Today I realised a thing about Harry and Hermione's dynamic and Ron and Hermione's dynamic.
Harry, because of his abusive upbringing, hates confrontation, conflicts and arguments. He hates going through interrogation or debates. So either he just ignores Hermione when she lectures him, or he just listens to her. When he has had enough he explodes driving Hermione to tears and even fear. Its said Hermione looks petrified and terrified in Harry's presence a few times in OOTP and even thinks Harry is gonna curse her with her own wand in DH. Hermione also approaches Harry with a guarded manner because she knows he is abused and she coddles him.
while Ron and Hermione are opposite. Ron and Hermione both are argumentative. Ron openly tells on her face when he thinks she is wrong and Hermione also doesn't hold back when she think he is being a git. They bicker, argue, scream heck even insult at times. But that's all. Neither of them keep the anger inside for long like Harry. That's why Hermione never looks fearful of Ron. She knows his anger is giving people cold shoulder and arguments. It's not destructive like Harry's and he doesn't bottle up his emotions like Harry either. She is truly herself in Ron's presence and she doesn't coddle him.
At a shallow glance you may think Ron/Hermione is so toxic. They always argue. But their bickering is mostly harmless. While you look at Harry/Hermione at a glance you may think wow they don't argue at all that's so healthy, but its much much worse because Hermione literally fears Harry's anger and Harry doesn't let his emotions out until he is so full with them that he explodes.

