Yu Yu Hakusho (Reviewing 25 years later)
This anime is like a forgotten gem. It doesn’t come to mind as #1 first but when mentioned everyone goes oh yea that was like one of the best anime’s of all time. I feel like most anime’s don’t have the same level of action, adventure, comedy, drama, and growth that this show offered. Whether you watch it as a kid for action & childish humor or as an adult for the deeper drama, life lessons and adult humor, it’s great across generations and across time whether you watched it as a kid in the 90s/00s or now in 2021.
Let me simplify it because there’s so much in-depth analysis I could go into.
Ratings per Arc/Saga:
Spirit Detective - 8/10
Dark Tournament - 10/10
Chapter Black - 8/10
Three Kings - 7/10
Deeper Analysis:
Spirit Detective - Honestly this arc had amazing parts to it, introducing the main characters, slowly improving enemies, and setting up for the Dark Tournament. I love the intro and how Yusuke has to undergo his ordeal showing his relationship with Kuwabara, Keiko, his mother, Boton, Koenma and everyone else around him. We’re introduced to a brat who doesn’t really belong but slowly finds his place and purpose starting here as Spirit Detective. I loved the deeper stories with introducing Hiei and Kurama. The introduction of Genkai was amazing, it showed there’s different aspects of growing and trying to master spirit energy. I only wish that section was a bit longer, maybe just 2-3 episodes of more unique competitors. The Spirit Beasts section is what made it a tad lackluster. This is their first real mission to spirit world and the abilities of the 4 spirit beasts just felt somewhat limited to me. Especially the fire-tiger beast, his tenacity just became annoying at some point. This is what dropped the Spirit Detective Saga to an 8 for me or else I would’ve made it a 9. The final part is amazing, it brings some backstory to Hiei by introducing her sister and most importantly the Toguro brothers leading to the Dark Tournament.
All together, it’s probably one of the best intro sagas to any anime I’ve seen at least. There’s simplicity but also complexity at the same time depending on how deep you look into it. They didn’t just half ass the action like many of my other favorite action-packed anime (DBZ, Fairy Tail). There’s a lot of mystery, dark moments, and strategy for a supposed kids cartoon for the haters out there.
Dark Tournament - This has to be the best saga in any ever because of the different strategies, emotions, growth, and somehow comedy still added in. I can’t help but re-watch this saga again and again every few years. We start with a mystery question: how much did the main characters grow in strength, abilities, and strategies? Now as a teen then now adult, the masked fighter is obviously Genkai because of the height, outfit and abilities, but as a kid, she was such a mystery for me haha. Anyways we go into the tournament and the committee seems hell bent on pitting everything against Yusuke & friends. I like that though Yusuke’s team comes out on top at the end of each fight, they do lose some individual matches for multiple different reasons. Instead of mindless matches purely on the fighting, we actually learn some backstory about many enemies and our main characters. It didn’t take long either; there wasn’t a ridiculous amount of episodes spent per backstory like Naruto or Fairy Tail. Genkai showed even more wisdom but also understanding of humanity as she knows her time is ending so she passes on her power abilities and most importantly wisdom to her favorite dim-wit. And throughout the story, we get to know more about Genkai and Toguro’s backstory and how power, morals and unfortunate events can change one’s future. The part that most people forget is the final episodes of the Dark Tournament: Toguro has been and wants to continue punishing himself. He actually does care for Genkai and Yusuke. He knows Yusuke has greater potential to grow into something great but needs proper and sometimes drastic measures and guidance to do so.
This saga had an amazing start, several related series of actions in the middle and a proper explanation at the end for many questions we had. On top of all that we’re left clues to the next arc, subtle clues you don’t realize until the next arc comes around. Episode 66, was shocking, Koenma actually granted Yusuke’s wish for his mentor and friend to be revived to live until the end of her life in peace as much as possible.
Chapter Black - This saga was great. You really don’t know what it is until it’s fully explained. We all know there were stronger demons deeper in spirit world. But something deeper darker is coming and it’s crazy because after 66 episodes we realized we never wondered about a previous Spirit Detective. What happened to that one? Now we get a trio of test spiritually aware humans just to test Yusuke & Kuwabara, but the really interesting part is when Sensui and his team is brought in. A few abilities were obvious but others were so mysterious with a constant ominous presence and heartbeat music looming over. What is each unique opponent’s abilities and what is Sensui’s background and end goal? His multiple personalities each containing yet even more unique abilities with his desire for an open tunnel into the depths of Spirit World for A/S class demons is insane. It seems impossible for Yusuke to win here even with Kuwabara’s sacrifice again. But wow what a reveal that he does have a secret demon king lineage in his blood. I both love and hate this at the same time. It feels like a cop-out but also explains everything at the same time. It’s like Super Saiyan in DBZ but different because at least here it took until the 3rd Saga and several arcs to reveal it. I guess in the overall scheme of things it’s like having Dragonball before Dragonball Z. Anyways the ending is amazing as we see them fight and find out just why Sensui wanted this all along as well as his gay partner’s obsession over him.
This was a great saga with a truly ominous back story and I love it. The only reason I keep it rated at 8/10 is unfortunately it happens right after the best saga ever in the Dark Tournament. At this point, power scaling and the use of demon king lineage in Yusuke just unfortunately puts the rating here. And we already know what the next saga is about for sure. There’s nothing left to really explore.
Three Kings - Here we go, the finale of Yu Yu Hakusho. We know Yusuke is of demon king lineage so of course he’s going to go train in Demon World. Hiei and Kurama obviously would follow along. Now with everything being obvious, why is it still interesting? Somehow the writers/producers of Yu Yu Hakusho find a way to bring even more back story in appropriate timing without it becoming filler. Learning about the deep ancient history of Raizen vs Yomi vs Mukuro shows how even as demons they have a human aspect: Raizen who ended up loving a human, Yomi who had a child and history with Kurama, and Mukuro with her tragic backstory that led to an odd relationship with Hiei. The ending is great with yet another tournament. As a kid, I wished they had a full tournament arc, but decades later I realized how much sense it makes that they didn’t show us the whole tournament, just key battles and how no one in our main crew won. Yusuke, Kurama and Hiei still has much to learn and grow. Yomi and Mukuro’s time has passed. A new brighter future awaits the demon world. Yusuke finally gets his happy ending with Keiko.
This final saga unfortunately because of its timing and closure gets a rating of 7/10. For an ending it’s great and I’m not sure how to improve it. That’s why I’m not a producer/writer haha. But it is definitely amazing and I appreciate it. Yusuke went from a kid/teen to a young adult. The story we came to know and love is over and he did NOT end up obsessed like Toguro. He didn’t choose the demon life. He also didn’t choose a psychic path like Genkai. He chose his own path with his friends in the human world continuing as spirit detective but living as close to a normal life as possible. I love this ending, The ending and whole narrative makes me give this show a 10/10. Yes I know they released 2 specials in 2018 but why not that’s a small treat for us fans. They can do specials maybe every decade or so. I don’t actually want them to do a new continued series like Dragonball Super. Let the original show be what it is and be remembered in history as one of the most unique shows with catchy theme songs. Also the Eng dub is actually good haha. Listen carefully for the adult humor hidden in the show if you’re re-watching it. You likely didn’t understand every NSFW joke as a kid. I know I didn’t haha.

Storm the World with Reckless Abandon
Snippet #16
District 4 was a close-knit, viciously friendly place. They share the mindset of you’re whether with them or against them, sharks of the sea who follow the scent of spilt blood, especially if it’s theirs. They bare their teeth into grins and laugh with bubbly enthusiasm to mask the sharp canines ready to bite. They can be gentle, kind. But they’re a picky bunch, and don’t have much thought for outsiders.
There’s a reason they’re one of the Career districts. Their whole livelihood depends on being fearless, to be able to jump into the water and take on whatever creatures they face. To be hunters, patient with their nets and waiting for the right time to strike with their fishhooks.
Thrill seekers, every last one of them. If it weren’t for the fact the world around them was contaminated and limited, they’d eagerly explore more dangerous waters, discover another world beyond the shallow reefs.
Brea has been told her entire life she’s far too practical for any of that nonsense. Her father would run a hand through her hair and affectionately tease her for her strict nature. Her refusal to go in the water other than to fish had kids deeming her as boring. She gets her chores done on time, weaves out blankets with fabric traded from District 8, and repeats the day like clockwork.
Being chosen for the Hunger Games was a death sentence for a girl like her.
She wasn’t blind or stupid, she knew her chances were slim to none. And even if she did survive, she wasn’t sure she would want to in the end. To have that much blood coat her hands and never be able to scrub them off was a concept she didn’t want to understand.
In that train leading to her death, the older victor Mags had pulled her aside with deadly serious eyes, and slowly enunciated four words with absolute care, determined to give this one advice to her among the many she already had given through gestures and written word.
“Ally with the outsider.”
Personally, Brea thought the older woman was completely unreasonable to ask that of her. Because it was never going to happen.
The outsider – Ichigo she recalled, the name strange and foreign on the tongue – was the very definition of insane.
He didn’t understand the silent rules everyone followed, spoke out when it could get him killed, and treated killers like they were merely human. He moved too quietly and was wilder than anyone she’s ever met. As strange as he was, he fit right in with the Victors he hung around more with than with his fellow tributes. Not that it was encouraged for the tributes to interact or get close to one another, but it sometimes couldn’t be helped when training together.
But it didn’t seem to matter either way. The orange haired enigma acted untouchable to his surroundings and even if Brea did take Mag’s advice into consideration, it would mean having to watch her own back even more than she was now. The strong belonged with the strong, and Brea didn’t belong in that category. It would mean putting herself in the line of fire.
No matter how kind and gentle the old woman Mags looked, how dazzling and shallow Finnick Odair acted, they wouldn’t be standing here today if they didn’t have a streak of ruthlessness in them. Brea heard the stories, seen the clips. Living in a district so aware of how food chains didn’t just extend to the food they ate, Brea was rightfully wary of those who proved to be more than how they appeared. Blending in or standing out were methods of a predator, or a very clever prey capable of surviving.
Either was a dangerous combination and the Capital was pack full of such people.
She could see it in the other Careers who smirked in her direction with arrogant disdain. See it in all the other tributes whose eyes glinted with determination or desperation to live.
Human beings hunting down human beings in this game that Ichigo seemingly refused to play in. Like he was better than them.
That was what truly made him infuriating. He was a predator who didn’t bother to hunt, content in watching the rest of them struggle and not lifting a damn finger to take advantage of it. Brea knew it was irrational. She knew Ichigo as an ally would be a boon, but in some ways, he was even worse than the Careers. His above-all attitude was implied by his inaction and refusal to train.
It made her grit her teeth, resentment building by the day as he sat by and did nothing.
All of that, however, changed on the second day.
It was the District 2 Career who instigated it. The boy, Lance if Brea remembered correctly. He had been casually hefting the spear at the weapon’s section of the training room with Panthea, the blonde tribute of his own district, when his gaze was suddenly resting on the unmoving, sitting form of the outsider like a shark smelling blood in the water.
Hair at the back of Brea’s neck stood up as Lance swaggered towards Ichigo with Panthea gleefully grinning next to him. The District 1 tributes, who seemed to have formed an alliance with them to the surprise of no one since day one, trailed behind with a caution that Brea found to be rare in Careers. Thad and Ace weren’t such terrible people as Brea expected them to be. A lot quieter than the blond pair, that’s for certain. Still, the way they moved screamed dangerous as their footsteps were quiet and their countenance confident.
She didn’t know what to make of them yet. Their true colors would be revealed in the games though, Brea had no doubts about that.
The whole room was suddenly quiet as all the tributes started to notice the impending drama that was about to occur. Brea would bet her District’s entire food storage that the sponsors behind the walls were watching as well, holding their breaths and waiting to see what would happen.
Ichigo, who seemed absolutely oblivious to all of this, remained relaxed and sitting with his eyes closed. If it weren’t for the deep breaths the cavity of his chest were taking, Brea would be tempted to think he was peaceful as death. He remained so even as Lance loomed over him, grinning bloodthirstily.
“Hey, Outsider. Having a good nap?”
Ichigo opened one eye by a fraction, the color gold underneath the lighting. Taking in the sight of the Career, Ichigo closed it once more in a dismissing gesture that spoke volumes of what he thought of his fellow competitor.
“I was until you showed up brat.”
Everyone stared.
Brea didn’t know whether to gape or laugh in shock.
Lance stood motionless for a full second before swinging the spear he was still incidentally holding up to Ichigo’s neck, his movement quick as a viper and face red with rage. Everyone immediately tensed, the atmosphere turning strained to the point of suffocation.
“What did you call me?” Lance spat out, looking enraged and incredulous at the same time. Like he never imagined someone would be stupid enough to insult him while he was holding a weapon.
Like the maniac he clearly was, the outsider didn’t even flinch as he slowly reopened both eyes. He looked unimpressed.
“I called you what you are.” Ichigo shrugged, unconcerned how the movement jolted the blade so it would scrape against his neck. “If you’ve got a problem with it, then stop acting like one. Brat.”
He’s crazy, Brea thought somewhat deliriously. Or he has a death wish.
Lance seemed to think along the same lines, his grip on the spear so tight to the point one could see his knuckles turning pale.
“Do you want to die? Is that it? Cause I can make that happen for you.” He pressed the blade harder, just barely not breaking the skin. “It would be a mercy for someone as crazy as you.”
At that, the outsider’s inhumanely golden eyes opened fully, wide and unsettling as they pierced through the boy with a sharpness even more threatening than the blade on his neck. A feral grin was overtaking his features, for once not looking apathetic or what Brea now realized was boredom. He looked every bit as insane as Brea and everyone suspected him to be, untamed and animalistic with how sharp his canines suddenly looked.
“You can’t cut me. You’re afraid.” Ichigo said with utter certainty. His accusing stare dared Lance to deny it. “When you attack, you’re thinking “I’m afraid to cut them.” When you dodge, you think, “I’m afraid to get cut.”” Ichigo reached out a hand and tapped the blade pointedly. “There’s nothing but fear in your blade. And because of that, you can’t beat me. I called you brat because your resolve is weak.”
Without hesitation, Ichigo pushed the blade away from his neck with an ease that spoke of how little he thought of the boy, yes, boy in front of him. He stood up, his eyes never leaving Lance’s frozen figure. At that moment, the outsider looked so much older than he actually was. Never has he looked so separate, so much of an outsider than in this very instance.
In the dead silence, Ichigo took his leave, walking out of the room with his head held high and looking like a Victor already.
It was official. No way was Brea allying with a crazy who practically painted himself as a target after this stunt.

