because it's cold and my circulation is shitty because I am old and disabled lmao, I've been thinking...
Concept: Old Bots in Cold Earth Weather
there are different kinds and degrees of cold, of course
but surely, snow/ice/damp winter weather would be not great for mechanical lifeforms
sure, we know rust is a perpetual concern to begin with
and in TFP, we know there is a hard limit to maximum safe cold exposure for bots in general
but what about old bots with more sensitive joints and cabling?
maybe their minor fuel lines suffer stiffness during cold weather similar to how vascular construction from cold can cause circulation problems in human beings (Reynauds Syndrome, anyone?)
it would also be comparable to winter damage to rubber lines and materials in cars, where the cold causes the rubber components to become more brittle and less flexible over time -- might also affect tires
in TFA, they're all by Lake Erie/Detroit. cold as hell in winter. there's no way Ratchet is having a good time. his ass is out there unable to feel his servos for a good five months out of the year.
I know this, because I used to live just outside of Erie, in Allegheny. And holy fuck, my joints hurt just thinking about it. Now I live in England, where it's a different type of cold, but it fucks up my circulation and my lungs. lol
maybe it's not just damp cold weather that can impact older bots more severely, but dry cold weather.
perhaps "breathing in" cold air through their cooling systems and fans might cause difficulty with internal temperature regulation, possibly even causing spark dysregulation in the way humans can suffer tachycardia/arrhythmia from extreme cold exposure.
TFA Ratchet is having a rough time, I'm telling you. He's a medic, he's watching his own systems carefully, but he's not having a good time. lmao
But even TFP Ratchet, who has been acclimated mostly to the desert climate of Nevada, surely would not have an easy time trying to bridge himself over to a colder climate in order to pull an injured bot out of the field or try to carry out field repairs in a blizzard etc.
Or G1 Kup, who would absolutely be feeling the cold in miserable ways what with being in charge of field drills for the younger recruits (and therefore having to be outside all day), but he would absolutely strategically call Hot Rod over so that he could warm himself up with the excess heat rolling off of the exceptionally hot-running speedster.
The longer his stories are, the longer Hot Rod has to stand there next to him. LOL
all of the old bots would refuse to acknowledge their own difficulty in cold weather, lmao -- If Ratchet drops a tool because he can't feel his digits at all, you did not see it, it is fine, yes Bumblebee does pick it up and it's totally not embarrassing to be taken out by EARTH WEATHER of all things
if he trips because his pedes have started to ice over and his fuel circulation is going to hell, you did not see it. (Everyone sees it. Bumblebee and Optimus are first to offer help, and if the snow piles up too high, Bulkhead might even jokingly offer to carry Ratchet back... Ratchet starts yelling back, which gives Optimus the opportunity to sweep in and pick him up instead. "It's not a problem, old friend. We all stumble at times.")
lots of grumbling about how the vacuum of space is far colder and they've handled that before etc. (until someone points out that space doesn't have snowfall etc.)
anyway my break's over so I gotta get back to work, apologies for any typos, I'm writing this on my phone lol :')

I personally thought about the Megastar Vs Megasound for AGES once I saw the fic count too. I had the same thoughts as you did, Like soundwave is so loyal it had to of ticked in others mind he had the gay™️?? (And Megasound was the first ship I had of this Fandom so call me bias.)
But thats when I remembered. That Megastar isn't about Megatron, like Megasound is (or atleast Soundwaves devotion is), it's about Starscream.
Its about that high-heeled, sassy, backstabbing (definitely not queercoded) 'bastard' who's the only one confident enough to argue with the leadership.
They certainly are a dynamic duo and a memorable one at that, they certainly have more screentime together as well which doesn't help our cause.
Tumblr media
This is about this post
You have activated my desire to analyze! I actually have a theory about this. Oh, and while it's not my favorite ship anymore, MegaSound was actually the first thing I shipped in TF, too! And since I've been a fan for a good amount of time, I think I know what's going on. You know, this might sound weird, but I'm not even sure MegaStar's popularity vs. MegaSound's is about Megatron or Starscream. Maybe at one time it was—like in the earlier days of TF fandom when people would make jokes about things like, "Starscream must have been Megatron's ex and Soundwave's Megatron's new boyfriend" or whatever, but I think it's more about fandom wanting to plug characters into predefined roles they find hot. And I actually think this is the case for all the popular TF ships. Be warned to anyone reading this: this post gets kind of bitter.
Fans want drama and conflict and to pair somebody big and masc with somebody small and femme (and even when Starscream is not small or femme, fans will exaggerate the contrast). And it's a lot easier for people to do this with MegaStar because more and more often it has had some elements of this, like in TFP where Megatron was way bigger than Starscream and would viciously abuse him, and later Starscream decided he literally couldn't survive without Megatron so he came back and became devoted to him and desperate to do anything to please him. It was much more of a Cyclonus and Galvatron dynamic, really, so different from the dynamic in G1. While I thought this was the most stupid and disgusting way this dynamic could be written, it sure is easy for fandom to plug them into those roles they love.
But in more recent years, there was this huge backlash to MegaStar because of this connection with abuse and how that was a big reason it was so popular. So now, if you go on AO3, the most popular Megatron ship is actually MegOp, with over 2k fics, whereas I am certain that back in the fanfiction.net days, MegaStar was more common. And if you look at these MegOp fics, you'll see that despite the fact that I'm 90% sure people jumped onto this ship because they thought enemies-to-lovers would be less problematic… the most popular fics of them all fall into the same patterns. For example, the most popular MegOp fics on AO3 are all explicit TFA fics. But if you know TFA, you'll know it's actually one of the only series where Megatron and Optimus have barely any connection at all (Megatron doesn't even remember Optimus's name until the final episode!) and they really don't have any nemesis tension! It has the least potential for any kind of relationship between them. But what is true about it is that Optimus is much smaller than Megatron. Therefore it's easier for fans to find hot and plug into these same roles again.
And sadly, when you look at some of the most popular MegaSound fics, they are often attempts to plug them into the same roles as well. They'll have Soundwave as this soft, sad, pining guy and Megatron as abusive and negligent, and often the fics are about Megatron ignoring Soundwave's devotion in favor of messing around with characters like Starscream and Optimus again. It's like people wish Soundwave was like Shockwave from the 80's cartoon.
Tumblr media
And the problem is, even when MegaSound would have more conflict, like in Earthspark where they feel so divorced, people already ship MegOp for the reasons stated above. So they're going to default back to that anyway. This is why it feels like MegaSound can never win.
My favorite of all the ships that I listed in the post I made is StarShock, the one that comes in at the very bottom of the list. I think talking about it really highlights what I mean. StarShock makes the most sense in G1, since it was basically (presumably unintentionally) made very close to canon in the Marvel comics series which is part of that continuity family. But if you look at AO3, you'll see the specific continuity where there are the most fics of this pairing is... TFP! Why? Well, maybe it's because they were bitter rivals there and Shockwave was really big and looks much more masc compared to that Starscream! Whereas in G1, it would be very difficult to try and put them into the fans' preferred roles, and there are different ships that would be way easier to choose for that purpose. See how it's the same thing again?
And making content that is more in-character takes a lot of effort, I know because I've tried to create art and fics that reflect the characters and it takes work. But fandom is a fun activity that people don't get paid for, so I get why it's easier to do it the way I've described in this post.
Tumblr media
I feel like maybe part of what could help this is just making posts and stuff that show moments from canon that could be the basis for shipping. Or just to make posts gushing about how the ship is good. StarShock may be pretty unpopular, but I noticed a lot more nice fanart and stuff being made for it after I made posts on my main blog that were just excerpts from the Marvel comics that looked really romantic. Those posts were spread around and people started to realize/remember the ship was good. I've tried to do this with various other rarepairs too, and I recommend other people try it!

How do you want to handle Transformers going forward? You follow me, do you want me to softblock you if I post Transformers? What do you need us to do?
Thank you so much for asking, that's really sweet. There is nothing that you have to do!
I'm not going to blacklist every single Transformers Thing, because I still love Transformers so dearly and I want to reclaim the F/Os that I lost, Starscream especially. Avoiding it entirely is gonna train my brain to believe that it's a genuinely Dangerous Thing that I have to avoid for the rest of my life. I'm not gonna force myself to look directly at it 24/7, but I'm not going to turn away from it all either, if that makes sense
There's a few characters that I definitely have to blacklist, like Predaking/Skylynx/Darksteel might be permanent bc I have nightmares about them the most. Dreadwing and Breakdown I've had to blacklist as well, I don't know when I'd be able to reclaim those two again, but I notice that I have physical reactions when seeing these specific characters bc my ex-friend was so heavily associated w/ them, to the point of going to the hospital having rly intense panic attacks just from seeing her commissioning her S/I with them so often. I've also blacklisted all of TFA bc it was her favorite and I associated her with, like, everybody there. But TFA doesn't feel like a huge loss at all bc I never got into TFA in the first place. I'm sad I'm unable to ship w/ TFA Starscream (all Starlights are on the F/O list after all!!) but maybe one day I'll be able to change that. He's still gonna stay on my F/O list even if I may never interact w/ him.
I noticed that these characters are the ones where I'd be having the most intense reactions to, like getting rly sick/unable to keep any food down for full days, breaking out into hives, hyperventilating and shaking and crying, a total mess. Other characters that I used to feel SO comforted by, like Starscream and Bumblebee, I just get super sad and cry a lot bc I miss them so much and I wish I could feel safe around them again, but it doesn't give me a violent reaction... as often. It still happens, but not every single time like it did before. If I see her commissioned w/ them though, then yeah, that's the worst thing I can possibly see, is her S/I or OC with these characters. That's when I am inconsolable for days. My brain and body react as if I'm in danger. I automatically block anyone who interacts with her now.
I believe I can reclaim these characters if I associate them with people I trust... which is hard too, because I did trust this person who hurt me, and it really backfired on me. I still have a voice in the back of my head saying "don't trust ANYONE they're ALL gonna hurt you" but I'm ignoring it 99% of the time. I have some friends who LOVE to talk about Knockout, I think if I saw them posting abt Knockout on my dash, it would make me feel better. So in a way, seeing my friends talk about Transformers is actually helpful! Baby steps.
If the triggers get really bad I will just step away from the computer/phone for a while + binge cartoons that have no association with anyone whatsoever just to give my brain something else to think about. I've burned through sooo many shows this way. I have a lot of other triggers that aren't TF related but I associated w/ the person who hurt me, like the color pink was her Cybertronian OC's main color, and like... my walls in my room are pink. I got them painted that way for Bee and Puppycat just before the ptsd started and it was too late for me to repaint. I have so many pink clothes. I have some Princess Bubblegum and Pinkie Pie merch that's, well, pink. But I'm handling it better than I was months ago. On my worst days, I will leave my room so I can't look at my walls and I'll sleep on the couch. On my days where I'm not feeling as fragile/shaken up, I'll be able to sit in my room -- I'm sitting in my room right now! I'm sitting in my pink room and I'm just, not looking at it but I see it in the corner of my eye and I'm a little bit shaky but I'm not on the verge of a very horrible attack or anything. In a little while I'm gonna have to sit in a non-pink room for maybe an hour or so before I feel safe enough to come back to my bedroom. I'm going to eventually cover these walls with Cowboy Bebop posters and framed pictures of Spongebob characters.
What I'm trying to say is... I'm able to somewhat control what I see, I'm able to use grounding techniques if I get triggered by the "smaller" things (pink, crop tops, green eyes, etc). I'm blacklisting what I can, and if I need to, I'll block people who reblog her. I don't know if this is really a solid plan because I don't really know what I'm doing just yet, but like. I'm trying. I'm really trying, and if I need to change something then I'll surely figure it out over time. I've made it this far.

Talk about your love for MegaStar 👀
oh no what HAVE you done uhh i will try to like...keep my thoughts condensed bc the ESSAYS i could write on this ship. my dissertation on megastar
okay this ended up being long so i WILL put this under a readmore LMAO
i mean the thing is i could write so much because their dynamic is both like the same but also SO DIFFERENT IN EVERY CONTINUITY so my thoughts on megastar changes depending on continuity like. how i feel about TFA Megastar is not exactly the same as how i feel about TFP Megastar or Earthspark Megastar or IDW Megastar but like...the one thing i like the MOST about megastar is just how dysfunctional and codependent it can be (sorry hkdsfh but also idk what anyone expects with megastar i...am not sure anyone ships it bc its a paragon of a healthy relationship)
which is like a whole other can of worms but i find that sort of thing interesting in general, bc like...ALL cybertronians to a degree are dysfunctional, some more than others, but that kinda comes with the territory of having a 4-million year long civil war and one (1) therapist (who is only in one continuity). none of them really know HOW to be healthy and it's interesting exploring that and the different ways they've been broken and the different ways they cope. and to me megastar is one of the MORE interesting examples because like there is something to be said about knowing someone and being THAT close to them for as long as megatron and starscream have. they know each other better than anyone else, which is both isolating and a strange comfort. if starscream or megatron were ever to disappear or die, the other would lose a not-insignificant part of themselves; i don't think either of them even remember what their life was like without the other, nor can they really imagine it. like starscream being megatron's SiC has them working together for basically their entire lives i'd imagine. which is like...also something i wish was explored more, WHY starscream is megatron's SiC. like show me why he earned that rank! show me why he KEEPS that rank, why megatron trusts him THAT much, because like...obviously he must be SiC for a reason. why would megatron appoint him as his second if he did not in SOME capacity feel starscream was capable of leading the decepticons if he's gone (so like...stories of starscream being hopelessly incompetent kinda frustrate me sometimes. like sometimes i find them amusing but man i would love more of Dangerous, Competent Starscream bc he is SO enjoyable that way too). like TFA Starscream is one of my favorite depictions of Starscream because he is a THREAT and you can INSTANTLY see with everything he does WHY he is rightfully feared by autobots and proves megatron shouldn't have underestimated him
they're messy and co-dependent and i wish i could find like DMs where i've rambled abt it bc i've definitely articulated myself better in those and i'm having trouble w words rn hfldksjh. i want them to watch the world to burn, together, hand in unlovable hand
i find their relationship and dynamic just fascinating, not even 100% from a shipping standpoint, just in general (although i do also ship them and think they should kiss. or that they're bitter exes, which is like...ALSO a very fun dynamic to explore for me)
i guess if you want more focused thoughts ask me about a specific continuity bc i have a LOT to say about different megastars! like ESPECIALLY earthspark lately, but yeah. w/o a continuity i just talk about like...megastar OVERALL like IN GENERAL what i enjoy in a megastar dynamic
not to mention like every continuity ever has ENABLED and fed me so much. the megastars eat so well all the time and i thank hasbro for it. didnt like wfc but "i like his arrogance actually" will be THE highlight of the whole thing. did ANY of this rambling make sense. god i hope so, god i hope not

