Katharine Hepburn (Bringing Up Baby, The Philadelphia Story, The African Queen)—This woman. I have been obsessed with her for years. I know the urban legend is a popular one at this point of her walking around set in her underwear when her pants were stolen and she was left with only a skirt, but the pants thing is honestly enough for her to be the hottest in the room in my book. She refused to wear anything else at a time when the public in general and especially the studios did not like that. She was independent, stubborn, and so so very capable. Competency kink anyone? Also, if you want one final way that Katharine's entire life was saying "fuck you" to the establishment, it started young! Her mother took her to suffrage events, and she never got rid of that attitude of justice. I feel like I have barely scratched the surface of all the ways she was such a badass that I'm turning into a rambling mess instead.

Jessie Matthews (Evergreen, First a Girl, It's Love Again, Gangway)—known as “the dancing divinity”, jessie matthews was a british musical star of stage and screen in the 20s and 30s - if you're an enjoyer of lavish art deco musicals of the likes of fred and ginger, busby berkeley etc, definitely give her movies a try they are delightful! (tantalizingly there were multiple attempts made to pair her and fred together that never came to fruition - gaumont-british tried to get fred for evergreen and mgm wanted jessie for a damsel in distress.) and for the women in tuxedos enjoyers, her 1935 movie first a girl was the first english language remake of viktor und viktoria, famously later remade with julie andrews.

The single word I would use to explain Katherine Hepburn's appeal is *range*. In her acting career, that meant covering all the ground between lush period dramas and the comedies she did with Carey Grant and Spencer Tracey. In terms of hotness, it meant an uncanny ability to bring anything from a Dietrich-esque androgyny to some of the best Classic Hollywood Glamour you will ever see.

She simply stuns onscreen; you cannot do anything but be captivated by her presence. Also a non-gender-conforming icon and mild tumblr celebrity by virtue of that one picture from The Warrior's Husband (stage play).

Katharine Hepburn was out here casually changing the lives of young butch lesbians with her gender swag! She wore pants even when people said she shouldn’t, she refused to marry or have kids, and she wore menswear in at LEAST one movie!

If I start thinking about her face for too long I will cry she is so so hot. Katherine is so charismatic and charming in everything she appears in - watch her adopt a leopard and fall in love with her. Also she has the biggest dick energy ever (she and her pal Lauren Bacall share that accolade). Also had an incredibly long and varied career from screw ball comedies to serious dramas - she’s a queen of the screen and I adore her.

Someone's got to mention it, but she's won the most Oscars out of any performer and is largely considered one of the greatest actresses ever. She's got an incredible voice, an incredible presence, and she absolutely steals every scene she's in. She was private person and deemed standoffish and unapproachable, but she was also profoundly concerned for people's rights and was an outspoken supporter of abortion access. Finally, the Katharine Hepburn slacks look is just iconic. I mean look at her.

Jessie Matthews:

Star of British 1930s stage and screen, she introduced classic songs by Noel Coward and Rogers and Hart to English audiences, and then played perky heroines, but today it’s her genderswapping role in First A Girl that probably gets most attention.

Habitat- Central America

Size (Weight/Length)- 40 cm; 25 cm tail

Diet- Insects; Fruit; Small reptiles

Cool Facts- Playing a massive part in the history of Mexico and Central America, the resplendent quetzal is iconic for their dual, iridescent tail feathers. These birds are extremely shy and use their plumage to blend in with trees. Resplendent quetzals are extremely important due to their love of fruit. These birds spread the seeds of 43 species of plant and play a large part in the cultivation of wild avocados. Quetzals are monogamous and share a large territory. Both parents take on parental duties for their chicks ranging from incubation to feeding to protecting their home. Resplendent quetzals are threatened by deforestation and habitat fragmentation, making it harder to find mates and suitable territory for raising a family.