How Harmione Parallels Kataang
So I was reading snippets from Deathly Hallows, including the Harry & Harmione scenes after Ron left, and I noticed how much this non-canon ship is similar to the travesty that is Kataang.
It wasn't going to be as detailed or long as my Makorra vs Kataang post above but the thoughts just flowed.
Unequal Give and Take in the Relationship
Like Katara, Hermione gives way more than Harry to their friendship. Harry and Aang are the receivers usually. We never see Aang truly empathize with Katara when it comes to her mother and her darker side. When Harry sees Hermione breaking down in tears in DH, he literally just looks at her or ignores her crying when they sleep at night. Hermione on the other hand gives Harry hugs and pep talks whenever he is raging or sad. Harry is the exact same way with Ginny, by the way, his one true love (roll my eyes).
The instant they arrived Hermione dropped Harry’s hand and walked away from him, finally sitting down on a large rock, her face on her knees, shaking with what he knew were sobs. He watched her, supposing that he ought to go and comfort her, but something kept him rooted to the spot.
Motherly Vibes in the Relationship
ATLA literally had an episode where Katara pretended to be Aang's mom. Katara acts as the motherly figure in the group. In the Runaway episode, Katara acts like a nagging, mood-killer and Aang reacts to her like a mom when she scolds his posture. I recently posted about Aang's first earthbending lessons and how Katara was acting like a helicopter mom in those scenes. Hermione is not as motherly, thank goodness, but Hermione, like Katara, is posed as the boring, nagging friend. Harry does not enjoy her company as much as Ron's due to this nagging. He lies to her and avoids her due to her nagging. Whenever Harry is confused or emotional about something, I notice JKR usually uses the word "gently" to describe how she speaks to Harry. I notice Hermione is a lot more gentle and caring towards Harry compared to Ron a lot. She gives Harry tips on how to date Cho and coaches him on female nature. Like Katara, Hermione is the one who cooks and does the food shopping/stealing (well she did leave money at the coop and the muggle store so it is still stealing??) in their glorified camping trip. Even though Harry should know how to cook.
Threat of Violence/Intimidation
Katara is always the one who has to bear the danger of Aang's avatar state to calm him down. While Sokka and Toph run away in the desert episode, Katara is the only one left to approach Aang in this volatile state. It's not fair that Katara is forced to shoulder this burden alone. Also, I saw an avatar comic where Aang literally lavabends right in front of Katara in a tantrum when she tells him to practice firebending (it could be earthbending instead but the point stands). As for Hermione, Harry is not much better. You see this behaviour especially when it comes to Hagrid. Whenever Hermione has common sense and expresses annoyance about Hagrid, Harry often intimidates her to comply with his beliefs. I recall Hermione being frightened by Harry a lot. What a great friend. Not to mention when Harry went on his rage rampage in book 5, terrorizing Ron and Hermione. I don't care how much supposed PTSD Harry has. I understand things are rough for him, but that gives him no right to bully his friends and unleash his rage on them, especially Hermione.
Emotional Manipulation
For Katara, Aang was emotionally manipulative in Southern Raiders. He unfairly compares Katara's want for justice to Jet who tried to murder innocent people. He compares losing his pet to Katara losing her mother. Anyone who compares an animal to a human being is an idiot. Not sorry. Even at the end of the episode, he is still pushing forgiveness on her. As a Christian, I believe in forgiveness but someone should not force or guilt you into forgiveness. Harry is a bit more...messy to explain. He has used his parents' murder to guilt trip Hermione and Ron. For example, in book 1 when they were doing the magical puzzles to catch up to Moldy Voldy. The reason why I label this as emotional manipulation is because unless the plot calls for it, Harry does not care about his parents. Unless he wants something from someone. He is perfectly willing to use his dead parents to try to get Slughorne to give him the memory for Dumbles in book 6. He has a photo album he almost never looks at. He never talks much to Remus and Sirius about his parents. He never visits their grave until freaking book 7! So yeah, him using his dead parents to guilt trip Hermione, and Ron too, is 100% emotional manipulation. Also, Harry regularly uses the silent treatment or ostracization to guilt-trip people into apologizing to him. Even when he bears responsibility for the conflict. We see this with Ron, Seamus and yes Hermione. Hermione tries to protect Harry in book 3 when Sirius sends Harry that broom, and Harry, and Ron, punish her for this by ignoring her. For how long? At least a few weeks. How anyone sees the golden trio as a good friend group is a total mystery.
Selfishness / Lack of Empathy
This is kind of related to the first and fourth sections. For Aang, he is selfish when it comes to Katara. In season 3, he does not respect Katara's boundaries and gives her non-consensual kisses twice. In Ember Island Players, he nods along at the dialogue about Katara being the "avatar's girl" indicating that he is possessive of her. All he cares about is his crush and he does not care about Katara's feelings about her confusion and her desire to wait after the war to deal with romance. Aang never tries to appreciate her water tribe culture beyond the pilot episode. To the point where Tenzin completely ignores his water tribe heritage. Unlike Katara's other love interests (Jet and Haru), when Katara tries to empathize with Aang about the death of the airbenders, he never offers any recognition of Katara's loss and instead just tries to deny the airbenders are gone. Even in the northern water tribe, Aang makes Katara's anger at Pakku about HIM. Aang fails to recognize that she is fighting because of the injustice and sexism being done to HER and she's fighting for HERSELF. Aang sees how his friends lost their father figures in the invasion and in the next episode he does not care. Or at least he does not care enough to take their concerns about the next steps in the war seriously and goofs off instead. Enough of about Kataang, how does Harmione measure up?
Like Aang, Harry is very self-centered. Every time his birthday comes around he expects to be treated like a king and have his birthday be acknowledged by everyone. When he believes people have forgotten, he gets upset and pouty. Ron and Hermione's birthdays are mentioned only once I believe. Ron in book 6 and Harmione in book 5 or 6. He gives Ron a present for his bday. But what about Hermione? Zilch, nada. Hermione explicitly mentions her birthday in the text and I can't recall him giving her anything. I did a quick google search and I can't find squat! The dude makes a big stink about his birthday every year and can't even have the decency to reciprocate. I mention Harry's lack of empathy already in section 1. And it not only applies to Hermione but everyone. Including Ginny. If you really look at Harry, everything revolves around him. Harry shows very little appreciation for Hermione practically doing his homework for him. There is also a weird thing where Harry thinks to himself that he acts as a mediator for Romione but his actions show the opposite. When Ron and Hermione fight, he stays out of it and finds the whole thing annoying. Or even worse, when Hermione is feeling affectionate with Ron, Harry has a 'what about me' attitude.
Hermione was watching Ron fret over the fate of the Cattermoles, and there was such tenderness in her expression that Harry felt almost as if he had surprised her in the act of kissing him. ‘So, have you got it?’ Harry asked her, partly to remind her that he was there.
Secrecy
Both Aang and Harry hide things from their "love interest". Harry hides the fact that he was not practising his occlumency. Not only that, he actively tries to probe his connection with Moldy Voldy against Hermione's warnings. Several times he purposely hides house elf matters from Hermione, despite knowing how much she allegedly cares about the elves. For example, when he learns Slughorne is using elves to test his drinks for poison one of his first thoughts is to not tell Hermione. I don't even think Harry has a once of empathy or concern for the elves being abused like this. When Harry is fighting in the triward tournament, Hermione constantly nags him to prepare for his tasks and asks about his progress. If Harry was not such a nitwit, he would have asked Hermione for her help and she would have offered it. But instead, he lies to her and brushes her off. Aang hides Bato's map so that Katara and Sokka will not leave him for their father. At least Aang owns up to his lies. However, I do not believe Aang is fully honest about his avatar state situation after season 2. I think he tells them that he can't go into the state but I do not recall him ever revealing WHY. This inability could have cost them the war. What if there were no conveniently placed rock in the finale? Would Aang's avatar state be locked forever??
Conclusion
That's it from me. Both Kataang and Harmione are ships that lack proper respect, chemistry, maturity and trust. The girls give more to the relationship than the guys and the guys don't have any appreciation or care for their interests. Both these relationships are better off staying platonic. And even as a platonic relationship, they are still problematic. None of these kids are evil (not even horrid Harry) but these people need to either date other people and/or have some more emotional development.
Harmione is not a good ship. Harmione fans can claim how much better Harmione is than Romione and act superior all they want in the Romione vs Dramione war (all three ships are trash), but as far as I am concerned, both Hermione and Harry need serious help before they can date anyone. It's ironic really. Hermione mistreats towards Ron but then Harry turns around and mistreats her AND Ron. Harry makes it clear who's king in the golden trio. What karma. Poor Hermione.
If you want a better, more comprehensive meta on why Harmione does not work as a ship, check out this lovely gem of an essay. Have a great day!

