesitantly reaching for your door as you twist the knob and pull the barrier open. You look around, relieved to see the hallway engulfed in complete darkness. Jungkook’s door is closed, no light emitting through the cracks which means he must be asleep. Gingerly, you close the door behind you and tiptoe towards the end of the hall where the laundry room is- attached to the shared washroom.
You’re quick to stuff the sheets into the washer, loading the detergent into the cartridges and powering on the machine. The room’s lights aren’t even on, you’re too lazy to find them. Besides, the stark moonlight and LED of the washing machine are plenty of light enough. When you’ve set the machine to its cycle, you ponder on what the hell you can do with no bedsheets to aid in your sleep and your body covered in sweat.
Even if you are hotter than before, sweatier than before, slumber takes a toll on your body. Your head feels weighted, drowsy from your hard climax. You think a shower would work best, turning to go back into your room for a change of clothes when you bump into something, rather someone.
You shriek and take cover under your raised arms, a soft glow of white light sifting through the crack of your arms as the washroom lights get flickered on. Raising your head out of the shield of your arms, you find Jungkook standing in front of you, void of a shirt and clad by only a pair of boxers.
“Jungkook, what the fuck?” You can’t help it, your eyes wander, rake him from head to toe. You can see it, the ever so light outline of a bulge, something that is definitely nowhere near a micropenis.
“I was just...about to shower. I’m sorry- I didn’t know you would be out here, I would’ve worn more clothes” His gaze is soft with worry and you’re reminded of your earlier outburst. It was quite hypocritical of yourself when you’ve just fucked yourself on a sex toy to scandalous thoughts of him. His eyes flickers to the low drone of the washer and then back to you. “You’re doing laundry?”
Your cheeks flush, your voice hitching in your throat as you promptly pull up an excuse as to why you’re doing laundry at nearly two in the morning. “I-I spilled some tea on my sheets, I have to wash them.” You hope it’s convincing enough. “I was about to shower too.”
Jungkook regards you carefully, expecting a scolding for even asking but it never comes. You’re flustered and painted a shade of red he is familiar with. He’s only familiar with it because he too is the same shade of red. You two had been pleasuring yourselves, separately yet simultaneously. The memory almost brings a fresh wave of lust.
“Why are you showering at-” you glance at the time on your phone, “-one o’clock at night?” Jungkook doesn’t expect this question from you. You had never been interested in anything he did other than if it was something bothersome to scold over. He clears his throat and uses his slender fingers to push his hair back. You reckon he’ll need a haircut soon.
“I was exercising in my room.” Technically, masturbation was a certain form of exercise…
The air is stiff, you feel it. It crosses both of your minds, had you heard one another? Was it obvious? You shift on the balls of your feet, teeth crashing down on your bottom lip. “Well, who’s gonna shower first?” You eye his practically unclad figure. It’s impossible to not take notice of the Adonis belt that leads your vision straight to his casual bulge. You look away. “Technically I was here first.”
Jungkook chuckles and pokes the inside of his cheek with a tongue. “Technically this is your house too, right?”
Your head drops to the ground, a shameful pout crossing over your features. Perhaps you were too harsh earlier, but you may just be feeling this way from the endorphins.
You go against the wish for a shower, it’s the least you can do. “I’ll be sleeping on the couch tonight, just letting you know. Please don’t make food at some obscure hour of the night or I will kill you.” With that, you push past him, your shoulder knocking against his arm as you head towards the living room.
To Jungkook, there’s something so beguiling about your clear disdain for him. He merely observes you from where he stands, feeling another rush of blood make way to his cock. How could you so ignorantly disregard that you had just been touching yourself? Did you really not know he could hear you? It baffles him, leaves him with another hard-on as he turns away, closing the washroom door behind him before he’s turning on the shower.
Tumblr media
Today, you’ve had a shitty day.
Kim Taehyung has put in his two weeks' notice. He’s quitting this job to move halfway across the world and live with his girlfriend abroad and your boss had informed you one of your very own clients have committed tax fraud, costing your firm thousands. Along with this, you’ve spilled coffee over your white button-up and the hair tie holding your crisp bun up had snapped to unleash your unbrushed, unwashed owl’s nest.
When you walk into the apartment, you almost don’t want to look at your reflection in the mirror. It was strategically placed in the foyer by Seokjin, his scientific reasoning behind it being so he could start a positive day by looking at himself one last time before leaving the house. This logic seems like bullshit to you now. Your hair is a lion’s mane, your black bra visible against the translucent, chestnut coffee stain on your chest and your face is shiny from the amount of sweat you’ve had building up throughout the day from this sweltering heat.
Kicking off your heels, you take notice that Jungkook’s Pumas don’t take their usual occupancy on the shoe rack. This means he’s not home and this means, he wouldn’t be seeing you in this state. Relief floods over you.
Somewhere prior to the halfway point of Jungkook’s stay, your animosity for his presence seems to have expired ever so slightly. Perhaps it had to do with your newfound liking towards him from your late-night fantasies, or maybe it was because he had actually been putting more effort into working around the house as of late.
You barely see him now, and when you do, he’s usually made your food along with his own or he’s left you sticky notes telling you he’s taken out the garbage for you or cleaned the washroom. It has warmed your rigid heart but only to an extended degree.
Carding your fingers through your hair, you tame as much of it as you can before you’re unbuttoning your dress shirt and letting the air dry it out. Your bra feels slick against your skin, the mixture of coffee and sweat too unbearable. You unclip it from behind and toss it onto the bar stool by the kitchen island.
After opening the fridge for a can of iced tea, you walk over to the pantry for a snack to accompany the icy, perspiring drink. But before you can make it, you suddenly take notice of it, the twinkling mound of silverware against the sunlight seeping through the windowpane. You look down at the small pile of unwashed cutlery in the stainless steel sink, an inferno flickering in your chest.
The feeling crawls back, the feeling of wanting to reinforce your disapproval of him. It’s an emotional memory, screaming at you to go back to your familiar disdain, to a more comfortable habit. Or maybe it’s your horrible day, everything bad that’s happened leading up to this breakdown. You feel like an overly emotional pregnant lady, getting fired up over unwashed spoons and forks but you can’t push it down. You’re seeing red.
A click is heard from the bathroom down the hall, followed by the tune of a cheerful whistle. You wrap the open ends of your shirt around your chest, crossing your arms as you stand in the kitchen and await the figure’s emergence from the shadowy refuge of the hallway. Jungkook now appears at the mouth of the hall, one arm rubbing a small towel against his wet hair and the other clutching the towel hanging off his hips. Upon seeing you, his whistle abruptly drops.
“Hey,” he begins nervously. “I didn’t know you’d be home—”
The words come out of you like rapid-fire, all “good deeds” he’s ever done as a roommate escaping through the vents. “You…” You begin, and he winces. “Do you see this?” You point to the sink. “How fucking hard is it to wash your own forks and spoons? Fuck, I’m so tired of picking up after you!”
You’re really unable to stop yourself, weeks of pent-up frustrations just now unleashing, lashing against the boy with such vigor, you can see a gulp send his Adam's apple to a bob. “For the record, if you’re going to smoke, do it the absolute farthest away from the apartment- I cannot stand the scent of fake strawberries and watermelon anymore.” Your arm motions towards the hallway, your foot stomping with it. Jungkook’s gaze very briefly strays to your shirt that unravels, just barely covering your breasts. Were you not wearing a bra?
“For every shower you take after the initial one, you have to set aside two dollars extra towards the water bill and for the love of all things holy, please start eating dinner at a reasonable time- you make it impossible to like you when I’m forced to wake up at two in the morning almost every single night.” With one push off the counter, you’re off towards the hallway to your bedroom, the heat of Jungkook’s stare burning into the back of your skull as you pass by him.
Jungkook sighs.
“I try, you know.” His quiet words halt you in your steps. “I knew you never liked me but I never knew why...that much was always a mystery. It never stopped me from trying to be the best damn roommate you’re ever going to have.” You twist around, taking in his stance. Now his arms are crossed, the towel once on his head now draped over his arm. “And yet you still hate me.”
You’re disarmed, mouth suddenly dry as you take in his words. Jungkook continues. “I...I just don’t get it- and I have to admit it’s a little disheartening,” He takes an idle step forward. “I don’t know what to expect from you- one moment you’re scolding me and the next…” His eyes trail to the exposed delve between your breasts, carefully covered underneath your unbuttoned shirt. You coil into yourself, wrapping your shirt over your chest again as you shift your gaze to the marks of ink blossomed over his skin. “And the next you’re staring at me.” Steadily dragging his gaze back up towards your eyes, he smirks and speaks again. “Kind of like you’re staring right now.”
If there’s one thing you hate the most, it’s being called out. Your pride is wounded and you rise to the challenge, huffing a bemused breath. You shoot back with faux scorn. “I’m only staring because you’re practically naked in front of me. Have you no decency in the presence of a woman?” This makes Jungkook cock an eyebrow, and he finds himself closing more distance between the two of you.
He laughs, mirthless but nonetheless amused by your rebuke. “Usually in the presence of a woman like you, decency is the last thing on my mind.” Leisurely, you’re losing each other in one another’s gaze.
You scoff. “Like me? What the hell is that supposed to mean?”
“Don’t play coy, you and I both know you’re not near as good as you think you are.”
This statement catches you off guard, wholeheartedly. Your breath hitches in your throat as your eyes flicker between the towel that’s barely clinging around his waist to his eyes that have seemingly darkened, ablaze with something akin to salacity. Jungkook licks his lips, the length of his damp hair sending a tiny trickle of water down the side of his face. “And that doesn’t even count all the weird shit I’ve heard in this house.” Now you’re the one gulping, frozen in place as he takes another step closer. “You moan in your sleep, you moan when you touch yourself at night...” Your eyes widen in horror, he had heard you that night and possibly every night after that.
“I’ll never forget what your friend said on the phone, you know. With lips like that…you make it impossible to forget anything about you.”
Shit.
He’s gotten closer, much closer. With anyone else, the lack of distance between you would be nothing short of uncomfortable and unwanted, but you find yourself pulled towards him. The closing of the gap between you is mutual, and before you have a chance to shoot back a reply, his lips are hovering above yours. “Pretty lips that make pretty noises.” And then, his mouth is on yours.
Your knees nearly give out.
Before anything else, you’re filled with shock, an invasive shock. How could he be doing this?
He… He’s…he’s actually a pretty good kisser. You’re swept away, his arms cocooning around you. His lips pillow against your own, his tongue the taste of mint.
Jungkook is damp from his shower, his skin slick and cool under your touch as you slide your arms around his neck. This motion beckons you closer, pushing your lips harder against his. He walks you backwards and you follow suit, mouths remaining on one another as your back hits the wall right next to your bedroom door. There is absolutely no turning back now.
His hands are sliding down your body, feeling every curve of your body underneath his palms as he squeezes and kneads until he’s reached your ass. You moan into his mouth when he grabs handfuls of your bottom, a calculated grip that he uses to push your pelvic bone against his growing erection. This invites his tongue into your parted mouth, taking in the taste of yours into his own. They cushion around each other, a synchronous valse that only grows the moisture in between your legs. You feel his want for you build against your stomach, the thickness that lays just beyond his towel.
Jungkook’s teeth find the plump of your bottom lip, a gentle gnaw at the flesh before he’s tugging at it. The whimper you let out only elicits a growl to emit from his chest, the hands on your ass now sliding up your sides until they’re cupping your face. It’s then that his clear want for you becomes evident, a taut prominence poking against your stomach.
“M’Jungkook…” You whimper into his mouth, his right hand moving from your cheek to the base of your neck. You gasp as his palm pushes against your sternum, the fingers wrapped around your neck tightening in the slightest as you’re pushed farther against up against the wall. Jungkook hums in response, his lips relentless against your own.
His mouth works in precise vigour against your own. It’s as if he has been starved of this moment for too long, days, weeks of holding himself back. You can’t stop yourself either, not quite being able to comprehend the happenings of this exact moment. Nights of pleasuring yourself to the thought of your roommate and here you two are, your cunt seemingly progressing into an ocean of slick and his cock ready to be smothered in it.
Jungkook pulls away, and when you get a chance to look at him, his cheeks are powdered in a shade of rose, his lips marginally swollen from your heated kissing and his eyes ablaze with a craving you can’t even describe. “Not so smart with that mouth now, are you?”
You swallow thickly, words failing you. Your eyes glance towards the roses stoic on his neck. Oh, how you’d like to lick over them. The situation is beyond words, and you reckon if it hadn’t been, that actions still would fare far better than words.
Jungkook drops to his knees in front of you and fiercely grabs your hips. You inhale sharply, head dropping as your fingers instinctively grasp for purchase against his impossibly broad shoulders. They’re marked with feathers that lead down his biceps in the shape of wings. You can’t help but dig in, your nails leaving thin red crescents slashing across the ink as your back rests against the wall.
“You think you can get away moaning my name every night?” He groans, alternating between breaths and kisses around your pelvis, slowly moving past your navel. His fingers hook around the belt loops in your pants, his free hand eagerly tugging down your zipper. With precision, he pulls your pants down until you’re clad in only your underwear. Thank God, you chose today of all days to wear a thong. The baby pink silk, smooth underneath his fingertips. Jungkook looks up at you wishfully, his doe eyes radiating a boyish innocence that contradicts the ink littering his skin. But then he speaks, his voice a soft growl.
“I hope you taste as delicious as you look,” he says, not doubting for a second that you won’t as he bites the elastic of your thong. You are breathless; it’s hard not to be when Eros himself is between your legs, yearning for a taste of your dripping sex.
Your breath catches in your throat, Jungkook’s thumb skimming down your pubic bone to where you want, need it the most. You shiver as he circles against your clit through the cloth, a purposeful pressure that has you tightening your grip on his shoulders. He can feel the moisture against the fabric, your arousal clinging against the material.
“I didn’t even have to touch you and you’re already this wet for me, baby?” He licks his lips, fingers running up and down your thighs. The nickname baby stays with you, lingers and only soaks you further. You roll your head back against the wall, letting his fleeting fingers latch around the band of your thong before you feel them being tugged down your legs.
