In 1558, however, the miracle happened. On Monday, 28 November, to the cheers of the London crowd and the roar of the Tower artillery, Elizabeth came through the gates to take possession of the fortress as queen. The bastardized daughter of the disgraced Anne Boleyn, with her father’s complexion but her mother’s face, splendidly dressed in purple velvet: Elizabeth, by the grace of God, queen of England, France and Ireland, defender of the faith. Is it fanciful to feel that after twenty years, the mother in the nearby grave in the chapel of St Peter was at last vindicated?

Sorry for being annoying over Anne x Jane but if you ever would have the chance to adapt this ship how would you do it?
by ‘adapt’, do you mean for a dramatisation? because i strictly believe that we need to put a moratorium on tudor related media (excluding henry vii and maaaaybe mary i since they’re underrepresented as is, and it would annoy the right people). so i don’t want an adaptation, frankly.
as for an ideal adaptation… well, i liked the idea of anne and jane’s dynamic in wolf hall — but not anne’s characterisation. it was so belligerent in stripping her of warmth and humanity, and this collective amnesia about criticisms of mantel’s handling of women (and gender) now that she’s dead is really something. personally, i’m fine with violently and bodily shoving her from her pedestal. on a similar strain, channel 5’s anne boleyn tried to give us a similar dynamic — of anne being unsettled by jane, whilst simultaneously looking down at her, and (again) i like the idea of anne being curious about jane, and the dynamic of gender/femininity being played with, with the two being seemingly polar opposites in ideological opposition, but nothing was delivered on that front. for as much as lola talked about jane being ‘machiavellian’... literally nothing was shown really exploring that. the kiss felt like everything else in that show: hollow, trying to be reactionary. you can’t try to explore that dynamic and simultaneously refuse jane any characterisation beyond the periphery of anne’s perspective; it’s imbalanced. also, i don’t like how these adaptations take every opportunity to make anne abusive to others — she is always depicted as putting her hands on jane (as well as striking others) and anne boleyn (channel 5) has her sexually harassing jane. i am not opposed to depicting anne as violent or abusive (there’s arguably evidence for it) but it seems notably one-sided: jane dormer’s account implies jane gave as good as she got (“scratching and bye blows between the queen and her maid”), and jane was clearly willing to undermine and displace her mistress which contradicts the idea of jane as passive/complacently honourable.
arguably the tudors s2 threads the needle the best? anne is irascible and clearly agitated and unsettled by jane, who is shown to be actively involved in her faction, and evidently lacks respect for anne. it just doesn’t take it far enough on characterising jane/giving her a clear motivation, and walks all of it back by s3, anyway.

I’m happy that other Tudor figures are getting attention in media (BE, Firebrand) as an AB fan, selfishly, I’m wondering when we’re gonna get the next Anne thing 😂
Oh I wouldn’t worry too much. Anne Boleyn is never too far from pop culture.
So far in this decade, she’s appeared in, been the focus of, or been mentioned in something every single year of the 2020s.
2020 we got The Spanish Princess season 2 and, despite the fact that, historically, Anne wasn’t even at the English court for 99% of the events depicted, somehow she was always there, in the background (and Alice Nokes was such a beautiful ray of sunshine)
2021 was, like, the Year of Anne™️: first was The Boleyns: A Scandalous Family which I think we’re all kind of sleeping on tbh; then there was Spencer which gave us THIS lovely gem:
Tumblr media
And to finish it off there was the Channel 5 miniseries which features a criminally under-appreciated depiction of Henry VIII
2022 gave us the frankly iconic Blood, Sex & Royalty; she was also directly mentioned in Becoming Elizabeth and Elizabeth is depicted wearing her B necklace
2023 was, admittedly, a bit of a dry year for Anne, but there was this little doc from Historic Royal Palaces which may seem like an insignificant documentary but the actress playing Anne is called Aliona Baranova which is the first time (to my knowledge) an actress playing Anne has had the same initials as her
Also, let’s not forget Six the Musucal. I know it’s controversial, but it’s still running on both the West End and Broadway and Anne is featured in that.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m glad when other Tudor figures get the spotlight but I also won’t apologize for wanting more depictions of Anne.
I don’t know of any new depictions of Anne coming this year but The Boleyns, BSR, AB (2021) all came on kind of unexpectedly and without a lot of forewarning so who knows…there’s still 10 months left of the year…

Dress your Livestock game:
Since you have so many livestock to take care of, I am going to give you some outfits and you are to choose for whom they would fit best:
(1) a little black dress (revealing)
(2) a gothic dress (of your choice)
(3) formal channel suit (pinkish or blueish; specify)
(4) Anne Boleyn dress
(5) male suit (like you have for a female livestock)
(6) Lolita dress
(7) formal kimono
One outfit, one livestock.