Can you do a she/they/he Reader/TFA Bee drabble? Nsfw or sfw (I'd like nsfw, but whichever you're more comfortable with :3)
WARNING, I am so SORRY, this turned out to become a little suggestive SFW story, but I hope you like it anyways because it opens doors to potential future chapters!
"What were you thinking?" You asked as you looked down at the small yellow Autobot. Bumblebee glared at you from his seated position against the tree, but you weren't even one bit intimidated by his sad attempt to look tough.
"Honestly, what were you trying to prove? That you can take on a big scary Decepticon all on your own?" You shook your helm in a disappointed manner.
Now Bumblebee could be careless at times and people who knew him would agree with that. He was working on it, he swears, but this was a chance of a lifetime! He had been out on a patrol and had got an AllSpark fragment's signal on his radar. The signal was coming from the forest, one place Bumblebee really disliked, but he knew he could get some recognition if he brought a piece of AllSpark back to the base.
He hadn't been expecting to run into a Decepticon, aka you, who had also found the signal too good to pass. A fight broke out, but you were bigger and stronger than the little yellow Autobot so you had him tied with Stasis Cuffs you carried around in your subspace. A good Con must be prepared for everything, that was your motto.
"So?! I have beaten Blitzbrains in a fight and I could beat you also if you wouldn't cheat, cheater!" Bumblebee shouted at you, but you just kept looking down on him quietly.
"Hmm…"
"What, what is it?!"
"You're cute." You nodded, "For an Autobot."
"Wh- What!?" Bumblebee blushed as he started to fidget as if he had ants running between his armor. You chuckled and sauntered to the Autobot and sat in front of him, to ease the size difference between you guys.
"Back in the good old days, I would take a little one like you out, offer you a good meal, followed by a good time, and then perhaps eat you-!"
"Y- You aren't going to eat me, are you!?" Bumblebee cried out as he tried to create more distance between the two of you, but his back was already firmly against the tree. You blinked, stunned by the Autobot's behavior, but the shock died out quickly.
"Bha ha ha ha!" You laughed, "Do you think I would actually eat you?"
"Well, what did you mean by that then!?"
"You really don't know? You're awfully naive." You noted, "Didn't they teach you about birds and bees back in Autobot Academy?"
"I- I know how interfacing works!" Bumblebee pouted and you smiled. He was a young one and painfully innocent. You grinned as you leaned toward him.
"So you know about fragging." You chuckled lightly, "Tell me little Autobot…" You purred as you traced your sharp servos against his cheek, making sure you weren't cutting him, "Has anyone touched you before? Made you into a stuttering needy mess? Made you want to scream in highest peaks of pleasure?"
"W- Wait-! I don't want-!" The words barely left his mouth and you nodded, "Okay." You said and pulled away from Bumblebee as if touching him burned you. The yellow Autobot blinked and looked at you in shock.
"Wait… You aren't going to force yourself on me?" He asked uncertainly and you scowled, "I'm a Decepticon, not a monster."
"Wow… I just assumed that you Cons would just take what you want." Bumblebee said and you shook your helm, "We have more honor than your Autobot superiors or leaders let you little pawns believe."
"I'm not a pawn!" He pouted and you snorted, "Sure you aren't."
A silence fell between you two and while you weren't really bothered by it, Bumblebee clearly was.
"So, uh…" He looked at you uncertainly, "What are you going to do to me?"
"I could take you as a hostage? It wouldn't be hard at all, and then take you to Lord Megatron so he can… Persuade you to tell the location of your Autobots' base where you are holding AllSpark fragments." You shrugged, "But I kinda like you enough not to bring you back to our base. Chances are that you would never be able to leave the place once I would bring you in."
"Oh…" He blinked, "I- I mean, oh!"
"In fact…" You reached towards Bumblebee and he flinched, thinking you were going to hurt him, but instead of doing so, you unlocked Stasis cuffs and took them off. "As proof of my sincerity, I'll let you go instead of taking you with me."
"Oh… Wait…?" Bumblebee scowled as he rubbed his sore wrists, "If this is one of your schemes to get me to lower my guard and tell you where we keep our AllSpark fragments then you are dead wrong!"
You couldn't roll your optics any harder or else they might have gotten stuck behind your helm. He was so suspicious, but you couldn't really blame him. If you would have been in his position you would probably also act like he was acting.
"Fine." You sighed and pulled out the small piece of AllSpark you had collected. "I'll give this to you as a peace offering."
Bumblebee blinked and looked at the shard in your hand. Carefully, like a shy wild animal, he reached for the piece and immediately jumped back once he got it. He looked at the shard and then at you. "You're awfully kind- No, weird for a Decepticon. What are you plotting?"
"Plotting?" You hummed thoughtfully, "Nothing really? I'm just a nice guy?"
"You're a Decepticon. There is no way your intentions are any good!"
"Really?" You pouted, "I don't think I'm that mean?"
"If you are as nice as you claim to be then why are you a Decepticon? Why do you want to enslave people?" Bumblebee asked and you had the guts to smile at him.
"My dream is that one day we can all live peacefully together." You confessed with a small hopeful smile. "I am sure Lord Megatron will make my dream come true so I keep supporting the Decepticon cause."
Bumblebee stared at you in wonder. He had never heard a Con speak like you were speaking. You sounded genuine about your goals, but could they really be that sincere? Should he ask?
"Aah, but I have been wasting too much of my precious time here!" You wailed dramatically as you turned your back to the yellow Autobot, ready to leave, "I have to return and let Lugnut know that I failed to obtain the AllSpark fragment. Aah, he is going to nag at me…!"
"Wait!" Bumblebee called and you stopped and looked at him, "What is it?"
"W- what did you mean by eating me?" He asked and you blinked before you burst out laughing. "After our serious conversation that is all you are thinking?"
"I- It's your fault for speaking about birds and bees as if I know nothing!" He shouted, his face bright red and burning from embarrassment.
"Oh, there are so many things I wanna do to you, my cute little Autobot. If you want to learn more…" You grinned and winked at him, "You know where to find me."

🖊 for anyone in the fourth android? :0
Oh boy that's so many options. I changed my mind at least five times about who to talk about, because I'm thinking about at least five of them at every moment. But I finally settled on Anni.
As I'm restructuring the beginning of TFA I'm adding in more scenes with her, which I'm happy about, even though I keep second guessing how good I am at writing from her POV. But I enjoy writing about her putting on her headphones (they're cool headphones with light-up stripes) and one of her like twenty curated playlists and getting in the coding zone. Approaching fictional android problems with the same kinds of strategies and frustrations that I have when I code. And having an excellent dynamic with her primary coworker at the bookstore, Urma (they/them), who is a (human) cryptid with a taste for this world's equivalent of any peach-flavored alcohol and the daily newspaper crossword (for solving, not imbibing). Anni spends a lot of time with Zel in this book, obviously, and I'm slowly figuring out how to show what their dynamic is, partly by showing everything around it (family, friends, jobs, etc.). And I am so excited for when I eventually get to the point of writing Anni having "gossip hour" with her older sister Halli (she/her) and younger brother Brandon (he/they) when she goes home for solstice. After a day's happenings they can all pile into someone's bedroom and speak of their dark secrets, such as "do you know where they store the solstice lights the rest of the season???" (Bran knows. He works for the city) and "I think I'm getting serious about Zel. should I be getting serious about Zel? is Zel getting serious about me?? is it too soon to ask??? Halli you're engaged please advise me how to gay correctly????" (Halli is engaged. in a beautiful t4t sapphic romance. and betrothed too I guess).
Also, I remembered that in an earlier draft of TFA it was important to the plot that Anni used to be really into cosplay, because Dez swiped some of her stuff to attempt to pass as human while he ran away. I kinda want to explore that side of her even though I don't think it's super directly relevant to this draft of TFA. Did the cosplay stuff just sort of fade into the background because she got into other stuff? Did she get frustrated with it for some reason? Did Bran do duo costumes with her all the time and were they always extremely cute? (That one is obviously a yes.) I also wonder what kinds of cosplays she would do. It's probably the one area of her life where she dresses in colors that are not primarily blue. Maybe she got into cosplay because of Bran, who got into it because he wanted an excuse to dress up and look cool, and Halli could connect him with her community theatre friends for sharing/making costume pieces. Anni and Bran used to play her favorite MMO together, but while Anni wants to play the game more or less as intended, with all the grinding and gearing and guilds that entails, Bran just wants to take in the world, find some shiny rocks, and do every possible sidequest (thinking about it in Breath of the Wild terms: "yeah it would be tough but I bet I could do a no Beasts speedrun" vs. "the Stone Talus on the Great Plateau is the most breathtaking and terrifying thing I've ever seen in my life. What do you mean there's 29 more"). So it was fun until he started being chronically underleveled and kind of lost interest in the game. So then they started cosplaying to have something related to do together? (I should clearly write more of these character rambles because I'm figuring stuff out.)
Anyway, Anni is fun, and I need to get her talking to Julian more and figure out what she knows about sailboats.

i just watched patrick willem's video from 2018 on the last jedi called "what do we want from a star wars movie?" and im going to share my thoughts because no one can stop me, im 6 years late and i don't care
i like his channel a lot and i think he did a good job explaining it, but i agree maybe 50% with his main point. he says that fans who were upset with tlj were looking for the Star Wars Feeling™️ from a star wars movie, the feeling of nostalgia essentially, and that the eu normalizing explications for everything made fans less open to new stuff. the main thing *i* want to say though is about one of his supporting points: that the prequels didnt feel like star wars in that they weren't relatable like the ot.
i love the prequels man. of course, i grew up with them in a way many didn't (as well as tcw which just serves to heighten the movies), so there's definitely bias, but one thing i love about the prequels *is* that vastly different feeling. looking back, the ot could be described as campy, but every person ive talked to who saw Star Wars in 1977 said the effects and presentation were beyond any immersion they'd ever experienced before. the same cannot be said for ep. 1, even people who got into star wars from that movie (at least that ive heard), despite also being on the cutting edge of movie technology, and obviously the dialogue is way cheesier than anything written by anyone other than george lucas, but all that just adds to the vibes, ya know? the galaxy was in a different time then too, and i can't explain how much fun it is to experience these completely separate times in such a visceral way, intentional or otherwise, when watching through the saga
i hate the sequels. of the 3, tlj is far and away my favourite. i would have LOVED to see what trilogy rian johnson and his team could have cooked up if they'd been given control over the whole thing. i love tfa visually, and introduces some great characters (ahem, KYLO...also finn i love him) but just *feels* like anh remastered. if that's what you wanted, great! but for me, i was just sooo stoked to see what a new era would feel like that it really disappointed me. the main thing i hear from people who like tlj is that it takes the story in a different direction. and while i really appreciate that, and do like the force dyad stuff and finn and roses subplot and the not-lightsaber fight at the end AND what all that stuff means for the saga, it still has that feeling of sameness, at least to me, because it's trying to be something so different. the way i see it, it's trying to be *opposite* of what everyone expects, which means it needs to have that same feel in order to subvert it. which, again, is fine by me! tfa was already done and it has to fit that aesthetic to fit into the trilogy, and im just one fan. of course everyone hates ros which i guess tried to do opposite of what they did opposite in tlj? i don't know what they were on making that movie
another thing i wanted to bring up was the whole interconnectedness of the franchise. patrick brought up the eu to show how fans were taught that every detail has an explanation. no second of the ot was without a dozen books detailing what every character was doing in the background and how they came to be there. his point was that, when new characters are doing new things in unexpected ways, people don't like it cause there isn't a wookiepedia article on it yet to explain it exactly, and that that ties into why people hated tlj. i don't doubt it, but i also want to point out that that eu is a source of a lot of enjoyment too. i don't think he was denying this, or saying it was bad at all, but i just wanted to share that the eu is basically the reason im as big a fan as i am. the idea that everything is connected is appealing to me, and the way that star wars does it, where expanded material takes place in all different times and settings with no correlation to publishing date, just really appealed to me in contrast to the marvel way or any other big franchise like that. in any other series, each new installment progresses time forward. in star wars, we have infinite time to explore any era we want...which brings me back to how much i love the completely different aesthetics from the ot and pt. the variety is so refreshing. the galaxy feels so different between eras where the sequels just make it rebels vs empire again. we already have a billion books on rebels vs empire so...what expanded stories can i look forward to thats different in the sequel era? im sure there are lots, but the difference just won't be as great. also, star wars *is* goofy. patrick says it himself, bringing up that there were a lot more jokes in the ot. id argue the prequels take themselves so seriously that the seriousness becomes the goofiness (and i love it). ive said many times on this blog that i LOVE the stupid part of star wars lore. like yes, the fact that it's explained who the stormtrooper is that han killed and stole armour from and that he's fucking tarkin is SUPER UNNECESSARY but it's FUNNY AS FUCK. no one needs to know palpatines name is sheev but that's the best name ever? the problem isn't the lore, it's when people take it too seriously and don't allow for that innovation to happen that leads to more fun lore and stories. which i think is exactly what patrick was saying, he just didn't emphasize how enjoyable the unnecessary-ness of it all is and how distinct feels in different star wars eras are imperative to all these diverse avenues for story and fun to arise. (now do i think people should be able to survive lightsaber wounds? only cause of how much i love qui-gon, i admit to being a bit angry about that...but at the end of the day i don't really care that much? im here to have fun and yeah ill complain about it sometimes but just cause complaining is also fun)
that's why i love tcw (it fleshes out this distinct time period and political setting) and rebels (again, fleshes out the distinct era of extremely fleeting hope between the empire's reign and the coming of the saviour) and the heir to the empire novels (they establish a new era with a different feel—much more similar to the ot than the prequels are to the ot but still) and kotor (same as with htte but more similar to prequels) and the new jedi order and legacy (although it's also basically rebels vs empire, it has enough of a divergent story and tone that i like it) and the high republic in the disney canon (although i haven't digested as much of it as id like cause fuck disney)
but my main point: the thing i want from new star wars is a mix of things patrick seems to love,l AND things he seems to hate. yes i want it to be star wars, so there's some sort of familiar feeling there that needs to present, but i also want a twist on it. the ot was a classic fairy tale. the prequels were political thrillers (sometimes not so thrilling, but still). other stories people really liked act completely differently again, like the mandalorian being a western and also a heartwarming family bonding adventure or andor being a spy thriller and also the best star wars show. each era or sub-franchise has their distinct aesthetics and feels that future artists can make feel even more distinct and special yet theyre all connected which is just fun don't you think? the sequels would have made me a lot happier if they gave us some new ground for new feels the same way the prequels did. anyway that's my official response no one cares about to a 6 year old video. yay!

the fact that the same guy also did wardrobe on tros did the wardrobe on tlj but said tros was when he decided to really “put forward” the fact that oscar isaac was an attractive guy by dressing Poe like That -
sir, pray tell, what the hell was tlj then.