It’s almost instinctive for you to want to cross your leg over the other, to keep Jungkook from seeing you so bare and needy for him. But of course, Jungkook doesn’t let this happen. He kisses your right hip bone before tracing a bold lick diagonally down to your pelvis. Your fingers rub against his shoulders, one hand gliding up the back of his head to comb through the mass of his damp dark curls.
Jungkook hikes one of your legs over his shoulder, letting the balm of your foot rest against the delve of his back as he spreads you above him. A broad hand pushes your hip back against the wall, the one leg you’re balanced on steady underneath his aiding grip. He uses his free hand to run his second and third digit up and down your wet folds. You shiver.
He looks up at you once more. This time, a lopsided smug grin adorns his face as he beams you a set of perfect teeth, the familiar indents of his dimples marking against his lower cheeks. “I’m going to make you come so hard.” You’re moaning in response to this, leg wavering as you feel the slide of Jungkook’s forefinger push into you. He hums in appreciation, your tightness inviting the chafe of his finger. He places a chaste kiss just above your pubic bone as he begins a slow rhythmic pump of his finger.
“Fuck,” you breath out, the ridges of his calloused digit filling you far greater than your own ever has. You can’t even begin to imagine how his dick will feel, your fingers laced into his hair tightening their hold as well.
It’s when you feel the point of Jungkook’s deft tongue stroke against your clit that you cry out, his hand gripping your hip harder against the wall as he feels you waver above him. Your eyes flutter to a close, letting him have his way with you against his tongue. He uses it mercilessly, flicks pointed and dexterous against your clit as his finger pushes in and out of your tight heat. “Oh my god, Jungkook.” He inserts another finger and you nearly lose yourself.
Your eyes are rolled back, your hips involuntarily jerking away from Jungkook’s grip as they push forward in search of more of his mouth. You feel it bubbling inside you, each stroke of his fingers and each swirl of his tongue making it impossible for you to focus on anything else but this feeling. He laps around your clit, strict and continuous. When you open your eyes to look down, you see his gorgeous hair enveloped in the thread of your fingers. You’ve never been eaten out against a wall like this and it only adds more to your impending undoing.
Jungkook’s digits move quicker now, with each pump comes a curl that elicits the neediest of whimpers to fall past your lips. He feels his cock twitch with every sound you make, a melodic hymn to his ears. He alternates between sharp flicks and taking the whole of your clit with his mouth in a gentle siphon. This time there is no barrier of a wall between the two of you, this time he can hear you as vividly as he hears the tits chirp outside his window every morning and this time, you are not using a vibrator on yourself, he’s fucking you with his tongue.
He can feel you tightening against his fingers, your walls clenching unimaginably tight around him with every stroke. You are close, so very close and the feel of his relentless tongue lapping around your clit along with his slender fingers has you seeing nothing but the ceiling above you. Jungkook picks up the pace of his tongue as well, his head moving in vigour as he fervently pushes the wet muscle against your bead.
He senses it coming before you do, his tongue and fingers in a violent rhythm. You jerk above him, your hold on his hair impossibly tight as you let yourself go, crying out his name from your orgasm. He feels your squirt spray out of you, it coats his mouth and chin, sprinkling even to his chest as you shake above him. Jungkook does not stop, digits pumping even faster, tongue continuing their assault.
You chant his name as you writhe underneath his grasp. The sensation becomes too much within seconds of your orgasm but somehow his persistence makes it feel as if you can come all over again.
“J-jungkook p-please,” you beg, your fingers unraveling from his hair and tightening onto his shoulders as you try to push him away. He follows suit, unlatching his mouth from your heat before languidly rising to his feet.
When you look at him, his lips are swollen and painted in your clear arousal, your squirt coating down the cleft of his chin, streaming his neck and sprinkled across his chest. It matches his damp hair, uniform with the wetness of his previous shower.
“You...just...squirted. All over me.” You can’t quite tell if this statement holds aversion at first. Truth be told, you’ve never squirted from a man’s tongue against you.
Jungkook steps closer. “Do you know how fucking hot that was?” You don’t know, but Jungkook is taking your hand into his and placing it over it his very hard bulge. You gasp at the feel underneath your palms, unyielding to your touch. It’s far greater of a bulge than you’ve ever felt before.
You smell yourself on him, a faint fragrance that you taste when Jungkook leans forward to kiss you with greed. His mouth his sticky, kisses lingering against your lips. When he pulls away, his fingers glide over the knot that holds his towel up. You watch him, eagerly as he pulls at the twist, letting the towel to fall to the floor with a soft thud.
Fuck.
Holy fuck.
“Oh my god,” you catch yourself saying out loud.
Jungkook is big. Larger, thicker than you could have ever imagined. An erect serpentine that lays firmly in his hand as he takes the base of his cock in his palm, you can’t look away. You gulp, eyes flickering between his daunting length and his growing smirk. Your mouth suddenly feels parched, a tentative tongue poking through the seams of your lips to swipe over your lips. Something about him not using the towel to directly wipe off your squirt makes your stomach flip with somersaults, so aroused by the idea of him wearing your ograsm on him with pride.
Jungkook twirls his forefinger in the air. “Turn around,” he commands and you oblige, twisting your body as you lay the flat of your palms against the cool wall. Jungkook pulls at your hips, mumbling words of profanities as your ass grinds against his thick erection. He already feels so full against your heat.
Kicking your legs open and apart, his feet stand in between yours, making it impossible for you to close them. He places a kiss against your shoulder, your forehead rested flush to the wall as a tender hand kneads at the cheek of your ass. He spanks it once, the echo of both the slap and your yelp of surprise travelling down the hall.
Hot and heavy against the shell of your ear, his damp hair tickles your neck as he whispers. “Think you can take it, baby?”
“Y-yes.” Your answer is short and breathless, hips instinctively grinding against him for further proof of your want. This earns you another spank and Jungkook is taking the base of his cock in one hand, spreading your cheeks with his free hand as he lines up to your cunt.
He nudges past your folds with his head, speaking in a low growl. “Good girl. Now let’s hear you scream.” He pushes in.
The stretch of his tip pressing into you tingles with a sizzling burn, the pressure that follows has your fingers curling against the wall and an arm reaching back to grasp onto Jungkook’s hip.
He takes your offering hand, interlocking your fingers together as he pushes another inch into you before pulling back out. He lets you adjust, your mixed moans echoing throughout the hallway as he juts his head forward to fill you once again.
His girth pinches against your walls, deliciously so and Jungkook pauses every couple of moments to let you feel every inch fill you until he’s reached the hilt.
He lets your hand go and you bring it back to press against the wall in aid of holding you up. “That’s it, baby...take every inch of it.” His voice is low, husky, something so carnally divine in the clip of his syllables that it has you rolling your head back. “You’re doing so fucking good. Does it feel good?”
“Y-yes,” you say as you exhale shakily.
He rolls out of you, his name just on the edge of your tongue before he’s thrusting forward to have it spill out of your mouth. The velvet smooth feel of Jungkook’s cock mixing with your slick arousal makes the pinching sensation come to an ease. He’s swearing behind you, alternating between muttered profanities and guttural moans.
“So. Fucking. Tight. You feel so good, baby, taking me so well.” His fingers are firmly grasping onto your hips, his thrusts now beginning a steady rhythm as he steadily fucks you against the wall. Jungkook’s girth knocks the breath out of you, a full pressure that fills your tight cunt so satisfyingly, you almost lose yourself a second time within minutes from your first orgasm.
Jungkook is panting behind you, fingers surely leaving bruises against your skin as he speeds his hips to pound into you. He loosens his grip, three of his digits tracing a line down your spine before cutting around your waist and hovering above your clit. “Come again for me, baby. One more time, squirt for me.” It’s with these words that you decide, you don’t want to squirt on the floor once more, you want to squirt on him, on top of him.
“W-wait.” You reach your arm back, pressing the flat of your hand to his hip in a gesture to stop. He stills immediately.
“Did I hurt you?” The worry in his voice only causes you to release a breathless laugh, shaking your head no in reassurance.
“I want to ride you.” How could Jungkook ever say no to that? Without a beat of hesitance, he slides out of you, taking his cock in his hand before lightly tapping the head against each of your cheeks. Gripping your waist, he spins you to face him, a dimpled smile greeting you as you reach his gaze.
“Mm, is that so?” He asks and you nod, returning his smile. The dim glow of sunlight pouring into the hallway allows you to see the glowy sheen of his sweat and your arousal glimmer against his face and chest, enhancing his tattoos. The dampness of his curls have dried but a new layer of perspiration forms a film over his forehead.
You take Jungkook’s hand in yours, leaning forward to place a chase kiss on his lips before you’re leading him into your bedroom. You walk him backwards, your hands on his shoulders and his eyes focused nowhere but on yours. It’s when the back of his knees knock against the edge of your bed that he’s forced to have a seat.
He expects you to straddle him, you see it in the glimmer of his doe eyes but instead, you drop to your knees in front of him, arms separating his inked thighs apart. This takes Jungkook by surprise, he cocks his head to the side, an eyebrow raising in question.
You hands glide up and down his legs, a grin stretching across your face as you lean forward and place a gentle peck to the base of his thick cock. Jungkook hums in satisfaction, eyes holding a challenge as he watches you with great concentration.
The pink of his head looks all too inviting as you take his cock in your hands. As you do so, Jungkook’s hands roam up your arms before they’re resting on each of your shoulders. He benignly grips at the tense muscles of your shoulders, thumbs moving in circles over your skin. “You’re tense.” He vocalizes.
“You’re fucking huge.” You hit back, eyes wide and mouth salivating at the heaviness in your grasp. It’s tacky, coated in you as you swipe a thumb over the head and Jungkook hisses above you. When you look up at him, his dark eyes are speared to your movements, teeth gritted. You begin moving your hands up and down his length.
“You can take it in your mouth, can’t you?” The tone in his voice depicts a challenge and your ears nearly perk in interest. Of course you can take him in your mouth. You lean forward, Jungkook’s broad hands leaving the expanse of your shoulders to slide up the sides of your head. His fingers comb your hair back, pulling it into a makeshift ponytail. The movement flexes the muscles on his inked biceps and you have to admit to yourself that he looks so fucking good.
Jungkook is all too eager as he watches you, the flat of your tongue sticking out to lick around the rim of his head. He chokes back a groan, grip on your hair tightening. You stretch your mouth as wide as you can, a discomfort to your movement as you engulf the whole of his head with your tongue. Jungkook inhales a sharp breath, fingers threaded into your hair as he eases you down to take more of him.
You wrap your lips around the velvet tip, beginning a slow suction. “Fuck,” Jungkook mumbles from above you, shifting on the mattress, watching you. “Open wider, baby.” You do as asked, jaw already sore from the girth of his head alone. He pushes his hips off the mattress in the slightest, grip on your hair firm as he thrusts more of himself into your mouth.
You’re careful not to let your teeth graze over the skin of his cock, your fingers tightening around his length before you start to twist your wrists and continue sucking. Jungkook is careful to be gentle with you, very tenderly urging his cock to fill more of your mouth. It shocks you when you feel the blunt of his head hit the cap of your airway, eliciting a gag.
Jungkook pulls out a millimeter before he’s pushing back in, teeth gritted and eyes focused. Your mouth looks so pretty stuffed with his cock; it’s almost as pretty as your cunt taking him to the hilt.
Another gag rumbles out of you and vibrates against his member, this time, Jungkook being the one to moan. His hips stutter in shallow thrusts into your mouth and you feel the sting of tears threatening to blur your vision.
The sounds of your gagging bounces off the walls of your bedroom, followed by the guttural moans of Jungkook as he fucks your mouth. Each thrust of his hips causes the head of his cock to push past your airway.
You release your hold around his length, fingers thickly coated in your own saliva as you find purchase of the flesh of his thighs. You let him have his way with you, your mouth stretched as wide as you can physically make it and a single thread of a tear rolling down your cheek. You look up through the flutters of your eyelashes, pleased to see the Adam’s apple in Jungkook’s throat bob up and down while his head is thrown back in pleasure.
The sudden pull of his cock from your mouth comes with a light ‘pop’ followed by you gasping for air. Using his hold on your hair, he jerks your hair back so you’re forced to look up at him. He hungrily latches his lips onto yours, sloppy and wet with a relentless tongue that intrudes your mouth.
You slide your hands over his thighs, towards the ridges of muscles on his abdomen as he helps you rise to your feet. Your right palm travels up his chest, your other arm circling around Jungkook’s neck as you let him grab a handful of your ass. With a persuasive lift, he places you on his lap, your legs wrapping around his torso as his mouth remains on yours.
“M’let me ride m’you,” you gasp in between kisses, Jungkook’s toned arms looping around your waist as he shuffles closer to the edge of the mattress.
“Yeah?” He moves from your mouth to the edge of your jaw.
“Please.” Jungkook loosens his grip around your waist, letting you rest the front of your calves on either side of him. You situate yourself, raising your hips as your hand finds his still, very erect length to line against your core.
“Look at you so needy for my cock, don’t hate me so much anymore?” The smugness in his tone only grants him a glare from you, a chuckle following his tease. “In case you haven’t noticed, I’m in need of you too.” You have noticed, his massive cock hasn’t wavered in want in the slightest since he first kissed you.
You huff a breath. “I never hated you.” Rubbing his head a few times over your sex, you finally sink down onto it, your cunt eagerly taking in his head. You gasp at the feel of this new position, his length gliding in much smoother with your previous practice. “You just need to start washing your fucking dish- ah!” You cry out, hands fumbling to grasp at his shoulders as Jungkook juts his hips up, slamming into you. His girth stretches your walls once again and he feels so fucking delicious in you like this. Quite frankly, you’re unsure if you’ll be able to go back to an average sized penis ever again.
“Mm, I should keep pissing you off if it means I get to shut you up like this.” His voice hitches at the last word as you pick your hips up and ram yourself back down onto his cock. You both moan at this, your arms once again looping around Jungkook’s neck as his hands firmly grip your hips in guidance.