Because I am very curious!!!
“So many livestock to take care of…? What on earth are you talking about? Oi, don’t just leave all these resplendent garments on my doorstep. I have no use for—“
Tumblr media
Before he could finish speaking, Ruki found himself alone with one scanty yet silky smooth little black dress, two midnight onyx gothic dresses, three tweed Chanel suits (two in pale pink, one in baby blue), four Anne Boleyn dresses that spilled onto the floor when removed from the packaging, five extravagant suits of a masculine style, six pastel-colored lolita dresses, and seven unisex formal kimonos, all adorned with ornate patterns and shapes.
Tumblr media
“Good grief… I don’t have the time, space, nor patience for this. Though I already have ideas of who to assign each outfit to. Yes, these shall suit them quite nicely… If they are so willing to don such unusual attire, that is. I suppose a master must reward his livestock every now and then.”
Tumblr media
First, the Vampire examined the little black dress, stunningly beautiful despite not leaving much to the imagination.
“Ah, this dress doesn’t reveal the stomach at least. In that case, it’s perfect for Irina ( @iricathel ). While it’s not modest in the chest area, it would suit her hourglass figure to a T.”
Tumblr media
Second came the two gothic dresses, the color of umbral shadow much like the previous garment.
“Hm… I always see him crossdressing. In fact, this seems to be right up Lukas’ ( @princesscrownprince ) alley. It wouldn’t be his first choice, sure, but something tells me he won’t ever quiet down over receiving an unsolicited gift from me. Well, no matter. I’ll gladly give this to him.”
A redheaded Ghoul who often wore Victorian style clothing came to mind with the other gothic dress.
“It’s rare for me to gift anything to Scarlett ( @kindan-no-kanojo ), but I get the feeling she would not only appreciate this dress, but also look marvelous in it as well. The lack of hue contrasts immaculately with her vivid red hair.”
Tumblr media
Third came the formal Chanel suits. A stubborn yet resolute girl bearing the mark of a crown and his benefactor’s initial came to mind for the blue one in particular.
“How appropriate for a student council president. I ought to give this to Caria ( @cursed--requiem ). Surely she can’t refuse such sophisticated garb.”
After remembering a ball with the half-Vibora half-Founder, it became clear to Ruki who should don one of the pink suits.
“Ah, Aleksi ( @besnella )… This pink suit would complement her auburn locks perfectly. She seems like a very determined woman despite our short time acquainting ourselves with one another, but I’d certainly like to see her wear this.”
One pink suit remained. A diligent Vampire who refused to prey on innocence surfaced in his thoughts.
“Somehow this outfit looks like it belongs in Maria’s ( @veiledsagacity ) wardrobe. It undoubtedly gives off an educated and reserved vibe. Come to think of it, I haven’t asked her for her date of birth, yet she gifted me presents for my own birthday. I hope she will appreciate the gesture in return.”
Tumblr media
Next, Ruki took out the Anne Boleyn dresses, pondering to himself who should accept such intricately designed clothing reminiscent of eras past. A lavender-haired Witch immediately came to mind.
“Josephine ( @thatonefrenchwitch ) would look utterly remarkable in this dress. I can already picture her long hair cascading over such lustrous fabric. Heh, she’d truly look like a Witch wearing this. I truly can’t wait to see it.”
Then a certain blonde came to mind, one with a penchant for fashion.
“Ah, it may not be her style per se, but Serena ( @serenaleblanc ) would look absolutely breathtaking if she were to don this dress. Perhaps she can even appraise the worth of such mysterious clothing as well, given her talents.”
Visions of a cheeky bandaged girl wearing one of the Anne Boleyn dresses swirled in his imagination.
“Indeed, Shoma ( @komori--shoma ) might not be opposed to wearing this. I’m certain she’d appear bewitching, wearing such vibrant colors against her alabaster hair and complexion.”
Last but not least, Ruki considered his benefactor’s very own daughter.
“There is no dress out of this selection more appropriate for the daughter of Karlheinz-sama. Yes, Yuuko ( @sakamaki--yuuko ) wouldn’t oppose to wearing this, especially when she’d look like a princess straight from a fable.”
Tumblr media
Drastically different from the other selections, the Vampire then averted his gaze to the five suits. He set aside three for his brothers, leaving two left for a generous gift. The taciturn yet intellectual classmate and companion from the academy could use formal attire, or so Ruki surmised.