Okay, I’ve decided to organize my thoughts on the Star Wars Sequels. The way I see it, the movies had an acceptable start, peaked in excellence with The Last Jedi, and then utterly destroyed all of their potential in the finale as The Rise of Skywalker. This was unfortunate, because the explosion that was TROS crashing and burning cast a weird, hellish light of suckiness on the two films that came before it. Like, when you go back and watch TFA or TLJ, you can’t see characters who grow and change, anymore. You can only look at the potential they had which was wasted and had no payoff.
I have a friend who totally disagrees and says that the Star Wars Sequels sucked simply because Disney was in charge, and Disney sucks. He doesn’t think the Sequels were ever good or had any potential to be good at any point. He thinks TLJ was the worst of the three and helped set up the dumpster fire which was TROS by being so bad.
He’s wrong. TLJ was the best one. I would argue that because most fans were blinded by wanting TLJ to revive their idealization of classic Star Wars characters, they missed all the good that The Last Jedi was doing for the franchise. And I would not be surprised if it was the negative fan response to Rian Johnson’s excellent setup that contributed to JJ Abram’s horrible swing-and-a-miss with TROS.
I feel like the best way to explain this is by addressing the complaints everyone spewed after TLJ premiered. Is it way too late to make these points? Yes. Does anyone care? Nnno probably not. But if you do care and you disagree, guess what? Yes I am making this argument and yes, I take criticism. Let’s gooo
Complaint 1: Snoke’s Death
Tumblr media
People hated that Snoke died in TLJ because they wanted him to be something. Anything. Anything important. Why did they want that? I really don’t know. I suspect it is because Emperor Palpatine, in the Sacred Original Trilogy, was so hardcore evil and endured to the finale as the “final boss.” Fans must’ve obviously expected that pattern to repeat. And while it repeated, they wanted it to uncover lore; Snoke is a clone, Snoke is Plagueis, Snoke is The Son, Snoke is a time traveler, Snoke is Palpatine. They just wanted him to be something they could point at and say “oh! That! I know what that is!” But whether you wanted Snoke to be a copy of the phenomenon that was The Emperor from the OT, or you wanted him to be a something obscurely interesting from the extended universe of Star Wars, guess what?
That was never the point of Snoke. Snoke is not the main bad guy. Snoke isn’t even interesting. He’s a copy of what we’ve seen before: a dark, shadowy puppet master who is vaguely overpowered and hideously ugly, as well as shrouded in mystery. He fulfills the same role the Emperor did, in Force Awakens. He’s just there to be the authority behind more interesting or relatable villains like Hux and Kylo Ren. You might say “well, why did they even need to have Snoke in the first place? They shouldn’t even have created a character that was a copy of the Emperor; but since they did, they DEFINITELY shouldn’t have killed him off!!”
But that is silly too. Obviously Star Wars narratives aren’t going to ever be super logical, but one thing makes sense: if you have a super powerful head of a movement which is challenging the government, like the First Order, why would that super-powerful head jeopardize himself by going into battle? Chasing down Resistance Pilots? Giving speeches personally? It makes more sense for such a super-powerful head to maximize the power that being mysterious gives him, for one, and keep his head out of sniper crosshairs for another. Meanwhile, he sends underlings like Hux and Ren to be extensions of his will.
So Snoke needs to be around for logic purposes. But what about story purposes? Did he need to be a copy of the Emperor?
No. And he’s not. Well, functionally, in some ways he is. Like I already said, in The Force Awakens, he’s just around for a brief cameo as a hologram telling his underling what to do, and ominous mentions by the First Order, very similar to Palpatine in A New Hope. But take a look at some differences.
Palpatine ran his Empire by planning several steps ahead so that he could destroy the Jedi and conquer the galaxy from the inside of a pre-established government system. That took patience and living a double life. Snoke, on the other hand—we’re not told (until TROS) how he came to power. But it is easily seen that his method of conquering is not patience and subtlety. First he targets and sways to his side the son of the existing government (the New Republic’s) heroes. That puts a big old “HEY I’M SNOKE AND I’M EVIL” sign on his back. And he openly waged war against the forces of good in the galaxy with an organization that’s not even trying to pretend it isn’t a holdover from the Empire. Like, his soldiers are called “Stormtroopers” and he uses Star Destroyers and everything. It would be like if Palpatine, in Phantom Menace, never ran for Senate or plotted with several apprentices to undermine the Jedi prophecies. Forget all that.  What if, instead, some time before the beginning of Phantom Menace, this Nabooian, Sheev Palpatine made a name for himself by being super strong in the Dark Side, gathered as many cultists as he could, dressed them in obviously evil uniforms, and declared open war on the Galactic Republic as a leftover faction of the Sith Empire? And everyone identified him and his cultists as "a holdover from the Sith Empire." Oh, but first, he found, like, the child of a hero from the Old Republic and turned him into his own personal evil puppet.
Palpatine wasn’t that bold (or stupid, take your pick.) The Emperor wasn’t standing on the ruins of another evil and openly reviving a war that had already been lost, with all the subtlety of a hammer blow. He played the long, gigantic, centuries-old game and by the Revenge of the Sith, he was the overlord of the entire galaxy with all the power strategically placed to tip over to his own side in one fell swoop. So he has a much more established, much further-reaching influence as the Big Bad Villain in the Original Trilogy. Honestly, when you compare Snoke in TLJ, Snoke starts to look like some fanboy upstart who just has great stage presence and uncommonly long reach with the Force.
The point being, Snoke isn’t fulfilling the same EXACT mold as Palpatine. His “rule” only really started after he destroyed the planets of the New Republic at the END of Rise of Skywalker. It’s brand new. He’s not an established ruler, even if everyone on his payroll is commanded to call him, and treat him as, the “Supreme Leader.” So cutting the tentative, brand new warlord of the Galaxy in half in your second movie instead of in the last is more feasible, because you don’t have to build as much into it. Snoke has only been a mover and shaker of significance, to our knowledge, since Ben’s adolescence.
And all comparing Snoke’s interesting-ness to Palpatine’s aside…that’s not even the argument here. Snoke never needed to be “somebody important” because all he ever needed to do was serve as the character propellor for Kylo Ren. Kylo Ren needed to have someone encouraging him to do horrible things, like kill his own father or capture the only person who’s ever understood the conflict in him. It was not only fascinating to have Snoke die one movie early, but to have him die as a nobody? Someone who was there, powerful, and then gone? Wow! What a move! Think about it.
Star Wars is built on tension between who you are, who you choose to be, and what legacy you leave. To have Snoke be set up as someone important, but cut down by the character that we’re all ACTUALLY interested in, is the best way those themes have been played with in years. When Kylo Ren cuts him down, it means that the stakes are high. It means that it doesn’t matter if a character’s history is a mystery, or meaningful—it yanks the audience’s attention into the present moment. Forget about who this Snoke guy WAS and where he WAS during the events of your sacred Original Trilogy—look at the character standing here NOW. He’s got a crazy crackling lightsaber and an unhinged mentality, and you no longer know what he is going to do next.
Conclusion: Snoke was never meant to be somebody. He was just meant to make the actual Somebodies of the film stand out more.
And what was SET UP by this was the idea that Kylo Ren was now the leader of the First Order. The character you thought was a Vader stand-in is now the Emperor stand-in. And yeah, he can’t possibly be good at it—right? All we’ve seen him do up until the moment he declares himself Supreme Leader is ignore careful planning and do whatever his tantrum-happy heart desires in the moment. He shows no signs, during his few minutes as acting Big Bad at the end of TLJ, of changing that pattern of “leadership.” In fact, he just seems more lost and confused by the last shot of Adam Driver in that film. What does a Big Bad who is lost and confused look like in a trilogy finale?
I guess everybody was thinking “waaah, I can’t take Kylo Ren seriously as a threat! He’s a tantrum-throwing kid! The Resistance doesn’t even have anybody worth fighting if he’s in charge.” But guess what? Rian Johnson took care of that…because by the end of the film, the Resistance is like ten alien misfits flying away on one beat-up freighter. Their most powerful defense against the new, unhinged Supreme Leader is an emotionally drained orphan with Jedi texts to maybe study and no lightsaber. And if you think that makes Kylo Ren too overpowered to have an interesting third movie fighting ten alien misfits, remember that Rian Johnson also had Kylo Ren’s fleet blown up by HyperSpace Kamikaze. So they're back down to more manageable odds, a much smaller war (in scale) and more potential screen time for the characters. Characters, like Kylo Ren, who are going in bold new directions, like “kill all old things” and “how do we build a rebellion from this?” It just freed up MORE time and space for them to focus on and develop the themes/characters we all care about. AND, that, as an added benefit, would have allowed the Sacred Original Trilogy to keep its laurels as the Big War of Star Wars.
But no. You guys were mad that Kylo Ren was going to be the Big Bad, and so we got Palpatine back. Boring, tired old Palpatine. And Kylo Ren took steps BACKWARD and became the conflicted power-hungry puppet of an old man, again.
Complaint 2: Luke’s “Character Assasination”
Tumblr media
I’m going to try to keep my response to this short and sweet. Basically everyone wants to dump on Rian Johnson’s explanation of Luke Skywalker hiding on Ahch-To and almost killing his nephew once a long time ago. They think Luke Skywalker, strong and heroic at the end of A New Hope, would never do such things. “He’d never give up on Ben! He’d never leave Leia and Han and the galaxy to defend themselves!”
Okay but think for one second. Think OUTSIDE the Original Trilogy.
The best characters are believable. Luke is believable because he has multiple levels to who he is. Yes, when met in the OT, he is hopeful and adventurous, and he sees the good in others. Old recluse Ben Kenobi, irritating but lovable smuggler Han, treacherous father Vader, you name it. If it breathes, Luke seems willing to believe it has good in it. But Luke is more than just your standard Hopeful, Forgiving Hero. He is also prideful. LET ME FINISH. Luke is told by Yoda that he cannot be trained because he is too young, but Luke insists that he can. Luke is told not to go confront Vader until he is ready, but he goes anyway because he believes he is the only one who can save his friends. He is told not to go to his father, because it is too late for Vader to be saved, but he goes anyway. It turns out all right in the end; Luke goes, in his pride believing he can resist the Dark Side and the Emperor. He almost turns to the Dark Side, believing he can stop his sister’s endangerment and the death of the Rebellion. He is goaded into fighting Vader, and almost kills his own father. But then he chooses to have mercy and be a Jedi, instead. If not for Anakin’s return to the Light, even that decision would have gotten him killed. But like I said, it turned out okay and Luke was remembered as the hero who kept up belief in the Light.
So let’s say you’re Rian Johnson, and the character everyone believes is a super powerful god of hope and heroism has, for some reason, been sitting on an island while his nephew kills his best friend and almost kills his sister and destroys everything Luke worked for. You have to explain that.
You have to keep Luke in-character. So what part of Luke Skywalker,  in the OT source material, might have grown in the lifetime since we saw him last? What would the Sacred Original Trilogy Luke do if he had a family member who, leaning into the dark side, might be revealed to someday destroy everyone he loved?
Wasn’t there a moment where Young, Sacred Original Trilogy Luke Skywalker almost killed a family member under the same circumstances? Oh yeah. When he had Vader at his mercy at the end of Return of the Jedi. So it looks like, sometimes, it IS in-character for Luke Skywalker to have “a briefest moment of pure instinct,” and “I thought I could stop it,” and then “it passed.”
Okay, so maybe Luke threatening his nephew in a moment of fear and weakness can be said to be in-character. But what about after that? What about, in the consequences of that, Luke deciding not to make up for it but instead go into hiding? That’s super out-of-character, right? I mean, who would do that? Who would fail to save the Galaxy from a new darkness after driving his apprentice to that darkness, then choose to isolate himself and seek answers about where he went wrong by studying ancient Jedi artifacts?
Oh. Ben Kenobi. Who failed to prevent or defeat the darkness in his apprentice, and so decided to isolate himself and study the Force with his Master’s ghost. Ben Kenobi, who was one of Luke Skywalker’s only two role models in the Force did that same thing. Of course, Ben Kenobi was guarding Luke all the time, so he wasn’t totally abandoning the galaxy. But maybe, when Luke ran from his failure, he thought he was going to find some sort of answer to the problem. Some sort of insight to where he went wrong, so he could go back and save Ben. Only to find, on the island, that the only insight he could reach was the utter hubris of the Jedi Order he used to idolize. Then he starts internalizing that hubris, projecting it onto himself, coupled with the crippling added weight of having failed the only family he has…and he truly believes that the world is better off without him.
Okay, but who would, after failure, begin a young woman’s training and then leave her to go fight the danger you’ve been avoiding, all alone? When you know she might be killed?
Oh. Master Yoda. Who started an ill-advised apprentice’s training in Empire Strikes Back, and then when that apprentice stubbornly flew off to confront his nemesis, warned against it and ultimately stayed behind. Master Yoda, Luke Skywalker’s other only role model in the Force who did the same thing. Now, luckily, Yoda corrected this. Yoda finished Luke’s training, and gave him advice on his destiny, then passed into the Force. And when Luke was getting ready to leave Rey to her fate, it wasn’t until Yoda reappeared on Ahch-To that Luke returned to hoping. He realized that, yes, Rey was going to fail to turn Ben Solo the same way he failed to prevent Ben Solo from turning to the Dark Side. But thanks to Yoda, he also realized that that didn’t mean she needed to do what he did and isolate herself, or close herself off from the Force. She needed to learn from the failure and grow beyond it. That is what Luke is doing in the final Act of TLJ. He is proving to Rey, through a dying connection to the Force, that she can focus on and have peace in her purpose.
That IS in-character for Luke. Maybe, if Ben Solo hadn’t been Force sensitive and Snoke hadn’t turned him to the Dark Side from afar during training, Luke would have had a different in-character development between OT and ST. Maybe, if some galactic threat that had no direct, dark-side connection to his family had appeared, he would’ve kept fighting and become an even stronger beacon for hope in others and perseverance. But that’s not what happened. It’s a little tragic, but then, the story isn’t about him any longer. The story is about Rey. And Rey needed to learn that “her place in all this” wasn’t important. (Which is paralleled beautifully by Luke choosing to give himself up literally, and thematically, for her to go on. He was choosing to pass into the Force BECAUSE he didn't need to be the one in the spotlight, saving the galaxy, with everything rising on him, anymore.)
Rey didn’t need to be the answer to Kylo Ren’s problem, and she didn’t need to find out that her parents gave her meaning. It was just finding a purpose in helping others, passing on the Jedi growth to new generations, that mattered. That's what Luke's whole role is in this movie. He learns that in hiding away on an island, he was still acting out of hubris; like if he joined the galaxy again and came out of hiding, he'd cause more problems just by being a living legend. But in this movie he essentially learns from Yoda "it ain't that serious." Just pass on your strengths and your weaknesses because it ain't all about you.
Which is hard for people to understand, because Star Wars fans love Luke Skywalker. He's Luke Skywalker. But this isn't Part 4 of the Sacred Original Trilogy. It's a BRAND NEW trilogy, FOLLOWING Luke's story, but not HIS story any more. If this were the new "Luke Skywalker" tv show, and we opened on our main hero running from his problems, then yeah, we could have a legitimate offense. But that's not what this is. Context is the only way out of the plastic bags Luke fans seem to be suffocating under.
And also, it’s actually kind of great, the way Luke passed on. It echoes the OT, but in a better way. In the OT, Ben Kenobi dies by choosing to deactivate his light saber after deliberately engaging Vader, a “lost cause,” when he knew there was a young hero who could carry on the mission after he was gone. Luke deliberately engages Ben Solo, but NOT as a "lost cause." In fact, by being a Force projection, Luke NEVER gives Kylo Ren the option to "strike him down in anger." He won't be the instrument of Ben Solo choosing more darkness. And he even says to Leia, "nobody's ever really gone." Where Ben Kenobi sacrificed himself so that Luke could defeat his fallen apprentice in the future, Luke sacrifices himself so that Rey could live on and SAVE his fallen apprentice.
If that's not Luke Skywalker, tell me what is.
And it goes perfectly with the best theme in the film, "We won by not killing what we hate; saving what we love."
Complaint 3: Canto Bight/Finn/Rose
Tumblr media
I put these all together because they GO together. Trying to separate Finn, Rose, and their adventure on Canto Bight would unravel the whole point of that B-Plot. And there is a point.
I have heard several different complaints about this. First, that the creators didn't know what to do with Finn, so they sidelined him. Or the creators didn't know what to do with Finn, so they brought in Rose, a "useless love interest." And at the center of all complaints is Canto Bight. "Pointless," "boring," "preachy" Canto Bight. Some people even say Canto Bight was only in there to push a political, anti-capitalism message.
What? Seriously, what?
That's SO not the point of Canto Bight. I feel like this is so obvious but evidently it needs to be said because some people have been watching the same Sacred Star Wars Original Trilogy for so long, they've forgotten how movies work, or something.
Canto Bight is a sci-fi object lesson on the only good which can come of war. Canto Bight juxtaposes BAD profit associated with war (literal rich people getting rich off of slavery and brutal conflict) with the GOOD outcome of war (a shakeup or overhaul of that very system, leading to freedom for those who couldn't free themselves without help.)
Rose and Finn arrive on Canto Bight looking for a master code breaker to try and stop the First Order. Instead, they find a foil for Finn. They escape by setting the alien deer-creatures free, and at first, Finn is just happy they "made those guys hurt." But Rose (who is a GREAT character, especially when interacting with Finn's character) teaches him that it's only worth it if they get caught because they freed the deer-aliens. Why? They're just dumb beasts. They didn't get to free the slave children, or blow up the corrupt, bloated gambling town. Why would setting a few creatures free make failure worth it?
For the same reason escaping with a handful of survivors was worth more than heroes sacrificing to blow up a big Dreadnaught.
The theme of the film is YOU AREN'T THAT IMPORTANT. The CAUSE is important. The GREATER GOOD, the BIG PICTURE, is important. And if your sacrifice for the greater good looks like FAILING the battle so you can WIN the WAR, GOOD.
You don't get to be the hero who hops in an X-Wing and blows up a dreadnought, or hops in an X-Wing and takes a shot at the dreaded Kylo Ren. Sometimes you don't get to be that hero. Sometimes, it's worth more to run and keep more people alive; and with them, hope.
You don't get to be the hero who learns her true heritage as an heiress to a glowing role in the great Story of the Galaxy, or the great hero who turns the most fearsome evil back to the Light. You don't even get to be the hero who brings Luke Skywalker back to the world. Sometimes, it's worth more to lift some rocks out of the way and do what you can, in the present, to save your friends.
You don't get to be the hero who liberated all of Canto Bight, AND sabotaged the First Order, AND kept your Jedi Chosen One friend. You don't get to be the hero who throws himself into the cannon and blows it up with your noble death. Sometimes, it's worth more to LEARN FROM YOUR FAILURE and do the HARDER thing and STAY with the tiny, near-hopeless underdogs fighting a losing battle.
They failed. Rose sacrificed everything from her sister to her sentiments to her own life and they still got caught. Finn finally decided to fight against the First Order instead of fleeing, but he still failed; he didn't get to sabotage them or sacrifice himself. And FROM that failure they LEARNED. Finn learned that it's not enough to pick a side. It's not even enough to die fighting. You have to LIVE fighting, out of love, not hate. And he was a former stormtrooper. He was RAISED on the rhetoric of establishing right using might. So when he tries to blow up the battering-ram cannon with himself, it's out of a furious, last-ditch effort to keep them from winning. He wants the First Order to lose. He wants to strongarm a solution, go out in a blaze of glory, show them!
But it's HARDER to live and fight on. (Cue George Washington line from Hamilton.) It's harder to control your hate and your desire for vengeance or victory, or your desire to show your former masters that they'll never own you again...and instead spend your effort strategically, carefully, because you're thinking more about the people you love and the galaxy you're leaving behind than you are the statement a brash sacrifice would make.
And ROSE? Oh my gosh, Rose is such a great character! Especially when you compare her to the only other person Finn seems to have such a strong bond with: Rey.
Finn's relationship with Rey is, that she was the first person who ever looked at him like he could be important. Or a hero. "I've never met a Resistance fighter before." He related to her instantly, because both of them have been living with no family. Nobody to latch on to. Nobody to care about. When he meets her, (obviously there's some attraction but whatever) they're kindred spirits, in a way. He's found someone to care about, and he throws himself into it. He doesn't want to lose her. She winds up being the only thing he's willing to sacrifice for.
Then he meets Rose. And if you think about it, she looks at him with even more admiration than Rey did, initially. Then she realizes he's leaving (yes, because he only really commits to Rey) and her reaction is that much more extreme than Rey's was upon learning Finn was the kind of guy to flee. She tazes him.
From that moment on, Rose is the one teaching Finn what living for a cause looks like. Something bigger than himself, and his attachment to one other person. She just lost the only person she had--her sister. For all they know, with Rey out on dangerous unknown missions, Finn could soon be in the same boat. Losing the only person he has. To Finn? That is unacceptable.
But here's Rose. This perfect character to parallel him. She doesn't have anybody else; her sister is gone. But she's still with the Resistance. Still fighting. How must that look, to Finn? And he sees her sacrifice over and over for this greater cause. She could have given up. Run away. Her sister is gone; what was preventing her from getting in the escape pods and running away?
She's the balance (another huge theme in this film) to DJ. DJ says don't join. Rose's whole character says "save what you love." She does hate Canto Bight. Much more than Finn. But when he's ready to get excited about causing Canto Bight pain, she's showing him it's better to be excited about setting animals free.
Rey could not, ultimately, teach Finn. She was having her own identity crisis. So introducing Rose, and having her, an ordinary, nobody mechanic just working for the Resistance, be his greatest teacher, was beautiful AND perfect.
I think what puts a sour taste in everyone's mouth about Rose is that kiss at the end of her appearances in the film. And I'm not going to argue about why the kids made sense--all I'll say is that FINN didn't seem to reciprocate. He was too busy reeling over the moral mic drop she said before she kissed him. Because the point is she's always surprising him, making him think differently about the world and his place in it and what sacrifice is really FOR. And she kissed him because she's got nobody else in the whole galaxy and clearly already held on to some admiration for him for defecting from the First Order, and John Boyega is attractive. So she's just saved his life and he cares enough about her to try and help her afterward, and she's clearly a little loopy, and she kissed him real quick. Get over it, guys. That wasn't the point of her. She was EXCELLENT.
Complaint 5: Hyperdrive Ramming
This is maybe the dumbest one. But also maybe the most excusable one? At least this complaint is about something technical. Somehow that feels like a more forgivable prejudice than the kind that might prompt someone to have a complaint about why older Luke Skywalker didn’t behave exactly like 20 year-old Luke Skywalker, or other character-based complaints.
Tumblr media
Hello, welcome to the Star Wars fandom. A fandom where fans will accept scientific fallacies, like the sound of blaster fire and engines roaring in the vacuum of space. Or scientific fallacies like a laser which, instead of continuing as an infinite beam, somehow reroute itself into the shape of a blade, and is called a “‘lightsaber.” It’s a fandom where fans will accept that there is something called “‘The Force” —which can be measured by something called “midicholrians” and yet cannot be defined in…literally any other way; it’s even rumored to be able to resurrect the dead, and have a will of its own, and sometimes heroes randomly fade out of existence and “‘become one with the Force.” — In the Star Wars fandom, fans can accept that. Heap the Force on every plot. Do it. We love it. In the Star Wars fandom, you can have a galaxy full of droids on every planet and in every system, and yet those droids are rarely used to fly ships alone. And fans accept this. In the Star Wars fandom, cloning is shown in one set of movies, and then the technology is never seen, cinematically, again. And fans accept this. In the Star Wars fandom, galaxy-dominating empires aren’t bright enough to have soldiers who can aim, or stop building sensitive equipment like shield generators outside of their actual shields. And fans accept this. A Force-sensitive young woman, Leia, who was raised by a politician that used to be close to the Jedi Council spends most of the first film in the presence of her actual birth father, yet the two Force-sensitive beings never sense any kind of connection with one another—despite that being a thing that the Force is known to cause in almost every other relational case. But fans accept that.  But Heaven help you if you try to tell the fans that Admiral Holdo could have turned her ship around and destroyed her opponents by engaging it’s Hyperdrive too close to them.  “If a ship is traveling at the speed of hyperdrive, it jumps instantly, and could never have collided with anything around it! It literally leaves that plane of existence!! If anyone can do that, all of Star Wars is pointless. If anyone can do that, then they would’ve been doing it in every space battle before. They would’ve been able to destroy the Death Star that way. Hyperdrive Ramming breaks Star Wars!! It’s an assasination of the whole franchise!! It’s an abomination! It’s the stupidest thing—”
Oh my gosh, shush. If that is not the epitome of nitpicking, I don’t know what is.
So what if you haven’t seen this type of warfare before? Guess what, it’s a science fiction movie; you never saw any of this before you SAW IT FOR THE FIRST TIME. That’s how the “fiction” part of “science fiction” works.
So what if Hyperdrive wouldn’t work like that in real life? Guess what? Neither would a lightsaber. Neither would the Force. Neither would sound effects. Get over it.
So what if they didn’t use that on the Death Star? You know what? The point of having the Death Star be destroyed by missiles was to show that Luke Skywalker, our protagonist, had decided to trust the Force. A kid from the desert with no formal training was able to out-fly the most deadly pilot in the galaxy and make an impossible shot without the use of his targeting system because it made narrative sense, and for no other reason. Welcome to Star Wars. Holdo’s Hyperdrive Ramming makes sense because it fits the narrative. It shows what the right kind of sacrifice looks like.
Sometimes I think the Star Wars fandom doesn’t know how to watch a movie.

