Michael Guerin Deserves Better Than This Shit
I love both Michael and Alex, and I especially love Malex. I have my crack ships pairing them with other people, but there's no other ship I want more in canon than Malex. That being said, I get really annoyed with Alex stans (I use the word stans instead of fans because they are usually crazy fans who only love Alex and low key seem to hate Michael) who act like Michael is some monster for having dated Maria and like Alex should have been furious with him. Now, I hate Miluca as a ship and Maria DeLuca as a character, so it's not about liking the ship as one of my crack pairings. No, it's all about the fact that for ten years, Alex walked away from Michael. For ten years, Alex broke Michael's heart (I know he had his reasons for his actions and I understand them, but this is still what happened). And for a matter of weeks, Michael dates someone else (because he was not actually with Maria in canon for more than a few weeks and it was, as she said, on a non-exclusive trial basis), and suddenly he's some big bad monster who hurt Alex beyond repair? Sorry, but no. He doesn't deserve to be hated for that. Not when you don't dislike Alex for leaving him over and over again for a decade. You know who Alex should be angry at, though? Maria. He has no right to be angry with Michael for not believing he would stay this time and for trying to move on with someone else (not saying he can't feel hurt, but he doesn't have a right to be angry with Michael the way some stans wanted him to be). But he can be angry with Maria for getting together with Michael after finding out about him being in love with him when she claims to be Alex's best friend. Alex can be angry with Maria all he wants because she was a crappy friend, but being angry with Michael for dating someone else, no matter who that person was, would only make him look like an ass, which is probably why he had no anger toward Michael on the show. The people who think he should be angry with Michael look like hypocrites, especially since many of them happily also ship Alex with Forrest or Kyle or sometimes even Max, Michael's brother. So, what? Only Alex is allowed to be happy with someone else when the love of his life leaves him? Michael just has to suffer? This post is not supposed to be anti Alex. I love him and don't actually think he did anything wrong in canon. What I'm calling out is the behavior of his stans, which is really not cool. Michael doesn't deserve that bullshit, and I think if Alex was a real person, he'd be pissed at anyone who thought Michael deserved for him to be angry with him and to suffer the way some fic writers try to make him.
Also, if you disagree, know you won't change my mind on this, so don't waste your time typing something out to rant at me, okay? I'll probably just delete your reply without finishing reading it. Maria DeLuca stans DNI. Miluca stans DNI. Crazy Alex stans who hate Michael even though that means Alex would hate you, DNI.

Some late-night M*ria D*Luca hate, because why not?
Looking at some of these malex gifs just reminds me of how, with They-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named, it was always about her, and what was going on with her, and how she was feeling about whatever was going on, whether it was going on with her or not, and Michael never cared one way or another. He was just there for the ride, you know? Go along with whatever conversation she would bring up, and it always lacked any heart. It's so easy for me to write Michael as indifferent or barely there during that "relationship" because everything he did felt like obligation.
He listened to her because he should, he defended her because he should, he talked to her because he should, and it was always always always about her. She never saw the issue there either. Never realized or cared that everything about their relationship centered around her. That she didn't know him and didn't care to.
Compare that to Alex? Who could see when Michael was struggling with something and wanted to know? Who actually asked and pushed and comforted? They talked about Alex's time in the military, his struggles, his fears, his family - even before they ever dated, and not nearly enough, but they did - and more than anything, they talked about Michael. What did M*ria ever know about Michael? What did she ever care to ask or question?
They wanted to pretend she was some kind of no-nonsense badass, but the only person she ever cared about defending or protecting or being there for was herself. Whenever anything came up, it was always about how it affected her. Alex, on the other hand? Sees Michael acting weird, he's not having it. His no-nonsense badass personality comes into play when the man he loves is threatened or insulted or hurting. He puts his foot down and his pride aside when he has to push past Michael's snark and find out what's bothering him. Why didn't M*ria resonate with people the way Alex did? Why didn't she get the same sympathy? People want to come up with a litany of ridiculous excuses, but the simple truth? She was fucking selfish. Not to say Michael wasn't sometimes, not to say Alex wasn't sometimes, but when it really mattered, Alex showed that his priority was Michael and Michael's feelings. M*ria showed that her priority was herself.
Anyway. Alex deserved more recognition in the show for how much he loved and how strong his love was, and I will never stop pointing it out. I'll write a fic on this soon, but I just wanted to get some feelings out while they were fresh.

