“mountains rarely are,” was the sorcerer’s response, as though there was familiarity there and in a manner, there was.   indirect, perhaps, or maybe false.   still, the snow swirling in the unforgivable wind was awfully reminiscent of home.   of his cold, rocky home that howled as though spectral at night.   though undoubtedly, it wasn’t quite as high as this, no.   and it was a drastic change, to arrive here from the sweet scenery of wine-scented toussaint.
Tumblr media
dangerous toussaint, though warmer, this time of year.   no matter.   it had seemed an issue of urgency which asyrn would like to consider settled, now that whatever message ought to have been delivered, rested inside his host’s hands.   “thank you, antonin.   perhaps it is… professional habit to be curious of your home.   would you allow me the joy of indulgence?”

11- Antonin/hermione ☺️
Antonin crept through the dungeons beneath Malfoy Manor where the highest ranking prisoners were being kept, out of the hands of the lowly snatchers who might have found them. He walked by numerous people — Lovegood, Ollivander, Creevy — but paid all of them no mind. None except for one.
The prisoner he sought was all the way at one end, furthest away from the narrow staircase that led underground. It showed how precious she was.
Hermione Granger had been caught by Fenrir Greyback and brought to Malfoy Manor with Potter and the Weasley boy. Her friends escaped, but she had been left behind, caught in Bellatrix’s grasp. She remained in Malfoy Manor since then, unaware of the War coming to its ultimate conclusion, unaware of the Dark Lord’s victory.
He found her huddled on a bed, staring listlessly at the wall. “The War is over,” he said, announcing his presence.
Her fiery brown eyes flickered to him. “And since you are here that must mean that Voldemort was victorious,” she spat out.
Antonin flinched at the word. “Yes,” he said simply, doing nothing to soften or sharpen the blow. “We are being granted boons. Each Death Eater can ask for one thing, whatever we’d like.”
Hermione sat up, a curious look on her face. She pulled her hair over one shoulder. Even though she could use a bath, she was still striking. Antonin could see the wheels turning in her mind. “You want something to do with me, is it?” she asked, slowly. “Pay back for the Department of Mysteries perhaps? Or maybe the coffee shop? You want to torture me or k-kill me?”
She jutted her chin up in the air, the illusion of fearlessness, though he could tell that she was scared inside.
“I had something else in mind, something a bit better. Something that might be equally beneficial for both of us,” he said, giddy at the prospect of her being his. He was so close to her now, he could almost reach out at touch her. “I will ask not to torture you or to kill you, but to make you my own.”
Hermione stood up and walked to the gate that held her in, her fingers around the bars. “Don’t be delusional, Dolohov,” she chided. “I’m a mudblood remember. You are supposed to be riding the Wizarding world of my kind, not intermingling. He would never allow it. And even if he did I am sure your brothers at arms would have something to say about it.”
“He will not deny me this if I ask,” he promised her. “And the Dark Lord knows that there can be… special cases. Like Severus. Like me. Like himself.”
“And the rest of your friends?” she countered, her interest in getting out of her prison winning out.
“No one would dare say anything to you if you were on my arm,” he said, his voice low and seductive. “You could do whatever you want — keep learning, take your NEWTs, become a cursebreaker for all I care. But come back to me — and my bed — every night.”
Hermione suddenly began shaking the door to her prison and gave a little shriek. “You barely even know me,” she spat at him. “Why would you want me anyway.”
He smirked at her. “We’ve dueled enough times for me to know that we would be compatible,” he said, remembering the way that she’d captured his attention, the way her magic felt interacting with his. Surely, she must have felt it, too, or she wouldn’t have entertained him for so long.
She was silent, her eyes searching his for any hint of treachery.
“Say you’ll do it,” he commanded imperiously. “Be my wife.”