Paddle Board Storage Tips
10 Inflatable SUP Safety Tips
Proper SUP inflatable storage will increase the longevity of your paddle board. It can also save you time when you plan to leave. By following a few simple guidelines you will avoid any inconvenience caused by unsuitable storage while learning how to improve and therefore make your SUPing experience more enjoyable. Start your paddling next day or all season with a board that is new, clean and ready to hit water day after day and year after year. Save time and energy by keeping your board in appropriate conditions for iSUP storage for long and short periods. It’s super easy! It’s super easy! Only by following the following storage measure.
10 Inflatable SUP Storage Tips: Long- and Short-term
Where do you place the SUP?
What is the right way to store your paddle board? Ok, it depends on a variety of factors. Due to the variety of board materials and construction, a wide range of recommendations can be found on the internet. This post, however, only focuses on the storage guidelines for inflatable paddle boards. Check out our tips for the best results when storing your desk. Regardless of whether this is for short or long-term storage, you should still seek to meet those requirements.
3 Factors that affect the life of your inflatable paddleboard
1. Bacteria, Dirt, Grime, SALT
Abrasive elements such as gravel, salt and sand will cause your SUP to get undue wear and tear. Using sturdy handles or a secure shoulder strap to still hold your SUP. The parking lot or even sand should not be dragged when used. The built up grit on your board can also damage your valve, or your board’s PVC material is made of when it is rolled and stored. When you leave your board wet, mildew and bacteria will create unpleasant smells and slowly eat away.
2. Damage to the Sun
Sunny days are always the nicest days for your SUP, but your inflatable paddle board should not be kept in direct sunlight in the long term. Direct sunlight can over time decay the colours of your SUP and even damage the PVC material itself.
3. Time Time
The older the board is, the more it’s vulnerable to wear and tear. Ultimately every inflatable has to be replaced, but do not worry, you will be able to use your board for years at peak performance with proper care and storage.
10 tips for long-term safe storage of SUPs
1. Rinse your SUP before storing it.
Whenever you use your SUP, you want to clean it afterwards with freshwater. It ‘s important to get used to rinsing the board after through use, as it can take longer to extract dirt and grain. This also stops you from washing your monitor before you leave next time. SUP is an outdoor activity, and you can anticipate a certain amount of mud, but with a good spray, you can keep your paddle board on the long term. Pay careful attention to your valve region in order to keep it clean and operate smoothly.
Pay care when your board is rinsed off to your SUP pump, good boxes and d-rings.
2. Do not use abrasive soap. Use abrasive soap.
You don’t have to use soap each time, a rinse and towel go a long way. It doesn’t hurt to clean your board every now and then with soap. If you plan to use soap, review the instructions of your supplier to ensure the graphics stay light. Search for anything without harsh chemicals if it is suggested. Marine supply shops typically have different choices with iSUPs or non-abrasive Castile soap. If you really don’t know how much soap you are using, just test it on a small section of the SUP and then check your results.
3. Don’t overdo it. Don’t overdo it.
So clean it more thoroughly, wear a rag or a very soft bristle so remove dirt and debris. Remember not to be too rough when attempting to erase traces or stains while cleaning your surface. SUP is an outdoor activity and the board must contend with other facets of the climate that will fade with time. It’s fine to have a clean plate, but it’s best to prevent abrasion.
4. AFTER you rinse and BEFORE store your inflatable paddle board.
Make sure your board is dry before storing it. Be sure that it remains dry wherever it is kept – not partially dry, not just sunny days, but always dry. Although inflatable SUPs are durable and made for water, damage can be done over time , leaving them wet or in a damp position. It is not that a SUP will be useless after it has been poorly handled, but you will have to spend some time purifying it before you leave. More importantly, the improper storage of your board will lead to a long-term deterioration.
Take a towel after rinsing and ensure that your paddle board is fully dry before putting it in your SUP bag.
5. Don’t put your inflatable SUP in the light.
Just like keeping your board dry, direct sunlight won’t damage your board instantaneously, but storing your equipment under direct sunlight repeatedly leads to a long-term deterioration and reduces board life. UV radiation, when exposed repeatedly day after day, is harsh and especially harmful to PVC. If the board is left in the sun, make sure it is sometimes used or dry on the water after a fun day.
6. Hold your inflatable SUP in the right range of temperature.
It is not so significant as the main factors 1. Just keep your board dry and 2. Keep it out of the sun, but SUPers often ask about climate control. It is advised to use anywhere between 40-110 degrees Fahrenheit (5-40 degrees Celsius). Again, inflatable SUPs are robust, but extreme conditions are not ideal for any sports equipment and this also applies to your paddle board. Stop freezing cold temperatures or baking dry.
7. You can store the SUP deflated or inflated, depending on the location.
Another thing to think about when selecting inflatable SUP storage is whether you should store it inflated or deflated. Anyway is fine so long as it is clean , dry, and within the right range of temperature. Inflatables are packed into a SUP backpack or bag to carry around anywhere – including in a closet or on a shelf in your apartment. That said, if you have space, it can be easier to store your flooded board on the water regularly.
Even if your home doesn’t have plenty of room for inflatable SUP storage, an iSUP can be bundled into a roller backpack that suits anywhere from your trunk to your closet shelf.
8. It’s all right to place your SUP inflated.
Many paddlers are wondering; is it okay to leave a paddleboard inflatable? Or how long will I leave a SUP inflatable? So long as the direct sun is out, you can keep your iSUP permanently inflated. There are a couple of things to consider. Stop the urge to stack items or put heavy goods on them. Over time it may create a divot or effect on your board’s rocker to store heavy items. Furthermore, if you store your board inflated for a long time, just in case your storage area gets too warm, you can release a few PSIs. It helps prevent any damage to the airboard below the target PSI from increasing.
9. Hold your deflated SUP flat.
It’s a smart idea to use your bag to defend against abrasion while storing your board deflated. Make sure it’s clean , dry and rolling or pliable. Save your board in the backpack or bag, so it is placed on its side instead of standing upright or at the edges of the board where there could be pressure points. Even though the board would have plumps at the beginning of the season if it is packed, they will go away once the board is inflated again.
10. 10. Remove your wings. Remove your wings.
With the 2 + 1 Removable Fast Lock Fin Collection from Thurso Surf, there is no need to let your fins get hurt. The tool-free Fast Lock design helps SUPers to instal and remove fins quickly and easily with zero hassle in seconds. You don’t have to risk damaging your board or fins in this way. Rolling your board for storage with your fins could cause damage. In fact, removing your fins before you rinse your board allows you to clean your fine box thoroughly.
Remove your fins until you save your board and hold it in good condition.
Short-term storage for SUP
Our favourite way to store inflatable paddle boards is to get out of the water as soon as possible. It is safe to follow the same rules for long-term storage when storing your board for just one or two paddles in between. Sprinkle it quickly so that it is clean , dry and placed out of direct sunlight somewhere. It takes little effort and the more you take care of your equipment, the longer it will last. Follow the above guidelines and find a specific place for long-term and short-term storage. Fortunately, because inflatables take up little space, you don’t need a special garage or shed for it. As long as your board is stored properly, it is easy to maintain good SUP care and maintenance and get out frequently.
Get out! Get out there!
Finally, only a bit of time is required to ensure your inflatable SUP storage is ready for you to return to the water faster and prevent any unexpected problems if you decide to get out.

SEVEN DEADLY SINS Sin 1: Lust 1. Who was the last person you checked out? Did they check you out too? It’s been a looooooong time, honestly.  2. Who was the last person you desired, but they didn’t feel the same? Ty. 3. Ever cheated on a significant other? If so, have you learned from it? No. 4. Do you watch porn? No, not my thing.
5. Do you masturbate? No.
6. Best physical features on your preferred sex? Eyes, smile, hair, jaw line, arms. A nice stomach is nice, too. 7. Who are some celebrities that you think are totally hot? Alexander Skarsgard. 8. Did you ever lust after a best friend’s significant other? How did it turn out? No. 9. When was the last time you had sex? I’m a virgin.  10. Ever pursued someone, even though they were taken? No. Sin 2: Gluttony 1. When did you last eat at a restaurant? What restaurant was it? IHOP a couple weeks ago with my mom after doing some Christmas shopping. 2. When did you last have fast food? Where did you get it? For breakfast on Christmas day we had breakfast sandwiches from Jack in the Box. 3. What was the biggest meal you had all day? Nothing so far today, it’s only 1:54AM.  4. Do you have too many clothes? How often do you go shopping? Yes. I need to go through and get rid of stuff. It’s something I need to do soon. 5. What’s something you have a LOT of? Clothes and giraffe stuffed animals. 6. Do you eat a lot? Not really. I should be eating a lot more. 7. What was the last thing you splurged (spent a lot of money) on? Christmas presents. I always get a little too carried away for Christmas, but I love spoiling my family when I can. 8. What do you spend most of your money on (besides bills and anything necessary like that)? Clothes and coffee. 9. Last time you ate candy? What was it? I don’t remember. I haven’t had candy in such a long time. 10. Last thing you ate too much of? I’ve had Wingstop and pizza from my favorite pizza place a lot lately, but I love it. Sin 3: Greed 1. Do you share things? How often? Yes. I don’t know how often? I share what I can, when I can. 2. Someone asks you for a piece of your cookie. You break it in half, but the pieces aren’t equal. Who gets the bigger piece? I always give the other person more of whatever it is we’re splitting. 3. When you see change on the ground, do you pick it up? Rarely. 4. How often do you lend money to people? I don’t get asked often. More often I treat my family to things when I can, but if they ever needed to borrow money and I was able to lend it, then I certainly would.  5. Do you loooove money? Unfortunately, it’s necessary and I’d be lying if I said I wish I didn’t have a little more of it.  6. If someone offers to pay for you, do you decline or readily accept? If it’s my parents or brother, I’ll accept. I feel comfortable enough to, and I pay for them sometimes as well. If it’s someone else, I’ll decline unless they’re really persistent about it, but I’ll treat them the next time. 7. Which of your friends is the wealthiest? I don’t have any friends. 8. Would you take a high-paying job that you didn’t really like just for the money and benefits? Not if I was just absolutely miserable.  9. Ever stole from anyone? What about stole from a store? What happened? Only when I was a kid. I thought the candy in the big candy bins was free. :X 10. Do you ever have enough money? My family and I have a roof over our head, food to eat, clothes to wear, bills are paid, and we have nice things. Things definitely get stressful, though. Some months tend to be harder than others, financially. I, personally, would like to have more of it, but I’m able to have the necessities.  Sin 4: Sloth 1. Last thing you procrastinated on? Life. 2. When you’re at a strip mall and the next store you want to go to is at the other side, do you drive over there instead of take a short walk? I usually just head over there, but it would depend on how far the next store is. 3. What’s a typical day off of school and/or work like for you? I’m finished with school and I don’t have a job, but a typical day for me consists of checking social media, watching TV, watching YouTube, Tumblr, surveys, and resting. Lately I’ve also been playing my Nintendo Switch because I recently got Luigi’s Mansion 3, which I had been wanting to play since it came out. 4. What’s one talent you have that you don’t really work on, even though you have the ability to be good at it? I don’t have any. 5. How many hours of television do you watch a day? It really varies. Most of the time it’s on for background noise more than anything, but it depends on the day and what’s on. I multitask, so I tune in and out to what’s on unless it’s a new episode of a favorite show.  6. What about the amount of time you spend on the internet a day? I’m always either on my laptop or on my phone doing something, even if just watching YouTube.   7. How many hours of sleep do you get a day? Do you sleep in late? Lately, my sleep schedule has been from like 4AM to 12-1PM.  8. Do you drive to places that are less than three blocks away? I don’t drive, personally, but yeah my family and I take the car everywhere.  9. When was the last time you exercised? Uhhhh. 10. Ever copied and pasted your homework from a website on the internet? No. Sin 5: Wrath 1. If you could kill one person and get away with it, would you do it? No! 2. Is there anyone you honestly and truly can say that you hate? Besides myself, no. 3. Is there anyone you want revenge on, whether you want to get them back big-time or just play a little prank on them for hurting your feelings? No. I’m not a revengeful person. 4. Are you fighting with any friends right now? Why? No friends, so no. 5. Last time you were really angry? What happened? Blah. 6. When you’re angry, what do you do to calm yourself down? When I’m angry I shut down and just cry. 7. “Hate is just the fear of loving someone.” true or false? I wouldn’t say that. 8. What’s the best revenge you ever got on someone? I don’t seek revenge. 9. Was there any hard feelings after your last break-up? On whose end was it on? He broke things off with me, and there was definitely hard feelings on my end. He seemed completely unfazed.  10. Ever been cheated on? How did that make you feel? No. Sin 6: Envy 1. Is there anyone you’re jealous of? Name a person and tell us why. This is the envy section and envy and jealousy are different things. I am envious of certain types of people. 2. List three physical features some other people have that you’re envious of (no need to get specific and name people; you can just say something like “brown eyes” or “having perfect eyebrows”). Blue or green eyes, nice, shiny, thick hair that styles well, perfect shiny white teeth, fit bodies... 3. List three personality features that other people have that you’re envious of. Outgoing, intelligent, witty, adventurous, driven and ambitious, talented... 4. Are you a jealous significant other? I’m single. 5. Could you date someone who was really jealous? No. If they’re the possessive and abusive type, then absolutely not. 6. What celebrity’s looks do you envy the most? All the gorgeous ones. 7. Do you think anyone is envious of you? In your opinion, what characteristics (physical and mental) do you possess that you think someone might be envious of? HA, no. 8. What are a few things you wish you were good at? I wish I could play the piano, sing, draw, be an adult... 9. Did you ever date someone, break up, and then see them dating someone very attractive a few days later? Were you jealous of that person? No. 10. When looking at a love interest’s exes, do you often find yourself jealous of their good-looking exes? It has happened. Sin 7: Pride 1. What’s something you brag about a lot (be honest–we all brag sometimes)? I’m honestly probably the most non-braggy person you’ll ever meet. There, I guess that’s me bragging about something.  <<< Haaaa, same. I have nothing else to brag about. Also, bragging isn’t a cute look anyway. It’s one thing to be proud of yourself and your accomplishments, but bragging is another level. 2. What physical features do you take the most pride in? None. 3. Are you satisfied with what you have? Some things. 4. Be honest… when someone is telling you something, do you often change the subject so it’s about you and your accomplishments instead? Nooo, I’m very much the opposite. I shift the conversation away from me and towards them.  5. Do you like talking about your achievements? What achievements? 6. Do your parents tend to brag about how well you came out? My parents like to share that I went to a good college and got my BA in psych. Sounds all good when just left at that. Too bad I haven’t done anything at all since graduating and that degree is just collecting dust. I don’t even want to pursue that anymore. I have no idea what I want to do. If I’m being honest, I don’t want to do anything. :X  7. Do you strive to be better than others? Do you think competing with others is healthy? Ha, clearly not. 8. What do you do better than most people? Nothingggg. 9. Do you believe in taking pride in things you can’t control (ex. being proud of your heritage, being proud of your skin color, being proud of your natural artistic ability)? Sure.  10. Who are you competing with right now (it could be anything–classmates for a grade, co-workers for a position, other girl for a guy, etc.)? I don’t feel Im competing with anyone. I’m not even in the running.