is it too early to be petty that m*aria walked alex down the aisle instead of
- Greg
- Flint
- Arturo
- Kyle
- Sanders
- literally anyone who isn't the snake that got together with the love of his life behind his back, never apologised for it, treated his sexuality like a personal inconvenience to her, SA'd him and was an absolute bitch to his husband basically every time they shared screen time

So I have this malex fic, and here's the first half of the summary:
Just The Bitters
Summary:
This is CANON COMPLIANT and mentions events of dubious consent in 206 but is ANTI 206, contains what basically amounts to a FRIEND BREAKUP and is NOT Maria positive. If all that doesn't sound good to you, I cordially suggest skipping this one!
--
Comment that I got today on it and promptly deleted:
Tumblr media
*squints* now i hadn't re read this fic in a while but I ALWAYS talk about Michael being concussed when I talk about 206, and I ALWAYS have him apologize.
And I did. Partway down the page, like a couple paragraphs down. There's your second question answered.
Kept reading because hell, I'm my favorite writer and oh! Would you look at that.
Tumblr media
Literally giving her another chance. So weird. And actually? That's pretty much how it went with Kyle in high school! They stopped being friends until Kyle stopped being a homophobic shithead. I even wrote in the end notes that ideally she would get a non romantic character Arc. And I feel like I pretty heavily implied they would become friends again. Tell me you didn't read the fic without telling me you didn't read it LYDIA
Anyway, I thought this was funny (ridiculous) and some of y'all might enjoy it too. Lol

Okay, no you know what? I’m not done. Because I’m already seeing people slamming Alex stans and saying that the show at least “supported” Tyler during this time and while yeah, he wasn’t fired and written off the show if you think his time off came with no repercussions you haven’t been paying attention.
The character that he loved and felt so connected to and was so excited to play, got put in a hole in the ground and forgotten about. His soulmate wasn’t even allowed to miss him, or notice he was gone 90% of the time and spent all his scenes with the new girl who kissed him, or his ex, putting their feet up and chilling. Alex wasn’t even allowed to reach out to his cosmic soulmate!! He had to reach out to Michael’s ex, the woman who literally came between them while since season 1 Tyler’s character has not ever been allowed to be hurt or angry about any of that.
His “friends” didn’t notice he was missing and weren’t allowed to be worried about him either, just called to leave snappy voicemails about him not being there to support THEM when they needed something, and when they DID figure out he was gone, they plotted to keep it from Michael, and when that didn’t work, they actively kept Michael from going after Alex in mean and manipulative ways.
His brothers and mom as far as we know weren’t even told that Alex was missing despite m*ria supposedly still being on speaking terms with her boyfriend Greg.
Tyler poured his heart into this character and this love story and when he was unable to be there, you know Vlamis had his back and would have carried the Malex storyline for both of them, happily! We know he can do glassy eyes over inanimate objects, we know he can deliver feral Michael, we know he can banter with thin air and make us believe he’s having a conversation with “ghost” Alex. But instead of honoring this character and this love story, the character and love story (and fans) were punished with this mess.
Yes, Tyler was unable to be on set and good for him for negotiating his contract to take care of himself. This has never been about him. Remember when I said the emotional beats were big enough that the writers would have to hit some of them by accident and it felt almost purposeful because they had to work to miss all those beats so hard? I hate being right.

