#anti sharpwin
I really loved this finale. It felt like excellent story telling that really connected back to the pilot and came full circle in a beautiful way.
Not gonna lie, I wish Max had stayed but the way it played out really did make sense for his story. And I was beyond happy that he was making Luna a priority while not giving up who he is (like he was practically forced to do in London). I was so relieved with Iggy and Martin, I felt like they were purposely putting me through torture with that one. I think before Wildwin, Iggy x Martin was definitely my OTP of the show, so it was nice to see their story come to a wonderful close. I was so glad that Lauren reunited with her sister, that Floyd got the family he wanted, and that if Wilder had to stay behind, that she got to take over for Max with New Amsterdam. It was an amazing end for a lovely show and I couldn't be more grateful, especially with the Luna twist (my God, talk about spectacular writing, they really did close every layer up minus the one they planned to leave open). I've been watching since day 1 and that to me was definitely a finale worth celebrating.
I know maybe some might not care for the open Wildwin ending, but personally, I loved it. I think Max made his decision back a couple of episodes ago and I think that was really powerful. Despite Max's leaving, what happened between these two and how they left things just felt right to me and open with possibility like the showrunner says here.
You know, when Sharpwin started being hinted at in the show, I despised it. Not because Max and Helen didn't have chemistry, not because Ryan and Freema weren't enjoyable to watch on screen together, but because it felt as if the show quickly killed Georgia off to do fanservice. (and if you've been following me here for a while, you know by now how much I hate that LOL) But I tried my best to give it a shot when it went canon. Despite loathing Helen's response with "I should have never let you in" while Max was happy and glowing, completely in love with her and wanting to show her. But regardless, I slowly came to appreciate it, especially after Helen's speech on the bridge. They had finally showed to the audience, in my opinion, just how real it was for both of them, why it could actually work, and just why Max was making this move. So I was on board. I rooted for the little family they were creating. Then I really couldn't stand it when it became obvious that Max was basically forced into giving up everything in order to make Helen happy by following her to London, though you could tell her heart wasn't fully in it. (I had no idea what was going on bts with Freema's decision to leave the show btw)
For me, not to sound harsh in regards to Max, the moment she jilted him wasn't what had me angry at the pairing again. (that's not to diminish what happened or what he went through) It was the fact that she allowed Luna to call her 'Mummy', allowed Max to keep telling Luna that she was indeed her mom and that they were going to be a family, and then did what she did. Here's the thing: cold feet, I get it. And Iggy was right, Helen was going through A LOT. But doing that to Luna and basically abandoning her...that's unforgivable in my book. Luna had already lost one mom that she never knew and Helen knew that. Tbf to her, she had been hesitant about the mom thing at first when Max went full throttle, but she eventually went with it and formed a full bond with Luna as her mom. And then she just disappears (again, I get it, Freema left the show) from the kid's life, not even making sure she's okay, regardless of where she left things with her dad. Unforgivable.
So for me, Wildwin when it first started being hinted at was such a nice contrast. Don't get me wrong, I love the friends-to-lovers trope, the slow burns, and the whole healing process from a broken heart & falling in love with "what's good for you" but Ryan and Sandra definitely had chemistry, Wilder was there for Max, and I was so glad when the writers went with it. And I was thrilled when Max chose Wilder over Helen, his future vs his past like they say in this article. (and that shot of Luna with Wilder was adorable btw!)
But saying all of that, I'm more than okay with where they left things with Wildwin. I would have been massively disappointed if Max left to find Helen again, taking Luna with him, breaking it off with Wilder in the process. I'm okay with staying open-ended on this one because it leaves things open for possibilities. And while we got closure on the other characters' stories, if you think about it, we really got the theme of "open possibility" with all of them as well. Iggy and Martin have started a new beginning; Lauren and her sister are starting a new beginning together; Floyd is starting a new beginning with his relationship along with his family embracing his dad being around again. And of course, Luna was given her own new beginning as well, which was all tied beautifully to the moments these people chose to become doctors.
I just wanted to gush a little over it. I just really appreciated that they finished out this story right and didn't fall short on anything while attempting to bring it full circle while also bringing it to a close. I will miss these characters but damn if there won't be a rewatch in my future at some point lol.
What a fantastic show!

watching a tv show where I don't ship the main couple is... an experience, but every once in a while I get scenes where, after being mistaken for a couple and he stutters about how they are not a couple but the subtext is that he wants them to be, they have a very emotional and clearly romantic coded scene, they hug, and they are very close, and you expect a kiss, and then. she says how happy she is that they are friends. and I'm just over here dying from laughing.
if I shipped them, or gave even the tiniest bit of a fuck about them, these two scenes would kill me like seven different ways. but I get to just sit back and break out the popcorn

I really want to ship sharpwin because they’re mad cute and the show is obviously going there but I absolutely can’t stand when shows hint at other ships while a character is MARRIED and it totally ruined it for me that they hinted at them being soulmates while he was married and then fucking killed the wife off :) :) :)

Floyd what have you done? Are we really gonna go the Maury paternity route here?
Leyla, good on you for sticking up for yourself and laying it on Lauren.
Are we finally going to get more joy in the second half of the season? I know Helen and Max won’t stay in London. It’s just a matter of how long.
A decent episode all things considered, though.

