Mignonne is my first pet as an adult. She is my first pet since my dad neglected and abused my childhood dog. She's also the first little being that I've freely chosen to be responsible for as an adult.
That can be scary and triggering and tender and complicated. I'm trying to be gentle with us both.

cw: animal neglect, pet illness
it's easy to say "do your research before getting a pet" but like what does that mean in practice? and frankly it's not unreasonable that someone would go to a pet store that sells bearded dragons, and buy a kit that the staff claim contains everything you need for a bearded dragon, and take that at face value. "do your research" but if you can't trust people (pet store staff + the companies selling those kits) to give you even remotely solid information, what do you do? how is the average person supposed to know what sources to trust?
and then skip forward a few months and you call a vet clinic because your bearded dragon is lethargic and not eating and can't use its legs because these companies are allowed to sell you a "complete" kit that doesn't include uvb lighting for a desert reptile. and you had no idea! you trusted what you thought was a reliable source!
I don't have a conclusion for this it just breaks my heart as a vet receptionist every time I have to gently break the news to someone that their pet is sick because they were lied to about its basic needs

me waking up from a stress dream: OH GOD I HAVENT BEEN FEEDING MY CATS
me realizing: …be…cause I don’t have any cats.

I was buying a sandwich while I waited for the pharmacy to reopen after lunch and a slightly scruffy looking tuxedo cat came in. I asked the person at the deli if the cat belonged to the owner or had just wandered in, but they said that his owner had moved and left him behind and then the person who had been looking after him got a dog and he wouldn't go back there, so now he wanders around and they feed him, and some other stray cats, at the shop.
I was literally on the cusp of scooping him up and bringing him to a shelter myself, but apparently all the strays have been spayed and neutered and a local vet treats them for free if they get sick and, as mentioned, they are getting fed, so I thought maybe they would be offended at the shop if I tried to take him to a shelter, and I didn't quite have the stones for an argument. Fucking devastating stuff though 😭

How do you act like this under the video you made about your outdoor cat getting fleas. What on earth makes you think it's normal for a cat to go out and hunt whenever it feels like it. What

◇ The kink in Sissel's tail was due to a road accident when he was a stray kitten, long before he ever wandered into Temsik park. The fracture didn't risk his life in any way but it was the most painful thing he had experienced in his short life thus far.
With no human to ensure it healed properly when the bone mended it was crooked. Sissel doesn't mind it though, once he stopped hurting he paid it no heed.

Hate the stigma cats get in our community especially if they get fleas bc ofc they toss them outside 9/10 times. Like they don’t care if it’s dangerous to their health and hygiene.