Mary Colette Fontaine (Andrew Marston's Lover & Darling)

Originally raised in New York and Born in Liverpool, Mary is the only daughter of two iconic fashion moguls. She doesn't want to be in the spotlight and wants to live her life as a normal person. Originally Mary's plan for college is to attend New York University along with her friends but she got rejected, Mary did not lose hope since she has a second plan on studying abroad in London, England, her friends were hesitant at first but decided to support their friend. Before leaving, her friends give Mary a collection of butterfly pins to remember them, Mary promises to keep in touch and send gifts. In London there she gets to meet her future lover, her literature professor, Andrew Marston. Mary has long blonde hair and sparkly green eyes. Her outfit aesthetic is Light Academia and Cottagecore.

Bernadette Tucker (Isaac Rhoades' Lover & Pickle)

Born in California, Bernadette is a quiet and shy girl. She has a small group of friends. When she was a young girl she met a young Mary during a party, they talked a lot in the party but when the party is over Bernadette started to have feelings for Mary but Mary left early. Bernadette was not mad at Mary at all, hoping to reunite with Mary in the future. Years later, her life changes when a kind gentleman helps her she becomes a housekeeper, she starts to have feelings for her boss. Bernadette has beautiful red hair and hazel eyes.

Catrina Alice Covey (Kayson's Lover & Prefect)

Born in Colorado and moved to England when she was thirteen, Catrina is known for her love of the 80s. The music, games, films and well everything in general. She also prefers studying the old-fashioned way. She has a crush on Kayson and feels flustered when he's around. Catrina would always make a playlist on cassette tapes and would write and doodle the title of her playlists when she is in love, for her study time and depending on her emotions. She loves watching John Hughes films in her spare time such as Sixteen Candles, Ferris Bueller and The Breakfast Club to name a few, she does try to watch new films too but films from the 80s have a place in her heart. She sometimes writes letters to Kayson but she doesn't send them, she tells her feelings for him and times they have encountered. Catrina has dark brown hair and blue eyes.

Spencer Ferguson (Luca's Lover & Babe)

Born and raised in Bristol, Spencer has a passion for art such as music and drawing, he does play video games too. He meets his future lover and fiance and now husband, Luca at a party. Spencer is happy to spend his life with Luca. Sometimes he could be a bit jealous and sometimes tries not to be. Spencer is extroverted and loves hanging out with the people he loves, his parents are caring towards him and is happy for him. During his free time he likes to listen to music while he studies. One of his friends is Catrina she would make a playlist for him and Luca. He gets along with Andrew and Mary as well. Spencer loves giving treats to Mocha, he often makes sure that Luca is safe and well. Spencer has brown hair and black eyes.

It's very interesting to notice how Disney's Beauty and the Beast draws inspiration not just from other versions of the fairy tale or from Disney's earlier fairy tale features, but from other love stories in classic Hollywood films and literature that were created for adults.

@starberry-cupcake's post on the ways that Disney's BatB changes the tale's core narrative parallel from the Cupid and Psyche myth to Pride and Prejudice is genius. It's slightly astounding that no one on the creative team has ever cited Pride and Prejudice as an influence: but maybe Austen's novel has become enough of a modern myth and influenced so many other love stories and comedies of manners that Disney's creative team really did write the parallels unconsciously. Of course the similarities can be overstated; Belle and the Beast are less mutually flawed than Elizabeth and Darcy, for one thing, and the Beast changes more while Belle changes less than their Austen counterparts do. (I might argue that Belle and the Beast more closely resemble pop culture's simplified ideas of Elizabeth and Darcy than they do Austen's actual characters.) But in terms of plot structure, the parallels are spot-on.

Even if the Austen parallels were accidental, though, the movie's creative team has freely admitted to other inspirations. Screenwriter Linda Woolverton has stated that there's a lot of Katharine Hepburn in Belle. That her characterization in general was strongly influenced by Hepburn's portrayal of Jo in the 1933 film version of Little Women (albeit with her tomboyishness toned down), and that her snappy arguments with the Beast in the dinner-invitation and wound-tending scenes were inspired by Hepburn and Spencer Tracy's similar bickering in their romantic comedies. The animators have also admitted to modeling Belle's appearance after such iconic Hollywood beauties as Elizabeth Taylor, Audrey Hepburn, and Natalie Wood. Photos of those three ladies were kept in the studio for the artists to literally draw inspiration from.

