Please don't think I'm trying to trick you into doing my homework for me, BUT... you obviously know Gondor/Men/Númenóreans much better than I do, so I come seeking headcanons and advice!
Your "Speaking Tongues" masterpiece is set in 3006, so you must have given thought to what Boromir's life was like in those years, when he was new as Captain and still in the fresh years of this 20s. Do you have any headcanons of his activities, duties, and military accomplishments in those days? Obviously there were already rising conflicts and troubles with Mordor going on, but how involved do you think Boromir was in them when he was younger? Were there any significant experiences that might have molded him?
You always seem very detailed and action oriented in your fics, so I see you as one of the best people to ask! 😊 I don't want to cause you to spoil your own fics, so please be as vague as you need to! Thank you in advance.
I ALWAYS HAVE TIME TO TALK ABOUT BOROMIR, so thank you for this ask :D
A lot of my headcanons about Boromir's upbringing have already been included in my works, but I can share a few details here :D
1. Adolescence. I headcanon that both Boromir and Faramir were knighted when they entered adulthood, and as such, had to first have been squires. In my AU, Boromir squired under his uncle the Prince of Dol Amroth, and so has formed a closer relationship with Imrahil and his family. Faramir was not afforded such honour, and istead squired in Pinnath Gaelin, where he met and befriended Lord Hirluin.
2. Courtship. It seems unrealistic to me that Boromir would remain unmarried for so long, with no efforts from the Steward to secure the line. He was an heir to a kingdom! And his dad was a control freak! So I headcanon that Boromir was previously engaged. To whom, and what became of her, would be too much of a spoiler :D
3. Titles & duties.
I based the hierarchy of Minas Tirith on the scarce information from the books and took some elements from Lord of the Rings Online.
Over the years, as the Steward gradually descended into a paranoia, Boromir was saddled with more and more official duties. At being knighted, he received the title of Captain of the White Tower (the Citadel) - in my headcanon a leader of the Steward's Knight Cavalry. This had been a title historically given to the Heir to the Throne of Gondor, and it was the title that Boromir used in the books during the introductions in Rivendell. This title also came with certain representative functions at the Steward's Court (which Boromir absolutely hated). It also granted Boromir a privileged seat in the Council of Gondor.
Later Boromir got appointed Captain-General (at the age of 28). This meant he became the leader of the five Captains of Minas Tirith, the Barons of Anorien, and the main coordinator of Gondor's armed forces. Faramir mentions this title of Boromir in Return of the King.
However, later, when Boromir was 33, he also became High Warden of the White Tower (the Burg). Again, Faramir mentions this as one of Boromir's titles in the books. I headcanon that this title gave Boromir jurisdiction over the Citadel Guard, which essentially made Boromir the chief of Minas Tirith Police.
Now that is A LOT of responsibility to saddle one person with, however, at that point Boromir was well used to working over his capacity. The reason the Steward did this was because he, forseeing the war with Mordor, wanted to consolidate power and strengthen the position of the Steward relative to the Council. By giving those titles to his son and heir, he gained advantave over the other great houses. He also did not want the control over the army and the city to go to any of the rival councillors.
(Poor Boromir needs years of therapy after dealing with all this.)
4. As for possible military campaigns and adventures, I sort of need to do further research on this myself. I try to build over canon and expand it wherever I can :D
Thank you for asking!!! I could talk about Boromir for hours! <3

This day in Middle Earth history: March 10, TA 3019
The Dawnless Day. The Muster of Rohan: the Rohirrim ride from Harrowdale. Faramir rescued by Gandalf outside the gates of the City. Aragorn crosses Ringlo. An army from the Morannon take Cair Andros and passes into Anorien. Frodo passes the Cross-roads, and sees the Morgul-host set forth.

hmm so the red-grey sky and massive reeds immediately had me thinking of the edge of the Dead-Marsh in Dagorlad, but there aren't any trees there. I'm thinking somewhere in Old Anorien, the Mouths of Entwash perhaps?