Exodus 28:1-43, Matthew 25:31-26:13, Psalms 31:9-18, Proverbs 8:12-13
Today is the 8th day of February, welcome to the Daily Audio Bible I’m Brian it's great to be here with you as we close down another one of our weeks together. I'm grateful that we have the opportunity to…yeah…to finish well. So, we’ve been reading from the Voice translation this week, which is what we will continue to do today. And we are still at Mount Sinai, the mountain of God with the children of Israel and God is upon the mountain explaining to Moses what He would like this new culture that is being built, His chosen people, what He would like this to look like. Today, Exodus chapter 28.
Prayer:
Father, we thank You for Your word, we thank You for bringing us through another week successfully. We are so grateful for all that You are speaking to…into our lives thus far this year. So, as we seal this week and close the door and it becomes a part of our past, a part of our history, we look forward to all that You have yet to speak to us in the coming days and in the coming weeks. So, we worship You and we give You our gratitude. We love You and we thank You and we pray these things in the name of Jesus. Amen.
Announcements:
dailyaudiobible.com is home base, it's the website, it’s…well…it's where you find out what’s going on around here. It's our virtual home for our Global Campfire community. And, so, yeah there are resources there in the Shop that are created just for the journey that we are on. And definitely links to different places to interact.
And it's to remind you that the Daily Audio Bible is a family of programs. Like, maybe if English isn’t your native language, there's Daily Audio Bible in Espanola or French or Japanese or any number of languages but there’s also other English programs like Daily Audio Bible Chronological. My daughter, China is just doing a fantastic job. She's been at this with me…I mean only a couple years less than me. Her whole life has been centered around reading the Bible. And, so, she's growing up and leading a community through to the Bible in chronological order.
There’s also Daily Audio Bible Psalm and Daily Audio Bible Proverbs. Those are like vitamins because like listening to the Daily Audio Bible we’re going through a section of Scripture each day, we’re talking about it, we’re applying it to our lives, we’re getting history, we’re getting context. But the Psalms and the Proverbs, it's like a chapter a day. So, you can go through the entire book of Proverbs in a month. It’ll take you like less than five minutes a day to do it, or the Psalms is just a couple of minutes. And, so, they’re like vitamins that we can have throughout the day. Just get the Scriptures speaking into our lives and transforming us. So, check all that out. It's a…it's a big roaring Global Campfire that warms us and there's…there’s plenty of warmth to go around. So, check that out.
If you want to partner with the Daily Audio Bible you can do that at dailyaudiobible.com. The link is right on the homepage. If you’re using the app, you can press the Give button in the upper right-hand corner or if you like the mail better, the mailing address is PO Box 1996 Spring Hill Tennessee 37174.
And, as always, if you have a prayer request or encouragement, you can press the Hotline button in the app, the little red button that’s right next to the Give button in the upper right-hand corner and begin to share from there or you can dial 877-942-4253.
And that's all for today. I'm Brian I love you and I'll be waiting for you here tomorrow.
Community Prayer and Praise:
Hi my name is __ and I have been a DABber for about 10 years and this is the first time I’ve called in. Today I am asking for prayer for my son who is in his 40s and he’s morbidly obese and starting to develop the disease processes that occur with obesity. I have prayed for years and all things only become worse. I can see the road ahead will be difficult for him if things do not change. I’m asking all to flood the heavens with prayer and petition asking for God’s intervention. Please pray for diet change, exercise, healing, sleep, and stress relief all things needed to obtain the goal of healthy living. Thank you so very much.
Good morning it is February 1st this is Sheryl from southeastern Washington. I just got through listening to the Daily Audio Bible for February 1. I thank you Brian and Joe for this ministry. I just heard a prayer request from Charisse who’s 32 years old and was in an accident January 6th who lost her husband and has little ones at home. Charisse I just wanted to let you know I’m praying for you and I know there are many, many, many other DAB family members who are praying for you also. I have hardly…no words to say but just to let you know that we’re praying for you and we will be praying for you, keeping you in our thoughts and prayers. And just keep in touch with us to let us know how you’re doing. Thank you. Love you all DAB family. Love you Charisse. Bye.
Constantine my name is Leslie I live in Missouri and I’m praying for you. I am so very sorry that you lost your sweet husband and I am praying for you that you and your children will heal and recover and have peace in the middle of this awful, awful tragedy. I am so sorry sister. I love you and I’m praying for you.
Help me dear Lord as I go through this day to glorify you in every available way and not bring reproach by the things that I say to believe in your word and just trust and obey there’s darkness around me Lord please give me your light let me know father that everything is all right dispel all the shadows make everything clear and when I get lonely father please linger near strengthen my faith God and let me shine bright knowing that in all things I’m truly alright and when there’s sadness Lord help me to smile to believe and to hope with the faith of a child dependent in all ways just like life is to the sun not my will father but thy will be done
[email protected]. I’d like to give a special shout out to Donny Vice. Thank you so much for your prayers, your love and continuous support. And once again Brian and the Hardin family thank you for this wonderful podcast for God’s Holy Spirit to flow. Keep flowing y’all.
Hello family DAB this is Timothy Pitt from Edinburgh in Scotland in the UK. I have called in before but so rarely that by way of introduction I first started listening to DAB in 2010. I was just desperate to listen to the Bible. I wanted to do it every day. I wanted it to be Audio and I wanted it of course to be the Bible. So, believe it not the words I actually typed in in my search were Daily Audio Bible and there it was. And I listened since 2010 although I’ve got a back catalog from 2006 in the origins. I’ve done DAB kids with my boys. I’m a double DABber with China and Ben as well. The main point of calling is along with the God of Your Story book, just to encourage everyone to stick at it. It is such an amazing resource to be able to listen to the Bible, to see the story, God’s story for us, and set out throughout the whole year. And the God of Your Story book, yes it absolutely encapsulates everything over the whole history a of DAB. The prayer community is flourishing, is tremendous. The Prayer Wall, wow! But yeah, just a quick encouragement to everyone. Everyone who, like me, rarely or never calls in, just put up your silent prayers, your local prayers, just put up your prayers. God hears us all. God loves us all and through this wonderful community of DAB we can come together to God. So, blessings to everyone.
Hello Daily Audio Bible family my name is Michael Davis I am one of the sons of Diana Davis the one that’s going through stage IV brain cancer right now. And, so, I’m calling in because I heard to prayer 2 requests on behalf of my mom one on January 30th I think and then the first prayer request of the February 1st prayer line. And, so, thank you so much for that. Whoever did call in to request prayers for my mom, thank you whether it was my mom herself or one of her our family members because I tried sending my prayer request in on January 9th or 10th but I don’t think mine went through, either that or I was just like asleep during one of the Daily Audio Bible broadcasts and didn’t get to hear prayers or something like that. But anyway, the story about my mom right now to give an update, as of February 2nd 12:56 AM she’s going through some irregular breathing patterns and she is just really unconscious. She can’t eat or drink anything. And, so, she’s probably about to pass away soon. And, so, if you guys can just keep praying about my mom and keep praying over our family that would be greatly appreciated because if my mom passes away, I want to make sure that my brother and I don’t get separated. I don’t really consider myself autistic anymore because I feel like I’ve healed myself through just eating a lot of watery rich fruits. And, so, my brother he’s on the middle part of the spectrum of autism though and my mom and dad are separated. I can talk to my dad anytime I want to on FaceTime so could my mom if she is, you know, ends up being conscious and whatnot. But it’s just our family is separated. Anyway if you guys could pray over my brother and I and especially my mom just make sure we’re not separated I would heavily appreciate that because of my brother and I got separated that it be very, very devastating for me especially.
Hello Daily Audio Bible I’m calling for Charisse who recently lost her husband in a motor vehicle accident and she herself has had three surgeries and is still in the hospital. Charisse, I am so, so, so sorry for what you have walked through and I want to lift you up to the Lord and I want to remind you that when Mary lost her brother Lazarus that Jesus wept with her, that you not only have the Daily Audio Bible praying for you but you also have our Lord praying for you. And that is my prayer, that He not only brings you all the comfort and the healing and the compassion and the strength that you need to get through this but also that you would be reminded every time you hug your twins and you hug your six-year-old that He’s holding you too, through each and every moment of this journey that you are now on. This world is broken, and we suffer in ways that are unimaginable at times, but Jesus never changes. He’s always faithful and He always remains ready to walk us through absolutely everything. Again, I’m so, so sorry but I will continue to lift you up in prayer as will the rest of the DAB family. I pray God blesses you and comforts you today dear friend. This is All the Treasures from Wyoming.

THE COURAGE OF DETAILS
They will have all the extra motivation that comes from being freed from the constraints of research. So far, we've reduced the problem from the direction of the arts, you're less likely to depend on this sort of calming lie is that we grow up thinking horrible things are normal. You could start users with a seed filter, but ultimately each user should have his own per-word probabilities based on the pie fallacy is stated explicitly:.1 Combine that with Pirsig and you get: Live in the future is to focus extra attention on specific parts of the email. Most hackers' first instinct is to try to think of startup ideas. As subjects got softer, the lies got more frequent. But if you yourself don't have good taste, how are you going to recognize a good designer? And the reason you should avoid these things is that you are already working as hard as you can in so many print publications—which is one of the first things he'll ask is, how much more.2 Let me repeat that recipe: finding the problem intolerable and feeling it must be very hard. In fact, faces seem to have made that deal, though perhaps it has to be able to filter them. I do, I look them straight in the eye and say I'm designing a new dialect of Lisp.3
In restoring your old car you have made yourself richer. At YC we call ideas that grow naturally out of the corner of his mouth is very disconcerting. This isn't quite true. Competitors commonly find ways to work around a patent.4 If economic inequality should be decreased. The source of the problem it fixes.5 The same is true in the arts, but most hackers are very competitive.
There is no such thing as better, it doesn't make any difference what Larry Page's net worth is compared to yours. Treat a startup as an optimization problem will help you avoid another pitfall that VCs worry about, and rightly—taking a long time it was most of making things easier, but now that the things we build are so complicated, there's another rapidly growing subset: making things easier. Windows itself.6 But really it doesn't matter much which you use. Why do you keep emails around after you've read them? The problem is not, in itself, what makes startups kick butt, but rather that small groups can be select. Marie Curie was on it because she was a woman, but as the corpus grows such tuning will happen automatically anyway.7 What are they to do? You pick the companies you want to get rich, and this trend has decades left to run. Right?
How do you tell whether something is the germ of a giant company. While the best way to discover startup ideas is to work with him on something. Kids, almost by definition, lack self-control.8 But it's not just fastidiousness that makes good hackers avoid nasty little problems. A viable startup might only have ten employees, which puts you within a factor of two? But I also think that the more different it gets.9 I've learned, to some degree, to judge technology by its cover. When you negotiate terms with a startup idea in one month, what if they'd chosen a month before the Altair appeared? What would you think of a financial advisor who put all his client's assets into one volatile stock? But that world ended a few years?
But you can't trust your opinions in the same way about the operating system. Notice all this time I've been talking about the limit case: the case where you not only have zero leisure time but indeed work so hard that you endanger your health.10 The unsexy filter is to ask yourself whether in your previous job you ever found yourself saying Why doesn't someone make x?11 Programs are very complex and, at least, by eliminating the drag of the pointy-haired middle manager who would be your boss in a big company: the pay's low but you spend most of your time working on new stuff. I wouldn't try to defend the actual numbers. Except in a few cases to buy a certain stock. Design by committee is a synonym for bad design. The Matrix have such resonance. Arguably pastoralism transformed a luxury into a commodity. Being at the leading edge of some rapidly changing field, there will be things that are false, and I'm going to talk about it to have anything more useful to say.12
Great programmers are sometimes said to be indifferent to money.13 Of all the approaches to fighting spam, from software to laws, I believe Bayesian filtering will be the single most effective. Don't spend much time worrying about the details of deal terms, especially when you first start angel investing. The part of angel investing that the decisions are hard. When I protested that the teacher had said the opposite, my father replied that the guy had no idea what he was talking about—that he was on the list because he was a programmer that Facebook seemed a good idea to have a mind that's prepared in the right startups is for investors.14 We were all lied to as kids, and some of the growth in economic inequality we've seen since then has been due to bad behavior of various kinds, there has been a qualitative change in the world. A job means doing something people want.
The way to kill it is to be young. This way you might be able to make something useful.15 I soon reached the conviction that much in the stories of the Bible could not be anything waiting for it. It was not till we were in our twenties that the truth came out: my sister, then about three, had accidentally stepped on the cat and broken its back. Instead of trading violins directly for potatoes, you trade violins for, say, approach offers as in this approach offers having a probability of more than. The reason our hypothetical jaded 10 year old leaning against a lamppost with a cigarette hanging out of the founders' own experiences organic startup ideas—by spending time learning about the easy part. If anyone wants to take on this kind of project. The cartoon strip Dilbert has a lot of other people's. Pay particular attention to things that chafe you. A company big enough to be fairly conservative, and within the company the people in the future, not now.16 So the guys you end up with special offers and valuable offers having probabilities of.
Notes
Down rounds are at selling it. Living on instant ramen would be improper to name names, while simultaneously implying that lies believed for a patent is conveniently just longer than the 50 minutes they may end up reproducing some of these groups, which is the odds are slightly worse.
Something similar has been happening for a reason.
Most were wrong, but investors can get done before that.
Give the founders.
It was harder for Darwin's contemporaries to grasp this than we can teach startups a lot more frightening in those days, then they're not ready to invest, it is still what seemed to us.
It was harder for you? Exercise for the talk to a car dealer.
Some are merely ugly ducklings in the production of high school kids at least bet money on convertible notes often have valuation caps, a market price if they did that in practice signalling hasn't been much of The New Industrial State to trying to focus on their utility function for money. So it may not be if Steve hadn't come back. They therefore think what they meant. So what ends up happening is that so many trade publications nominally have a single cause.
The existence of people we need to.
Different sections of the world as a definition of property without affecting and probably also the fashion leaders. Later stage investors won't invest.
We could have used another algorithm and everything I write out loud at least for those interested in each type of mail, I advised avoiding Javascript. One of the corpora.
After reading a draft of this essay, I have a standard piece of casuistry for this situation: that startups usually lose money at first had two parts: the source of food. Exercise for the talk to an adult. Throw in the King James Bible is Pride goeth before destruction, and many of the flock, or want tenure, avoid casual conversations with other people's.
If not, and B doesn't, that's not relevant to an investor derives mostly from the example of a type of thing. None at all. Which OS? You can build things for programmers, the work of selection.
So far, I suspect five hundred would be worth trying to capture the service revenue as well, but this sort of Gresham's Law of conversations. But an associate is not pagerank commercialized. A small, fast browser that was really only useful for one user.
It might also be good employees either. There is nothing more unconvincing, for example, would not be surprised if VCs' tendency to push founders to try to be staying at a particular valuation, that all metaphysics between Aristotle and 1783 had been Boylston Professor of Rhetoric at Harvard Business School at the mercy of investors want to stay in a limited way, without becoming a police state. But in most competitive sports, the computer hardware and software companies constrained in a place to exchange views. No Logo, Naomi Klein says that a company that could be mistaken, and—and probably also a second factor: startup founders are in a series.
Together these were the case of the growth in wealth, and there didn't seem to have too few customers even if the president faced unscripted questions by giving a press conference. This probably undervalues the company than you expect.
Dropbox wasn't rejected by all the best startups, the higher the walls become.
Thanks to Brad Templeton, Trevor Blackwell, Fred Wilson, the friends I promised anonymity to, Robert Morris, and Jessica Livingston for smelling so good.