Then there are the other obvious parallels with other movies, which I seem to remember the trivia page of IMDB.com pointing out. For example, there are some obvious parallels with The Wizard of Oz. Belle's iconic blue and white peasant dress looks similar to Dorothy's iconic blue and white gingham dress, and like Dorothy, she's a dreamer trapped in a mundane workaday world, who longs to escape and have new experiences. The Beast's brief "stupid" hairdo during his makeover scene, with its curls and ribbons, also looks like the Cowardly Lion's mane after his makeover, while Lumiere, Cogsworth, and Mrs. Potts can respectively be viewed as counterparts to the Scarecrow, Tin Man, and Cowardly Lion themselves. A likable, helpful trio of sidekicks, with Lumiere as the unofficial leader who has all the bright ideas (no pun intended), Mrs. Potts as the kindest and gentlest one despite being made of a hard, cold substance, and Cogsworth as the comically nervous one who nonetheless proves to be braver than he seems. Meanwhile, a shout-out to another classic movie occurs when Belle stands on the grassy hill and sings "I want adventure in the great wide somewhere": an obvious homage to Julie Andrews' Maria at the beginning of The Sound of Music. Appropriately, we could argue that the plot structure of Disney's BatB mirrors The Sound of Music just as much as it does Pride and Prejudice. A free-spirited heroine doesn't fit in with her community; then she unexpectedly goes to live in a new household run by an unhappy, aloof master; at first she clashes with him, but soon she brings warmth and joy back into his life and softens his heart; their growing love for each other culminates in a romantic dance scene, after which she briefly leaves him and runs back to her old home (although for different reasons); but ultimately she goes back to him and they end up together. Fortunately, there are no Nazis in Beauty and the Beast to darken Belle and the Prince's newlywed life.

IMDB.com also notes some parallels with the 1958 Leslie Caron movie Gigi. The young male lead played by Louis Jourdan in that film is named Gaston. Like Disney's Gaston he's a playboy with a cocky attitude, and Gigi refuses to be his mistress just like Belle refuses to be her Gaston's wife. The characters go in completely different directions, though, since Gigi's Gaston redeems himself and gets the girl in the end, while the Beauty and the Beast Gaston... not so much. Lumiere's characterization is also clearly based on Maurice Chevalier, who plays a major role (and sings his most famous song, "Thank Heaven for Little Girls") in Gigi too.

Then there's the Beast's "death" in Belle's arms, which seems to draw strong inspiration from two romantic death scenes in earlier Hollywood classics. First of all, the camera angles are nearly identical to those of Tony's death in Maria's arms in the original 1961 version of West Side Story, as I remember IMDB.com pointing out. The fact Belle's appearance was already partly modeled after Natalie Wood probably helped to bring that scene to the animators' minds. But I also think they drew inspiration from another famous Hollywood death scene: the death of Greta Garbo's Marguerite in 1936's Camille. I've never seen anyone else notice the similarity, probably because the characters' genders are reversed, but I've noticed it ever since I first saw the Camille scene in the 1982 version of Annie. The dialogue has clear parallels, with the dying character resigned to their fate because death will set them free from their life as an outcast (the Beast's "Maybe it's better this way" echoes Marguerite's "Perhaps it's better if I live in your heart, where the world can't see me"), while their lover urges them "Don't think such things"/"Don't talk like that" and tries to convince them that everything will be fine. Then the moment of death is conveyed by Marguerite and the Beast's eyes, as they roll upward and then drift closed, and the reactions of Belle and Robert Taylor's Armand are very similar, as they both pause in horror, then plead "No, no... don't leave me..." and bury their faces in their beloved's chest in anguish.