Order to Play Quests of Different Regions in LOTRO
Play quests in level order, even if the character is strong or survivable (eg. healer can survive better), because some enemies of higher levels get immune to damage.
Overview of the order of play
War in the North (Eriador): The Witch-king
War in Rohan: Saruman
War in Gondor: Sauron
Last region: Mount Doom
The best order is
First, play from the beginning to last region in Rhovanion (Lothlorien) and go to The Great River.
Second, play to Kingstead (Edoras) where there are 3 possible ways next: To Isengard direction (Merry, Pippin, Rohan war), to Gondor direction (Aragorn, Legolas, Gimli, Gondor war), to Mordor direction (Frodo, Sam).
To avoid the immunity problem of enemies, play in this order: (1) To Isengard, then (2) to Gondor, then last (3) to Mordor.
Note about the above order :
After Westfold and Isengard, go to the Paths of the Dead (PotD), but after the PotD, go to Old Anorien (Minas Tirith) instead of Far Anorien (extra area, higher levels than Old Anorien).
The Roads:
Recommended play order: Main quests (Epic) first, if out of current region, do side quests. Or at least, complete main quests of current region before moving to next region.
Eriador
The Shire -> Bree-lands -> Lone-lands -> Trollshaws -> Eregion
And other regions in Eriador
Rhovanion
Moria -> Dimrill -> Lothlorien
And other regions in Rhovanion
Rohan
The Great River -> 3 ways (in order of levels):
Merry/Pippin's way: Fangorn -> Isengard
Aragorn/Legolas/Gimli's way: Regions to Kingstead -> (1) Kingstead -> Isengard, and (2) Kingstead -> Paths of the Dead
Frodo/Sam's way: Cross quickly to Ithilien (hard levels, continue to Gondor first)
And other regions in Rohan
Gondor
Blackroot Vale -> Lamedon -> Central Gondor -> Dor-en-ernil -> Lebennin -> Lossarnach -> Pelennor (Minas Tirith) -> Osgiliath -> Ithilien
And other regions in Gondor
Mordor
Ithilien -> (1) The Wastes, (2) Morgul Vale -> Gorgoroth -> Mount Doom
And other regions in Mordor

Hi! Sorry to bother you, but will alot of LOTRO content overhauling how players interact with Harad and Umbar coming out in general I was wondering, do you think that in future expansions they'll ever address or fix "anything" about the Druedain? I genuinely find them interesting and definitely more deserving than what they got and it does seem the game writers are slowly inching to fix what wad damaged in the pace by giving nuance
WELL... I would say they are certainly putting effort into doing that. They always have chosen to try and give sidelined communities more agency and identity and nuance, it's in the nature of a large MMO that needs a lot of content for each area to do so, and the Druedain you meet in both Anorien and Mordor have vastly more to them than the original text ever allows. You get a lot of interactions with them and their life style, marriages, perspectives, histories and how they remember things, there's more personal connection with them. BUT LIKE... I'm not sure how much one can rehabilitate the concept of broken-english-speaking grass-skirt-wearing 'wild men', and LOTRO doesn't interact with the fact that the rohirrim hunted them for sport at all. Which is not surprising, it would be very difficult to keep us emotionally invested in characters who might have hunted people for sport, but given it's a part of the original Drughu narrative it still means we are leaving those aspects behind rather than addressing them. To be honest the Drughu, as like a blindlingly clear representation of tolkien's idea of indigineity, likely south american indigineity, are such a massive topic that I don't feel capable of even conceptualising what addressing them would even mean or look like. But as it is, LOTRO is not shying away from including them or giving them narratives of their own.

Actually @poet-tree-lines here are the data charts as they currently stand (3/3/2023).
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The colors in the Eriador chart are part of a work in progress and currently irrelevant. After-battle Anorien includes Midsummer Minas Tirith. I have minor, unproven suspicions that your chances of catching cookable fish are lower in the Barrow-downs and higher inside Gath Forthnir (although all Angmar numbers are surprisingly prolific, given Angmar.) All regions include all instances that take place in a physical location inside that region, even if the instance was begun in a different region (as is often the case with missions and the like). This includes instances that take place in an indoor location inaccessible from the landscape of the region, and I appreciate that attention to detail. Fishing is not available in the Blood of Azog version of the Dimril Dale. All data was collected on a character with a capped fishing skill, using the Exquisite Elven Fishing Rod, and with Erebrandir's Horseshoe equipped.

there are now 4 instances (not actual instances) of a big white stag running away from you when you try to hunt it in lotro and i’ve always found it to be one of lotro’s more obscure mysteries. there are two named ones in enedwaith and wildwood, the latter is even mentioned in a deed text of the region. one in west gondor runs away from you, as does one in old anorien, where it’s seen that white flowers grow wherever it stands.
I have a strong feeling it’s related to the rhi helvarch in enedwaith (at least the white stag there has an explanation for why it’s there, kind of?) but for a long time i thought the other 3 stags were arassiel, the lesser spirit who took the ghostly form of one found in enedwaith. until wildwood where this one has a different name. it could still be that person, just with different names in various regions. if not, i like to think that it’s other servants of orome keeping an eye on the wilds of middle earth, as well as serving more references to the silmarillion in a game that doesn’t quite have the rights to it but knows how to filter it in through different names and, as i’ve said, little encounters like these.