Your teeth clash as you kiss him with each bounce of your hips, the position more so letting you gently rock over his cock. Your clit rubs against his skin with each roll of your hips, making sure you alternate between circling your hips and bouncing on his cock. Jungkook is losing himself, you know this because he holds you tightly, firmly as he lets you take control. You ride him hard and slow, the pre crescendo to his coming end.
“Come for me, Jungkook,” You moan against the shell of his ear, legs losing stamina as you try to keep a rhythmic pace. But Jungkook doesn’t want to finish just yet, he wants you to come again too.
You yelp as he slides his hands under your ass, lifting you off him before he’s throwing you onto the mattress so you’re on your back. He stands up, above you at the edge of your bed, taking your knees in the crevice of his elbows before yanking you towards him.
“Where is it?” He gruffs, fingers gripping your waist.
“What?”
“Your vibrator, where is it?” If you weren’t flushed already from Jungkook’s cock, you’d be blushing at his knowledge that you even had one. You stretch your arm above you, fingers reaching underneath a pillow where you usually keep it hidden. Grasping the device in hand, you bring it out, idly waving it in front of the ink-skinned boy. He grins, the youthful boy-like glint returning in the doe of his eyes as he releases your leg from the arm that extends to retrieve it from you.
Inspecting the controls, he finds the power button, clicking it on. A low buzz fills the room. the words that follow leaving you breathless again.
“Ah...now there’s the noise I like to hear every night.” Clicking it back off, Jungkook places it carefully next you before hooking your leg back around his elbow, hoisting your hips up. You watch with eager eyes as he pokes his tongue past his lips, letting a string of saliva drizzle carefully over his cock. He smooths the slick over his cock, letting it coat the entirety of his length before he’s guiding his head against your opening.
He gently slaps his head against your clit before rubbing against it, letting your arousal build once more. You shift your hips in impatience, fingers gripping tightly against your sheets. Jungkook leans down towards your mouth, claiming your lips once more, hard and deep. He tastes of sweat and your arousal, a tinge of salt that you lick away. When he pulls away, he’s pushing his cock into you again.
The curve of his dick hits differently with this position, now he has more control with hitting just the right spots. He’s slow at first, frustrating slow as if he’s testing each stroke of his hips to see how you react. When he’s surging forward until he’s got an inch remaining, you’re crying out loud.
“Here?” He asks and you nod profusely, words unable to form on your tongue. Jungkook pushes even deeper, another cry escaping your lungs at the new fullness. Your grip around your sheets grow tighter, teeth harshly biting down on your lip as he begins steady rock in and out of you.
You’ve never been filled so well like this, his cock hitting every surface area of your inner walls as he stretches you delectably with each roll of his hips. He fucks into you, hard and deep, changing from circling his hips to pistoning into you with no mercy. He talks filth into the air, profanities and moans chased by the sounds of skin slapping as he relentlessly plummets into you.
He can feel you about to come, the pressure of your clenched walls tightening around him to un unprecedented degree. With each thrust, your cunt only eagerly invites him back in, needy for his spurts of cum. This is when Jungkook grabs the vibrator he placed beside you, thumb quick to power the device on. You yelp and mewl as he places the silicone tip against your clit, the vibration ringing through both of you. The sensation is overwhelming, the girth of his cock mixed with the jolts of your stimulated clit leave you near screaming his name. You shake underneath him, legs quivering as you feel the rise of your orgasm build through your entire body.
“You can squirt again, baby. I know you can. I know you want to.” Your body jerks and still as the combination of one more thrust and the vibe hit you exactly where you need it to, to come undone. Jungkook doesn’t fight it, the pressure of your squirt pushing his cock out of your tightness. “That’s it, darling, so fucking hot.” He keeps the vibrator on you and you whimper, releasing the clutch of the sheets as you flail your arms towards the vibrator in an attempt to push it away from you. Jungkook does not budge.
“P-please, fuck, Jungkook...it’s too much, please.” He does not stop, watching you with intent as your body shakes underneath his control of the vibrator. He knows you can come again.
“One more time.” Your legs are desperately trying to clamp shut but Jungkook expertly holds your legs apart with his torso as he continues assaulting your clit with the silicone. It buzzes against you, rings through your entire body and within minutes you’re coming all over again. It’s so intense, you nearly black out, your voice clamouring to a scream of Jungkook’s name.
He turns it off and throws it somewhere on the mattress before he’s sliding into you with ease. He fucks your squirt back into you with a push of his cock.
This time, Jungkook wastes no time. This time, he drills into you, clamping your legs together as he pushes them forward until your knees hit your chest. This position allows him to go deeper, watching your cunt swallow every inch of his cock with greed along with every thrust of his hips. He feels his orgasm rapidly approaching.
Each snap of his hips become sloppier, his laboured breathing sporadic as his fingers dig harshly into your calves.
“Where do you want me to come?” He rasps, pulling your legs apart once more.
“I-inside me, please.” Your words elicit a mumbled fuck from him followed by a groan. You watch him through lidded eyes, your head thick and heavy from your plentiful of orgasms. Jungkook looks like the God of sex himself above you, sweat dribbling down his forehead, his dark long waves spilling over his eyes, his inked chest glistening and his muscles flexing with every grind of his hips into you. He is the most beautiful man you’ve ever seen. “Come, Jungkook,” you coo, egging him to come undone. “Come inside me.”
With the last phrase, his hips stutter and still before he’s gasping for a breath as he spills himself into you. He shouts your name, voice getting caught in his throat. He steadily moves again, milking every last drop of himself inside of you as your walls achingly aid him.
As he comes to a stop, the room is filled with nothing but the sounds of your mixed heavy panting. Jungkook leans forward, pressing a heavy kiss against your lips before he’s pulling away from your mouth and away from your cunt. He watches, mesmerized as his cum dribbles out of you. It’s the hottest thing he’s ever seen, your tight cunt filled to the brim with his seed.
“Fuck,” he pants, reaching his arm out to help you sit up. You roll your head forward into your palms, the rush of dopamine pounding into your skull with a massive headache. “You okay?” He asks and you nod your head, face still encompassed by your hands.
“You...should piss me off more often.” Jungkook chuckles at this. When you look up from your hands, his wavy locks have a newfound dampness, beads of sweat encompassing his tattooed chest. He’s grinning, a lopsided grin that leaves you with a warm feeling pounding in your chest.
Jungkook offers you a hand, guiding you off the bed. You take it, letting him pick you up to your feet with the strength of his biceps.
“Yeah, yeah I should.” You’re both walking out your bedroom and towards the shower.

Seokjin wears nothing but a grimace at the kitchen island as he watches you and Jungkook coo at each other. He’s just returned from his trip abroad, hands crossed over his chest as he observes the blasphemy before his eyes. Jungkook is by the stove, flipping the last of Seokjin’s steak and you’re beside him preparing a salad on the counter.
“Disgusting.” Seokjin scowls. “I leave for three months and this happens?” He scoffs at the thought of the two of you cooking him steak for dinner, as if it would break the bearer of this terrible, awful news. You two are now dating. His best friend and his roommate- to Seokjin, it’s an ultimate betrayal.
You sigh and roll your eyes, setting your freshly made salad in front of him as Jungkook brings over a sizzling pan of steak. He wears a grin on his face, a grin that matches yours before you’re leaning on your tiptoes to kiss against the indented dimple against his lower cheek. Seokjin nearly gags at this.
He truly thought he’d be rid of you as soon as this lease had ended but here you were, snogging who he thought to be his best friend. He thinks he’ll have to burn his mattress too.
“Great,” he says, deadpan, picking up his knife and fork. “I’m stuck with you forever now.” With the greatest of fake enthusiasm, he musters a disingenuous smile and angrily digs into his steak.
He hates that it’s delicious.

Soft as Bread, Sweet as Honey, Chapter... Idk, 4?
Hi folx! I guess there is more to this story. I’m working on what will be chapter 4 on here, and chapter 2 on AO3. You can read it below the break if you want to, or you can hop on over there and just read the whole thing properly. Beelzebub x Female Reader
Cooking duty is one of the chores at the House of Lamentation that you mind the least. You’ll certainly take it over cleaning the common room. It never ceases to amaze you how much of a mess fully grown men- demons- whatever- can make. Like all chores in the house, everyone takes turns cooking. Unlike other chores, people usually double up on cooking duty on account of there being so many mouths to feed-- especially when one of those mouths belongs to Beelzebub. Your cooking partner this semester is Levi, and though he does more talking than cooking, you’re generally fine with that. His constant stream of anime and game related chatter puts you at ease as you cook.
It had taken some time for you to get familiar with some of the more exotic Devildom ingredients, but you had found many that bore a close resemblance to food you were familiar with from the human world, and whatever you were unfamiliar with you were pretty good at researching on your DDD. You’d found a few Devildom dishes that you were comfortable cooking, but most often you ended up making food inspired by things you’d loved eating in the human world. Tonight you have decided to make okonomiyaki, a personal favourite. It would be easy enough to prepare a large quantity of, and allowed for enough customization of toppings that everyone would end up happy. Plus, you figured, Levi probably wouldn’t mind actually helping-- his fondness for everything Japanese outweighing his innate laziness.
When you enter the spacious kitchen, Levi is nowhere in sight. No matter, you think. You’ll start without him. You busy yourself washing vegetables and preparing a large pan of Covetous Cod fillets to bake. The mild fish, you think, will pair well with the tangy sauce.
You’ve almost finished peeling a pile of yams when you hear a voice behind you.
“Uh, hi.”
That is most certainly not Levi’s voice. Slowly you turn around, meeting Beel’s eyes from where he stands, large frame taking up most of the doorway.
“Hi,” you say back, your stomach fluttering.
This is the first time you’ve been alone together since the incident in the alleyway a few days ago. Between your project with Sibyl and his brothers’ constant presence, you haven’t been able to say two words to each other in private, and thanks to another one of Mammon’s pranks backfiring, the brothers’ texting privileges have once again been temporarily revoked. You briefly considered texting him anyway, but shuddered at the thought of Lucifer finding out and reading your messages. Though you haven’t had any alone time, it hasn’t stopped him from holding your hand under the table when nobody's looking, or smiling at you in the halls.
“Sorry I’m a little late.” A rosy tinge crept into his cheeks. “I got Levi to switch with me, but, uh, I got hungry on the way home and stopped for a few doughnuts.”
You can feel a grin spreading over your face. “You got Levi to switch. How did you manage that?”
“It wasn’t hard. He doesn’t like making anything more complicated than instant noodles.”
You laugh, running the peeler over the yam you’re holding. “So I’ve come to realize. But why did you ask him in the first place? Isn’t this just more work for you? Are you that tired of Ruri-chan Ramen?”
“Instant ramen is good, but I like variety in my meals. I get a little bit bored with just one flavor. Not,” he says, panic on his face, “that your cooking is boring. I like your cooking very much...” he trails off, cheeks on fire.
Your grin widens and you turn back to your task, beginning to grate the yam into fine strips. “I agree. It’s better when there are different, complimenting flavours.” If he doesn’t have a problem with your cooking, could he have come here just to see you? Your heart beats a little bit faster.
“Are you okay with my plan of making okonomiyaki? It’s a human world dish, but it’s really versatile. I think it will work well with the ingredients we have here.”
“Ah, yeah, I’ve had that before when I visited up there,” he says, pointing at the ceiling.
“Is it really “up” from here? Like, if I sprouted wings and flew straight up, would I get to the human world eventually?”
“I’m not sure,” he laughs, “I don’t know if anyone has ever tried getting there without using a portal.”
“Maybe that’s for the best,” you say, gathering the grated yam into a bowl and beginning to thinly slice cabbage. “The cod is already baking. It should be done in a few minutes. Do you want to start on the batter for the pancakes?”
He nods, coming to stand beside you at the counter. “I can do that. Can you tell me how?”
“I actually wrote the instructions out over here,” you say, gesturing to a piece of paper.
“So...” you trail off, keenly aware of how close he’s standing to you. “What kinds of things do you like cooking?”
“Oh, um. I don’t think anybody has ever asked me that before. Usually they only ask me what I want to eat,” he says. When you glance over at him, he’s got a finger in his mouth. You suspect he’s just dipped it in the flour. You can’t help the smile that pulls at your lips again, or the memory of how his skin tasted. Thankfully you don’t think he’s noticed you peering at him, because he keeps talking. “I guess I like grilling best. It’s pretty quick, and you get to watch the whole thing. It’s not like baking. That’s frustrating.”
“I don’t have the patience for baking either,” you say, resting your hip against the island as you watch Beel begin to crack eggs into his bowl. “One wrong measurement and the whole thing is ruined. Oh, hang on, you’ve got an eggshell in your batter.” You reach over, plucking the tiny fragment of shell out and wiping it on a teatowel.
“Sorry,” he mumbles.
“It’s completely fine, it happens. That looks good, now just stir it all together.”
“Is it supposed to be kind of... runny?”
“Sure,” you say, carrying over the bowls of vegetables, “if it’s too thick, it won’t cook through properly. Here,” you reach into the bowl, transferring handfuls of cabbage and yam into the batter. “Make sure the vegetables get well coated. I’m going to take the fish out.”
“Thank you for letting me help,” he says.
“What do you mean?” you ask, sliding protective mitts over your hands before opening the oven. It smells incredible, and your stomach rumbles. Normally you’d cut off a big chunk and snack on it while you finished cooking-- Levi had usually wandered off by this point in the process-- but you’re acutely aware that it’s not Levi standing behind you.
“Well, usually my cooking partner is Lucifer. He likes things the way he likes them. And...” he trails off, bringing the batter over to the stove. He looks a little dazed, eyes locked on the pan of cod. “That smells incredible.”
“Thanks. I hope it tastes as good as it smells. Wait- no!” Your warning comes too late, he’s already reached out to pinch off a corner of the flakey flesh. He hisses in pain, pulling his fingers back, shaking them vigorously.
“That’s another reason he doesn’t like me in the kitchen with him,” he says bashfully.
“Come here,” you say, taking his other hand and leading him across the room to the faucet. You turn the cold tap on and test it with your own hand before taking his injured one and running it under the chilly water. “Is that better?”
“Yeah, thanks,” he mumbles, cheeks pinker than his fingers. “I have a hard time controlling myself. It’s like I know better, but I forget when there’s food around.”