In all these inspirations and homages, I think it shows that with Beauty and the Beast, Disney set out to create not just another children's movie, but a movie in the spirit of a Golden Age Hollywood classic that adults could enjoy too. In particular, they set out to create a genuinely romantic picture, which adult couples could enjoy as a "date movie" just as much as their kids would enjoy it as a fairy tale. And as we all know, they succeeded with flying colors!

hi yay!! i get to talk about fitzgerald muahahaha

so fitzgerald air (temporary name) is set in an alternate 1920s london in which an immortality-obsessed airship magnate competes with a fanatical cult to awake an ancient, powerful pantheon from where they lie dormant beneath a monolith in the centre of westminster. yeah. such a slay

it's centered around unemployed engineer elias digby, who has finally been released from the grip of his family; an airship pilot named andrew spencer who is on the run after discovering a dark secret at the heart of the famous company fitzgerald air, which has a monopoly on airships and is headed by sir hugh fitzgerald, who is incredibly rich and influential; nora atkins, a wealthy and glamorous heiress who also happens to be a mathematical genius; adrien bennet, the owner of a motor car company called merlin motors who are attempting to improve the design of the airplane so it can become a rival to fitzgerald's airships.

after stumbling upon the scene of a seemingly sacrificial murder, elias, who is bored and smart and has nothing better to do, starts to investigate, and gradually uncovers a secret and terrifying cult who worship a mysterious, ancient being.

meanwhile andrew, on the run from fitzgerald's hitmen, hides out with his close friend nora (because she owns two whole mansions) while attempting to decipher some strange blueprints he stole from fitzgerald after a fellow employee's death, as well as a map, centered around westminster monolith (where big ben is now) with what seem to be ley lines stretching out around it.

eventually the three join up, and adrien bennet enlists their help to bring the two organisations down and stop them before they've awakened this sinister eldritch entity, which could endanger the fate of humanity

and also elias helps adrien design a new and improved plane which is cool

it's not the most developed idea as of now but i'm kind of obsessed with it <3

elias digby – sarcastic, smart, talented engineer, SO traumatised, can quote shakespeare any day, internally screaming every time andrew or adrien so much as looks at him (he has a type)

andrew spencer – THE bisexual, flirt, literally has never taken anything seriously in his life (not true he loves everyone around him very fiercely), reckless, loves flying as in he can't live without it, for someone who seems so confident and sure of himself he sure blushes a lot whenever he makes eye contact elias......

nora atkins – fashion icon, mathematical genius, somehow manages to keep andrew in check (how does she do it), actually SHE'S the bisexual of all time and i'm obsessed with her, she owns a motorbike which is hot

adrien bennet – a bit similar to andrew but with more mad scientist vibes, he's also a very charismatic leader and just generally really good with people and makes friends easily

and here's the opening paragraph because it's one of my fav things i've ever written:

That morning, London had awoken to a great downpour, the first storm after a long, dry summer, but it was evening now and its inhabitants were grumbling about the weather as if they were well into autumn and had been wearing their raincoats for weeks, trudging along rain-soaked pavements and dodging puddles with the ill-tempered resignation of a country famous for its rain. The walkers’ umbrellas groaned and sagged beneath the water that tumbled from the sheet of grey above, and they cast envious glances at the occasional passing motor car. The airships trundling high over the grimy streets suffered a similar fate: the water washed over their sloped tops and surged down their furrowed sides, collecting in gutters and gurgling down rickety pipes or simply streaming down and onto the people below. An airship hung heavy in the sky above one construction site, shielding it from the pouring rain like a great, ungainly umbrella, and a young man stood a little way from the ramshackle scaffolding, a dark blue bicycle propped up against him as he rummaged around in his pockets. He was lean and serious and his eyes sparkled with intelligence, though his face was a little pinched and his chin rather sharp; his black hair was sopping wet and flattened to his forehead, sending a steady stream of water down his nose. He payed it no mind.

Who is James Colthurst?

