#CanadianBlackBear
So what do you do if you ever encounter the most common and widespread Canadian Black Bear?
Nothing. You just take pictures.

Name of animal: Regal Moth/Royal Walnut Moth!
(Citheronia regalis)
Conservation Status: G5
Location: eastern United States from New Jersey to Missouri and southward to eastern Texas and central Florida
Lifespan: Adult moths live for about 10 days!
Size: wingspan of 3.75–6.1 in (9.5–15.5 cm)
Fun Fact: this species has 2 common names! Regal Moth & Royal Walnut Moth! They also have no mouth (unfortunately) so they don’t live long, they use the energy they stored up as a caterpillar! Which is just enough to mate and lay eggs! :D

A Gopher has taken up residence in my flower patch. The wee critter has been feasting on the fat crunchy stalks and turning earth like crazy.
Apparently my Phacelia tanacetifolia was simply too lush and scrumptious to pass up. The little beast had to burrow under a compacted earthen dam and 2 retaining walls to get to it. Respect.
I know that the standard response to this sort of thing would be outrage; perhaps a desire to do bodily harm to the Gopher. “Oh no, my flowers!”
I do not do things this way.
This beast is now my Subject, under my protection and free to work my land and feast upon my plenty. They will perform deep fertilization of the earth, additionally improving porosity, aeration, and water retention. They will suffer no harm from me.
Gophers are valuable members of a natural community. Their warrens stretch for hundreds of meters, moving nutrients around and improving the quality of the topsoil. They spread seeds, turn compacted earth, and are positively adorable.
I can plant more flowers. Seeds are cheap. I appreciate the help, little friend.
(I played a lot of Viva Piñata as a kid so the idea of attracting wildlife to my garden has appealed to me since long before I had access to a garden or wildlife)

Name of animal: Marbled Polecat (Vormela peregusna)
Conservation Status: VU (Vulnerable)
Location: Marbled polecats are generally found in the drier areas and grasslands of southeastern Europe to western China ^^
Lifespan: captivity: 8.9 years (couldn’t find what their lifespan is in the wild)
Size: about 17 to 26 inches
Fun Fact: Vormela is from the German word Würmlein, which means "little worm". The specific name peregusna comes from perehuznya, which is Ukrainian for "polecat" so their scientific name means “little worm polecat” and I think that is so cute😭💖
(please correct me if I got any of this wrong^^)

i think this is something really important to know about me; i'm the kind of person that will find a spider in the bathtub and gently scoops the creature up in a glass to put it safely outside the danger of water (no need for violence). although I really don't like spiders in my bathtub, i'll put their life before my own needs. 💚

It is revolting that YouTube won’t do anything to put an end to animal abuse on their platform, and I am not standing for it anymore. It is unfortunately very easy to come across videos of baby monkeys being ABUSED. At the very very least, they could incorporate an algorithm to detect these videos before they’re published. These videos can be several years old, and YouTube does NOTHING about them. NOTHING. Reports don’t even work. This is a disgrace, and I encourage some sort of group action. Unfortunately, I am a small, 50 follower tumblr account who can’t do anything. If anyone with a bigger platform sees this post, big doubt, please, please do what you can to raise awareness. 🙏
At the very least, I am glad that for once, the BBC is doing something useful, but it’s not enough.

Pigs are playful and enjoy having fun. Make the switch away from pork and other animal products to plant based ones for a happier world.
