Look at that funky beetle! Nut weevils are beetles of the genus Curculio. They typically measure from 0.24 to 0.35 inches (6 to 9 mm). See that extra long snoot? It’s called a rostrum and females can have one that exceeds the length of their bodies. This elongated snout is the perfect tool for boring into nuts, which is where females lay their eggs. When newborn nut weevils hatch, their home is also a feast. They munch on the inside of a nut from summer through autumn, until their birth place finally drops to the ground. Once the nut has fallen, the larvae bury their way into the soil where they continue to develop—not resurfacing until they are fully grown, which can take up to two years. The medical industry wants you to believe that animal experimentation is necessary, but truth is…they get paid billions of dollars in government grants. It’s just a business for them. (And our tax dollars pay for it). Faster, cheaper, and more reliable alternatives have existed for many years now, so anyone who still chooses to test on animals is just an evil human being. There’s no other explanation for it. It’s just pure evil. Rabbits have harsh chemicals dropped into their eyes, for cosmetic testing. Monkeys have had their eyes sewn shut, to study blindness. One time, a vivisector was caught with a monkey paw ashtray made from one of the primates that mutilated and experimented on. I’ve included some photos of companies that DO and DO NOT test on animals. Policies are always changing so there are going to be some companies on there who are now cruelty free, so please, always do your research before supporting a company. Instagram has decided to give me more bad owl videos, so thought I'd share😬

Barn owls are the “standard” for pet owl creeps just starting out. If you see a person with a pet owl it’s bad, see someone with a pet barn owl and it’s both bad and really cements that they have no clue what they’re doing and just bought the one with the lowest price.

Or so I assumed at first, but then I realized this is a female American barn owl, not common in European trade as European barn owls are more accessible and commonly bred there. No, this is someone living in North America, with a friend who happens to be a licensed “falconer” and seems to be as such for a legal loophole to own owls.

So there’s good news and bad news.

The good news? This woman or her friend (?) actually know basic raptor care, and it seems the falconer does use red tails to actually hunt, so it’s possible she intends to use the owls as such, but it’s very unlikely as barn owls have not been successfully used in falconry thus far.

So what’s the catch?

Well, there’s this. As a refresher: do not try to pet owls in general but especially don’t rub the feathers nearest their beak or ears. The owl freezing and holding that pose after she stopped is not a sign of comfort, it’s a sign of being overwhelmed and waiting for the world to become less overstimulating. I also only saw one anklet in that video, which can cause leg and hip fractures if the owl is startled and tries to fly away. The bird needs one anklet on either leg to distribute the force of the leap evenly across both legs rather than focusing the brunt of it on one location.

Uncomfortable? Let’s say? I am hoping it’s just the unintended result of trying to look “desirable”in every photo and not actual zoophilia levels of scandal, but I think I’m don’t looking at Lauren and her “falconer” friend for the night and am not going to actually check at this time.

In short, owls aren’t pets, don’t pet them, and stop modeling around animals and using them as props when trying to go for a “sexy” look.

It may not be illegal but subjecting me to it should be.