I am becoming seriously fed up with Finn fans, and unfortunately, with John Boyega.
First of all, Finn was originally conceived as ‘Sam’, a smuggler who befriended Rey. There were a number of actors lined up to play him, and they were all white. One of them was SpiderMan’s Tom Hollander.
Eventually the character’s name and his role of smuggler was changed to an ex stormtrooper named Finn, but two things remained the same - his personality, which is why so many comment on him being ‘too jokey’ for a former brainwashed child soldier - and the fact that he was never meant to be Rey’s boyfriend. Just her friend.
Then JJ Abrams cast Boyega, who did a good job of playing Finn in TFA and TLJ - I won’t mention TROS.
Boyega is a good actor. He’s also firm friends with Daisy Ridley, hence their brother/sister on screen chemistry. But,post TROS Boyega has been making a lot of complaints.
That he should have been male lead, and not Kylo Ren. That Adam Driver hogged what should have been his lead role. That he should have had the romance with Rey.
His eager fans on the JCF are lapping this up and flinging their support behind him.
Most of all, they are supporting his claims that the only reason he didn’t get what HE wanted, and his fans think should have been his by rights...is because of his ethnicity. In short, Finn wasn’t leading man and Rey’s boyfriend because he was played by a black man.
There are two things here which Boyega and his adorers have chosen to ignore. The central protagonist was always meant to be Rey. And Adam’s character, Kylo Ren, was the last of the real Skywalkers. So of course he would have a major role. Look at the promo posters. They focused on Rey - protagonist - and Kylo, antagonist.
Finn was conceived as a supporting character. Boyega actually had far more screen time than Adam in all three films. But it wasn’t enough.
Boyega wanted ....Rey.
Boyega wanted to be Rey’s boyfriend.
And now he is whining because he didn’t get that role.
He blames Adam, and he blames Rian Johnson. According to Boyega and his JCF groupies, DLF didn’t have the guts to go ahead with an inter racial romance. They are RACISTS.
Excuse me?
I despise DLF post TROS. But they cast a mostly non white group of actors as the leading characters in the excellent Rogue 1. They cast Sam Jackson as Mace Windu in the PT. They want to make solo series about Cassian Andor and Lando Calrissian. Both played by non white actors. They are anything but racist.
Boyega’s claims are ridiculous, childish and petty. But more than that...he’s a hypocrite.
Because there was an inter racial romance in the ST. Between Finn and Rose. And you know who helped quash it - Boyega.
He didn’t like the romance and therefore JJ Abrams erased it and reduced Loan Tran’s role to just one line in TROS. Just as he regressed Adam’s character and reduced his screen time to push Rey, supported by Terrio, and, I suspect, sadly, by Daisy Ridley. I might be wrong about Daisy, but her comments ‘I can’t be behind it (reylo) and ‘Rey doesn’t need a boyfriend’, both made before TROS, lead me to suspect that she had an influence on how her character’s story went. Whatever.
The treatment of Loan, Adam and even Domnhall Gleeson was nothing short of disgraceful. Hux was killed off early in the film and replaced by an older version of himself. Unnecessary. Kylo, the last of the real Skywalkers, was pushed into a background role. And Rose...
Words cannot express the disgust I feel for how Loan was treated. They even shoved a weird slug alien into the role of mechanic at the beginning of the film - a role she could easily have played, as Rose was a mechanic. If anyone had the right to accuse DLF of racism, it’s Loan. And, like Adam and Domnhall, she has done nothing but show dignity, class and admirable restraint post TROS.
Abrams and Terrio crapped all over these talented young actors, to push their favourites. Childish, petty and eventually....a huge mistake because ‘the Trio’ turned out to be  a crashing bore, as did Force Goddess Rey, Adoring Force Acolyte Finn and Han Poe Solo. But ultimately Boyega’s attitude is what truly sucks.
He helped scupper Finn/Rose. Because apparently an Asian girl wasn’t good enough to be Finn’s girlfriend. No, only the white girl was good enough. And that John, is one of the worst examples of racism I have ever seen. Despicable.