The Intolerance of Being Unhappy When Extremists Succeed
There's an emergent line I'm seeing from the nationalist-conservative right, complaining about how, as their practical power increases, they and their ideas are no longer looked upon with the same degree of affability as when they were fringe activists chirping at the margins. Adam Mortara put it as follows after he and Jonathan Mitchell, architect of Texas' SB8 and some of the most radical anti-abortion pushes in the country, received an (allegedly) chilly reception by a liberal former mentor.*
“It was hurtful . . . and eye-opening,” Mortara said. “You’re fine when you’re just a yappy little dog that can’t bite. But, if you grow up to be a big dog that can actually do stuff, then you’re probably going to be put down.”
Justice Alito said something similar in his whine-terview in the Wall Street Journal last week -- he alleged that he's really no different than Antonin Scalia, but Scalia was tolerated by liberal elites because he was mostly in dissent. Now that Justice Alito commands a majority, things hit different.
"When you're in dissent," Justice Alito observes, "well, his ideas were amusing and interesting. He spoke at a lot of law schools and he was honored at law schools, but he wasn't a threat, because those views were not prevailing on issues that really hit home."
This line is presented as some sort of gotcha to the liberals. "Oh, you tolerated us when our ideas were basically just fascinating thought experiments, but now that we're winning it's dangerous." To which I say: yes! That's how it works!
The whole point of liberal free speech commitments is that there is a sizeable gap between "views one is willing to consider and debate" and "views which it would be good, or even acceptable, to prevail in political life." We don't limit our consideration only to those positions which we're willing to endorse on-the-merits; which means that there is no conflict between engaging in such consideration in the abstract and being appalled when certain views actually start winning the day in "real" politics. The "gotcha" completely misunderstands the point of what liberal tolerance in the context of an abstract intellectual discussion is supposed to signify, or commit to.
For example, it is entirely plausible that one might assign, in a political theory class, works by Lenin, and consider/debate them in the classroom context. That's perfectly appropriate. But if the Leninists actually start seizing political power and instituting the purges, that would be bad! And if they said, "Oh, it was fine to debate our ideas in the classroom, but now that we're actually in charge and establishing gulags you have a problem with it," well, yeah, I do! Clearly! And I can think the same thing of compulsory pregnancy and forced childbirth. As a professor, it is important to debate these questions. But the actual political reality of it is catastrophic, and it's fine to say so.
It is not a failure of liberal tolerance to be unhappy when illiberal authoritarianism is on the march. A willingness to debate and consider these views as abstract intellectual exercises does not make said unhappiness hypocrisy. This isn't that complicated.
* Full disclosure: the mentor in question was David Strauss, who was my mentor in law school as well. I also got to know Mitchell when I was a law student, and can attest that he is a personally very pleasant person to interact with in addition to possessing a formidable intellect. Any one who knows Professor Strauss is well aware of his commitment to nurturing and supporting law students from a range of different ideological backgrounds, and so I have no doubt he is genuine in feeling hurt that Mitchell has used his prodigious legal talents in service of dangerous, even lawless, public initiatives.

The Antonine Wall: Rome's Final Frontier'
The entrance gallery in The Hunterian has an interesting exhibition on The Antonine Wall. Having stayed a stones throw from a section of the wall I really enjoyed visiting this, I have posted about sections of the wall, and Roman finds a number of times, the most recent being The Cramond Lioness in Te National Museum.
Built around AD 142 in the reign of the Roman emperor Antoninus Pius, the Antonine Wall ran coast-to-coast across Scotland from the Clyde to the Firth of Forth. This permanent gallery at the Hunterian Museum showcases the collection of spectacular monumental sculpture and other Roman artefacts recovered from the Wall, including richly sculptured distance slabs, unique to the frontiers of the Roman Empire.
'The Antonine Wall: Rome's Final Frontier' explores the biography of this important Roman monument and through The Hunterian's rich collections investigates four key themes: The building of the Wall, its architecture and impact on the landscape; the role of the Roman army on the frontier, the life and lifestyle of its soldiers; the cultural interaction between Roman and indigenous peoples, and evidence for local resistance; and the abandonment of the Wall and the story of its rediscovery over the last 350 years.
The display also reflects the story of over three centuries of collecting and research by the University of Glasgow on the World Heritage Site.