You chuckle, rotating his hand under the stream. “I get that. Normally I snack while I cook. I don’t like waiting either. Then I end up eating way more than I should.”
He nods along with your words. “I do the same thing. There’s this one soup that Belphie really loves, but every time I try to make it for him, I end up eating it all before it’s ready and have to start all over again.”
“It’s the thought that counts,” you say, turning the tap off. You gently dab his hand dry with a clean teatowel. “I’m going to go get the first aid kit from my bathroom. I’ll be right back.”
“No, wait,” he says, catching your arm as you turn away from him. “Stay here with me.”
“But your fingers-”
“Already feel much better,” he says, drawing you back to him. Now his eyes are glazed with something other than hunger. He cuts off your protest with a kiss. His lips are so soft and warm; you melt right into him. When your lips move against his he scoops you up in his arms, sitting you on the counter, bringing your face level with his. “I missed you,” he whispers, pulling back to kiss your nose.
“I missed you too,” you whisper back, resting one leg on either side of his hips. You wrap your arms around his neck and your mouth back to his. His hands find your waist and he holds you tight as your tongues explore each other’s mouths. You hadn’t realized how badly you’d wanted to touch him these past few days, and now that you are you can’t get enough. Your hands find their way under the collar of his jacket, fingers running over his broad shoulders. You’re in the process of sliding his jacket down his arms when a familiar voice cuts through your haze.
“- getting hungry, do you need any help in- oh.” Breaking apart, you look to the source of the interruption to find Satan standing in the doorway, one hand on his hip and a smirk on his face. “So dinner will be quite late, then.” he says.
“Beel burned his finger,” you blurt.
“Uh-huh,” Satan nods. “And to sooth it he had to stick his tongue down your thro-”
“Get out,” Beel yells, seizing a nearby piece of fruit and throwing it in his brother’s general direction.
Satan steps to the side, smoothly avoiding it. He chuckles. “I’ll tell the others dinner will be a bit late.”
Face absolutely on fire, you hop off of the counter and cross back to the stove. “I’ll just heat up some oil,” you say.
Beel follows after a moment, resting his hands on your hips as you begin cooking the pancakes. “Can we finish that kiss after dinner?” he asks
It takes all your willpower to continue spooning batter in the pan. You don’t trust your voice, so you just nod.

I don’t ever watch it by my own choosing, I just catch it here and there because my family watches it.  What TV show do you miss the most that's no longer on TV? Gilmore Girls, Degrassi, and True Blood come to mind first. Are you currently fighting with someone right now? No. Is your life full of drama? No. I have other stressful things I’m dealing with, but not of the drama variety. How long can you hold your breath underwater *shrug* Where's the last place you've been to out of state? My friends liked to do it and I wanted to partake with them and not sit out on the sidelines by myself. It’s just that truth be told I think I would have rarely drank at all if it weren’t for that and likely would have never smoked. -----
“What do you guys think I’m doing today?” Jaeyoon asks his fans as he waits for your call. Today, Jaeyoon is getting you, his girlfriend, to help with his “I can do it” live series. He’s going to cook a three-course meal of your choice with you guiding him through the phone. What he doesn’t know, however, is that you’re planning on getting him to make one of the courses the same meal that you and him had ordered on your first date.
“’Are you going to make something?’ Good question! As a matter of fact, yes, I am making something! And hopefully it turns out okay... if not, blame y/n!” Jaeyoon laughs as he reads comments, awaiting your phone call.
“ ‘When are you going to start? What are you going to make?’ Well... honestly, I’m not even sure what I’m going to make. Today, y/n is going to tell me what to make over the phone so I’ll start as soon as she calls!” Jaeyoon smiles at the camera as he awaits your call. ring He picks up on the first ring, eager to get started.
“Angel you’re going on speaker and I’m live, okay? I mean you already know that but I’m just reminding you.” Jaeyoon says quietly into the phone before turning back to the camera and introducing you. “Fantasy, as some of you probably know, this is my girlfriend. Y/n say hi to Fantasy!”
“Hi” You say happily as you get a recipe for what Jaeyoon is going to make. “Today, our Jaeyoon is going to make a three-course meal! With the hepl of yours truly, of course.” Jaeyoon laughs into the phone at your statement as he questions you on what it is that he’s actually meant to be making.
“I’m glad you asked, Jae. Well, for the appetizer, it’s a chicken salad. It’s easy enough so you shouldn’t need too much guidance, or at least, I hope not.” You tease him. Jaeyoon starts getting what he needs from the fridge and cupboard as you read out the comments. “ ‘Jaeyoon should cook for Fantasy!’ ‘y/n should be in his lives more!’ ‘Eat well!’ Thank you for the last one! Also yes, Jaeyoon should totally cook for you guys and feature me in his lives more often!” “Nuh-uh, princess! You’ll take all my fans away!” You laugh at this as you jokingly tell him that he might be right before instructing him on what to put in the salad and how much.
Soon enough, Jaeyoon’s finished with the first course and puts it in the fridge for later. “Angel, what’s next?” He asks you just as you get a recipe up for the next meal. “Well, my dear boyfriend, I’m sure you’d be familiar with this one. If you remember what we had on our first date, that is!” You say excitedly into the phone as you tell him what he needs. “Okay... I’m sure Jae already knows what he’s making but Fantasy, in case you haven’t guessed already, it’s a creamy tuscan chicken! We actually had this on our first date so it’s pretty special for him to make this.” “Here we go again... y/n being hopelessly romantic!” Jaeyoon laughs as he begins to season the chicken. “Jaeyoon! Look, your fans think it’s cute!” It’s as if Jaeyoon can hear your pout over the phone as you complain about him calling you hopelessly romantic. “Angel, don’t worry, I think it’s cute too!” “I know” You giggle.
Jaeyoon heats the oil in the pan and starts placing the chicken in. “You know, I’m doing pretty good. If I do say so myself!” Jaeyoon smiles proudly at the camera. “Oh! I should tell Fantasy about that one time you nearly burnt the FNC building down!” You say with a smirk, although no one could see it. “Will you ever stop teasing me for it?” “Nope!” You say as he flips the chicken over. “Look, all of your fans want to know what happened! Can I tell them? Please?” You ask. “Fine!” He draws out the syllables. “I mean you were going to anyway, weren’t you?” “Yeah I was!” You laugh at the slight redness on your boyfriends cheeks.
“Well, one day I was over at the dorm hanging out with Jae and the guys and he decided to make ramen! Now, he’s not a bad cook, considering he’s only ever used recipes. Anyways, we all decided to watch a movie. It was about half way through when Jaeyoon decided he wanted to make the ramen so he got up and did that. He’d left the ramen in the water for a bit and came back to see what was happening as he let it cook. Jae  must have lost track of time because all of a sudden, Chani comes in and asks “Hyung, what’s that smell?” We all turned towards the kitchen as we saw smoke and Jae realized what he’s done. It was so funny! All of a sudden, Youngbin, Zuho, Jaeyoon and Rowoon all rushed to the kitchen while Dawon recorded and Inseong, Taeyang, Hwiyoung, Chani and myself burst out laughing. It turns out the ramen had been left for too long and had caught on fire so Youngbin, Zuho and Rowoon had to put it out. It’s safe to say that Rowoon sticks to cooking in the dorms now. Hey Jae, ask Dawon if he still has the video!” You laugh at the memory as you read the comments on Jaeyoon’s live. Fantasy all find it funny, too.
Jaeyoon’s already added the garlic, onions, tomatoes and spinach into the mix and is now putting the cream, salt and pepper into it. “Well it looks like I’m a much better cook now since there’s no fire this time! Y/n, do you know what you want me to make for dessert? I’m nearly done with this, angel.” Jaeyoon says as he adds the last ingredients - parmesan cheese and parsley - and stirs the mixture before mixing it one last time and putting the creamy chicken into the oven so it stays warm.
“As a matter of fact, I do know what to make next! How does Brownies sound?” You laugh as you see his face light up on the live. “Sounds perfect!” Jaeyoon says as he gets everything he needs to make them. You and him have made brownies together so many times that it’s just muscle memory now. The recipe is implanted in both of your heads. You smile while watching his live as he starts making them without needing any instructions.
“We have to make brownies when you come over again, y/n. It’s our thing.” Jaeyoon says as he pops them into the oven and turns back to the live, smiling as he starts reading comments. “ ‘Jaeyoon how are you?’ ‘What have you eaten today?’ ‘What’s everyone else doing?’ Okay firstly, I’m good, how about you? Second, I’ve had a few snacks but when these brownies are done, y/n should be here and we’ll eat them together. Speaking of which, y/n, you can get off the phone now and come over! Third, honestly I’m not sure what everyone else is doing. I think they’re just relaxing.” After Jaeyoon finishes what he was saying, you quickly tell him that you’re heading over now before getting into your car and driving over to the dorms.
“Boo!”
“Y/N! You scared me!”
“Yeah that was the whole point!” You laugh as Jae calms his heartbeat.
“You clear the bench and I’ll get the brownies out, Jae.” You call out to him, already making your way over to the oven.
“Well thank you so much for joining me for another episode of “I can do it” today, Fantasy! I’ll feature y/n in lives more if you want? As it turns out, I’m a pretty good cook. We’d better get going now before the food gets cold! Bye bye Fantasy! Goodnight or morning! See you later!” And with that, your boyfriend ends the live.
“Jae, I’ve got to admit, this all looks amazing! Let’s eat!” You say as you portion the food. Jaeyoon brings the plates over to the living room where he places the food on a table and moves couch pillows out of the way so the two of you can sit there.
“Why are we eating on the couch today? I thought Bin didn’t want us to make it messy.” You ask, bringing extra napkins in case anything spills.
“Well, angel, I want to cuddle while we eat brownies and sitting at the kitchen table’s not really ideal in that scenario, is it? Besides, it’s comfy here.” Jaeyoon smiles up at you as he puts the salad bowl and two forks between you. You smile up at him as you eat the salad he made, proud of your boyfriend’s cooking skills... even if this is just a salad. Soon enough you’ve both finished and are onto the second of the three courses.
“Jae is amazing!” You say as you take a bite of the creamy chicken. It really does taste good. Now you’re even prouder of him! You’ve both moved onto dessert now and Jaeyoon moves the plate of brownies to the side before patting the space next to him.
“Come here, angel.” He says with a pout. You move closer to your boyfriend and lean on him as he wraps his arms around your frame. The two of you stay like that for a while, finding comfort in each other’s warmth and taking in the faint smell of brownies and him.
“Thanks for helping me today, princess. You’re an amazing instructor” Jaeyoon giggles, his voice calming and soft like honey.
“You’re welcome, baby! You’re an amazing cook.” You retort with a smile and small giggle as a content sigh leaves your lips, and Jaeyoon pulls you closer, the both of you staying in this position and eventually falling asleep to the sound of the other’s heartbeat.

Inside Out and Upside Downs
Hi all.  Thought I’d update on various and sundry agenda items going on in my life.  Never a dull moment ‘round here.
HEALTH
Firstly, let’s talk about my innards.  There’s been a whole lot of activity going on with regard to my innards of late.  Thanks to the excitement of my Disney flu adventure and my New Years ICU party, I am now the subject of a great deal of medical speculation and attention, from a variety of parties.  I have a standing weekly blood draw and appointment on Thursdays with my hematologist (fancy word for blood doctor) to monitor my platelet levels, and other misc blood-related information that concerns immunoglobulins and weird, mysterious things like that.  I have had two appointments, as well as a momma-jomma lab workup, with a rheumatologist (fancy word for doctor who specializes in autoimmune issues).  I’ve had an appointment to set up care with a brand-new-to-me primary care physician.  And in the middle of all of this, I decided that since I’m going to be in/around the hospital so frequently, I might as well do a short course of physical therapy for my ankle - I never got around to doing it, so now is the time.  So that’s a recurring weekly appointment on Tuesdays.  I’ve also got random other crap, like a random head MRI happening tomorrow, and I’m sure there will be random tests, scans, and studies that random doctors will order at random times, and I’ll have to fit it into the schedule.  I am being thoroughly examined, inside out.  And with all of these medical opinions, appointments, tests and what not - in the last 24 days, there has been NO concrete diagnosis or evidence about why this whole thing actually happened.  There are several theories, the two most likely of which are a) I have an autoimmune disorder.  Well, we already know I have one autoimmune disorder (a not-so-bad one, called Graves Disease/hyperthyroidism, which I was first diagnosed with in 2006, and which involves your own body perceiving your own thyroid gland as a foreign object, and attacking it with antibodies).  But now there is some evidence that I may have a second one, possibly a more problematic one, that is causing my immune system to overreact to normal viruses and things, and go on self-destructive rampages against my own platelets.  Dumbass immune system.  Now, what IS this second autoimmune disorder?  THAT we don’t know.  Because, the rheumatologist ran that momma-jomma test I was telling you about, and all that showed up is this one value called a positive ANA test which indicated “daaamn, there’s something f%^ed going on in this lady’s immune system!”  It was a very high positive result.  But, the specific tests to identify antibodies for known issues like lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, etc. were all negative at this time.  So.  To be continued with that whole theory.....
Then there is theory #2, which is b) maybe this whole thing really WAS just the flu.  Maybe the strain of virus I got was really bad, and it resulted in such a pronounced war that it just took a toll.  Dunno.
Anyway.  We’ll obviously be following this medical mystery with my innards closely the next few weeks.  Oh, and one more thing: so my platelet levels are sorta trending down.  At hospital discharge, I was at like 313K, then the next week it was like 250K, then 180K, and yesterday, 146K.  They’re going to keep monitoring, and the hope is that the downtrend will plateau at some point (preferably above 30K), and then it will start to climb up when my own bone marrow gets its shit together and starts producing new platelets.  If that doesn’t happen - I’m looking at more IVIG infusion treatments.  So let’s see how it all goes down.