Unpopular Opinion: Optimus Prime isn't a very good person and that he's too glorified. (expect TFA Optimus)
strongly agree | agree | neutral | disagree | strongly disagree
What can I say except that there are many, many Optimus'/Convoy's out there and making a general opinion on them just doesn't work.
But I couldn't think of any Optimus I experienced who wasn't deep down a good person - lets make a roll call shall we? (includes all shows except RB and RBA + Bayverse)
G1 Optimus Prime - Good person, good leader, good father figure. Is forgiving towards wrong-doers without being a pushover. Couldn't think of anything he does that is sketchy
Beast Wars Optimus Primal - He has a harsh personality, hits Rattrap on the back of his head when the Rat talks bullshit and can get feral against his own teammates when they are being assholes like Depth Charge - but all in all, he is still a good leader and a good person. He simply has a more down-to-earth personality and a no-bullshit attitude.
He only ever reacts angrily because his team do stupid and jerkass stuff, but he is never unreasonable.
When he gets angry, you know why and you get why.
Also, he gave Dinobot a chance as a Maximal two times, so he too has a forgiving nature. And his dynamic with Depth Charge shows that he isn't petty either. ("I don't like him much either, but he's still a Maximal.")
He also had a nice moment with Blackarachnia in which he assures her they won't do anything about her coding against her will and that she is safe with them.
Beast Wars II Lio Convoy - The only thing you could call him out for is for refusing the father role when he found out he has a son. It took him half the show to actually call Lio Junior his son, but it made for a nice story! Also, he was willing to make peace with Galvatron in the show, showing his forgiving nature.
Beast Wars Neo Big Convoy - The shy and awkward one! He's a treat who learns to become a good teacher and leader with the help of his students, and he had this moment in which he tried to save Magmatron's life from Unicron. He is a hero with a strong sense of justice who needed to learn about proper teamwork and friendship and it's a really simple and sweet story.
Beast Machines Optimus Primal - This dude is such a trainwreck and I cannot in good conscious say he was always on the right side of things, I admit that.
The way the show treated the Vehicons was a little sketchy, because the Maximals technically became hypocrits, especially when it was about Silverbolt.
Forcing the "techno-organic is the real way to be" unto the non-organic characters feels a little weird, because the show never properly showed us why being without an organic side is supposed to be so bad. (And this matters because the good vs evil conflict isn't properly connected to the techno vs organic plot).
So this Oppy you can make the point that he isn't all that good as he pretends to be in his preachy cult leader role.
RiD01 Optimus Prime/Fire Convoy - Listen, this is the most naive and cute Optimus out there. This dude was willing to let Decepticons into their base just because they were like "We are good now :)" without even checking first.
His dynamic with his jerkass twin Magnus supports that - he doesn't want to fight his brother! The dude fucking pushes him off a cliff and he still tries to reason with him and doesn't fight back at all!
Don't you ever dare call this Prime a bad person, he's precious! xD
Armada Optimus Prime/Convoy - This is the dude who goes fucking feral at the end and shows just how much hatred and anger a Prime can store - but really just towards the end! The rest of the show he's your typical leader who doesn't do anything bad.
And when he made mistakes, he corrected them.
The fact that he always had this hatred and rage that he pushed aside all the time is the most interesting thing about this Prime, but even that doesn't make him a secretely bad person, because he still doesn't do anything bad. He's just an angry boi.
Energon Optimus Prime/Grand Convoy - This is technically the same Prime as Armada, and for once that shows - that anger Prime showed at the end of Armada is still present here and shows up a few times, especially when it's about Unicron.
But just like in Armada, he doesn't do anything bad.
He even tries to save Shockblast, the jerkiest jerk of the entire show, from Unicron's influence! And did just that with Galvatron at the end as well with the full intend to sacrifise himself to save everyone, including the Cons.
Cybertron Optimus Prime/Galaxy Convoy - My favourite Prime of them all - this Prime is just a damn Papa Bear! He will be considerate and loving towards his men, but if you bully his kids, you'll catch his hands bro.
He's bit a stoic dude, but shows compassion and kindness when he needs to.
He doesn't do anything sketchy either, and lets the few remaining Cons be part of the Transformers society in the end, despite their misdeeds before.
TFA Optimus Prime - The one you say is the only good Prime? Guess so, he's a good person as well! He makes mistakes (like insulting his team) but learns and grows from them.
But mate - he isn't a better person than any of the other Prime's I just listed. The only difference between TFA Prime and the other Primes so far is that TFA Prime is a narrative underdog who you are supposed to feel pity for.
All the other Prime's are leaders in a leader role, so just from a narrative standpoint, you don't feel the same sympathy for them as you do for TFA Prime.
But being an underdog doesn't translate to being a better person. The Joker in the Joker movie is also an underdog, but no one says he's a good person and that everything he does in this movie is justified.
TFA Prime just goes through more harsh shit that isn't Megatron and that's it. He isn't being a better hero or person for that.
TFP Optimus Prime - Yeah, I saw the opinion that him being too forgiving towards Megatron in the past is a flaw and that he cares more about this one silver shark more than about the safety of the universe - to which I say: WHEN???
This is a thing Ratchet accuses him off! But I couldn't remember a single scene in this show in which Optimus does, in fact, let Megatron go when he had the chance to kill him!
They always fought to the death when they did and Megatron surviving wasn't because Optimus was too nice. He's not Son Goku peeps.
And I have my issues with TFP Prime and how his characters is written, but being a secretely bad person aint it. He isn't a bad person.
If this is also about Starscream - he has every right to not trust Starscream. No one should trust Starscream! Starscream doesn't exist to be trusted by anyone.
You cannot call Prime a bad person because he elects to not trust the notorious backstabber, who, as Prime himself as pointed out, only does things for his own gain.
Also, he did try to make peace with Starscream after Megatron's "Death", and Starscream refused.
Is it about him destroying the Omega Lock? Nothing wrong with that! He chose to save Earth and all its Humanity over restoring a dead planet! Dead planet stays dead, alive planet stays alive. No one died by his decision to destroy the Omega Lock - but a whole ass planet would have died if he hadn't.
Like bro - I am not a big sucker for TFP Prime, but all these points I see floating around to prove that he is actually a bad person are kinda weird and biased.
Why should he have given Starscream a chance? To get backstabbed and used??? Which we know would have happened because this is fucking Starscream we are talking about??? A dude who doesn't care about Earth in the slightest and was happy about it being destroyed? Who only cares about power and winning this war, which is why he goes back to Megatron???
Should have sacrifised Earth? Would that have made him a true hero???
RiD15 Optimus Prime - This TFP Prime, just sterner, weaker and ready to start beef. But ultimately still a good guy.
Bayverse Optimus Prime - Here you got a Prime who kills his enemies! For anyone saying that TFP Prime is bad for not killing Megatron when he could, do you at least like Bayverse Prime for doing just that? Three times???
Even though he kills all his enemies, I never saw that as him being evil. He just doesn't give second chances. And it was refreshing to see a hero who actually does get rid of his enemies before they can do more shit.
He aint the nicest bot in town, but in the end he still did the heroic thing.
Movie 4 even gave him an arc about losing his faith in humanity and not wanting to help them anymore, but in the end he still does because his Barn Husband Cade convinces him to.
Good man I say, good man!
Prime Wars Optimus Prime - He tried to stop Windblade from making a mistake that would end in war with an emphasis on Windblade herself - saying that war is horrible and he doesn't want her to go through the same thing.
He then decides to help her anyway when he learns what the stakes are, is giving Megatron a second chance, keeps being on friendly footing with the dude and dies in an attempt to destroy the bad guy.
All in all, a good boy!
Cyberverse Optimus Prime - He forbids his soldiers from taking Energon from a foreign planet because the local fauna need it to survive - he constantly tries to do peace talks and doesn't give up on them - He dances in front of his crew to cheer them up - he shows remorse about what happened to Wild Wheel and tries to make things right again - he holds the dead Megatron in his arms and calls him his old friend-
Nothing bad about this home boy!
War for Cybertron Optimus Prime - he fucks up the whole damn time, but he has good intentions! He's a flawed individual who realises what his mistakes are!
Making mistakes, even as grand as his, doesn't make him a bad person!
So, no - I don't agree that Optimus is bad person and I also don't agree that TFA Prime is a better person than any other Prime.
Almost all these Prime's do good things, protect life, try to choose peace over conflict at least once and have a forgiving nature (even Bayverse Optimus, as he forgives humanity) - that all good guy qualities for me!
What more do you want from him to be a good person? Be nice to Starscream off all people???
Also, what do you even consider to be "too glorified"??? The newest media like WFC doesn't even depict him as a good leader because he fucks up so bad.

So. I think too much. Like, seriously. And recently, I got reminded of one of my favorite childhood movies. It’s called The Last Unicorn. Anyone heard of it? Yes? No? Just me?
But it’s a good movie! Creepy at some points, and there’s one really weird scene where a tree gets magic-ed to life and falls in love with the main male had the and then like…presses him to her breasts. Because magic gave a tree breasts. It’s a weird movie, okay? But it’s really, really good! It uses tone and mood really well and does a good job with making its antagonists all creepy and unsettling. The main character, the Unicorn, is super well done too and her character journey is like, really satisfying but also a tiny bit tragic. The point is, I like this movie a lot and I was recently reminded of it.
And, as I am prone to do, my brain mushed together two of my interests. So, Last Unicorn/Transformers crossover, anyone? I have some ideas. Obviously, it would involve transformers characters, but use elements of The Last Unicorn. I don’t think it’s be a copy and paste, like I wouldn’t just shove TF characters into the Last Unicorn plot. But I’d pick and choose certain story elements, and use those to build the crossover. Idk. I might actually do something with this, if there’s enough interest, but for now have my messy, half-complete brain vomit, which I’ll be listing below.
I’m thinking of doing this with TFA. In this verse, Optimus is of course the Last Unicorn. Except, he’s not really the last. But he thinks he is, and he lives in one of Cybertron’s last natural forests. The Red Bull is…idk which character. But he’s a bit reformatted by Autobot High Command to track and capture the unicorns. Unicorns would be, like, very valued and powerful. Thr Autobots want to control them all, or find a way to use their power for themselves. Cause unicorns can use the energy of their own sparks to do feats that would be impossible by normal standards, and they also have abnormally strong and powerful sparks. I’m not sure of an exact plot yet.
I could also see this working for TFP! Same ideas for unicorns being very powerful, except Optimus isn’t one in this one. Someone else on team prime would be. Or even a bot who want originally in Prime! Maybe, Megatron learns that, alongside the Iacon relics, he can harness the powers of the unicorns and so he tried to track down/hunt them when he finds them. Or! He learned how to use their powers early on in the war and his subsequent hunting of them drove them into hiding, and now the one on Team Prime has to keep it a secret. Idk, something like that?
Or, for a general crossover, I’d probably have it be where one of the characters is the Last Unicorn, and they venture out of their protected home to track down what happened to the rest. Like the movie! Except, maybe Cybertron has changed and advanced since they last left the forest, so they get caught? Or, alternatively, they manage to blend in, except the war starts and they can never find out what happens after that, and spend the war desperately trying to find clues.
Or for a more complete, but more general continuity AU, we keep the beginning of the previous idea, with the character leaving to find their kind, and in this one I’m thinking it’d be…Prowl? Idk. And the Red Bull is the natural enemy of the unicorns, and hunted most of the others down. Maybe he chases the Last Unicorn to near exhaustion, and the Autobots save him, and the Red Bull is working with the Decepticons? Literally idk, I’m just rambling.
Oh! Another idea! For any continuity, even TFA, or just a more general crossover. The Last Unicorn lives alone in their forest, and they’re desperately lonely. One day, they venture out if the safety of their forest, like in the movie, and also like in the movie they’re quickly found by the Red Bull. In this verse, the Red Bull is created by the Senate/Autobot High Command/whoever is Prime/whoever is in charge of Cybertron. I don’t have much else figured out yet, except that the Red Bull chased the rest of the unicorns to its master(s), where they were made into living statues, like basically frozen in place and conscious, and then covered in liquid metal that hardened in order to imprison them. And whoever did it, is draining their sparks of power because they want to use the powers of the unicorns for themselves, and also because keeping the unicorns as they are makes for lovely art because unicorns are, like in the movie, viewed as some of the most beautiful creatures on the planet.
And…..yeah. That’s all I got. Let me know your thoughts, if y’all want to. Also, please tell me I wasn’t the only one who watched and loved The Last Unicorn, as weird as it was.