“Come to think of it, I’ve never seen Virek ( @crimson-mayhem ) wear anything quite as dignified as this. I do look forward to his reaction when I give this suit to him… Perhaps he’ll utter a word or two and nothing more, but what matters is that he wears it in the end.”
Then his much adored bounty hunter came to mind. Indeed, Ruki looked forward to seeing the half-Founder wear extravagant attire as if they were attending a grand event under cover together.
“Ah, Mystic ( @mino-diabolik )… You would look even more ravishing than you already do in this suit. It’s not often that I give him any sort of tangible gift, but I do hope he appreciates it nonetheless.”
Tumblr media
Nearing the bottom of the abundance of clothes, Ruki directed his attention towards the delicately adorned lolita dresses. The girl who supposedly respected his benefactor just as much, if not more than he did very clearly had a penchant for this type of garb. A smile rose on his lips after realizing the heaven-made match.
“Nunnally ( @lured-into-wonderland ) is wearing this—no ifs, ands, or buts about it. It’s an order she cannot refuse, not that I believe she would anyway. It would appear wondrous on her.”
The elven maid surfaced in his thoughts as well. A promising reward for one so steadfast.
“This would compliment Estella’s ( @yourlocaltea ) silver hair with the utmost pulchritude. It may be a bit childish for her but regardless I believe she should wear other clothes aside from her servant attire.”
Next, an ostensibly cheerful sacrifice came to mind.
“Honestly, it’s difficult for me to imagine Sunny ( @sunny-flower-spot ) wearing such an elaborate dress, but it’s equally as bright and light-hearted as her. I’m sure it’s in her nature to try new things every now and then.”
And how could he forget the obnoxious pink-haired shapeshifter?
“Ah, Metsu ( @metsu-san )… This lolita dress looks a bit fancy for her liking, and knowing her she might ruin it somehow, but it’s better to give her this than any of the other options.”
Furthermore, the aspiring dance instructor also looked like a suitable fit for the lolita attire.
“Fiona ( @misslittlefounder ) should wear this. The many ruffles and bows are a tad feminine but nonetheless I can see her donning the dress with aplomb.”
Unlike the previous girls, a woman with a more dark and defiant aesthetic to her arose in his vision.
“How ironic would it be to give such a pastel dress to Kira ( @yourlocaltea ), of all people? I’d be humored to see that.”
Tumblr media
Finally, only the fancy kimonos required recipients at this point. The Vampire rummaged through the deluxe clothing and textiles, vacillating between options on the fortune person who would wear the spectacular garb, impressive enough to strike inspiration in all who laid eyes upon it. Specifically a deft and beloved painter.
“I’m certainly no artist, but not even the most skilled in the world could capture Ellen’s ( @ana-darkcloud ) beauty if they were to wear this kimono. I should give it to them posthaste.”
Idols would often model these traditional outfits in spirit of the festivals that took place in Japan, however, knowing that Kuron took on both the role of idol and teacher, Ruki surmised a summer festival would be just what he needed to reserve a day of respite to himself.
“This kimono would suit Kuron ( @mukami-kuron-mrsadisticcat ) splendidly indeed. I know he most likely already has his own, but I’m hoping he will at least accept this as a token of my gratitude.”
Speaking of which, students would frequent such events as well. Including a particular girl from the academy, or so the Vampire thought.
“Angelica ( @dialovers-angelica ) might not have a proper kimono for this summer after all. Last time I checked, her family isn’t exactly affluent and the garments tend to be expensive. Therefore, she ought to be impressed with this formal wear. I wonder if she has ever worn one so elegant.”
While Ruki still didn’t know Nami Arisu all that well yet, he hoped to close the distance between them and use an opportune moment where they could both go outdoors in their kimono to better acquaint themselves with one another.
“Hm… That girl from the academy would look charming in a formal kimono. She seemed interested in my cooking and the books I’ve read, so perhaps Nami ( @sunturbogel ) might appreciate this gift from me as well.”
Although she was far from mortal, Ruki considered giving a kimono to his coveted acquaintance who also attended the academy. Cyra Abbas, a woman who, unbeknownst to the Vampire, lived on this earth far longer than he could’ve imagined.
“I realize that Cyra ( @cyra-abbas ) usually sticks to her white and gold aesthetic, but I do think that a formal kimono such as this would bring out her beauty so effortlessly. Perhaps her and I can explore the festivities in Japan and indulge in all the local cuisine.”