happy birthday, reese <3
For @r33sespieces :)
---
“Shh, no, you have to be quiet.”
Sirius pauses outside Harry’s room, cocking his head. Harry’s been holed up in there since shortly after dinner, but Sirius hadn’t thought too much of it. It’s been pissing down all afternoon, and Sirius figured both of them could use a lazy day. For his part, he took a luxurious nap earlier, and the newest book in a romance series he’s been following arrived by owl post this morning. He’s looking forward to curling up with it in front of the fire. If he’s lucky, maybe Harry will come downstairs with his chess set later and ask to play a game together.
There’s a whine from behind the closed door, and then a soft yip. Sirius blinks.
“Hazza,” he says, rapping his knuckles softly on the door, and he hears Harry curse. “Everything alright?”
“Fine!” Harry says quickly. “I’m just--”
He’s interrupted by a loud bark, and Sirius’s eyebrows fly up to his hairline.
“Can I come in?” he asks, and he hears Harry sigh.
“Yeah.”
Harry’s standing over by the bed, dripping wet and clutching a soaked brown-and-white puppy against his chest.
“Well, hello,” Sirius says as he steps into the room. “Who’s this?”
“Dunno,” Harry says, cuddling the puppy close and shrinking away when Sirius takes a step forward. Sirius freezes. “Found him out in the garden.”
“Poor thing,” Sirius says. It’s been miserable outside for two days now. “Can I take a look at him?”
“Why?” Harry asks, instantly suspicious.
“I just want to make sure he’s okay, that he doesn’t have any injuries or anything like that.” Sirius starts to pull out his wand, but Harry backs away, so he quickly pockets it. “Can we sit down?”
They sit on the circular rug in the middle of Harry’s bedroom, and Harry gently places the puppy in front of him. The puppy shivers, and then takes a few uncertain steps. He’s wobbly, but that seems to be due to how young he is, not any injuries. Sirius puts out his hand, and the puppy sniffs him. His tail wags.
“Aren’t you mad?” Harry asks softly, not meeting Sirius’s eyes.
“I’m not thrilled you snuck a puppy in here without talking to me first,” Sirius says. “But no, Harry, I’m not mad. If you’d told me you’d found him in the garden, I would’ve had you bring him inside, too. We can keep him warm and dry for a night, and then tomorrow we’ll take him to a shelter. Speaking of, can I dry him off? He’s shivering. You as well, kiddo.”
After a moment’s hesitation, Harry nods, and Sirius pulls out his wand. He performs a quick drying spell, and then a cleaning charm, and then casts a heating spell over both Harry and the puppy.
“I bet he’s hungry,” Sirius says. “Why don’t you bring him down to the kitchen, and we can feed him?”
Harry hesitates again, then gathers the puppy in his arms and goes down to the kitchen, Sirius following them. He doesn’t know what exactly is causing Harry’s reluctance, but he has a suspicion.
He cuts up some leftover chicken for Harry to feed the puppy, and then goes into Remus’s office to gather up the rope toys Moony likes to use, as well as the crate he sometimes curls up in to nap off the Wolfsbane during full moons. Harry eyes the crate warily when Sirius comes back into the kitchen.
“So he’ll have somewhere warm and safe to sleep tonight,” Sirius says. “I doubt he’s house-trained, and sorry mate, but I don’t fancy him pissing all over the house all night.”
Harry reluctantly nods. “Yeah, okay.”
The puppy eats and drinks his fill, and then Harry entices him to play with one of the rope toys. Sirius can’t help the smile that touches his lips as he watches them, the puppy having the time of his life and Harry giggling--giggling!--while they play.
The puppy eventually tires himself out and falls asleep curled up in Harry’s lap.
“There was a dog in the Dursleys’ garden once.” Harry’s not looking at him. He strokes one of the puppy’s ears with a gentle finger. “She was a stray. I brought her scraps from the table whenever Aunt Petunia sent me outside to do chores.”
Scraps that Harry had probably needed for himself, but he’d split them with a stray instead. His heart ached. “That was really kind of you, Hazza.”