Luke Skywalker vs Rey... Nobody
I hate the argument that a lot of sequel trilogy stans use whenever anyone criticized Rey or labels her a Mary Sue. It’s probably the weakest argument a sequel stan can ever possibly say to me. (Besides the people hate Rey because she’s a women argument).
Lets compare them shall we?
Luke Skywalker in A New Hope is whiny, inexperienced, and very naive. There is multiple moments in a new hope that proves this. When he was whining about not wanting to stay on the moisture farm and wanting to join the Academy like his friend, Biggs. He constantly was slightly annoying throughout the film, especially to Han. When Han named his price and Luke was like “We can buy our own ship with that!” or when Han was flying the Milennium Falcon and Luke was practically yelling in his ear to go into hyperspace. Han and Luke did not get along at first because of Luke’s behavior. Luke went against Obi-Wan’s orders and saved Princess Leia, not thinking of the consequences. How he could possibly be killed or put in a cell with the Princess. He doesn’t think of a plan to get out AFTERWARDS only the spur of the moment. He was constantly shown to be inexperienced and needed his friends help or HE WOULD HAVE DIED THE FIRST MOVIE. While on the millennium falcon, Obi-Wan taught him things about the force. Maybe not a lot but he knew how to use the simple basics of it. Like sensing the force and letting it guide your actions (as Obi-Wan was trying to teach him before). For once Luke listened and trusted Obi-Wan and destroyed the death star.
Lets do Rey now WHOOP. So far the only personality flaw she seems to have is that she’s also naive? She had the same wide-eyed innocence as Luke had but it’s different and here’s why. Rey never suffers for any of her so-called almost non-existent flaws. Rey is experienced enough to hold her own in a fight against men WAY stronger then her (that’s realistic though but that’s one tool in her belt). She’s bilingual. She can fly the millennium falcon better then Han Solo even though she never flew one before. She is constantly saving people by herself, never the one being saved. (Before y’all bust my balls, Rey escaped that damn starkiller base by her damn self. Luke didn’t and couldn’t). She uses powers that takes years to learn and the excuse is the force dyad. So she downloads Kylo’s skills and training. Great. Magnificent. Rey is on a amazing start. And this is the first movie! She can only get stronger from here.
Luke is more mature and responsible in ESB. He’s a respected hero of the rebellion. Luke still struggles using the force. Even with the training Luke goes through with Obi-Wan he had to truly focus to pull the lightsaber to him. Plus as a common occurrence, he still needed help from his friends. He’s not invincible. He actually gets severely hurt (makes sense). He goes to Dagobah to get trained (because unlike Rey he doesn’t have the “learn force jedi shit that takes years to learn” cheatcode). And then he’s impatient. He wants to learn how to use the force so he can help his friends. Luke is again reckless, impatient, and he’s also insecure in his own belief. Him not believing he can lift the X-wing was why he couldn’t. Against his master’s and Obi-Wan’s orders he decides to save his friends. It’s a noble reason to but it still got him fucked up. He got his hand cut off, he was beaten and humiliated, and then he was told a horrifying revalation that twisted around everything he knew and believed. He was scared of Vader, you can see it on his face, but he did not succumb to fear.
Rey goes to the island to convince Luke to go help them fight the war. Why doesn’t Leia go instead? Who knows. Why does Luke act the way he does? Who knows. Luke dismissed her and was quite rude to her. Rey was having cute little talks with Kylie Renner in their little force dyad BS. She called him a monster and a murderous snake. I like the insults. It fills me with joy! But then she finds out the truth. Rey did do something reckless and stupid but as usual she doesn’t suffer the consequences to her actions. Technically she’s morally superior to Luke because she saw the good in him and felt like she could turn him to the light (after slicing his face open. Ok). Rey decides to give herself up to the First Order thinking Kylo would save her. And he does. So she wasn’t even wrong... Rey fight the very elite guards of the (bootleg emperor palpatine) Supreme Leader Snoke. Reminder, TFA and TLJ are like 3-4 days apart. She had zero training within these days. Luke refused to train her so don’t start that bullshit. Luke trained her for like 5 minutes and none of that training had anything to do with lightsaber dueling. Rey is then told she was a nobody. Now why did Rey cry about this? I truly don’t know. How the hell would Kylo accurately know that Rey’s parents were nobody? Didnt Rey been know this from the force awakens? Eh whatever. She tries to force pull the lightsaber from Kylo Ren and do a dumbass tug a war instead of walking up and grabbing it. It reminds me of JJ and Rian fighting over where the star wars sequels). Anakin must be screaming and yelling from above... or below... idk. The lightsaber then breaks. Rey then saves her friends by showing her once again superior piloting skills that rival or is possibly better then Anakin Skywalker himself. Hitting 3 in one shot? You go girl! She then uses the force to effortlessly move the big ass boulders out of the entrance to save the resistance. Last I remember... Luke struggled to do that with a few way smaller rocks and was also focusing hard to do.
Luke is finally at jedi status! Woohoo! Now Luke first saves Han from Jabba. It shows his very dark side tendencies by choking the guards (like father like son). Luke thinks of a actual plan before going in (CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT). Luke “Chanel Boots” Skywalker goes to Yoda on his death bed. All he wants is answers but Yoda wants to be cryptic as fuck. Luke has been lied to for years by his mentors and his family. Luke’s father isn’t hero Anakin Skywalker but actually a big, asthmatic, merciless, murderous asshole who has a choking kink. Luke then says he cannot kill his own father and Obi-Wan, who believes Vader isn’t a human but a machine, has no faith in Luke. He believes that Luke will fail and the Empire would win. Luke feels the conflict and good in him that nobody else does. He knows that Vader is unloyal to the emperor and he actually cares about his own son. When he is with Han and Leia he realizes he made a mistake and has a bad feeling about it. (*gasp* Luke is not being super reckless). He’s not arrogant (not in anyway) but he’s completely confident that Vader would turn. (He isn’t flawless there is still obvious problem with this plan he has. He fails, the empire wins. He dies, the emperor wins. Vader doesn’t turn, Luke fails. Luke almost succumbs to the dark side and it’s actually plausible he might fully turn. He wants to desperately save his friends and his father has done horrible things to Luke. Luke had every reason to kill Vader. But he doesn’t. He throws the lightsaber away and foolishly puts his life in Vader’s hand. Luke doesn’t save the galaxy because he can make things levitate with the force. He wins because he had the strength to resist the dark side and has so much love and pure good in his heart he saw the good in his father.
Rey starts off with a training session (no idc it’s too fucking late now. 3 movies in? Is she doing reverse character development?) and basically Poe gets mad at Rey for not accompanying them on missions. I still don’t know why she needs training, when she is at a decent strength to fight elite guards, fight kylo ren, and a variety of other things that typically takes a long time to learn. After finding out Palpatine returned, Rey goes on a mission to find the way finder almost like a shitty videogame. I don’t even want to talk about the force dyad anymore because it’s fucking dumb. Rey gets chased by the force order and hear this out, FORCE HEALS (i forgot what the animal was but idrc). Which means Rey had the power to stop the painful truth of death themself. Why am I not surprised? Rey did something that no other jedi nor sith or jedi have ever done this. Anakin went to the dark side to save the ones he love. This movie was just a slap in the face to Anakin. Rey then fights Kylo Ren and lost??? again it seems a little too late and it also didn’t make sense. Rey defeated those guards all by herself with Kylo needed help from her. She’s obviously the better lightsaber duelist but hey, at least JJ was trying to mellow her out a bit. Rey stabs him while our beloved Princess died. She then regrets her decision and as always, doesn’t have any consequence to her actions. By the force I forgot, the whole scene where she is revealed as a Palpatine? Completely invalidates the first two movies but eh whatever. She uses a power that only the elite sith does... something Kylo Ren himself could not do (and he’s on the dark side). Rey “killed” Chewie but actually no she didn’t because Chewie is perfectly fine. Rey is supposed to be all dark and edgy now, “you don’t know me” BS. Yeah I’m sorry I won’t tolerate this because my only allergy is the fish smelling coochie bullshit called the sequel trilogy. Rey got scared of her dark self. Well at least JJ tried? Rey then almost gives up but Luke was like “nah fam you cant”. Rey dies trying to fight Palpatine but then as usual, she gets zero consequence cuz Benny Simp saved her using the force. Then she kissed him... no. No. No. This made my eyes burn like they just threw bleach in my eyes. It made no sense. “A Kiss of Gratitude”? What the shit was that? GIRLS DO NOT INSPIRE TO BE REY.

Story Summary: Peggy and Steve set things straight after she shoots at him. Set During CA: TFA
A/N: For Steggy Week Day 2: Favorite Moment. Who doesn’t love when she shoots him? I love it. So, here’s the missing scene, because during my re-watch I noticed that the first time we hear him call her Peggy was right after Private Lorraine kisses him. Then we go from her shooting him to the bar after Bucky dies, then right to the super sexually charged “You’re late,” at the Hydra facility. This… fills that in? Maybe? Hopefully.
~*~
“I don’t think one thing, Captain. Not one thing.”
Peggy hightailed it to the ladies’ room after she put the gun down, forcing the emotion welling in her throat to stop before it became tears in her eyes. She took a deep breath as the door swung closed behind her, offering her some much-needed solitude.
She’d been fooling herself, obviously, if she’d dreamed that Steve Rogers was different. If his sharp wit and calculating mind appealed to her, that didn’t change the fact that he was a man, and seemed all too happy to get into the same trouble every man she’d ever met got into.
Hadn’t this been what he wanted, to be just like every other man?
She pressed her hand on each of the toilet stall doors, letting them swing open to be sure she was alone before she set her hands on the sink and tried to slow her pounding heart. She looked up at herself in the mirror and felt the pain morph to disgust.
And yet, she still spent two weeks’ pay on that damn dress.
She thought she’d sent a message last night. She didn’t know how much clearer she could have been.
“Get it together, Carter,” she whispered to herself, pushing away from the sink. She should have known better. She should have expected it. Even the way he stuttered at her after he was caught, calling her Peggy instead of Agent Carter, bringing up fondu… he had no idea how to talk to women, but it certainly seemed to knew how to kiss them.
She might not have been so mad about it, except she was the one hoping to be kissed by him. Dreaming of it. Fantasizing about it. She had been since he was thin boned and she was worried she’d break him if she crawled into his lap to kiss him senseless.
Peggy knew better. She’d been burned before. She shouldn’t have put all her hope in one endearing man.
She turned, pushing her way into a stall and began to unbutton her skirt when she heard the door swing open again.
“Wait, so tell me now!” The soft voice was unfamiliar to Peggy, and she couldn’t see through the stall door. She sat quietly, fully dressed, hoping to be ignored.
“Well,” a much more animated voice started, low and deep like honey, “so I start saying that all the women owe him their thanks, right?”
Private Lorraine.
Anger and frustration and betrayal welled up in Peggy’s throat, and she swallowed hard as quietly as she could, afraid of giving herself away.
“Uh huh, go on!”
Peggy can just about see Private Lorraine preening in the mirror through the crack. “And he’s all cute and nervous, hemming and hawing, so I just grabbed his tie, pulled him back into the stacks, and laid one on him.”
“You didn’t!” the other woman exclaimed, excited and scandalized at the same time.
Peggy rolled her eyes. Lorraine had a reputation around the base, as did most women if the men’s talk was to be believed. She wasn’t interested in lambasting the woman any further, deserved or not. She was, however, quite interested in whatever the woman had to say next.
“I did.” There was satisfaction in her words.
“And?”
“And what?”
“And? How was he?”
“Fine.” She could see Lorraine shrug and turn back to the mirror. “I caught him off guard. He wasn’t into it.”
“No! You can’t be serious.”
Lorraine hummed. “I mean, he’s probably a good kisser, but I couldn’t get him warmed up enough to find out. Carter interrupted us.” She sighed.
“Maybe you should try again.”
She laughed heartily. “Oh, if you saw the way those two bickered after she caught him? No. No way am I getting in the middle of that. Would have been a catch, but I’ll let him go. I’ve still got my eyes set on Washington in the 5th Airborne.”
The two chatted on, leaving the bathroom after getting the gossip out. Peggy just sat for a long, long time.
~*~
“I don’t think one thing, Captain. Not one thing.”
He shook his head, trying to find a way to keep her voice from ringing in his ears.
It didn’t work. He didn’t think he was going to get any sleep tonight.
The connection they’d had was tenuous, at best, and he’d thought it was all in his head until she showed up with that red dress on. When she’d uttered those words, “the right partner,” his heart had skipped a beat, finally feeling on steady ground. Bucky, of course, had a few things to say after she left. What Steve hadn’t anticipated was spilling the whole story to Bucky over another pint, detailing from the first punch he saw her throw at Hodge to the backseat of the car in Brooklyn, from Fondue to the red dress.
“Jesus,” Bucky had laughed, clapping him on the shoulder. “You’re hopeless.” He laughed. “Still the same idiot I left back in the States.”
Steve had looked at him, confused.
“She likes you, stupid.” Bucky laughed, and tipped his head to the door she’d come through now hours ago. “You don’t put on a dress like that for someone you don’t like.”
“She just stopped in,” Steve stuttered. “I’m sure she was going to see other people.”
Bucky had looked at him, hard, and he knew he was kidding himself. Then and there he decided that the little looks, the light flirting, the line he was afraid to cross, absolutely needed some crossing.
Unfortunately, Private Lorraine had crossed a line first, and he was left as confused as when he’d started.
“I don’t think one thing, Captain. Not one thing.”
He couldn’t get it out of his head, couldn’t shake the feeling that he’d well and truly messed up.
Her shooting at him had been a pretty clear sign of that.
“I can hear you thinking from over here.” Bucky moaned from his own bunk. “How am I supposed to get any sleep with you thinking that loud?”
“Sorry, Buck- I just—”
“So, Lorraine kissed you. You know how many guys on base she’s kissed?” He laughed, folding his hands behind his head. “Pretty much all of them.”
Steve leaned back and fluffed his pillow. “I don’t think that makes it any better.”
“No, probably not.” Bucky laughed. “Steve. Just put on your big boy pants and tell her how you feel, ok?” Bucky turned at look at him. “I’m telling you, that red dress means she’s all in and you just gotta let her know that you are, too.”
“Maybe you’re right.”
“I’m always right.”
~*~
He caught her in the hallway outside her office, the building mostly empty for the night as she went to lock it up. She caught his eyes and turned, opening the door again and holding it for him to follow in after her. She shut it and crossed her arms, waiting silently.
He spoke after a long moment. “I’m sorry.”
“For what?” Peggy’s tone was flat.
Steve nodded, hands stuffed in his pockets. “Yeah, I—” He looked down and then back up, earnestness written on his face. “I’m bad at this. You were right, when you said I don’t know anything about women.”
Peggy looked away and then back. “I often am.”
He nodded gain, taking a breath. “She kissed me, Peg, and I froze. I didn’t know what to do.”
Peggy fought hard to avoid laughing. She might not be so quick to amusement if she hadn’t heard Lorraine’s side of it this morning. “So, you kissed her back?”
He cringed, knowing the words that were going to leave his mouth were the truth, but not what she wanted or needed to hear. “Yeah it—it seemed rude not to.”
Peggy did laugh, then. Big, loud guffaws that she couldn’t hold back. “You kissed her back,” she asked through the laughs, “because you didn’t want to be rude?”
Steve couldn’t help it, his eyebrows wrinkled and he shot right back at her. “Hey! I’ve never had a girl grab me by the shirt and kiss me before! I didn’t know what the protocol was!”
Peggy couldn’t help but keep laughing. “Protocol? Proto—” She chuckled, the laughter finally settling down. “You push her away and say no thank you, Steve.” Peggy took a deep, high breath, still letting out little twitters as she gained control over herself.
Steve, however, was still incensed. “Peggy, it’s not funny.”
She tried very hard to not laugh again, breathing in deep through her nose. “Oh, yes it is.”
He stepped forward, getting closer to her. “I’m trying to apologize here.”
She cleared her throat and stood tall. “Yes, yes. You’re…” She took a deep breath, then had to bite her lip again. “You are. Yes.”
“Peggy,” he reached out, taking her hands, and he caused her breaths to stop and her to bite her lip in a different way. “I don’t want to kiss Private Lorraine. What happened was a mistake and I’m sorry you saw it, but… I don’t want to kiss anyone but you. Just you.
She started breathing again, her eyes bright and holding his gaze. “Steve…”
“You’re the right partner, Peggy. I just… I didn’t think someone like you could be interested in a guy like me in a million years. But when you showed up last night in that dress…” he drifted off, eyes glazing as he remembered and smile blooming on his face, “Well, Bucky says I’m an idiot, but I’m an idiot who got the hint.”
She smiled brightly. “It was quite a large hint.”
“I’m… bad at this,” he confessed, squeezing her hands gently. “I don’t have a lot of practice and sometimes you’re gonna have to just hit me over the head with things.”
She took a deep breath and puller her hands away, sliding them up his arms to his shoulders. “Then let me hit you over the head with this. I don’t want to kiss anyone but you, either. And I’ve felt that way for quite a long time. Serum or no serum, soldier or dancing monkey.” She let her hand play over his collar as her demeanor turned hard. “But I’m no fool, Steven, and if you’re serious, as I am, I won’t aim at the shield next time.”
“There won’t be a next time,” he replied quickly and seriously, taking her hips in his hands and pulling her close.
Peggy smiled just a bit, looking into his eyes, hopeful. “Promise?”
He smiled back as her hands slid around his neck. “Promise.” He lifted one hand, letting it push a strand of hair back behind her ear. Their breaths mingled for a long moment, and Steve spoke quietly, a half-smile on his face that Peggy couldn’t decipher. “So, does this mean that I can kiss you now?”
She rolled her eyes at him. “If you don’t, I shall have to really hit you over the head.”
He moved almost before she finished speaking, slanting his warm lips over hers. It was mere seconds before she was melting under his kiss. A little unpracticed, a little unsure, but what he didn’t have in technique he made up for in enthusiasm. If she’d had any doubts before, she knew now: he hadn’t been lying, he didn’t want to kiss Private Lorraine. Steve wasn’t just a fine kisser, he was a lovely kisser.
And now, he was all hers.