(Snippet of Sharpwin fanfic set a bit before s2 of New Amsterdam. Read it in its entirety at MeJacinta, my A03 account).
When Max opened the door, Luna was no longer crying.
“H—hey!” He blinked at her from behind puffy, bloodshot eyes, wide, as though he were seeing her for the first time in a long while.
Helen was blanketed with the same sensation looking up back at him.
“Hey, Max,” she managed.
She had ran her way there and her braids were askew somehow, brushing against one side of her face. “How’s Luna doing?”
The spell broke the moment she invoked Luna’s name, and Max moved so she could pass. “Well, she’s stopped crying just now. I was about to call… let you know everything’s OK. I’d been freaking out for nothing, honestly…”
As Max continued rambling on, Helen was struck with the memory of the last time she was at his house. The dreadful event that had befallen them soon after Luna’s birth.
Max was still keeping Georgia’s things. Her ballet shoes under a rustic shoe rack, the floral dresses still hung in an open wardrobe, a collection of odd-looking spices and herbs on the shelves in the kitchen area.
Helen swallowed, and her smile was shaky when Max shut the door. “How are you guys?” she attempted. “You been getting enough sleep last few nights?”
“It’s you we’re worried about,” Max surprised her. “How can you even stand there when you’ve been having triple shifts all week?”
She allowed him to relieve her of her Prada purse, which he placed on the kitchen counter before moving to a coffee maker.
“Or should I make you tea?” He said, a soft, cautious look plastered on his face. “Better yet some herbal chai. Georgia enjoyed it—”
“Tea’s fine,” Helen cut in. Between the sofa and the white cot, the latter was so much more appealing. If just to ease her mind from the thoughts of death and losing her closest friend to grief.
Luna’s white cot was like a light in the dark, a haven in a rough place, the consoling white rose on a headstone. She peered down at the baby-pink blankets and the alabaster side-cheek peeping from the folds of pink and baby-animal illustrations.
“What you give her?” she asked, meaning baby Luna.
“Formula,” Max replied, scratching his mop of dark-brown hair. He looked around at various mason jars, confused, as a pot of water steamed on the cooker. “Homemade. I didn’t get time for the grocer’s.”
Helen took off her trench coat and throwing it onto the larger bed nearby.
“You knocked her hard then?” she observed, crouching down on one knee to approach the baby-pink bundle. “Luna’s deep asleep.”
“That’s not right.” Helen held her breath as Max’s towering frame suddenly stooped down to her left—the closest they had been to each other in a while. “Luna rarely ever sleeps without Georgia’s lullaby.”
His tone was soft and affectionate, like the old Max. Helen tried not to think about it too much.
“I bought some formula on my way here,” she remembered. “Could you please fetch me my bag?”
“Helen,” Max warned.
“Max, it’s not bad receiving help,” for the hundredth time, Helen reminded him.
And Max’s pointed silence was telling. He had not changed. Perhaps he did not even know why he had called for help in the first place.
Her blood boiling, Helen moved to peel the baby-pink covers from Luna’s body with care. “Max, I know you think I’m being pushy…”
“We don’t think you are.”
Again with the ‘we’, Helen thought with indignation. As if she had not realized that was the choice word he invoked to justify pushing her away lately; because for him it was just Max and Luna. No one else in the world meant them any good. Not anyone who wanted to help anyway.
“Well, I’m glad Luna agrees…” Helen begun to bite back.
But then the covers came off fully from Luna, and she noticed the sheen of sweat on the baby’s forehead, her feeble thoracic movement as well.
“Max,” Helen said, as calmly as she could, “what was in Luna’s baby formula?”
“I never really….I lost the recipe,” Max paused, drawing closer. “Hey, is everything all right?”
Helen slid her fingers under the soft folds of baby Luna’s neck and gasped at the blistering heat there.
“Luna’s having an allergic reaction, Max,” she answered to Max’s horror. “Get me a syringe, cold towels and anti-histamines, now!”