“She was my first friend,” Harry says softly. “My only friend. She lived in the garden for most of the summer, until Dudley found out about her.”
“Oh, Harry.”
“He and his friends chased her off. Hit her with sticks and threw rocks at her. I never saw her again.”
“She probably found a home,” Sirius says. “She sounds friendly. I’m sure someone took her in.”
“Yeah,” Harry says. “I hope so.”
Sirius hears the Floo roar, and then Remus calls out a hello.
“In here, Remus,” he says.
Remus comes into the kitchen, and his eyes widen. “Well, you two were certainly busy today.”
“Harry found him in the garden,” Sirius says. “The weather’s shite. I don’t see a problem with letting him stay tonight, and then we’ll take him to a shelter tomorrow.”
“Sure, of course we will,” Remus says, sounding amused.
The puppy wakes himself up with a yawn, and then eyes Remus curiously. He gets out of Harry’s lap and trots over to the other man, sniffing him curiously. Remus holds very still--animals tend to have very strong reactions to him. Either they adore him, or they’re terrified of him.
The puppy is apparently in the former category, because his tail starts to wag and he lets out a series of happy yips. Remus crouches down to pet him.
“You’re a handsome fellow, aren’t you,” he says. “Yes, you are. And much better behaved than Padfoot.”
“You hear how he talks to me, Harry?”
Harry laughs, and Sirius wishes he could bottle the sound. It doesn’t happen enough.
Harry and the puppy are inseparable for the rest of the evening. Remus keeps throwing Sirius significant looks that he tries to ignore. They’re not getting a pet. Hedwig is enough. In the morning, they’ll take the puppy to the nearest shelter, and Sirius will personally make sure he goes to a good home.
When it comes time for bed, Harry lines the crate with plenty of blankets and sets the puppy inside. He closes the door and locks it, and the puppy immediately begins to whimper.
Harry chews on his bottom lip. “You’re sure he’s going to be alright in there?”
The puppy whines, and Harry looks distraught. Remus squeezes his shoulder.
“He’ll be fine. He’s got toys and water and soft blankets. He’ll probably make a mess, but that’s alright. That’s what magic is for. He’ll settle down as soon as we all leave him be.”
***
The puppy cries for an hour after they all retire upstairs.
Sirius stares at the ceiling. He’s not going to give in and check on the puppy. He’s not.
“Don’t even think it, Sirius,” Remus murmurs from his side of the bed.
“I’m not,” Sirius says. “It’s just--do you think he’s cold?”
“We gave him blankets and cast a heating charm.”
“Maybe he’s hurt.”
“You checked him over before bed. He’s perfectly fine.” Remus rolls over and rests his head on Sirius’s chest. “He’ll settle down eventually.”
Remus is right--the puppy does eventually quiet down. Remus’s breathing evens out soon after that, and Sirius quickly follows him into sleep.
Sirius wakes up before dawn, his new normal, and pads downstairs to make some tea. Harry will sleep for at least another couple of hours, and they won’t see Remus until almost noon.
But when he comes into the kitchen, the first thing he notices is his godson curled up on the floor. The crate is open, and the puppy is nestled in Harry’s arms, also fast asleep.
“Sirius?” Remus comes up behind him, knuckling his eyes.
“What are you doing up?” Sirius whispers.
“Needed a piss, and the bed’s cold without you. What--” Remus finally catches sight of Harry and the puppy, and immediately softens. “Oh.”
“That’s why the puppy stopped whining last night, I bet.”
“Probably,” Remus says. He wraps his arms around Sirius’s waist and props his chin on Sirius’s shoulder, though he has to stretch to reach it. “You can’t make him go to a shelter.”
“No,” Sirius sighs. “I won’t. Looks like we’ve got a pet, Moons.”
“Looks like it. Where are you going?”
“I’ve got to write to the Board of Governors,” Sirius says. “I have six weeks to persuade them to add dogs to the list of approved pets for Hogwarts students.”