Netflix’sThe Crown has returned for a fifth season, which will explore the inner workings of the royal family during the 1990s.

The drama will see the introduction of several new characters, as it covers the breakdown of Princess Diana and King Charles III relationship, Diana’s iconic “revenge dress” moment, and her 1995 interview with BBC’s Martin Bashir.

Among the new characters is Dr James Colthurst, a close friend and confidant of the late Princess of Wales.

Here’s everything we know about Colthurst.

Where did Diana and James Colthurst meet? Colthurst met Princess Diana in 1978 when she was 17, three years before she married then-Prince Charles.

At the time, she was still known as Lady Diana Spencer.

Colthurst and Diana met during a skiing holiday in Valet Claret in France through mutual friends but were introduced after she twisted her ankle.

Her friends, knowing Colthurst was training to become a doctor, brought her to see him.

Recalling their first meeting in a piece for The Telegraph, Colthurst said: “Good fun, bright and mischievous, it was hard not to hit it off with Diana straight away, and so began the friendship she and I maintained for the rest of her short, eventful life.”

Why was their friendship significant? Colthurst was the link between Diana and royal biographer Andrew Morton, who wrote Diana: Her True Story in 1992.

Colthurst would take Morton’s questions to the palace, where he have taped conversations with Diana.

Speaking of the arrangement, Morton previously said: “As her friend, James was well aware that her marriage had failed, and her husband was having an affair with Camilla. By this stage, Diana was very concerned for her safety and the safety of those around her.

Morton told the Irish Sunday Mirror: “James would go to see Diana in her sitting room with tea and biscuits and stick a microphone on her sweater. He would turn the tape on and literally ask the questions I had prepared. It was a very hit-and-miss process.”

What else do we know about James Colthurst? According to The Sun, Colthurst was educated at Eton College in Windsor, before training to become a surgeon at St Thomas Hospital in London.

He is understood to be married and have two daughters.

Hi again! :) I just started to watch Scooby Doo and Guess Who today, and I love the concept of introducing celebs. I love it because its not new, it's a callback to the og episodes with sonny and Cher, and batman!

'Personally, I noticed Andrew Scott 's existence years ago in 2019 in Phoebe Waller-Bridge 's Fleabag where he played a Catholic papa in season two. I remember then he had us all talking (and the protagonist of the series who according to the script was in love with him) with his beauty and with this very philosophical attitude towards life and God. Spoiler alert! He renounced the girl and remained unswervingly faithful to the path of spiritual life.

Apparently it wasn't the first time we saw the Irish actor on TV. He had already distinguished himself in the Sherlock series but also through many more films and series in which he has participated in these decades that he has been active in the field of cinema and television. He has received awards including a BAFTA TV Award, two Laurence Olivier Awards, a Critics' Choice Television Award and a British Independent Film Award. We don't need to say more to confirm that (in addition to being sexy and a style icon) he is also a good actor.

After the buzz created by the movie All of us Strangers, where he co-starred with Paul Mescal , we have given him our undivided attention. Now she stars in the new Netflix series, Ripley . He plays Ripley himself and does it masterfully.

Stylistically of course, after his leading role in the series Sherlock, Scott had adopted a formal dapper outfit. He especially chose suits, brogues and shoes in neutral shades. But as the decades passed, the Irish actor's style changed. It became colorful. Especially after his Fleabag appearance - especially in recent years working with Warren stylist Alfie Baker - we'd say he's up for awards.

Last Sunday, Scott appeared in a total AMI look (see center photo) at the 2024 Olivier Awards, at the Royal Albert Hall in London. He was nominated for a best actor award for his performance in Vanya. Andrew Scott wore a black Spencer jacket with a black sequin embroidered shirt and black trousers. It might be the best looking total black we've seen on a man in a while.

He knows as well as anyone how to create a party suit.

And in general to dress every time as if she is going to appear at a party. Obviously he wears sweatpants and dad sneakers, but Scott usually wears clothes that make us feel dopamine...'