13, 16, and 20? (I'm just trying to get you to post pics of outfits, lol, maybe tips for dressing dwarves)
13. Any idea how many alts you have?
UhhhHHhh maybe 25? 12 on Crickhollow, assorted on like 7 other servers. I've been more active on Landroval recently, but Crick is still home sweet home
16. Do you have a favorite race to play? Favorite combos of race and class?
You know, I'm most partial to Standard Dwarves, but by pure numbers I have the most Men alts. I don't know why. I feel like Dwarf Guard also is so fun. So stereotypical (for lotro) but so, so nice
20. Do you spend a lot of time on cosmetics- outfits, weapons, housing, pets? Do you have any favorites?
Oh you know I do. And since you asked so nicely, I'll give you a dwarf fashion show as well as tips? I guess? on Choosing Dwarf Looks TM
Before I begin, remember to think about the beards! If the collar of your shirt is its' strongest point, maybe save it for someone with a short beard.
I'm going to start with the highlight:
Tumblr media
Now, this is a Curator piece, but there's a very close match in Erebor or Ered Mithrin somewhere and it's going to do great to illustrate my thesis (which I'll get to in a second)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Here we have Ruutbier and Throwan showing off the versatility of this piece. You can go from cozy winter adventurer to spring flinger to mysterious Anorien traveler all with one shirt. Now, I like my Dwarves in some sort of hood item, but as you can see there's a lot of range even there. It's classy, it's timeless, it dyes very well.
But! It's not the only thing you can use (even though it's 6/8ths of Throwan's wardrobe)
This is my central point: because of the way Dwarves are modeled, you're going to be able to get your results by paying attention to how the waistline of the shirt is modeled. The different waistlines are usually a big hint in how the chestpiece will look!
Say you want something like my Grey Mountains Elite fit here? That's a hefty but streamlined dwarf. Centerline simple waist and no skirt/volume in the legs. Add bulk to the shoulders and you're looking at a hammer shape. De-emphasize them with a shawl and there's a sturdy fellow who looks quite hug-able. Your options are limitless and a lot of them are greatly impacted by the breadbasket.
Cases in point:
A Round Dwarf, Perfectly Circular:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Throwan is modeling Identical accessories but look! A busy (read: modeled vs. textured) waistline gives us a rounder look. The first chestpiece is the Remmo light armor, which looks relatively uninteresting on Elves and Men. See how those belts, buckles, and bags change the look of the whole thing!
Tasteful Tapering:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Here we have 3 very different looks (in Light, Medium, and Heavy) demonstrating the effect you can get with a centerline waist and a very minimal belt. The wide Dwarf-stance gives it an almost hourglass look, but can be emphasized or de-emphasized by shoulders and boots. (note: heavy modeling on the calf parts of your boots will really shine! if they're not scrunched to oblivion)
A Wide-Sweeping Statement
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Back to Throwan! We're in identical accessories again to show off the different ways a skirt will sit. Robes with centerline, well-defined but simple waistlines will flow nicely (left) and not give your Dwarf an ill-fitted look. Non-robes with greater-than-knee-length elements will become tea length easily on your Dwarf (center). But this one still gives a little flourish at the hem and maintains a round look. Dresses are hit or miss (right). I think this one works because the greatest emphasis on this model across races is the skirt instead of the chest. It sweeps out wider than Throwan's excessive shoulder pads and bounces back from the odd effect created by a center-ribcage waistline.
Interesting Results:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
These three are examples of things I didn't expect out of a chestpiece. The Dwarf-make jacket (left) looks meh on Men/Elves but manages to pull off both the Round and Visible Chest Design looks on a Dwarf, so, a win. The Breastplate of the Honed Blade (heavy Pelennor, center) has a lot of emphasis in the chest but still manages a sturdy look with a visible White Tree Motif past the beard. A rare find!
I don't know what's happening with the Sunflower Dress (right). The waist is on the ribcage but it also acknowledges the waist on the model. I personally don't love it.
So yeah! The waistline of your chestpiece determines the whole look 9/10 times because Dwarf Model. Go find those Shapes! Get your Dwarf Runway Ready!

8, 17, 22? :D
8. Do you have a favorite and/or least favorite instance?
first, it occurs to me i maybe should have differentiated between quest instances and instance-finder instances
for quest instances... ‘the captive’ probably. i really love that whole stretch of the epic, and that instance is one of my favorite parts. least favorite... idk, i’m not that much of a fan of the whole thinglad questline. there’s a few instances in there but i just. idk lol i don’t care for it
17. Do you have any particular playstyle(s)? (solo vs group play, landscape questing, pvmp, roleplay, etc.)
most of the time i’m just doing landscape stuff solo, but sometimes i’ll group up with friends to help with things or just hang out. i started getting into a little bit of the endgame-ish stuff, but the most i really do is fast pug runs. rp... someday maybe lol. atm i’m still bad at it tho lol
22. What are your thoughts on crafting?
love it :D it’s great for gear early game, and idk. i just find it enjoyable lol. a lot of it ends up being less useful from... i wanna say level 65 through 95, where it can be good but usually you’re leveling through so fast it’s not always worth your time to grind rep to get the recipes you need. and then once you hit anorien tier crafting kinda just. drops off. you still use it for consumables and stuff, but crafted 120/ironfold gear? you do two quests for shades in the swamp into mordor besieged and you’re replacing it, and it takes a ton of specialty materials- rimes of the anvil? a pain to get your hands on even when you don’t need them for the crafted relics for LIs. but i do like crafting! it’s fun!
