I'm sure this has probably already been posted, but I'm not checking, because I haven't started watching Ripley yet and I have no wish to see it all in gif form before I do.

Letterkenny – An Exploration of a Uniquely Canadian Romp
TL;DR – This is a delightful insight into a part of Canadian life. Disclosure – I watched these episodes on SBS. Letterkenny Review – As Christmas Day approaches (or if you are outside of Canada, you will get it on Boxing Day), it means that a Canadian institution is drawing to a close. It’s a show I discovered once by seeing a GIF on Imgur about kids falling off bikes, which is an odd entry…

Moon and apple!
@italiangothicwriteblr
Send me an October-themed ask.
🌙 moon: do any of your OCs have dark backstories or secrets they’re trying to keep?
Let's say Moren in RWR isn't exactly forthcoming. During the course of the book, he hides not one, not two, but three vital pieces of information from Sheryl. They occur at different points and one is more justifiable than the others, but still. When Sheryl finds out, she's pissed.
🍎 apple: let’s talk about friendship in your wip. do you have any favorite friend/platonic dynamics? any friendships gone sour?
My favorite platonic relationship has to be Evelyn and Andrew's friendship. I wrote them specifically because I couldn't find a m/f friendship where the characters were allowed to be very physically affectionate, but still platonic. There's also a certain relationship in my fairytale retelling, but I'll save that for when I actually introduce that WIP.
As for friendships gone sour, they don't tend to last for long in my writing. I always have the characters go back to being friends.
Thanks for the ask, Joy!

Deathprod — Compositions (Smalltown Supersound)
Tumblr media
Compositions by Deathprod
From the first note of Compositions, Helge Stern AKA Deathprod immerses the listener into a granular focus on pitch and tonal depth. Crushingly slow, heavy and intense, the Norwegian producer manages to create a sense of enormity from 17 short, minimalist pieces in which he stresses his equipment to express the tensile strength of his music. Working with his trademark mix of obsolete electronic and handmade analog gear in his Audio Virus Lab studio in Oslo, Stern manages to conjure movement from stasis by focusing on the tactility of sound. Whether the bottom end of a string quartet playing out the last days or the murmuring of Atlas straining beneath his burden, there an almost heroic splendor in the delicacy of Stern’s discipline.
“Composition 1” opens with the doomsday basses; long notes echo and rumble as if their very frequency might forestall fate, if even for a moment. Intimate and tactile, it provides an entry point for what follows. Sequenced and numbered chronologically as composed, the subsequent pieces extend Stern’s juxtaposition of bespoke tunings, machine tones and formal arrangement. As one listens, the ear becomes attuned to the slightest variation in sound, grains of sand in a shell, muscles racked by weight. Musically you are reminded of a church organ at its most abstract and, indeed, when compositions “8” and “9” arrive, there is a flash of recognition in the hymnal quality of the tracks, the former in the lower register, the bass notes fluttering delicately and the latter adding minor distortions to the upper notes. Thereafter, Stern builds on the emotional heft foreshadowed in the album’s opening. The decomposing delay and reverb on “11”, “12” and “13” evoke a suffocating desolation in which the organization of sound signifies defiant hope. Between each piece the quiet hum and crackle of idle machines recharging for the next surge. It ends on an elegiac note on “17” with the barest hint of a piano motif beneath oscillating sinewaves.
Deathprod’s ability to conjure soul from his machines is key to the power of his music. If his last album 2019’s Occulting Disk seemed designed to alienate, Compositions for all its formality and repetition has a far more human aspect. Lugubrious yes, sometimes harsh but its granular beauty has a mesmeric effect that lingers.