-How tf did Steve get the flash drive in the vending machine without the vending machine dude noticing i-
-“Captain Rogers” “Neighbor >:(“ petty little shit
-Steve’s observation skills are A+++++ as we can see in the elevator scene
-More reckless endangerment like imagine just going through your work day and captain america falls through the ceiling
-Steve stole someones gym clothes after escaping SHIELD. let that sink in
-Natasha has about a billion masks on at all times (“I only act like i know everything, rogers” “the person that programmed this was slightly smarter than me. slightly” “the truth isn’t all things to all people all of the time”) also she’s quite insecure, especially when it comes to being perceived as a good, trustable person
-Meanwhile, Steve’s consistently himself even if it costs him
-Bucky trained Natasha in the Red Room (at least in the comics) so theres a good chance she made the connection between him and Steve and withheld that information
-The honeymoon in New Jersey😭😭
-Steve and Nat both have very different, but entirely valid approaches to situations: Steve’s is that of a tactiction, Nat’s is that of a spy’s. We see this in the scene at Pentagon City Mall
-Steve’s looking for someone with shared life experience and bucky has that

-“Cuz thats really not your style, Rogers” “you’re right, it’s not” *rubs sitwell’s arm* “it’s hers”
-Steve and Nat banter Steve and Nat banter
-Sam is just *clenches fist* so cool
-Nat immediately knows where Bucky’s gonna shoot when he lands on the Sam’s car and later she knows how to affectively fight him best because he trained her so she knows his fighting style
-Steve alone saying “Bucky?” was enough to break Bucky’s conditioning the slightest bit
-Sam met Steve like 36 hours ago and he’s already being arrested and made into a government fugitive with him and it won’t be the last time
-Steve is the only one entirely restrained
-“Even when I had nothing I had Bucky”
-Everyone meets Sam and is just like “aight let’s trust him with the highest clearance security information”
-Steve looks super nauseous all through the scene where Rumlow is handcuffing him and later when he says, “he looked right at me, like he didn’t even know me” he sounds sick and choked up
-Steve carries a lot of weight on his shoulders
-Steve’s “Bucky?” after the highway battle and Steve’s “Bucky?” in Bucky’s memory in the Vault Scene being different (in Bucky’s memory, he looks more heartbroken)
-Sebastian’s acting. Just all of it. And the way Bucky just opens his mouth for the mouth guard before he gets wiped....heartbreaking
-Steve realizes an organization that was meant to protect the people has become its own antithesis so hes like “aight. get rid of it” damn that’s the right mindset right there
-In the memory scene after Sarah’s funeral, Steve is so out of it and distressed, that he can’t find his key but Bucky immediately knows exactly where it is and what he’s lookin for
-Bucky was vain as shit and also had money: tailored suit, hair w shit ton of brylcreem in it
-The big breakfast Steve had was at Sam’s house
-The whole scene on the helicarrier between Steve and Bucky is incredible here are some highlights: Steve never backing down from a fight until it’s Bucky he’s fighting, Steve dropping the shield for him, Steve being ready to die if living means he’s living in a world where Bucky’s alive and doesnt remember him
-Their acting in that scene is so genuine and heartbreaking i can’t- i can’t-
-Steve’s got a comm i’m so chances are Nat, Sam and Maria can hear a portion of what’s going down on the helicarriers
-“I’m with ya to the end of the line” is basically “til death do us part” so the equivalent of wedding vows between Bucky and Steve is what ultimately broke Bucky’s conditioning
-When bucky fell, steve didn’t jump after him but when Steve fell, bucky went after him even tho he’s brainwashed. don’t think about steve’s guilt surrounding that. youll only get sad
-Bucky waited until Steve took a breath to leave him
-Sam waited by Steve’s side in the hospital
-In the end credit scene, Bucky and Steve originally were supposed to make eye contact, but the writers didn’t want it established that Bucky remembered Steve until CW
----
Every time I watch it from here on out, I’m gonna add a lil more as I notice hehehe