Proofs take so long! But I do enjoy them in a strange way. It was also so interesting to read more about Rome and religion. Studying other cultures, especially ancient ones, is fascinating. I have also loved all the videos and lessons on Khan Academy World History. I may also go through their AP World History next year since I want to study AP-level Human Geography instead of splitting U.S. History into two years. I still have to ask my parents if that's okay, but I think they will have a positive and optimistic attitude towards it.
Tasks Completed:
Geometry - Learned about the properties of equality and the properties of congruence + practice + two quizzes + learned how to write algebraic proofs + practice
Lit and Comp II - Took vocabulary test + read Chapter 26 of The Adventures of Tom Sawyer
Spanish 2 - Reviewed the preterit of the verbs ir, ser, dar, and hacer + watched a video on the preterit of irregular verbs + practice writing the correct form of the verbs
Bible I - Read Genesis 42
World History - Went through terminology flashcards + read about Roman religion + explored the city of Rome with an interactive map
Biology with Lab - Started osmosis lab and prepared a lab report according to a template
PE/Health I - Read a health article
Foundations - Read the definition of creativity + took a quiz on Read Theory + watched a video on teen etiquette and practiced taking Cornell notes
Practice - Practiced assigned pieces for 30 minutes and worked on memorization
Khan Academy - Completed Unit 1: Lesson 7 of World History + completed Unit 2 test of High School Biology + completed Unit 1 test of High School Geometry