I will never understand people who think Dr*mione and H*rmione are on the same level. Like Draco literally bullied Hermione for being Muggleborn for almost six years, while Harry and Hermione are just romantically incompatible. These two things are very different, it’s worrying that some people think that they’re on the same level of awfulness.

Hello there! 👋 So, the HP TV series is underway, and fortunately, both David Yates and Steve Kloves are NOT involved, and HBO Max stated on its Twitter that this series will be faithful to the books.
Several websites, like Collider and ScreenRant and GameRant and Reddit, have articles stating that they hope that, in the TV series, Ron and Ginny, and Romione and Hinny, will be portrayed accurately to the books. It's nice that more people are starting to recognize that both characters and both relationships were severely under-represented in the movies, as well as acknowledging that so many of Ron's best moments, and even some of Harry's moments, in the books (the real canon) were all unfairly and stupidly given to Hermione in the movies because of Kloves and Yates — who instead kept making Hermione perfect and badass when she wasn't supposed to be and kept inserting non-canon Harmony moments that literally never existed in the books. Even Bonnie Wright recently admitted, in a podcast, that she was disappointed that she wasn't allowed to portray the real Ginny in the movies.
[BTW Harmony is such a bad ship name that literally doesn't even make sense if one actually read the books — Harry doesn't like Hermione romantically because he doesn't find her attractive, he's prone to ignoring her many times, and he finds her bossy know-it-all nature to be annoying, and he doesn't like it when he and Hermione are alone together without Ron because they have next to nothing to talk about.]
[At the very least, Daniel Radcliffe said in 2014 that he was very happy that Hinny happened, and he didn't like the thought of Harmony getting together because it would've been a bit predictable.]
I have three Asks for you:
1) Would you watch this TV series when it comes out in 2025, with the knowledge that it's (hopefully) going to be faithful to the books as promised and Yates and Kloves are NOT involved?
2) What do you hope will happen in the TV series? Personally, I hope that — in addition to Ron, Ginny, Romione and Hinny being portrayed accurately — the moment where Harry and Ginny play Exploding Snap at the end of Chamber of Secrets will be added in, as a Call-Forward to Cursed Child (as a married couple, Ginny tells Harry that, after she left the hospital wing and returned to the Gryffindor common room, everyone shunned her, but Harry played Exploding Snap with her to cheer her up, and his kindness towards her in that moment caused her to truly fall in love with him).
3) How much do you want to bet that, as soon as Kloves and Yates heard that the TV series is promising to be faithful to the books, they decided to stay out of it because it meant that they couldn't insert any more controversial non-canon moments towards Hermione and Harmony anymore?
Take your time responding and answering my questions, I know I wrote a lot 😅
———————————————————————
Hiya. Sorry this took so long.
I probably won’t be watching because. A. I don’t have hbo. And. B. I don’t really thought no the books need to be adapted again so soon. If at all.
I don’t consider cursed child canon. But I do think it would be nice for hinny to get some more bonding moments because the films severely shortchanged them.
Ooooh. I bet they were tearing their hair out.
Hopefully this answers all your questions.

For anyone that thinks that Harry and Hermione just have a sibling-like bond, can you explain to me what a sibling-like bond is?
When I was in high school, I referred most of the guys I talked as “my brothers”, not because I had strong relationships with them, but because we sparred with each other. Outside of that, my relationships with them were pretty meaningless.
So with that in mind, I kind of find the fact that people say that Harry and Hermione have a sibling-like dynamic just devalues their friendship because when you see comments like those, they never seem to explain that why they think that.
One explanation could be Harry saying that he loves Hermione like a sister and he reckons she feels the same but 1) what gives Harry the impression the he sees her as a sister given that he’s had no sisters or siblings ever 2) what gives Harry the impression Hermione sees him as a brother since she also has no siblings and 3) this still does not explain their sibling-like dynamic.
Another explanation is that they just don’t have romantic feelings for each other, therefore they see them as siblings. Which is just weird and still doesn’t make sense about what Harry and Hermione’s “sibling-like” dynamic consists of.
So, what’s makes Harry and Hermione’s relationship so sibling-like?