Don’t Be Afraid: Poe Dameron x Solo!Reader - Chapter Eleven
Tumblr media
Chapter Eleven: Two Roads Diverged
Series Masterlist
Plot: Y/n and Ben confront each other after years of not seeing each other.
Warnings: Language, minor character death, violence, angst but that’s fairly obvious.
Word Count: 5.5k
A/N: Without a doubt, this was the hardest chapter to write so far. I had to take periodical breaks because I was hurting my own heart 😂 The title is also inspired by the Robert Frost poem. The next chapter will be the last one that takes place during TFA and then it’s onto TLJ! (Excuse the uncountable amount of typos)
——————
“Come on, Ben, where are you?” Y/n mumbled to herself, Yavin 4 was large and she was looking for one person. She didn’t know where her uncle had built his training academy and the pitch black night sky didn’t help her in her search. She wasn’t near giving up though, she’d fly the entirety of the planet to make sure that her brother was safe.
Use the Force, Y/n…
She almost steered the Falcon into a clearing of trees she was so spooked by the voice she’d heard. She turned around to see who had stowed away on the ship, yet found no one.
Use the Force to find him, Y/n
She shook her head and turned back around, “I’m going insane, I have to be.”
Let it guide you to where you need to go...
Y/n growled, she’d seen and heard more ridiculous things, “Okay, Force entity or whatever the hell you are, we’ll do it your way.”
She shut her eyes, as she’d seen her mother do several times, and tried for the first time to let the Force guide her. Her hands rested on the controls of the Falcon as it hovered above an empty field, waiting for her captain to tell her where to go. Y/n breathed deeply as she tried to picture where Ben was, after a moment she saw the temple’s structure clearly and opened her eyes. She turned the ship left and sped towards where she needed to be. She couldn’t explain the intricacies of how she knew that she was near it, she just knew.
Her dreadful suspicions were confirmed when she saw the flames.
Y/n landed the Falcon far enough away that it wasn’t in danger of being catching on fire and booked it down the ramp. The smoke caused her to cough but she ran towards the collapsing building regardless.
“BEN!!” she screamed, “Ben, where are you?!”
Littering the ground were dead bodies of Padawans, the stench of death covered only by the overwhelming scent of the fire. Y/n began to panic as she checked the lifeless faces for Ben’s. She turned in circles, frantically scanning for any sign of her brother, or anyone still alive for that matter. After a few minutes of searching, a shriek rang through the air that caused her to whip around,
“RUN!!”
A young girl was running towards her as if her life depended on it, “Run!!”
Y/n looked around confusedly as to what she was supposed to be running from, but found nothing. When she turned back to the girl, she was suspended in the air clawing at her throat manically. She looked like she was trying to scream for help, but the life drained from her face before Y/n could try and aid her. The girl’s eyes closed and she crumpled to the ground to reveal the culprit of her murder.
Ben stood behind her with an outstretched hand and a menacing glare.
Y/n stood frozen, shock overtaking her body as she watched her brother drop his posture at the sight of her. He jogged over to his sister, a concerned look on his face,
“Y/n, what are you doing here?”
As Ben approached her, she took a step back from him and held a hand up in self defense, “Ben, what the hell was that? What’s happened here?”
“Luke,” he stated, “He sensed my power, he tried to kill me. He turned most of his students against me too.”
“W-What?” Y/n stuttered, “How is that possible?” “He’s afraid of what I can do,” Ben stated, full of pride and anger, “I’ve discovered more power than him or any other Jedi could ever dream of having. And he,” he pointed towards the burning wreckage “Tried to kill me in order to stop me from fulfilling my destiny.”
“Ben, that can’t be true. Y-your destiny is to be a Jedi, why would Uncle Luke want you dead?”
“No, the Jedi are a dying breed, as they deserve to be. I’ve put an end to them, and Luke received what was coming to him.”
“Ben,” Y/n whispered, “What did you do to him?”
Ben’s eyes bore into Y/n’s, adding to the intensity of their moment, “I killed him.” Y/n stumbled back, her hand shakily reaching up to cover her mouth. Her brother, her best friend, had killed their uncle and his students. She couldn’t even recognize the person standing in front of her, this wasn’t the Ben she’d grown up with. And while she hadn’t been there to witness what had transpired, she knew that he was telling her a distorted side of the story. It couldn’t have been that simple as Luke trying to kill his own nephew.
“Did you do all of this?” she raised her voice while pointing to the burning temple, “The fire? How many other Padawans did you kill? What am I supposed to tell Mom when she finds out you killed her brother?”
“Don’t go back, come with me.” “What are you talking about?” “Y/n,” Ben stepped towards her, she was in just enough shock to not back away from his presence, “We both know the gift you have, the power you hold if you just gave into it. Snoke could teach us both, if you come with me.” “Who’s Snoke?” Y/n asked.
“He’s wise, he’s opened my eyes to the true nature off the Jedi. He’ll take us both as apprentices,” Ben urged as twisted joy rose in his voice, “You and I could bring order to the galaxy together.” Y/n couldn’t believe what she was hearing. She knew that the Dark Side now surrounded her brother, she could see it in his darker than usual eyes. The way he spoke of murdering their uncle and the power he contained, it wasn’t Ben. But she refused to believe that he was completely gone.
“No,” she said, worry audible in her voice, “Ben, whoever this Snoke is, he-he’s messing with your mind somehow. This is not who you are,” she took his hand, “Come home with me, I’ll help you. Mom can help you. Just come back home.” Ben’s brows furrowed, his face hardened and he yanked his hand out of Y/n’s grip, “You’re turning into one of them, a Jedi.” He spat the last word as if it was poison, Y/n shook her head quickly, “Ben, I’m not a Jedi, I’m your sister and I don’t believe the things you’re saying. This isn’t my brother-”
“Your brother is dead!” he yelled.
Y/n’s breath caught in her chest at Ben’s words, he looked like a mad man. Hair untamed, pupils blown in the worst way, jaw clenched and a threatening stance. Tears began to flood her eyes, there was no way to reason with him.
“If you’re going to go down this path,” she cried, “Do not expect me to follow you.” She didn’t make it more than three steps when her brother took hold of her arm with a vice like grip, keeping her in place.
“If you’re not with me, you’re against me.” Ben whispered ominously.
Y/n looked up, taking in the possibilities of what might happen next. There was only one if Ben was only dealing in black or white choice making, and Y/n was sure it was going to break her heart. “Then I suppose I’m against you.”
The siblings stared each other down much like they had when they were bickering children, the temple’s flames spreading around them. Y/n had stupidly left her blaster in the ship, she had no weapons on her while her brother had his clipped to his waist. She looked down and saw her brother’s hand slowly move to his saber, as if to not alarm her to his plan. Ben didn’t give his sister enough credit for how attentive or quick she was, her eyes flickered again to his movements and snapped into action. She shot her hand out and summoned the freed lightsaber to her hand, igniting it quickly and raising it. Ben’s eyes swelled with rage, she’d been practicing using the Force while he’d been away and she wasn’t going to make it easy on him. Though he could see the anguish in her eyes at the though of fighting him, he could try and use her emotions against her to catch her off guard.
His opened his free palm behind him, the lightsaber from the deceased Padawan flying from her hand and into his. Y/n saw it zoom through the air and as he ignited to raise the blue blade, she pried her arm from his grip and turned to meet it with her own. She’d only held a lightsaber once in her life, when she was a child and Luke let her try his out, much to Han and Leia’s chagrin. She didn’t have the training or skill that Ben did, but she was determined not to let her brother hurt her. She had to fight him, the person she loved most in the galaxy, even if it almost killed her.
Ben spun around with his blade with the goal of hitting her torso, but Y/n moved fast enough to block his hit. She walked backwards in fear as Ben moved towards her with an animalistic look in his eyes, like she was prey to be slaughtered. He raised his saber above his head and slammed the blade against hers with so much force, Y/n thought she might drop her weapon. She held tight to it and took a clumsy swing at his leg, which he easily dodged. He aimed again at her abdomen, a hit he almost made if she hadn’t thought quick and spun to her right, just as he’d done a moment before. Ben was her teacher, he was showing her how to fight without him even realizing it. Though the strikes he was trying to make were to kill, the ones she made were to block. Ben’s vision was compromised, the only end goal he had at the moment was to eliminate anyone who objected to his twisted endeavors. In that moment, Y/n realized that she may not be exempt from his delusions simply because she was family.
Ben growled as he swung his saber towards her legs, Y/n sprung into the air and crouched down when she hit the ground again to dodge the swing he took in the air above her. Ben swept her legs out from under her, Y/n fell on her back and watched as Ben lowered his blade towards her neck. He was going to kill her. She raised her lightsaber up to meet his and let out a cry as their eyes met, she’d never thought in a million years that they’d be in this position. She pushed the blade away and rose to her feet quickly, tears began to hit her cheeks. She began moving backwards again, closer to the flaming temple as they twisted their wrists to block each other’s hits. The heat that surrounded them was harsh, sweat began to bead and stream down their faces. After dodging another hit from Ben, Y/n kicked him in the stomach and caused him to fall back, but she made no effort to try and run from him. She’d seen what had happened to the helpless Padawan. She stood there amongst the flames, awaiting her brother’s next move,
“Don’t do this, Ben,” Y/n yelled, “I love you.”
He snarled as he stood up and came charging towards her, Y/n spun around and raised her blade to meet the one that come crashing down against it. They were facing away from each other, back to back and weapons raised, the flames closing in on them with only a tight path left to escape. Y/n was putting all the strength she had into pushing Ben’s saber away, but he was much stronger than her and she felt her body giving into it’s sadness.
“Don’t do this to me, Ben,” she whined, the lump in her throat practically choking her, “Please don’t make me do this.”
“There is nothing,” Ben hissed from behind me, “You could possibly do that could hurt me.” Y/n groaned as she tried to continue pushing Ben’s blade away from slicing through her chest, when suddenly a memory came into her mind,
“Wanna bet?” Summoning all the strength she could, she shoved up and pushed the saber away from her. She ran through the flames and they licked at her legs, she could hear Ben’s cry of anger and that was her cue to stop running. She turned around to see her brother sprinting towards her, a few hundred feet away, lightsaber drawn and furious. Y/n raised a hand up towards him and used the Force to shove Ben backwards, he flew through the air and landed painfully after slamming into a tree.
Y/n’s eyes pooled with fresh tears as she waited a few seconds to see if he would rise, when he didn’t she ran to his limp body. She knelt down next to him, he was knocked out cold. She shakily placed her fingers against his neck to feel for a pulse, holding her own breath until she found his. Was she supposed to be relieved? Ben had fallen to the Dark Side, had tried to kill her in his manic state, yet it was her innocent brother that lay helpless in front of her right then. She took a few seconds to sob over him, thinking of their parents, their home, all the memories she cherished with him. He’d been the one to bring her to Han and Leia, she owed him everything for what he had done for her. He had given her a new life, one he would now be absent from.
“I’m not going to give up on you,” she promised, “One day, I’ll bring you back home.” With that, she gently touched his hand, deactivated her lightsaber and ran towards the Falcon. Once she was in the air, she set course for a return to Chandrila and jumped to lightspeed. She wept furiously in the pilot’s seat at what her brother had done, what she’d done, how their lives had just taken two very unexpected turns. And while she had promised to bring him back, she knew it would be a long time before she ever saw him again. Y/n had thrown the lightsaber on the co-pilot’s seat when she’d entered the cockpit, she hesitantly picked it back up and examined it. Ben had committed horrible acts with the weapon, he’d slaughtered their uncle and his students, he’d tried to kill his own sister. She should have left it there, but something in her compelled her to take it. She had no intention of picking it up ever again, unless she needed to, though she felt safer holding onto it. She hid it in a deep pocket of her coat, and vowed to never show it to anyone. For the rest of the journey home, she sat with her knees to her chest crying.
Han and Leia were waiting outside when she returned. After making sure she was okay, they were both furious with her. They demanded to know where she’d gone, she lied and said that she hadn’t been able to sleep and decided to take a flight. She apologized, went inside and locked herself in her room for the day.
A few days later, she planned on telling them the truth. But before she could, an X-Wing showed up outside the Solo homestead. It was Luke. He had survived somehow and broke the news to their family that Ben had turned to the Dark Side. Han yelled, Leia sobbed, but Y/n stayed silent.
Han and Leia separated soon after that, Y/n chose to stay with her mother. Han had agreed she should, he was planning to return to a life of smuggling and didn’t want his daughter caught up in the business. Han took Chewie, Y/n and Leia took C-3PO and the Solos abandoned their home.
Luke went into hiding.
The First Order rose to power.
The Resistance was formed.
For the rest of the galaxy, the war began at a certain point in time. No one knew that the war truly began on Yavin 4, the night that a brother and sister aimed their weapons at each other. —————
“You’re a monster!”
I stood silent, my tears freezing to my face as I stood face to face with my brother. There weren’t enough words to describe how I was feeling at the sight of him…Furious for having just killed our father, heartbroken over the fact that he had slipped further into the Dark Side, and determined to protect Finn and Rey from his wrath.
“It’s just us now,” Ben’s eyes flickered to me, “Han Solo can’t save you.” The remark hit home, but he was about to learn that we could defend ourselves quite effectively. Especially after the events that had transpired through the day.
Rey grunted and raised her blaster towards him before I could tell her to drop it, Ben raised his hand and she flew through the air screaming. Finn yelled her name just before she hit a tree and fell to the snow covered ground. I stood there watching in horror, Finn raced to her side and cradled her head in his lap.
“I thought you might appreciate that,” Ben said, causing me to flashback to six years ago when I’d done the same thing to him, “Irony can be cruel, can’t it?” I turned to him, a new wave of anger sweeping over me as I examined my brother’s state. His injury from Chewie’s shot was bleeding, turning the snow beneath his side to a red dotted pattern. “I didn’t believe it when I felt your presence,” he remarked, “I didn’t think you’d be so foolish as to come here.” “It was foolish of you to think I wouldn’t try and stop what you’re doing here,” I retorted, my tears had stopped for now to be replaced by rage, “If you think I’m going to let you get away with what you did, you’re insane.”
He took a slow step towards me, looking me over, “You’ve been training, you’ve kept your powers hidden, you don’t want anyone to know the truth.”
“Get the hell out of my head, Ben,” I growled, stepping towards him.
“You hide it from your mother, you’re afraid that when she looks at you, she’ll see her son.” “Stop it.” We were circling each other, glaring and waiting for the other to make the first move.
“You don’t want your precious pilot to know, or else he may be afraid of you.” “I swear, if you don’t stop-“ “He was here the other day, you know. I searched his mind too, and the first thing I saw was you.” “You’re going to pay for what you did to him.” “And the one person who believed in you, the one person who saw what you could do and didn’t fear you-“ “Shut the fuck up or else-“ “Is dead!” I let out a cry, unclipped my lightsaber and ignited the blade. I surged forward with every intention of silencing him, but he’d been expecting it and met my saber with his own. We attacked and blocked each other’s hits at a dizzying speed, both of us had grown in our skillset over the past six years. We began to move through the forest as we fought, a few tree branches becoming collateral damage. I swung furiously, much like he had attacked me years ago while he stayed more calculated. I let my anger guide me in my attack, Ben had fucked my life up long ago but now, he had gone way too far. He’d captured Poe, he’d probably tortured him, he’d taken Rey, he’d injured her, he was planning to kill everyone in the Resistance and he’d murdered our father. I had every right to what I was feeling. We spun around each other, our sabers hit and we pushed into our stance, face to face,
“How are you going to live with yourself after what you did in there? You killed our father,” I snarled.
“Our father?” Ben grunted, struggling to hold his position for a fleeting second, “Ben Solo is dead. And he was never your father, you’re a worthless orphan who your brother should have left to die. You were never really a part of their family.”
“FUCK YOU!” I exclaimed, shoving Ben backwards and sending him stumbling for his footing. He regained it quickly as I launched myself at him, me expertly swinging the blade and him perfectly dodging them every time. The worst part was, he looked almost pleased when I’d come at him. It was like he wanted me to keep attacking him.
At one point, he slammed his blade down on top of mine above our heads and we grasped onto one another’s forearm. We looked like mirror images of each other with our jaws clenched and strained sounds escaping our throats.
“You want to kill me, don’t you?” he taunted, “I can feel your anger, you want to avenge him.” I groaned as we pushed against each other, putting all my strength into holding my stance,
“I should.”
Ben panted, “That anger, you need to give into it. Y/n,”
The eye contact we made was softened at the mention of my name, for just a second we felt like siblings again. I saw him hesitate and felt his genuine need for my presence back in his life. It may have been six years since we’d last seen each other, but he’d trained with our uncle for years before that. It had been 12 years since we’d simply been Y/n and Ben.
“Join me. Don’t be afraid of who you are.”
His words were, ironically, like waking up from a bad dream. I realized the position I was in; ready to kill my brother in a fit of rage, breaking the promise I’d made that night amongst the flames. This wasn’t me, this wasn’t going to be how I avenged my father. He’d been the one to inspire me to stop fearing the gift I possessed, his words had been what had swayed me. In no way was I about to let Ben’s blow me in the other direction.
I did the unthinkable and deactivated my blade with Ben’s only a few inches from my face. He stumbled forward a bit but caught himself and stopped his saber from slicing my throat. I stepped back, breathing heavily as our eyes met again, he was expectantly waiting for my answer,
“No, I’m not this. Dad did believe in me, just like he believed in you and I won’t let what he did for me be done in vain.”
Whatever softness I’d seen in Ben’s eyes disappeared as soon as I’d mentioned our father. His scowl returned, the same one that had scared me the last time we’d fought. He let out a growl and came charging towards me, saber drawn. I barely had time to raise my weapon before an identical blue blade clashed against Ben’s from our side. I turned, coming face to face with Finn,
“Get to Rey.” Finn put all of his weight into pushing my brother’s saber away before drawing him away from me. I listened and ran back to where we’d started, back to where Rey still lay unconscious. I knelt down in the snow and lifted her limp torso into my arms,
“Rey, wake up,” I shook her lightly, ”Rey, Finn and I need you, c’mon, please wake up.”
After a few more seconds of pleading, she moaned quietly and her eyes fluttered open. I exhaled in relief, she quickly sat up and looked around,
“Are you alright? Where’s Finn?”
“I’m okay, but Finn’s in trouble, we’ve gotta go.” I replied, standing up and pulling her with me.
She looked down at my other hand and saw the deactivated lightsaber, “Y/n, you’re a-“
“Yeah, we’ll talk about it later,” I rushed, barely having finished my sentence when we heard Finn’s scream.
We ran through the forest until we were closer to Ben, his back was turned to us. Finn lay face down in the snow and I could see Poe’s jacket ripped up the back. I spotted something in the distance, the handle of Uncle Luke’s saber was sticking out of a pile of snow. In sync, mine and Ben’s hands went forwards to summon it but it didn’t budge. I strained a little harder, there was no way I was going to let Ben take it. It finally began to wiggle before flying through the air towards me...
And landing in Rey’s outstretched hand.
I dropped my arm and gaped at her, she looked equally surprised as she stared at the weapon. My shock turned to happiness as we looked to one another, I nodded to let her know it was okay she’d been the one to catch it. She returned the gesture and just like on Jakku and on the freighter, we were a team. Ben looked more surprised and confused than both of us combined. Rey gripped the lightsaber with both hands, raising her arms up and I did the same. Ben activated and spun his expertly, we activated ours, and it became a blur after that.
We charged toward him, our blades fitting awkwardly together as we danced through the forest. Rey was a bit more aggressive in her fighting, accidentally cutting through a few trees as she swung at Ben. It was shocking at how good she was considering she’d never used one, to my knowledge. We moved backwards as Ben attacked both of us, stumbling through a thin path surrounded with rock formations. When there was a brief second where Ben was determining his next move, Rey and I leapt onto the rocks and ran as he swung wildly at them. I jumped off when they reached their end while Rey somersaulted off as if it was as natural as walking. She was undeniably skilled and when we survived this, she and I would be having a long talk.
Rey cut through a tree (no doubt one we’d probably slammed through earlier in the Falcon) to distract Ben and we continued running. I could sense Ben’s frustration towards Rey, I didn’t know if he’d interrogated her or not but there was something strange between them. I struck Ben’s blade and shoved him backwards, only angering him further. He spun the weapon in his hand before coming at me, Rey was there to block his aim. As we moved deeper into the forest, I caught a glimpse of what was behind us. The base’s destruction was now reaching the surrounding land and the planet itself was beginning to crumble. Anxiety began to course through me as I realized that we may not be getting off the planet.
Ben slammed his blade against ours and backed us up until we reached the edge of a now cracked piece of earth. The rest was falling into the core of the planet. Ben had both me and Rey pinned, one wrong move and our lives would come to an end. We both groaned as we pushed against the the crackling red saber, Ben moved his face closer to Rey’s,
“You need a teacher,” he stated loudly over the sounds our blades were making, “I can show you the ways of the Force.” Rey’s face changed to confusion, “The Force?” “Rey, don’t listen to him,” I grunted, “He’ll lead you to the Dark Side.”
She looked between the two of us and closed her eyes, concentrating on something. I was perplexed only momentarily until I realized that was probably how I looked when I meditated. I closed my own eyes and reached out to her through the Force, trying to pull her from going down Ben’s path.
She reached back out and met me with no hesitations.
We both opened our eyes and both ducked away from Ben. He turned to meet us and we both began striking his blade continuously, he was trying to calculate his next move but it wasn’t much use. He was outnumbered and outmatched, his hopes of winning were extremely slim. Rey struck and sliced off a piece of Ben’s clothing, before I jabbed him in the shoulder causing him to groan. He began walking backwards away from us, we didn’t let up as our blades crashed into each other’s again. I kicked him in the chest and he fell against the snow, Rey and I stood waiting for him to either stay down or try again. He moaned as he stood up and lunged towards Rey, leaving me surprisingly out of his attack. He grabbed ahold of Rey’s wrist and she cried out, I didn’t know what I was supposed to do. Rey forced Ben’s red blade into the snow and I took the opportunity to give Rey some insurance. I spun around and slammed my blade against Ben’s, making it almost impossible for him to even have a shot at hitting her. He growled in frustration just before Rey overpowered him and slammed her saber down against the hilt of his. It sliced through and the red disappeared, he was without a weapon. I backed away and Rey swung upwards, hitting Ben in his face and chest. My heart stopped as I waited for him to rise, Rey stood with her blade ready to strike again if he did get up. He looked up to us to reveal an ugly bloody gash across the right side of his face. Out of reflex, I almost went and knelt down next to him to help him. His dark eyes bore into both of us, but settled on mine, “I will find you, wherever in the galaxy your precious base is hidden, and I will kill you and put an end to your pathetic Resistance.”
I fought back my tears at the sight of him, he may have looked like my brother but Ben Solo would never do or say what he had. I’d held out hope for years that I could bring him back, I’d promised my mother I’d try…But it was more than apparent that Ben had made his choice a long time ago.
“Then I guess you were right all those years ago,” I replied, “My brother really is dead.” As we held eye contact, the earth began to crack and it split the three of us apart. Me and Rey on one half and Kylo on the other, injured and defenseless. I took one last look at him, committing the image to my memory before turning to Rey,
“Finn.” We deactivated our sabers and ran off into our half of the forest. It didn’t take us long to retrace our steps and find where our friend still lay. Rey cried out his name before we rolled him over, specks of ice decorating his face. We both began to weep over his body, it was unlikely that he would survive an injury this extreme. Then again, it didn’t matter. We had no way off of the planet. Rey rested her head on Finn’s chest and I put a hand on her back, feeling tremendous guilt for having dragged them into this.
We were going to die at any moment now, my mother would lose both her daughter and husband on the same day she was reunited with them. I’d never see Poe again, never get to hold him, kiss him, love him when I’d just been given the chance. As I cried, Rey took my hand and squeezed tight, reminding me that I wasn’t alone. She was with me and I’d never been more thankful for her.
Just then, I heard a familiar set of thrusters and bright white lights washed over us. I looked up from Finn’s still form to see the most beautiful sight I could have seen in that moment.
The Falcon in all her glory with Chewie in the cockpit.
I joyfully sobbed and looked to Rey as Chewie landed near us. We couldn’t lift Finn between the two of us so we waited impatiently for the Wookie to exit the ship. He ran out and lifted Finn carefully in his arms, Rey grabbed the blasters that had been dropped while I handled the lightsabers. We rushed onboard and I began calling orders out,
“Rey, you stay with Finn,” I said, she didn’t need to be told twice, “Chewie, you fly and I’ll co-pilot.” Me and Chewie ran to the cockpit ad began frantically flipping switches and adjusting controls. The earth began to crumble beneath us and we took off at just the right time, one second later and we would have fallen in. We flew through the destruction and I had to bite back the tears at the thought of never getting to bury my father. His body in a matter of seconds would cease to exist, just like the planet. I was leaving him there in a sense and it crushed me.
I looked at our radar, “I’m picking up X-Wings behind us, job’s done. Now let’s go home.” Chewie growled his approval and sent us safely hurdling through lightspeed. It was then, and only then, did I close the door the cockpit and fall apart. My knees hit the ground and I sobbed, Chewie knelt down and wrapped his arms around me. The two of us sat there crying into one another, mourning my father in a way that only a few in the galaxy would understand.
A/N: This is the chapter that changes the entire story, it sets a lot of things in motion too. Things that will be explained and explored in later chapters. GAH I’m so excited!! Also, every chapter going forward will have Poe in it. Hope you liked it! Let me know if you’d like to be added to the taglist.