CREDIT TO KÆM (Template credit)
Face Claim: Landon Liboiron
Theme Song: grandson - Blood // Water
Introduction
Name: Antonin Damienovich Dolohov
Also Known As:
𝙏𝙤𝙣𝙮 / 𝙏𝙤𝙣𝙞 - Used by his friends
Titles:
-Heir of the Dolohov Family
Birthday: April 7th, 1958
Astrological Signs:
*Sun: Aries
*Moon: Sagittarius
*Rising: Leo
Antonin has never been too interested in Astrology, and only knew general facts. Though the latter had to change when he met Thaddeus Nott who was determined that at least all his housemates should be aware of the importance of Astrology. Antonin stopped caring after graduation.
Nationality: Russian
Species/Blood-Status: Pureblood
Antonin believes deeply in the pureblood supremacy, the existence of mudbloods disgusts him and he considers muggles as the wizards’ mortal enemies.
But he also holds high respect for few purebloods, and if one of them chose to associate with muggles, as long as there is no marriage involved, he is willing to turn a blind eye on it.
Blood Type: B-
Sex: Male
Gender: Male
Pronouns: He/Him
Sexual Orientaion: Bisexual (closeted)
Antonin didn’t care about one’s sexuality, with the relationships he didn’t approve of only being with muggles and muggleborns.
About Him
Personality: ISTP
Antonin was generally a quiet guy, keeping his distance from other and enjoying his personal space. Only speaking and interacting with others when necessary. But he also was very observant and rarely missed anything happening around him.
When he considers someone a friend, he gets very protective over them and will go as far as killing for them which he did more than once during the Wizarding Wars.
Occupation:
Moving to the UK, Antonin was already planning to become a Death Eater and he was going to accept whatever position given to him by the Dark Lord after the war is over.
Likes:
Dark magic, as he openly practiced it back in Durmstrang. / Getting payback, as he was known to easily hold grudge and not letting it go until gets his revenge. / Hanging out with the Slytherin purebloods, they had very different dynamics than the ones he had with his friends back at Durmstrang and he found that interesting. / Learning new things.
Dislikes:
Muggles and muggleborns. / Gryffindors since he got a very bad first impression on them from his very first day at Hogwarts. / The Prewett family / Nocturnal beasts as he saw most of them as more of a threat than an abomination.
Hobbies:
Reading / Training / Collecting trophies from his duels when winning.
Fears:
-Clowns, he always found them rather freaky and made him feel uneasy.
-Hospitals, he would rather bleed out than go to a hospital or hospital wing, as he doesn’t trust many people around him when he is in a vulnerable situation.
Strength:
-Duelling, he is a master duellist and could easily take out multiple wizards at the same time without too much effort.
-Dark arts, which he mastered when he was still a student at Durmstrang and only improved after training under the Dark Lord.
-Transfiguration, with it being his strongest skill beside the dark arts.
-Non verbal magic, something he has been training on mastering ever since he got into Durmstrang.
-Charms and spell creation, Antonin started making his own spells during sixth year, and had multiple of them even though the purple fire one was his favorite making it his signature curse.
Weakness:
-Despite him being very good at non verbal magic, his spells’ effect weakens when he casts them non-verbally yet they still remain powerful enough to cause the damage needed.
-His lack of social skill made it difficult for him to work with most of the Death Eaters, having only a few he could be partnered up with.
Talents:
-Dueling
-Spells making
-Using muggles weapons. Despite him loathing them, Antonin has always found himself interested in learning how to use every kind of weapon he comes across including muggle weapons.
Relationships
Father: Damien Dolohov
Antonin’s relationship with his father wasn’t very stable, as he saw the older man as a figure of authority more than a parental one.
Mikhail was the one who gave his son the trust issues he had along with social difficulties, teaching him that no one could be trusted not even allies.
Mother: Olga Dolohova
With his being close to his father to receive his training, Antonin’s relationship with his mother was almost non-existent. Though he still cared about the woman knowing she loved him and wanted the best for him and his brother.
Siblings:
Antonin has one sister, Lena Dolohov who was a couple of years younger than him. And the siblings were quite close especially with both of them being trained by their father. Though they limited their contact after Antonin became a Death Eater, so Lena could remain with their parents without getting involved in the war.
Relatives:
Beside his parents and sister, Antonin wasn’t close to any of their relatives and barely had any contact with them.
Education
School:
-Durmstrang (until 5th year)
-Hogwarts (5th to 7th year)
Antonin transferred to Hogwarts after word about the Dark Lord reached Durmstrang, some students chose to join after graduation like Igor Karkaroff, while he wanted to first study the situation in the UK as soon as possible and asked to be transferred to Hogwarts which was supposed to happen in 4th year but it took longer than planned.
House: Slytherin
Getting sorted into Slytherin wasn’t a surprise to anyone, with Antonin formerly being a student at Durmstrang, his love for the dark arts and ambition to become one of the best duelist around.
Best Core Class: Transfigurations and Defense Against The Dark Arts.
Worst Core Class: Astronomy
Elective: Apparition
Quidditch: Antonin didn’t join the Slytherin Quidditch team but he was a part of his school’s team back at Durmstrang, Beater position.
Extra-Curricular: Apparition, Ghoul Studies and Ancient Studies
Magic
Wand:
-Length: 14" long
-Flexibility: Fairly bendy
-Wood: Blackthorn
-Core: Thunderbird tail feather
-First Reaction: When Antonin first held the wand, it caused quite a havoc, though not an unwelcomed one. Finding out that it’s a wild one to control, Antonin was even more persistent to take it. He got to have full control of it by the beginning of third year.
Pets: Eurasian Eagle Owl
Boggart: Unknown
Animagus: No
Patronus: Doesn’t have one
Amortentia: TBA
Affiliations/Alliances
Hometown: Moscow, Russia
Residence: Dolohov Family mansion
Loyalty:
-Slytherin House
-Corban Yaxley and his friends
-The Dark Lord
Trivia
-Antonin’s friends are Corban Yaxley, Thorfinn Rowle, and Thaddeus Nott.
-He was in relationship with Lucinda Talkalot.
-His Death Eater partner was Louis Avery.
-On his first day at Hogwarts, he ran into the Marauders teasing Snape, he usually doesn’t get involved but seeing four wizards ganging up on one he hexed them with only the Lupin guy being able to block his attack.
-Antonin didn’t meet the Prewett twins before the first war since they graduated before he moved to Hogwarts. But he heard stories about them, and made his his mission to show the ‘Pranksters’ how dark wizards really operate, especially with him being sorted into Slytherin and learning how the twins loved picking on dark wizards from his house.
-Antonin seemed to focus on Lupin ever since their first meeting. The guy was one of the quiet ones which meant he was one to be wary of. When the Russian wizard joined the fights between Slytherins and Gryffindors, he always targeted Remus. Especially after he learned he was a werewolf by watching his behavior closely all year long.
-Antonin knew the Marauders were animagi and Lupin was a werewolf but he never told anyone, keeping it as an important information for himself to use later on.