Ok I have a lot of Sharpwin feelings as usual, still processing them, and the S2 journey, including the timing of their talk that never happened. Was that supposed to be before or after this week's episode? One thing I'm sure of from their only scene together is Max CLEARLY wanted to spend HIS time with Helen or worse case Dr. Sharpe anyway he could. That report wasn't due for a year!! He was so sad in the company of the other woman and UGH!!! I def need to write some fics to process my emotions
The showrunners said it was supposed to be at the finale I think, the conversation about the near kiss. They also talked about how the timing for Sharpwin is off. How Max wanted to be ready to be with Alice and ready to be with Helen but wasn't and he's still grieving. Which is understandable. It hasn't even been a year.
I think Alice was the perfect person to understand and they were both lonely but he knew he wasn't ready, Helen knew too with the almost kiss.
And now with the ending we're seeing a Helen that isn't putting Max first, the not total anti-I-did-it-for-you Helen but one that understands that she has to live her life too.
I can't wait to see what that looks like next season, but yes, this season left us with a HUGE moment that wasn't cleared up.

Jonsa Fam Bam, Here are My Top Shows to Watch After Thrones is Over!
Hey guys!
As the show wraps us this weekend, I wanted to bring you content not related to Thrones. As much as I love GOT, I understand that this small part of my life that brought me joy is coming to a close. I have loved every single moment of being apart of this fandom and I’m so incredibly proud to be a JONSA! With that being said, I totally and completely believe in the power of moving on and there are so many incredible shows with exceptional writing that are KILLING IT right now that you should totally watch! So here are my top tv recommendations:
1 .New Amsterdam
Tumblr media
This is my favorite show on TV PERIOD! I never thought that I would be interested in a medical drama but this is not a typical medical drama in the slightest. The show is heads and shoulders above Grey’s and to be honest, I love this show way more than I have ever loved Game of Thrones. I’ve never watched a show where I’m in love with every single character. The cast is extremely diverse, the writers are intentional about every single storyline and the two lead characters are PHENOMENAL!!! If you think Jon and Sansa have subtext, you haven’t seen subtext until you see Max and Helen on screen! Sharpwin ( the ship name for them) is THAT SHIP fam! This show is an absolute must watch!
2. Succession
Tumblr media
Watching a show about a dysfunctional white billionaire family might not seem that appealing but trust me fam, this show is phenomenal! Probably the best show that came out last year! I’m still shook about the first season’s finale. I’m telling you this show is modern day Shakespeare! The music score alone makes this show a worthwhile watch!
3. The Handmaid’s Tale
Tumblr media
Unless you’ve been living under a rock, even if you haven’t watched the show you’ve probably heard of it. I don’t even need to go into detail about why you should watch this show. JUST DO IT! Also considering that Alabama and Georgia just passed some of the most restrictive anti-abortion laws, this show is a hell of a lot relevant than you think!
4. Jack Whitehall Travels With My Father
Tumblr media
Funniest show I’ve seen in a long time! If you just want a good laugh; this is what you watch! I’m praying to God that there’s a season 3 of Jack and his father’s travel adventures!
5. The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel
Tumblr media
There’s a reason why they sweeped the emmys. This is a phenomenal comedy series! A story where a woman finds her voice and path when her husband leaves her with brilliant writing and witty humor, what more could you want?!
Honorable Mentions
Breaking Bad (Greatest show of all time)
Insecure
Mad Men
Billions
Black Mirror
The Umbrella Academy
Power
The Bodyguard
Ozark
Good Girls
Narcos
Parenthood
This is Us
Killing Eve (Love hate relationship with this show)
Stranger Things
The Crown
I’m pretty sure I’ve missed a ton of shows that I’ve grown to love, but these are the ones that I highly recommend you watch! Right now, I’m heavily involved in the New Amsterdam fandom and as they just finished their first season, I would love for y’all to be apart of it! Anyway, go binge watch any of these shows! I love you guys!

Saw the latest New Amsterdam episode and omg that last moment with Max and Luna was precious. And it was so needed. We haven't really gotten any Max and Luna time, with the whole Sharpwin push of last season, so this was nice to see. How Helen could abandon this little girl is beyond me. She is so cute. What a heartwarming moment this episode.

sooo Helen and Max are talking about Georgia, and Helen being (or not being) Luna's "new mommy", and then an ambulance crashes right next to them in a way too similar to how Georgia died? was that Georgia's angry ghost saying hell no or have I been watching Nancy Drew too much?

I actually haven't been this pissed at a NewAm episode since the snowstorm in s1 🙃 the only positive I can think of is Lauren and Casey's cute scene at the end and the group therapy scene right after. everything else that happened just makes my blood boil and I was screaming at my tv for the whole episode 🙃🙃🙃