Well, JFC crew, we’ve reached the end of another fabulous fic! Thank you so much to everyone who read along and participated in the weekly discussions - you all are the best.
And of course, a huge thank you to @swissmissing for writing The Baker Street Nativity in the first place and for coming along to our Author Q&A to share some insight into her writing process and background to this fic. Questions and answers are below the cut as this got quite long!
And finally, thanks once again to @frodosweetstuff for allowing us to use her artwork for these update posts!
Happy holidays everyone - may you and your loved ones be safe and happy this festive season! xx
1: Why this AU? What got you started on it? @ewebie
I saw the movie and with MF in it, of course I immediately started thinking of how it could be a Johnlock AU.  I do that frequently anyway: imagine Johnlock versions of stuff. I just watched a few Netflix Xmas movies recently and I am still thinking of how to turn them into Johnlock AU's. I see the world through Johnlock-coloured glasses. Is that healthy or normal? IDK.
2. Would you ever consider publishing your fanfic? @norburylibrary
No. First off, the story is obviously cadged from a copyrighted screenplay. To publish it for real, as an original work, I'd have to scrub the names and characters so that they don't interfere with BBC copyright. That part should be feasible, but the story itself is too close to the Nativity screenplay. As for any of my other fics, the non-fusion ones, I don't think I've written anything that could stand on its own without the Sherlock association. One of the huge assets of fan fiction is there is a built-in character background and setting. I'm not up to rewriting to the extent of creating something that could be published as an original work.
3.  What do you enjoy writing most, humor or angst and why? @elwinglyre
I can do both, but I guess I'm more drawn to angst. I think humor is harder to pull off, for me at least. I'm not a naturally funny person. I have to think hard to come up with funny situations and lines. Confession: In some of my fics, there are certain punch lines that were actually written by my beta readers. I think Sherlock and John - in fact all of the Sherlock BBc universe - lends itself more naturally to angst anyway. although there are humorour parts in the eps, I find them more geared towards angst.
4.  Was it confusing at all having seen the movie to then switch the roles?  When writing it. @sherlock-nanowrimo
Yes, totally confusing at first! I started out with the "natural" roles, with John as the teacher and Sherlock as the assistant, but it wasn't working for me so somehow I just got the idea to try it the other way round. Once I started down that path though, it wasn't confusing for me. I was worried throughout that it would be confusing for readers. But everyone who commented and said they had seen the movie, also said the switch wasn't hard for them to deal with.
5.  When you write is it because you get a fic idea or for some other reason? Like stress reliever or for doing something fun? @tildathings
Good question. I always want to write. I get a great feeling of satisfaction when I write something. Especially when I finish a piece. It's a big shot of dopamine for me. It carries me for a long time, sometimes days. BUT I can't force myself to write. I tried that one year with nanowrimo and it was not a good thing. So I can really only write when "the muse" grabs me. When I get an idea that sticks with me for days and weeks. And with this fic, it really came alive and almost wrote itself, once I was on the right track.
6. How much do you base your writing on the show and how much on your headcanon? @travelingwithoutthedoctor
This is a problem too, as I haven't gone back and watched the episodes in a really long time. Many of the eps I only saw once in the first place. I have the feeling that the fandom circles you travel in tend to create a fancanon that pretty much replaces the actual canon. So that's something I struggle with. I actually try when I write to imagine and hear the TV characters speaking and acting things out, in the hopes that it makes it closer to how they might actually be in those situations. I suppose that's unavoidable. I'm sure I do have an image of the characters in my mind, and I write from that. I just hope they are pretty aligned with the original characters from the show.
7.  I thought you did an incredible job making Sherlock a teacher for young children credible. That wasn't something we'd think of Sherlock doing, and you made it work. What did you take into consideration when doing this? @elwinglyre
Woo boy, that's a thing! He is so completely unsuited for this position. I had to justify him being in that position, however, so I kind of hand-waved something. Honestly, it wasn't my priority. I was just trying to create Johnlock moments. I mean, I think he's actually quite good with children. We've seen that on the show with Archie. I think it would depend on the kids.
8.  I’m curious about the speed of writing. How quickly do you get a chapter done? @vitruvianwatson
Once I get going, I can usually do about a chapter a week. My chapters tend to be 2-5K.
9.  The UST, miscommunication and angst of this fic was deliciously frustrating, and a lot of us were yelling at them to just sort themselves out. If that was the hardest part about reading it, I'm wondering about what was difficult to write in this fic?  Were there certain sections or characters that you found challenging? @lediona25
I was honestly following the pacing of the movie, pretty much. I did need to add some scenes. I tried to pace it so that there was a romantic bit about at the halfway point, and another one for the big payoff at the end. One challenging bit was the dog. I wasn't sure whether to include him, but once I did, I kept forgetting about him. I kept having to go back and remember where the dog was and who was taking care of him. I don't have a dog so I was just doing what I've seen other people doing with their dogs. They leave them tied up outside of shops and restaurants all the time so I figured it was okay. Again, it wasn't really a priority. A lot of people commented that they liked the dog in there though, so I'm glad I left him in.
10. It was perfect casting!  We were talking about it during the movie - like with Greg as the headmistress. @sherlock-nanowrimo
That's one of the best parts of doing a fusion, for me anyway, is the casting.  I love discovering how characters map onto each other. Sometimes it's astonishing.  I HAD SO MUCH FUN WITH JIM!!  I didn't want to make him actually evil or a real threat. It always gives me massive anxiety when Moriarty shows up in a fic because often truly awful things happen then. But I wanted to keep this in line with it being a kids' movie. And to be fair, I didn't really need to change all that much from the movie bad guy anyway. That nativity play he put on was insane! And I actually was just teaching one of my classes last year about universal story plots such as the hero's journey.  (Yes, I'm an English teacher.) 11.  One of your ficlets suggests some pretty unpleasant stuff re: Jim's backstory. @bluebellofbakerstreet
Jim's backstory. I kind of imagined he and Sherlock had been rivals at the conservatory and Jim had tried to derail Sherlock with drugs. Perhaps somewhat successfully.
12.  What the hell is the story with Sherlock and whatever he did to Seb Wilkes?! @ewebie
I don't know either! LOL that is actually something I like doing in fics because, again, I like it when fics do that: hint at something but not elaborate and leave it up to you to decide what was actually going on.  I guess maybe that's frustrating to some people but for me, it gives fics depth and realism.  It's like in some fics where you just hear about a case in passing but the details are never fleshed out. I was using it to show that Sherlock had made poor decisions with kids in the past, so this thing he did with taking the kids to the studio wasn't out of character.
13. John... as a classroom assistant. How did you see him ending up there? Our conclusion was that... lost people just sometimes end up places @ewebie
I don't recall if it's explained in the fic or not, but I actually had something in mind for that. He was invalided out of the army and bumming around with nothing to do, feeling useless. His good friend Mike, who was also a teacher, recommended him to Greg as a classroom assistant. No idea if that would be allowed in the UK but here in Switzerland it's frequently done. Usually a retired person will be brought in as a classroom assistant. This keeps them active and engaged, and is a big help to the teachers.
14.  We loved the whole scene with Moriarty at the end when Mycroft pops out and saves the day.  You did a bang-up job with that.  When you're finishing a story, are you one those "I've planned it all out" writers or stream of consciousness writers. Let's go with the flow? @elwinglyre
In this case, the ending was written for me. I just followed the plot of the movie. Usually, though, I do have the ending in mind from the start. It's usually pretty much a sex scene, lol. The whole point of the fic is usually, how do I get these two together?
15.  Oh! The sex! Is that easy for you to write. I have the hardest time with that. Is something your really get into? @elwinglyre
True story (which I also told on one of my guest slots on the TPP): I didn't use to be able to write sex scenes. But I wanted to. So I literally would copy sex scenes from fics I liked. Just like, typing them out word for word. This got me used to writing those words and those acts on my screen. Then I tried writing my own. I think I sort of have a reputation for writing awkward-realistic sex scenes. I'm not aiming for that, it's just how they come out. It's a mix of, again, imagining how the characters would appear and act and speak in those situations, and also I guess how I would feel and want things to be.
16. We have a lot of people in this group who are just starting out writing fic or are thinking about writing something, do you have any advice to new writers? @lediona25
I'll just say what we started out talking about: Write for yourself. Write what you want to read. You will always have an appreciative audience. I see so many writers get discouraged because they don't have massive hits and kudos, and they just give up. I think most of the popular writers in fandom have been around for years. This may be their third or fourth fandom. They've been writing in real life. Experience takes a long time to build up.So write for yourself. The rest will come. And... at the moment, it feels a bit like there's less readers than 2 years ago, so really really don't be discouraged.
Thanks to all those who asked questions and to @swissmissing for her thoughtful answers! :)