Round 3: Maria Ushiromiya (Umineko: When They Cry) vs. Amane Momose (MILGRAM)
Tumblr media
Propaganda below the cut
Maria Ushiromiya (9)
She's really obsessed with occult and witch stuff and acts inappropriately when her family gets murdered because she was told by the culprit that everyone was going to the Golden Land (a super special witch afterlife where you get whatever you want). She also has meltdowns like any autistic child. Because of this, some Umineko fans say that she deserves to get abused by her mother.
----
People really do be saying that this literal nine year old who's been abused and neglected by her mom for her whole life is evil
----
Some people in the Umineko fandom have decided that she's annoying because she's a 9 year old with autism. Personally I think she's based. She has a hard life but still tries her hardest to see the goodness in everything. She's kind, even feeling sorry for a wilting flower and hoping it'll get better. She's a very smart young girl who just isn't given the proper love a child needs from their parents to thrive. She deserved SO, SO much better than the cards life dealt her. I mustn't talk too much else I'll get emotional but Maria is peak.Best autistic witch girl.
Amane Momose (12):
Amane was voted guilty in the first trial so that she would acknowledge her guilt. It backfired, and now she’s considered a threat. Well, everyone is a threat, but nobody’s threat level has been as heavily discussed and debated as hers. Consider the next prisoner in line, Mikoto. He’s objectively more dangerous and cannot be restrained. He beat up the guard in trial 1, and he was able to hold his own when the other guilty prisoners were attacked. But a good incentive to forgive him is so that he will calm down. You know what? That’s a good incentive to forgive Amane too! But she *can* be restrained, so a good portion of the discussion went into how she should be voted guilty so she *will* be restrained and not a threat. Since her vote was a near 50/50, of course a good chunk of the voters expressed dissatisfaction with her forgiven verdict. Some are already planning to vote her guilty for trial 3, calling her a “lost cause”. She hasn’t even done any concrete harm yet. Hold the pitchforks until she actually causes harm, please? And what if she *was* voted guilty in trial 2? We’ve been warned that she will continue to deny our judgement. A second guilty verdict won’t make her better either, and then what? She’d be called a “lost cause” as well. There is no winning with her.
----
Where do I even start? So first of all she’s an cult child who was physically and mentally abused and tortured by her parents and then (presumably) murdered her mother after her mother killed a cat that she took care of.
Now everyone in Milgram is a murderer but when Amane came and her MV showed her murder and circumstance in an admittedly highly fictionalized depiction of it the audience decided to…repeat the cycle of abuse!
She was voted guilty for the main reason of “teaching her” and helping her “realize that she was abused.” I would like to note that this tough love approach is something her parents utilized against her. “We are only doing this to help you.”
So the audience replicates Amane’s abusers and repeats the cycle of abuse and that’s pretty shitty but it isn’t exactly “Fuck Em Kids” level.
And then Trial 2 happened. Cause Amane is bitter and angry and horrifically traumatized so she acts aggressive and hostile. Especially towards another prisoner.
Now, again, everyone here is a fucking murderer (of atleast could be constructed as one) These people being able to Harm is a core concept of this series.
Yet for some reason it feels like people treat Amane as a “delusional creepy kid who wants to kill people” which completly takes away the nuance of her character. She does have the capacity to harm! Everyone here does! She’s not Uniquly Dangerous! She just has a Reason to be Dangerous. A Reason we GAVE HER by REPEATING THE CYCLE OF ABUSE.
In short: In a series full of Murderers I’m honestly a bit pissed that the 12 year old abuse victim is the one who’s treated like the guy from American Pyscho.
----
TL;DR: "We metavoted this abused, indoctrinated child guilty in trial 1, but it didn't work. Now she is a threat to three grown adults: one who is fully free and two whom she has been shown to get along with. Please metavote her guilty again so she will be restrained and unable to attack them, even though that means subjecting her to further psychological torture." Amane Momose is the youngest of ten murderers, prisoners of Milgram who are to be judged innocent (forgiven) or guilty (unforgiven). In the first interrogation (voice drama), she said that what she did was in line with her religion's doctrines. If we judged her the "wrong way", she said she will just deny the verdict. Combining the voice drama and music video, you could piece together that she was raised in a cult and abused, even though she is cheerful and downplays her pain. She never shows *who* she killed, only *why* she did. After the first day of her vote, she was 81% innocent, but this wouldn't last the whole three months. Many people voted her guilty so she would "see her sins", part of the practice commonly known as "metavoting". Her innocent percentage rapidly decreased, and she hit guilty in the last 15 days, finishing at 51% guilty. At the end of the first trial, Jackalope (who is something like a host) went over all the prisoners' verdicts and commented on the general reasoning. When he got to Amane, he *laughed* at the audience for voting that way to make her realize her sins. Trial 2 rolled around, and it was revealed that Amane's victim was her abuser. On day one, she was at 74% innocent. Seems like a cut-and-dry case now, right? Well... in the intermission, two of the prisoners (Fuuta and Mahiru) were badly beaten up and became reliant on the care of Shidou, a doctor. Amane became hostile to Shidou because what he was doing was against her beliefs. She visited all three of them on their birthdays to convince them to change their ways. She seems to be especially close to Fuuta, who is now murmuring about salvation. Guilty prisoners are psychologically tortured, forced to listen to voices that reject their beliefs. Fuuta and Mahiru both say that the mental strain is worse than their physical injuries. But Amane, who also looks worse for wear, was thrown under the bus because she isn't injured and is considered a physical threat to them (never mind that she gets along with them). She's considered a threat to Shidou, a grown man who is twice her size and fully free, while she is partially restricted by the long sleeves in her trial 2 uniform. She might indoctrinate Fuuta even though, in a prison of ten people and one guard, she's the only voice of her cult. Fortunately, she got a break. Her vote was falling at a similar rate to the first trial. But this time, it stabilized at 51% innocent, 12 days before the end of her vote. But there's no way this is over.