Daughter of Beatrix and Karlheinz, he determined Ayame Sakamaki would radiate an unforeseen glory donning such a cultural symbol.
“Ayame ( @sakamakiayame ) most likely hasn’t experienced too many opportunities to wear this exquisite garb. It’s time we change that.”
Once again, last but not least, his dear fallen seraph sprung to mind. Perhaps incisions could be made in the fabric to accommodate for their wings, but Ruki longed to see his beloved Azazel don an extravagant look, perhaps one that might temporarily distract them from the recent inner turmoil of a shattering halo and contemplations of the afterlife.
“This array of rich patterns and honored craftsmanship looks like the type of attire Azazel ( @ana-darkcloud ) might adore. I’d love to see my dear angel wear it.”
After deciding who would obtain which clothing, the Vampire sighed in exhaustion, preparing the garments for their proper imparting.  Just observing all the various textiles in their lavish details down to every delicate thread encouraged Ruki to wear a sumptuous ensemble of his own. A suit as dark as his own cinereous black strands and a tie ivory as his fangs.
“With this, everything is ready.”
Tumblr media
🧩 DISCLAIMER: THE AU’S ARE STILL SEPARATE. I JUST COULDN’T THINK OF A BETTER WAY TO DISCUSS ALL OF THEM IN ONE GO WITH EVERYTHING STILL MAKING SENSE 😭 but I promise there is no infidelity happening here. This isn’t a harem Rooks scenario. Anyway, I apologize for any unwanted tags but I also wanted to find a loophole that would allow me to include more than just seven OCs. Feel free to reply if you want but omg I might end up typing starters for each person mentioned with the outfit they are receiving… Who knows. We’ll see if my motivation permits me to do so, ahaha. In any event, I thought this was such a cute idea. I’d love more asks like this in the future honestly. 🏃‍♀️ 🧩

Your posts about the historical stuff are really cool! Do you have any recommendations for documentaries, too?
Actually yes!
I have one specific film that I recommend to everyone called Ghosts of the Abyss, from when a team of scientists and filmmakers sent cameras into the wreck of Titanic back in 2001.
There are also a few YouTube channels to look at that are really good including History Tea Time with Lindsay Holiday, UsefulCharts, and History Matters.
As for individual documentaries, here's a small list for you to check out of my top 5:
Save the Titanic with Bob Ballard
Secrets of Egypt's Lost Queen
Hampton Court, Secrets of Henry VIII's Palace
The Last Days of Anne Boleyn
Cleopatra: Portrait of a Killer

Why is studios hiring minorities a bad thing? How is studios hiring minorities a bad thing? Is it a bad thing because you personally feel like its shoehorned and insincere and that these modern movies/shows focus way too much on saying "WE HAVE LGBTQIA+ AND POCS ISNT THAT GREAT?" or is it a bad thing because it doesnt align with your particular politics and worldview? If the existence of marginalized ppl in modern media is what you consider "virtue signaling" then idk what youre talking about
I have no issue with studios hiring people of all different races, just so long as they are the best people for the job. As an example of that, my last post talked about how much I am enjoying Better Call Saul: in that show, Michael Mando as Nacho Varga and Giancarlo Esposito as Gustavo Fring are both fantastic actors, stealing the show whenever they're onscreen, but at no point does it ever seem they are being shoehorned into ill-fitting roles that make no sense:  it’s obvious that they are perfectly cast and the very best people on the planet for those specific parts.  They’re not being cast as 300lb Norwegian opera singers from the 1700s.
Whereas, a couple of years back, Channel 5 notoriously cast a black woman as Anne Boleyn in a show they made. Now, Anne Boleyn is not a fictional creation but an actual historical personage, the actual Queen of England and the mother of another, Elizabeth the First. Neither of these very pale real-life personages were African, so to insert a black actress into this role is just insulting to both the facts of history and the audience’s intelligence. Needlessly confusing, too. There is simply no justifiable reason to do such a thing, but the TV companies have allowed activists to push for hiring quotas that insist on such nonsense and can only distract from the quality of the work.
Netflix followed that up a year later with yet another race-swapped historical figure, Queen Charlotte, wife of George III:
Tumblr media
Once again, this was a real person, with great, great, great, great grandchildren still alive today. Within this fictional retelling are they black too? It’s as much an insult to their memory and the indisputable facts of the situation as it would be to cast Adam Sandler and Steve Buscemi as Martin Luther King and Malcolm X in a biopic about the civil rights movement.
But of course that would never happen: the traffic only ever runs one way, with only one political agenda.