the number of things Maria said to Michael that are outright toxic and awful and borderline abusive given what she knew about his past and hardships is mind-boggling:
-tells a guy with a mangled hand that she will cut off his fingers one-by-one -tells a guy who spent most of his childhood in foster care and also being homeless (everyone in high school knew he slept in his truck) that he was basically trailer trash and was surprised she was “domesticated”
Like these are just off the top of his head. This woman has no tact or respect or self-awareness whatsoever

RNM Season Episode 13 - Rant
There were lots of things I liked about the finale.  And a couple things I really didn’t.  In this case I am going to split my hate list from my loved.  This post is about the things I hated.
I just… another kidnapping?  Really?  After my kidnapping rant.  I can’t even…
At least the writers finally took advantage of their ensemble cast to split into teams and do what needed to be done.
Shivani’s villain arc was fairly well written - but am I really supposed to forgive her for being willing to kill Rosa?  If they want us to truly forgive Shivani - we should have had a showdown between Arturo and Shivani.  Shivani should have been unable to go through with it when faced with the father who had already lost Rosa once. The whole setup was literally right there! It was in Shivani’s lines to Rosa about a parent shouldn’t outlive their child, because Arturo lived that!
How would that have continued?  Simple!  With Clyde coming in and revealing the truth about why he wanted the blood. Rosa telling Shivani to hook her up to the machine in order to protect Arturo from Clyde.  Same end result - but much more poignant and with the ability to feel more forgiving to Shivani at the end of it all.  Like… it was right there…
As fond as I am of Allie and her easter eggs… Heath, Liz’s ex-lab partner, couldn’t provide the answers needed instead of Allie?  Michael, who they’ve relied on to help solve every alien problem, was sent off to search for Rosa instead of Maria from the start?  We went four seasons without Allie, and I understand that was partly due to Liz - but it was also because of Kyle, and Michael, and Heath.  We had our dream alien science team.  We didn’t really need Allie.
The forced romance between Maria and Dallas honestly bothered me a lot, because it literally interfered with plots that should have happened  Including Heath reuniting with Dallas, because their lifelong connection had to be downplayed in order to sell it, apparently.  Heath literally said he wasn’t going to leave until Dallas was safe - remember that?  But, no, there’s no time for Heath and Dallas bromance.  After all,  it was more important to forecefeed us a Dallas and Maria romance instead.  I am very bitter about this.
Apparently, they can’t help but shove Maria into a romantic or sexual relationship with every available male character on the show.  Honestly, at this point, it almost feels creepy how obsessed the writer’s room is with hooking Maria up with a different guy every season - to the point of constantly messing with every friendship she has on the show in order to emphasize the importance of her current fling.  Example: She can’t concentrate on anyone but Dallas?  Not even the resurrected friend she visited the grave of monthly for ten years?
If that’s supposed to be romantic, it’s not.  Especially in the same season that Michael had to “focus” and “not let his emotions get in the way” in order to save Liz’s life while Alex was in danger. Or the countless times throughout the series where Liz had to come up with miraculous science no matter how much danger Max was in.
Nor was it okay, at all, to use Michael and Alex’s wedding to be so much about Maria’s love life.  Choosing to not allow Gregory to show up to Alex’s wedding because the writers decided they regretted pairing Maria with Gregory and him being there would interfere with her forced connection with Dallas?  Yeah, that… maybe next time don’t be so obsessed with having Maria have sex with whatever male character is available that you push her to be with Alex’s brother, whose reconnection to Alex after both their abusive childhoods was a very poignant plot that should have been allowed to find its completion in him being there for his brother’s wedding??