Deltarune asks
Did you ever end up going back to do the card suite puzzle in Deltarune? Just so you know, if you didn’t you can still go back to do that since the last save in the game is before you fight King. I’d recommend checking the prison elevator again before doing that though.
I haven’t gotten around to it yet, or replaying the game in general. That’s a good point about the save, thank you!
As for the prison elevator: Since finishing the game, I’ve been hanging out in the Deltarune channel on Lore’s Discord server, where I found out about Jevil. I’ve heard he claims he “can do anything”, is based on some clown stickers, and I found out yesterday how you find him. Apparently his fight is supposed to be pretty good, making up for some of the flaws in the King fight? That’s definitely another thing I want to check out, yeah.
After reading your Deltarune post, I'm so upset that you didn't mention Kris's soul getting sent to the Birdcage at the end.
Pfft! I certainly missed an opportunity there, yeah. :p
Maybe I would’ve made that joke if I had been in less of an “I just want to finish the game and go to bed” state of mind at that point. And in more of a Worm mindset.
"Heroes of Light? I don’t know, I don’t think I’d peg either of them as having that aspect." Foreshadowing the tweest ending much? Heroes of Light have a certain, ha, 'passion' for not losing.
Hehe.
Y’know, if the theory I’ve seen going around about Kris ripping their own soul out to stop us from stealing their agency and their story is right, I could actually see that as having to do with the Light aspect. I’m not sure what class it’d be, though. Maybe that reflects more on the player than on Kris, making us Vriskas Thieves of Light.
You know what did foreshadow the ending, though, that I totally called? The character overview specifying that Kris’s body contained a human soul.
Toby Fox had some things to say about Deltarune you may or may not want to read: http://www.twitlonger.com/show/n_1sqn3p9
Alright, let’s see what the Fox has to say:
1. "Is this a sequel? What's going on?? I'm scared..." Please don't worry too much about that. Actually, I'm worried if people worry too much about "what it is," they might not be able to properly enjoy it... (laugh) I will say that basically, what you're seeing here is not the world of UNDERTALE. UNDERTALE's world and ending are the same as however you left them. If everyone was happy in your ending, the people in the UNDERTALE world will still be happy. So, please don't worry about those characters, and that world. It will remain untouched. To rephrase that, DELTARUNE's world is a different one. With different characters, that have lived different lives. A whole new story will happen... I don't know what you call this kind of game. It's just a game you can play after you complete UNDERTALE, if you want to. That's all.
...alright, fair enough. I don’t trust that it’s not connected, especially through Sans (metanarrative timeline agent that he is) and maybe Chara, but it does seem to be an alternate world.
2. "I have questions I want to ask about the story..." There's a lot of questions I'd like to answer, too. That's why I have to make the game. Please wait until then.
A game dev’s equivalent of Robert Jordan’s “read and find out”.
3. "When will the next chapter come out?" This is a difficult question. When I made the demo of UNDERTALE, I made it to prove to myself that it was possible to make a whole game alone (with some help with the art). Because I was able to make it in a few months, I felt that I had proved that it was possible. However, making the demo of DELTARUNE... took a few years. So, given the length of the rest of the game, and how long I'd be willing to spend on a project (7 years maximum) I think the answer is that it's actually impossible to make this game.
I wonder how many people he’s working with. Maybe that’s the solution to this issue, to outsource some of the work to people he trusts.
Lots of things make this game harder to make than the last time. - The graphics are much more complicated and don't play to my strengths (black and white battle graphics were easy...) - The battle system is much more complicated due to multiple characters (I'll write about this later) - The overworld and other sections are more complicated due to multiple characters - Having multiple main characters is much harder to write especially introducing everyone properly in chapter 1 - The entire town had to be created correctly on the first try to set up properly for the rest of the game And further things outside of those: - Trouble starting tasks/concentrating and general difficulty paying attention - Travelling / other responsibilities like translation/ports - Self-doubt / burnout regarding the creation of the game Essentially it's not possible to make this game as one person (and Temmie).
Oh jeez, it’s only him and Temmie Chang?
Also, “Trouble starting tasks/concentrating and general difficulty paying attention” sounds like ADHD to me. I can relate heavily to this point.
However, it MIGHT be possible to create the game if I'm able to make a team. So I'm going to try making a team. Because I really want to make this. But I may not be able to succeed because I have no experience successfully directing a team and I have no idea who I'm going to work with.
Yes, good. That sounds a lot healthier.
I’m sure he can do it. In a pinch, I know he knows people who can probably give him pointers on team leadership, too, over at What Pumpkin.
Since I haven't started assembling the team yet I have absolutely no estimation of its completion. It could take up to 999 years depending on the efficiency level. By the way, I currently plan to release all of the chapters at once after we complete them. I'm not sure how long that will take. You'll buy all of the chapters at once as one purchase. That'll be the only option. I'm not doing pre-orders because I don't like those. It just seems like the best way not to burn anybody. Price is unknown. It depends on how long the game is, and how much it costs to make... I don't know anything about what consoles, etc. it'll come out for because by the time it comes out we might be on Playstation 14 or something. So... in short, I have no idea.
That’s all very fair.
4. "Is this the game's final design? Will you change anything?" It's possible I could change things. This is basically a demo. I might even change this first chapter before release depending on how development goes. This is really an excuse to talk about the parts I think had issues. THE BATTLE SYSTEM: I think the battle system could be explained better. I had a super duper long explanation of things here but really it boils down to: 1. UT's system is incompatible with multiple party members but I wanted to do it anyway because it's cool 2. I'd like to make it so for pacifist players, characters won't have to "defend" so much Oh. The people who tested the game thought that the TP system and animations were cool so it's not all bad. By the way, did you notice that getting close to bullets makes enemy attacks end faster? It doesn't work for every attack, but...
I didn’t notice that detail, but I do appreciate the way it adds to TP without having to defend. But I found myself defending a lot anyway just because it was the only thing there was much point in doing with the characters in question sometimes.
I do feel like there wasn’t enough to use the TP for, but that seems like something that might change as the characters develop more skills over the course of the full game.
EVERYTHING ELSE: I thought everything else was OK. Actually some parts were kind of lazy, like finding the key pieces, but oh well. The UI had some things that could be changed too. When making a game, there's so much to do you have to draw the line somewhere. That's why I need other people to help me (laugh) Oh, and I have no plans to add more content to the first chapter.
5. "Will there be multiple endings?" No. No matter what you do the ending will be the same. (Honestly most games are like that, but for some reason it feels really oppressive to say here...) I think that's part of the reason why the ACT / FIGHT system feels so vestigial in this one. Oh... I'm just talking about the battle system again...
Toby sounds a lot like Napstablook in this thing.
A single ending, huh? Interesting, considering the contrasts between Deltarune and Undertale regarding whether your choices matter and whether fighting is sometimes necessary, and the fact that Ralsei explicitly asks you to do a pacifist run.
6. "I found some kind of bug, will you fix it?" Hopefully an e-mail for that exists on the website by now. Or, it would be better if you could tweet it with #deltarunebug . That would really help us and make our lives easier because tweets are easier to ignore than e-mails
Ahaha!
7. "Can I be on the team?" I'll ask you first!!! (Total silence)
The humor is picking up here. :p
8. "What's the progress on the rest of the game so far?" 0%!!! Nothing!!! I've done nothing!!! I mean, I've done some songs and written the whole story, but... Since no programming or final art has been done, it's best to just think of it at 0%. 9. "Will you do a Kickstarter?" I still haven't finished that damn Alarm Clock, are you kidding me? There's no way I'm doing a Kickstarter this time.
I assume he’s referencing a pledge reward from the Kickstarter for Undertale (that was how I first found out about Undertale, actually, though I then forgot about it until it came out) that hasn’t panned out, or something like that.
10. "The game doesn't work" / "I don't like the game" / "Will there be a version for (platform)?" Because it's a free download I'm surrounded by a forcefield that destroys all complaints and platform requests. There might be more platforms for the DEMO but I don't want to make any promises. (At the very least it'd be nice to do something for the people who bought the game on console.) By the way at the time of writing I haven't even rendered a Mac version whatsoever at all. I hope I can release it... (laugh)
I have a friend who was unable to play the game himself because (as far as I can recall) he’s on a Mac. But yeah, this is fair.
11. "Can I buy the soundtrack for Chapter 1?" Yes! You can buy it at [ http://tobyfox.bandcamp.com ] And other forms of distribution will be in the works too. I'm writing this in the past so I don't know what I just said. 12. "Any closing remarks?" (No one asks this, but...) Thanks for playing my game. I hope you liked it. For the past 3 years I've been waking up in the middle of the night unable to go back to sleep because I've been thinking about the scenes that happen in the game. Even though so many details are still hazy, I really want to show you the things I've been thinking about. That's really my only reason for making this game. If I don't show you what I'm thinking, I'll lose my mind. (It was actually a totally selfish motivation...)
...interesting. Looks like we’re in for a ride when the full game comes.
Not that I was really doubting that.
By the way, I was really worried at first about making this. The expectations for my next work would be really high, so high that I knew that no matter what I did, I felt like people would be underwhelmed. If you played "UNDERTALE," I don't think I can make anything that makes you feel "that way" again. However, it's possible I can make something else. It's just something simple but maybe you'll like it. See you in ?? years... OK? Don't forget.
My audience probably won’t believe me if I say I won’t, due to my history of bad memory, but I don’t think I will.
And yeah. Especially when you’re connecting it to Undertale and its characters, people are going to compare the two. But even if Deltarune isn’t quite the same hit as Undertale was, it’ll be worth it, I’m sure.