21+. She/Her. Looking for some Harry Potter or Fantastic Beasts roleplays.
Please be 21+ to interact! ☀️
I write on Discord or through Tumblr messages. I like to stick to Tumblr for plotting, though, and don't hand out my Discord handle until I'm sure we'll be doing something together. I write in third person, past tense and around 2-4 paragraphs. Replies usually happen within 2-3 days. I do work full-time during the week so some patience must be had. I'm mainly interested in canon x canon pairings (MxM, FxF, or MxF) and canon or canon divergent plots. I am willing to do some canon x OC stuff (but only MxM or FxF for those). I lean towards romantic pairings but can do platonic. I'm fine with writing NSFW stuff or keeping things clean. I have no triggers.
I'll be listing my biggest muses for each fandom. When it comes to ships, I have my favorites, but I'm also more than happy to discuss doing anything and everything. There's only a 0.1% chance I'll turn any ship down because I like trying out new pairings I've never thought of before.
Note: All characters will be 18+, so with the "student" characters I'm only really looking for some post-Hogwarts plots (or 7th year, if we fudge their ages a little bit).
Anyone in bold, I'm particularly interested in writing as right now.
Harry Potter: Antonin Dolohov, Arthur Weasley, Augustus Rookwood, Barty Crouch Jr., Bill Weasley, Cedric Diggory, Cormac McLaggen, Gilderoy Lockhart, Hermione Granger, Igor Karkaroff, Lucius Malfoy, Oliver Wood, Percy Weasley, Remus Lupin, Salazar Slytherin, Severus Snape, Stan Shunpike, Tom Riddle
Fantastic Beasts: Aberforth Dumbledore, Albus Dumbledore, Jacob Kowalski, Leta Lestrange, Newt Scamander, Theseus Scamander
If interested in working something out, please message me (preferred) or like this post and I'll message you.
DM @ofxstarsxandxsmoke if interested!

Roman table-top campaign
Tumblr media
So playing Expeditions: Rome has occasionally gotten me thinking about what it’d be like to play an Ancient Rome AU tabletop campaign where the party are procursatores, exploratores or speculatores for the Roman army during one of it’s many conquests or on one of it’s many frontiers. I mean, each of these groups often broke into small scouting squads about the right size for a D&D party. And, frankly, any of the base D&D classes should work as legionaries or auxiliaries. Discussion and story ideas to follow. (And, coincidentally as I was working on this, I got an email notification that my copy of Age of Antiquity is on it’s way!)
As I mentioned above, any number of famous Roman campaigns should work nicely for characters playing as legionary special-ops. Caesar used scouts extensively in Gaul, while playing as speculatores during the siege of Alexandria could feature plenty of action and intrigue. Other options might include serving under Pompey during the Third Mithridatic War in Asia Minor, various conquests in Iberia, Germanicus’s expeditions across the Rhine, or Trajan’s wars in Dacia. On the other hand, playing as scouts or legionaries fleeing in the aftermath of a famous disaster like Boudicca’s destruction of Legio IX, Teutoburg Forest, or Crassus’s defeat by the Parthians.
Meanwhile, playing as exploratores or speculatores on any number of the Roman frontiers would provide opportunities for exploration, side-quests, npc interaction, and maybe even-dungeon crawling. The most obvious would be a party stationed at Hadrian’s Wall or the Antonine Wall in Roman Britain, with forts to defend, Pictish ambuscades to scout, and even Celtic ruins to explore. Similarly, a party might be stationed along one of the river frontiers, defending against the Germanic tribes along the Rhine, Dacians or Sarmatians along the Danube, or against the Parthians along the Euphrates. Or playing as legionary speculatores keeping the peace between Numidian or Berber tribes in North Africa again could create a lot of chances for combat, exploration, and npc interactions. Though, the option I really like is being stationed in one of Augustus’s garrisons along the Upper Nile to defend against incursions from Kush and other Nubian kingdoms to the south. I especially love the idea of scouting the desert and getting to discover and explore cursed Egyptian ruins filled with undead mummies and giant scarabs.
OR if you’re not into playing as the Romans, I think there’re a lot of similarly great stories to be told by playing against them! You could play as Britons attempting to smuggle weapons through a checkpoint at Hadrian’s wall, escaped gladiators training local Numidian tribes to fight legionaries, Parthian scouts feeling out Roman defenses, Suebi raiders sneaking across the Rhine to hassle Roman supply lines, or Kushite spies stealing info on legion troop movements. Skies the limit and I love a lot of these possibilities