WORK
A second area of activity has been my job!  The spring semester at Uuuu! started on January 13, and I am teaching two courses this time around, for the first time since 2016.  I am teaching my studio dance course, per usual, but I also agreed to a late plea for help from my former department to teach a lecture/discussion course that I’ve taught jillions of times before, but haven’t done in about four years.  It feels good to be back in classroom teaching mode.  The course meets three times a week, on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.  So I’m quite busy, leaving the house around 8 am to drop the kids off at school, then getting back behind the wheel and making the hour-long drive to campus, arriving by about 9:30 am and teaching my two courses back to back.  I have a big huge hike between my classes too, because they’re on opposite sides of campus, so by the time I’m done teaching, it’s about 12:20 and then I have this big long hike back to my car, then the drive back home, and I arrive around 1:30 pm.  I grab a bite to eat, then at 2:45 its time to get the kids.  Then three days a week, they have their extracurricular activities after school, so I’m shuttling them to those things.  Then Tuesdays and Thursdays, all my medical appointments, which have been taking the majority of my mornings and early afternoons.  Phew!  This is all a far cry from about a year ago, when I had several mornings a week to go for a long run, either in my neighborhood or at the local state park, and I was training intensely twice a week with my Spartan SGX coach.  I’ve had to seriously curtail my working out - I took a spill on my first run following the hospitalization, and the entire family freaked out about my putting myself at a bleed risk if I were to fall, bump myself, or otherwise get an injury, even a minor one, while exercising.  This has been a huge crimp in my style, not working out - and if I weren't so busy with teaching, I think it would seriously depress me.  But I keep telling myself its only temporary, and soon we’ll have some answers to my situation, and I”ll be able to get back into it.  Till then, I’m trying to get back into meal prep and eating clean, and doing some mild exercise like light jogs and walks, light weight training, etc.
ADULTING
My mention of weight training is perhaps a segue to this next update, which I’ll keep brief and annoyingly vague.  I am going through some painful adulting right now, that makes some moments feel like I’m being swallowed up by a tsunami.  I’m gonna survive... but, yeah.  I’m wading in the flood right now.
Tumblr media
Okay, now for some miscellaneous updates.  Mainly so I can post some pictures.  This has been very text-heavy for my tastes.
MISC
On the topic of clean eating..... did you know that both papaya and pomegranate are natural platelet boosters?  Supposedly.  I’ve been doing a lot of research on foods and other natural ways to help boost my platelet production, and these were the top two foods that were consistently mentioned on platelet disorders blogs and forums.  I confess I’m not a big fan of these fruits - but I’ve tried to put my tastebuds aside, and incorporate them into every day.  Happily, papayas are widely available in the Miami area year-round.
Tumblr media
I’ve handled the pomegranate thing by buying 100% pomegranate juice, and making cocktails of pomegranate + papaya juice (which is papaya pulp mixed in pear juice).
Tumblr media
On the topic of foods and eating well - here is my guilty indulgence of late.  I ADOOOOORE ramen bowls.  ADORE.  And I know they are the opposite of low-carb and healthy.... but I have been making a ton of them at home lately.  I try to make them as healthy as I can, by 1) only using half of the ramen spice packet that comes with the noodles - this cuts the sodium to a tolerable amount (plus I drink lots of water), 2) I sautée minced garlic + approximately one full cup of shiitake mushrooms + approximately 1.5 full cups of baby spinach leaves in a dash of olive oil, and add to every bowl I make (mushrooms are full of B-vitamins and, alongside garlic, are huge immunity boosters, and spinach is full of iron and calcium, and is a good thing for me to be eating to make my blood sort itself out) , and 3) I often either crack an egg over the entire boiling mixture right at the end, or I add in sliced hard-boiled egg for extra folate and protein.  And I sometimes add in a handful of raw shredded carrots right at the end, for a little crunch, color, fiber, and beta carotene.  I *think* that I’m doing my best to make this indulgence food a little healthier, and tailored to my specific medical situation.
Tumblr media
Soup has been a huge craving of late, because we had a surprising cold spell in Miami.  It got down to 39F day before yesterday!  That’s probably the coldest its ever been since we moved to Florida.
Afternoon snuggle time was especially snuggly - Dey and I were huddled for warmth!
Tumblr media
My ability to run and work out at a high intensity may be somewhat muted at the moment, and this has been sort of a hard mental adjustment for me.  But I am trying to get outside and do things, because it makes me feel better, and also I imagine the vitamin D is good for me.  The other day, I was feeling pretty dumpy and blah - so I did something that for some reason I’d been putting off, “saving” for a special occasion, whatever.  I cut the tags off of a brand-new Spartan licensed active top that I’d purchased on Cyber Monday, put it on, and went for a light 2-mile jog in the neighborhood.  I felt silly in a way of making a big thing of it in my head - but the truth is, it lifted my spirits.
Tumblr media
What else... Oh, this was exciting!  GUESS WHAT, dudes.  On Monday, I saw a real live MANATEE in the lake behind our house!  I could hardly believe my eyes.  A neighbor had reported on our community WhatsApp group just the day before seeing a manatee from her backyard.  She posted a picture of it, which I am shamelessly going to post here.  The manatee I saw, about 24 hours later, was different - it was considerably smaller than this one, I think probably a juvenile (not quite a baby, but definitely not humongous like this one).  But it was swimming slowly near the sea wall that abuts our backyard, munching on some sea grass just like this big manatee.  I did my best to run into the house and call the kids to come out as quietly as they could to see it - I think they caught a tiny glimpse, but our footsteps must have spooked it, because it definitely swam away quickly.  I hope we’ll see it again!
Photographic evidence that we are LEGIT Floridians who hang out with manatees :)
Tumblr media
Last but not least - on the topic of water creatures, gotta give a shout-out to my Vev, who “leveled up” at his swimming lessons this week to Junior Swim Team!  The swim school has about 10 levels through which kids have to work to get to this point, and in the last ~18 months, Vev has completed them all.  I was somewhat nostalgic and verklempt when he got his ribbon this time - I feel like it was only yesterday that we took him to swimming school for the first time, where he screamed bloody murder and cried the entire duration of his 25 minute assessment, clinging desperately to his teacher and feeling panicky about letting go in the water.  How far he’s come!
Tumblr media
(by the way, Dey is also doing wonderfully at swimming, and is only like 1.5 levels away from his own Junior Swim Team ribbon).
So some of my life is inside out and upside down right now, it is true.  But some of it is Upside-Up.  I work hard EVERY day to focus on the Upside-Up, and what a treat it is to see.  These kids, the sunshine I get to enjoy here, the afternoon snuggle times, delicious food that also is good for me.... net balance is that life is good, I’m still alive and kicking, and everything is gonna work out fine.
Toodles!

Blood and Flame
This is part three of To Honor And Protect. You can find all other IkeSen works of mine here. NOTE: There is mention of pretty dark violence and some blood.
Their lessons were postponed for the week.
He understood, of course. His Highness wanted the Princess to spend as much time as possible with her betrothed before he returned south. No doubt there were plans drawn up and alliances secured, paperwork to fill out and wedding plans to make. Doubtless she was busy. Besides--it freed up his schedule again, leaving him with time to do some light reading.
If he could get any done.
For some reason, he couldn’t stop thinking about her. She appeared in his head like a vision, clear as day--the way she swept around her study, her skirts swirling around her ankles like the rush of the ocean. The way those dark curls twisted and twined against her neck. The way her long fingers touched his arm, and her smile--oh, that smile, the memory alone leaving him breathless. It drove him to distraction. What was happening to him?
“Mitsunari.”
He started and blinked owlishly at the hand in front of him, fingers splayed over the text. Following it up to the inevitable conclusion, he smiled at Masamune. “Hi. I’m sorry.”
“I’m impressed.” The man grinned, his silver eyepatch glinting. “And I can’t tell at what, yet: either you can read straight through my hand, or you were so spaced out that for the last two minutes, you completely ignored me.”
“Wait, your hand was there that long?”
“Uh, yeah.”
Mitsunari tittered nervously, brushing back his hair. “I’m sorry. That was very rude of me.”
“Ah, I don’t care about that.” Masamune slumped into the chair across from him, setting a bowl of food down heavily on the table. “You haven’t eaten, so I brought you something.”
“Oh! Thank you!” His stomach growled loudly at the reminder, so Mitsunari shoved his book to the side and tucked in. Masamune cocked a brow at him.
“What, you aren’t gonna try and multitask?”
“Mmm. Not right now.”
The second eyebrow joined the first. Mitsunari stared back around a messy mouthful of ramen noodles. “Mmmmmmmm?”
“What’s got you all tied up?”
“Tied up?” Mitsunari took a sip of broth, gingerly considering the question. “Nothing. I guess I’m just a bit distracted is all. I’m sure I’ll be better soon.”
“No shit.” Masamune appraised him carefully. “Something to do with the plans for the ball? Or the increased workload? You usually do well with it.”
It was odd that Masamune was so concerned. Granted, just as Hideyoshi bucked Mitsunari’s image of a bandit lord, Masamune long ago had proven himself more than just the hotheaded stuntman who begged for the position. No one had expected he would take over the cooking responsibilities single-handedly, nor did they anticipate his general interest in keeping morale high. Mitsunari considered his question seriously.
“No. That’s all been fine. I’m not sure, if I’m honest. It’s been this way ever since the day after I served her Highness as a bodyguard.”
Masamune’s grin could cut a man in half. “Oh? Really, now?”
“Mhm. I’ve just been... you know.” He shrugged, tucking back into the food. “I’m sure this weird malaise will pass. Maybe I caught a little cold?”
“Oh, I’m sure that’s it.” How odd; he sounded so sarcastic. “Right. Anyway, you also got mail.”
“Did I?”
“I think it’s another assignment request. I haven’t checked it.” Masamune set the letter on the table and scooted back. “Anyway, I just wanted to bring you all that. I’ve got a bit of training. Yukimura roped me into sparring with Kenshin.”
Mitsunari winced. “I’ll be sure to pray for you.”
“Pray for me? Shit, this is gonna be great. Pray for our blades.” And with that scything grin, he turned on his heel and left. Mid-spoonful of broth, Mitsunari shredded open the envelope.
“Need a friend to go on a walk with me. Would you be available tonight? If so, please come to the tower at ten. Be discrete.”
He opened the door to step out and ran into Hideyoshi--almost quite literally.
“Oh!” Mitsunari stepped back. “I’m so sorry!”
“No, I’m sorry, I--” Hideyoshi trailed off, realizing all at once that the man before him was dressed in a thick cloak and unmarked training clothing. His eyes narrowed. “Where are you going?”
“I...” Hells. He was bad at lying and knew it. Casting his eyes around the room, he finally gave up the ghost. Besides, it was bad form to lie to your superior. “I got a request.”
“A request?”
“Yes.” He produced the letter. “The Princess wishes to go on a walk, and she asked that I be discrete.”
This apparently didn’t satisfy Hideyoshi. His face went through a range of expressions before settling on suspicion. “For what purpose?”
“I don’t know.”
“You don’t?”
“No?” Should he? He read the letter again as if it held some secret he hadn’t caught on to. “I suppose she just wanted to be left alone?”
Those hazel eyes scanned him for one long moment, and then he sighed. “Fine. Well, make sure you keep her safe.”
“Of course.”
“And--” Hideyoshi paused. “And don’t tell anyone else you’re doing this, letter or otherwise. It could look bad.”
Well, that was possible. No doubt Lord Kennyo wouldn’t like his fiancee going out at night. Perhaps he’d worry about her safety overmuch. Nodding in assent, Mitsunari wished his superior a good night and slipped out the door.
He met the Princess on the first floor of the tower as requested. Her cloak was pulled high over her head, the curls tucked back where no one could see. As soon as he stepped in, her whole expression illuminated.
“You came!”
“Of course I did.” Mitsunari smiled back at her. He really had to find that candle--the second he stepped inside, his whole heart calmed. “Where to tonight?”
“I wanted to go to the docks again. I like listening to the waves.”
“Then let’s be off.”
They traversed the slick steps down the cliffs carefully. The Princess refused a lantern on the grounds that it made them too obvious, so it was up to the light of the moon and stars to guide their way. Mitsunari went before her, his hand extended backwards and stabilizing hers, but when they reached the bottom and the whole ocean lay before them, he had to admit it was a stunning sight. Chill wind snapped at their hands and faces. Still she smiled.
“Perfect,” she sighed, and tread along the docks. He followed after her, stifling his footsteps as best he knew how. It felt wrong to intrude. Her footsteps creaked gently on the planks, breath spiraling skyward. Was he dreaming? It felt that way. Something about the vast, open stretch of ocean before them, the infinite sky above, and her, small but prominent and beautiful nonetheless, and he wasn’t convinced he was conscious. He stopped at some point to soak it all in, because she turned on her heel and smiled at him, her eyes brilliant in the dark. “Are you coming?”
“Oh! Yes.” He hurried after her. “Sorry.”
“What were you thinking about?”
“Just how lovely everything was.”
Her only response was a smile, and that made every star in the sky pale in comparison. Side by side they walked the length of the pier, standing at the last stretch toward the Trinity Islands.
“You know,” she laughed, “I don’t know how to swim.”
“You don’t?” He stared aghast at her. “And you live on the edge of an ocean?”
“I know. It feels like a tragedy waiting to happen. I should do something about that.”
He didn’t connect the dots between her answer and her suddenly drawing off her cloak and folding it, nor did he connect it to her slipping off her leather boots. He did, however, understand when she took one step off the dock and plunged into the icy water.
“Princess!” He gasped, lunging forward, but she was just fine. She clutched at the edge of the dock, smiling up at him.
“This is colder than I expected.” Her laughter echoed across the docks. “Come on in and help me!” As he was going to help her out, she brushed off his hands. “No no, help me swim.”
Oh. Oh. Mitsunari thought about it for one moment, finally deciding that--well, yes, it was a security concern that she couldn’t swim, plus she was in the water anyway, and, well--
He folded his cloak and placed it by hers, removing his boots and setting them alongside their effects. Bracing himself for the shock, he swung off the edge and dipped himself into the frozen waves.
“You know, Princess,” he remarked with a smile, “I’m certain everyone will worry if you come back soaked.”
“Oh, nevermind that. I’ll just say I fell in. Clumsy me. Now show me how.”