Tumblr media
CAS is an essential part of the IB programme, but coming up with ideas for it can be very challenging, especially if money is tight. Therefore, I present to you 99 Free (or at the very least, inexpensive) CAS ideas!
Please like/reblog if this helped you, and so that it can help others! ❤︎
Creativity
1. Learn a new language: Free apps or websites like Duolingo or Mondly can help you learn a variety of languages. Here is a post about the language availability on various apps. You can even practice by manually translating song lyrics, which really is just an excuse to listen to Bollywood hits, K-pop, or even Shakira- there’s no reason to not have a little fun with it! If you do just 10 minutes a day you’ll get over an hour of CAS done every week. If you do 20 minutes a day, you’ll get over 2 hours a week, and by spending a little more than 20 minutes on one or two days you can easily get 2 and a half hours of CAS a week. 10 weeks of this and you’ll have 50% of your creativity hours done, and all while having fun listening to songs, and not having to spend a penny!
2. Making gifs or edits: You’re already on tumblr, why not use it as an opportunity for CAS? Making original content takes time, and will quickly fill up those 50 hours! If you don’t want your CAS supervisor see which fandoms you’re a part of, make school related content, for example making subject moodboards (self spon), edits of your required reading (maybe typography for your favourite quotes?), or giffing your favourite historical figures. If you’re experienced you can mass produce content, and if you’re a beginner you can check that “new skills” box! GIMP is free, and Photoshop has a free trial. After that you can either pay for it, or perhaps scour the internet for alternative ways to keep it (though you didn’t hear it from me). If you fulfill requests then it counts as service as well.
3. Art: You can either create digital art using the programs listed in the previous suggestion, or you can do it the old fashioned. While art supplies tend to cost a lot, there is no shame in making sketches or comics using good ol’ ink and lead pencils that you already have in your pencil case, and doing it in a notebook. If you’re willing to splurge, there are tons of ways to go with your art!
4. Photography: While a good camera is expensive, you probably already have a camera in your phone. The quality won’t be ideal, but you can easily practice photographing different motifs in different styles. You can also retouch and enhance the photos with GIMP and Photoshop, as mentioned above.
5. Join or create a low maintenance club: Baking and music may be fun, but ingredients cost money, and so do instruments. A debate club or film club won’t cost anything, except maybe if you buy popcorn! Regular meetings will ensure regular CAS hours.
6. Write poetry: Writing a good poem can take many, many hours, which in the context of CAS is a good thing! Take a stroll in the forest or by the seaside and feel those creative juices flowing!
7. Write a book: You know that idea for a novel you’ve had for ages? Write it down. It may feel awkward to show to your writing to your supervisor, but think of it as a free editor or focus group. This is a great excuse to fulfill your dream of becoming an author. Who knows? Maybe the final product is good enough to send to a publisher, or to self-publish on amazon so you can make some money!
8. Make Redbubble designs: A spin-off of the digital art suggestion. Whether it’s simple text or intricate fanart, Redbubble is a great place to display your creativity, and can even make you some money if you’re lucky!
9. Join a choir: Privately owned choirs may cost to join, but your local church will probably let you in for free.
10. Play an instrument: If you don’t already own an instrument, this isn’t a great option on a budget. However, some of you will already own a keyboard or a guitar, and may even already be taking lessons. If you are, then there is no reason not to use it for CAS. And if you own an instrument but don’t go to classes, simply practice on our own or watch tutorials on YouTube.
11. Dungeons and Dragons: Shocking, I know, but it is actually quite easy to justify D&D as creativity. A friend of mine succeeded in doing this, stating that it involved team work, initiative, commitment and problem solving. It goes to show that most things can be justified as CAS if you word everything well enough.
12. Makeup, nail art, or body paint: I highly doubt that applying mascara in the morning counts, but there are certainly many ways to express yourself with makeup. SFX, intricate patterns and new techniques certainly require creativity.
13. Dance: Dance will be expanded on in the Action section, but dance is not only exercise, but a form of expression which requires passion and creativity.
14. Learn coding: Coding has become a valuable skill in the recent years. There’s an endless amount of sources online, many of them free. Not only is it an interesting skill, but it’s an impressive skill to see on a résumé.
15. Make a game or an app: Game development is certainly not easy, but that just means that there will be plenty of hours for you to log! It also has the potential to make you money, which of course is a plus!
16. Start a YouTube channel: Buying a microphone and camera is expensive, but unless you’re aiming to become a YouTube star there’s no reason to spend money on equipment. CAS doesn’t discriminate between a $500 camera and a built in webcam, or between Adobe Premiere and Windows Movie Maker, so utilize what you have.
17. Join the school newspaper: The school newspaper is a great way to ensure regular hours, and can even count as service. There are many different types of articles, so you can get some variety in it too.
18. Send in articles to a newspaper: If you think the school newspaper is aiming too low, you can always submit articles to local newspapers or online magazines such as Buzzfeed. Your submissions may not always be published, but it’s worth a try, and the hours will count anyway!
19. Make a PSA video: There are tonnes of important causes you can promote, and a PSA video is a great way to do it. Furthermore, the service aspect will count for service hours, and if you do it with a friend it can count as a CAS project.
20. Acting: There are plenty of auditions around, whether it be to a school play or primetime TV. You don’t even need to get a role, simply auditioning is enough as you’ve been a risk taker (your coordinator will appreciate you using the IB learner profile in your reflections), and been creative.
21. Making a short film: Combining he last two points, making a video and acting, take this chance to make a short film (or a full length one depending on your ambition) and Kenneth Branagh’ it as producer, director, writer and lead.
22. Learn animation: Self-explanatory, and a very impressive skill to have.
23. Free online courses: Whether it be public speaking or anthropology, there are many free courses online which can be justified as creativity. Some courses may even look good on your résumé.
24. Make a board game: Board games are a lot of fun, but harder to make than they seem. Your creation might not be the next Monopoly, but it may provide some entertainment when you’re meeting your friends, and wouldn’t playing games with your friend be a great way to get CAS hours?
25. Gardening: A beautiful garden is a challenge to create, but challenges are a part of CAS! From a terrarium to a full scale English garden, there are many options for gardening. Here are some cheap ideas.
26. Make a podcast: Podcasts have become quite popular in the last few years, so try it out for yourself! There are many different topics you could cover, some which could count as service. Discussing one of those topics with a friend could be a great idea for a CAS project.
27. Make a website: This one is quite self-explanatory. Like the podcast, you could easily add a service aspect into it, and working with a friend could make it a CAS project.
28. Translating transcripts of spoken word poem: this one comes from @kahvia, who says “I found the transcripts of the poems on the Internet (some are hard to get, so once I just messaged the author on Facebook) and translated into my native language. It's hard and time consuming, but can be done on the go, so you can do CAS when commuting.”
29. Calligraphy: I must confess that I don’t know a lot about calligraphy, but I assume that amazing tools can cost quite a bit. But remember, CAS isn’t about quality, it’s about quantity, so screw expensive tools and just go for it!
30. Create your own font: Like with most things in life, wikihow has got your back.
31. Make an interactive story: Cool and largely uncharted territory, and definitely a unique experience. This will help you out.
32. Learn origami: Origami is beautiful, and the possibilities are endless. Although origami paper is preferred, it is possible to use regular paper too, which will save you some bucks. Google and YouTube have a million tutorials, so they got you covered.
33.  Make a Studyblr: Do you have any idea how many hours I’m getting just by making this list?
Action
1. Go jogging: Perhaps the most obvious free exercise is jogging. All you need is a pair of sneakers and you’re good to go (jogging)!
2. Play Pokémon Go: If you are still one of the few people playing Pokémon Go, walk until your eggs hatch. You could simply walk, but games make it a bit more interesting. On your CAS worksheet you can simply say you plan on walking 2km a day, but in your head and your heart it’s an epic quest for Pikachu.
3. Yoga: Yoga has numerous health benefits and is a great choice for those who don’t like exercise. Power yoga is an option for those who prefer a challenge, but beginner’s yoga isn’t too strenuous and can easily be done at home. Although a yoga mat is preferable, a lot of the moves can be done on the bed or just the floor. YouTube and the app store have thousands of free options, so there’s plenty to choose from, from 10 minutes to an hour. Half an hour before bed each day will have you finishing up your activity hours in no time!
4. Swimming in a public pool, lake or ocean: There are some public pools, but many pools require an entrance fee. The ocean does not. It’s not as easy to swim laps as in a pool, but it will do in a pinch.
5. A 30 day exercise challenge: The internet is full of 30 day exercise plans. Although they’re usually not an ideal fitness plan it will challenge your commitment, and you can get a month worth of CAS.
6.  Biking: Assuming you already have a bike, biking is a very cheap method of exercise, but very efficient. Biking to and from school will count, and if takes about 20 minutes back and forth a day, you’ll get 100 minutes in a school week. It’s regular exercise, and therefore it’s regular CAS.
7. Free apps: There’s an almost unlimited amount of exercise apps in the app store, and many of them are free. Try them out! Even a 7 minute exercise app can be useful. 49 minutes every week can be rounded up to 50 minutes, which is a great place to start if you’re new to CAS.
8. Dog walking: If you have your own dog, good for you! Take the adorable little pupper out for a walk. And if not, ask a neighbour if you can steal their dog take their dog for walks. Another case of regular exercise resulting in regular CAS hours.
9. Dance: Not all dancing has to be taught in class. Online you will find numerous tutorials for various dance styles, from belly dancing to hip hop. And if you choose to learn a dance style from another culture, like India’s kathak or the Latin samba you get to learn about other cultures and therefore be a global citizen (as the IBO likes to tell us to be).
10. Dance apps or games: This activity isn’t as focused on independent learning as the previous dance suggestion, but it works nonetheless. Games like DDR or Just Dance are found in many households, so you might already have access to them at home. Just Dance includes an exercise mode, so give it a go! And if you don’t have them, there’s always the free Just Dance app, which should do the trick, memes aside.
11. PlayStation or Wii games: Certainly not a cheap option if you don’t already have the consoles or games, but if you have Wii Sports or PlayStation 3 Sports Champions you have a great way to exercise without leaving your living room.
12. Self-defense: When you can’t afford to go to a self-defense class, we have the internet. Learning proper self-defense is sadly very important, but since it’s important to learn, why not learn it for CAS? Practice with a friend until you’re a ninja, or until you have 15 hours of activity completed.
13. Celebrity workout tape: You know the ones. It doesn’t necessarily have to be a Jane Fonda tape from the 80s which you recreate in a leotard, but then again, why not? You could use a random person’s workout tape, but I think Jane Fonda can be trusted (I mean she’s 80 and have you seen how good she looks?). Cheesy as celebrity workout tapes are, especially the ones from the 80s, there’s something special about them. Many of them can be found online, so give them a go, leotard or no!
14. Jump rope: Chances are you still have a jump rope lying around the house from when you were a kid. Rope jumping is actually very good exercise, so try to find your old toy again- it will come in handy!
15. Chair workouts: Fulfill your dream of becoming Britney Spears with some chair exercises. There’s no need to buy fancy equipment when you can just go to your kitchen instead.
16. Basketball: No need to join a team as long as you have a hoop at home. Many people still have a hoop over the garage door from when they were children, why not utilize them?
17. Join a school club: Of course, any club works, but most clubs will require an entry fee. School owned ones are unlikely to ask for one.
18. Hiking: Fresh air, breath-taking views, and all that crap.
19. Running competitions: 5k runs are frequently put on, why not join one?
20. Walk home: Is it cheating? Probably. But walking is activity, so why shouldn’t you take advantage of it? You don’t need to specify that you’re walking home, you can simply say a daily walk of x minutes.
21. Basic gymnastics or acrobatics: When I say basic, I mean basic. Somersaults, cartwheels, the works. It’s technically exercise, and you can say you’re doing acrobatics without going into further details.
22. Tree climbing: An alternative to rock climbing, only it’s free.
23. Use stockings as resistance bands: I honestly don’t know how well this works, but google said it works so it must be true.
24. Water gymnastics: Once again, doing things properly is overrated. Go to a pool and try to figure it out yourself, or with a friend. It may look ridiculous, but you’ll be trying. Another option is to do it some meters away from an ongoing class, because stealing exercise kinda works according to an episode of Will and Grace.
25. Badminton: When I say badminton, I don’t mean fancy professional badminton, I mean “get a gas station badminton racket and play in the park or your lawn”.
26. Foraging: Go look for mushrooms in a forest and keep track of how long you’ve been out and how long you’ve walked.
27. Orienteering: Although I personally despise orienteering with a violent passion, I have many friends who enjoy it, one who even does it for fun. Orienteering can be planned with friends, and can take place in a forest or a city.
28. Treasure hunt: Almost an extension of orienteering, you can plan a treasure hunt in a city or a forest. With the added element of the treasure hunt, there’s a case for creativity, and doing it in a group can work as a CAS project.
29. Frisbee: Frisbees are cheap and can be bought at a gas station, and work as a fun group activity.
30. Help the elderly: As you will see in the Service section, elderly neighbours might need some help cutting grass or shoveling snow. And as anyone who has ever shoveled snow knows, it’s a surprisingly efficient exercise.
31. Gym trial: Many gyms offer a free trial for a day or a week, or even a month, which is easy to take advantage of. Use the free days to their full extent, and if that isn’t enough, go to another gym chain and use their trial. Obviously this won’t be a long term thing, but if you work long, and not necessarily hard, 15 hours should be manageable.
32. Pilates: An alternative to yoga that works as well at home as at a gym.
33. PARKOUR: … don’t die.
 Service
1. Join Amnesty: Amnesty is an organization that raises awareness for a number of important issues, and often collect signatures for their causes. Be the one who hunts for signatures and watch the service hours roll in.
2. Join the Red Cross, or any other charitable organization: The Red Cross needs no introduction. It is perhaps the most famous charity in the world, and does a lot of good. However, there have been controversies surrounding it in the past, so if you want to support another charity instead, go for it! Find a charity that is important to you and the service hours will feel even sweeter.
3. Blood donation, or spreading awareness for it: Donating blood will often get you a small payment, and you can’t do it often, so it isn’t ideal for service. However, going to your local donation center and asking for pamphlets and sign up forms to bring to school or a stand at the mall is a great way to raise awareness and encourage other people to go donate blood. It’s one of those things people talk about doing but always put off, so be the person that changes their mind-set!
4. Helping out at school events: School discos, bake sales, or bazaars always need volunteers, and it’s a great way to get many hours done at once. Contact the PTA at your school or other schools in the area and see when upcoming events are taking place and you’ll easily get at least 15 hours of service done. If you really phrase things well you might even be able to get some creativity hours.
5. Dog walking: Expanding on the point in Action, you can walk other people’s dogs as service. Ask a neighbour if they need help, or post an ad at the grocery store. Service hours and spending time with dogs, what more could you want?
6. Volunteer at an animal shelter: Like the previous point, this really is just a great excuse to hang out with animals. Check the local shelter to see if they need any helpers!
7. Volunteering at a senior center: Senior centers are always in need of more hands. Whether it’s cleaning the resident’s rooms, walking with them or just making sure they have some company, there will always be something the center will need help with.
8. Volunteering at a hospital: Not all hospitals allow untrained volunteers, but some hospitals do. If you volunteer at a hospital you will not perform the duties of a nurse, but instead simply provide some company for the people staying there.
9. Homeless shelter: Homeless shelters always need more volunteers. There’s a variety of roles you can fill, from handing out food to collecting donations. No matter what it is you do, it will have a great impact on the people who rely on the shelters.
10. Make a PSA video: As mentioned in the Creativity section, making a PSA video is a great idea for a CAS project as it combines creativity and service, and results in lots of hours.
11. Bake sales: Baking yourself will obviously cost a bit, but most ingredients can probably already be found in your home. Set up a stand in the school corridor, and find a charity to donate the profits to.
12. Volunteer at a library: Most libraries have a variety of volunteer opportunities, from tutoring children to teaching seniors how to use technology. Go to your local library and see what volunteer programs they have!
13. Shoveling snow: Winter doesn’t treat people who live in cold places well. In case of snow you might have several neighbours struggling to clear the snow from their lot. Offer them a hand and feel the CAS hours piling up!
14. Cutting grass: Like shoveling snow, cutting grass is something people need to get done, but it’s backbreaking and time consuming. Go around the neighbourhood and see if anyone needs any help with it!
15. Assisting elderly neighbours: If you have any elderly neighbours, offer to do chores for them, like cleaning and cooking. They’ll be sure to appreciate it, and it can get you semi regular CAS hours.
16. Car washing: No, this does not have to include a red bikini, but it does give you two options: either offer to wash cars for free as service, or to set a price so you can give the profits to charity. All you need is a sponge and some water, so get scrubbing!
17. Scouts: Most scout groups require a member fee, so it’s not ideal to become a scout if you aren’t one. However, if you’re already a member, being a scout leader will get you many, many hours, so take advantage of it!
18. Student union: Student unions work hard, and can therefore get you many hours. There will be a wide range of activities to organize and participate in, so you’ll have some much needed variety.
19. Prom committee: If you’re not interested in joining the student union, there may be some committees that are separate from the union. Prom committees, graduation committees, etc., are all great options that can get you plenty of hours.
20. Babysitting: Give your neighbours a night off by offering to babysit for free. Remember, it doesn’t count as service if you get paid, so make sure the only money you get is to pay for dinner.
21. Tutoring: Some schools have study halls, or a homework club, aka after school homework help for the younger kids. And if your school doesn’t offer it already, ask if you can start it. It’ll be a chance for you to tutor younger kids, and if nobody shows up and wants your help, so what? You offered the service, and even if no one came, the hours count.
22. Start a club: Being a member of a club will get you creativity hours, starting one will get you both. Do it with a friend and you’ve got a CAS project.
23. Join a big brother/big sister organization: There are several of these organizations going around, and a popular one in the US is bbbs.org, which states that their mission is to “Provide children facing adversity with strong and enduring, professionally supported one-to-one relationships that change their lives for the better, forever.” A noble cause for sure, and one which your CAS coordinator will adore. It will tick most outcome boxes, and you will gain something from it too.
24. Volunteer in a political campaign: If there are any elections happening in your country soon, get involved for the good of your community, and your CAS hours!
25. Volunteer at a hotline: Many countries have crisis hotlines that often need more volunteers, why not help out?
26. Start Kiva team: kiva.org is a great website that revolves around microloans. It has the option to make or join teams of lenders. Make a team and try to gain members, spread awareness and get donations to lend money to people in need around the world. As they are loans, you get money back in kiva credit which you can then donate to someone new, thus creating a circle of good. Team meetings to decide which individuals, countries or field partners to donate to next will get you many CAS hours.
27. Plan an athletic event for charity: Whether it be a 5k, orienteering, a treasure hunt (all as mentioned in the activity section), or anything else you can think of, it’s a great way to involve a community, and any entrance fee can be donated to charity. By participating yourself, you can tick all three CAS boxes, and doing it with one or more people makes it a great CAS project.
28. Writing letters to soldiers: This may not be an option everywhere, but some countries have organizations where you can write letters to the soldiers overseas who don’t have anyone writing to them, which is sure to be a morale booster.
29. Host a free workshop: Workshops are a great way to learn new skills, or to teach your skills. Maybe you can teach something you learned from/for your creativity hours!
30. Neighbourhood watch: Neighbourhood watches are a great way to help ensure safety in your local area, so either join one or start one.
31. Volunteer to help immigrants and/or refugees: There are many organizations that work to help immigrants and refugees become integrated in society, whether it be activities for children or events to help newly arrived people learn the local language. Look up any local organizations and see if they’re looking for volunteers!
32. Park maintenance: Many parks need help with a lot of maintenance, from cleaning to repainting benches. Contact whoever is in charge and see if they need any volunteers.
33. Studyblr: Coming up with 99 free CAS ideas is surprisingly time consuming, and so is everything else about a studyblr, so give it a go and get those hours!

1. drink - well, currently drinking coffee
2. phone call - i… rarely call people, only those who aren’t into chatting (although my father loves what’s app). Probably my father?
3. text message - a friend, probably.
4. song you listened to – i have no idea. Maybe a Person of Interest soundtrack when i’m fed up with the news radio in the car?
5. time you cried – no idea.
6. dated someone twice - nope.
7. kissed someone & regretted it - i don’t like kissing… well, not with the mouth slug. i suppose that’s what is meant here?
8. been cheated on – not that i know of, but hey. Who knows ;-)
9. lost someone special – yes. Depends on what you call lost (death? love or friendship breakup? something else?), but yes.
10. been depressed - i am not a happy sunshine person as a rule and oscillate between The Pits and the valley.
11. gotten drunk & thrown up – i think it happened once in my life?
fave colors
12. all
13. are
14. good
the last year have you…
15. made new friends – i guess so, yes. Depends on what you call friends, does it have to include flesh & blood meetups?
16. fallen out of love – not really
17. laughed until you cried – nope
18. found out someone was talking about you – er, i assume it happens when i do something egregious, ridiculous, etc.
19. met someone who changed you – i… don’t think so?
20. found out who your friends are – not really?
21. kissed someone on your facebook friends list – ewww
general
22. how many of your Facebook friends do you know in irl – i used to only friend people i already knew, and then sort them in lists so like only the closest one could see my posts, etc. Now i don’t even check my wall (is it still called a wall?) anymore.
23. do you have any pets – nope. If it’s alive, i’m probably allergic; and i don’t feel up to caring for another living thing anyway. Family dog died last year, and the new dog my dad adopted is… not up to par.
24. do you want to change your name – not really? i am indifferent. It’s neither good enough or bad enough to have any feelings about it.
25. what did you do for your last birthday – nothing.
26. what time did you wake up today – 8am. But that changes everyday, and since it’s the “general” section, can be 6am, can be 10am. Or earlier / later in special circumstances.
27. what were you doing at midnight last night – reading a fic.
28. what is something you can’t wait for – nothing in particular.
29. what are you listening to right now – THE SOUND OF SILENCE - no, not the song. And, sadly, street noises.

35. do you have a crush on someone – nope
36. what do you like about yourself – let’s not go there, k?
37. want any (more) piercings? – i have none, and don’t plan on any.
38. blood type - AB+, aka vampire: gimme your blood, and i won’t share.
39. nicknames – none. i’m a boring person. Unless titC counts?
40. relationship status – single. 41. zodiac - aries
42. pronouns - female ones, mostly out of habit. But i truly do not care & sometimes use male / neutral ones, and i welcome any. i do not feel particularly gendered, but have grown used and more or less comfortable with what i look like, aka a woman. i am lucky in that i do not feel much of anything about it anymore.
43. fave tv shows – many? current ones, past ones?
44. tattoos – no.
45. right or left handed - i sometimes say i’m ambisenestrous, but i’m mostly a righty. Except for things i do as a lefty. But i’m not very dexterous with the right one, and can do most things - albeit more clumsily or slowly - with the left one too. It’s like gender, really: i am used to being a righty, but if i’d grown up in a left-handed society and a pen had first been put in my left hand rather than the right, it probably wouldn’t have mattered much.
46. ever had surgery – a couple, nothing big.

57. career – big word.
which is better
58. hugs or kisses – hugs, i guess?
59. lips or eyes – ...? on others? on me? in general?
60. shorter or taller – i don’t know?
61. older or younger  – am i supposed to choose?
62. nice arms or stomach – can’t i have several nice things ;-)

65. kissed a stranger – i don’t like kissing in general, and wouldn’t that be assault anyway?
66. drank hard liquor – sure.

70. broken someone’s heart – i suppose i should say yes. They were more into the person they thought i was than who i was, and i thought long and hard (too long) about how to just put an end to it.
71. had your heart broken – not really. More of the “damn didn’t i follow the rules? damn, i tried hard, wtf did i do wrong again? *angst*” which… wasn’t really having my heart broken, more of an identity crisis. Yes, i’m self-centered.