Depeche Mode: “Policy Of Truth” limited edition disc single (1991)
What was my first-ever Depeche Mode experience? “Policy Of Truth”, but not in a way you expect. Paul Reubens was arrested in Sarasota for pulling on himself in an adult movie theater. Though lots of co-stars and celebrities went up to bat to defend him, some decided to take the ball and run with it all the way home. That’s where Howard Stern came into play. Always the one to ridicule celebrities and other people to his benefit, decided to parody Pee-Wee Herman’s Playhouse on his politically-incorrect but bonkers TV show. He’s brought in many weird types on his late-night Saturday hour and this episode was no different.
So he’s dressed up as Pee-Wee in the worst possible job ever and, like Reuben’s character, brought in special guests. However, those guests where fetishists - S&M couples, adult infants, and other deviants. One of them he had on his show was this ginger mistress who brought her slave over (who looked like Gomez Addams). She had him lie on the floor and stepped all over his face with her high heels as “Policy Of Truth” played in the background. Robin Quivers was laughing her fat ass off (as usual) and both her and Stern found it exciting. It was one of the tamer scenes of that episode and one which wasn’t horribly censored to the point of being un-viewable.
It’s a scene that’s never left my mind, is in my personal VHS archive, and even on YouTube if you search hard enough. Fortunately, there was plenty of more Depeche Mode on the way. My city station constantly played “Enjoy The Silence” and “Personal Jesus” since that moment up until Songs Of Faith And Devotion was released. I really don’t need to tell you how that album blew me away; an album which made me one of only two people in my high-school who was into them.

Vamos a desarrollarla. Durante muchísimo tiempo se…

Letterkenny: Season 12 – TV review
TL;DR – Like all endings, it is bittersweet, with moments of longing, frustration, and sadness, all there with the joy of seeing people being able to stick the landing. ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Rating: 4 out of 5. Hey! For Tiny Scene Sunday—Evelyn + Fire
Thanks so much for sending the prompt! I don't know if I did this right, but I hope you like it!
This is a bit set at the start of BBtS book 3, so that's why it's quite vague. No idea if it'll stay the same once I actually get there, but it was fun to write.
CW: angst, brief moment of implied social anxiety-caused intrusive thoughts
“So,” – Jeremy crossed his arms – “what do we do now?”
Evelyn could do nothing but blink at him, her mind empty. In front of her, her friends all wore similar weary, hollow-eyed expressions. Andrew swept a hand through his untamed coils, shoulders slouched and back against the wall as if he couldn’t stand by himself. Nathan sat on one of the table’s chairs and massaged his paralyzed leg in drawn-out motions. Jeremy stood in the middle of the hallway, their powerful stance no less intimidating than ever, but a shadow in their eyes exposed their real exhaustion. For her part, Evelyn refused to pay attention to her reflection in the wall mirror, certain she would see dark circles around her eyes and a dead light in her pupils.
Everyone seemed about to collapse to the floor. Except Lily.
Her porcelain face sported a sick undertone and her usually vibrant red hair fell over her temples in a ruffled mess, but a spark burned in her eyes. She looked ready to fight the whole Elemental army.
Evelyn wished she had the same fire. The others were counting on her, not Lily. She was supposed to be the leader, the determined one.
But she just wanted to curl up in bed and wake up realizing it had all been a nightmare. That they had not lost their home, their lives, their freedom in one cursed day. That they were not being hunted. That they had some hope of success.
That it wasn’t her fault.
When she didn’t answer, Jeremy kept going, “They’ll be searching for us right now, and they probably know we know, considering we told the detectives.”
“Roosvelt and Kasilag won’t betray us,” Evelyn protested weakly, even though she was not so sure.
“Not the point. We need a strategy.”
A knot built in her throat. Jeremy wasn’t trying to be mean, she repeated herself, he was her friend. Still, the urge to cry mounted in her chest like a tidal wave.
On instinct, her glance shot toward Andrew. Her pillar, who could give her strenght with a single smile.
He rubbed his face, not meeting her eyes.
A fist seized Evelyn’s chest. If Andrew was mad at her, if he didn’t help her now, if she was alone—
He straightened and painted a conciliatory smile on his lips. “Let’s sleep on it, ok? We’ll think about a plan tomorrow, when we’re rested.”
Nathan nodded, followed by Lily, then Jeremy. Relief warmed Evelyn’s heart, and she mustered a thankful grimace in Andrew’s direction.
His answering smile didn’t reach his eyes.