Another example: Amazon’s forthcoming “Rings of Power” show, where they have inserted black elves(!) into Tolkein's world that cannot possibly make any sense and makes a mockery of the painstakingly constructed mythology and world histories he spent a lifetime creating.
Tumblr media
Or the numerous recent BBC adaptations of historical dramas that race-swap lead characters in, for instance, Charles Dickens' stories that make no sense being there and would have stood out like a sore thumb at the time.
All these things are there only to push to a specific political narrative, and they all make the works actively, objectively, worse, because they explicitly - even enthusiastically - put the work second to the politics. If you’re an artist, art should come first. If you’re a comedian, being funny should come first before preaching. In the movies and TV today, art doesn’t even come tenth, and that’s what I’m against.

I saw your post on how much you hate the reign (XD) and wanted to ask what is a show you feel intensely about and why? 👀
Thank you for the ask!
I’ll be honest, I kinda play up my hatred for shows like Bridgerton and Reign because in reality I know they’re fantasy and not supposed to be historical (my only real gripe with them is that they use real historical figures but eh, that’s more of a nitpick though I do have some legitimate criticisms for bridgerton but I won’t get into those)
I suppose if there’s anything that I intensely dislike, it’s not really one particular show but a whole genre, I think I’ve mentioned it before, it’s those series’s that claim to be telling the real stories of women from history but miss the mark entirely and make them a caricature of an empowering woman (not to use a bit of a meme word here but I think the word ‘girlbossify’ is very appropriate here)
This is particularly noticeable with Tudor dramas (like any adaptation of Philippa Gregory’s works like The Spanish Princess, The White Queen, The White Princess, The Other Boleyn Girl, etc. which are already bad for this I’d like to mention, the recent channel 5 Anne Boleyn miniseries, the recent(ish) Mary, Queen of Scots movie, and a few more I’m probably missing) but I have seen it with other time periods as well
I could talk at length about how reducing an actual human woman to a caricature is not the win for feminism directors think it is, but why would I do that when I can aptly summarise my issue with a quote from one of my favourite history youtubers The Laughing Cavalier where he described one of these characters as ‘Joan of Arc on steroids’ 🙃

About Black Cat®: The Black Cat® brand was introduced in the US in the 1940s and is now the oldest and most highly recognized fireworks brand in the country. Over the past 70 years, Black Cat® evolved from the basic firecrackers to a product line that contains over 500 items today! Continued focus on quality and innovation has made Black Cat® an International Brand, with presence in markets all around the world. Black Cat® continues the tradition of celebrating with fireworks that started in China several millennia ago. Around 200 B.C., people began roasting bamboo stalks until the air inside the hollow stalks would get hot enough to sizzle and explode. That is why the Chinese term for firecrackers means “exploding bamboo.” As gunpowder and fireworks spread from China to Europe over the Silk Road, fireworks began to become part of official celebrations, including the annual displays at Castello Sant’Angelo in Rome to the coronation of Anne Boleyn as Queen of England in 15331. Henry VII celebrated with a magnificent display at his wedding in 1486, there were regular displays at the Palace of Versailles in Paris, and Peter the Great of Russia sponsored a marathon 5-hour display for his son’s birth. In the US, the first July 4th celebration happened during the Revolutionary War. Since that time, fireworks have become synonymous with celebrating our country’s Independence Day.  Black Cat is proud to be a part of this important and fun American tradition. Black Cat® started in the US in the 1940s and registered with the US Patent & Trademark Office in 1952. Black Cat® is the oldest registered consumer fireworks brand in the US and is one of the most recognized fireworks brands. From 1952 to the present, Black Cat® remains “The Best You Can Get” in consumer fireworks! About Lee Greenwood: Throughout his expansive career, international country music icon Lee Greenwood has earned multiple CMA and ACM Awards, a Grammy Award for Top Male Vocal Performance on “I.O.U,” in 1985, and a multitude of other prestigious awards nominations. His discography includes twenty-two studio albums, seven compilation albums, seven No. 1 hits, and thirty-eight singles including songs like “It Turns Me Inside Out,” “Ring On Her Finger Time on Her Hands,” “She’s Lyin’,” “I Don’t Mind the Thorns if You’re the Rose,” “Dixie Road,” “Somebody’s Gonna Love You,” “Going Going Gone,” “You Got A Good Love Comin’,” among others. His stand-out hit “God Bless the U.S.A.” has been in the top five on the country singles charts three times (1991, 2001, and 2003), giving it the distinction of being the only song in any genre of music to achieve that feat.