Guiding her arms away from the dock, Mitsunari braced her against his chest for stability. “Alright, first you have to kick your legs, like so.”
“I can’t see that, Mitsunari.”
He smiled bashfully. She was right, after all. Reaching under the water, he steered her legs by hand to imitate his. “Like that.”
“Okay.”
“And you balance yourself with your arms, like I’m doing now. That’s how best to tread water, at least. It’s harder in stronger tides--in a lake, it’s much calmer than this.”
“I’d imagine.” She stretched her arms out wide and laughed. “I feel ridiculous.”
Mitsunari chuckled. “You don’t look ridiculous.”
“Oh?” She tossed the whole of her sodden curls, grinning at him. Starlight glinted off her skin, shimmering on the rolling waves around them. “Then how do I look?”
“Beautiful,” he answered, honest and well-intentioned. “And like a woman learning how to swim. Are you ready for me to let go?”
“You won’t let me sink, will you?”
“Never.”
He released her by increments, the icy waves rolling in to steal the warmth she’d given him, and almost immediately she dipped beneath the water. Mitsunari fished her out with a free hand, and she sputtered to the surface laughing and kicking. “Oh!”
“Are you alright?”
“Just fine! It’s harder than it looks!”
“I suppose it is.” He laughed and drew her back in again, balancing her with a hand and clutching to the dock. “Maybe we should try again some other time, when it isn’t freezing cold and dark.”
“Oh, fine. That’s fair.”
He hoisted her up first, clambering up after. Apparently some nail was sticking out of the planks, because it sliced straight through his hand. Blood spattered dark onto the wood.
“Oh, would you look at that?” He remarked mildly. The Princess’ eyes went wide.
“How--how did that not hurt? Are you okay?” Her hands flew to his, turning it over in the moonlight. “We should get you some attention for that.”
“It’s fine.” Smiling reassuringly back at her, he closed his hand and watched the blood seep between his fingers. “I barely even feel it.”
The question lingered in her eyes. Mitsunari paused, the cold air sweeping over the two of them. “Should we just head back, or...?”
“Maybe we should drip dry a little first. I shouldn’t track water through the whole of the city. And...” She eyed his hand again. “Should--would you--”
“Tell you the story?”
The Princess went very quiet for a long moment before answering. “Yes.”
Where did he even begin? Mitsunari listened to the quiet dripping of blood on wood before clearing his throat. “I knew I could do it from a young age. Some people take well to such things. I was little, and we were a remote lordship, and I had access to a lot of books most people didn’t have anymore. We had entire collections long purged from elsewhere--and that included the arcane. My mother knew the arts. She mostly did small things: healing charms, and things like that.”
“I didn’t know you even could do that.”
“Oh! Of course.” He smiled at her. “There are all kinds. I know most people don’t hear about that sort anymore. It was lost to time. But the other things--darker things. We had that too. And I read that as well.”
He paused. “I told myself at the time it was purely for intellectual purposes. I think I even really meant it. But then my father passed, and my mother got sick--and here I was, poised to become the next lord of the domain. I didn’t want it. Not like that. Not as it was. And I was young at the time.”
“So what did you do?”
Mitsunari cast his gaze over the Northern Sea. “I heard rumors that a few of the local leaders were planning on poisoning me and my mother and seizing control. This wasn’t normal, nor was it a sure thing, but I was desperate and convinced that they were behind her illness. So I invited them all to a feast at the palace. I wasn’t so foolish as to think I could handle them all in combat, so...”
The Princess cupped her cold hands around his clean palm. “What then?”
“The... the thing you must understand, Princess, is how magic works. You can’t give and give and expect the universe to keep giving. It takes, too. If you shift the curtain of reality to allow one thing to happen, it rustles and shutters the next thing. It requires a sacrifice.” With that, he squeezed his bloody hand shut and watched it swirl into the air, vibrating and pulsing until it transformed into a wild flame, drying their clothes and warming her. She gasped. “And I won’t lie to you and say that I didn’t know that. I did. It was the letter of the law, and I wasn’t about to make my mother or myself pay that price. So...” He sighed, then ripped off the bandage. “So I killed the first of them and used him as one. It would be a disservice to describe to you the scene after that. I can only tell you it was horrible.”
“I...” She paused. “I heard you ripped out their eyes with the man’s blood and then gorged them on their own.”
He averted his eyes, too ashamed to confirm it. He didn’t have to. She knew. “And after that? After I went to all those lengths?” He huffed a laugh. “Mother died anyway. It was stupid of me to think that somehow, doing that would save her, but I truly... No, I won’d say that. It would be impolite at best to say I wasn’t in my right mind. I did it anyway. It doesn’t much matter if I was. I had long enough to calculate and assess, and I did, and I never turned back. I even took the last one as a hostage. I knew that if word spread, the City would send their guard to get me. Sure enough, they did, and I used the last one to spread a shield over the townspeople. They didn’t need to suffer for my decisions.”
“Were...” She hesitated. “Were they even really plotting against you?”
Mitsunari fixed his eyes on the flame, considering a long time. “I never saw proof. As best as I know, I sent innocent eight men to a brutal grave. All I can hope or now is to serve and protect as many as possible inside the City. It’s more than I deserve, and I intend to make good on that.”
As he came back to himself, he realized with a start that she was still holding his hand. Why? He stared at it, wondering when she would let go, recoil, move away and abandon him on the dock. And yet--and yet she didn’t. No. She clutched tighter yet.
“That flame. Can I touch it?”
“That?” Mitsunari wrapped his hand around it and guided it between them. “It’s safe. Just heat, really.”
At last she released him, moving her hands back and forth through it. A moment. She smiled cautiously, then did it again. “I’ve never--I’ve never seen magic. It’s been forbidden for hundreds of years, I never thought I’d see it.”
“It’s our secret.” He smiled at her. “I’m sorry. I know you didn’t need to hear all of this.”
“No. I did.” And her hands were back again, slipping between his, but they were warm now, and it radiated all the way through him. “I don’t know what to say. It’s terrible. It’s horrific. But... I don’t know. I can’t reconcile it to you. I can’t imagine you doing the same now.”
“I wouldn’t. Never again. I promised myself and all of those men that I’d never make that mistake.”
“Never ever?”
“Not that I know of.” Mitsunari smiled as cheerily as he could. “Not unless it was the only thing I could do to protect the City.”
They were dry at last. Together they slipped on their boots and cloaks and he put out the flame with a hand, trudging up the slick steps as a pair, and when he took her to the door of the tower, she turned to face him.
“Mitsunari?”
“Yes, Princess?”
She fixed him with that bright gaze and declared firmly, “I’m fond of you anyway.”
He felt his smile clear down to his toes. “I’m honored.”
“I mean it. Really and truly. It doesn’t erase the past, but I am. I’m fond of you.”
What else could he say? He knelt before her and took her hand in his, gentle as could be, and kissed the back of it. “It’s more than I deserve, and it’s all I could ever ask for. Thank you, Princess.”
With that, she gave him a wide smile and opened the doorway, disappearing inside. He knelt there for a while longer, radiating in the warmth she’d left behind.

It’s Been A While - Chapter 8
So, yeah, hello, been a while, the irony haha, yeah past few days ive been looking at this old fic and finally made a breakneck through. I’ve done a full step outline for it so hopefully I can write this to it’s  final chapter of 14! Enjoy!
Find the other chapters in my master post found here http://smile-smile-ichthys.tumblr.com/post/156355452751/masterpost
Honestly I’ve not posted fic for so long I don’t know who to tag so....yeah enjoy if anyone’s reads haha!
I was so not looking forward to today. I knew for a fact that that mob boss would be at work waiting for me for my answer. An answer I didn’t want to give. I had sat up all night trying to think up of a way to get out of it before I had to say yes, but nothing. My brain just fried and I fell asleep. Stupid, fucking brain, just when I needed it to seriously work. So not helpful. To be honest, I think deep down I knew I would just have to say yes and find a way around it later. For one thing, if I said no now, sure I could disarm him and defend myself, but he wouldn’t be alone. I couldn’t defend myself against three big mafia guys. I was good but not that good. Plus, it wasn’t worth it. I had to be sneaky with this. I breathed a huge sigh of relief when I turned up and couldn’t see the guy from a couple of nights ago. I could work in peace today…until tonight. Mafia work at night mainly. Under cover of darkness, of course. No doubt they’d be waiting for me at the end of the day. Ready to pounce. Yeah, it gave me more time to think, but still no bright ideas. It was going to have to be a yes. Either way, I worked incredibly hard throughout the day. Contacting new clients for sponsorships and so on. My boss was incredibly happy with my progress. So was I to be fair. I guess the whole ‘mafia boss waiting for me’ was a huge shove up the arse to work hard. Who knew?
“Alice, did you manage to erm…you know?” my colleague asked me. “Don’t worry, I sorted it, you’re fine, I promise” I smiled at her. It wasn’t her fault. Over eager people can make mistakes. This one just happened to be deadly is all. “I honestly can’t thank you enough for what you did, could I take you out for food or something as a thank you?” “It’s fine, you promised to be more careful in the future and that’s all I care about” “Thanks! He sounded so scary on the phone and looked so nice on paper, I mean 46 years old, he said his name was Ju and…” “He told me his name was Dai…hmm” I thought that was probably a fake name he gave to my colleague, hence how he worked out so quickly I wasn’t her. Well, no wonder he seemed so nice on the outside to her. “Maybe a work name? Anyway, thanks, I appreciate it” “No problem darlin’” I smiled and got back to work. It felt good to see her back smiling again, bouncy as ever. Other than my growing anxiety, the day went just fine. I decided to wait until everyone else had gone home before I would head out myself. No need to draw attention or put anyone else in danger. Sure enough, when I left I saw them waiting for me. I swallowed my fear and approached them. One last go. “Well?” Dai asked? Damn I had forgotten just how big this guy was. And how tattooed. If it was any other guy I would appreciate them. “My answer is no, I said there was a mistake” I explained. “Your colleague’s mistake, your company’s mistake, not mine” “Wouldn’t exactly say you being in the mafia is our mistake…” “Don’t get cocky with me” he threatened, pulling a gun out discreetly. Shit. Fine. It was worth one last attempt. “Well?” “Alright, fine, yes we’ll take you on as clients” I sighed and he put the gun away “my boss will be in contact with you soon about further details” “I look forward to his call” Dai smiled sinisterly and left via a back alley. Finally alone, I had to lean against the nearest wall for support. My legs had turned to jelly after all of that. Taking a few deep breaths the world slowly stopped spinning, as well as the feeling coming back into my legs, and I decided to go get food out tonight. It delayed me going back like this to Eisuke and Soryu, who were bound to ask questions. I needed something filling. Ramen. Hmm ramen yes, and I saw noodle bar not far from here. I hobbled my way over and hauled myself onto a chair at the bar. Ordering the biggest bowl I could possibly have, I happily sipped at my drink. “Not gone back to the hotel yet?” the man next to me asked. “Huh? What the fuck?!” I jumped out of my skin. How the fuck did this guy know me? “Chill, I’m Mamo, friends with Eisuke, you met me only briefly” I racked my brains and vaguely remembered this guy in the background of when I arrived. “Oh right, I’m sorry, been a long day” I said, immediately calming down. “No shit, what’s gotten you so riled up?” he asked. “Just…stuff” “Gotcha” Both of our bowls of noodles arrived at the same time, and we had ended up with the same thing. I chuckled to myself. “So, how do you know Eisuke?” I asked. “Could say through work, I’m a detective” he explained, quickly slurping. “So you work with security?” I asked. “You could say that” he nodded “you know him from school, was it in England?” “Yeah, he and Soryu spent several years at my school, got pretty close” “Sure, sure” We happily ate our food in silence after that and Mamo ended up paying both bills. “Erm…didn’t have to” I said. “Wanted to, come on, I’ll walk you back” he said. Well, he was being kind. I smiled and hopped off my chair, following him closely. Having a run in with the mafia definitely had taken its toll on my confidence. It greatly annoyed me that I didn’t feel safe in my own company anymore. As soon as I got this huge issue out the way, I would definitely ask Soryu to teach me more martial arts. When we got back to the hotel, Eisuke was in the lobby, waiting. “Where have you been?” he asked me. “Well, I decided to go out partying…have sex with a homeless guy….oh then I took some drugs…Eisuke I’m not a child for Gods sake” “I like this girl” Mamo laughed. “I went for food and bumped into Mamo, we ended up eating together and he walked me back, is that ok your Highness?” I asked. “I worried alright? Thought you finished work at 7, was going to suggest we went out for food” he said. Was he sulking and getting jealous all over again? Wow, hasn’t changed a bit. “Well, next time maybe” I said. “Fine, I’ll see you tomorrow” he said, skulking off. Mamo burst out laughing and slapped me on the back. “You got guts kid, love it, seeing him all jealous like that….ain’t ever seen it before” he laughed. “He used to get jealous all the time when he was in school” “Really? Oh do tell me kid” he asked. “Let’s go to the bar then, and I’ll tell you everything detective!” --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- “I….I erm….” The boy was shaking in his boots as he stood before me. This kid clearly wanted to ask me out, which I was going to say no, no time for romance, but he couldn’t get the words out. I couldn’t exactly cut him off, but damn it was taking a while. “You can say it, I believe in you” I smiled slightly. “I like you, will you erm…go out with me?” he finally asked. “You’re a good guy but honestly? No, I’m not looking for anything romantic wise right now, but hey, you got out what you wanted to say!” I said happily. “I…I guess, thanks for being nice about it” he said, running off embarrassed. “No problem” I continued on my way to my dorm when Eisuke stopped in front of me. “He asked, didn’t he?” he asked and I nodded “What did you say?” I didn’t answer and kept walking. This was fun. “Alice, come on, what did you say?” “I said yes” I lied. “What? But you don’t even like him so why? Looks like I’ll have to put my plan into action” he pulled out a box of what looked like crickets. “Eisuke, what the fuck?” I asked “I said no you idiot!” “What?” “Why the hell would I say yes? And why do you have live crickets?” I asked. “Erm…I didn’t want you making a mistake, giving into peer pressure or something…so I researched that guy and he has a fear of crickets so…” “So you’d use that against him, dude that’s cruel” I laughed and kept walking. He hurried to keep up. “What he’d deserve if he made you say yes” “And what makes you say he would make me say yes?” “Like I said, peer pressure” I rolled my eyes. “You’re ridiculous when you’re jealous” “I’m not jealous!” He argued. “Maybe not in the romantic sense, but in my company sense, yes you damn are” laughed and he pouted badly. It was from then on I knew how smart and just how sneaky Eisuke could be when he put his mind to it. And had jealousy as a motive. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Mamo loved the story and I had promised to tell him more when I could. But reminiscing about the past gave me an idea. This mob guy wasn’t going to back down easily, especially since I had said yes to him. Maybe Eisuke’s idea of finding your enemy’s weakness could help me. If I found out his weakness, I could use it to blackmail him out of the contract. Easy! Well, I had to find one first.