Alex’s pre-wedding scene should have been about Alex - not Maria’s love life.  It should have been between him and Gregory - hell, maybe have Flint even show up for it.  Y’know, Flint - the guy who had a redemption arc set up since season one when Alex hinted Jesse was blackmailing Flint?  That was further hinted in season 2 in some of his and Alex’s scenes?  But Flint disappeared after Jesse’s death, Alex’s eldest brother is a ghost in the wind, and we still never found out about his mother.  This was a scene that should have 100% been about Alex’s journey - and even if they ditched Flint’s redemption arc and chose to not have Alex’s mother or eldest brother involved at all - Gregory should have been there.
In the refusal to include that, then Liz and/or Kyle should have been there with Maria and Alex.  It should have been human squad friendship scene we deserved.  Matching the Pod Squad and Sanders scene.  Hell, if the writers hadn’t killed off Mimi for no reason, we could have even had her enter and say something cryptic and Mimi and be the one to walk Alex down the aisle.  Just… anything but using Alex’s pre-wedding scene to be about forcefeeding us Maria’s latest hookup, followed by spending more time during their damn wedding dance doing the same instead of with the couple actually getting married.
My final disappointment is the rather jumbled mess of the entire backstory of Oasis. You can really tell the writer’s room made everything up as they went.  There’s so many plotholes in the Oasis backstory you could drive a mack truck through it.  There’s conflicting information, and while Max having to restore the planet with his powers definitely works, it still leaves so much not adding up.
We’re told originally the crashed ship was refugees fleeing the planet.  With the new information, that makes sense.  The goal was to allow Max to grow up, and build the trap for Jones.  Noah claims there was a stowaway, and originally this seemed to match with Jones being on board.  But um… so what were Tezca, Clyde, and Bonnie doing on it?  What was Noah doing on it for that matter?  Why was half the aliens on the ship the very people the other half was running away from??
Why would Noah sign his letters to Rosa as Ophiuchus if that’s the name of the Jones cult?  Even if you claim he was a member of the cult, it seems odd that he would sign his letters such.  Not to mention, he should have born the mark then, according to the new version of events, and I think Isobel would have noticed if her husband had the same tattoo as her brother. He also seemed happy to bargain the Pod Squad for a way home - with either side of the war - despite having to know Jones was trapped on the planet.  For a member of the Ophiuchus cult, who supposedly were the most loyal members, and who Bonnie said did terrible things nobody else would do for Jones - that kinda makes no sense whatsoever.
What the hell did N38 do to Jim Valenti - what do his papers ultimately mean and whose side was he on?
The timeline and Tezca’s flashbacks don’t make sense.  Weren’t the original triad supposed to be undercover for the rebellion?  Why is Tezca and Nora talking about it like it was brand new?  After Max is old enough to restore the temple? Also, none of this seems to match the whole Max chained, Louise coming to save him, him running to the savior away from Nora flashbacks.  Nor does Theo working for Jones on Earth when the truth about the Triad being against him seemed to come out on Oasis in the flashbacks from season 2?
And when did Tezca have time to be brainwashed, betray them to Jones, kill supposedly all these people, and form a triad with Clyde and Bonnie… when Max and Isobel are already the age they were in the pod - meaning they should be leaving to run to Earth any day now??
Yeah, the Oasis backstory is a hot mess and this, kids, is why you always figure out the backstory first when it comes to an ongoing series.  A book, a movie, an unpublished fic?  Hey, there’s always editing for those.  But an ongoing series doesn’t have that luxury.  They can’t edit season one to match the great idea they had in season four.  What happened to show bibles?  What happened to all those lovely preplanned backstories and character histories gathered together in a secret show bible that held all the secrets for the series to come?  Can we go back to having those?  Because I feel like these days no show actually has a proper one.