Lost Episodes? Well, You Better Go Find Them!
Ever browse through the internet looking for the lost ideas that never made it air? Have you gone to conventions just to hear the insight on what the show staff left out? Are you already on board thus defeating the purpose of me giving a third example?
As a fan who enjoys the occasional interview, commentary, or behind-the-scenes tid-bit, that describes me pretty well.
I always like hearing the stories we could’ve gotten. To me, there’s an element of intrigue, and the same feeling I get hearing urban legends except with the confirmation that this was in fact true information.
This month we saw the revival of the script for Fame and Misfortune, a story M.A. Larson wrote around the time the staff was writing the 5th season that was then retooled and edited to fit with the current season. In honour of that lost script getting new life, I thought I’d go through and find all the coolest lost content MLP never had to offer!
Of course, to super fans, this may not be new information (I don’t have access to the pony version of the deep web quite yet...), but hopefully there will be some surprises in here for even those who seek out the lost and unknown...
Honourable Mention Section
Tumblr media
Debunked Nightmare Moon the Villain for ALL of Season 1: This has since been corrected by Lauren Faust, but the original rumour was that Faust planned for the show to be a serialized, on-going story, and that instead of being defeated in the first two episodes, Nightmare Moon was supposed to reign over Equestria for all 26 episodes. We now know Lauren always planned for the show to be an ensemble comedy, but it was a very cool rumour nonetheless - Source (x)
Lost Pinkie Pie Songs by Amy Keating Rogers: In the Season 1 finale The Best Night Ever, Amy Keating Rogers says Pinkie was meant to sing a few more songs that she wrote for her. These would’ve been the standard early seasons Pinkie songs, one being called the Pinkie Conga - Source: (x)
The Hub Commercials: While not exactly lost (and hence not on the list), new fans of the show might not have been around before the switch from the Hub to Discovery Family, and have no idea about these hidden gems. These relics include, but aren’t limited to an April Fools series trailer for a Cowboy BeBop inspired Spike spinoff called Dragonfire, a dub of the 2014 Maleficent trailer by the official cast with Discord as Maleficent, and a parody of Kay Perry’s California Girls called Equestria Girls that predates the series of the same name!
3 Scootaloo Episodes Dealing with her Disability in the First 2 Seasons: Since we ended up getting an episode that dealt with this topic in the form of Flight to the Finish, this didn’t quite make the list, but it almost did based on the fact that was originally supposed to be an arc. Scootaloo would’ve taken 3 episodes to learn that she would never fly and achieve her dream of being like Rainbow Dash, according to Lauren Faust, but ultimately, the little squirt would learn her real worth didn’t depend on her wings or abilities - Source: (x)
Lightning Dust’s Redemption: Anybody out there holding out for hope for Lightning Dust? What if I told you she could’ve already been redeemed? Well, it’s true. Our good friend Megan McCarthy released two portions of the original ending on her Twitter, including one where Lightning Dust become Rainbow Dash’s wing pony (Source: x):
Tumblr media
Derpy’s Deleted Flashback Scene, The Last Roundup: Remember how people got mad about Derpy’s voice and clumsy behaviour? Well that was nothing compared to the destruction they had planned. Originally, there was going to be a flashback to Derpy accidentally destroying the town hall, thus giving the episode an inciting incident. Amy Keating Rogers let us in on the original scene (Source: x x), and well, it wouldn’t have ended pretty:

With those out of the way, let’s get to the real list of unreleased goodness! Remember, all of these have been confirmed, and you can check the sources as they’re provided for proof.
#10. Lauren Faust’s Big Mac Episode
Tumblr media
Imagine a timeline where we got a Big Mac episode in season 1. Now imagine that was going to be our timeline.
Lauren Faust originally planned to have an episode starring Big Mac that featured the then monosyllabic stallion going through his daily life with his three outspoken family members. She’s described it on her Deviantart thusly:
“Big Mac is a stallion of little words. He just keeps his opinions to himself. I think he knows he's around three opinionated mares and it's easiest to just go with the flow. We had a Big Mac centered episode idea where he was helping all three of them one day, just going along with what they wanted to keep the peace (the running gag being that his three family members were quite verbose and he spoke only with facial expressions) but finally got fed up and took off. The Apple ladies worried that they had taken his easy going nature for granted and made a big production out of apologizing and promising not to take him for granted ever again, only to find out that he went into town to get another hand- er, hoof- to help. Of course the only words he'd say were to graciously accept their apologies and promises anyway. I thought it was cute and I LOVE non-verbal gags and acting in cartoons, but it was turned down.” - Source: (x)
We clearly never got the episode, but MLP comics issues #9 and 10, Zen and the Art of Gazebo Repair, did end up following Big Mac through a chaotic day and relying mostly on his expression to get across his feelings. Whether this mini-arc was inspired by the lost episode, we may never know, but we got a good story out of it all the same. Eeyup.
#9. Rainbow and Applejack Help a Deer Family Episode
Tumblr media
Once again, Lauren Faust provides! Since working on the show, Faust has said that one of the early episode concepts involved Rainbow Dash and Applejack stumbling across a deer family with a young pony who thought he was a deer. Perhaps cut for its similarities to Over a Barrel, the episode’s conflict would’ve centered around RD and AJ taking sides of the issue on whether or not to burst the “deer’s” bubble.
Ironically, Applejack and Rainbow Dash took surprising positions on the issue, given their Elements: Rainbow Dash wanted to break the news to the pony, whereas Applejack wanted to leave well enough alone.
Jokes about their Elements being switched aside, I would imagine this episode would’ve established the depth of their characters outside of their roles as the Elements of Harmony. Rainbow Dash would rather speak her mind and be blunt and deal with the consequences afterward despite her loyalty, and Applejack would rather tell a lie if it meant keeping a family together.
In my opinion, this most likely would’ve set precedent that even the each of the Mane 6′s Elements have areas of exception, and those areas reveal something about each pony.
And, if all that wasn’t cool enough for you, this episode also took place in White Tail Woods, which is where it got the name that stuck with the show despite the episode concept being lost. You can still find White Tail Woods on the official map to this day.

#8. The Curious Case of FlutterDragon
Tumblr media
Here’s a famous one, but a fascinating one: Normally during conventions like Comic Con or BronyCon, when a voice actor gives out information on an upcoming season, it’s pretty reliable (unless it’s obviously a joke).
So, the Comic Con before season 3 rolled around, and as usual, we were getting a lot great information on the upcoming season. Trixie would be returning? There would be a Twilight and Spike duet? Score! One piece of information that stood out, however, was from Tabitha St. Germain, who as you most likely know voices Rarity and Luna.
She said that her favourite recording session was for the episode that “Fluttershy turns into a dragon.”
Not the episode where Fluttershy faces a dragon or anything like that that had already aired.
Megan McCarthy eventually had to debunk this theory via Twitter, but I kept this on the list because it came from an official source all the same. A recording session that never made it to air that, to this day, hasn’t been explained? Now that’s mysterious.
I have to wonder if that was a warm-up of some sort, just to get the voice actresses in character. Of all the staff members, Tabitha is one of the least likely to just troll the fandom, so I still have to believe she was truly referencing something. Even Andrea Libman, Fluttershy herself, seemed to know what she was talking about as Tabitha described it being funny hearing Fluttershy’s soft voice coming out of a giant dragon.
The story behind this pick alone is enough to make me wonder...

#7. Rarity’s Deleted Scene in Luna Eclipsed
Tumblr media
Have you ever noticed that there’s one pony missing in Luna Eclipsed?
Well, Rarity originally had a scene that explains her absence. Lauren Faust to the rescue again!:
“...May I ask why Rarity wasn't in it? Lauren: She was in the script. Sounds like she got cut. Kitmit: What was she supposed to do in the script? You think she would of made herself some fabulous nightmare night costume... Lauren: She was still working on her costume, and perfectionist as she is, it wasn't ready. (I forget what it was.) There was a whole sequence where Twilight brought Luna to Rarity's for a makeover, hoping she could give Luna a "softer," less intimidating look. Rarity freaked out about getting to dress up a Princess and over did it, covering her in the pinkiest pink princess get up ever. Luna disliked it and in taking it off, had a piece of the dress in her mouth. Pinkie showed up just at that moment and screamed that Nightmare Moon ate a princess and all the kids screamed and ran. Source - (x)
Rarity’s over-dramatics most likely would’ve made this scene hilarious had it made it to the final cut, and honestly, that’s all I need to say. Tabitha St. Germain might’ve spread the FlutterDragon rumour by accident, but she’s one hell of a comedic voice actress, and her playing off of herself and Tara Strong for a scene could’ve been a stellar performance.
At least we know where Rarity was the whole time now... and judging by Scare Master, she learned her lesson and just went with something less than utter perfection the year after. Does that count as character development?
#6. Zecora’s Mentor Role
Tumblr media
This might be common knowledge for hardcore fans as well, but in hindsight it’s such a loss that it deserves it’s own spot.
Zecora has become critically underutilized, especially in later seasons, but that wasn’t always meant to be the case. Zecora was originally meant to fill the mentor role in Twilight’s life while Celestia was busy in Canterlot. Of course, Twilight would still write to Celestia for guidance, but Faust also said:
“If we had penned more adventure stories, the only difference I can think of is that perhaps you would have seen more of Luna and Zecora.  Zecora was designed to be a sage and mentor to whom the ponies could go for information about their quests. She was designed to be a second mentor to Twilight, but that didn’t come to pass.”  Source: (x)
We can see bits of this throughout the series, though, in episodes like Secret of My Excess, The Cutie Pox, and Magic Duel.
If she were Twilight’s second mentor, it might have even been interesting to have a conflict between Zecora and Celestia about some kind of magic, leaving Twilight in the middle to struggle with the fact that both of the authority figures might not be teaching her the right solution, and it’s up to her to decide. Just some speculation, based on where Twilight’s character would’ve been at the time...
Perhaps Zecora’s role can be reclaimed in the future, as she’s included in more episodes to come. But for now, we can only think of what might’ve been.
#5. Sunset’s Duet, Homesickness Storyline, and Alternate Ending to Friendship Games
Tumblr media
Okay, so this is definitely well known, but given just how well-constructed and nearly finalized this story-arc was, I couldn’t leave it off the list! Plus, something something Sunset Shimmer bias.
Thanks to the Friendship Games DVD extras, you can watch all the deleted scenes, including the duet, over here if you’ve never seen them:
youtube
youtube
I always found the parallels drawn so satisfying, even if the alternate ending had Sci-Twi leaving for Crystal Prep.
In hindsight, what’s even more interesting is that they’ve seemed to go in the opposite direction with Sunset: when she finally did return to Equestria, it was rather reluctantly, and only briefly. Despite the fact that she has friends and an ex-mentor on the other side, she seems to be eager to stay in the human world.
Or, maybe she’s avoiding somepony...
Seeing how completely opposite things could’ve turned out is fascinating in and of itself.
#4. Lost Slice of Life Gags
Tumblr media
How could that episode get any crazier? Slice of Life is already the epitome of our absolutely wild fandom, what more could there be?
Well, of course, M.A. Larson does not disappoint for this list, providing some insight into missing scenes like a Devil Went Down to Georgia inspired cello battle between Octavia and King Sombra.
In fact, there’s a whole list of cuts:
“In the first draft Vinyl Scratch's talked, but they told him she doesn't talk, so it was removed in phase 2.
The original Vinyl Scratch and Octavia scene involved Vinyl crashing at Octavia's house and destroying her sofa. So she goes to Quills and Sofas to buy a new one. They weren't originally roommates, but The Hub and Hasbro made them roommates.
Flash Sentry was originally in the script. He was following Cranky asking why no one likes him.
Another cut scene was a group of ponies coming in, and a group of their recolor ponies running into them, followed by awkwardness.
His original reason for not wanting to bowl, was because he had trauma as a kid where he couldn't figure out the physics behind it, which lead to his science focused career.
Outside of episode 100, there was originally a cut scene where after Twilight is coronated, Rainbow Dash and her fly around Equestria, eventually ending up in dragonland where they do a musical scene. There was a scene where Derpy is saying "I don't know what to do doc! I don't know what to do!" and the camera pans over to reveal Dr. Caballeron, revealing Derpy at the wrong table with the wrong doctor.  Gags like this were throughout the entire original script.
After everyone is gone and in the town hall, the bat ponies and royal guards are outside doing silly impressions of Princess Luna and Celestia. "Every day shall be cake day!".
At one point, Lyra tells Bonbon to "stop using that ridiculous voice!" to make fun of her other voices.
In the script, Gummy had a french accent.
There was a moment where Doctor Whooves is running up to Carousel Boutique, and he sees Opal and Tom.
A scene between Coco Pommel and the pony from season one in Boast Busters with the green mane that Rarity accidently insults was cut. She had a full green wedding ensemble on with Coco's stamp of approval, and said she couldn't wait until Rarity saw it as revenge. Coco Pommel then says she doesn't really like green, and asks for anything in pink.
The original ending had the hugging scene with the mane 6 being their usual end-of-episode corny selves, but the camera pans to the sunset where a changeling army is flying in...”
Source: (x)
This episode went through a lot of research and development to get just right, and even I would’ve loved to see all of that be left in, we ultimately only have so much run-time per episode.
But if that weren’t enough to convince of why I admire M.A. Larson as a writer...
#3. Fillidelphia Ragtime
Tumblr media
I suppose you might be wondering how a single undeveloped episode idea can beat out all that Slice of Life goodness.
Well, it comes down to structure, adult (but nowhere near too adult) implications, and a really intriguing idea.
I’ll let Larson make the pitch himself:
youtube
(55:24-57:50)
Larson pretty much immediately sold me on this. I think because there’s a part of me that loves implying the maturity of these characters without going into it for the kids sake, and honestly, it would be so much damn fun.
This episode was never meant to be, it seems, but damn is it ever a good premise.
2.5. Twilight Nearly Resigns From Being a Princess
Note: I stumbled on this one late in the game and instead of bumping something off the list, I decided to cheat and give you all an extra pick. I’m a stinker that way.
We know Twilight wasn’t always so sure about herself as the Princess of Friendship, but did you know she almost gave it up?
“In "Amending Fences," Twilight is at her lowest low and goes to visit Celestia in the middle of the night. She tells her mentor that she has to give up her role as princess of friendship because of how her past actions have affected Moondancer. She says, "How can I tell others about the magic of friendship if I've killed that spirit in somepony else?" Celestia then surprises her by saying that the lesson Twilight is in Canterlot to learn is one that she herself has only recently learned. Twilight is surprised...Celestia knows everything about everything. But Celestia looks out the window at the moon and says, "Some relationships are so broken, so filled with bitterness and anger that they seem impossible to mend. But the lesson you're here to learn now is that it's never too late to repair a broken friendship." So Celestia uses her own experience, her gradual rebuilding of trust and friendship with her own sister, to tell Twilight that everyone goes through it. This gives Twilight the hope that she can fix things with Moondancer. I thought it was a nice scene, but you only have 22 minutes and this was an easy cut.”
Source: (x)
Easy cut my ass! That’s a huge deal! Twilight would’ve come through in the end anyway, but it’s still interesting to know how close she could’ve come to giving it all up...
#2. Seapony Two-Parter
Tumblr media
Seaponies? In G4? Don’t be ridiculous....
But it was true. One of Lauren Faust’s ideas at that. She would’ve designed them after the sea ponies of the first generation, with a plot sounding preeetty darn cool:
“Hasbro never asked for seaponies, but other ideas that had nothing to do with them. Lauren was hoping for a two-episode special so that she could have the proper build up and payoff for the seaponies, but the idea never came up. Lauren planned for the style of the seaponies to be the same as G1 with seapony bodies and pony heads. While Lauren didn't have the seaponies in her show bible, she had a plan for incorporating them. The episodes included one of the seaponies washing up on the Equestrian beach and begging for their kingdom to be helped. Their kingdom would be in the Equestrian Ocean, drawing inspiration from Greek and European mythology. She even thought about using the Kraken as a villain.” Source: (x)
Undersea shenanigans and the chance to make a genuinely terrifying sea monster the villain sounds perfect, to be honest. This may not have fit within the schedule for the first two seasons Lauren helped work on, but lo and behold, we’re finally getting around to the fish-horses one way or another! I find it hilarious that in G4, they’re almost majestic and carry with them some sort of epic quest for the girls.
Shoo-be-doo, indeed.
#1. The Series Finale Version of Magical Mystery Cure
Tumblr media
After all this time, Magical Mystery Cure holds up in some regards (Celestia’s Ballad is gorgeous no matter what, the animation is beautiful, etc.) but good pacing, it was doomed to never have. Writer M.A. Larson asked the studio execs if they could make it a two-parter, because at the time this was going to be it, they really didn’t know if the show would be renewed. Buut Hasbro said no, so a two-part story had to be crammed into a single episode.
Even with that aside, what was the series finale of MLP going to be like?
Larson recalls that his original script was more a Pandora’s box story than anything else. Celesita sent Twilight a box and, by letter, told her student to wait for her to get there to go over the high level magic inside. Celestia’s mistake was telling Twilight this would lead to a new level of her studies.
Twilight, of course, couldn’t handle waiting to see the amazing magic within, and just like Friendship Games, her curiosity would’ve gotten the better of her. Which, of course, is when she would’ve unleashed the cutie mark swapping spell.
Celestia would then send Twilight a letter that just read My faithful student, what have you done?
To imply that even Celestia herself couldn’t handle this.
In both versions of Magical Mystery Cure, our favourite reader becomes an author of a spell, but in Larson’s story it’s a bit more clear as to what exactly Twilight’s spell does.
Twilight wasn’t just finishing a spell to create new magic (which... only seems to undo what the first part of the spell does), she was rewriting a spell that was already in existence. The words even rearranged on the page for her.
Granted, I like the idea of Twilight standing on the shoulders of giants to earn her wings (finishing Starswirl’s spell) but what a way to end the series: with the book that opened in the first episode closing, implying that Twilight and her friends became legends.
But, in the end, I’m glad we didn’t get that version of Magical Mystery Cure, because what we did get, and what came after, was worth anything that was lost.