Best Friend! Yoongi (pt2)
Tumblr media
 PART ONE !!
word count: 1500+ idk lmao
alsO this is my thiRD time uploading this wtf im sorry i keep making mistakes
-       Okay so like let’s be honest you guys would probably low key live together
-       like you’d have a draw full of your clothes in his closet and you’d probably wear his sweaters without even realising and he’d have his own toothbrush in your bathroom
-       and he’d always turn up at your house with a packet of Doritos and demand to play Mario Kart only to get really sulky when he loses
-       “leave me alone, you cheated”
-       “yoongi, you can exactly cheat at mAriO kART”
-       “yeah whatever go make me a sandwich or somethin”
-       “do it yourself lazy ass”
-       he’d probably text you at 3 am like aLL THE TIME and you’ll always reply despite being half asleep and it’d be him asking for your opinion of some lyrics or he’d send you a lil demo like “I totally haven’t been working on this for 3 months,, tell me you hate it”
-       I feel like late night drives would be a really common thing for you guys like he’d text you at 11pm “hey wanna get out for a bit?” and he’d come and pick you up and you’d head for the empty highway and you’d wind down the windows and turn up the music really loud and you’d laugh and sing along and your hair would tangle in the wind and push his hair out of his eyes
-       And once it calmed down you would rest your head on your palm and close your eyes and just feel the cold wind blowing against your face and you’d look at the front window and see the few stars drowned out by the street lights all covered in a thin fog and it would be the most beautiful thing ever
-       And he’d look at you for a second that felt like an eternity and a really small smile would play at his lips and he’d reach out gently punch your shoulder and you’d turn to look at him and he’d quickly flash you a gummy smile and fdsjhgf
-       You’d leave the car radio playing songs in a language neither of you understood on full volume in the middle of no where, as to not get a noise complaint lmao
-       You’d go and spend all the 7$ you had at a convenience store for breakfast at 4 am and then drive up a hill to watch the sun rise and eat kinoko no yama (both your guys’ favourite Japanese confectionary n if you don’t know what it is then pls go try it immediately it will bless your life)
-       I honestly don't think you guys would call each other a lot, which is maybe why you spend so much time together in person, to hear each other’s voices,,, but I think when you’re not together you’d always be texting each other nonsense jokes that no one else could possibly understand
-       But irl he’d probably never laugh at your jokes and tell you how you’re not funny but you’d just smirk and start tickling him and he’d yell at you to stop while smiling like an idiot
-       “y/N I SWEAR TO GOD I WILL DISOWN U AS A FRIEND”
-       “lol yoongi look you’re laughing, I told you I was funny !!”
-       Tbh you’d argue All The Time
-       “y/n wtf is that my shirt I was looking fOr thAt”
-       “youRE THE ONE WHO LEFT IT AT MY HOUSE”
-       OR like “yoongi can you get me some water”
-       “get it yourself lazy ass”
-       “aftER EVERYTHING I DO FOR YOU”
-       And “yoongi can you carry me, my feet hUrt sO BAD”
-       “like hell I can lift you”
-       “WHAT ARE YOU SAYING”
-       “udsgfd iM TOO WEAK??”
-       “YEAH I THOUGHT SO”
-       I feel like music would be the only thing you guys don't argue about like you both have such broad music tastes and appreciate any and every song and you’d always recommend songs to each other and you’d make each other playlists and he’d save them all and listen to them when he was unmotivated to work
-       Honestly tho he probably likes to make you feed him
-       Liked youd be on your phone and he’d walk in with a bowl of ramen and shove it into your hands then lay down on a bean bag
-       “you made me food?”
-       “lol no ofc not, feed me”
-       “wtf no”
-       “please”
-       “only if I can have some”
-       and he’d roll his eyes but agree and you’d end up eating most of it and he’d complain that he didn’t make it for you but then you’d counter with “wHY would you give it to me in the first place?! Ofc im gonna eat it !!”
-       “You’re sO greedy”
-   you know how some friends are like “touchy” like hug whenever they say hello or bye or whatever well yeah that’s not this friendship
-   I don’t think you’ve ever actually hugged yoongi
-   Rephrase,,,,, I don't think yoongi has ever acTUALLy hugged you
-   except maybe this one time he had to go away for a bit and he muttered a bored bye as he left but after a month or so away from you he realised he actually started to miss you??
-   like sure you text all the time but yoongi builds and maintains relationships from physical interactions and he honestly just missed how you would bite your lip when playing a game on your phone or how you would always close your eyes when chewing your food to make the most of the flavour
-   so like you would of course come to pick him up from the airport and you probably made like a sign with his name on it in case he forgot what you looked like because, let’s be real, he probably had
-   so like when he walks out of the terminal and sees you he kinda just feels so relieved like okay you’re okay and you’re smiling and you’re alive and he can see you every day again and he was just so glad you’re his best friend
-   but like he’d play it really good like “good to see your annoying face lol” and you’d grin and reach up to mess up his hair like “i missed you too yoongi” and you’d turn and start leading the way to the car
-   but like really out of the blue he’d just grab your arm and pull you into a hug
-   let’s just take a second to talk about how amazing yoongi’s hugs would be omgdfh like he’d hold you really close and it would be so comfortable like he would be such a cuddly person and the firmness of his arms around your waist would just be really nice and he’d snuggle his face into your hair and he’d absolutely love the smell and he just missed you a lot more than he’d ever admit and you’d be so shocked but like immediately hug him back like waoh !! this might not happen again !!
-       it’d be over just as suddenly it happened though and he’d look at your feet “yeah I missed you I guess let’s go get food I’m starving” and you’d both be in such a Great Mood ahh
-   Dying your hair together!!!
-   Like I feel like this would be something you guys did often
-   like imagine you’re in family mart or something (family mart totally don’t sell hair dye but lol anyways) and you’re looking at all the different colours
-   he’d put his hand to his chin, pretending to be deep in thought
-   you’re pointing at all the pretty pastel colours
-   “oooo we should totally do this purple colour”
-   “I already look gay enough wearing this stupid pink sweater you made me”
-   you laugh and shove his shoulder gently, to which he reaches over and messes up your newly bleached blonde hair (ready for dyeing) that matched his own blond hair that fell over his forehead
-   you eventually decide on a baby blue colour
-   okay but imagine,, you guys are sitting on the edge of the bathtub at your place and yoongi just wants to open the box and put the stuff all through his hair and istg you had to wrestle him for it back and now you’re lecturing him on the importance of reading the instructions
-   he’d sit impatiently as you followed the instructions ever so slowlyyy
-   “y/n I’ve done this a ton of times before you don’t need to read all that ugh”
-   “okay so,, then you're supposed to shake it??”
-   “uGH”
-       ayay im gonna stop there
-       I just really love the idea of best friend yoongi
-       Actually I just really love the idea of yoongi
-       Actually I just really love yoongi
-       I hope you enjoyed ahah

The 30 Best Restaurants And Bars In Oakland (1) added to Google Docs
The 30 Best Restaurants And Bars In Oakland (1)
Oakland and San Francisco are connected by a small body of water and a bridge. But that’s about all the two Bay Area cities have in common, and longtime residents will tell you Oakland pride runs deep. After all, we gave the world Zendaya, Mark Hamill, and “hyphy.” Just don’t ask us to use the word “hella” for your amusement or refer to the city as “The Brooklyn of the Bay.”
Now that we have that out of the way, we can also tell you that Oakland is an incredible place to eat. The largest city in the East Bay is also one of the most diverse in the country - and that’s reflected in the diversity of its restaurants. If you want to get to know Oakland through its food (and you should), use this guide. It’s our list of restaurants and bars we think are most essential to the city. We wouldn’t send an out-of-towner to a new Oakland spot without sending them to one of these places first. And you shouldn’t either.
Perfect for: Dinner  Krescent Carasso Zachary's Chicago Pizza $ $ $ $ Italian  in  Rockridge $$$$ 5801 College Ave 8.6 /10
We field a lot of questions from people who visit Oakland for the first time. Like, can I swim in Lake Merritt? (Absolutely not.) Do you ghost ride? (Rolls eyes.) Should I try Chicago-style pizza while in town? OK, that’s not a question that comes up, but we have to tell you - a thousand times, yes. While deep dish in Oakland may sound counterintuitive, you’ll want to push those feelings aside or risk missing out on some of the best pizza in the city. This East Bay institution was founded in 1983 and makes Chicago-inspired pies (it’s actually stuffed, not deep dish) with flaky, buttery crust, and a sweet, chunky tomato sauce. Zachary’s has five locations, but we like getting our favorite mushroom and spinach pizza at the original spot on College Ave.
 Krescent Carasso Shan Dong $ $ $ $ Chinese  in  Chinatown Oakland $$$$ 328 10th St #101 8.7 /10
You can find good Chinese food all over Oakland. But if you want great - like 2014-2019 Golden State Warriors great - head to Shan Dong in Chinatown. The big draw is the thick, chewy hand-pulled noodles that are made fresh behind a glassed-in counter at the front of the restaurant. We especially love them in the sesame paste noodles - the Rickey Henderson of Oakland dishes - and the Shan Dong dumplings with chicken and dry-braised green beans should also be at the top of your order. Just prepare to wait outside in a line longer than the DMV.
 Krescent Carasso Champa Garden $ $ $ $ Vietnamese ,  Thai ,  Laotian  in  Ivy Hill $$$$ 2102 8th Ave 8.6 /10
Oakland residents take pride in their city, which is understandable - we’re the home of the oldest bonsai and the children’s amusement park (Fairyland) that inspired Disneyland. Champa Garden is another spot Oaklanders proudly claim. This small restaurant is located on a residential corner in East Oakland’s Ivy Hill and focuses on Laotian, Thai, and Vietnamese specialties. Come with a group and order the Champa Sampler (a name we’d get tattooed on our left rib), which shows off the restaurant’s star dishes - Lao sausages, fried rice ball salad, crispy spring rolls, and lettuce wraps.
 Mary Lagier Nyum Bai $ $ $ $ Cambodian  in  Fruitvale $$$$ 3340 E 12th St Ste 11 8.7 /10
Whether you live in Oakland - or a $350,000 minimalist tiny home parked in the driveway of your friend’s rental apartment in San Francisco - Nyum Bai should be on your personal hit list. This place serves incredible Cambodian dishes like stir-fried rice noodles and pork belly stew in a colorful, welcoming space with pink and blue walls, a ’60s Cambodian rock playlist, and a twinkly-light-covered patio. Don’t be surprised when you finish a meal here and find it hard to leave - or make plans to come back tomorrow.
 Krescent Carasso Aburaya $ $ $ $ Japanese  in  Downtown Oakland $$$$ 362 17th St Not
Rated
Yet
If you make only one good decision today (aside from not texting your ex back), go eat Japanese fried chicken at Aburaya. A second good decision: ordering it with dry seasonings like the umami salt or garlic miso. This counter-service izakaya is one of the busiest places in downtown Oakland for lunch or dinner, and you’ll have to employ some strategy to get a seat. But given how good this chicken is, and that Green Day or the Offspring will be playing from the speakers, you’ll probably walk away from Aburaya composing rock songs about chicken.
Don Hicks III Ramen Shop $ $ $ $ Japanese  in  Rockridge $$$$ 5812 College Ave Not
Rated
Yet
When we want a very California take on ramen, we go to the Ramen Shop in Rockridge - which serves bowls with things like mustard greens, sunchokes, and creamed leeks, and excellent donburi with wild nettles or brussels sprouts. Like most places that are designed like a Scandanavian dry sauna and attract people who probably go home to a dog named Ringo, Ramen Shop isn’t cheap (the bowls of ramen start at $19.50). But you won’t mind - the Ramen Shop is just that good.
 Krescent Carasso Geta Sushi $ $ $ $ Japanese ,  Sushi  in  Piedmont Avenue $$$$ 165 41st St Not
Rated
Yet
Oakland is a casual sushi city, and our favorite spot for it is Geta. All of the rolls are under $9, and the chef’s choice sashimi combo is $20 - a great value considering you get around 10 pieces. Timing is important here: you’ll want to get to Geta by 5pm to secure a spot on their waitlist (it tends to fill up for the night by around 7:30pm), and don’t bring more than three people. There are walk-in closets in Piedmont bigger than this place.
 Krescent Carasso Miss Ollie's $ $ $ $ Caribbean  in  Old Oakland $$$$ 901 Washington St Not
Rated
Yet
This order-at-the-counter Caribbean restaurant is one of the most inviting places in the city. With its bright pink walls, turquoise plates, and family portraits hanging everywhere, Miss Ollie’s feels like an extension of a living room - if that living room also served family-style jerk shrimp, corn fritters, and the best skillet-fried chicken we’ve ever had. Whenever we’re in the mood for friendly faces, plantains, and a rum cocktail, we head straight for Miss Ollie’s.
 Krescent Carasso Burma Superstar $ $ $ $ Burmese  in  Temescal $$$$ 4721 Telegraph Ave 8.5 /10
Burma Superstar originated in the Richmond in San Francisco, but has been blessing Oakland with incredible Burmese dishes - and a life-changing tea leaf salad - since 2009. The spicy, salty, sweet flavors keep us coming back again and again, and enduring the ridiculously long waits (this location doesn’t take reservations).