Why are outdoor cat people so weird?
Saw a post on a local lost/found cat page that someone found a cat with a severely infected mouth abscess. They took it to the vet and it had a microchip but the info wasn't up to date. The person who found the cat paid out of their own pocket to get the cat some treatment as it was in a lot of pain and unable to eat properly. Somehow all the outdoor cat owners in the comments were mad at this person for 'stealing' someone's cat and getting it veterinary treatment without the owner's consent. Hello?????

The vet called me with updates on the Boys. Unfortunately I'm a little emotional right now but she said that it does look like they have a serious skin infection and various small wounds. She is hoping that with antibiotics their inflammation and swelling in their legs goes down. She said that they possibly have impacted feather follicles which is why there is so many feathers missing (also likely from plucking from discomfort). The scales on the legs is likely from poor nutrition she said they may never return to normal but I'm hoping henhouse reserve gets them looking nice again. What made me cry when I got off the phone is she said they have bruising on their body that likely wasn't caused by rooster fighting 😞 she wants to see them again after they're done with their antibiotics.
Edit- and yeah she thinks Pinkys comb looks very strange for frostbite so it isn't unlikely that he had parts of his comb removed somehow. She said the scar on it was strange.

First off: I'm so sorry on the length, but I am incapable of doing anything half-assed, and that apparently includes this.
Second off: big-ass animal abuse warning, animal negligence warning, gore warning, pet hoarding warning.. there’s a lot going on, so if animals in distress bothers you, be careful reading this. If graphic pictures of animals hurt bothers you, then be leery of clicking links in the doc itself - I have tried to put warnings on every instance of gore, but Dani takes a lot of pictures of her animals when they are sick, injured, or she’s autopsying them.
With that said:
This is a 107 page document on why, going through the Ramsey Lofts' history, I don't think they should be running a loft, or even owning birds. They have a history of behaviour, since 2015, that has repeatedly led to massive deaths within their birds, and they have had poor husbandry for their birds for almost the entire time they have been posting on tumblr. It has never really changed, despite their reoccurring cycle where their number of birds swell, overwhelms them, and results in disaster. This cycle has been going on since 2017, at the very least.
There is a Table of Contents to the doc for easy reading, but I don't expect people to read this entire document! It's mostly for my peace of mind, and so that I can just give this to people, when they drag this shit to my doorstep once more. If data is more your thing, a friend made a spreadsheet listing the majority of the lofts’ birds, with parentage, injuries, and deaths for peoples’ references. CW for a lot of injury and death.
I know some people feel the Ramsey Loft has taken a great deal of backlash at this point, and this may seem unnecessary. But Dani is not new to pigeons. She has been actively working with pigeons since at least 2015, and she has been breeding doves since 2011. It isn't that she doesn't know how to care properly for her birds: it is that she is choosing not to. I have gotten a number of people asking me what of her practices I find distasteful. The answer is all of them, and this google docs is my solution to not having to keep explaining it.
Like I said, I don’t expect people to necessarily read this, or even read all of it. So here is a cliffnotes of just some of the reasons I do not think she should have pigeons.
First off: her coop is entirely too small, and inadequately made, for the amount of birds that she has. I wrote an extensive post about that, so that’ll stay covered there, mostly, with the unhappy edition of:
Tumblr media
That’s poor hygiene at best, but it’s not unexpected: below, you’ll see she has pest issues within her coop, but she also chooses to autopsy her birds inside of her house. (HUGE CONTENT WARNING ON THIS LINK FOR PICTURES OF AN AUTOPSY, BLOW BY BLOW) She does not wear gloves doing this, and another autopsy featured her dissecting a bird full of worms.