anonymous said : mw from: stranger things, scream, harry potter & disney? i've always wanted to join but i've always been a bit nervous because of how large the group is... do you have any tips for new members joining at all?
well first of all, for advice-- know that we're a super welcoming group and would love to have you around. we would encourage you to be proactive about plotting, and try to give a decent amount of info in your intros so people have something to work with (tell us where your character works, where they might hang out in the city, what kind of friendship or other relationship dynamics you're looking to plot for, for example!). also don't be afraid to request starters in the discord when people post starter calls, and know that participating in meme days usually gives you a lot of good material for you to start new threads with characters yours might not have interacted with yet. and if you have anything you're specifically concerned about, or have questions about, definitely shoot us a dm and we'd love to help you out! and then admin aria put a list of recent most wanted characters from those fandoms for you: the rest of the ' numbers ' , martin brenner , victor creel , eddie munson , mike wheeler , lucas & erica sinclair , dustin henderson , & jonathan byers from stranger things ; richie kirsch , ethan landry , quinn bailey , kirby reed , olivia morris , mindy meeks martin , liv mckenzie , leslie macher , & randy meeks from scream ; peter pettigrew , arthur weasley , percy weasley , rodolphus lestrange , travers , the carrow twins , barty crouch jr, bellatrix lestrange , antonin dolohov , lucius malfoy , leta lestrange , evan rosier , fenrir greyback , the bloody baron , the prewett twins , edgar bones , caradoc dearborn , & benjy fenwick from harry potter ; anamaria , tia dalma , syrena , philip swift , davy jones , hector barbossa , armando salazar , & gibbs from pirates of the caribbean ; toulouse , edgar & madame adelaide , & thomas o'malley from the aristocats ; the rest of the madrigals from encanto ; queen elsa , olaf , sven , hans , & honeymaren from frozen ; king triton & the rest of his daughters , ursula , & prince eric from the little mermaid ; mother gothel from tangled ; lilo & nani pelekai , pleakley , & jumba jookiba from lilo & stitch ; as well as princess tiana , prince naveen , & charlotte la bouff from princess & the frog !

"Antonin Artaud s'inquiétait toujours de savoir si les gens avaient mangé, s'ils ne mouraient pas de faim." Now that first acceptance is over, what characters are you most interested in receiving for interactions? Like who is missing for the best chemistry?
After polling the group, we would love to see... Amycus, Walden, Antonin, Bellatrix, Artemisia, Arthur, Barty, Molly, and Fabian. I think James, Severus, or Harlan would also be a great addition.
There will be an acceptance tomorrow so there is time to sneak in an app or two before opening.

Theorist Exercise
For homework we were asked to prepare an exercise from our chosen theorist for our solo performance. I began by researching the key qualities of Antonio Artaud’s works, some of the more interacting theories that I focused on were:
Cruel to oneself
Larger than life
Problem with language
Language of symbols
I decided to chose the “No language argument” exercise, where I asked the rest of the class to present on argument with out the use of words, they could only use grunts, screams, moans, etc. After each pair tries doing this, they repeated the exercise but this time they could only use on word. During this I noticed that they had a much harder time as they still scoffed, laughed, or made someone her sounds. So as a final task they were asked to engage in an argument as an entire group, and they could only use one word however this time I chose the word that was being used. I decided to use the word “pindololek” which is what my father called a tomato as a little kid. Having them use a “made up word” that sounded weird and funny was much harder for them as they had to present an argument were different emotions such as anger and sadness are present. The aim of this exercise was to show that emotions and messages can be portrayed without using “language”.

A Psychedelic Art Museum in Haight-Ashbury
Tumblr media
The MORI Building Digital Art Museum is an all-digital psychedelic art gallery that lacks the cautions or overview maps of conventional galleries.