I love how neither Romione Nor Hinny shippers have any problem with Ronarry but they all hate Harmony🤣😂
Okay this can be explained with the types of fanbase. Ronarry fans don't run down Ginny and Hermione to ship Ron and Harry. They also don't hate on Romione and Hinny for their fanon ship.
Harmony shippers on the other hand can't even ship them without bashing Ron and Ginny. A few days ago I asked a HHr shipper to give me examples why H and Hr were a good fit, they wrote me an essay why Ginny was an obsessed fangirl who used love potion on Harry and Ron was Hermione's abuser. Like bro, I didn't ask you why Hinny and Romione are bad. I asked you why Harmony is good.
This is why no one likes harmony shippers.

Hi anon. Didn't need to tell me! I was planning on ignoring the reblog. I refuse to engage with someone who does not approach me in good faith anymore. If chaztalk wants to promote my anti harmione post in the pro harmony tag, then whatever.

unpopular opinion about HP canon.
I know that my opinion is unpopular but I really hate hinny ship. And I hate Ginny from books. She is rude ( Fleur, Ron, Luna ( Ginny was the firs who called her Loony)). She used other boys when she still has feelings for Harry. And when these boys aren’t necessary to Ginny as she has a chance with Potter she threw boys away. Her jokes aren’t funny. And I don’t believe in her deep feelings to Harry. They met only few weeks ( only one chapter in six book). She didn’t try to find way to go for hunting and to be with Harry in his dangerous adventure (what will do every girl who is in love). She told that Harry will be not happy if he doesn’t fight with Volan-de-Mort. That’s why she likes him. And I think she doesn’t understand Harry because he doesn’t want to fight but he must do it. And I hate her for the phrase - I like for this desire to take part in the war and be hero. I am sure that people love other people without any reasons and conditions, just because these people are ( girl should love Harry just because he is Harry). And she even didn’t worry that Harry could die during their hunting, but she was upset with the fact Harry had broken with her. She thought only about herself. So in my opinion, Ginny is little spoiled rude girl who wants boy from her dreams.
As for pairings…
Frankly speaking, I think that in the books there are not any good love story lines. I see really good potential love stories Harry/Hermione and Ginny/Neville. Harry and Hermione have the long story. Their relations are based on loyalty, respect, friendship and love. Sometimes it looks like they could speak with each other without any words. In the canon they were together for long period time. The Weasleys were far away, Ron had gone off and abandoned them. So they were alone in the whole world and can rely only on each other. The motto of their relations is you and I against the whole world. And really like dance scene in the film as it was definitely strong emotional moment- Let s be happy today cause tomorrow maybe not come. Their characters are good compatible - impulsive Harry and logical Hermione. They already had deep feelings between them. They just needed little romantic chemistry that would appear if Rowling did not insisted on the idea of big Weasley family. The same I can say about Neville and Ginny they are like Harry and Hermione (but opposite) where Ginny is fem Harry and Neville is male Hermione. And they can have their own story during the last year of Hog. Neville became a brave leader and he can become Ginny s own hero, and their story will not be founded on childish desire and dream. But as for Harry and Ginny they did not have anything common except quidditch. They do not have strong foundation for future relations and it was obvious that they even did not talk to each other a lot during books 1-5. and here Rowling started to make nonsense . She decided that all should marry with Weasley (I find this idea annoying. I suggest that Weasleys are good persons but they are not perfect and they have problems. Opposite, when I was reading Books i was tired from this family as they WERE EVERYWHERE as cockroaches). And because there was not anything between Harry and Ginny (well Ginny had obsession of Harry) Rowling started to create perfect Ginny that would suits Harry. And she failed with it it and spoiled Ginny as protagonist. It would be much better if she was simple girl who was in the shadow of her brothers but before the battle she showed her strengh and confronted her mother - No! I have grown up and i will stay and fight. And she would go with Neville to blow up the bridge. Insted of it in the books she is just rude spoiled girl who bullies her brother, Fleur. She can cursed everyone just because he or she have bothered her. Her jokes are not funny. She used boys and when she had chance with Harry she threw Dean away as a rubbish without any thought. And their relations with Harry continued only few weeks so there cannot be any deep feelings (JUST A CHEST MONSTER). That is why I think that canon ships are unrealistic and they are the worst thing that was with Harry Potter world. So… I prefer Harry and Hermione