Dani is careless with her animal’s safety, when it comes to other animals. Dani has allowed her pigeons to interact with rats, resulting in a bird losing a nail to the rats trying to eat him alive, and she has allowed her pigeons to interact with doves, leading to a squab getting disembowled. (This picture is text, with no picture, because she posted a picture of the squab’s guts literally hanging out of it: actual link is in the doc. Similarly: all text, no pic on the following.) One of her pigeons disemboweled and ate two of her squabs alive - and if you note the dates, she says in this screenshot she still has the rats, a month after they attacked a bird.
But in pretty much all instances, she is negligent towards her birds safety when it comes to their environment and herself as well. She has knelt on one of her squabs, crushing his skull. She sat on another squab, breaking his leg. She allowed a layman (not a veterinarian) to liveblog a surgery on an unaesthesized bird, including pictures, in her server, and refused to take it down. (HUGE CONTENT WARNING OF GORE / EVERYTHING ON THAT LINK.) On her aviary's porch, she has her feedbags positioned so that three separate birds have gotten trapped in them. The first, Nobu, was found. The second, Riddle, was found. The third time was not the charm: Jojo went missing for three fucking months, and it would turn out that he had gotten trapped behind the feedbags, died, and was rotting, covered in maggots, by the time she found him. This was not the only instance of maggots in her coop: when a bag of food ripped outside of the loft, she left it on the ground to the point that it sprouted, rotted, and became a festering mass of maggots right next to her birds.
Maggots are not the only pests that she has had a reoccuring issue with. Her coop has roaches, moths that infest her pigeon feed, and grain weevils. This might be less noteworthy, if the pigeons didn’t eat off of the floor of her coop, rather than the more traditional fucking feeders or bowls. (Noteworthy here is that she admits her birds have on occasion scavenged from the sand that they shit in, which is A+ on spreading disease in your coop.)  Roaches can carry salmonella, and grain beetles can carry tapeworms, both reoccuring issues that her birds face, but she does not put down pesticides, increase her cleaning, or even just put down diatomaceous earth - she says she crushes the roaches instead when she sees them, even though one climbs out of her nest box in that video.
In the past, Dani has owned and bred other species of animals. With the doves, the last species she owned, she had three separate salmonella outbreaks in the course of a year, resulting in every single dove dying except for one.  Her pigeon coop has faced at least two separate incidents of ammonia poisoning, and many more incidences of more minor diseases. Right now, she’s dealing with asper in her flock. One would think this would increase her focus on hygiene in her coop, but Dani is having to deworm her (non-free flying, stay in the coop or in controlled areas) birds every other month, because one literally died of how many worms were infesting its organs, and that is more than I’ve heard even keepers in tropical regions who free-fly their pigeons having to deworm.
Again, if any of this makes you want more context or sourced links, the document has a table of contents for easy reference. The document has everything mentioned above, and unfortunately, way more.
Tumblr media
There is basically no way in hell I can copy this shit over to tumblr, but even if you don’t read it, hopefully the bullet point list above will help make it clear. I am absolutely certain there is other shit buried in this rat hole that I am simply not aware of - if people want to tack it onto this post, that’s fine and go ahead, but I just went with what I knew and could supply direct sources for. Almost every behaviour criticised in this document is sourced. Don’t trust my word on this being a horrorshow - you can go and see for it for yourself.