15 Colleges With the Best Dorms in 2019
https://ift.tt/2S9coka
Tumblr media
Scripps College
Moving away from home for the first time is scary enough on its own, but throw in a cramped, rank, and dank dorm room you’ve got to share with someone else, and well, it’s enough to make dampen anyone’s excitement about college life. But that doesn’t mean that’s universally the case—there are actually a handful of campuses with dorms that feel more like palaces than haunted shoe boxes.
There are even some college dorm rooms so nice, I’d happily trade in my NYC apartment for one. So whether you’re curious as to how the kids are living these days on campus, you’re a proud alum hoping your former home made the cut, or you’re beginning the college admissions process, you’ll want to browse through our list of the fifteen nicest college dorms. From pools and aquariums to a cleaning service, these are the best of the best in the U.S. (at least student housing-wise).
Advertisement – Continue Reading Below
1
MIT
In addition to the many lounges, multi-purpose room with a giant projection screen, and the best dining hall on campus, Simmons Hall also has a ball pit. Where do we sign up? Ah, that’s right, the common app, and there is literally a 7.81 precent acceptance rate at MIT… So on second thought, I’ll probably just camp out here at my desk. Do take a dive in the ball pit for me, though!
2
Scripps College
Gabrielle Jungels-Winkler Hall houses Scripps College students in a 1920’s Mediterranean-style building. That living room is about as nice as it gets in a dream home, let alone a college campus.
3
Bryn Mawr College
Gothic and gorgeous but also a little creepy and very, very old, the dorms at Bryn Mawr College are especially well-suited for Halloween enthusiasts (me!). Some rooms even still have the original 1800s fireplaces and window seats, aka, the dream study spot.
4
Oberlin College
Aside from the standard first-year residences, Oberlin also offers housing options built around communities and lifestyles. This includes from language-based houses to healthy living and identity -based houses. With trained resident assistants, specific community creeds and intentions, and organized experiences, it’s so much more than just a place to sleep at night.
5
Yale University
Oh, you think this might be an Ivy League dorm? What made you think that? Pictured here is one of the common rooms in a residence of Yale University’s Davenport College (honestly, the Yale residential college system/concept/less-fun-version-of-Hogwarts’-sorting-hat-tradition is far too complicated for me to explain let alone understand, which is probably why I didn’t go to Yale). Anyway, it’s as nice as it looks and fabulously gothic from the outside.
6
Florida Gulf Coast University
Luxury retirement home, fancy sleep away camp, or public university? The college’s North Lake Village lets students feel like they’re permanently on vacation. Not only is the housing waterfront (!), but it also features fire pits, hammocks, and a sand volleyball court.
7
Washington University in St. Louis
WashU organizes student housing sections by year, so underclassmen live on the south west side of the Danforth campus in one of its ten residences. Not only do these dorms have personal bathrooms (a luxury most college freshmen will never know), but they also have a cleaning staff for them (another even more luxurious perk you probably shouldn’t get too used to). Less time cleaning = more time studying… It’s all a ruse.
8
Stanford University
Considering that Stanford raised over a million dollars in 2018, you’d better believe the dorm rooms are nicer than average. Some are more modern while others boast historied Spanish-style facades that will motivate you to keep working very, very hard, if only to have your own someday.
9
The University of Texas
The Callaway House at UT has an actual rooftop pool. We’re not entirely sure how any actual studying gets accomplished when you live here. And, when you are studying, you can do so in the warm sunshine.
10
Pomona College
As if we didn’t already want to move to the Claremont McKenna campus after seeing Scripps, here’s another charmer just a stone’s throw away. At Pomona College, many of the dorm rooms have AC (some of us, like yours truly, were stuck with hand-held fans) and a whole lot of space. In some of the dorms, you’ll find a grand piano in the common area (could be a blessing or a curse, depending on your hall mates), plus a kitchen and a tv room. Two of the newest buildings, Dialynas and Sontag Halls, even have a rooftop garden and are built to LEED standards.
11
Brandeis
Want to live in an actual castle? Brandeis’s Usen Hall will be your happily ever after. We weren’t kidding when we said some of these dorms were nicer than a palace.
12
University of Cincinnati
Moregens Hall recently underwent at $35 million renovation, and the end result included kitchens inside each apartment, individual heating and air conditioning, and floor-to-ceiling windows. Now you can people watch from the comfort of your desk.
13
Temple University
Not only does Morgan Hall have a terrace, but it also has a flat screen TV in each deluxe apartment. So if you were worried about falling behind on all your shows when you went away to school, you can now breathe easy.
14
St. Leo University
If you can score living in Apartment 5, this is where it’s at. A lease there comes with an unlimited meal plan (so no cooking unless you want to), and the hall features a 2,100-gallon aquarium. If you’re a little confused, same. But let’s save the probing questions for lecture.
15
Bowdoin
In addition to standard dorm rooms and apartments, students can apply to live in one of the eight “College Houses.” One theme runs true throughout all of the living options: they are seriously spacious but also boast that quaint New England charm that lured you to the Northeast liberal arts campus in the first place.

Artifact 1: Face-to-face Interview with a Public/ Private School Teacher
I.  PRE-INTERVIEW (Preliminary Questions)
Tumblr media
1. About the Teacher (a. educational background, b. years of teaching and c. previous teaching experiences) :
She is Ms. Hazel Grace C. Abugue. Her students call her Teacher Hazel.
She is 29 years old. She’s currently teaching @ Naga Central I as a Grade 2 teacher. She studied at Universidad de Santa Isabel ever since kindergarten until her college. She graduated college with the course of BSE SPED around 2010. At first, after she graduated, she didn’t find a stable job yet as a full-time teacher. Before committing to teach at an elementary school, she was a tutor to students on some tutorial center(s) Ms. Abugue was a licensed and a full-time teacher on February 21, 2013. She first taught at Naga Central School I. Ever since she was employed to teach there, she remained loyal to the school that she is currently teaching up to this day. She teacher in the Grade 2 sections nowadays.
 II. INTERVIEW PROPER
A.     On Instruction
1.       How would you characterize your students?
-          Ms. Abugue describes that each of her students have different characteristics, of course. She explains that there are students who are eager to learn, barely need help to understand a lesson, the noisy ones, the slouchy ones, etc. These kids are still developing so she sees to monitor them so that she could understand her students.
 2.       Describe your teaching style.
-          Personally, I forgot to ask her what subject she is teaching.  But anyways, her teaching style is to get the attention of the students and to listen to the lesson. She sees to it that everyone in her class is paying attention otherwise the flow of the lesson will be disrupted if there is certain noises at class.
 3.       How do you prepare your lesson? How often?
-          She prepares her lesson usually days ahead. Cramming lessons isn’t part of her usual preparations but at some days when a part of her other business conflicts with her job, that’s when preparing late is a choice.
 4.       How do you usually start your lesson?
-          She starts her lesson by giving a recap of the last lesson or the thing that they did during the previous meeting.
 5.       How do you manage your class? What routines and procedures do you use to keep the class organized?
-      Her daily routine in her classes is simple. She simply recaps her past lesson every time. If not, she conducts seatworks or quizzes when the lesson last time was already accomplished. After that, she usually introduces another lesson/topic which lasts until the end of her subject. She normally gives assignments.
 6.   What instructional materials do you usually use? What do you
consider in the selection and preparation of such instructional
materials?
     - She uses the blackboard as an instructional material and when there are pictures to be included, she sticks them to a manila paper or kartolina since the school hasn’t been installing a projector yet…
 7.  What particular strategies/ activities do you employ to ensure
students’ learning?
-   To ensure her student’s learning she does application activities on recitations so that she can learn the results of her assessment and evaluate it for improvement of her strategies in teaching.
 8.  How will you know if the students are learning?
-  Usually during quizzes, tests or on how interested they are in paying attention to the lesson.
 9. How do you end your lesson? How do you transition from teaching to
assessment?
-          She doesn’t rush her student to take a test after a lesson that day of teaching
that lesson. Giving assignments to study or to answer a seatwork from the book is how she ends her lesson but she doesn’t give assignments too often.
 B.      Interview Proper
1. What do you think is the relationship/link between assessment and instruction?
-  The ultimate purpose of assessment to her is improvement in students' learning therefore, assessment must be linked with learning and find out the need improvement areas.
 2. What do you consider in doing assessment in your class? Why?
- Asking students to demonstrate their understanding of the subject matter is critical to the learning process; it is essential to evaluate whether the educational goals and standards of the lessons are being met.
 3. How often do you assess your students?
- Everyday at class.
 4. In what ways do you assess and evaluate students?
     - Through the different types of Assessment she is able to evaluate her student’s learning…
 5. How do you develop your pen-and-paper test?
     - It usually stems from being easy at first then difficult at last.
 6.       How do you develop your other assessment tools?
-          By checking out different techniques from the internet/teaching books on what could be other assessment tools that can help it develop.
 7. If most of the students in your class failed in assignment, test or project, how would you respond?
     - It’s either she would re-evaluate on how she taught the lesson and if there’s something wrong with her teaching, she would obviously re-teach it for them.
 8.       Which do you give more often, individual or collaborative assessment?
- At her situation now, she gives the individual assessment to her students.
 9.       What action do you make after you assess the students?
- She asks questions to her student about the assessment. For short, evaluating.
 10. What kind of performance tasks do you usually give?
     - It depends on what she thinks is fun for them to do as a Performance task that they will do at home, etc.
 11. How can you assure the assessment you give is appropriate to all of
your students?
- She knows her craft at teaching but sometimes she makes re-assurances of her assessments to her co-teacher/s.
 12. How do you communicate the assessment data to stakeholders like
learners, parents and other school officials?
- Whenever the PTA is near, that is the time where the preparation is being made so that when the stakeholders asks her question/s, she is fully prepared to discuss well.
 13. What is the importance of assessment to teachers? to students?
- Assessment plays a major role in how students learn, their motivation to learn, and how teachers teach. Assessment for learning: where assessment helps teachers gain insight into what students understand in order to plan and guide instruction, and provide helpful feedback to students.
III.  POST-INTERVIEW
1.       Does giving feedback to the students actually help them improve based on your observation?
-   Improving students’ performance involves constantly monitoring and responding to them, so that they know what is expected of them and they get feedback after completing tasks. They can improve their performance through your constructive feedback.
2.       How do you motivate your students?
-          Using praise and positive language is what she does to motivate her students from learning well at class.
 3.       Do you still give assignments?
-          She’s not the type of teacher who gives assignments every day in an elementary school rather usually announce the assignment every Friday.
 4.       How do you manage both the fast and slow learners?
-          On her opinion, there is no such thing as slow/weak learners and fast/strong learners. She believes each child should be dealt differently as each individual is different than the other. It is crucial that the teacher can manage both the groups and yet make the lesson interesting.
 5.       How do you respond to your students’ diversities?
-          By knowing that they’re still in elementary she respects her student’s differences.