Krescent Carasso Vientian Cafe $ $ $ $ Vietnamese ,  Thai  in  Allendale $$$$ 3801 Allendale Ave Not
Rated
Yet
Living in the Bay Area means all your money goes to rent, gas, and $15 elevated mocktails made of 50 percent seltzer. When you’re on a budget but you still want an excellent lunch or dinner, head to Vientian Cafe - a Laotian, Thai, and Vietnamese spot in East Oakland. We come here for the flavorful nam kao ($7.95), the fresh papaya salad ($7.95), and the angel wings ($6.95) with a side of sticky rice. You’ll also want to ask for the menu of Lao specials, which includes a tangy fermented sausage ($3 a piece).
Krescent Carasso Enssaro $ $ $ $ Ethiopian  in  Adams Point $$$$ 366 Grand Ave Not
Rated
Yet
Enssaro is deservedly one of the most popular restaurants in Adams Point - and all of Oakland for that matter. This family-run spot serves some of the best Ethiopian food in the city - like perfectly sautéed or simmered chicken, lamb, and lentils plated over spongy injera bread. Get the meat or vegetable platters, so you can mix and match dishes, trying all the different spices and textures that make Ethiopian food so incredible. Everything at this casual restaurant is meant to be shared, which is why you’ll always see tables of big groups and, at dinner, a line out the door.
Krescent Carasso Soba Ichi $ $ $ $ Japanese  in  West Oakland $$$$ 2311 Magnolia St Not
Rated
Yet
This Japanese restaurant is more peaceful than a casual picnic at Mountain View Cemetery (yes, that’s a thing, and the city view from there is beautiful). The minimalist space is covered with light wood, and a large glass window lets you look inside the room where buckwheat noodles - Soba Ichi’s specialty - are kneaded, rolled, and cut each morning. This spot is one of the only places in the country that makes soba by hand, and we’re lucky they do so here in West Oakland. The noodles are perfectly soft and chewy, and are served hot in a delicious dashi soup, or cold on a plate with a small cup of dipping broth. When you’re done, your server will pour hot buckwheat water into it for you to drink. If this wasn’t already clear: you should be making a reservation immediately.
 Kingston 11 $ $ $ $ Jamaican  in  Northgate-Waverly $$$$ 2270 Telegraph Ave Not
Rated
Yet
When you need to merge Friend Group One with Friend Group Two, remember Kingston 11 - an Uptown Oakland Jamaican restaurant that’s ideal for groups. DJs, live music, and a dedicated rum bar create an energetic backdrop for slow-cooked jerk chicken, excellent oxtail stew, and saltfish fritters. Though we can’t guarantee all your friends will get along, we can guarantee you will leave here full and happy.
Krescent Carasso Farmhouse Kitchen $$$$ 336 Water St
Oaklanders love a good party: block parties, bike parties, and First Fridays - our monthly excuse to drink heavily in Uptown Oakland for the sake of local art. When you want the party experience, but in restaurant form, head to Farmhouse Kitchen in Jack London. Yes, it’s one of the city’s more recent additions, and, yes, the original is in San Francisco - but the Thai food is that delicious, and no one wants to sit in 20 hours of bumper-to-bumper traffic crossing the Bay Bridge anyway. At Farmhouse Kitchen, servers frequently sing the Happy Birthday song while banging loudly on gongs and drums, cocktails look like tropical desserts, and plates of rice, curries, and noodles are garnished with flowers and served on banana leaves. This is the colorful dinner party you want.
Krescent Carasso Lucky Three Seven $ $ $ $ Filipino  in  Patten $$$$ 2868 Fruitvale Ave Not
Rated
Yet
We always feel like we’re hanging out at home with our aunts and uncles and our fifth cousin’s cousin whenever we go to Lucky Three Seven. This casual Filipino takeout spot on Fruitvale is a family-run operation, which means friendly service and classic adobo, pork and chicken tocino served with a fried egg over rice, garlic-y chicken wings, and the longest lumpia we’ve ever seen. Walk up to the outside window to order (it’s cash-only), and grab a stool at the bar. All dishes are made to-go, but you should absolutely stay awhile.
 Krescent Carasso Wood Tavern $ $ $ $ American  in  Rockridge $$$$ 6317 College Ave 8.8 /10
Some nights, we just want to pretend like we’re a permanent resident of the Claremont Hotel. And that’s when we go to Wood Tavern. Every dish at this upscale American restaurant feels like it was made with more care than a miniature replica of the Tribune Tower. You’ll want the cheese board, the charcuterie, the pappardelle, the juicy pan-roasted chicken, and the coffee pot de crème for dessert. Despite the fancy food, this place feels more like a casual bistro, or a cozy ski lodge - but one with perfect service.
PERFECT FOr: BREAKFAST, BRUNCH, & LUNCh  Krescent Carasso Lois the Pie Queen $ $ $ $ Southern  in  Santa Fe $$$$ 851 60th St Not
Rated
Yet
Lois The Pie Queen was a real person, and now it’s also a true Oakland classic. This family-owned restaurant in North Oakland is an essential gathering spot of the East Bay community, and has been serving classic Southern food at its current location since the ’70s. The restaurant is especially packed on weekends, with longtime residents eating chicken and waffles, biscuits, pancakes, pies, and the Reggie Jackson special (a hearty meal of two fried pork chops and two eggs, and named after the legendary Oakland A’s player). Lois’s lemon icebox pie is also near-mythical, and probably partly why there’s an impressive collection of local celebrity photos on the wall - like Danny Glover, Damian Lillard, and Boots Riley. Head’s up, it’s cash-only.
 C+N Creative Beauty's Bagel Shop $ $ $ $ Bagels  in  Temescal $$$$ 3838 Telegraph Ave Not
Rated
Yet
Anyone who says the Bay Area doesn’t have good bagels has never been to Beauty’s. This Temescal spot specializes in wood-fired, Montreal-style bagels that are crispy, chewy, and come with your choice of spreads like chopped liver and hummus. Beauty’s is also walking distance from the MacArthur BART Station, so you can meet your friend here for an everything bagel with lox cream cheese before doing Temescal Alley-type things up the street, like scoring a 100-page book on the medicinal properties of fermented air plants.
 Krescent Carasso Bakesale Betty $ $ $ $ American ,  Cafe/Bakery  in  Temescal $$$$ 5098 Telegraph Ave 8.5 /10
Oakland has more fried chicken sandwiches than life-sized elephant statues. (If you run into one on the street, his name is Stomper, and he’s the Oakland Athletics mascot.) But the best fried chicken sandwich in the city - if not the world - is at Bakesale Betty’s. The buttermilk chicken is crispy, the jalapeño coleslaw is tangy and slightly spicy, and overall, this sandwich will change your life - you’ll just have to work for it. The line sometimes stretches down the block, but it moves fast, and if you get there before they open at 11am, you’ll be ensured first pick of their homemade cookies and a seat at the ironing board tables outside.
 Krescent Carasso Reem's California $ $ $ $ Cafe/Bakery  in  Fruitvale $$$$ 3301 E 12th St #133 Not
Rated
Yet
There are only a few reasons we get out of bed early on weekends. One is to move our car on street sweeping days. Another is to have breakfast at Reem’s. This casual counter-service Arab bakery and restaurant serves an incredible shakshuka (on Saturdays and Sundays only), pastries, and coffee, in a bright, sun-filled space we’d hang out in all day. They also have excellent chicken wraps, oven-baked flatbreads, and hummus. Like Nyum Bai, Reem’s is right off the Fruitvale BART Station, so you have no excuse not to make it here.
Krescent Carasso Cosecha $ $ $ $ Mexican  in  Old Oakland $$$$ 907 Washington St Not
Rated
Yet
Old Oakland was the city’s original downtown before the 1906 earthquake forced businesses out of the area. The historic neighborhood has slowly made a comeback and is now home to cool boutiques, well-preserved Victorians, and Swan’s Market - a former marketplace that’s now one of the city’s best food halls. Our favorite reason to go Swan’s is for the tacos at Cosecha, served on homemade tortillas and garnished with cilantro and jalapeño. You may slip into a mild panic when trying to find a seat in the busy communal dining area, but know that tables always free up.
Aubrie Pick Hopscotch $ $ $ $ American ,  Japanese ,  Diner  in  Uptown $$$$ 1915 San Pablo Ave Not
Rated
Yet
You drank too many mezcal margaritas last night in Uptown Oakland, and now you’re hungover - and wondering why your friend has so many grainy iPhone videos of you rapping along to “Blow the Whistle.” Time to go to Hopscotch. This upscale diner does Japanese-inspired takes on classic American dishes - soba biscuits, tonkatsu sandwiches, and braised pork belly benedict with jidori eggs. Brunch here won’t erase those videos of you screaming Too Short’s favorite word, but it will make you feel a lot better.
 Krescent Carasso TrueBurger $ $ $ $ American  in  Temescal $$$$ 4101 Broadway 8.5 /10
California loves In-N-Out. But if you’ve lived in Oakland long enough, you know another burger joint commands more respect: TrueBurger. This fast-food style spot has mastered three simple things: burgers, fries, and shakes. You don’t come here for herbed goat cheese or sous-vide egg toppings. You come here for juicy grilled patties with tomato, lettuce, and garlic mayo on slightly-toasted egg buns, for thin fries that are perfectly crispy, and for not-too-thick milkshakes that evoke more joy than the Bay views from Grizzly Peak. There are two TrueBurger locations, but we like the newer, bigger one on Broadway.
 Brown Sugar Kitchen $ $ $ $ Southern  in  Uptown $$$$ 2295 Broadway Not
Rated
Yet
Brown Sugar Kitchen is open for lunch and dinner, but our favorite meal at this Southern restaurant in Uptown Oakland is weekend brunch - especially when we want to spend quality time with people (and foods) that we like. Everyone else in this place seems to have the same idea - and a craving for flaky biscuits, buttermilk fried chicken, and incredibly light cornmeal waffles - so prepare for crowds and a wait. Service tends to move at a slower pace at Brown Sugar Kitchen, but when you’re having mimosas and beignets in this light-filled space, you won’t want to rush.
 Krescent Carasso Clove & Hoof $ $ $ $ American ,  Sandwiches  in  Temescal $$$$ 4001 Broadway Not
Rated
Yet
At this butcher shop and restaurant, slabs of raw, marbled beef, pork, lamb, and charcuterie are presented behind shiny glass cases like they’re 50-year-old bottles of single malt scotch - in other words, this counter-service place takes their meat seriously. The burger comes with two thick patties, the fried chicken is glazed with a caramelized fish sauce, the cheesesteaks are extra cheesy - and everything is big (like, Pacific Ocean big). So get your nap bed ready. Nothing productive ever happens after lunch or dinner here.
PERFECT FOR: LATE-NIGHT EATS  Tacos Mi Rancho $ $ $ $ Mexican  in  Merritt $$$$ 1434 1st Ave Not
Rated
Yet
Tacos Mi Rancho is better known as “the taco truck by Lake Merritt” or “the taco truck to hit up when hungry at midnight.” It also serves some of the best Mexican food in the city. No matter what time or what state you’re in, rolling up to this permanently parked, cash-only spot is an absolute must - especially if you’re craving al pastor tacos or a 15-inch super burrito late at night (they’re open until 2:30am or 3am nightly). And don’t forget the red or green sauce - they’re on another level.
 Dan Sung Sa $ $ $ $ Korean  in  Northgate-Waverly $$$$ 2775 Telegraph Ave 8.0 /10
This Korean pub is open until 2am, which is a rare thing in a city where most restaurants shut down by midnight. While you could go home after a few drinks and warm up your two-day-old half of a burrito before passing out, you should go to Dan Sung Sa instead. Affectionately called Porno Bar or Porno Palace (raunchy magazine spreads used to cover the bathroom walls), Dan Sung Sa serves dishes like kimchi fried rice and BBQ galbi in a dark, energetic space that will make you want to keep eating, drinking, and talking well into the evening. This is where you come to watch late-night Oakland unfold.
PERFECT FOR: COFFEE, PASTRIES, & ICE CREAM  Krescent Carasso Fentons Creamery $ $ $ $ American ,  Ice Cream  in  Piedmont Avenue $$$$ 4226 Piedmont Ave Not
Rated
Yet
If you grew up in Oakland, you’ve celebrated many birthdays at Fentons Creamery. If you didn’t, you probably know the ’50s-inspired ice cream parlor from Pixar’s Up. Either way, a visit to this century-old spot is an important experience - even if the crowds here can rival those on a morning commute on BART, and the screaming kids can make it feel like an echo chamber. You’re dealing with all of that for the big banana splits, sundaes, and shakes - along with good burgers, onion rings, and fries, if your sweet tooth has limits. We should note that parking in their small lot is near-impossible, so park elsewhere in the neighborhood.
 Krescent Carasso Red Bay Coffee $ $ $ $ Cafe/Bakery  in  Fruitvale $$$$ 3098 E 10th St
Oakland drinks coffee like water. And while there are so many spots serving quadruple-shot cappuccinos in stark, minimalist spaces, we wish more were like Red Bay Coffee. It’s just as much a hangout for local residents as it is a place to get a very good iced coffee, charcoal latte, and pastries. Depending on the day, you can pop in to the public roastery in Fruitvale for a movie screening or a live performance, or to check out a pop-up shop. If you’re looking to get work done or catch up with a friend, the large, beautiful warehouse also has lots of sunlight, and plenty of chairs and benches.
PERFECT FOR: Drinking good cocktails  Marcus Edwards Photography Starline Social Club $ $ $ $ American ,  Bar  in  Uptown $$$$ 645 W Grand Ave Not
Rated
Yet
Starline Social Club is a bar, a restaurant, a concert venue (Solange once performed here), and a place to dance to everything from R&B to pop to EDM, depending on the night. It’s also the spot where everyone knows everyone - where you learn that Oakland is big, but can feel very small. There are so many ways to use Starline: you could stop in for a really good cocktail and corn dogs in the big, airy bar during Happy Hour, or work up a sticky dance sweat in their ballroom upstairs. Starline is whatever you want it to be, and more importantly, it’s still one of the most culturally-diverse places in the city.