RNM 4X08
So many people talked about this episode as if it was going to pay back for everything lacking in this season, at least for the Alex and Malex part of it.
People hoped for an Alex centric hour, for flashbacks, for feral Michael. Instead, there wasn't anything like this in the episode. Selling it like an episode for Malex fans was unfair, if not a blatant lie. How can it really be about a couple if they aren't the focus? If everything about them is twisted to be a mirror for someone else? There was so much Echo that it was insane. I know they're the main couple, I'm well aware, but can something not be about them? For once? At least in another character's storyline. But then, I ask myself, why am I surprised? Like always, it's Alex's story but it's not really about him. It's about everyone else. Perceiving him is about Maria and her powers, and keeping secret that he's missing is about Max and Liz's relationship. Not even Michael going feral is strictly about Alex but more about the way he reacts to things. All the promised snapping and going crazy lasted the blink of an eye and then it was all good. Michael got level headed surprisingly fast. I mean, good for him. He's really the pinnacle of emotional maturity this year. He even ends up apologizing to everyone, like he is the one in the wrong. But again, when did RNM allow anyone to be really angry? Never. If a character is lucky, it gets to scream a little bit, throw some punches or a few dirty looks around, and that's it. Unless you're Michael and you're angry at Alex. Then it's going to last two and a half seasons.
So, no Alex, absolutely no flashback of any kind, and not enough feral Michael IMO. So great for an episode that was "for Malex fans". 4x08 was hyped to be something it was not. It's sad.
I'm really not capable of considering Alex's ghostly self like it's enough. I don't really know what to do with it, and with that entire music scene. I would love to be moved by it but it doesn't work for me. Great scene for Michael, but for Malex? I want to see them play together, both physically present, not like this, with a scene that's just a cheesy attempt at pleasing Malex fans. I mean, it's an alien show, it's not like I ever expected it to make sense, but I personally draw the line at this level of cheesy. It's just on the wrong side of ridiculous for me. To be fair, the same concept worked wonders for me in "Ghost", but in that case the ghost was visible. So, maybe my problem is that Alex is still nowhere to be seen, so I don't really feel anything for this "presence". Totally my problem, I get it. I was hoping for so much more in this episode, instead the only good thing that came out of it was Michael's return of perspective on the Oasis question Vs his life with Alex (and his final breakdown in Max's arms). Took long enough.
Everything else was underwhelming for me, even other people's concerns. I didn't fully buy it, but I guess it's normal in a show where these same friendships are nonexistent since season 1. It's a struggle trying to fully believe any of it. And, even so, half of the characters don't really care for Alex, but for what he means for Michael. So, like I said before, it's a great season if you're a Guerin's fan.
I'm happy for the fans that are enjoying this season, I really am. I envy them. Watching RNM would be so much more pleasant if I was capable of doing the same. Sadly, I'm not, and I watched 8 seasons of Arrow and 7 of Agents of shield, so I'm used to a crazy amount of angst for my favorite characters. I'm even used to not seeing my favorite for a very long time. The point is that RNM did an awful job handling Alex's situation. And I don't want to hear anything more regarding the actor's availability. It doesn't matter when the writers can't come up with a compelling solution, and they didn't here.
Let's hope for 4x10 now, maybe we will see a glimpse of Alex at least. Or maybe not, who knows. I really hope so, though, even if I don't believe he will have any real importance outside of Malex in the rest of the season. Still, we'll have to cherish that, even be grateful for it, because it will be the only thing with Alex in it. Disappointed is not enough to explain how I feel about this. And I will still feel the same if they end up married. As the saying goes, it's not about the destination, it's about the journey… and I don't think it has been a great journey so far.

So it cut me off... my whole rant was leading to asking if you'd do a prompt?
If you're willing, I'd love to to see your take on that
Maria deciding her issues are more important than what's going on or just proving how selfish she is
Maybe with Kyle? And isobel or Liz gets mad and Michael wants to know why they're shocked because she's always acted like that especially with Alex so why would it be surprising

“Is Alex in?”
Michael blinked, stepping aside as Liz stormed in past him into the house, stomping her way through the narrow hallway and into the living room.
“Good morning to you, too, Ortecho,” Michael sighed, closing the door. “Me? I’m fine, thanks for asking.”
“Sorry,” she huffed, plopping her purse on the sofa cushions and looking around with her hands on her hips. “Hi, how are you? Is Alex in?”
“Nope,” he said. “Ramos called him in on urgent business.”
“What urgent business?”
He smirked. “Deep Sky business.”
“Ah,” she huffed and plopped herself down same as her bag. “So we have no idea what he has to do or when he’ll be back.”
“Well,” his smirk turned to a self-satisfied grin, “you don’t.”
She sneered. “Oh, well, good for you, being married to a top-secret agent. I’m assuming you can’t tell me?”
“Sorry,” Michael leaned back in his seat languidly. “Husband privileges only.”
“Lucky bastard. Meanwhile, at the rate things are going, Max and I won’t even have time to plan a wedding.”
“What do you mean?”
“Maria!” she burst out, shooting to her feet so quickly that Michael would’ve stumbled back if he hadn’t already been sitting. “I mean, God!” she started pacing. “She knows Max and I miss each other, we’ve been engaged for a year and he was on another planet for most of it, and her business plans for the Wild Pony just can’t wait! Every date night, every day off he gets, every spare moment I have, he’s whisked off to help her and I love her, I do, but I can’t take it anymore!”
Michael tilted his head. “And . . . you think Alex can fix this problem because . . .?”
“He’s Alex!” she dismissed. “All you have to do is vent and he figures something out, he’s a problem solver, it’s what he does, you know?” She heaved a long sigh, deflating back onto the couch. “At the very least, I’ll get to vent.”
“He’ll already know,” Michael mumbled, heading to the kitchen and pulling out a pot and tea bag.
“What was that?” she said wearily.
“He’ll already know all about it,” he repeated, turning on the faucet. “I don’t even get why you’re surprised. She’s done this kinda thing before.”
“What kind of thing?”
Michael huffed. He really hated reliving this memory, but how could Liz not see how familiar this was?
“When Alex told Maria about his feelings for me, she ignored that, too, remember?”
Liz straightened. “Th-That was different.”
“You’re right,” Michael nodded. “She doesn’t have a crush on Max, Alex isn’t over there telling her to ignore however uncomfortable you are about it, or pushing him to go for something with her.”
She clenched her jaw. “Don’t do that, Michael. Don’t put the blame on us like you didn’t walk out on him, too.”
“I know what I did,” Michael sighed, the uncomfortable feeling in his chest tightening at the thought of his Alex and the tough conversations they’d had. “But I’ve earned his forgiveness since then. Look,” he shut his eyes, “I’m not good at the whole comforting thing, and I’m definitely not wise enough to give anyone a lecture, but . . . you want to fix this thing with Maria? Do what you should’ve done when she came to you to fix it the first time, and tell her it’s not okay. Tell her some things are a little more important than what she wants.”
She searched Michael’s face as something seemed to click, and she asked, “Does he hate me? For taking sides?”
Michael grinned. “He’s Alex,” he dismissed. “He’s always loved way more than he’s hated.”
Liz expelled a long breath, then nodded to herself and calmly stood.
“Where are you going?”
“To talk with Maria,” she said. “And grab some triple chocolate chip muffins from that bakery down the street. They’re Alex’s favorite, right?”
He chuckled. “You coming back for dinner then?”
“Yeah,” she said, raising her chin as a soft smile tugged at her lips. “Me and Max. I’ll be sleeping over though. I have a sudden urge to have a girls’ night with one of my favorite guys.”

There is something deeply disturbing about having m*ria Walk Alex down the aisle aka the role typically given to the person “giving the person away” firstly this is fucked up cos they KNOW THE RESPONSE TO 2x06 secondly because having the woman who admitted she fantasised about being with Alex “give him away” to Michael is plain fucked up
This shit is disturbing no other way to put it
Who wrote this shit thinking it could in any way be good when if you wanted to do an aisle scene or whatever you had the options of:
WALT SANDERS LIKE HELLO THE MAN IS RIGHT THERE AND HE’S THE ONLY FATHER FIGURE WORTH SHIT (arturo aside I love that man so much)
Isobel or max doing it with Michael because like pod squad moments
Kyle who advocated on the side of faith in their relationship and who this would’ve made such a cute callback to his development

The keep fucking telling us that Maria is the most loyal bestest friend in the whole wide world. They never show us. We never see that. We only ever see her either just existing with the group and being mostly useless and just worrying about herself, or actively doing something in complete disregard and disrespect to her friends. Specifically Alex.
